Classic drive-in providing a timeless setting for a typically American diner-style menu.
Single burger & small fries. The fries are not small, they are Infact quite a lot for small, they are slender, personally I love thicker, saltier and crispy fries. I swear I saw double patties in the single burger, first I appreciate the grilled patties, they have a special taste. Ketchup, mustard, chopped pickles and chopped onions(semi cooked?), I love the combination. What I don't like is no sesame on the buns, but I would let it slide. (I love the shape of the fries box, it's so convenient and unique!)
Haven’t eaten here for 5/6 yrs. Sure glad we stopped, burger was excellent. Fresh bun, not soggy. We ordered burgers with “ the works”. Special sauce, mustard, relish, tomato, lettuce, banana peppers , onion and pickle! Great flavours. Onion rings weren’t as dark or as crisp as we like. The rootbeer milkshake should have more rootbeer taste, it sure was thick! Prices were fair, $6 for a single burger that we couldn’t finish is reasonable.
Have to come once. Calgary staple. Been coming here since I was a kid. Sometimes really busy so expect a wait. Milkshakes have been good same with the onion rings. I always recommend getting milkshakes (you can mix flavours), onion rings and burgers. I’ve noticed that the burgers aren’t as great anymore. Used to be an organized mess with the condiments but now it’s just a mess. Bread is sometimes soggy now and overall I wouldn’t recommend as much anymore. Onion rings are always fresh crispy, great assortment of big and small ones. The milkshakes are always bomb. Been the same and tasty. Very much a velvety soft ice milkshake. Always recommend. Overall quality has definitely dropped. Not what I remembered a few years ago, even earlier this year.
No inside seating. Plenty outdoors though. The burgers are bad. No other way to say it. Strange consistency and SLATHERED in ketchup, mustard, pickles and onion. Horrible. Fries were giant portions but needed salt. Milkshakes were good and a good value.
Peter's Drive Inn Burger in Calgary Canada. The burger was very unique. I had a cheese burger that was one and a half patties, diced onions, dill pickle relish, BBQ sauce, american cheese and soft bun. Also had an order of onion rings that were super good. The raspberry shake was great.
Peter's Drive-In is an absolute gem for burger lovers and smoothie enthusiasts alike. Their burgers are simply fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, making them a must-try for anyone passing through. The smoothies are equally impressive, with a variety of flavors to choose from. What’s even better is that you can mix up to three flavors in one smoothie, creating a deliciously unique blend every time. The location is ideal, with ample parking available, making it a convenient stop whether you're on a road trip or just grabbing a quick meal. The relaxation area is a great spot to unwind, with plenty of seating that makes it easy to enjoy your meal in comfort. Whether you're craving a classic burger or a refreshing smoothie, Peter's Drive-In offers a satisfying experience that keeps customers coming back for more.
Two years ago our good friend, who has lived in Calgary for 30+ years told us about this drive-in restaurant in very warm words - very old popular local restaurant, old fashioned, family owned, etc. she and her family loves this place and come there once a year for burgers and milkshakes. We have wanted to try it and finally did. Probably our expectations were two high. It’s nice place, very good organized, lots of people come there with kids - definitely these are returning customers! However, we were a bit disappointed with the food - we ordered burgers, french fry, onion rings and milkshakes - all were average “fast food” quality- it was ok for the money, not something special to come back again. So, don’t expect something unique or delicious. However, the overall experience and atmosphere were good. And if you a french fry lover - the family pack is really big!!
We really loved the food - I was so happy to have a gluten free alternative, the lettuce wrap was awesome, thank you! The access leaves something to be desired, however, now that we have been it would be much easier to come again and know what's what. The milkshake flavor options are absolutely incredible!? My friend enjoyed her root beer shake. The fry portions are absolutely generous! So cool and so refreshing to see, in a world that feels like everything is fleeting for the money, this value is much appreciated! Thanks Peters' Drive-in!
Milkshakes alone are worth the detour
Wow. I expected so much better. We binned 75%.
Local classic, and great location. Burgers and fries are good, 4/5 stars, but milk shakes are really thick. Not a problem for me as I rarely ever order them, but if I did, I d remove a star. Staff is alright, unfortunately they ve been hiring workers that don t fit with the local culture, and the ones we were familiar with are not common anymore. Removing a star for that Final rating 3/5
Great burgers. Awesome shakes.
