Authentic Mexican flavours and a friendly laid back atmosphere
Nice patio, food and service were okay. Prices were a bit high for the quality of food. First time I've ever had a bulldog/fishbowl served to me in a plastic container instead of glass, felt cheap and the constant flexing plastic made me think I was going to drop it off it would break.
Waited over an hour for 5 tacos (it seemed that take out/ delivery orders were being prioritized) all of which were honestly mediocre at best. One had a weird chunk of something in it that turned us off from the rest and we ended up ordering take out elsewhere after leaving. The server was very nice, but he may have been the only one and was understandably struggling to keep up. Tried to rectify the issue with the staff, but they said the manager was not there. I submitted a request on their website for a manager to call me, but have not heard anything in over two weeks, so I am unfortunately posting it here. I believe this place would do well under new management- beautiful patio and great atmosphere.
Dined here on a Monday evening around 6:00. Monday is also their all day happy hour. The place only had a few tables filled between the patio and the interior restaurant. I am hesitant to place blame on the staff working and more on the ownership/management. It took 15m+ to get two drinks and we weren't asked to place our order until 40m into sitting there. The other table inside was waiting a while and certainly weren't happy about it. Why I blame the management? The place was getting railed with take out orders and the kitchen crew was pumping out numerous bags of food. This is great and all for business... but I'm sitting in the place. You don't stop serving your dine-in guests. All in all: 6 tacos, a deep fried appetizer and 2 drinks. 1.5 hr dining experience, come on.. Anyway. Eventually our food came out and the food was pretty decent. Portions were very small, but we enjoyed the tacos. The chap serving us was nice enough and overwhelmed. I'm not sure I would go back, given the poor experience.
Ambience definitely 10/10 esp with the cute outdoor patio and fun Mexican music they play outside. Very festive vibe. Food was mid, tbh for the price. You might be paying for mostly the ambience. Meat was dry and the tortilla sagged in our hands so it was pretty hard to eat. Found the nachos expensive esp with the basic type of cheese they used which even stuck in the wrapper haha. But all good! Still enjoyed.
A very cozy place with great authentic mexican food and excellent service. Jamaican water is very refreshing and goes well with the soup! The nachos are very tasty.
Had a nice evening dinner. Started with some chips and guacamole. I had shrimp tacos, wife had beef tacos. Both were excellent. They have a patio that's actually very cool on a warmer winter day. It's a nice experience to sit where it's a little cooler and have the very powerful heater keeping you nice a toasty. Would absolutely recommend.
This place surprised me from the minute we walked in ....and not in a positive way. I was there with 3 other people and as soon as you walked in you get hit with a greasy dense smell. The inside is really crammed with a bathroom door that opens right into the seating area, which is really bizarre. I got enchiladas which was loaded with the beef which was nice but after the first bite there was barely any taste to it, the mashed beans were dry, and the rice was dry and wet at the same time, which was weird. One of us got quesadillas and asked for it to be extra crispy which came out to be extra soggy... 2 of us got fajitas and it was alright. The nachos, however, were very good and definitely worth the try. The server was a young guy who was very friendly and attentive, probably the only positive part of the experience.
Great Mexican food and AMAZING drinks. We met some friend on the patio (reservations were needed for a party of 8) it was awesome the staff were super friendly the drinks flowed easy. The food was very good and the waitress made excellent suggestions. I had the wet shrimp burritto and it was fantastic.
Tacos were outstanding, thank you
Excellent tacos and nachos, and amazing service :)
Drinks didnt have food but the margarita was amazing
Food was bad and service was slow
We love Chilitos on 17th so we were thrilled when we found the Taberna at our local farmers market. The dine in food is fabulous, but one of the best things about the Taberna location is the take home kits and ready meals to create your favourites at home!
Amazing tacos, great service
Ordered the haddock fish taco. First bite had a metal staple that I pulled out of my mouth. The waitress replaced it right away and apologized but nothing else happened. We were only compensated 2 dollars off the tacos for a STAPLE! I am in shock of the negligence for food safety. Food
The worst attempt at Mexican food I have ever experienced. Orders from 6 of us included tacos (dried up chicken with a sprig of green that might have been cilantro),enchiladas (mushy chicken with some tasteless sauce), burritos that were supposed to be pork and may have been. Went for wings after as no-one ate their dinner.
