Authentic Irish Pub in the heart of downtown Calgary with Irish fare.
Awesome experience at James Joyce...and after. Had a great evening with terrific food with some friends while on a business trip to Calgary. Forgot to grab my receipt and a few weeks later contacted them to see if they could help me out. Everyone I spoke to including the Manager (Jen) were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be a repeat customer!
very friendly service, large selection of drinks, the food is just superb. but the best thing there is the desserts! interesting design, every time you notice something new
Great Irish Pub! It's located in a beautiful old bank building. Very nice to sit outside, because it's located in Calgary's car-free street. Inside it's decorated like an old beautiful Irish Pub. It's not cheap, but they have a good selection of Irish and international beers.
Sat on the patio looking out at 8th which was neat. Drinks were good, service is great. The curry in the boxty tasted nice but the chicken was way overcooked and dry. Other than that good little spot to people watch.
Cute place downtown calgary. Stopped because of the patio, service was slow. Party of 2, was only given one fork but did not see the waitress come back to ask for another so we ended up sharing our utensils. No refills of of drinks either. We asked for the bill and ended up having to wait almost 15 mins for her to come back. Food was great, but the service needs to be a bit better.
If you want a casual brunch on the weekend, you should come here to enjoy the food and the atmostphere. The server is nice and attentive.
We swung by for a quick lunch before heading out on our bike ride and decided to sample their brunch menu. It turned out to be quite delicious! The staff were welcoming, the service was excellent, and the building itself was stunning. If you're looking to unwind on a downtown patio with some delectable pub fare, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a must-visit spot!
The food was delicious. Outdoor seating during the Stampede was comfortable and entertaining. Portions are perfect. The Bread Pudding is worth saving room for and the Traditional Big Rock Ale is very tastey.
Good Guinness.
Our server, (Cristal) was super cold and unfriendly. When we didnt tip her she yelled at us and guilt tripped the rest of us into tipping.
Perfect.
I love this place! My favorite pub! Always attentive and polite waiters. Very cool interior. Interesting menu and good selection of beers and other alcoholic drinks.
Lee is definitely the nicest bartender! Really enjoyed the vibe here and love the drinks and food, came at 2pm and didn t let me down at all!
My wife and I visited it. The food was delicious and the beer was very good. It was a weekday so there were few customers. The service was fast and very good. We ordered the mushroom soup because of the cold weather this winter that is starting and the dried pork to eat something solid. Very tasty.
Lee is the best barkeep in town
Lee is the best bartender I ve ever had in a while for sure
Good beers and excellent food.
Sat for a while before being served, debated leaving but stayed only to be disappointed by the $21.00 club sandwich
Went for lunch with my son and daughter yesterday ,we love the chicken curry and chips only to be told we had to have it with rice no option for chips unless we paid extra for them.We did pay extra but the curry sause was changed and I counted 3 pieces of chicken in mine .If something works dont change it we wont be back again ,our server was nice
Lee/leo is amazing! Go see him now! He is a wonderful individual wh chat with you and serves you Amazing food!
Great beer on tap, appetizers and meal! Would definitely go back.
$12.20 for a pint of Guinness
The Belfast Breakfast was great! Very cool atmosphere too.
Place with an extraordinary decoration, it is a work of art in each of its spaces. It has internal environments and a charming terrace. It is strategically located on Stephen Avenue. The service and drinks are excellent. A must-see place in the city of Calgary. Parking: It does not have parking
Lovely pub, and the Irish girl who served us was great. Unfortunately though, there s no excusing the exorbitant beer prices. 10.75 for a local draft is daylight robbery
Had a few drinks there really nice service. Bartender Leo gave us some nice drinks
amazing service love coming here everytime to lee, best bartender ever
Beats me why the world wants to try and mimic an Irish bar. The only thing Irish about this bar is its name. Sell Guinness, play some Irish music and stick 40% on the price. If anyone is looking for the Irish bar experience go to Ireland.
We popped into this inviting pub for a glass, and loved the atmosphere!
First visit there. Would go back. Good value.
