First of all I m not commenting to complain or anything. It s more to share this experience that is quite funny. My husband and brother in law just went there. They had pulled pork and carne assada and said it was amazing. I wasn t feeling well, so they got me some chicken tacos with rice on the side. We ve been here before and we know the food is amazing. Except for this time. Someone was able to both burn and undercook the rice. Kinda crunchy, kinda burnt. It feels like a glitch in the matrix. Makes no sense . I burnt plenty of rice with my adhd, but this is a whole new level . The tacos were amazing though, I forgive them!

It was a little chilly in the covered porch but great and nice to have a toasted margarita on a cold day

Very Delicious!

Really they have a BIG sign saying PET FRIENDLY but it is not , only for their convenience and the guy who was answering was very unprofessional and rude to my sister in law . Very disappointed

We came during a busy time before a hockey game so it did take a little longer for the wait staff to take our order. However, once they started waiting on us, service was great!!

I ordered catering for a business lunch. The ordering process was very smooth and helpful, and the food was delicious. Delivery arrived barely in time, and left it at reception without communicating who the delivery was for. There were multiple containers of the same item which could be combined into fewer containers for a less tedious setup. The order also didn t include plates. Dietary restrictions: Love that the regular order of tacos is gluten free, dairy free, egg free. It makes ordering for a complex group so easy.

Food, service and atmosphere was good.. only thing I didnt like I ordered guacamole on the side which came in very small bowl which I guess they use for salsa or sauce. They charged $15 for that. When I asked the server is that the right price she said yes.. I said thats the most expensive guacamole i have ever eaten..

I was hesitant to write this review but I think it s important the managers and staff get this feedback. In short, we are long term customers who had an experience that was discriminatory at minimum and in its least charitable interpretation, frankly racist. The evening of October 25th (yesterday) my friends and I came in and were met by a hostile and judgmental front of staff who insinuated we could not be seated at all given the number of people in our group. We had to ask if we could seated separately to be offered seating in the restaurant; don t you all be jumping around was the response. It was around Halloween and 2 of our party were wearing costumes but otherwise our group was dressed normally and none in our party were loud or inappropriate. The waitress took orders for all in our group but singled out one of our friends and said her drink would be delivered after dinner because it was up to her discretion . When our group asked for more information it emerged it s because of her eyes . In the end, after serving food they refused to bring the aforementioned drink. Despite talking to the manager (a different friend did this), no further information about why beverages were being selectively withheld was offered. My friend was embarrassed and quiet throughout these interactions. For full context my friend was the sole person of Asian descent in our party of 9. We hope the staff and managers will reflect about the future discretion they use with their customers given that your use of same lost you quite a few. Perhaps changes to training may help reduce future incidences like this.

Have been coming here plenty (ordered uber eats yesterday) and today I am fuming as the new lady seated us (party of 2) at the edge of the long table with another group and I watch her seat other couples with no reservations, be seated by themselves ( bench seats and tables for 4 when theres only 2 of them). Already spilled food all over me because i have nowhere to put my coat and purse but my lap. I had to speak out my frustration just for them to make the exception to an available table thats not cramped. Train your people to treat people right, not just because theyre of color and are not white.

Great place to go out for dinner! My partner & I really enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Our server Kevin was super helpful as it was our first time and recommended some amazing appetizers and cocktails. I would highly recommend the (Tuna Contramar).

The servers were young not well trained. Bartender was not a bartender couldn t make a proper margerita. If you hire green young people train them. For a restaurant that taunts themselves as one of the best. It s not that at all. Never written a review in Calgary. Wanted to give this feedback hire keeners with good energy and train them.

