200 8 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0K7, Canada
Refined eatery serving seasonal Mediterranean fare & global wines in a circa-1911 bank building.
Excellent Chef’s Tasting menu with classic wine pairings. Beautiful evening of celebration.
Regular spot for us. Consistently excellent and professional service. Beautifully prepared and delicious food. The pictures don’t do it justice. The environment is classy while not being inordinate.
We had the chefs tasting menu a while back and it was seriously some of the best food I’ve had in Calgary. I had all vegetarian plates and they were all amazing. The service was wonderful and all of the staff were super kind and lovely to be around. The price is a bit steep but all things considered it’s totally worth it!
Had an excellent dinner at Teatro in Calgary. I think they celebrated their 30th year this year, so they have been around a long time. We had a server dedicated to our party. Because of the size of the party, it had to be set menu. I thought the restaurant selected the items on the set menu but my parents chose the items. My parents chose 5 courses because 3 is too little and 4 isn't a good number for Chinese. The gazpacho was excellent. Refreshing and tasty. The watermelon was a good touch. Everyone felt it was one of the best they had, including those who had it in Spain. The scallops were excellent. Wow. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was a nice meld of tartness from the grapefruit and creaminiess of the sauce. I really enjoyed the salmon too, though some didn't like the tartness of the vinegar but I did. I felt it paired nicely with the creamy rice. Tiramisu was OK. Nothing special. Going back to service. Wow. There were two people who came late due car problem. When they arrived, we were on our 3rd course. The service tried to catch them up while ensuring the dishes were cooked right when they are to serve us. I saw discussions with our server and manager on how to time the dishes and if they should tell the cooks to start preparing the pasta. So to resolve the late arrivals being behind in the courses but not delay the kitchen, they did something that impressed us all....they combined main course with the scallops. So the late arrivals still had all the food and service was not delayed!
It's a Monday night Big mistake Wish we had waited. The reviews are so good but we had an only ok night. The Alberta lamb was great.
Perfection with food and service. Great location just a few blocks from our hotel. As soon as you entered the establishment, you were warmly welcomed. We were attentively taken care of throughout. The food was even better than we thought it would be, and the menu is wonderful with great choices; it was hard to choose. We were so happy with selections of the dry aged ribeye and the house made clam linguini. The oysters were fresh, not briny and best I've had in a long time.... they came with a picked sauce and freshly microplaned horseradish. The desserts were so good, not too sweet and complimented by the appropriate Gelato flavor. I wish I could stay a few more nights in Calgary and eat here again!
Food: everything was great - flavourful, various textured, yum! However, dessert was okay and I love cakes. Service: I read other reviews before putting mine and I'm surprised everyone commented about how great the service was, because the service we got was average, not the exceptional service I would look for at high end restaurants.
We had a fantastic lunch experience there. The service was exceptional; when we requested warm water, the waitress promptly brought us elegant teacups filled with steaming hot water. The bread served with olive oil was incredibly tasty. Our choice of roasted pepper and tomato soup was simply amazing, especially on a cold day like today. Later, we decided to try the pizza topped with mushrooms, arugula, and honey. Initially, I was hesitant about honey on pizza, but it surprisingly complemented the earthy flavors of the mushrooms perfectly. Overall, it was a memorable experience with impeccable service and delicious food.
Always a great night at Teatro. Great wine list. One of the better places in the city to dine
Thanks for helping us celebrate our dear friends birthday. A review for Teatro has been long overdue, as every visit has been nothing short of exceptional. From the lovely service to the outstanding food and extensive wine selection, this restaurant consistently impresses. Tonight was no different. With most of the restaurants guests catching a show afterward, the team managed the pace beautifully. We started with the Beef Carpaccio, Calamari, and Caesar Salad all delicious and expertly prepared. For our mains, we chose the evenings special, a wonderfully made Branzino (fish), Beef Tenderloin and the Bison Striploin, all cooked to perfection and plated with care. Dessert was the Tiramisu paired with coffee a sweet end to a wonderful meal. Even with a bit of a time crunch, everything was seamless, making it an enjoyable pre-show outing. A quick note for anyone planning to visit: parking can be a challenge, so we d recommend taking an Uber or similar service. On a previous visit, we tried the Tasting Menu, which was an incredible experience. Just be sure to set aside a few hours to savor every course it s well worth it. Teatro truly delivers on every front, and we can t wait for our next visit!
Havent been for many years. As wonderful as we remember .
There were multiple misses on timely delivery of water, menus and the main course. Im disappointed in a restaurant of this caliber.
Went in for a large lunch on Friday afternoon. We ordered Calimarri to start, and Flank steak to share. Service was perfect. The food was exceptional, and the presentation was unique. Super tasty and divine. Food : 5/5
Tried to book a group dining of 11 ppl and they told us we had to do a 3 courses minimum including appetizer; entree and dessert - fine Told us we have to pre-order a week before our reservation - fine Sent us the menu and told us to pick from ONLY 2 entrees So - limited menu options with minimum spend and also pre-order a week in advance. No thank you, there is plenty of fine dining in Calgary.
Thoroughly enjoyed my 3rd anniversary dinner here. Tannis was a great host and attended to every of our need.