Anne and her staff are incredible. Crystal, Jenn, Leo, Orla, Alina x 2 were incredible hosts and de facto psychologists to weary traveling vagabond filmmakers. Amazing folks xx
Were seated for brunch, didn t get severed drinks / coffee for almost 15 mins, food took an almost an hour to reach our table. Then had to wait an additional very annoying 5 minutes to be given cutlery and ketchup. We had to flag down our waitress each time we wanted a coffee top up. Sausages and sandwich was cold. Food did not come to our table as ordered. Quite disappointed with the whole experience.
Nice place. Leo is really a funny guy. This guy made me laugh. Amazing staffs. I will be back to see Him. Made me at home away from home.
Went here before the night ends, Leo is the best of the best among all of the bartenders out there! He is friendly and welcoming when I went there. Great job for your positive customer service!
Didnt get the feel of a typical Irish pub, food was OK, had an odd amount of curry based dishes for Irish pub menu. Food was pretty good, the Irish stew was very good, son tried the chicken curry...thant had very little chicken Not sure well go back
The service from welcome to the finish of the meal, was terrible. The server didnt smile, no introduction, and just plain rude. The food was great but as a person in service, bad service can ruin a great meal. Very sad. We were looking forward to our experience. Food
Im always happy to be here and back again and the staff is great, especially Leo Thank you! Food
this eatery richly deserves a 5 but got the fact that meals were grossly over salted - a great pity. maybe we hit it on a bad day and so we would highly recommend a visit they had one nice option where it is possible to swap out the fries for the much healthier bowl of soup - very nice touch.
Disgusted to see my culture diminished for appeal. The Boxty taste like butter chicken. With peppers and a potato crepe this isnt an irish boxty. This establishment has fallen far on the last 20 years. The guiness and whiskey is fine. But it doent feel as it should any more. Why is there tumeric, 5 spice or garahm masala in a dish from ireland?
We stopped each day for a drink, and then one evening, we had a meal with friends who had emigrated 14 years ago, great food friendly staff, and an Irish pub that was clean and pleasant and not like the Irish bars we went to in Montreal and Toronto
We love going to the James Joyce the staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable. Leo the bartender is top notch. Makes sitting at the bar a great experience. Mantas, Jen and all the staff are excellent. The food is sooo yummy, try the sheperads pie and traditional Irish bread pudding. Yes!
It was good. Staff was nice
Super place to dine Bad service
This place has live music, which is not common in Calgary, and a large patio. Food was good as well, I really liked the lamb stew.
excellent service.
No vegan options here; confirmed with the chef; all menu items have dairy or meat in some form. Eat before you come here.
Just had a drink but what a beautiful pub
A good place to grab something for lunch. Food was really good and the portions were big.
Very rude staff especially the short lady (crystal) with glasses working in the morning. Cant greet customer with even a smile. Its start of the day 11 am and if you are frustrated in the beginning of the shift, cant believe what a person will do at the end of her shift. Very bad experience, end up having only drinks and skipped the food.
Finally, a reasonably priced menu and the food was fantastic. I had the black and chicken power bowl. It was so fresh and delicious. Thanks everyone for the great service this place is a vibe!
Went at noon with family. Hostess told us they don t serve kids under 12. We had one kid under 12. Absurd. I could understand if it was a late night bar scene or if no one under drinking age was admitted but this no kids under 12 is just nonsense.
LEO is amazing and made my night! Best night after having a shitty experience at El furniture cause your boyfriend charged my girls phone. #insecure
--- I recently visited James Joyce in downtown Calgary and had the Belfast breakfast. The food was fantastic fresh and full of flavor. The Irish atmosphere really adds to the experience, making it feel like a little slice of Ireland in the heart of the city. Highly recommend if youre looking for a great meal with authentic Irish vibes!
Made a reservation for 20 back on January 24th for our work convention in mid February. They didn t put us on the list. Best the manager could do was try and separate us into small groups or 2 -4 at incredibly tiny bench tables when we arrived. They need to get a better system, this was ridiculous.