Disappointed with the Maple walnut shake ...no flavor
This place gets worse and worse every year,,, Nobody speaks English there anymore. Having to repeat an order 6 times for burgers and milkshakes shouldn t happen. The people serving you the food forget or misplace your order. The hamburger patties are razor thin, oil based cheese slices. Terrible terrible terrible The owners should be ashamed as to what they let this iconic border stand become. , but the processes definitely need to change. Wait times are wayyyyy too long. Back in the day, the person taking your order, made your shakes and yelled out for a burger and fries. This was way more efficient,,, having line ups for blocks because the left hand doesn t know what the right is doing. Cars sitting at the window for over 5mins so unacceptable in a fast food joint with a tiny menu. Get things back to the way they were and you ll make way more money. Process, process, process
Always great!
Very tasty and pleasant team
I have been getting shakes from here for years. Also a big fan of the onion rings and a bit of vinegar. The burgers and dogs are mid, but good value for the dollar if youre in the mood. I usually just go with onion rings and a milkshake. The best part is they let you choose from a huge list of milkshake flavours!
Horrible experience at the parking. Was planing to get some while waiting for my fb marketplace seller to drop off some stuff. The security jumped right out when I got into the parking lot. So never mind, not giving you any business
The shake is too thick. Didnt understand how to suck it up Food
Parking: Theres a parking lot just across the alley. It can get full on really busy days but usually theres a spot Food
Yum!
Thicccc of boiiii
My first time here even though I ve been in calgary 3 years now. Was not disappointed at all, it is a retro drive-in modernized with 2 drive-thru lanes on both sides. The wait can be a bit longer seeing how busy they are with drive-ups and 2 drive-thru lanes, food was excellent. Just what you want from a place like this. Had a cheese burger, cheese dog, fries and gravy. Wish the fries aren t tiny. Will come back for their famous milkshakes!
Quick and tasty homemade.
Burgers are okay at best, but the milkshakes are famous for a reason no doubt.
Its Peters. You know its good.
Classic burgers and of course signature fries Huge variety of shake flavors Food
This OG restaurant is still consistent among the burger competition.
Sloppy burger
Their frie bucket was massive yummy!
Peters drive has a beautiful vibe and always enjoy the milkshakes!
Best milkshakes around and the most flavors to choose from. The staff is always super friendly aswell !
Portion sizes are huge so get ready to share! Everything tasted fresh and it was the perfect meal to start our journey to the rockies
Would love a dine in sitting area but otherwise milkshakes and burgers are a must have. Vegetarian options: Veggie burgers
Can t go wrong with a milkshake and burger.
Experience the taste of childhood of the locals. There are many flavors of milkshakes to choose from, and you can also make your own. It will definitely be painful for friends with difficulty in choosing a place (so I later chose a daily recommendation XD). The basic burger has a lot of meat. Yes, the milkshake is too sweet for me, and the onion rings are delicious hot but become greasy when cooled.
Old school drive in. Good was great and reasonably priced. Milkshake was out of this world!
Large portions, happy staff. Nice to be near one of their locations.
Peters has been doing the classics perfectly since I was a kid. With the added nostagia and the fact Everything is delicious this is straight up the best fast food in the city Hook me up with burger, fries, and vanilla milkshake, and Im set!
Best milkshakes ever!!
I still enjoy the burgers and shakes, but the original fries will always be better than the current ones.
Parking: Burgers are good Kid-friendliness: For sure Recommended dishes Poutine, Gravy, Family Fries Parking space
Its been a place for burgers since I was ankid
I like the burgers, but the fries are not as good as the past. Onion rings are still outstanding just like the thick shakes. Classic from my years even as a youth. Large servings of fries, but make them crispier, please!!!
Best milkshakes and onion rings in town!
best milkshakes!
Worst burger Ive had in years. Sauce was gross, meat had no taste, place was dirty and staff was disorganized. These days you arent coming close to the old days at all.
Great milkshakes... Great old school feel service is great but because its extremely popular sometimes you have to wait to get served but overall such a great spot
Its always busy! So you know its good! The milkshakes are really delicious and I love the fries!
Been a family favorite for over 50 years.
A Calgary classic and must try! The milkshake is super thick. Next time I would bring my own stainless steel reusable bubble tea straw! The fries and onion rings are my favorite. Burger is good too!
Just not as good as it used to be. Theyve gone downhill quite badly from what they were 5-10 years ago. Read that it is under new ownership, and it feels like it with the quality of their food now. The burgers are especially disappointing. It was always a difficult location for me to get to in the city, but it used to be worth it in the end. Not anymore, unfortunately.
