Spicy Amigos in Calgary

I went here to give it a while while on a long bus layover. I got some mushroom street tacos that made me so glad I made this place my choice for lunch. Then I got the Mexican fries to go for a snack. I was full and couldnt stop eating them! Very pleasant service as well. Mucho gracias!!!

Great food

I have been going to Spicy Amigos since they opened on a regular basis. Food is always very good but things have changed. It used to be a bar type where you choose your toppings and now they dont do that. They up charge on drizzle toppings where it all used to be included. It looks like ownership might has changed. Prices have gone up substantially and less toppings. Still enjoy the food but go there less because of it.

Absolutely loved it and will be back! This is some of the best Mexican food in Calgary, by far. Amongst 4 of us we tried a variety of things: Empanadas (the texture on these was divine! Crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside), Flautas (so good! Top 3 for sure. So much more flavorful than most flautas we ve had), Queso Fundido (simple yet delicious), and the street tacos which were made with the best corn tortillas I ve ever had. It sounds silly maybe but I was so impressed by how fresh they tasted. I ve been to too many Mexican restaurants serving stale tortillas. We tried a few different proteins on the tacos but my favorite by far was the Arrachera and the Chicarron. My dad also really liked the Lengua. We really wanted to try the churros and the flan but they were out of both. It was the only disappointment of the night but you can t fault them. It was so busy and they sold out. We ended up ordering Tres Leches to share. The portion was generous and even though that is not generally my favorite dessert I still enjoyed it. We will definitely be back to try more menu items, including the desserts.

Had a great date night with my husband here. Casual atmosphere with awesome food. $2 beef tongue tacos were on point and the margaritas made me feel like I was back in Cancun. We will be back.

I have been going to this place regularly, however there has been a change. The chef is the manager. He has absolutely no clue of how to retain customers that are regular, providing repeat business. They lost some really good employees.. Alberto..Now they are struggling with some poorly run servers, some out of school. I think the real owner needs to take a hard look at this place!

I have visited this restaurant several times, the food is good, but the service is terrible lately the waiters do not pay attention to the service, its a shame that the food is good but they really should improve customer service and I think they would improve their atmosphere.

Very poor service today. Only 2 tables including my Own. Don t knowledge your presence. It Took forever to get a simply drink and have my order taken. No one came to my table to see how everything was. I could have used more salsa and water. Sitting now for about 10 minutes after finishing my meal and still no one has come to clear my table or ask if I d like anything else. There now 4 tables of people in the restaurant. When paying my bill I complemented them on how good their food was.

I loved the concept, the food is delicious, the place is very nice although a little small, but it definitely takes you back to Mexico, I also had the opportunity to talk with the chef who is from Monterrey and he treated us very well. The music they play is in Spanish and very well selected. It was a pleasant surprise to find this Mexican food place in Calgary after so many days of traveling eating other types of food I highly recommend it.

Our waiter was super friendly and made us feel welcome. He made some great menu suggestions and was one of the best most authentic Mexican dinners we ve ever had. Salsa and chips were top notch too.

Delicious and authentic Mexican food

Service was quick, and the portions were reasonable in size. The food is excellent, was very authentic, and reminded me of many good meals I enjoyed in Mexico. I will definitely return, though I admit I would be much more frequent a visitor if it was more affordable. If you love Mexican food and you want to impress, this is a good place to bring people.

Ordered the Guacamole & chips for an appetizer which were very good. For the mains had the fish tacos and some stret tacos which where all very good as well. Will return as they didnt have the Birria tacos.

Based on very positive reviews we ordered dinner delivered by Door Dash . I love Mexican food but unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the food we ordered . The Nachos were soggy , the beef tasteless. The Flautas were also soggy and tasteless . I will never order from Spicy Amigos again

Super recommended, the food has a good Mexican flavor, the girl who served me was super friendly and always with a smile, the place was very good.

Insanely good. Words cant even describe it. I am sitting here speechless after having ordered some Tostadas for take-out. If their take out is this good, I cant even imagine how good it is when dining in. The way they separate their take-out food so that it stays fresh and the tortillas dont get soggy shows the level of attention they pay to the little details. The taste is unbelievable. Native Tongues doesnt even come close to this level.