I absolutely LOVE coming here! My fave batertender, Leo, is an absolute gem. He makes everyone feel welcome, and you always leave in a better mood than when you arrive. Great food, comfy atmosphere, and great staff! Highly recommend! Im definitely a repeat customer! Love it here! :)
Couldnt get in our group of 26 only 22 were allow to eat here. No kids under 10. Clearly there we people with kids under 10 so I guess you cant bring a baby with you for lunch. Very biased..
Pretty good chicken and brie
I quite liked the food in this Irish pub, good quantities and not as expensive as I expected. The sliders are a scandal, one of the best burgers Ive ever had, and the sausages and mashed potatoes are delicious too. Good option.
Great spot for lunch and watching the England match. Great staff too.
Had a late lunch in here. We managed to get a terrace seat which had plenty of shade but it was a great place to people watch. We had the bangers and mash to eat washed down with a pint of Kilkenny both were good.
I ordered the salt and pepper dry rub ribs and crispy cauliflower then sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The ribs came by so overcooked and was so painful to eat. Its like they had them fried 3 times cuz it was so dried out. I kept digging for meaty pieces. It was also hella salty. The thinner pieces were so over fried, the meat was hard like it fossilized. The crispy cauliflower was sweet. I cant stand savory food being so sweet. The only way to eat it was to peep off the batter. The sticky toffee pudding was overly microwaved that by the time it got to be, I couldnt even put the spoon through it. It got harder and harder, eventually hardened to a cookie consistency. I couldnt finish any of my meals. Awful place to eat at midnight, I guess.
Always dependable, Always good pub grub. The ONLY place to buy Guinness in Calgary
Bought - Rueben instead of fries received the side salad with house dressing. Hubby got a salad with chicken and we both shared breaded cauliflower and a Guiness beer each . Over 100 spent Hardly saw the waitress and salad arrived with no dressing at all. So maddening when you pay out the butt for a meal and they screw it up. Not satisfied unfortunately not for that price. All should be perfect especially for a damn salad and sandwich. Won t ever be back. Save your money fast food would be better.
Quick friendly service. Basic Breakfast. In and out. Thank you. Sorry no pictures.
Proper Irish bar best I ve been in out of Ireland great food even greater Guinness!
Coming from a real Irish man, this is the best Irish bar I ve been to in all of Canada! Food and service was fantastic and great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place
Been in Canada for 2 years and this is by far the best and most authentic Irish bar I ve been in.
Absolutely fantastic Irish bar. The Guinness is great, the Belfast breakfast is the closest thing to home ive had since I got here. Staff are great, 10 out of 10 all round.
Landed in Calgary for the Stampede, got a brilliant Irish breakfast and lovely Guinness. Top class.
I frequent this pub on the regular and the experience is second to none. Food is awesome, staff is incredible, and cant beat the patio. One of the best pubs in Calgary. Parking: This is in an area of Calgary that is better accessed by walking. Parking can be found but patience is needed. The pub is located in the downtown core along Steven Ave. If you are new to Calgary this is definitely worth checking out!! Several hotels are located nearby which makes this pub a great stop when in town. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and service is top shelf. They have a great selection of liquor and plenty on tap. Wheelchair accessibility: The owner responded to my original review and there are washrooms on the main floor that can be used.
Stopped in for a drink around 21:00...and was hoping a bite to eat....but apperently the kitchen closes at 6 or something crazy like that. They do have a good selection of on tap selections.
Good food. Good atmosphere. Plenty of spaces on a Tuesday evening.
Definitely good Irish pub experience in Calgary. The food was very good, the place was clean, and the service was good. I was kind of bummed that the whiskey pours came in squat little shot glasses filled to the brim - instead of a whiskey or larger shot glass. If ever in Calgary, I would go again, and I recommend.
Didn t have food but just stopped in for drinks. Cool little place :)
Just had salmon cakes and Tulamore Dew but quite good. Friend had shepherds pie, sticky toffee pudding and Teeling and agreed all was good. Superb service. Great atmosphere.
Nice patio, say at the bar. Service was reasonably quick. Lamb stew was a little too pepper for my taste but otherwise fine. Finding the ladies was a bit more of an expedition than I expected. The staircase really is tight and Tristan. Pub is nicely themed and decorated.