Wasnt horrible. Just the food was bland
Really unpleasant experience, we were getting absolutely swarmed by wasps. We moved from sitting outside to a table inside but it didn t help at all, there were 3-4 of them buzzing all around us trying to land in our drinks and food. The drinks and food were decent but way overpriced, we payed $46 for 2 beergaritas and a mango salsa with chips. Those were the happy hour prices. Would not recommend
Ive gone here close to 20 times, I love it! Everyone is so kind and I love the food. :)
Patio was fun on a Sunday afternoon. Food came very quickly. Looks like they have some good deals during the week.
Tacos are a bit pricey for their size but the drinks aren t bad especially the pina colada. Really glad I found somewhere nearby that makes good food.
Such a great experience with my first time at Chilitos their mango margarita was the best I have ever had, hands down. The food was amazing & the atmosphere was as well Paige, our server, was so lovely, patient, and wonderful at her job. I have worked customer service for quite a while now, and that level of attentiveness is a gift! Our hostesses were all so welcoming from the get go. I will be back for sure (:
When its hot outside, Chilitos patio is the place to be. Seating is casual- lots of picnic tables - and the food is great. Nachos for dinner the first time the temperature hits above 30 C is an annual summer tradition for us.
Good service and good food loved it!!!!
Nice sidewalk cafe and also inside dinning .
Taste of food was below average. Customer service was average.
To start, what restaurant doesnt have lemon juice or lemons to squeeze? When I arrived I asked for a suero that has lemon, ice, soda water and salt on the rim (something I explained to the waitress) and she brought me a glass with soda water and a lot of salt. Since It was impossible to drink bc it has to much salt, I decided to talk to the person who seemed to be the owner or manager with good attitude. I told her that it wasnt what I expected, that I wanted lemon juice. She didnt let me finish explaining and stopped me saying that they didnt have lemon and that The lemon juice they have is sweet, so no, they cant, and if its so salty its because of the salt in the rim. She left, okay, I was a little upset because what kind of person fights with the customers, afterward I ordered some barbacoa tacos which were so simple and tasteless, 0 salt and they passed a piece of lemon on the side (funny that they couldnt squeeze some for what I ordered) bad service and the food is not good.
We had a fantastic Mothers Day celebration at this restaurant. The happy hour menu offered delicious dishes at great prices. The quesadilla with barbacoa was filling and flavorful, and the carne asada tacos with cheese were a hit. The horchata drink was excellent too. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance was welcoming. Highly recommended for any occasion.
Soooo good
Food is so fricken delicious!! Highly recommended!!
We ordered fried haddock tacos , some grilled tacos and street tacos. Mushroom one was completely inedible. Stale mushroom grilled and concealed by cheese skirt . The crispy haddock was good but too tiny pieces and more crumb less fish. Probably readymade. Chicken and beef lacked any seasoning or spice. Margaritas were good and service was friendly.
Quesabirria was excellent. Must use the dipping sauce.
Loved the place. We got a table on the outside patio. Nice atmosphere, good food and fast service Vegetarian options: Try the mushroom tacos. Some other vegetarian options are also available.
Be careful in this place they charge doble and food that you didnt order
The service and food was amazing I loved it
I recently visited this restaurant and was impressed by their delicious drinks. Their drink was fantastic, and I loved that they offer a great selection of non-alcoholic beverages for those who dont drink alcohol. I personally like the watermelon slush sooo good!!!!!
Visited chilitos taberna recently and had a great experience! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was wonderful. Highly recommend trying it out!
Great food, Great Environment, Great Staff
The last weekend I went to Chilitos, I loved it. Sandifresa drink was amazing Food
Delicious food and friendly staff. Tacos were amazing! The mango salsa was refreshing. We will be back on our next visit to Calgary!
Drinks were so so so good! Exactly what we needed for one of the hottest days of the year. The tacos were bland and watery. Food overall was disappointing. Food
Best Chilaquiles weve had in Calgary! Never been disappointed with the food or service.