Amazing Taste! Loved it but only one problem, please increase more outlets accross the city or please start delivery. Not everyone can visit place easily.
Fries is great.
Its overrated, its all good but its not life changing. Patties have a too perfect feel to them, reminding me of sunrise burger patties. Fries are good. Gravy is OK. Im pretty sure its made from a mix, not homemade
Peters Drive-In has been a staple in Calgary for years, and while the food quality isn t quite the same as it was 15 years ago, it s still decent and hits the spot. The classic burgers and shakes remain satisfying, and the fast service is always a plus. It s a great place for a casual bite, though I do miss the old-school taste. Still, it is a solid option for anyone craving comfort food!
It is a happy place to visit. I have been visiting for more than 10 years. The service is very good on the customer windows. Take out is so fast. Food quantity and quality are good for the price. The place is clean and tidy. I would suggest the french fried more crispy.
Love the milk shakes
Our fav go to for burgers/fast food in Calgary! Vegetarian options: Fries and onion rings. Its a fast food burger place. Parking: Use the Alley to get into the parking lot. If it is really busy, not only hard to find parking but hard to get a picnic table. Kid-friendliness: Yup. Just watch them in the parking lot. No play area. Just parking and picnic tables. Wheelchair accessibility: For drive through our they can sit in the car. All picnic tables are up on the curb and the landscape is all loose rocks.
Bought lunch here two weeks ago, worst bugger Ive had in a long time from any fast food place, bugger had weird taste, onion rings and fries were stiff dry and cold. Will never go there again. Dont know what the hype is about.
I had an amazing burger, onion rings, and milkshake. So much better than fast food chains, but equally quick service! Definitely worth a stop.
I found the burger to be terrible. The sauce wasnt great, the burger patties seemed like frozen factory made burgers.
Still good but not the same as the original. The service for walk up was slow today compared when I used to frequent in the 80s and 90s. I ordered 2 single burgers and with almost no lineup it took 10 min.3
The food is great, the milkshakes are great! The size of the portions you get for what you pay is great value! They also don t ask for tips here which is really nice!
Delicious!!!!!
Yummy
Getting cheap on using quality ingredients...Licorice MILKSHAKE TASTES like Cherry.....TWICE!! in 2 months.
Old school burgers charbroiled and dipped in bbq sauce.. simple toppings, inions relish mustard.. been going since 70s. Still like it.. Drive thru with picnic tables .. nice in the summer
Good burgers. Shakes are okay.
Burgers & fries were just ok, but the oreo milkshake was excellent! The milkshake itself is 5-star, best one I ve ever had! Would definitely return for only the milkshake.
Long time favorite in Calgary for burgers and shakes
Quick and fun to order. Everything was wonderful. The people at the window were amazing.
Cant go wrong with their milkshake cravings
Top tier shakes (will die on this hill)
Burgers are brilliant and the shakes are fantastic
Picnic tables only but on a beautiful day it s awesome !
Cool atmosphere and pretty decent burgers. Heard a lot about this place and worth going to once but not sure if I would return.
The best milkshake I ve ever had with resonable price
Best burger ever!
Milkshakes are terrific and a great price and a huge selection of flavors.
Milkshakes are always amazing! There are so many different flavors to choose from, and the onion ring and French fries sizes are huge.
Great tasting burger. Portions of chips could easily feed small family. Plenty of leftovers!
09/28/2024 I guess its just a McDonalds now: They have switched from fresh cut fries to frozen. Peters used to advise customers that they were not selling their TM items. It has now changed, I am not to interested in buying McDonalds food at a landmark. Old review below I only go for the fries and shakes. Long waits are usual, custom shakes, done as desired.Shakes always taste good. Fries are fine, normal cut and salted, somewhat crispy depending on how long you keep them enclosed - very healthy portion (no need to buy large/family size for one/two people) Dont visit if hangry and the lineups are long, grab a Snickers from the seven across the street first if youre hangry. Emphasis is put on drive thru, so walkup can be slow contrary to what you would think.
An iconic fixture in the city, but it has become a love it or hate it situation. Food is always hot, milkshakes are thick and service is fast and courteous. Great variety of milk shakes, and the large fries are virtually family size.