Ive been to the Joyce a couple times and have never been disappointed. The decor is (at least to my mind) classic public house. It feels cozy but spacious at the same time. A fireplace would be awesome. The vibe is friendly and at least reaching for authentic. The server had an Irish lilt for Heavens sake! It was only 1/2 full on Saturday when my friends and I rolled up for a 10 PM pint. If youre tired of the cocktail bars and gastropubs and just want a quiet place to enjoy a proper beer downtown, the James Joyce is an excellent choice.
Love the vibe
The food portion was enough, no more, no less. We made a reservation beforehand, but the place didnt get too busy during our visit (8 pm, Friday). The service was moderately good, but a bit slow. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, but never checked on us to see if we needed anything or not. The drink selection was quite large and unique, with so many good drinks to pick from.
The dry ribs are divine. Also one of the only places Ive ever found pints of Innis and Gunn. Bartender was an absolute champion and very much knew his business! Strong recommend.
Wonderful pub on a pedestrian walkway with a spectacular view of the tower. Nice outdoor seating. Food was really good. Only reason I dropped a star is that the service wasnt great. The waiter only came to my table once, and it it took forever to pay. I wanted to try the dessert, but by the time I got his attention I was just ready to leave.
Visited James Joyce on a bustling Flames vs Oilers game night with my girlfriend. Despite the crowds, the staff efficiently seated us and served our drinks promptly. While food service was a bit slow, the dishes arrived fresh and hot. Although there was a mix-up with part of our order, the staff swiftly rectified it. We both loved the Scotch eggs and highly recommend them. The pub-style atmosphere was one of the best Ive experienced. I plan to visit again, hopefully on a quieter night so I can experience the James Joyce at its best.
Visiting from out of town and made a day to go downtown. One server just stated upon arrival that they cant you since you have a child. Another server as we were standing there approached myself and stated rudely we dont allow kids and walked away. They stated since we had our 11 month and they serve liquor they wont take us. Seems moreso they dont want kids ingeneral since I was confuses and checked another 2 places that were fine with kids. We came here too because my daughters half Irish and we dressed her up. Not worth the time if your with your family.
Very disappointed was visiting from ontario. Niagara region to be exact where we have many wineries and breweries that are all kid friendly. We went to the James Joyce irish pub because we wanted to take my 11 month old as she is irish we even dressed her up and were so excited to go as our last experience was wonderful. As soon as we got there we had to people tell us that babies were not allowed. As I write this review I also see that a man had brought a baby into the pub about 10 months ago. So disappointing as every other resturant was kid friendly even the other pubs and grills. Coming from ontario a place thay all places are kid friendly it was very disappointing. We end up going to a distillery instead. Also this was 1 o clock in the afternoon.
An authentic Irish pub! Food was lovely, guinness was great! Staff were very friendly and attentive. We had a lovely meal and enjoyed a few drinks before going shopping. We felt like we were back home in a local pub!
ALL of the venues in my area were offline yesterday because of the Shaw incident where vandalism shut down most of the North quadrant of the city. I took myself downtown looking for a quiet space for an important online meeting and the only place not BLARING tunes or void of appropriate lunch sustenance close to where I went was the Joyce on 8th. They were FANTASTIC to me and even plunked me into my own little side cubby where I could prepare and eat a GF lunch. I am so thankful, they went above and beyond and I wont forget it. THANK YOU to my wonderful server and the fabulous hostess for making a weird time suddenly wonderful. Dietary restrictions: I am gluten intolerant and their burger bun was really great.
Great place for a pint.
Very much enjoyed our beers and dinner at the bar inside. Sat next to a chap from England so we had a jolly Ole time.
Likes the atmosphere and charm. Food was unfrt overdone and such a small portion.
Food is excellent, service is always good! Wheelchair accessibility: There is none except for outdoor seating. Food : 5/5 |
The Irish stew was yummy
Awesome place for a dinner or just drinks. Service is great and everything is set up with a lot of love for the detail. Food and drinks are delicious too!
Expensive Irish pub with slow service.
Im never disappointed with this pub. Its been a while, but I managed to stop in for a visit. No brew though, dont drink anymore, but if I did,it woulda been a Kilkenny.