Generally okay. Ambience was exquisite. Food wasn t all that
Veryyy very nice restaurant, the atmosphere is amazing, I haven t seen a better service in my life. I recommend to order the burrata and calamari.
Very good experience.
Honestly, the service was trying a lot, they werent bad but not good enough for that kind of place. Dont blame them though cause the food was the worst part. Please, either change your chef or change your price because both of them dont work together. Get a better chef if you want to keep those prices. Serving fish and chips or fried calamari or tabouleh and couscous, I mean... Come on. A little more effort please. At least the alcohol is great. Dont bother spending your money on this place. You can get better food for less expensive.
We got married here and LOVED it. Suzanne and the staff took great care to arrange everything beautifully, the food and drink were fantastic, and the space was so nice. Everything went even better than we had hoped. I would very highly recommend it to anyone considering a wedding venue. The main room is beautiful for a ceremony, the opera room makes for a great cocktail hour while theyre preparing the room for dinner, and then of course you get to enjoy one of Calgarys top restaurants for food (and dancing!), with an amazing selection in the cellar. Suzanne was very attentive and helpful with sorting out details and coordinating with vendors and rentals, which made things much easier. 100% recommend.
Update: 9 Oct 2024. Still amazing food, service and atmosphere. Surprisingly, after all this time, this was the first time Ive been to Teatro Ristorante. My initial thought was that this was going to be to high class for me. Although the decor, menu, atmosphere, service and food was all top shelf, I felt completely comfortable because the servers and management really made us feel like we were home and appreciated. I was there over lunch and they had a fantastic menu, they also had a preset lunch menu which was absolutely delicious and well priced. I had the soup, which was delicious and hot; the Pork Belly that was a nice helping with Gnocchi and the Carrot Cake was moist and flavorful. Reservations are recommended and for good reason. Dont be afraid to treat yourself.
My partner and I went to Teatro for our anniversary last year and had such an amazing time that we decided to come back for our anniversary this year. To say they outdid themselves is an understatement! Every staff member went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome and special from the moment we walked in. Our server Michelle was an absolute delight, very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was even better than we remembered, and we loved every bite. We cannot wait for next year, as we will most definitely be back! Thank you Teatro Team!
Anniversary dinner and (as always) amazing food, ambiance, and lovely service. Not rushed but prompt, amazing food and once again an amazing experience. Both chose the halibut this time with tiramisu and chocolate hazelnut dessert. Teatro never disappoints - there is a reason they have been around so long ..will return next year - again!
Sadly this place has gone down hill lately, service was subpar and the food was dry. Management does nothing to make things better, guess they are happy with disappointing people.
You could have an amazing evening somewhere or; an unforgettable evening here. Thats the difference between here and anywhere else. Its the experience of being here. 4/5 on food for presentation but the best steak and desserts I have ever had. Tira Misu and pumpkin pie were unreal.
Wonderful experience dining here visiting from the US. The service was outstanding but the food was delicious. The filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pasta bolognese was also exceptional. There were many things on the menu we wanted to try, but what we selected was the perfect quantity. I would highly recommend & will return when we re back in Calgary.
I always enjoy my experience at Teatro. The food is good, and the service is exceptional.
Extremely disappointed with the food. It was my birthday dinner, got the steak and it was very under cooked, they then took it back re fired it and brought back still under cooked and very dry. My water was never refilled. Was not offered a place to put my purse. All around extremely disappointed and will probably never be back.
Exceptional
Do not miss visiting this restaurant if you are in the area! Everything we ordered was amazing and the service, decor just adds to the experience! I ll definitely be back!
We booked the Opera room at Teatro for our wedding reception and it was AMAZING! 100% RECOMMEND!! It was really easy to book and Lauren is the event planner who helped us and she is great!! Always good communication with us since we started looking at Teatro! They are really flexible about any changes you want to do for the room to make it unique for your event!! She is a great listener that helped us on our wedding day to be the best day ever!! We are really great full with Rosalita and Tenner for the amazing service, Chef Camilo is great we loved his food!! And John who helped us to put together the room the night before our wedding! THANK YOU SO MUCH TEATRO, Vegetarian options: Super delicious! Dietary restrictions: They are willing to accommodate food for any type of dietary restrictions!
Just regular, nothing spectacular
We love Teatro! It is our go to spot for our company lunches and dinners. The food is always top notch, but the service is what always brings us back. Every Teatro team member is so personable and attentive. We look forward to coming back soon!
I came in with my family for a double birthday Celebration. Everything was flawless from the service to the timing of food. From the moment we walked in till the time we left our server Chris took great care of us. The food was amazing! Super happy with how everything turned out.
We had a very good dinner. The food was great with service to match. The building is a interesting and fun place to have a meal.
Good - creative but not weird - food, good service, a quiet and comfortable ambiance. What can one say? Definately one of Calgarys best.
Great place for a nice dinner!
Went last night for dinner and everything was superb. Our server was excellent and explained or recommended the menu to us. Try the gnocchi they currently have on the menu it s incredible!
It is expensive. However they were very eager to please and the food was great. The panisse was vegetarian and delicious. Unfortunately there was only one vegetarian dessert, the rest all had gelatin in them!! Vegetarian options: There are a few choices for plant-based people.
