Italy is a country of breathtaking beauty, both the land and the people. It is this beauty that is the inspiration for Bonterra, a lively and spirited Italian Trattoria. Chef Glen Manzer prepares contemporary Italian fare with the emphasis on simple, fresh ingredients with an exciting twist. Experience the passions of Italy in our casual dining room, on our breathtaking Tuscan terrace, or in the Wine Room for a more private event. Our vibrant cuisine perfectly reflects the passions, style, and gusto that is the hallmark of the Italian way of life.
Absolutely fantastic service! This place just surprised with all of their stuff from hostess to bartender to our server. So welcoming, know what to say, how to interact with the customers. Just bravo. The place ofc transports you to Italy, that little garden felt like Europe ( which I missed so much). The food was really delicious loved every minute of our visit! Bravo!
Our evening at Bonterra was wonderful. Sitting on the back patio in late September until the sun goes down, next to wood fires and overhead heaters was perfect. The food was spot on and our service by Tatyana from start to finish was impeccable. Absolutely top notch. 5 stars.
Bonterra excelled in every aspect. Incredible atmosphere, great food, and an exceptional wait staff. The food is very well portioned (something I usually don’t mention) as both the calamari and spaghetti alla carbonara were loaded with protein and I truly felt I got my money’s worth from these dishes. My one knock is the cocktail selection and price, as 6 total drinks for my party out-priced both our combined food selections. But, they were adequate. Overall I highly recommend the calamari salad to share as it’s a great interpretation of the dish and well worth the price. Do yourself a favour and check this place out!
Shane is extremely great at his job. He made sure we are being look after and keeps on checking on us from time to time. Thank you! Our company dinner was exceptional because of his service and the other guy too, Rohan. The food also went beyond my expectations. The serving was good, taste was great, temperature was perfect. I particularly liked the Trout and the Tiramisu. My colleagues also loved the bread which they made in house. Definitely would love to come back!
Went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and was pleasantly surprised with a small coffee with biscuits and chocolate that was offered to us! The food was good but super filling, after only our appetizers we were stuffed and had no room for dinner or even dessert. We ended up taking the food home and it was still good but I wish we could have eaten it there. Overall though it’s beautiful restaurant with a fantastic patio as well.
Absolutely blown away by the patio, a true hidden gem! I went here with my friends for lunch and it felt like we were transported to Italy. So many lovely plants, vines and great cutlery and furniture. Our server was really kind, cheerful and easy going :) My highlight was for sure the Carpaccio, best I’ve had in Calgary and it was a big portion and a friendlier price than other places! I also loved the Caprese salad the tomatoes basil were so fresh! I would love to come back here another time definitely recommend it.
First time visit was amazing! Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The food was very delicious! Tastes way better than it looked. The Caprese Salad was fresh and tasty, main course was Linguine Alle Vongole and Featured Bison Short rib with mushrooms. Both were excellent! The atmosphere was relaxed and felt intimate. Can’t wait for the next visit.
The fried polenta was the highlight for me, I wish they could keep on their regular menu. So crispy on the outside and creamy inside. We also ordered the Insalata di Fragole to share, but as a person that loves salad, I found the portion size too small for sharing between two people. The Sicilian Cannoli wasn’t my favourite, the ricotta cream was overly dense. I’ve had better ones.
There is no good option for vegan or vegetarian. Only salad or a pasta dish with no substitute for meat or cheese.
Best patio in the city and coming up on a quarter century of delivering consistent delicious Italian.
Start to finish it was perfect. Service, food and ambiance!
Dietary restrictions: Two of our gursts were allergic, one to citrus and the other to nuts. ( serious epi- pen stuff) The kitchen kindly ensured all was accommodated, and staff did not need to be told twice, but double checked our guests would be accommodated without being made to feel it was difficult. This and the smooth handoff between staff and just- right level of attention mixed with good advice on dish pairing amd wine made for a memorable evening as conversations flowed as easily as the wine. Thank you!
Went as part of a wedding at the location. Food was amazing and so flavourful. Perfectly cooked Staff was great and polite. Will come again for sure
One of the worst food experiences for a long time.
Good food but pricey. I ordered the carbonara! Dietary restrictions: My friend is gluten free and they had come pasta options that were gluten free Food : 5/5 |
I ll preface this review with: a restaurant with an $89 ribeye dish should not be serving tap water. The cocktail I ordered was disappointing and awfully sweet and thick as syrup. Unfortunately the ribeye we ordered was a tasteless piece of beef and it definitely should not have been recommended medium. At least they took it off our bill and off the table. The only redeeming thing about our dinner were the appetizers and bread. Parking: There are a lot of homeless in the area.
Best Carbonara I have had on the North American Continent. Everything else was great. Go there
Antony was our server last Saturday and he gave our table phenomenal service throughout our dinner. He gave a great wine recommendation to start (which was all I was going to get due to some dietary restrictions/allergies). He went out of his way to get the chefs to make me a dish that followed all of it and it was still so delicious (thank you as well to the chefs). I never like feeling high maintenance so I usually avoid ordering food out but I truly appreciate the care and effort he put into his service. I will definitely be back and can t wait until Summer to try out the patio!
Can never go wrong choosing Bonterra for a dinner out with the wife, family, or company event. The food is unbelievable, especially the meatballs. But you can t go wrong choosing anything on the menu. They have a great wine selection and one of the most comforting patios in town. Parking: Park behind the building and register your licence plate for free at the hostess desk. Kid-friendliness: Took our 4 month their and they were very accommodating. Was able to walk out back to the parking lot or to the patio when we needed to calm her down.
Had an absolutely unreal experience here, the servers recommendations were fantastic, service was beyond exceptional, and hats off to the chefs. You simply must try this place.
Been here twice now and am never disappointed. A little piece of Italy hidden downtown Calgary. If you go you must go in the evening and sit outside. They set up makes you forget that you are in a big city. The servers and very friendly and the food has always been amazing. We couldn t choose which deal to have so selected 3 appetizers and wine to share between the two of us. Each dish was unique and amazing. Wish I had the photos to share. Definitely a great place to share with your significant other on those special moments. Parking: Parking is typical of downtown any city. The best place to park is Mountain Equipment Coop.
The service was amazing. Our server (I wish I knew her name) was so knowledgeable and was just outstanding. The food was great and the portion sizes were perfect. The patio was beautiful. Would highly recommend!
Their pasta is to die for! Always a great experience!