We had a fantastic time here. Service was excellent even on a very busy evening. Food was delicious. We will definitely be back.
This is my favorite Irish pub in town. The food is simple, delicious, and sufficiently true to a proper Irish meal. Nice, homey atmosphere resulting from an amazing staff and kind sociable regulars. Its definitely a go-to whether its your first time or your hundredth.
Went for St. Patricks Day and the live music was awesome. The first server was amazing, I dont know how she kept track of all of us and always had our drinks coming super fast. The second server tainted the experience...
Fantastic experience food and beer are unbelievable and staff is friendly and great, such a cool place for a pint
Just randomly came across this while waiting for our dinner reservation. Was just a lovely experience. Staff was friendly and most importantly the food and drinks were phenomenal.
Greeted by friendly staff, had excellent service, enjoyed our drinks and atmosphere.
We enjoyed a nice quiet Wednesday evening together here. The food was great Dietary restrictions: They accommodated our celiac friend with gluten free options Food : 5/5 |
A true Irish bar....and as it should be, excellent beer and delicious food.
True Irish Pub in Calgary.
Curry fries are the best thing item on the menu.
I visited this charming pub nestled in the heart of the city on a frosty, serene winter evening, and to my delight, I was greeted with warmth and efficiency by the attentive staff. The ambiance was inviting, with tasteful antiques and Irish decor adorning the walls, creating an atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. I was immediately offered a pint of Guinness, but opted for my personal favorite, Kilkenny, instead. As I perused the menu, I couldnt help but notice the diverse selection of whiskeys available, ranging from Irish to American. Whiskey flights were on offer, promising a journey through a diverse array of flavors and aromas. I made a mental note to indulge in this adventure during my next visit. For my meal, I opted for the delectable lamb stew, which exceeded my expectations with its rich flavors and generous portions of tender meat. While I thoroughly enjoyed the creamy mashed potatoes that accompanied it, I couldnt help but ponder how dumplings might add an extra layer of satisfaction to the dish, considering the abundance of potatoes within. However, the addition of fresh rosemary as a garnish elevated the flavors to new heights, creating a harmonious blend of savory goodness. On the side, I savored every bite of the warm, freshly baked wheaten bread, so delectable that I found myself contemplating requesting the recipe. Much to my delight, I discovered a sign indicating that the recipe was available for purchase as part of a kit including all the ingredients, igniting my excitement for the possibility of recreating this culinary delight in the comfort of my own home. Overall, my experience at this pub was nothing short of exceptional, leaving me eagerly anticipating my return to explore more of its tantalizing offerings and perhaps even embark on a culinary adventure of my own with the wheaten bread recipe in hand.
Expensive. Oof. When a joint doesnt post prices, I should have been more careful. Service was really good tho, entertainment too.
The best sticky pudding in the world. Well at the very least Canada
Very tasty Guinness. Same taste as in Dublin
We loved it! Salmon board, crispy cauliflower, chicken skewers, super duper good!
Its a 8 Ave pub, so we expected it to be pricey, and it is. In fact good luck finding a price for a pint of Guinness, I was scared to ask the server. Food was just okay, we were hoping for better. My wife ordered the fish and chips thinking an authentic looking pub should do this well. The fish was greasy and did not meet expectations, would not recommend ordering. I had the Guinness beef pie, it was okay. My son had the bangers and mash and this dish was very good. Overall our party of five dont feel the need to go back anytime soon.
Very rich
Great yummy place! Great drinks!
Best Moscow Mule Ive ever had. Guinness was great as well.
What a lovely experience! The food and drinks were great, but it was the service that truly stood out. Our server, I believe his name was Tell, was extremely friendly, professional, and gave us prompt service. He recommended the chicken power bowl and wow! We will definitely be back.
Great food, service and atmosphere. I hadnt visited the Joyce in many years, and like a lot of places the serving size appears to be less than in the past and the price has increased. I decided on the lunch special which for me was soup, Shepards pie and bread pudding which realized a small savings. I thought the price excessive compared to other comparable restaurants.
Fantastic Irish Pub in Calgary. Friendly staff. Great menu.
People there are great and the food was very good. Drinks are plenty!