I was blown away by the Molcajete! It was packed with flavour. I m salivating just thinking about it. A double is enough for 2 people. We also got the queso fundido and that was good too, melted cheese and carnitas with chips to dip. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming.

I am sick with infections in the foothills hospital. I tried to order from them and they accepted my order and money, then tell the delivery driver they are closed and refuse to make or deliver my food. All I wanted was some real food with spice in hospital while Im in pain, and these people seem to think life is some sort of game.

I had been hoping to try this place for two years we live 2.5 hours away and visit calgary a couple times a year over the years either the day we had free they are closed or it was covid. Finally I was able to come in. we tried the birria tacos the birria broth was not spicy at all which was so disappointing but ok in flavor the tacos themselves were tasty and our child had 3 beef tacos which he seemed to love only problem they charge you to change the toppings and not even from easy to hard from hard to easy he just wanted sour cream instead of pico and it was like 1.5-2$ something on top of original price for each taco...that was wild, cheese is also extra for these tacos which is fine.. keep in mind there is no kids menu if there was we were not offered one. Might come back try again someday.

Sent for a business lunch. Its like being in Mexico, in a good Mexican restaurant. The Mexican Coke is a nice touch.

I can t call to book a reservation and can t book a reservation online! I would at least like to be informed if your fully booked but I don t know that either. I m really frustrated!

I have been here many times. Good quality and quantity. Had the taco soup and it was thick and filling with Chicken. Started with guacamole and chips. Will be back soon.

What I witnessed last night was the most genuine thing, the young man server was helping an unhoused gentleman order takout with all the respect hed give anyone else and it made my heart full. It was so lovely to watch. The Molcajete was just as authentic as I had in rural Sinaloa, Mexico. You MUST try it! Original: I had the burrito and is was humongous but delicious. The margaritas were amazing. Service was good and it was jam packed in there. Will definitely be back.

Made a reservation. We were a party of 9 and expected it to be busy, being Cinco De Mayo. Reservation was for 7:15pm, arrived at 7:00pm. There was 3 of us, we were seated quickly, 3 more joined shortly afterwards. We sat at the table, watching the server tend to tables around us. The restaurant is small, they had 1 server on the patio that was holding his own and 1 server inside that was not. No waters, no drink order was taken, we waited....and we waited. The remaining 3 people of our party arrived at 7:40pm. No sign of the server at our table, still no waters, no drink order was taken. A member of our party got up and asked if we could get some service. Finally, we got our drink order taken. Still no waters. 6 margaritas, 2 beers, and 8 shots of tequila. The shots of tequila came out first, the margaritas came 3 at a time, the waters, and then the beer. We realized how slow the service was going to be so we asked to place another drink order. The server told us not at that time, that he had to go and take other orders from other tables. We waited....and we waited, and we waited. Another member or our party got up and asked if we could place our food order. He was told that we were not the only table in the restaurant. OBVIOUSLY and we werent trying to be, we were just trying to place our order. They sent a different employee to our table to take our food order, she even took our second drink order. She apologized, didnt throw attitude, or make excuses for poor service. We placed our food order. Our second drink order trickled out. At 8:45pm our food hit the table. The food wasnt worth the wait. The Al Pastor was dry, flavorless, and served with canned pineapple. The Tinga (spicy chicken) was flavorless, mushy, slop. A member of our group had steak tacos, and said they were good. Another member had the beef tongue, said it was alright. There is definitely way better spots in the city. As for the service, I can honestly say Ive never experienced such horrible service.

The location of the restaurant is favolable, it is in the downtown. The decoration and music was fine. In the restaurant they sell typical Mexican products. The service was poor, it was late and the waitress didnt know about the menu. She didnt know what to recommend. The food was not fresh, I think it had been on the production line a long time and she did not taste good. We ordered some beef tacos that didnt really have much flavor, the onion was wilted and the cilantro looked soggy. I didnt order dessert. I asked for the michelada beer and they served me normal, I dont know if the waitress didnt understand. I didnt like it.