The pasta and the focaccia bread was phenomenal. So was the Tiramisu. However the risotto only had peas in it and the Bruschetta was terrible. Hence, we enjoyed only half of the dishes. The server took the risotto back but we didnt complain about the other dish as we didnt want to be disappointed with something else. The service however was impeccable. She was so friendly and kind.
I booked this place for my birthday dinner with my partner. When I arrived, the host said there was a group table that stayed there for 30 mins longer than expected. He did not want to kick them out. He offered for us to be served at the pizza place next door that they own and offered 10 percent off on the meal with a glass of champagne (not even a bottle I tell you). He also offered this for another birthday group that came. I think the host should have called us before our reso to tell us that a table was not going to be available since the group was there for 30 mins longer. Our server at the pizza place was very nice and kind. For a birthday reservation I expected better service from the host and I wanted to fully experience the atmosphere of a nice restaurant with my partner rather than going to a pizza place that had deli vibes. For a highly reviewed restaurant I expected so much better. Seriously. I dont recommend this restaurant for birthdays.
My boyfriend and I ate at Bonterra for the first time yesterday, and it was easily one of the best dining experiences we ve ever had before. We were greeted at the door by our server Shane, and were immediately sat and provided with menus and waters. It was the perfect table for our date night and the atmosphere was absolutely exceptional. The restaurant has a warm and comfortable feeling to it that added to the entire experience. The food and wine were incredible, and Shane was very attentive throughout our entire meal. His service was superb and I cannot recommend Bonterra enough because of it. In terms of food items, I highly recommend the Lasagnacce and Risi e Bisi (as pictured) for dinner, and the Budino di Cioccolato for dessert if you have a sweet tooth like me. Can t wait to return in the summer and dine in on the patio as well!
Good place. Good service.
Tomato Spaghetti
We had the best time celebrating my partners birthday. Our waiter Callen was super kind and made great suggestions! We enjoyed taking our time and enjoying truly amazing food!
My girlfriend and I came here for a dinner as part of our anniversary trip to Calgary and had a wonderful time! The ambiance was a nice combination of cozy and upscale, the food was well thought out and delicious, and our server was charismatic, helpful, and invested in making sure we had a great experience. Definitely would recommend!
A great spot for foodies who love local. A true trattoria in NA is hard to find. Food was good (locally sourced). The menu is limited but great. Their wine selection is AMAZING, and the staff are so accommodating and nice. My wife and I sat at the bar but the patio is where you want to sit. Such a great time. Lasagnacce is tasty, bruschetta is great (locally sourced yellow tomatoes). We had the lime cake for desert which was good. Great food and great wine, all in all one of my better Italian cuisine recommendations
Made a reservation for lunch time. We sat inside, the server was kind of dry to us, but she warmed up to us toward the end, it kind of put a damper on my visit. I want to try to come again for dinner and maybe sit outside. My partner loved the food and flavours. I would suggest wearing something more smart casual here. We got the burrata, carpaccio, risi e Bisi, porchetta and one cannoli. Parking: Paid street parking available.
Been debating whether or not to leave this review for a few days but I think management should be aware of my experience. I came to dine with friends on Sunday night and all the music stopped for an extended period in the dining room as the restaurant was setting up for some event on the patio that we were not informed about. When I went to use the bathroom I saw the manager appearing drunk and being extremely rude. It left a very unsavoury taste and our experience was tainted and we will not be returning.
My mother and wife insisted I had to try Bonterra after they enjoyed a fantastic meal there a few weeks ago, so September fourth the three of us went for dinner. We sat on their incredible patio, a spot that after you enter it is difficult to believe you are in downtown Calgary and not rural Italy. We had absolutely exemplary service from our delightful server Tatyana. We shared the bruschetta, the marinated pickled vegetables and the arrancini to start , and each was the best example I have ever tasted. The bruschetta was an absolute stand out, up until I tried it I always though I made a fine bruschetta myself, but the Bonterra offering was simply out of this world, bursting with flavour and served up on the tastiest focaccia I have ever enjoyed. Incredible, the mains we had lived up to the benchmark set by the appetizers, each incredibly flavourful, fresh and unique. I left determined to return as many times as required to taste every menu offering, as I am sure none would be anything short of perfect. Between the atmosphere, the absolutely perfect service and the incredible food, all in all one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed, in or out of a restaurant. It must be tried to be believed!
Legitimately the best Italian food Ive ever had, I had gotten it for pickup but man do I wish I had eaten in, actually floored at the quality and taste
Still a favourite!
Absolutely would go again
We have no fear in recommending this restaurant for lovers of Italian food. Without having had the opportunity to know the other servers, we add that if you are lucky enough to be taken care of by Shane M you will certainly be even more satisfied with your visit.
Great service. Busy place Good food Food
We have been coming here for years and the food is always fantastic and free parking is a bonus.
We had a nice date night. The food, service and ambience were quite good. We sat inside, but next time I think well try the patio with the fireplace and heaters.
Note: this is a review of Bonterra Trattoria in Edmonton, not Calgary. My partner and I went there recently. Ordered the calamari, salmon entre and 3 meat pizza. Calamari was pretty good. Salmon was so overcooked, it was unedible. I tried a piece and it was literally crunchier than the calamari. We sent it back and it was remade. 2nd salmon was virtually identical to the first - completely overcooked on the outside, but this time raw and cold in the middle. Wish I took a photo but we were stunned. It came with pasta and veg. The pasta had no flavour. Meat pizza was ok, nothing special. Dough was not fresh for sure as I make fresh pizza dough weekly. I can definitely make a better pizza at home. Very little flavour. There is no way the cook(s) are italian here and the food was bland. Service was neutral. Would not go back or recommend.
We had a great dining experience at Bonterra. Our server was very attentive and provided great guidance with the menu. She said she had only been working for a few weeks at the restaurant but she was so friendly and professional. Our meal was delicious and the tiramisu was *chefs kisses*
The patio is great. We enjoyed the pasta, salad, and dessert. The cannolli is excellent. Service was friendly, but slow after our entrée. Dinner took about 2 1/2 hours. No recognition however that it was a birthday celebration.
5/5, definitely recommend Bonterra for any occasion! Callen Russell was essential in our great experience, he made sure to deliver the best service possible! Thank you so much Callen :) the Burrata with prosciutto is a must-have, as well the spaghetti pomodoro. Super recommend!
My new favourite Italian place, got me looking for their focaccia recipe and crying about it. The patio is a must when the weather is nice enough
A delicious meal, excellent ambience, great service and reasonable price. What more can one ask for?