My husband and I celebrated his birthday here last month. It was our first experience at Teatro and we were so impressed by the delicious food, attentive service and overall ambiance of the place that we will certainly be back. Highly recommend!!
Good
The steak for two is worth the price. Great cocktails and superb service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good date night. Food : 5/5
Very fancy place. The personnel very friendly and courteous. We try the dish of the day (plate de jour), 3 courses and all of them were incredible, the flavors unexpected in a good way. Very reasonable price for this lunch. The only thing was the ling time waiting for each course, we decided to drink water but you can drink a bottle of wine waiting... but be careful with the price of the wines... you can try something that cost your month earnings! but the food worth the waiting time if you are bot in a hurry
OMG! To be fair, it was a private dinner but the food was superb, staff were great, beautiful restaurant.
One of the better meals Ive had in Calgary. Great service, beautiful building, spacious seating so you dont have the feeling of being crammed next to one another. Classy venue, great service, phenomenal wine list, fantastic food.
We definitely enjoyed our date night here. The service and food were impeccable and we will definitely visit again in the future. My fiancé is hoping that the mushroom risotto will be brought back to the menu.
Dessert was amazing.
The building this is located in is gorgeous. One of the few European esk architectures in the city. A friend and I went for oysters and wine after a show at the Jack singer and I was thoroughly impressed. The oysters were perfect, and the service great. I took one point off for food because they served the bread with oil but not balsamic vinegar. I found the oil a bit earthy and the vinegar would ve paired much better.
Amazing food & elegant atmosphere!
We were there for Mother s Day Brunch. We were seated right in front of a bathroom and could see everything inside it every time someone opened the door. The door doesn t easily close, so any time someone went in, it would stay open until one of us closed it. The service was slow and the food mediocre. My husband didn t touch his eggs Benedict, he said they were room temperature and the smoked salmon smelled fishy. My halibut cakes tasted very fishy and were just luke warm. The yogurt parfaits for the kids were so sour that even the adults didn t want to eat them. The food took forever to come out. Dessert was below average. My son ordered a sprite which he complained about tasting funny, when I tried it, it turned out to be Club Soda. A pretty disappointing experience for Mother s Day. They did take off the bill one full per person charge after we gave some feedback. This restaurant used to be a fine dining experience, with matching service. This is no longer the case. A day prior to our reservation, I received a call to let me know we only have 1.5 hours for our brunch and that high chairs were offered on a first come first serve basis (no guarantee) but that I could bring my own, with no strollers allowed inside. Way to stress out a mother the evening before Mother s Day. If you re going to have all these restrictions, then share them at the time of booking, not the evening before. One thing people have in Calgary is choice (a lot of it) and you essentially take that away from them by doing this the evening before. Overall a pretty disappointing experience.
We had a fantastic lunch experience there.
Steak was the best part!! Awesome vibes.
Smokey open oven burnt my eyes..
When we arrived, we were harassed by three waiters, after which it was the opposite, the service fell to neutral. I dont understand how there can be so many people in the kitchen, so few customers, and take so long to bring out the dishes. We ate ultra-salty Bolognese pasta, almost inedible. Dessert, an inedible crème brûlée, more sugar than cream.
After a couple of so-so experiences a few years back I went back for a business dinner. We all chose the tasting menu. Not one dish made a positive impression. The absolute worst gnocchi Ive ever had. Like hands down. But as bad as the food was, it was exponentially better than the service. Holy what a hot mess. Drinks took forever, delivered all at different times, as was the food. I honestly dont know how this restaurant has made it through all these years. Out of the way location for mid food and regrettable service. At least they offered to take our coats...
My service staff was outstanding and the sommelier was brilliant. A fantastic experience!
Service well done, thank you guys. Warm olives and calamari that exactly like. Excellent. Food : 5/5
Always a nice experience. Food was fantastic. The lobster lasagna was wonderful.
Delicious food in a marvelous environment with outstanding service. Parking: Parking across the street in Telus Center. $5.00 for 2 hours. Food : 5/5 |
We had a team dinner at Teatro two days ago, the food was great and mist of us ordered ribeye which cooked to perfection and tasted so good! The service and ambiance were great!
Realizing I hadnt eaten yet, I stopped by on a Wednesday, somewhat after lunchtime, to grab a bite between meetings with several of my clients in the downtown core. I had the carrot and ginger soup and some green tea. It was all perfect. Quiet, great service, lovely food, nice environment.
What a delightful experience! From the staff to the food to the ambience, such a beautiful dinner! Highly recommend the scallops and the seafood lasagne!
Great Italian fine dine restaurant in Calgary downtown. Staff was courteous and they catered to dietary needs happily. Yummiest calamari
This is a great restaurant we happened to be walking by at lunchtime and asked if there was a table free. The building is an old bank and has an air of grandeur with a solid bank feel. The staff were excellent. We had a bottle of red wine and a selection from their menu. One of the best pizzas we have had in a long time and the pasta beef ragu was delicious. The only let down was the mushroom rissoto. The rice was a little under cooked and the mushrooms were over salted. Overall still a great place to dine.
Amazing ambiance and service, worth going to for a nice night out
Everything is amazing but expensive. 3 scallops was $41. Bread service is $2 per person but we each only got a slice of baguette and some olive oil.