Sir, I just went to this place today where it seemed like an excellent place to consume Mexican food, but when I went today and with friends, what am I recommending, there were 6 people and when paying the total consumption, the place charges you 18% for service, yes or yes For consumption of one person in the place, per table of 6, apart from that, tell me, a taco is eaten with onion and cilantro, which surprised me by charging you for the onion and cilantro separately at an extra 6 dollars for adding onion and cilantro, the truth is. I felt ROBBED, the truth was very bad, but hey, this is just my opinion. Be careful before you sit down to eat, better ask

After experiencing tacos in California, my expectations might have been too high. When I saw 4.5 rating i thought i wouldnt fail. I was wrong unfortunately. I got steak tacos meal, street tacos carnitas and chicken. The steak was like rubber, after eating my jaw kinda hurt lol and it didnt have much seasoning or salt- not much of flavor. Carnitas was better but nothing special and it was too watery (I almost choked because of the meat juice). The chicken was interesting as it has chicken tika/tanduri-like taste and texture. The guacamole was not bad though.

The nachos, tostadas, and tacos here are all great. You have to go in person for the best food and experience

This is probably my favourite restaurant in town! Spectacular food and friendly service! Really great variety of authentic foods and spices available! Try the piña coladas or margaritas, they are strong and sweet if you like that kind of thing!

A great place to eat!

I got the steak tacos and they were . The meat was super chewy, not one piece of meat was a good piece. It was tough and rubbery. I couldn t even chew it up, had to swallow the pieces whole. I would try one of the other taco meats that they make in front of you. Everything looked amazing, I am going to go back, I just wouldn t get the steak tacos ever again. Next time I m back, I m sure I will change my review to have 5 stars.

There was more hype about it than its worth. Service was super sweet but the atmosphere and the furniture werent impressive. Food was ok.. was missing a few typical Mexican options like ceviche. The 3 stars for the steak which was well spiced and therfore enjoyable.

Astoundingly bad food. I mean we walked out it was so so so bad. I would rather be tied to a rock and have my heart daily ripped out by an eagle, only to regrow, then suffer the torment again, eternally. This place is a crime against life. Nothing authentic. Cold beans in a tin with melted death would be better. Staff seemed angry that we wanted to pay and leave. Seriously bad. 10 minutes later... My stomach hurts, I feel ill... I can imagine a thousand awful things preferable to this place. The ratings... Are they bots? Its wild that people enjoy this. I ate very little before giving up, but the food is swelling in my gut as if some monstrous torturer from Hades is enacting pure revenge for all slights. Avoid!! Dear god avoid! Stay miles away.

I found this restaurant online and it had 4.5 stars. I was excited to try food here. Ordered guacamole and chips however it was not worth the price. It looked overprice for what we got. Later ordered burrito and enchiladas. Burrito was tasteless and enchiladas was really bad. Rice with enchiladas was not even made properly. Beans looked old and tasted weird. Overall service was good however restaurant is not worth visiting. If someone has tasted real Mexican food they will be disappointed in this one. Don t know what people got in this restaurant that they gave 5 stars. DISAPPOINTED

Amazing! I highly recommend the horchata yummy hit the spot! And the steak tacos, also hit the right spot! Both amazing! The waitresses was amazing and very knowledgeable about the food they are selling. Will come back, when I come and visit Calgary again.

Nice little Mexican restaurant. We had amigo bowl and chicken tostada. Initially the rice in amigo bowl was a little too dry but once it soaked up all the other ingredients in the bowl, it got better. Chicken tostada was good. Will definitely try one more time.

One of my favorite places in the city! Tasty, tasty food (the sopes are SO GOOD!) and pretty reasonably priced. Fantastic service. Lots of options and very accommodating to different dietary restrictions. Love the atmosphere and the huge selection of imported retail sauces/drinks. Highly recommend!

Nasty kitchen with rude staff. Went there on a weekday lunch and I waited 15min for them to open the place at 12:00PM to be first in line (they usually have long line up at lunch and service is a bit slow). The teenage kid working there that day decided to give training to the new staff while preparing my food. Zero hospitality given for taking my time during a work day to make me stand there and watch them train the new staff. They couldn t do that before the opening I guess. The guy made my burrito, but it broke in half while he was warping it. He told the staff in training this is what happens if you are not careful with the portions and liquids. Of course the guy didn t give me that burrito even then I was totally fine with it. He took it in the back and after 10 minutes came back with the same burrito wrapped in a new tortilla wrap. No apology or damn given for making me wait there for 20min to get my lunch and of course they charge you beforehand. I was a bit hesitant to eat the food, since I had no idea what went on in the back, but decided to eat it anyway. Bad decision as I had to leave the office and sit on a toilet for the rest of that day. Lastly, I feel their prices continues to go higher and the quality and portions lower. I know about the inflation, but you are almost paying more than every other Mexican place in Calgary (comparing with Native Tongues, Blanco, etc) and the place doesn t even look as nice of other places. I would say avoid this place and save yourself the hassle and getting your day ruined by them.