The patio was very pretty to sit on and had a very nice evening with decent food (although my friend didnt quite like her dish because the porchetta was very gamey) However, I decided to write this review because of my experience with taking food home. Felt like more thought couldve gone into it from the staff. My dish was quite saucy, almost soupy. With trout and beans that didnt really absorb soup. I had some left to take home, and the server kindly packed it into a craft box for me. All was well until I got into the car and the box tilted and the soup spilled all over my dress. By the time I got home the sides of the box was kind of wet and greasy, there was a solidified puddle on my dress. And I could not fathom why all this soup would be packed into a paper box. It feels like common sense would be to pack it in a proper container or dont ladle the soup out. So I had a disaster of time trying to not drip everywhere getting from the car to the bathroom and cleaning everything up. Because this wasnt just a tiny spill, and the box didnt even open, it was just from the creases of the box and parts of the cardboard that got soaked through.
Excellent cuisine, in a lovely setting, with superior service. We sat inside, but there are tables on the outdoor patio. Cocktails, and wine menu, again, excellent. A MUST DINE destination. John and Maureen
An outstanding girls night out venue at this Calgary institution! the atmo is on point and our server Shane knocked it out of the park- superb food and drink recommendations, attentive and just so fun. Try the Sophia Loren cocktail, Italian sodas, focaccia, Italian fried chicken and carbonara. Chef s kiss. 10/10 would recommend Thank you Shane and the magnificent kitchen!
My lady and I had a great experience at the Bonterra. The food was really nice , and the service was outstanding. Our server, Anton , particularly made the occasion more special. He was funny yet reserved , and had an air of elegance around him . I also requested for a special note for my lady and it looked so amazing . I highly recommend this place .
Beautiful venue and great atmosphere. The carpaccio and calamari were delicious truly 10/10. The server was kinda rude but he could ve been having a bad day so I ll give him the benefit of the doubt. The carbonara was decent just way too peppery for my personal taste, overall good!
I recently had a disappointing experience at Bonterra Trattoria. To start, we were given the wrong menu, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. To my dismay, the menu lacked traditional lasagna, a staple of Italian cuisine. The food we ordered was mediocre at best, lacking the rich flavors one expects from authentic Italian dishes. Moreover, the service was painfully slow, turning what should have been a pleasant meal into an exercise in patience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of a satisfying pasta dish at a reasonable price.
Excellent food and service. Give a try to it!
We rented the wine room with for our wedding reception. It was fantastic! Christina, the events co-ordinator, was extremely responsive and helpful. We made many changes and asked lots of questions. She was very patient with us. Shane, the head server, made us feel very comfortable. He was always there and made everything so easy for us. He recommended drinks that he thought were the best, not just what was most expensive. He also took pictures of our group for us. We went with curated Chefs family experience. This was a 4 course meal with a variety of appetizers, salads, pastas and meats. The serving sizes were huge and the food was amazing. They packed up all of the left overs, so our guests had lots to take. Bonterra made us an awesome custom chocolate cake that tasted great and was huge! Too big to eat all of it, so our guests had cake to take home as well. Thank you Shane, Christina and everyone else that made this such a special day for us . Parking: Free parking in the back. You just register your license plate inside.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pasta Food
Nice atmosphere but very noisy. Good food They are not real Italian dishes, but revised so that they can be enjoyed in the country.
Best patio in Calgary. Matt the manager and Tatiana our server made my wife s birthday. We didn t appreciate the reception we had a different restaurant so we called bonterra. The host that answered the phone was amazing. Matt greeted us as we walked in and made sure we were comfortable. Tatiana was so personable and friendly at the table. Described the food perfectly and really just saved the night. I can t speak highly enough of the experience. Thank you.
My first time here. Was very impressed. The court yard patio is charming. Great place for a pleasant afternoon. We ordered the table dhôtel, which was a three course meal for $32. First came a tomato soup with a kind of dumpling and a crouton. It was very tasty. Then we had a bison penne. This was delicious. Lastly a plate of cookies, or sweet pastries. Not sure if this was worth the $32, but Ill take it. Theres no price on a good time. The staff were exceptional and the ambiance was fantastic.
Best tiramisu, carpaccio is so tender.
My partner and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary here. Bonterra is one of our favourite restaurants in Calgary. It has, by far, the best patio in the city with lots of shade for these hot summer days. The food was amazing, as always, and the service was excellent. Our server, Caroline, was very friendly and kindly accommodated a couple of special requests. She was friendly, upbeat, fun and attentive. Nothing but good things to say about Bonterra all round. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, the food is fabulous, and the service is consistently excellent. Highly recommend.
This was a great place to celebrate my friend s birthday! Food was good, great patio seating, parking was free, and we were easily able to push back our reservation time when I called to ask.
Very good food and ambiance. Service was excellent and look forward to our next visit!
Amazing! Will definitely be back
It was our first time to visit. Ordered pasta and dessert. Pasta was pretty good but nothing special, average. But the lemon cake was OMG sooo good!! I will go back just for dessert and coffee, haha. Amazing presentation, service was excellent as well. Lovely place.
Excellent meal, everything was prepared perfectly. The calamari salad was delicious, the focaccia so light and fresh, and the pork porterhouse was a fantastic dish. Great space and friendly service. Highly recommended!
Had a first date here and it was a lovely spot! The food was SO good and the waitress made a great wine pairing recommendation for us.
I recently visited Bonterra after hearing Chef Kevin had returned and boy am I ever glad I did! His food is outstanding and each dish that was brought to our table was perfection. The calamari (of course) was so fresh and delicate and their Italian imported Burrata cant be matched. The star of the show was the spicy lobster linguini. Our server Tanis was such a delight. She was always one step ahead of us and treated us like family. We will surely be back very soon! Cant wait to sit on the patio and enjoy some drinks and snacks in their little oasis.
A splendid casual dining experience was enjoyed by the whole family. The staff are very polite and professional, frequently visiting tables making sure drinks and appys are full and fresh. 10/10 Parking: Free parking at hostess check in
First time actually impressed with Italian food in Calgary! Definitely recommend.