Hoping they start doing truffle tasting menus again. I have loved this place for years and had worked here for 3 years. Good to see theyre still going strong:)
Pasta tagliatelle was good bistecca was good. Service was average.
Overpriced for what it is. We love fine dining, but this one just didnt have the wow factor / food quality.
The food was absolutely amazing. Disappointed with the level of service that we experienced.
Came here for a birthday party. We had a beautiful 5 course prefixe menu, featuring items like classic Caesar, beef carpaccio, golden beet salad, mushroom risotto, chicken/beef. Now, the restaurant was also so accommodating for dietary restrictions, as a pescatarian, they came with equally beautiful modifications like warm fennel citrus salad, chickpea polenta, and no bacon on the classic Caesar. For the prefixe, I was impressed, I would love to come again and try the menu items as well! Drinks were average, espresso martini was 6/10 to me. Wine was delicious and paired well with the food. Decor was really classic and loved the old Italian feel.
Amazing food!
Amazing food, dining experience, and service. The endive and fennel salad was a hit and we had a delightful, thoughtful server who made everything special from the moment she greeted us at the table until we left for a show. Thank you!
Great service and ambiance , tried duck Breast which was a bit bland for my taste. Great wine selection.
Absolutely loved our visit to Teatro, the people, atmosphere and food are incredible. Love the location too!
I was on a trip in November, and I picked that place and oh men! the food is just amazing, all the people are nice, the place is so cute, and the price is fair enough Pd The tomato soup and the duck are awesome You have my recommendation from Mexico
Teatro was an amazing experience. The service was wonderful from everyone we spoke to; server, host, and sommelier. It s very rare these days that you spend so much money on a dinner and leave without a care in the world because the food was so exceptional. The agnolotti (sp?) and the carpaccio were our favourites, they were both so so good. I wish I could learn how to make that agnolotti so I could have it once a week!
My wife and I are here this evening, we ve been quite a few times previously, but were sadly disappointed with the quality of the food tonight. I don t think we ll return until we ve heard it s changed. It wasn t the quality of the staff, but the quality of the food they are using. Produce from a lower level grocery store that had little flavour on its on own that was severed bland and underwhelming for for the price.
Tonight s dining experience was nothing short of exceptional, largely due to the extraordinary service provided by our waiter, as he consistently checked in on us, ensuring that our every need was met and that our experience was enjoyable. The food itself delightful. The calamari set a high standard for the rest of the meal. For the main course, I opted for the seared ahi tuna, which was served on a bed of refried beans. Another highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the dessert, a chocolate hazelnut dome. Portion sizes were generous, providing great value for the quality of food served. I don t often leave a restaurant feeling so full. Will definitely be back!
NYE Wedding Everything was remarkable from the service to the food, to the execution on timing, takedown etc. We were extremely particular with some of our requests and the Teatro team was extremely accommodating. We have attended numerous weddings and have never seen this kind of execution on all fronts (food, beverage, service) and this sentiment was echoed by everyone who attended. I would like to make a special note on the level of professionalism that Suzanne with Teatros offered. She is remarkable as an event planner and having here be apart of your special day is a huge value add. We cant begin to say enough complimentary things about her and how capable she is. Rest assured that your event will be remarkable having her apart of the planning process.
Update: second time wasn t as good as the first time, not sure if we just didn t order the right stuff. We had this from the market pesce , it was a salmon dish, under cooked, it was pretty raw in the center. Brussels were not bad, too much sauce though, had better from other places. The Fritomisto dish had eggplants etc., it was just deep fried veggies, again wasn t bad but nothing special, don t think I will order it again. Was there a while ago, ordered a few dishes, they were really good, my favorite were the mushroom risotto and grilled octopus. I also liked how they served the free fresh bread. The environment was very nice, classy. Good service. Next time I wanna try their lobster lasagna.
Great food, great service. We celebrated our anniversary at Teatro and it was worth it. Everything was spectacular. Will be back again
Loved everything about it
The dinner was really impressed me
One of the best in Calgary.
Beautiful place. Calm, dignified, delicious. Very friendly staff, spotlessly clean and beautiful dishes, beautiful interior, good location, cozy.
Great Vibes and service
Good service and atmosphere. Expensive for lunch even by downtown Calgary standards.
This 5 course meal this evening was a delicious treat for the palate. I cannot even put words to how incredible this meal was tonight. Our server was great; very personable and even when other servers came with our food, the others were friendly and asked our table about our day. It was a really delightful evening and I was pleasantly surprised with how we were treated as people and not only dining guests. I shouldnt be surprised by this as the ambiance was prestigious yet relaxed and calm. Our team was traveling from Vancouver and this meal was so amazing that I told our team that if someone were to propose to me here, Id say yes as the atmosphere and food is just that exceptional anyways, enough rambling. But I will definitely be back as this was a great experience and so memorable!!
We went there for our anniversary and it was the perfect choice. The food was great, delicious, and the design was amazing. The service was even better. The waiter took into account all our dietary restrictions and provided the best service we could ask for. Also, they gave us a happy anniversary card which was very nice.
Service was so good! Best Ive had. Ask for Ethan. Meal, cocktails and dessert were delicious.
Beautiful restaurant, authentic European vibe, and delicious food.