The food is amazing. 100% authentic Mexican. The margaritas are so good, especially the passion fruit one. I ordered the flautas and they are smaller than I expected but the flavour makes you forget about the size. The place is clean and the music is awesome.

The enchiladas were probably the best Ive ever had. Service was pretty fast despite how busy they were. Will definitely be going back and inviting friends and family.

The molcajete was amazing!!! So full of flavour and absolutely loaded up with meat. Loved the charred onion for the extra oomph. Id definitely come back just for this. The double size (more tortillas) would feed 2-3 people comfortably. The place felt very authentic (disclaimer: Im not Mexican) and homey. The seating area is kind of cosy; there are quite a few tables but theyre all quite close together. Even tho it was pretty full when I was there, it wasnt hard to hold a conversation within the table.

Everything about this place is amazing. Its my new favourite place. The food was great and had great portions. The server was super nice and felt welcoming.

First time here today and we got here right when they opened at 12pm. It quickly lined up and was quite busy after we finished ordering and sat down to wait for food. I had the birra tacos which came with 4 tortillas filled with shredded beef and cheese and grilled. It comes with salsa and birra broth which i was told by my friends to dip it in. I enjoyed it and also bought some valentina hot sauce which is my fav.

Great service, amazing food and authentically made. Lime margarita is pitcher worthy. Maybe next time

The burrito was soggy, the spice level was disappointing, and the portions were skimpy. We spent more time paying for our meal than actually eating it. Additionally, the kids meal we ordered was supposed to include juice, but instead, my child received Nestea, which contains 8mg of caffeine!?

I went in on October 27th 2023 at approximately 8:15, the times displayed that the restaurant would be opened until 9, so I drove for 20 mins to get some food. Upon arrival, we noticed a table of people eating but the waitress told us that they closed and couldn t serve us. I told her that the time displayed was nine and she said yeah sorry but we are going to close now because it is slow. I know the place has good food which is why I drove 20 minutes to eat there, but it was really disheartening to be told that they were going to close because it was slow so they couldn t serve us.

The restaurant itself looked really nice! However I am writing this on behalf of a pick up order that sadly missed a few items. The food was very good! High quality tasting. We ordered the take out taco kits which everyone enjoyed. However, living 35 minutes from downtown - it was disappointing to have not received both the crema and cheese that the website specified would be included in the kit. I would order here again but next time will look inside the bag before leaving. A possible 5 stars had their been the cheese and crema. :)

Delicious variety of tacos and entrees, as well as many different mexican drinks. Staff is always friendly! A very cosy little place

Not very happy with the add on gratuity. Especially when one person was a infant. Would have gotten alot more than the 18%. Dont think I will be going back.

So far my favorite place for tacos, great food, great service, and lively atmosphere.

Had the Birria Quesadilla. It was delicious but it was cold. Mango Margarita was also delicious. Everyone at the table loved the food. Definitely worth giving a try

I decided to try this restaurant as it was close to my hotel down town and I had a pretty good experience. The service was very friendly and the food and drinks came out quickly.

This place used to be good. Now they charge extra for Jalapeños and shrimp. $8 extra for the shrimp. Their packaging is cheap and flimsy and they dont tape the burrito wrapping shut. Was crossing the street and the paper bag ripped, dropping the burrito out. No problem as long as the wrapping stayed on, but it fully unwrapped rolling my burrito out. A few guys from work stopped going here, and I was giving it another shot almost every day this week. Yesterday, the pork belly was sooo salty, I couldnt finish the burrito. This was my last try and I didnt even get to eat the burrito. Im done. Back to Mucho Burrito. Theyre consistent and dont charge extra for every single thing.

Charge extra for basic ingredients in the burrito including jalapeños, cilantro, etc. They dont drain the meat enough, half the time the burrito is soaked. It soaks through their bags, which rip. They are always out of guacamole, which costs $2 extra. Burrito with guac is over $19.