The food was good. The bench seats on the patio were not all that comfortable. Once the tables filled up it was tight moving around on the restaurant floor, so any kind of mobility aid may cause a problem. Dietary restrictions: The torillias were corn, so the quesedillas were gluten friendly (enough for me anyway). The menu didnt mention gluten free so Im assuming it is not a guarantee. Parking: It is street parking so there was no designated accessible parking in front. Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance had a short ramp to the door. There was a small lip getting through the front door. Most of the tables are high, but there are some standard height ones so it could be possible to pull a wheelchair up to one. As mentioned, once the tables filled up it was tight moving around on the restaurant floor and so getting a wheelchair from the front to the back where the washrooms are may not be possible unless it is quiet. The washrooms were for all genders and I didnt see any with an accessibility designation. (There were only two that I saw). I dont think there was an automatic door so getting in may be an issue if you struggle with manual doors, but it was wide. Inside it was large and had a proper bar. There was only 1 standard height sink and the soap, towels and air dryer were high on the wall.

It was an amazing experience! The food was simply delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic. I recommend 100%. We are from Mexico and we were looking a place in Calgary like this. Appreciated!

I firstly want to say how much I love the food here. We always go for the Barbacoa de Cordero. We did prefer when it used to be neck of lamb instead of the recent shoulder as it was even tastier & more tender but it s still really good. The atmosphere is good but it s just too dark. I literally had to use the torch on my phone to read the menu & then left it propped up to see the food that I was eating. Definitely not a romantic light just plain dark. Really need to have the option of a candle if the rest of the place is so dark. I surely can t be the only person who would like to be able to see what I m eating?

Had a great time! Good location. The lighting inside could have been slightly better. I like the carne asada, birria and pork belly tacos.

Overall good. Some of the meat were a bit dry. Service can be slow during peak times. Fun atmosphere. Taco Tuesdays are great!

It is always delicious, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Calgary, I always come for the chilaquiles with birria and the esquites (in summer), and the carne asada taco, sooo good.

Fantastic experience dining here - the food was insane, particularly recommend trying the pork belly and pineapple tacos, they were incredible! Our server was lovely and really kind to accommodate my desire to rid all our dishes of cilantro, much appreciated! Lovely experience, sad to have just been visiting the city and not to be able to be a regular customer!

All I can say is AMAZING!!! We visited Saturday night (we were basically the last customers) and I m very impressed! I don t normally make reviews but figured I d make a review for my new favourite taco spot. The vibe was great, the happy hour was awesome and the prices weren t too bad at all. The carnitas, birria tacos and the churro donut stole my heart for sure. Our server was very fast and attentive and friendly and even gave us the last couple donuts for free. I am excited to come back and try the rest of the menu!! If I could give 10 stars I would. :)

A bit pricey, but the food is amazing and seems authentic- down to the sauces, corn tortillas and house made (edit: spelling) salsa. The venue is bright, clean and busy. Looked like a huge selection of tequila and mezcal as well.

She never checked on our table/food/drinks/etc. She only showed up like 15min after we finished all our foods and drinks... idk what her job was.. bussers did more work.. sitting us down, serving our drinks and food- what did our server do? just take the order and payments?

Service was really bad

Went there this evening, my first time! I was was soooo looking forward to it. We waited 40 minutes for a table, that was fine. We ordered so many appys when we were seated. When the server finally came to check on us, he wouldn t serve us alcohol. I m not sure why this decision was made, it s a Friday, 3 of us work the next day, why he thought we weren t in a state to drink, was completely JUDGMENTAL!!! We were having a great time until we couldn t order a bevy. You shouldn t judge your customers the way you do. You re missing out on business. If the owner/ manager responds. Please don t bother. We hadn t had a single drink served to us at your establishment and had one across the street waiting for our table to be ready. There was no reason for your staff to not serve us, other than emotions and not professionalism. We can not agree on that, therefore, you do not get our business. Good luck to you.

Went there on Friday night. Because we were a party of five, we had to wait quite a while for a table, which was fine. When we made it to our table, we immediately ordered appies for the group. The food arrived quickly, however, our server was no where to be found. One of our group had to get another staff member to find him before he showed up. When he did, he was very persistent to get our food orders in and essentially ignored our requests for drinks. He then had another server come to our table to tell us that he didnt feel comfortable serving drinks to my friend. This friend has a loud voice and boisterous personality. We were NOT intoxicated whatsoever, and we had just been waiting in their lobby for the past hour. We asked for our bill and left right after. The whole situation was handled so poorly. I think it should go without saying, but I will not be back.