Thanks Anton for the best service ever. We were glad to meet you, good luck. Lagsania, pork were delicious, awesome coctails and cappuccino and tiramisu Highly recommend. Food
There is a reason for all of the 1 star reviews: The worst dinning experience I have ever had in YEARS. Me and my boyfriend came to this special Valentines dinner. We were so excited for this dinner as it was our first Valentine and to spend the time in Bonterra. The food, the service, everything you can expect from a ZERO STAR restaurant. You cannot taste anything from the venison carpaccio except salt. It was just like eating pure salt! There was no flavor of the meat at all. Fine, then comes to the gnocchi. Worst gnocchi I have ever had. It was so oily that you really do not want to have a second bite. Then it took them 40 minutes to bring the main dish, at the time it was already 21:40. While we were waiting for the main dish, we have to call the waiter, who is only serving 3 tables, to ask for the main dish. We told the waiter that we were so hungry and we have already waited for a long time. Another 20 minutes passed, the waiter told us they still need 15 minutes. At the time, I can see there were at least 5 people in the kitchen and was cleaning up, then I realized, they were waiting to go home! The waiter has only us and another 2 groups in the restaurant. For the entire dinner, he only came to check on us maximum 2 times, the other times we had to call him. Lastly it came to the dessert, for a Valentines dinner, it was really disappointing that it was castagnole, the easiest dessert you can do from a restaurant. But I was not expecting anything more at that point. When we asked for the bill, the server did not even ask us about our experience! All he said was that the gratuity is included. SERIOUSLY? We were not told that the gratuity was going to be included before we booked the dinner. At that moment, everything was so clear. The server did not need to try any harder to get the tips as he knew it will be included. It s normal to tip after you dine in but NEVER under such a bad experience. Shame on them.
Outstanding food. Mediocre service.
I had booked this restaurant for a birthday dinner - a group of 10. This reservation was made approximately 2 weeks ago. When the majority of my group arrived at 7:30, we were told they were preparing the table & waiting for the previous group to finish dessert/pay their bills. We were not seated until an hour later, at 8:30pm. To make up for this, the manager had given each guest a glass of prosecco while we had waited at a table outside and a couple appetizers once we were seated - free of charge. While these were greatly appreciated and made the overall experience better, it was still disappointing that we had to wait an hour to be seated at a table that was booked in advance for a reservation, and if anything my group would have preferred to have been seated on time rather than wait and been given additional appetizers. As a result of this the following plans we had for this birthday after dinner had to be adjusted (reservations that occurred after the dinner were shifted to accommodate the additional hour that we had to wait for our table, which lucky was possible on such short notice). If Bonterra wanted to book two birthdays back to back, it is their responsibility to honour the reservation time that a guest books, otherwise what is the purpose of booking a reservation? If they are unable to meet the timing restraints, they should not accept reservations of that size, or within close time periods. Alternatively they should have warned the previous party that they had an incoming reservation coming at 7:30 and would need to clear the table, things that could have been easily communicated. Beyond this experience with our reservation, once we were seated things were much more smooth. Bonterras food is always amazing, I wont disregard the chefs or waiters that helped us as that would be unfair. Highly recommend any of their pastas - I dont think you can go wrong with any of them! My last comment would be the cake that I had brought in was cut largely uneven, to a very noticeable degree. I get that cutting a cake into 10 is difficult, but it was to the point where someone would get a slice of cake that was double in size compared to someone seated beside them. This did make for some silly laughs across the table, but I would have hoped for equal portioning for a cake when cut.
My boyfriend and I ate dinner here for a special celebration and it was fantastic. I personally loved the calamari and the lamb, it was really good. Our server was also very accommodating and went above and beyond!! very very nice staff. We will definitely be back.
I came to this restaurant for tasting its rosotto and definitely, I loved it. I would highly recommend Bonterra for the risotto and fettuccini vongole too! Caroline provided us a great service.
Went here for my one year anniversary and my expectations were blown out of the water. When we walked in we were greeted by a server who was friendly and kind and gave us our preferred table as we were the last reservation of the day! We then met our server who was outstanding and made sure our every need was met. He explained the menu to us and gave us wine pairings for each of our courses. The quality of food is outstanding and the lamb was some of the best I have ever had. We are making it a tradition to come back here for any special occasion. We have found our all time favourite restaurant in Calgary!
Food was very very good, tasty and great presentation, service was lovely and quick. Very neat little restaurant, the upstairs was a bit chilly but otherwise a really great dining experience. Food
Enjoyed celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary at Bonterra this past Saturday evening. We were delighted with the awesome service, the fantastic menu and yummy food and the surprise glass of sparkling wine to start our anniversay dinner date. Very thoughtful. Our server was attentive and made the Bonterra experience exceptional. We will most certainly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back!
This place is a total winner, the food is insanely good, and the vibe is just perfect for a laid-back hangout with friends. Plus, their menu? Its so inviting, youll want to try everything!
Had a wonderful dinner tonight with family. Very good food and server Mathew P was very helpful and attentive. Will surely come back.
Ok food. Expensive for what it is
Fantastic
The atmosphere and customer service here is amazing, but the food is unbelievable. Its not the cheapest place to eat, obviously... but even at the price of each meal, it feels like an absolute bargain. The wife and I have attended twice now, and both times have been the same level of quality in the food and the service. Had the carbonerra pasta with carpaccio, the roast chicken and veg, and a starter faccocia bread with goat cheese and cranberry topping lastnight... exquisite. ALL of it. (And only cost us $81) They will be seeing me and my wife many times to come when we want a nice date night at a very reasonable price.
We were there before a Flames game. Great experience, the staff were awesome, and the place was packed. Definitely recommend.
Terrible service and waited 2 hours for our food ON VALENTINES DAY. After waiting 2 hours we told the waiter that we re tired and would like for him ti check on the food. He agrees to quickly get back to us but disappears for 30 minutes and does not acknowledge us between that time. At the end of the night he says tip has been included. I would give negative tip it was available, but unfortunately I had to give the mandatory 20%. It went against every moral fibre I had in my body to give 20% tip on the worst dinner experience of my life. Trust me, I usually ignore reviews that slam service if the food is good because food > everything. HOWEVER, this is not the case. The food (pasta abd mains of veal and fish) was very mid and the dessert of doughnut balls with sprinkles on top is reminiscent of stale timbits. This is not the quality I expect of this type of establishment. Rest assured I will NEVER in my life visit here again nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone else. I will forever be an opponent of this god forsaken restaurant and hope they get their act together because this is unacceptable of a restaurant of their claim of reputation.
Took my partner here for dinner tonight to celebrate his graduation from university. The hostess was lovely and our server was excellent. The food was delicious! We started with the house-made Focaccia and both ordered the Lasagnacce con Cinghiale for our main course. We were seated in the wine room and our only complaint is that it was quite noisy and difficult to hear each other over everyone else s conversation (plus a baby that was crying). But overall, nothing too terrible! We had a lovely time celebrating together.