I have been coming here for almost 7 years but the quality has significantly decreased. They also underpour. We asked for our liquor on the side as we couldn t taste the tequila in our double margarita and the waitress brought over a shot glass that was only filled two thirds of the way. Their drinks are also way too sweet and when you send them back they send a manager over to tell you that that s just how it is and not everyone will like it. Worst customer service I ve had in a while and the quality just is no longer there. There are better places to grab tacos and margs that don t short paying customers on liquor. I ve also never heard of a taco place where you can t add cheese or a side of jalapeños. Asked the server for fresh jalapenos and she came back with mushy, warm, old pickled jalapeños instead.
The best tortilla soup!!
Food and drinks were great. Service was friendly and quick.
Food was tasty, portion sizes are a little small for the price
Great drinks and had a good special for Cinco and would try again since I didn t have any or their food
Their tres leches are a whole bread loaf. Don t get it.
First, the good : - drinks were made well - restaurant and bathrooms were clean - the outdoor patio area is a very pleasant place to sit down with some friends. Nice shade from the sun. The not good : - Food. Please don t order the Mexican Street Fries unless you like McCain tier frozen fries drenched in bad hot sauce, ketchup, cheez whiz, and mayo? I love dunking my fries into a yummy sauce, but I do not like my fries to be drenched, and frankly, all of the sauces added to the fries did not complement each other and did not taste good. We also ordered 3 street tacos, all 3 chicken, and after the first one had to put them down because they were near inedible. I ve never had chicken in a taco before that was wet, not juicy, but wet. The tacos are small, and we were also not offered an option for hardshell or softshell which was disappointing. - Customer service was unsatisfactory. Hot sauce and other condiments were not provided with the food, and instead had to be asked for separately, which is strange because most Mexican restaurants provide hot sauce and other condiments to your table the moment you order food. I ve been to Chilitos Taberna a few times in the past few years, and have always had a great time ordering drinks there, but ordering food from there for the first time was an eye opener. Unless you re coming here for some drinks, I would recommend anywhere else on 17th Ave for food.
They have the best quesadillas BUT gave me really bad diarrhea.
Excellent place to try the authentic Mexican flavor The food is delicious, the place is very nice, I loved the music playlist and the service is excellent. Guaranteed quality
Ist not even close of Mexican taste
Very good mixed cervezas and quick tacos.
It was our first time there and we loved it! The food was great! The service was patient and attentive. And it wasnt very busy or loud. Definitely will be back!
Got a few plates to share with friends. Fries were a pass but the nachos and cauliflower were good. I enjoyed the horchata for a non-alcoholic beverage. Server was attentive and returned to our table often.
This is one of my weekly regular spots, the food and drinks are delicious, staff is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere makes you want to book a trip to mexico as soon as humanly possible. Dietary restrictions: Great options for gluten free
I used to come here all the time and love it but unfortunately as of recently I wouldn t go back. The service was not great and the food was overpriced and only okay. We also have a special needs daughter with a service dog and we spoke to 3 different people who wouldn t allow us in. We spoke to a 4th and they finally caved but not because they understood the rights of a service dog. We won t be going back.
Great food and nice patio thats dog friendly! We really enjoyed our mango salsa with chips, street tacos and piña coladas! Definitely will be returning!
Great spot on 17th Avenue for food and drinks. Family friendly atmosphere, and awesome happy hour
Fckn amazing food, the Quesobirria was amazing and the drinks are fantastic as well
Delicious food, excellent service by our server Sharmaine. Free mimosas for moms on Mothers day, will come back.
Really good tacos . Nice music , nice staff ! Vegetarian options: Some options Dietary restrictions: U can customize your order .
Parking: Right downtown on 17th Ave so depending on the time or day it can be hard to find parking Food
One of the best places to eat in Calgary hands down. The quality is always amazing and consistently delicious. We had drinks and food and stayed for well over an hour.
Food was awesome!
Really enjoyed this place. Nice selection of tequila and the menu was good. The queso fundido was a bit disappointing but its only because I compare it to the ones we order in Mexico. So I feel like Im snobby about it lol. We were there on a hockey night so it was busy and our reservation was given away but we were still able to be seated upon arrival. I would recommend this place. This was a starting point for our little taco tour down 17th and it really did kick off the night in a great way.