We had our wedding here recently. The pub has always had such a charming atmosphere reminding us of pubs back in Ireland but with the Christmas decorations added, it looked fantastic. The staff were great and the food was really, really good! Fantastic venue for events, very open to customizing for whatever you need. Love James Joyce!
Upholstery is gross...needs upgrade. Nice place for conversation and a few pints. Service is slow.
Its pretty expensive, and about as Irish as Thailand, but its not horrible. Pretty standard. The Adele of downtown restaurants, it will offend nobody, but its not going to be your favorite
Great food. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the fish and chips on the special menu.
There were 9 of us for a pub night at James Joyce. Always a good option for delicious drinks and food and great service. I loved the mushroom soup. Others loved their potato nachos and chicken skewers and fish and chips.
We were a larger group looking to hang out after a performance downtown. James joyce was amazing at getting us in (without a reservation) and finding a perfect little side room for us. Our server was absolutely outstanding. Attentive, kind, funny and knowledgeable. I had the winter spiced sangria and the scotch egg, they were delightful! Highly recommend this place.
Its a financial district pub with all that entails.
Great vibe and was rather busy. Service was alright. We ate some Irish Nachos which are so bad for you but so delicious!
Went for lunch and had a great meal with very friendly service. Overall a great experience.
Came into the city at 11:30 for brunch. Online the pub was to open by 11 but at 11:30 it was closed. We called them and they opened the doors anyway for us! It was super cold out so it was a blessing. They were really apologetic and said that their January hours have changed and it wasn t updated on the website. Our service was extraordinary, food was delicious. Love this place. A must for someone looking for an authentic experience.
Fish and chips was really bad
An amazing Irish pub
The smoked-salmon plate is delicious!
Great experience can t wait to go back
Popped in cuz the wife had a TRU alumni meeting. Turned out your alcohol engineer was also an alumni.great night. Im Norwegian by heritage but was more than happy being Irish for a couple hours. The bar mathematician was awesome. I will be back
Great food & great service
We ate breakfast. Good food. Good service.
Just ok comes to mind. Stopped here this evening for a few appetizers and drinks before a show. We ordered three appetizers between the two of us, which were advertised as shareable. (Salmon cakes, deep fried brie, and scotch egg) However, the portion sizes left a lot to be desired. Youre definitely better off paying for a full meal from this establishment. The appetizers tasted good but did not seem worth the price. $80 for a few appetizers and two drinks just seems a bit steep for the amount we received. Service was also ok; not bad, but not very personable either.
We came in out of the cold and had some wonderful chicken curry and fish and chips. Atmosphere is great! We came here last year and returned again this year.
Overpriced and mediocre at best. My partner and I stopped by for dinner and ordered the Chicken Curry & Shepherds Pie. The curry was passable but not great, the Shepherds Pie was barely edible (nearly the entire meal was left on the plate). Those two meals along with a pint of Guinness and a pint of Harp ran us $79.47 with tax & tip. What a joke!
Nice little bar downtown that serves the standards. It advertises itself as an Irish pub and there s lots of interesting items to check out inside. However the food to me doesn t feel particularly unique and it s tastes like standard bar fare - which is alright since I expect to eat this sorta stuff at a bar anyway. Good service and great atmosphere but cannot say the food is anything special compared to any other bars on Stephen s ave.
The food was very underwhelming. You would think an Irish pub can make a good shepherds pie... Service was ok (a bit slow).
Thank you so much to the staff! You were fantastic to the people evacuated from the Fairmont Palliser last week. Very friendly and accommodating. Drinks were great!
Great atmosphere. Expensive. Bad service
We ordered 3-4 dishes and our server didn t know anything about it when we asked him about the ingredients. The taste was so bad and it was really expensive. First and last for me to try Irish dishes.
Food was pretty good and the service was good. Prices were a little on the expensive side.