Gluten free is not stated on the menu, but they had quite a few options. Vegetarian options: Spaghetti squash was vegetarian Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and celiac friendly
Went there for lunch and overall not too shabby. The carbonara pasta was a bit over cooked, but the rest of the food was decent. The service was a bit slow since they had one person working all the tables. The bread is a must try. Will definitely try again for casual lunch.
Really delicious food and great service. Very nice interior. Be ready to spend lots
Good food. Friendly staff.
I guess this is good Italian? Not very impressed with $30 spaghetti and red sauce. They were offering a sample menu of their new opening restaurant in Banff .the Heavy Pig of something. So I tried the Osso Buco. Worst one I have ever had. Tender yes, any flavor to impart, no. The Mussels were great, the Calamari salad was great ..the rest was bland and expensive. Wish we would have went to Pizza next door.
My lovely place Always good food!!! So cool service! Food
Tried this place for the first time and it was absolutely incredible! The service from everyone was soo good, very attentive and friendly.. significantly better than most restaurants we ve been to lately. The food was amazing - the grilled calamari was not at all what we were expecting but it s hands down the best calamari we ve ever had - super authentic flavours, it felt like we were eating at a restaurant on the Mediterranean. What a treat to get this in Calgary! The goat cheese and focaccia was fantastic, the wildflower honey was really tasty. We ordered the beef cheek pasta after it was described as having a strong umami flavour, and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend a wine pairing with this one. We finished with traditional style Neapolitan gelato mostly to cleanse our palate but it was surprisingly delicious. The vanilla bean flavour was on point, and the jam was a great pairing, not too sweet. Cannot wait to come back here, I want to try everything on the menu!!!
The hostess Heaven was incredible. We were sat with Scott and he took the best care of us. We had multiple laughing conversations with both Scott, heaven and other employees. As the female, when I left the table to go outside for a moment I came back to the table to see my jacket straighened on my seat and both mine and my dates napkins folded neatly. That was a very welcoming experience. When we meantioned it to heaven she explained that he only does that to his tables because he cares so deeply. The food was incredible and perfectly filling. When you go to this restaurant ask for the bartenders special drink that she makes. It s always different, focuses on what you enjoy and don t enjoy, and makes sure your allergies are taken into account. 10/10 experience. Food was incredible. Service was something out of this world. And atmosphere was so comforting. I have never been greeted at the door with more love and respect then I have here. Heaven and Scott were the most precious people.
Writing this review two weeks late so I can confidently say this place left a good taste in my mouth. Since the moment we stepped in, my partner and I were treated like VIPs. The place was packed to the brim in what they said was an unexpected turnout and although they were forced to bring food to the bar to feed some patrons, the manager made use of the fact that we came in a few minutes before our reservation to accomodate us in a semi private spot so that we could enjoy our date. Our section was served by Tatyana who was incredible personable. The food tasted exactly like the food I would expect at home in Italy, especially the boar pasta. There was a large table next to us which congratulated Tatyana on the great service, and she definitely earned it. This restaurant gave us the best service we experienced, and I definitely recommend it!
Food was delicious and the ambience was great. We had a great time and the service was top notch. Menu is a bit on the pricey side but is well worth it
My husband and I were on a date Friday February 9th and we were so impressed with the start to finish service and food. Heaven the host was so awesome and made us feel welcome. The food was delicious and service was great. Can t wait to come back.
We had a lovely dinner at Bonterra. Food was awesome, as well as the service. Strongly recommended.
European vibes in Calgary. Brings back some lovely memories. Delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful interior. 10/10
Lovely place filled with warm & friendly staff+ delicious food. Had a family gathering & we were well taken care of by the host. Cabonera was so creamy & one of the best Italian dishes i have tasted. Good selection of wine as well. However, kid friendly food & drink options seemed very limited. Thats why only 4 stars from me. Parking: Free for customers
A beautiful dining experience with tastes unique and memorable, in a venue that oozes with ambiance. Service leaves nothing wanting, from first contact at the hostess desk, through wine pairing advice while ordering, and attentive but unobtrusive check-ins by different members of the house staff throughout. Parking: Parking is available behind the restaurant, in a metered lot, but Bonterra will comp three hours for your visit. Do not pay for parking at the lot pay station. Go inside and register for the free option at their check-in desk.
David was an excellent host! Perfect wine recommendation and wonderful food. Everyone seems very gracious and welcoming. Thank you.
I took my Son for his birthday to Bonterra as I had heard great things about this restaurant. First of all I have to say how great the hostess/manager was as she made the evening memorable. She knew it was my Son s birthday and when he got there she brought Prosecco for us to start our celebration. She also came a few times to our table. Honestly if it wasn t for her our evening would have been worse. I ordered the pomodero and asked if they could add meatballs. The rest of the table ordered arctic char. Our food took incredibly long to get to the table and our waiter barely came around. Even when asked for the bill it took him .15 minutes to arrive and he also gave me the wrong bill. Once I asked for my bill it took him about 10 more minutes. He barely even smiled when he came to our table. My Son and his Mom who ate the arctic char said it was good but my dish was lukewarm and the meatballs were overdone. At the end of the day must have been an off night, the restaurant was quite full and the ambiance was great. Once again I sincerely want to thank the Lady who real made my Son feel great for his bday.
Let me be the first to tell you that the focaccia is not just bread that stuff is crack it s so good. Insane crust and saltiness. Carbonara was great, very heavy! we had 2 come to the table and one was steaming hot, one was window hot. All good! Im clinically insane but the arancini had a fishy taste, still a banger though. Server was solid, would like to hear more variety in responses so that it feels more genuine.
5 stars all around. The Gnocchi was fantastic. Well done.
Great food! Compliments to all chefs , bar tenders (amber) who made delicious cocktails and great service from Tatiana. We will be back
We visited Bonterra Trattoria on NYE s and had the most wonderful experience. All the servers and staff were super friendly, the atmosphere was so nice and the food was 10/10. They have the best tiramisu in the city! A special shoutout to Tannis for making our night extra special. She had amazing recommendations and the best customer service. She was attentive and made sure we had a comfortable evening from the moment we sat down on our table. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night or a special event.
Was there on the weekend and had Tatyana serve my friend and I. We were having a little celebration and she definitely made it a great experience. Great food and great service!
Another perfect night at Bonterra! Amber (the bartender) made some amazing cocktails & mocktails and really made our evening feel special. Tatiana (server) made some perfect food recommendations (the calamari salad stands above any other calamari). Cant wait to eat here again and try out more delicious drinks.
Good food, nice staff, great service, awesome food. All that for a reasonable price!
Made a reservation weeks ago requesting a table outside for a birthday celebration but people who do walk-ins get priority. The food was good but took about 50 minutes to arrive, better options in the area.