Worst mexican food i ever eaten And expensive. Food
The tacos were awful I m sorry there was nothing authentic about them at all the nachos were very delicious though! Make better tacos!
Awesome food and staff! The perfect after work spot for drinks and dinner. We got the pico de gallo, honey garlic chicken wings, and an assortment of street tacos. Everything was super fresh and delicious! Just a bit loud atmosphere wise, but that adds to the charm
Great tasting Mexican food, the tacos are deceivingly filling, they really load them with meat/filling, fantastic tasty drinks and awesome friendly service! The location is a bit small, it feels a bit crammed. But overall a good experience on a nice vibrant street
Never a good experience at Chilitos. Every time Ive gone, Ive left disappointed, hungry, and overcharged. PS. For additional reference, see the photo of the $21 fishbowl margarita they served me. I received a half empty stemless plastic glass.. that does not classify as a fishbowl.
Great food. It wasnt terribly busy, but we had to go to the front to request our bill after waiting for quite a long time to see the waitress. When we got to the front two waitresses were chatting at the front...
Great atmosphere & authentic, delicious food!
I was really exited to come but im really disappointed, it felt like a disrespect to my country coming here lol (im mexican ) they charge you extra for 2 tbl spoons of water salsa , tacos are very bad , super overpriced.
Good tacos. Beef is so tender...
Great food and an amazing mexican design and touch to the building. Food is top notch and the staff are very kind.
The last time I went I felt very disappointed, I ordered a mojito drink, it really didnt taste like anything, it was really bad. We kindly told the waitress that she was not delicious and that if they could improve it to be able to enjoy it and she had an unfriendly attitude, she even told us that they could not be fixed because the drinks have only 1 oz, we explained that we did not want more alcohol, we wanted flavor. Finally he took it and delivered it the same way, just a little stronger but to never come back, he debated us about the taste and that way of dealing with the situation was not comfortable for us. We ended up asking for the bill and went to the porch to continue eating and drinking.
Exelente place and food
I had such a lovely time at this restaurant! Their food was delicious and the service was excellent. The restaurant is so beautiful inside and out. I hope to go again when Im back in Calgary.
Small intimate dining atmosphere. The patio dining area in the front of the restaurant looks like it would be a popular place during the season . The menu is limited on options. The food was basic.
Delicious, flavourful, fresh Mexican food with great service! Sylvia is so friendly and it s a very welcoming place to come in and enjoy a meal at. Love the quesadillas, they re delicious!
All for have a great day
Great food especially during happy hour. Yummy and inexpensive
Demolished the bean dip appetiser as you can see in the photos. The tacos are incredible! Also had the Titos Texas Tea drink and it was delicious! Mondays are happy hour all day long! Highly recommend! Authentic Mexican food!
A good place to have breakfast with the family, very quiet. Without a doubt a good option would come again
Went for happy hour and the tacos were fantastic and service was lovely
Best Margaritas in town!!!
My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic meal here last night. I had 2 of the tacos; the pork taco and the chicken taco. The chicken had a bit more zing in it. My hubby had the Barbacoa (shredded beef) Enchilada it was delicious! We ordered the fried ice cream to share and it was an absolute delight served with two waffle sticks.
My husband and I went to Chillitos tonight for dinner, food was great and the service was very good as well. When we left I left behind my wallet, my husband ran back to get it and lovely lady from the staff had it! Thank you for being so helpful and honest.
Delicious authentic food and tasty drinks!
Best sangria in town!
We were a little disappointed with the service and the drinks, the truth is that I ordered a mojito and it didnt taste like anything... Anyway, the music and the atmosphere were good, and the food was also good.
Tacos were delicious and the atmosphere was lively. Good service. The music was quite loud for an early evening patio.
Mmm bean dip!! Also margaritas!!
I have never ever in my life eaten anything worse then here the food smell horrible it taste horrible, even the plates are rusty it s unbelievable I warn y all to not experience the food there
This is the worse restaurant that you guys could go to. I had a very bad experience going there. I went there and paid 170$ with my family and I didn t eat anything, and we left the food as it is. The cutlery was so bad and the food was worse. I couldn t eat anything there. The food smelled really bad, it was cold and the chicken wings was raw and they had blood on them.