NO EXCUSE! So went to Peters with my wife on a very slow October 1st evening. No cars or anything in the drive thru. Ordered dounle cheese burgers with everything on them minus peter sauce and what do we get? Nothing on the double cheeseburger but peter sauce! Wow. Good workers you have Peters!!! Its not like it was Stampede season and youre overwhelmed with customers! We also ordered fries. Bottom of the barrel here too. Even the milk shakes we ordered were not great especially since my wifes straw was broken! Absolutely waste of $36 dollars!!! So here is what I will be doing. I will be telling people not only is Peters over priced but to sit there in the drive thru and examine your burgers before driving away and making SURE its what you ordered because of the last three times I have gone here. Now twice have they been incorrect. I will also be deleting and renewing this review every few months so it stays relevant. I am very disappointed in Peters and anyone who goes here that is reading this. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING EVEN IF THERE ARE 12 CARS BEHIND YOU!
Rarely come here because it has become known that it has drastically went downhill over the years however the milkshakes are still good so decided to come here tonight. Ordered two shakes and go to pay, machine won t accept payment because they don t take American Express. That was all we had on us. A relatively busy establishment like theirs one would expect they would. No visible signage that any of us saw when ordering or we wouldn t have bothered. Now we will definitely not be back because of how the whole situation was handled by staff. Put signage at the speaker box to avoid issues like this in the future.
Amazing burgers and milkshakes. Recommend the banana, strawberry and raspberry milkshake (you can mix up to three flavours). A Calgary staple and always excellent quality.
Love this place! Great food! Great location! Food : 5/5
Always yummy late at night
Milkshake is good, must try.
This has been my go to place for milkshakes for 30+ years! If ever you want super thick, tasty milkshakes, this is the perfect place to go. Parking: The parking for Peters can be a little tricky if you come during the height of summer and on a very warm day.
Best milkshakes in town
Milkshakes were pretty good, made me shit my brains out later, and these a pretty descent amount of lgbtq people there
Theyre a classic other but thats about it. Just fact theyve gotten way overpriced plus shrinkflation
Petes Drive-In does one thing, but they excelled at it. If you see a queue - dont be discouraged, its always there and its moving fast. Do note that the sitting arrangements are outdoors here, so keep the weather in mind and be ready to eat in the car or find a secondary spot once you picked up your shakes and burgers. I prefer driving up through the alley behind rather than maneuvering through the parking.
A Calgary staple. Great burgers, great shakes, and a great parking lot beside the drive thru.
Its a drive thru, the burgers are satisfying, the fries plentiful, but we come for the milkshakes. Great place for treats.
Shakes Parking: DO NOT ENTER THE EXIT, ITS ONE LANE OVER TO ENTER THE PARKING LOT. BE CAUTIOUS OF THIS BECAUSE THE SIGN IS HIDDEN. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE.
I was at Peters Drive-In before 12:00 pm I got a chocolate milkshake poutine and a cheeseburger the poutine tasted old I had a couple bites out of it couldnt eat anymore the burger whats good the milkshake was the best I cant believe I actually forgot that Peters Drive-In changed when the new owners bought the company at least the staff are really friendly and polite Ill only recommend the burger and milkshakes everything else not worth it
Still great taste. Cant miss it.
Wonderful people and restaurant was so clean. The washroom were spectacular
Beautiful burgers and yummy milk shakes ( although all the flavors are very sweet)
Try there milkshakes - you wont be disappointed. They are so thick!!
I like it
After hearing about how amazing Peters was, and realizing I had never taken my kid, we headed over for milkshakes. Well he wanted fries and a burger as well. So he got a chocolate milkshake which he thought was okay. The fries had enough salt and were okay. The burger was horrible. My pina colada milkshake was super tasteless. Plus the straws they give are so peculiar. They feel like pasta tubes. Anyway all in all a disappointing experience.
Shake is super.
Always a great trip down memory lane. Annnnd the Milkshakes are great.!!! Food
Always a nice place to go. A staple of Calgary. Good place for a burger and a milkshake.
Excellent attention.
Great food everytime!! Went with a friend from Saskatchewan she loved it as well
Best milkshakes hands downs
Burgers taste weird. They dont taste like beef, almost mushy. There is too much ketchup and sauce. Fry serving is fantastic but arent real fries. Milkshake are flavorless. This doesnt feel like a Drive-in. At least the staff tries to be nice.
Good food without the crud. Real potatoes, 100% beef. Milkshakes, banana splits, and sundaes a tasty treat with real fruit and real milk. Parking: It has a parking area as well as a picnic tables and grassy area. Kid-friendliness: They have a walk up window area to order from great place to hang out with friends over an ice cream or shake.