Bonterra Patio party 2023. After a solid 10 years of attending this event and enjoying it it with a dozen plus friends every year, I will not return. $106 for a ticket (Vs $65 for my previous ticket)for basic appetizers. The food was nothing like the last decade. One table of basic cheese, olives, arincini, a few salads and risotto. Risotto was the only hot pasta dish served by the restaurant. Nit like previous years when pork and beef were served alongside multiple pastas. There was zero seating even to set your wine glass on. I felt terrible for the elderly gentleman that took his girlfriend out for D-day and stood while eating. Another individual in a cast stood with crutches. Wine Vendors were less than desirable as compared to previous years. Bonterra lost my business fully after this fiasco.
10/10 time at Bonterra. Food and service were both amazing (shout out to our server Shane) The bruschetta and the pork dish are to die for Food : 5/5
Amazing place. I was there yesterday for a early father s day celebration and I got to say the place is FANTASTIC. The food is beyond delicious, from appetizers all the way to dessert. Service was 5 stars and the atmosphere too was beautiful. My new favorite place in Calgary.
Ahhh. It was a special celebration for a 40th bday and health news and the server was pushy and awful and told us to chill and said we had to order everything all at once, appies and mains and wouldn t take our order until we knew it all. I told the manager he was brutal and she said she has worked with him for 5 years plus and then he said he s only been there for one month. It was the worst service and ruined a great night. Food was ok? Super brothy and wet. Beyond disappointing. Can t believe how bad actually. Go for a corporate lunch but not for anything special. Brutal
Very nice Italian Restaurant. Ate family style so could sample a variety and everything was delicious.
Great place ,good food, calamari is a must try
Food and atmosphere (i.e. the decor) were perfect. The focaccia bread is the best Ive ever tasted - so good you wont even want to dip it in olive oil or balsamic vinegar. Yummy cocktails too. Prices are very reasonable.
This has been our favourites for over two decades but after our weekend visit this is now the worst Italian restaurant in the city. The new menu is very blend and expensive. Waiters have an attitude and always in a hurry. The outdoor patio with new plastic tables and chairs is ruined. We are done with this place. What a shame to go from best to worst.
Lovely food but we waited 2 hours for our entree. Staff was apologetic and provide a glass of champagne and desert on the house.
Beautiful anniversary lunch. Our server Tatyana was lovely - warm, welcoming, and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed the Cato salad, Ciopinno, and Lamb stew. Outstanding!
Great patio... Great food
Amazing carbonara! Everything was perfect Food
We had high hopes for Bonterra, but unfortunately, it didn t match up. While everything was fine, it was incredibly expensive. The food tasted good, but very small portions. Our server seemed stressed and overwhelmed, which wasn t great. The kitchen took a long time due to a wedding, in fairness, we were warned about the food taking longer right at the beginning. Because of this, our server made us order all of our food at once, which didn t help (still took an hour). This was also a loud restaurant, not great for a quite romantic dinner.
First off- I wish I can give this place a 0/5. Came from out of town eager to try this place, hungry and excited. When I got there, the server warned us that service will be slow because of a small wedding they were hosting- why keep the restaurant open if the service was going to be slow and hectic. Next thing, the menu is small- there was 5 different pasta dishes, 3 of the 5 had a topping of pork- we asked for religious reason if there were any way we can take off the pork- the waiter said no he can t make the accommodation and we were stuck with 2 options. Since, we asked that question the waiter was short with us- we still asked what he recommended from the shareable plates, and we asked if it was good for 5 people - he said it was huge and we ordered 2 plates- the plates was a kid size meal cannot even feed one adult, and for the price- not worth it. The waiter acted like he did not have the time to answer any questions about the dishes. Our waiter was so busy, we thought we d ask any waiter for help (2 different people) and was told I am not your waitress/waiter - okay, but am I not a customer- guess, I won t get a refill. The food portion was so small and flavourless and would rate it 1/5. Honestly, I guess the service really ruined my overall experience and would never come back again nor recommend it to anyone. Yikes.
Came here for a dinner date and had a wonderful experience. The service was very welcoming and friendly, the servers kept our water topped and the recommendations were great. Highly suggest getting the Calamari as it was delicious. Combined with a lovely atmosphere and this place made our dinner date one to remember.
Great place , great food and great people
Worst calgary restaurant experience. Receptionist wasnt there so all guests were waiting at the tiny entrance being pushed around by waiters. She came back and wasnt happy seeing us. )) Server, with 2 or 3 tables was late every step of the way. Food, yikes. It must be criminal to be serving that calamari. Photo added. It was salty and stinking. The calamari had gone bad. Photo attached. Carpaccio. The chef thought lets soak raw meat in olive oil and lemon, cover it with layers of spinach, and serve it. Poor Carpaccio. Pros. Great decor and interior. Alas, all to waste.
What a stunning place for brunch! The outdoor patio is stunning as is the main dining room. Hard to believe you are in Downtown Calgary. Food and cocktails were delicious and our server Teresa was awesome! We will be coming back
***FOOD POISONING*** Took 2.5 hours to get the food, once received the carbonara was overly salted and the pork undercooked as I have been sick for the last 1.5 days. Service was slow, the waiter was nice but was consistently telling us no, for example, ordering appetizers first then our mains - that was a no. When they printed the separate bills incorrectly we requested a correction, they advised its going to take some time, by this time it had been 3 hrs of mediocre dining so we paid and left. Drinks were watered-down and mediocre at best, not worth the prices theyre charging. Im not sure what happened but this amazing venue just wasnt delivering. Overall, do not recommend.
Great food and service Parking: The designated lot was full, parked a few blocks away Food : 5/5 |
The service, atmosphere, and location is fantastic. This was our third time, and the third time meat was served under done and required sending it back to the kitchen. This time it was pork tenderloin, and it was raw. It is confusing to me how it leaves the kitchen raw on one side. It is worth noting the pasta dishes are always well prepared and very good, it is sad they cannot cook meat. At this point it may not be enough to attempt a 4th visit.
We wanted to do a chefs tasting but no longer available. Instead, we ordered a number of dishes to share. Ordered the florentine steak. A bit disappointing for the price. Bone in strip loin instead of a porterhouse. Found it to be tough. Cooked perfectly and tasty though.
Hands down one of the best experiences ever! Our server, Stephen, made everything such a delight and had us smiling and laughing until our bellies ached. I was visiting out of town and catching up with friends. We ordered a lot of what Stephen recommended and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, cozy and reminded me of an Italian countryside winery. We had the best time and would 100% visit again - thank you Stephen and staff for such a memorable experience!