Nacho is alright.
I had the Pollos and Waffles for brunch and it was the best first meal of the day! Been doing the intermittent fasting for a while. My wifes quesadillas were pretty good as well but next time well have to get guacamole on the side to make it a perfection. We were a little bit rushed and we really appreciated the fast and friendly service. It was a beautiful sunny Calgary afternoon so that made the outing such a blessing with my lovely Grace
What a beautiful little spot! We were originally going to a different place, then came across this little gem. Outside patio...lovely! I had the Burrito Bowl and Honestly, the BEST...BEST Mexican food I have ever had. I would drive 3 hours just to have dinner here!
I went with my partner to try out this restaurant. We ordered horchatas, burritos, and churros. The horchata tasted extremely watered down with no flavor. The burrito was average, and the churros didnt have flavor either. The service was nice though. However, honestly was disappointed.
Great drinks, food , great service, titally recommended
Reserved a table for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. The food wasn t so great, bland and very dry. Ultimately it was the waitress we had that really made the experience bad, it was difficult to get our food and get the bill to pay as she was either in her phone or chatting with other wait staff.
Great Selection of food . The taste is really very delicious
I enjoy Mexican cuisine and accept that cilantro is a staple of it. Im allergic to it and know I cant have some foods. Cilantro is the may spice they use here. Its in almost all the food including the rice. I would recommend a different chain of Mexican restaurants that use a wider variety of spices. If I wanted to eat shredded beef covered in cheese and sour cream I would have made white people tacos at home. The very least they could do is state how much of the food is prepared and unable to be made without cilantro on their menu or website. Will not be coming back.
I enjoy the food at Los Chilitos... I do however find their drinks very watered down ...which sucks when you pay 18$ for a Pina colada .
Chilitos restaurant offers amazing food and cocktails, with a hdelightful pet-friendly patio for summer enjoyment. Unfortunately, the overall experience was marred by the extremely rude and unhelpful service of one waitress. Her dismissive attitude and lack of willingness to assist or explain the menu left a sour note throughout the meal. While the food and ambiance were enjoyable, the poor service significantly detracted from the overall dining experience.
Best Mexican food in town and a nice patio!
Nice Mexican restaurant in Calgary, very tasty!
Delicious and fast
Everything about Chilitos is top notch! The most authentic Mexican food you can find in Calgary. The service is incredible and everyone who works there is so kind and welcoming. Service is fast and everything is well priced! Can t recommend enough!
An excellent stop for great Mexican food. Outstanding service, neither too quick nor too slow and the camerara did not hover near the table but we never had to look for her. The food was tasty and quite generous for the price. All in all....a Bobs score of.....8.85/10
Amazing Mexican food! Huge drink selection and awesome patio!
Great deals, really good service!
This restaurant doesnt serve people with allergies. When I inquired about allergen information I was told, everything is contaminated and when I asked for more information I was simply informed they dont serve food with allergen information.
Super rushed experience, felt like our group was a burden for being there. The food was quite good but needed more intense flavor.
Update: we keep going back as this used to be a favourite, and things do change. Nachos hot and generous, but meat add on is sparse. Margueritas served incorrectly, they add soda. Server said it is to cut sweetness as they use bar lime mix and not real lime juice- we asked for fresh lime or unsweetened lime juice and server said they had no limes or lime juice- not sure how you make Mexican food without any lime!! Margs single ounce and over $12 on happy hpur. There are better options for the price (which have gone up again), very disappointed and wont be back. Previous reviews:The food used to be more generous, but the portion sizes have really been scaled back, the nachos were barely warm last couple visits and the meat was easily missed, and sadly you now have to ask for things like limes in your marg and for you tacos delicious though. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
Great burritos, nice staff, and amazing fajitas.
Waitresses and bussers were amazing. Food was super good and they had a nice selection of booze. Was super happy.
Very cute Mexican restaurant. Food was good. Would definitely recommend the Fiesta Basket and the cauliflower taco for starters. The service was excellent. The server was very attentive and very accomodating. Prices were a bit on the higher end.