We bought milkshakes and onion rings. Quick drive thru and really good food and service. Thank you.
When you ve had a name like Peters drive in you don t need to worry about being good anymore. And that is what happened here. I rather Wendy s.
Peter I know youve been going on with this thing for the 80s. I love the single for a double hear it quite frankly your food sucks it always has. I only ever liked your milkshakes
Love the Milkshakes and Onion rings!!!
Lime milkshake and onion rings are a must!
Always be nostalgic, awesome burgers even now that Im gluten free I get it in a lettuce wrap with all the fixings sooo good and the fries with gravy probably not gluten free
Love the burgers and shakes!
Peter s is a standout gem in Calgary, not just for its exclusivity to the city but also for offering some of the best smoothies in Canada. This place has a charm of its own, being one of the oldest spots in Calgary where you can enjoy a quick, delicious drink. While their smoothies are absolutely top-notch fresh, flavorful, and arguably the best you ll find nationwide the same praise doesn t extend to their food. The fries and burgers, though served in generous portions, tend to be overly oily and a bit dark, suggesting the oil may be overused. I wouldn t recommend the fries, but Peter s remains the premier destination for a refreshing smoothie. Definitely worth a visit if you re in the area and looking for a quick, delightful drink!
Burgers are very tasy but dublecheese is too big for me, I can barely eat. Should try just cheeseburger next time. Also cheese dog was amazing so as blueberry milkshake. Oh.. and I forgot poutine - delicious! Everything was so good that I just want more.
Peters will always be my go to place for a burger, onion rings and milkshakes. Of course, i truly enjoy the pumpkin spice milkshake, it would be wonderful to see that year round on the signs for flavors of milkshakes ,Im hoping you will. Food
Always the best milkshakes!
A Calgary classic with killer milkshakes, my go to when Im in the north. Parking: Plenty of spots but it can get busy at times. It has a double drive through, one on both sides of the building Food : 5/5 |
Its an old school drive-in. Nothing more and nothing less. Great food, great price, love it!
Fantastic food
Terrible service
Great for a hot day when in need of a milkshake. Their food leaves much to be desired for. I remember when it was better when I was younger. Now the experience is different.
Just OK. Better options out there.
Great different style of drive in experience Parking: You should try it Food : 5/5 |
Burgers, milkshakes and fresh onion rings are awesome. Fries are terrible ever since they changed them 10 or so years ago. Go back to the ones you used to have.
Very tasty cocktails
What is there to say about Peters that hasnt already been said? The portions are ginormous - a small fry is enough for two people, the family size is enough for 5. The burgers are good; Double Cheese with the works (sans bell peppers!) Is my go to. This place has been around for so long for a reason. And that reason is delicious.
Best Burger in the world for my taste buds
Great food. messy burgers, amazing shakes. Not the greatest burger in town or anything, but a solid Calgary staple.
We had cheeseburgers, hot dogs, onion rings, and milkshakes and they were all delicious! We ate at one of the many picnic tables, and just loved the chip wagon feel of the place. Give it a try if you re looking for delicious fast food at a great price!
If you want a good exprence our your new you come from outta town your first stop is here as this is the best place around & people will be asking you when you leave did you come here if you miss it a lot of people be disappointed but you can change all that & come
Touristy reputation. Food wasnt that good. Buns were puffy, too dry and doughy. The special sauce was good even though the beef lacked the beefy flavor. The hotdogs were probably a favorite in a time where there werent many options. The fries all natural freshly cut were the only outstanding offering. All in all the place has a reputation and a following due to years of repeat business.
The best shakes ever! (Chocolate in particular)
Really delicious local food.
Good place to visit but very busy
Ultra low quality burger patties, with extra soggy buns
Best milkshake ever!!! Lots of options to enjoy and combine. They also have fast food menu and some tables on the front and side of the place.
Classic... enough said
Delicious food and greater milkshakes.
I love Peters Burger Very yummy I love their milkshake Vegetarian options: Not sure Dietary restrictions: Yes Parking: Big parking lot Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Their milkshakes are very delicious and the staff very friendly & welcoming, Will definitely go back again.
Good mango shake
My Family had burger, milkshake, fries, poutine and its all worth it, good taste and good price. Service is fast! They have a small parking lot nearby w/ shaded picnic tables were we ate & We loved eat!
Milkshake.