Went for a pre-fixed 3 course lunch last week. The best experience by far in the last 3 years in Calgary. Service, food, ambiance- all wonderful! It is so great to have a place like Teatro s in Calgary - they have maintained their high standard through out ups and downs of Calgary economy. What a team! What a place! Teatro s any time!
Tanner was so helpful and knowledgeable! Had such a good experience here and he made it a 10/10 experience
Food is amazing, especially the Teatro lasagna is so lobster-y! Service is good too. Great first impressive dining experience in Calgary!! thank you!
Beautiful restaurant and excellent service. We ordered a bunch of stuff and enjoyed some cocktails. My only complaint is nothing was seasoned. The steak, the veggies, the potato. Even the caeser salad was meh.
Came here with a group of 8 people for a birthday dinner. Excellent service, and the food was exceptional. I had the scallops appetizer (fantastic!) followed by the tenderloin special, cooked perfectly medium rare as requested. The server and the sommelier were both lovely - very attentive and respectful, and fun! Its unfortunately a tad expensive for me to eat here regularly, but I will DEFINITELY return when I can! No negatives whatsoever! Dietary restrictions: One of my friends has a nut allergy, no issues at all!! Kid-friendliness: I mean you could technically bring your kids here, but why? Maybe if theyre old enough to appreciate a fine dining experience
Was very excited to try this place out, as have heard great reviews from friends and family. Unfortunately their tales are what I should have left it with, as my experience was a forgettable one. Room is beautiful, big open prep kitchen and very friendly host and first introduction to server - nice white linens and very nice atmosphere. 4 of 10 items on our tasting menu were sent back to the kitchen, with little or no care from the service staff hauling away our plates. Our first server was wonderul, but it seemed that every plate after the amuze bouche was someone different, and not once did anyone ask how our meal was. Limited attention to detail, like serving a steak room temp to cold like we received it afyer waiting 25 minutes between our last course. Dessert pastry was raw, and was sent back as well. Steaks were replaced, but were tough and oversauced. Both of us left 60% of it on the plate. Not something you expect from a $135 per person tasting menu. Sommelier was excellent, wine was delicious and worth the extra cost, manager compensated us for one of the wine pairings ($75) and she was very pleasant and responded well to the critiques / issues we had. Overall not a great experience, would try it again in a couple years after the sour taste is out of my mouth.
Wonderful food, atmosphere, and staff. Jamie and the entire crew did an amazing job! The ribeye and tuna were perfectly cooked and beautiful. We finished the night with tiramisu, and couldn t be happier. Amazing fine dining!
I was there for dinner. Ordered the lobster lasagna. I don t if this was normal but the sauce around the lasagna was ice cold. The lasagna was hot. I wasn t sure if this was normal but it was very off putting when I was eating. It was a combination of hot lasagna with a pool of cold bisque around. At this price point I am probably not coming back again.
Had the chefs tasting menu with wine paring. Top notch.
This restaurant is fabulous. Every time we visit Calgary, we reserve a table at this beautiful restaurant. The wine is delicious and the food is exquisite. Service is exceptional!!! Special attention to Jen and Ethan who made our experience outstanding!
Lovely atmosphere
One of the best
Loved the red sauce pasta with eggplant. I wanted it really spicy and hence asked them to remove the cheese and be generous with the spice. To my surprise, it was perfect. Not the raw chilli taste. They cooked it with the pasta sauce so it was amazing. Never seen an Italian restaurant match my Spice level. Hats off to the chef.
We visited on Friday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff had left a sweet card on our table, which was thouhgtful. We were seated and served at a reasonably quick pace. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant, our cocktails were great and the food was incredible. The wine list is massive as well. We ordered the Ceasar salad and beef carpraccio as appetizers and the roast chicken and prime new york strip loin as our mains and they were very tender and tasty! Good sized portions for everything. The after dinner lattes were perfection as well. Highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic and quality meal. All in with 2 appys, 2 cocktails, 2 mains and 2 lattes it was around $260.
We had a very nice experience here. A little pricey but worth every penny for us. I had the duck and my wife had Tuna.
Service was good, although food took forever but I guess its ok in a restaurant of this level since everything is made from scratch etc. The bread they give you before your starters is dry and very plain, weird part is they don t even offer either butter or olive oil/balsamic to complement The place is cozy, lots of natural light and really cool things like the middle chandelier or the shiny big kitchen hood. I ordered a lasagna and honestly it wasn t spectacular at all, it was not a lasagna you would expect to be in an Italian restaurant, no tomato sauce between the layers of pasta, lack of flavour, tomato sauce was super dry and yes not even salty enough! very disappointing. Overall I don t think I will come back, place is overpriced and overrated.
My wife and I decided to come back to Teatro after having a great experience a few years prior. The cocktail menu was limited and weak, the bread was stale lacked taste, the olive oil was terrible, the burrata and honey roasted squash salad was great, my wife s roasted chicken was ok, the cappuccinos were good, the dessert was ok but the main problem I had was with the $69 dry age rib eye. It was over cooked and about 1/4-3/8 in thickness with no flavour what so ever. Super embarrassed for this restaurant that resides here in Calgary with one of the worst steaks I ve ever had in the city. We live in Alberta, this restaurant should be at a higher standard when it comes to Alberta AAA Beef. After reading the reviews now, I can see that things have obviously changed for the worst since we last visit a few years prior.