The tacos are really good here! My favourites were the pork belly taco, and fish taco. The best dish by far though was the ESQUITES with nacho chips (we ate half of it before I could take a pic). I also had the pineapple margarita with Mezcal and Tequila, I preferred the tequila version.

Stopped for a quick lunch and damn!!!! So good! Ill be back next time Im traveling through for sure.

My new favourite Restaurant! The service is quick and friendly. Definitely come before the 6pm dinner rush if you don t have reservations! THE FOOD, Omg! We had the esquites, birra tacos and churros Donnas and the strawberry cream cheese dessert. The waitress recommended pairing the desserts together, best dessert I ve ever had! Donut is soft, just the right amount of glaze and the cream cheese is fluffy and light. I also loved the jugo verde.

Banger Chilaquiles with birria ontop.

This place has awesome taco with fair price. This is my first time visit this restaurant and I love it . For the food, I would like to recommend the pork belly taco and also any thing start with with beef taco. They don t have any parking lots, so you have to park nearby the restaurant and walk to it. I would recommend to come before 4 pm because after 5 pm they have a long line and you will not like the wait time. Overall, 9/10

This was our 1st time, and I found the prices very high for drinks and food for what you got. Service was just ok, as was the actual food quality. I guess this is new calgary-mexican, I have never seen a tortilla shell that small for a taco and an authentic place would ask if you wanted corn or flour tortillas, and provide two tortillas with a taco. The price and size of the margarita were ridiculous and overpriced. Salsa and guacamole were tasty but, again way overpriced.

Coming from California I am generally pretty spoiled with fantastic tacos, so this was a great, unexpected find for an authentic meal in the prairies of Canada. Definitely recommended.

Overpriced. Tiny little tacos with barely any filling. Oddly uncomfortable chairs. Like, when I say uncomfortable, they push you forward at an odd angle. The salsa is utterly flavourless and not a hint of spice present.

They were incredible busy, I think because it was taco Tuesday? I was about to get takeout but they found me a spot at the bar which felt a bit tight. The lighting was a bit too dim as I could not see the menu properly. I know theyre trying to create ambience but it just made it hard for me to see. I ordered the vegan tacos, they were decent however were a bit soggy. Their side salsa set tasted good. My favourite part was actually the drink (Agua Fresca) I ordered. I thought it would taste random but it tasted great! All the staff were nice too!

I had an amazing experience at Native Tongues on Victoria Street in Calgary! Lexi, our bartender who also took on the role of our server, was absolutely fantastic. Despite being the busiest person in the place, she managed to serve us drinks and take our food orders with remarkable efficiency and a great attitude. Her multitasking skills and friendly demeanor truly enhanced our evening. Highly recommend this place, and especially Lexis incredible service!

Nothing excited about it. As a hispanic person I can tell you, that was not mexican food,. Very simple menu, mix up of items torta was not even close to be one,,abd pricey as hell!! I spend 105 for my GF and I,, anyways not bad neither good, this is my opinion.

One of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. The food is amazing, they have plenty of gluten free options, and it s very reasonably priced. Their cocktails are also great. Dietary restrictions: Plenty of gluten free options and as a celiac, I know they take the necessary precautions to limit any cross contamination; I ve never reacted to eating anything hear.

My partner and I have visited this location of Native Tongues twice now and plan on returning ASAP. The first time was early spring and we sat on the enclosed patio (which is now open air for the warmer weather). I was blown away with the quality of the tacos and the margaritas were excellent as well. This time we attended during their Late Night menu offering (after 10pm). I was a little worried that the discounted price of the tacos would mean that the ingredients were less fresh or that the portions would be smaller, but boy was I wrong. If anything, it seemed as though they were loading the tacos more than the last time, maybe in an effort to reduce food waste at the end of the night. Everything was spectacularly delicious. To the point I ate a good bit of my meal with my eyes closed just so I could enjoy without my other senses interfering lol. Notably, the service is also excellent. On both occasions it was quite busy upon arrival but we were greeted and seen to within a minute of walking in. The staff is very knowledgeable about ingredients and we were asked about allergies/intolerances on both occasions. On this last visit we had our initial server replaced halfway through service (seemless handover, I must mention) and the new server made sure to confirm my allergy before putting through our second round of tacos. Cannot recommend enough if you are looking for quality tacos and great service. Atmosphere is fun and lively without being too loud, crowded or overwhelming. Our new favourite date-night spot for sure!