This place was absolutely fantastic!!! Had aranchini, focaccia bread and pomodoro pasta. And it was phenomenal. I hope to come here again soon.
Surprised at how good the Sunday Brunch was: great tasting and big portions, and nice patio too!
The Tiramisu is so good. Its the best tiramisu I had in Canada. Perfect for me. Sweetness is perfect because I dont like too sweet dessert. Im pregnant, and I just suddenly craved and got it for takeout. It doesnt say it contains raw egg and alcohol in their menu. Would definitely come back. Everyone is really nice. They let us sit inside while waiting.
We had a wonderful dinner with great suggestions from Scott. Amazing burrata and chicken entree. The best of downtown Calgary
Amazing as always!!
We had dinner in their patio, the surrounding is beautiful! Service was awesome, and food was delicious!
Atmosphere So Beautiful,Food was on point!! Service was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend!
Weve been going to Bonterra for years - the food, service and atmosphere are always good. We went this past weekend for a birthday celebration, and the experience was the best ever. The cocktails were new and very good, the food was outstanding, and the service impeccable. I really liked the fact that we were not rushed and there was time to relax and chat between courses. We sat in the courtyard, which is a lovely atmosphere. The only niggling issue was the fact that the gas heaters were not adjustable, so were either on full blast (too hot) or off (too cool). However, this was a minor issue and overall our experience was, as usual, fantastic.
The Calamari and Linguine alle Vongole were our favorites. Dietary restrictions: Staff are able to work around our restrictions. Food : 5/5 |
Stopped by, visit to Alberta. delicious halibut and to die for burrata from the restaurant s garden.
The pork dish was absolutely amazing. The carbonara, unfortunately, was too salty and the cream had separated. Service and atmosphere was excellent.
First, the place has great service and ambience. For appetizers we had the bruschetta (excellent), the grilled calamari (outstanding) and the olives (terrific). Wine pairings suggested were top notch. For the main courses we had seafood linguini (pretty good), and Tagliatelle alla Bolognese (not good). The bolognese had a bland taste to it, almost as if no tomatoes were used and the pasta wasnt Al Dente. For dessert we had the tiramisu (not bad). Overall it was pretty good. I just wouldnt have the Bolognese.
One of the worst dishes Ive ever had at a restaurant. The ambiance and staff were great though. Gnocchi - 5/10. Oddly grainy, tomatoes were fresh and cheese didnt make the dish overly salty Burrata - 8/10. Burrata and mint with the nuttiness of the pistachio and toasted focaccia Focaccia - 7/10. Its bread. Spaghetti Carbonara - 2/10. The saltiest dish I have ever tried. The amount/saltiness of the cheese made the dish inedible and we had to take the dish home to add more noodles. Linguine Vongole - 4/10. Great portion of mussels in the dish. Noodles cooked well. Overall dish was quite bland. Drinks - 10/10. We shared multiple cocktails that were all wonderful. Best cocktails Ive had in Calgary.
The great things: *Decor: I really enjoyed everything about the interior. It was cozy, classy, and very European. I could tell there was lots of thought + $ invested in the looks of the restaurant. *Food: We ordered quite a few dishes, as we were curious about the flavors. Some were truly wonderful, like their focaccia and gnocchi. Others, were just good. For the price, I expected more! Also, more vegetarian options would be amazing. The not-so-great things: *Service: Wow... I was very disappointed with the service. Our waiter was quite clumsy and mediocre at best. He never asked us if it was our first time or if there was anything he could recommend. The hospitality was lacking. It was actually non-existent. Im not sure if he worked at a corporate business before but we didnt feel welcome or cared for. It was my birthday, which no one acknowledged even though my husband put it in a comment along with our reservation. It was pretty sad to see that no one really cared at this otherwise full of potential resto. The manager (who was the manager?!) didnt smile once. Oh, yeah, the host (who I believe is also the manager) was cold and absolutely, not friendly. *I really wanted to love this place but oh, well. Hopefully, theyll improve on some points. Vegetarian options: There were a few, but not enough.
Last night, we took part in Bonterra s Under the Tuscan Sun event. Reservations for tables of four, all served family style with a set menu. My partner and I have dined at Bonterra a number of times, but have not partaken in any of their events as I am vegetarian, and their set menus have not often offered selections that included options for me. After viewing the menu for this event, we gathered 2 friends and made a reso. We booked an early dinner at 5.30, and the place was full by 7. We were set up in the patio garden area, where the ambiance is absolutely beautiful in the warmer months. To say the food was plentiful would be an understatement. Soup, 6 anti-pasti, 2 primis, a secondi with 3 sides, plus dessert, all to be shared family style. The value for the price of the ticket was excellent. My party loves to eat, and this was too much even for us! We ended up taking enough home for lunch the next day. While there was plenty of food, I would rate it as good, rather than spectacular (vegetarian and non vegetarian). All dishes were well themed with the evening, but only a few will live on in our memory as being something that we would make the trip back to have again. My feedback would be to offer slightly less in terms of quantity, and slightly more for quality. The primary reason for this review is to recognize the extraordinary service we received from our server, Tatyana. She was bubbly and energetic, and was on point with everything from our wine, to the food timing, plate clearing and silverware service. We have dined in a number of high end establishments, and this is by far the best service we have received in a very long time. Enormous thanks to Tatyana for making our visit an outstanding experience. Bonterra continues to be fave spot for us, and we will definitely be back for future events.
Matt was an incredible server! The food was absolutely delicious! Great value for a beautiful dinner downtown Calgary!!
We were a party of 9. We ordered appies to share and then individual main courses. The portions are large. We didnt have room for dessert.
Amazing heated patio for a cozy evening. The staff is courteous and helpful with suggestions. Loved the preparation of pollo.
Excellent service and great food! Highly recommended.
We stumbled upon this place on a random Wednesday evening after moving to the west end of downtown. Unbelievable food AND service. Top notch atmosphere. I would highly recommend sitting at the bar if Steven is serving he gave us a whole run down of the menu and was so lovely to chat with. The Pollo was the incredible, best calamari in the city. Can t say enough great things about this place. We will be back :) YUM!
Nice patio! The service was professional and attentive and the food rich and flavorful. Had the risotto, mushroom salad, carbonara and beef carpaccio. Nice cocktail selection, too.
Our server Shane guided us through the perfect dinning experience for a birthday celebration!
Shane is an absolute star. What amazing service! Everything was fantastic. Thank you!