Can never go wrong with Teatros! Food, service and ambience is always excellent. Been there many times and have never had a bad experience.
One of the premier restaurants in the city. Fantastic quality and service.
Attended a wedding lunch in their opera room over the weekend. The space was a bit small and on the warm side but setup to accommodate everyone comfortably. The service was really good and we were always checked on and our glasses filled. The time between courses could have been better as there as a long delay between scallops and risotto. The food itself was fresh a and great ingredients. The roast beef was slightly under but we ended on a high featuring the fantastic tiramisu. Large groups are never easy, especially wedding parties. Good job overall.
Teatro doesnt have a wine list. The restaurant has a wine book! The experience of dining is a master production. Some dishes, such as Celeriac, seem distinct to this restaurant within Calgary. A fully enjoyable restaurant.
The food was delicious, portions were big for the price which is nice as some places have small portions. The service was lovely and personal. The restaurant was beautiful and clean.
Great food, ambience and a nice restaurant to dine
Food was average! For the outrageous price they charged the food should have been amazing. The special was halibut but it was drowned in tasteless butter and over salted and seemed like it was heated up in the microwave. The white wine was warm. The place was like an oven because they had no AC at all! Terrible experience once again and I ll never go back. The service was great but not worth the money. Two entrees, 1 appetizer, 3 glasses of wine between the two of us and our bill was over $200. What a waste of money!
We are over from Ireland visiting our family living here in Calgary. We went to Teatro for a family night out and from the moment we arrived to a fabulous welcome the rest of the night only got better. The food, the staff and particularly Malcolm who looked after our every need was attentive. I would highly recommend Teatro for an unforgettable experience.
This is a gorgeous restaurant! We went for my husbands birthday dinner and enjoyed everything. We didn t catch the servers named but it was top tier. She was great at explaining the menu and we took all her recommendations! Portion sizes were great. We will definitely be back. They also have a great non alcoholic cocktail list so I didn t feel left out!
Three of us went to Teatro for dinner on a Friday at the end of May to celebrate a graduation. Everything was great from start to finish. The seating was comfortable and it wasn t noisy so we could easily chat. The service was friendly and helpful. We chose the tasting menu and were very happy with all of the courses - the lamb was the standout. Overall, it was a fantastic way to celebrate a special day.
This is our go-to place for a nice meal before taking in a show at Arts Common. The food and service are always great, and its convenient to just walk across the street so theres no rush to get there on time.
Great service - very personable. I have been here on numerous occasions for business dinners, and have had multiple course meals. The tables are spaced apart from others and are spacious. They often have specials, and the menu changes.
Very good Italian resturant.
Food and service are good. Beef is awesome!!
Amazing food, amazing service
We dined on the patio and were disappointed in the lack of decor. It just wasnt a pleasurable experience. Unless upgrades are made to this area, we wont be back.
Food was great, service was great!!! Would love to visit again!!!
My friends suprised me for my birthday by taking me to Teatro. I have been meaning to go here for a while and sadly this place didnt live up to my expectations. Before i get into the food like to to say that the space is really beautiful and the serving staff were very nice. The food was expensive which I expected but the quality just wasnt there. The calamari was cold, greasy and was mainly breading. The chicken was such a tiny portion and barely seasoned while the potatoes on the same plate had far too much salt. The saffron rissotto was tasty though. When it came to the cocktails, it was hit or miss. The narnia was great but didnt really seem like it had any liquor in it. I had a drink that had this odd chemical aftertaste to it. At the end of the meal, my friend caught a glimpse of the chef finishing the dishes and his fingernails looked not very clean. I normally dont go out of my way to review restaurants but knowing how much my friends spent on a meal that left us hungry and feeling gross awftwards, I had no choice.
Teatro exceeded our expectations with their amazing food and impeccable service at our wedding! From the first bite to the last, every dish was a culinary delight. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that all of our guests were well taken care of, making the dining experience truly exceptional. Teatros attention to detail and commitment to excellence made our wedding reception unforgettable. Thank you for the delicious food and outstanding service! Luke & Tiffany
Everything we ate at Teatro was delicious and the service was great as well! The calamari and carpaccio were both lovely, and our main dishes were amazing as well. On top of that we were given a complementary tiramisu from one of the kind hostesses for my mother s birthday, so good! Overall, our experience at Teatro was one to remember! :)
Excellent food and service
Decent but over priced for what you get.
Decent place a bit pricey for the food.
It was extremely difficult to enjoy the food as the restaurant was insanely hot with no ventilation. It was incredibly uncomfortable just to say the least. To start, We ordered the calamari and beef carpaccio. Nothing special with the calamari. I am sure I could have gotten a plate of calamari that was just as underwhelming, for the fraction of the price at a chained restaurant. However the carpaccio was really tasty. The entrees - i ordered the gnocchi with oxtail. The gnocchi was not as soft as I had hoped, and the meat had a gamey taste. The duck breast was the night s special. It was chewy and had no seasoning. The potato croquette was salty, and very undercooked with an unpleasant mushy consistency in the inside, and the cauliflower was burnt to a crisp. We are visiting from out of town and was honestly really excited to try Teatro. The maitre d could have been friendlier, and our waitress was dismissive and had a cold attitude. We thought the food would be able to redeem the disappointing experience, but unfortunately the food was just as sad and underwhelming. Overall 2/5 i am happy to say we went and tried it, but certainly will not return.