Food is not actively bad but very bland, and I say it as person accustomed to British cuisine. Service is fine but it cant compensate.
We hosted a wedding inside the restaurant and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves! They had excellent food and drinks! They were very friendly, and even helped me to set up for the ceremony and reception.
Family held wedding here and it was lovely, staff is amazing.
Excellent Mexican restaurant! Highly recommend!
Food is alright, a bit dry. Found hair in drink. Plastic cheap looking fishbowl. Not that satisfied. Food : 2/5 |
Really beautiful patio, great location. A nice spot to get a drink. The service was amazing. The food wasn t my fav. We found it to be not as flavourful as we expected. The tacos and corn ribs were quite bland. The jalapeño poppers were the highlight of our meal. The wings were ok too. I d go back for a drink on the patio, but would likely grab a bite somewhere else.
Really windy evening during Stampede but staff were friendly and efficient. They could add some local to their beer selection .
Great food and the staff are attentive. Weve been dining with them many times over the years
Loved this place the food was amazing will be going back
Poorly done gringo Mexican food here. You would think by looking at this place it would be super authentic, but no such luck. Service was very average. How do you serve fish tacos without lime?!?!?! No hot sauces for the tacos either.
Decent margaritas, so so food. Went for the happy hour which appears to be $2 off some limited items.
10/10 for the Pina Coladas, but 6/10 for their tacos. Great place to enjoy drinks on a beautiful patio. Easily recommend.
Fantastic food
Amazing authentic Mexican food. Best I had so far!
Great little spot and patio! We were there visiting and they didnt rush us at all. Their tacos , margaritas and pico de gallo are great, overall would recommend and will be back!
Well, like everything in Canada about Mexican-style food, there was nothing to do with the flavors except the steak tacos, those were very close to it. Royal taste
Really good Mexican food. Prices aren t terrible. Nice patio seating. I recommend one of the smothered burritos!
The music is amazing as well, amazing food.
Great Service, I ll be back to try al the different tacos That michelada was awesome!!!
Great food, great service. Always my first choice.
Excellent customer service and delicious food, I will return for other quesabirrias
we always have a good time here, food and drinks are great and service is always amazing!
I ve been here a couple times and they never miss.
Food was good! Some nachos had burnt ends though but it wasnt the end of the world. Service was very good and attentive. The menu selection is nice and varied, just wished they had birria tacos. Overall, Id recommend Chilitos
Delicious food, friendly staff, great restaurant!
Crazy and inexplicably bad service. Staff made no attempt to redress the problem. 0/10, would not eat.
Amazing service. Food was great, wish the tacos had more toppings. Recommend the nachos and corn ribs. Reasonably priced drinks, great blended margaritas and lots of flavors to pick from, lots of other cocktails too. Patio was lovely. Will be back for the fishbowl special!
I enjoyed sitting out under the sun until a bee decided to join me . Moved inside and had my slow-cooked pork taco and gaucamole, Good food and a place to chill out.
Beautifully decorated intimate dining... amazing food and wonderful staff. Skip Anjeho if you are looking for delicious Mexican food and go here instead.
Friendly service, delicious food and thirst quenching beverage! Great atmosphere and is my go-to when family and friends are in town. The Tinga and the mango margarita fishbowl are my favourite combo.
.ouch everything is delicious
When the wife and I went this past Sunday, the chilaquilas with green sauce and beef were so delicious. Couple that with some brunch Pina coladas, and were talking a meal of champions right there!!
Vegetarian options: Have a few veggie based tacos on the menu Food
The tacos is way too plain The sauce is nice but the wrapping is super tasteless, and the beef is super dry They can do co brand with SuperDry then
Is a nice and pretty close to Mexican food and restaurant style... I liked it, but i would say that I have to teach them how a real michelada needs to be prepare ... The rest, everything was tasty!!! Food : 5/5
Excellent evening. Food and drinks were delicious.
Feels like being back in Mexico. The food is amazing and great pricing.
Cute little place. Fabulous service, lovely taco Tuesday.
The food here was all right. It wasnt superb, and many menu items were not available.
My first Wet burrito ? It was super tasty, big portion. Service was great. Drinks were lovely. Shame we were just passing in the town. Thank you so much.