Disappointing. I ordered a torta through Uber eats, the item is advertised as crispy bolillo containing beans, cilantro, guacamole, sauce, onions and a choice of protein (I chose chicken). When my torta arrived, upon closer inspection I realized, to my surprise, there was NO guac, zero guac, nada. It is to be noted that this torta was supposed to contain pollo asado and the amount of chicken in the torta was laughable! the torta was predominantly just bread with beans and a tiny amount of chicken for $20. Definitely not what I was expecting, or was advertised, most definitely not worth the price. Quality control of the food before delivery is REALLY lacking. My fiance ordered a quesabirria. His thoughts: the flavour was okay but the portion size was upsetting, its just ONE regular size birria quesadilla (the size of a regular corn taco) for $16.95... As a Mexican food connoisseur, Im not a fan.

Excellent tacos, but if you dont like spicy food maybe you should be careful what you ask. For Mexican this is the most authentic food you can find in Canada by far. A little expensive in my opinion but its excellent Mexican food, you do not expect taco bell please otherwise you will be disappointed LOL.

Best Place to get a real mexican flavor. Im mexican and really enjoyed the flavor.

The place was packed and the atmosphere is lively. Service was friendly and quick. The chips and salsas were ok, tasted a bit like jar salsas. The tacos were good, our favorite was the birria, and the salsas with the tacos were much better. The jamaica water was good, but the horchata was not. Donuts were ok.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice, that being said the menu was very limited and hard to decipher for non Spanish speakers. The vegetarian options were also very limited and the prices were definitely pretty inflated. Maybe it was because of the dinner rush but the waiters would take plates off of the table without asking, it was really annoying because my family were still eating the salsa with the tacos. Id also like to say that the portions were definitely much too small for their price and value, the food was also lacking in flavour and definitely didnt feel as authentic as its advertisement. When it comes to the drinks the waiters were really pushy about the expensive drink and the margaritas were very lacking. The hibiscus aguafrescas were amazing though and the only menu item we whole heartedly enjoyed. Id also like to add that they didnt check any IDs while ordering the drinks and I am a baby faced 19 yr old and the majority of the table were blatantly underage. Overall we were really let down by the experience.

We had ordered birria, carnitas, and carne asada tacos and ultimately I d only go back for the carnitas tacos. They were juicy and flavourful whereas the birria were simply average. They did not come with consume and were honestly a little dry and oily. Also, if you are going to eat the carne asada tacos, be weary that there is a serrano pepper stuck in between the meat Dietary restrictions: Peanut friendly!

I placed an order at 4pm for pick up at 6pm. We sit down at 6:10 and the tacos are cold and soggy. Did you make them as soon as I ordered and left them sitting the whole time? Extremely disappointing for the whole family. What s the point of asking for a pick up time?

Came here for happy hour for the first time as I has heard amazing reviews for this place. Unfortunately the lack of customer service made our experience less than enjoyable. We were seated promptly on the patio which was nice, but our server was not very personable. He did not come back and check on us after we ordered our drinks and I waited a long time to be able to order a second beverage, at this point we decided we would not be ordering any food. There were only 4-5 other tables there and quite a few staff on and I tried to wave our server and other staff down but was unsuccessful. The drinks were pretty good, nothing special but unfortunately don t think we will return due to the lack of customer service.

I love Native Tongues and been going for years. Usually the food and service are great. My last visit, we had a server named Miranda who was awful. She had an awful attitude and very rude. While filling our water, she spilled it on the table and some got on one of my friends. Not only did she not acknowledge what she did, nor apologize, we had to interrupt her conversation with her server friend to request another napkin to clean it up. To this request, she rolled her eyes and begrudgingly got us another napkin. She never stopped by the table to check on us and never even smiled at us, but she always looked like she was having a good time talking to her server friends! The other staff were lovely as usual, as was the food. I just really hate that Miranda spoiled the experience that we usually have. Well be back because Native Tongues is always on rotation, but we will be requesting a different server if we sit in her section again.