The so called calamari on their menu is a bit misleading. I think they need to change the menu to say calamari salad OR fennel salad with calamari because if we had known that we definitely would not have ordered it! The fennel was insanely overpowering and you couldn t taste anything but that. it was a sad excuse for calamari (see attached picture) We also ordered two pasta dishes (gnocchi & spaghetti pomodoro) which were nothing special. For the price of the dishes at this restaurant it really wasn t anything remarkable. Not sure if they had a change in management or head chef in the last year but I can t recall having such a negative review of this restaurant the last time I was here in February 2022. The tiramisu was probably the only highlight of our dinner. Staff were also kind and the vibes were nice otherwise!
$29 for a single scallop. A nice restaurant but a new low in terms of insult to customers. We ordered two orders of scallops to split for our table of eight (8) and they brought us two (2) scallops. Go somewhere else if you want Canadian-Italian food. Update: We emailed the restaurant and they are sending a gift certificate. Apparently there was a problem with the order - this is not their intended order size.
Delicious
I will be back! What a gem of a restaurant. The food was amazing. I ordered the Formaggio di Capri and the Gnocchi di Agnello on recommendation of the fantastic server, April. She definitely helped make this a lovely experience! The focaccia toasties were an amazing combination of warm roasted grape jam, goat cheese and walnuts and the gnocchi was like velvet with a melt in your mouth lamb ragu. I finished with a half portion of the pumpkin tart feature dessert. It was a bit dark for food photos but the atmosphere was perfect. Parking: There is a lot right behind the restaurant. Just register your plate and there is no fee. There was plenty of spots open on a Saturday night with a full restaurant.
If you want to go to a restaurant for the vibes then youll be happy but if you care about how timely you are served your food or how good your food is then I would choose elsewhere. I came to bonterra 3 years ago and it was delicious and timely and the service was fantastic, however, my most recent visit for my anniversary was disappointing. The bruschetta went extremely downhill and wasnt really brushchetta and mostly consisted of cream cheese. The carpaccio was still delicious though! The sad part was we waited over 40 minutes after our appetizer for our main dish which was pasta and it wasnt anything special or distinctly delicious (and expensive). I have been to Italy and this restaurant is nowhere near up to par. Pasta shouldnt take almost an hour...Ive been served pasta in Italy within 10 minutes. I used to love this place but I will not be coming back again unless they change to how they were years ago. The service used to be fantastic but maybe they switched managaement and you would expect quality from a place that charges $ for reservations. If you want authentic Italian just go to Italy and youll save money on the food.
I was very disappointed after ordering my spaghetti Bolognese . In contrast to the traditional recipe which is based on a tomato sauce, this one was based on an oil (?) based sauce without any tomato puree. Unfortunately, it did not taste good at all and was not worth the price. Service was okay but forgot some orders.
My wife and I came here for our first Italian meal since returning from a trip to Italy. So with those high expectations this place did not disappoint! It was incredible! We tried the focaccia, veal meatballs, carbonara, bolognese, and the tiramisu. The portions were big and food was amazing! The wine selection was also very good. Our waiter, Scott, was super friendly, funny, and helpful! Definitely recommend giving this place a try.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a delightful brunch at Bonterra Trattoria, and I must say, their attention to detail and flavors is truly commendable. The cappuccino at Bonterra Trattoria is a true work of art. Rich, velvety foam atop a perfectly balanced espresso. The coffee beans quality shines through, making it a must-try for any coffee aficionado. The espresso paired with biscotti is a heavenly combination. The intensity of the espresso perfectly complements the subtle sweetness of the biscotti, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that lingers on the palate. The eggs benedict at Bonterra Trattoria is a game-changer. The focaccia bread, with its perfect balance of softness and crunch, serves as an excellent foundation for this flavorful masterpiece. Its a brunch item that stands out in both taste and presentation. Overall, Bonterra Trattoria has mastered the art of blending traditional Italian flavors with a modern twist. Each menu item is crafted with precision and care, making it a go-to destination for those seeking a memorable culinary experience. I cant wait to return and explore more of their menu.
Went there for Sunday Brunch and it was just excellent. The focaccia bread was outstanding, the Eggs Benedict scrumptious, and our server, Tatyana was delightful. Highly recommended.
The food was good except for the carbonara pasta that was too salty. But the restaurant took responsibility. The rest was a great experience
The staff and atmosphere are lovely but the food is always off. Ive been here about four times and Ive had two of the worst pasta dishes Ive had in Calgary - and Im very easily satisfied by pasta. One dish seemed like it was incomplete. I ended up packing it up and finishing preparation on it at home. The second dish was so salty and oily that it was borderline inedible. The other dishes have been very lackluster or have a very odd flavour profile. I cant comment on the appetizers or the non-pasta dishes. I will say that tiramisu is good. Ive given the restaurant ample opportunities to impress but I just cant justify returning for an expensive meal that is mediocre at best.
I visited this location for the first time to celebrate a dear friends birthday on the recommendation of a colleague. Very glad for the recommendation and I will certainly be making a return visit. As with almost all my reviews, its the staff who make or break the customer service experience. Our server was very polite, friendly and attentive but some of the other staff werent nearly as polished. The food was amazing. I found it to be decent value bordering on high priced. This place has a vibe that makes for a repeat customer - that you can count on!
Indulge in the exquisite flavors of the tiramisu at this Italian fine dining establishment. The velvety mascarpone, delicate layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, and a dusting of cocoa create a harmonious symphony for your taste buds. A truly decadent and memorable dessert that elevates the dining experience.
One of my top favorite restaurants in calgary, amazing services and tasty food.
Had a wonderful brunch! I do like having a great time with my friends eating brunch, but every time I go for brunch it somehow felt like unhealthy food. But brunch at Bonterra Trattoria was perfect. Tasted healthy. -Potato Pancake I had some from my friends dish, it is pancake made with potato. I loved the combination of mushrooms and potato. Didnt taste the meat on it much, but mushroom was so good. -Classic Breakfast The toast tasted awesome. I felt that it was toasted with truffle(or some other mushroom)oil, but it didnt feel heavy and I really loved the subtle taste. But I would have loved it more if my potatoes were less salty. Maybe I will ask next time. Unfortunately I dont remember the pastries name, but it was gluten free and the cherry sauce was delicious. Bonterra Trattoria had a lot of gluten free/vegi options and food was GReAt. Will visit again
A beautiful Italian trattoria that makes you feel like youre overseas on vacation. A menu full of delectable classic Italian fare executed to perfection. The service staff is attentive and on point. A must try if you havent and a staple favorite for those who have.