This place is similar to most of the downtown pubs youre liable to visit in the summertime, with plenty of outdoor seating and a comfy interior. The menu has plenty of options, some of which at least make an effort to appear Irish. The whisky menu is solid, as is the diverse selection of beers on tap. That said, I dont think theres any reason to recommend it over any other bar on Stephen Avenue, given that it doesnt have a lot besides its whisky menu to really set it apart. During our visit on August 26th, we had potato croquettes, a thai chicken salad, and the salmon board, along with a gin and tonic cocktail and some beer. It satisfied our appetites and it was pleasant sitting in the side room. It isnt a must-visit for us, but it was certainly good.
Amazing food has a Scottish egg!!!!
Best burger ever, I will definitely come back to this restaurant Food
Anne. This was a Very sad experience. Really was looking forward to this. Ordered the fish and chips .The fish was BEAUTIFUL and hot. The home cut fries tasted like they were old and had been reheated and then served cold again to my husband and I. Now the waitress never came and asked how our meal was .Never ate our fries. When she came to give us the bill. I told her that if she would of came earlier I would have told her and had my fries replaced. She did nothing but give us the bill. I dont think that Anne or Gerard would have done that
Surprisingly good breakfeast outside on a nice summer sunday
Visiting from out of town, got to the pub an hour early of closing. They had already shut down and wouldn t serve. When we told them that we had guests in from out of country to specifically see this pub, and still they would not serve us.
Loved this place. Food and service was excellent! The whiskey Mushroom is amazing.
Nice Barman. Decent selection of beer. Was looking forward to a nice chicken curry & chips. Unfortunately there was 4 wee pieces of chicken and the bulk of the meal was onions & the ratty chip rejects. Pity.
Not very friendly staff.
The Guinness is too cold, the Grolsch had no foam and didnt taste like Grolsch (I think it was just given a different beer) and we were also strangely placed in a corner of the terrace. And the prices of drinks are not listed, which is also strange. Beer is 11.65 per pint.
Food was good, service was good but was not served proper silverware, had to chase the server to get it. Drinks were nice.
James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant in Calgary has a charming vintage atmosphere with a nice interior. Located in the Stephen Ave Walk area, its a convenient spot to visit. Their Scotch Egg was a perfect soft boiled egg and was delicious, especially when paired with their flavorful hash brown potatoes. Parking: There are quite some paid parking garage nearby (within 10 minute walking distance)
Great service and a tasty Czech Dark lager on tap. Fish and chips was good but fish portions a little small. Overall a good experience.
We stopped in for some appys and were blown away! Our server was Patrick, he was super attentive and very helpful!
Great place for a Guiness
The pumpkin lentil soup was delish and so was the sandwich that went with the soup. It had baked pork loin in garlic baguette, fried apple slices, smoked Gouda, a delicious mustard dressing and caramelizad onions. Great combination. For $23 it was worth the price, the sandwich was good for two people. The pub is near the Glenbow museum at Stepehens Walk so it s quite accessible if you you re around the area. During the warmer months, this place is a pedestrian zone and there is outdoor seating which makes it even more attractive to visit. Parking: A few minutes walk away
Good hot Irish pub meal. Had the Shepards pie pictured. It was great.
Had a nice dinner here. Food was lovely and the service was great. Really dig how the older aspects of the building werent covered up, like the amazing original tile floors and dining rooms and fireplaces. Woukd go back any day.
Went here with the boys for one of their birthdays. The atmosphere, food, and staff were absolutely phenomenal! Cannot wait to come again.
Was visiting Calgary with a friend, thought we d explore downtown on a Sunday morning and came across this amazing pub for breakfast. Laura our server was amazing, so friendly, here from Ireland and was great talking with her. The food was beyond delicious and atmosphere unique and homey. I ll definitely be back! Would love to try it on an evening with a few drinks. Thanks for the great experience James Joyce!
Excellent food. A notch above standard pub food. It can be very crowded. Food
Sticky toffee pudding was perfect. Pints poured to perfection
Nice little Irish pub. Good choice of beers on tap. Excellent service and great atmosphere.
Popped in prior to attending Sleuth at the Vertigo Theater. We took up the special theater menu- 3 courses @$30. Well worth it. Good food Good service. Moosehead Lager on tap!
Amazing place to be and the staff is amazing as well. Do drop in when you are around Food : 5/5
Decent Irish bar with friendly and efficient staff