The perfect choice for our 11th anniversary . The food, services and the decor of the dishes are amazing. The plenty of wine list is another bonus for the restaurant. Also, thanks for the post card and special tiramisu dessert making our anniversary night more memorable.
Great food, amazing service. Unfortunately, it was a scorching hot day and it was very hot inside without AC. Fans did not help very much and heat from the kitchen made it hotter. Beautiful setting however, decor and building is magnificent. Very elegant. Food was well prepared and tasted wonderful. We chose the tasting menu at $135ppers. Kids had their red sauce pasta.
A beautiful building greatly located in a bustling part of Calgary. The food was beautifully presented and very good, but it wasnt exceptional, like the type of food this restaurant beacons.
Great spot. Excellent service and phenomenal food. Would be 5 stars if they had AC. It was a hot day and our family was melting inside.
Dietary restrictions: Waiter made sure that any dietary restrictions were considered Food
Beautiful ambience! perfect for a romantic dinner and special occasions. The staff were friendly and exuded warmth which is paramount to a memorable dining experience. I will absolutely return, will definitely recommend to people I know.
Interesting experience. First, the food was excellent. My wife and I split a ribeye steak and ravioli that was done in brown lemon sage butter. The steak was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The ravioli was equally well done. We were ultimately served by five different people including the maitre d. Our initial server seemed rushed and took the wine menu away before we had ordered wine, then returned it and pointed out only wines by the glass. It turns out the restaurant has an excellent selection of half-bottles which we discovered when I asked for the sommelier. He helped us select a very nice Willamette Valley pinot noir. So though the service was a bit confused we ultimately had a great evening and look forward to coming back the next time we visit Calgary.
We had dinner here about a week ago, and our experience has been better in the past. Upon arriving, we were greeted quite rudely at the door, and although the restaurant was completely empty, we were offered the worst seat in the house. Throughout the meal, the service wasn t great, and the food quality was just okay.
One of the true gems in Calgary. The food is always delicious and the staff are both knowledgeable and kind. The laid back vibe and opulent setting means that you feel like family in a beautiful home.
Always a top knotch experience at one of Calgarys long-standing fine dining institutions.
Took my girlfriend here a handful of times, every visit was great. Service is always exceptional and food is always great. Servers are well trained and have knowledge in both food and drinks. Our first date was here 3 years ago and we would come back every year.
The vibe of this restaurant was exquisite. Beautiful layout and open kitchen. I highly recommend this restaurant. The wine list is outstanding. Food was phenomenal. Service was on point.
Located in a former bank, this restaurant brings exquisite flavor to meals. Great service with knowledgeable staff is just the icing on the cake at Teatro! We started off with the calamari then I had the lamb and my date had the salmon as the main. Everything was perfectly done! Would definitely recommend.
We especially liked visiting the cellar at the end of the evening, a great way to cap off a great meal and great night
Omg.i was lucky enough to try them at brewery and the beast in Victoria, and it was my absolute favorite. Hope to see you next year.
Teatro Ristorante in downtown Calgary is a hidden gem for couples seeking a perfect wedding venue. As a wedding photographer, I have had the pleasure of working in numerous venues, and Teatro consistently stands out as a top-notch choice. The decor is simply exquisite, providing a sophisticated and elegant backdrop for every shot. The attention to detail in the design lends itself beautifully to a range of styles and themes, ensuring that each wedding Ive captured here is uniquely special. The culinary experience at Teatro is nothing short of exceptional. The carefully curated menu offerings showcase a blend of flavors and presentation that always impresses both the couple and their guests. The staff at Teatro are a dream to work with. Their professionalism and attentiveness are evident from the moment you step through the door. They seamlessly coordinate with vendors, ensuring that every aspect of the event flows smoothly. This level of support is invaluable to a wedding photographer, allowing us to focus on capturing the magic of the day. Whether youre envisioning an intimate affair or a grand celebration, Teatros versatile spaces cater to a range of wedding sizes and styles. From the moment the first guest arrives to the final dance, every corner of this venue exudes an atmosphere of celebration and joy. I wholeheartedly recommend Teatro Ristorante to couples seeking a venue that combines impeccable decor, extraordinary cuisine, and a dedicated staff. The memories created here will be nothing short of extraordinary.
Edit #2 : Decided to try Teatro a third time and it was the last time Ill spend my money at this restaurant. Upon leaving I felt ripped off for a $200 bill. Seafood Lasagna, $70, huge waste of money. Dry, bland, barely any lobster meat and lazily cooked (broiled) in a salamander I suspect. Luca serves a lobster risotto for half the price and comes with a full tail and two juicy claws. Teatro is a beautiful restaraunt in the heart of downtown but after exceedingly bad visits I will not go back. Edit#1: Went to Teatro for the second time yesterday and was quite disappointed. Salmon was undercooked (almost inedible), breading on Calamari was falling off, ahi tuna and brussle sprouts were served with the same garnishes and purees which made them taste pretty much the same (and comes across as lazy). First visit was much better. The service at Teatro is very good though. Everyone is very nice and attentive.