Everyone in my neighbourhood talks about this place very highly, went there today to check it out before Icecream. Was greeted right away by a cute/pleasant/ friendly young man. Food was really good, and the spot is comfy and inspiring. Will def go back for happy hour

I m really disappointed by our delivery experience. I ve been to native tongues a few times and it s a well-renowned Calgary restaurant. We ordered two carnitas tacos which were pretty good. We also ordered two carne asada tacos which were so spicy we couldn t even eat them, even to my husband who is very good with spice (I have a condition which makes excessive spice unbearably painful). This taco was not labelled as spicy in any capacity on the delivery site. I would not have ordered it had I known. We also ordered a birria burrito which was mushy and flavourless. We couldn t eat the burrito either. I am incredibly disappointed considering the delivery order was $50 all in!

I went for brunch, and really really liked the breakfast lasagna. Not what it was called, but it was just excellent

We went there on a Tuesday night and it was packed but the flow moved quickly to get in. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the cocktail menu (which is massive). They have flights of mezcals and tequilas for the rookie or connoisseur. The tacos were phenomenal. We tried carnitas, birria, cochinita pibil, and mushroom. The salsa sampler had a great variety and was delicious. Great beers and churro doughnuts to finish up. I ll be back!

Andrea B was a great server, very attentive and knowledgeable! She had such good energy and was so lovely! The food and drinks were great. Would recommend.

Came for our anniversary dinner, a was definitely not disappointed! Absolutely delicious food, and great service. Loved the hibiscus margarita, so yummy!

The menu can be pretty expensive but its a treat to go for just the tacos. You and your date can fill up on those bad boys from a delicious selection of Tacos De Guisado to enjoy, including: Carnitas, Birria, Pollos, Frijoles, and more. Go for the tacos and if your wallet isnt as light as mine stay for authentic desserts and fine crafted cocktails.

Always a great late night spot

Amazing tacos and drinks. Prices were very affordable too. Chips were a bit cold for salsa taster, would ve liked warmer/fresher chips.

Ate here on a work trip for a late lunch during happy hour. Our waitress was excellent. We tried the guac (highly recommend) along with multiple tacos and the donuts. Everything was delicious. Food

Great food, friendly staff and fun atmosphere

My group got the chips & guac and salsa taster as starters, and a handful of the tacos each for mains. The two starters were very good, the chips tasted fresh and perfectly salted. The guac was legit the best Ive ever had, and the salsa tasters were all very tasty. The tacos were also excellent, the standout was the carnitas. Overall definitely check this place out.

Outside of Mexico this is so far the best authentic Mexican food I ve tried . We tried several dishes and all of them were excellent. Can t wait to go back to Calgary and visit again. Food

Authentic Mexican flavor with a more premium ambiance than a typical taqueria. Everything was better than expected in their presentation and flavor, from the appetizer to the dessert. Even the agua fresca was great. This place would rank high for me even if it was located in Mexico. It was so good that we ate there 2 out of our 4 nights in Calgary. Kid-friendliness: They were great in adjusting the ingredients for my picky kids

Delicious grilled tacos

They have the best taco in town, Suero, and Dona s! I have been their customer since 2019. They have friendly vibe and staff. I like has traditional elements, this restaurant always give me the homey feeling. If you want to try authentic Mexican food I highly recommend here.

Very good and authentic Mexican food joint

I love this restaurant, it s an absolute favourite! My son and I always split the Super Torta which was incredible up until they changed the bread as of last week. It used to be a really moist, soft, light, bread that didn t fill you up on carbs and the bread they re using now is like a huge bun. It s really disproportional to the rest of the Torta filling and the flavour is all wrong. My son is a pretty picky eater so finding a Mexican dish at a real restaurant was a challenge - if things don t change back - we ll have to find a new family spot and we don t want to ( the donuts here alone are almost worth the trip). Please, please, please, switch back to your old bread! It was so much better!