Not impressed by the food. Visiting from Vancouver, thought wed try it out. It was just alright. For the price, I expected better.
A stellar experience! Teatro is an elegant restaurant with exceptional service and superb dishes. 4 stars is given due to some seating complications. Despite reserving our table in advance, we experienced a lengthy wait time. However, staff went above and beyond to ensure that we were comfortable while waiting. Some of our favourite dishes were the Eggplant and the Duck. My favourite cocktail was Narnias Temptation; it had a little garnish of Turkish delight!
Attentive staff, excellent food and impressive wine list. Highly recommend!
A great restaurant and good food.
Probably one of the best restaurants Calgary has to offer.
A wonderful restaurant in the heart of downtown Calgary. We had the beef dish which is for 2 people sharing, was outstanding. So tender and flavoursome and probably the best beef dish Ive had. Lovely friendly and attentive staff. We would come back here again.
Phenomenal service, food, and wine. The atmosphere is upscale, comfortable, and classy. Will definitely be dining here again in the future.
This was an amazing restaurant! My partner and I are not much for fine diners, but everything about our meal was fantastic. We started off with beef carpaccio, then ordered the salmon special and the steak. The flavors for every dish were spot on. From the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice evening out. Dietary restrictions: I have severe allergies to tree nuts and sesame seeds and they were very accommodating. Our waiter was phenomenal and knew the menu and drinks inside and out. I felt entirely comfortable!
excellent wine selection. busy.
Was here before dining taking pictures in the front. The servers were mean and laughing at me and my friends for taking pictures. Food was good but they should train their servers well
terrible place , go here if u wanna lose confidence in urself
I had the misfortune of dining at this establishment, where the staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values good service! Save your money and eat elsewhere.
Me and my family went here for my birthday to celebrate on September 10. The seared scallops were incredible however the main dishes were very disappointing. Two of us ordered the duck and it was over cooked and tough, the pan sauce tasted burnt, and it was bland and under seasoned. My partner got a cocktail and there was hardly any liquid in it except for ice and a flaming fig. It seemed like they forgot to finish making the drink. The server forgot what we ordered several times. Overall, a disappointing experience especially when considering the price.
Great place for a fancy night out! The service was beyond exception and the tiramisu out of this works.
Tonight we went to Teatro for our wedding anniversary. They welcomed us with an anniversary card signed by the staff. We then were seated, Chris our server strived for perfection and ensuring every aspect of our experience was flawless. Wine selection is not pretentious but just great quality wine. The food menu had so many delicious options and it made it difficult to choose. Our server Chris, was personable, attentive and professional. We appreciate the attention to detail and the focus on making sure our evening was one to remember. Love Teatro. So glad this restaurant, a gem in our city, has continued to offer us delicious food for 30 years.
The only drawback I have is that the food is a little salty, other than that it has a good flavor and is not excessively expensive.
Food was amazing! Staff were awesome. Seared scallops are divine
Sorry but this dining experience was very disappointing. The Ceasars salad was so citric that no other favors were discernable. The lobster risotto was very salty with no lobster favor present. The tiramisu was okay. Even the water was room temperature.
Went for a Christmas work party in the opera room recently and it was so much fun. The service was okay. And the food was pretty good. Not the best Ive ever had but quite nice. Also had dinner here on the patio last year and that was a great meal, not bad service.
Food was phenomenal, service was amazing. Our waiter was quite attentive!!
Im writing this review specifically about the Opera room and Im hoping to provide some constructive criticism here. Ive attended two events in the Opera room and three in the main dining area and in my opinion, the Teatro experience is not consistent across both spaces. We booked a Christmas party in the Opera room this year with a 4 course dinner and drink service. During booking, the members of staff were fantastic and very accommodating. They understood our budget and helped us make a suitable plan. Upon arrival, the space was beautiful. The issues began with the pre-dinner cocktails. We had arranged for people to be able to have any classic cocktail, mocktail, high-balls under $12, beer, or a glass of wine. There was no menu or sign detailing the 7 classic cocktails that were on the menu we were provided prior to booking, so people were left to guess what they wanted. There was also no sign for the mocktail options and the staff seemed somewhat uninterested in explaining the options. Bottles were tucked away under the counter and it was clear they were just trying to push people towards the easier to manage beer and wine service. There were no cocktail garnishes and no large ice cubes for the cocktails that I know are used routinely in the main room. Staff was great with timing on food service and worked with our contact to decide when it would be best to seat people. The first course of butternut squash soup was quite nice. The second course was the ahi tuna crudo. The menu said this would be served with olive, Calabrian chili, lemon, and arugula. It did not have the arugula and it had a dollop of chili mayo/aioli instead of actual Calabrian chili. I didnt hear anyone raving about this dish. We had a choice of beef short rib or roasted chicken for the main and I had the short rib which was delicious. The dessert was a chocolate mousse cake which was good but not something Ill be thinking back to or craving in the future. Overall, in comparison to the experience Ive had in the main room in the past, the Opera room doesnt hit that same mark, and in my opinion, it cheapens the Teatro name. I think with some small improvements, it could really be a great space.
