We're an independent Moroccan restaurant located in Beltline, the design district of Calgary. We’re proud to be the favorite for locals to gather and celebrate special occasions. We serve authentic Moroccan cuisine in an atmosphere that transports you to the beautiful riads of Marrakesh. Come see us tonight!"
I can't think of one way to improve this restaurant! It is the perfect place to come for a party and just chill, eat and enjoy each other's company. The interior decoration is absolutely dreamy! Once inside it is like you have left Canada and entered a secret Moroccan paradise! This restaurant on 11th Ave was opened by the current owners 21 years ago and has been in the same location the whole time! Our Real Estate team had its Christmas party here and we loved it! We had our own private corner and ate the Tour of Morocco 🇲🇦 4 Course meal. The lamb is do tender and succulent! I loved finishing the meal with some mint tea! The service is top notch as well. The owner is so efficient at explaining the food that you don't feel apprehensive at all about not knowing the food ahead of time. We will be back! ##supportlocalbusiness
The food was delicious and the service was great! We really liked the host. He was friendly, patient, and made good recommendations. We got the tour of Morocco + one tajine, and it was enough for two of us. The couscous was delicious! The best I've ever had. It's so fluffy and creamy.
Great Moroccan Restaurant with delicious food! I ordered couscous on a Friday and truly the flavour was just perfect! Tea was also great with baklava ice cream, never thought baklava would be a nice mix with ice cream. Enjoy this restaurant if you are around Calgary downtown and you are looking for authentic flavours of North African and Mediterranean delicious food. Karim
I enjoyed the couscous meal I had with lamb! The atmosphere is warm, vibrant and cozy. Love that the server took time to explain the menu to us. I intended to have dessert, but didn’t have any space left. Next time!
Dined at this superb restaurant last evening Decor and ambiance … truely is like a trip to Morocco ! Food and service was amazing The Lamb was delicious and succulent We will return Our servers Rani and Kalen were friendly and knowledgeable Overall a 5/5 experience
Great food and an amazing decor! The dishes were really tasteful. We had a lamb tajine and a merguez couscous. It was perfect to share and mix. The coxktails were also top notch. We will be back!
Great Moroccan restaurant. Together, the good food, and the decoration and atmosphere transport you to Morocco, providing a unique experience! Highly recommended. We had the $50 special and a tagine with lamb. Bread, salad, and beef merguez as appetizers.
I went first time for my anniversary dinner. Ambience was excellent and authentic. Service was excellent. Server provided us so much information about Morocco and its food. Very authentic . Food was good and authentic. Needs a little improvement on providing food with proper eating combination. Example with our Fez Tajine , we have to order rice as extra because there nothing to eat with. All in all good authentic experience and highly recommended.
Food was actually decent. I would recommend the food needs more flavour. But very good experience, will come back again for sure
Wow, what an experience. This place is the real deal, our team was there for work and it was something to write home about. Each course was so good and the stories about the food where it came from how it s prepared how sometimes people try to prepare it here, but don t quite get it right and how they sure did. We re delightful. I will definitely be back more than once.
Food was decent. Owner was cold and not very welcoming a bit uncomfortable. 200.00 for 4 people 3/5 stars
The male owner was pushy and rude while trying to upsell and getting us to spend more, it was off putting and ruined the dinner. A very rushed, unwelcoming, profit driven restaurant, which was very sad to see. Portions are very small for the price. Food
Mouth watering food. I can t even pick a favourite. It is my favourite restaurant in Calgary. Thank you so much for the great experience. Food : 5/5 |
Very nice themed ambiance and attentive service. The tour meal was excellent.
The food was delicious. So flavourful and perfectly prepared. The appetizer sampler was absolutely outstanding.
Food is good. The decor is excellent. The customer service is something to work on. We felt unwelcome compared to the other White Canadian guests . A little bit disappointed as Moroccans to be treated like that. You can do better!
A hidden gem
Definitely a unique experience. The dishes have simple ingredients, but they turn them into something wonderful and delicious. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and essential if you are in Calgary! Vegetarian options: They have one or two options for vegetarians.
Everything was fabulous here! The ambience was gorgeous, felt like we were in the Arabian world somewhere . The food was tremendous, and the service was great. A fantastic night for our Alphabet Dinner Club! A real treat!
The worst restaurant owner I have ever seen
Honestly one of the best dining experiences I ve had in Calgary. The atmosphere is 10/10. The food was delicious and the service is amazing. I highly recommend this place for your next date night!
Very flavourful food. Great service. Unique decor.
We celebrated my 31st birthday at the Casbah and it was such a romantic atmosphere to be in. The experience from start to finish was great and we enjoyed every minute of it. To think this hidden gem has been around for 20 years and it was our first time there... Had us shocked! This restaurant, the service and the amazing food was definitely a 10/10 on the recommendation list. We got a taste of Moroccos culture and our host was so sweet and kind to us. I didnt get his name, but hes the owners son. He told us about his time as a kid in Morocco and opened up a new bucket list for us next year! Thank you for the lovely experience and we will most definitely be back again to try more of Casbahs fantastic food! - Tash + Mike
Everything is good except the price too high for the food.
This is one of the best restaurants I ve been to. Huge foodie, with high expectations. I wish I could give more stars. Eat eat eat as much as you can here, every bite is an explosion of flavour, everything is fresh and the martinis are a cherry on top.
Delicious food with a great atmosphere. Our server was so kind and everything was perfect. A great place to celebrate a birthday! the couscous Sahara was incredible!
The atmosphere is amazing here and the food OMG I ll definitely go again! Mostly slow cooked food I guess so it takes some time to get your orders but it s 100% worth it! You ll feel like you are in First time trying Moroccan food? Try couscous and tajine!
Ive never been to Morocco, but Im sure that if I did, I would find this fairly similar. The atmosphere was amazing with comfortable seating and great decor. The food was fantastic! I had the Lamb Fez Tagine and would highly recommend it. I cant wait to come to The Casbah again when I am next in town.
Excellent and attentive service, beautiful decor, and some of the best food Ive had in a long time. Absolutely worth a visiting. Made for a wonderful date night.
Too expensive Portions were too small Food
Everything here sucks. Id rather go hungry than eat here. The restaurant is nicely decorated, though.
We have been going to this restaurant for years. We havent been back since the pandemic. I was very disappointed this time around. We ordered a salad which was supposed to be beets and carrots. There was no mention of spinach on the menu. We got a spinach salad with a few small pieces of beet and no carrots. I was very disappointed with the salad. I then ordered Marakesh Tagine. The was also very disappointing. The dish was way too salty and there were just a few pieces of potato and 1 piece of carrot. Again not how it was advertised. The service was really poor. We had to wait to get some tea and then had to hunt the server down to pay our bill. I am not so sure we will be back.
Amazing food! Absolutely stunning decor that creates an intimate dining experience.
Amazing place and decor. Food was super tasty
Delicious food, cozy atmosphere
Quiet the unique place with true Moroccan taste. One of its kind place in Calgary. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Parking: There is paid parking lot behind the restaurant
I recently dined at Cabasha Restaurant, and my experience was quite mixed. The food was absolutely delicious, a true testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff. Every dish was bursting with flavor and presented beautifully. However, the overall dining experience was severely marred by poor customer service. The waiter was disrespectful and unprofessional, which significantly detracted from the enjoyment of the meal. Such behavior is unacceptable and leaves a negative impression, especially when the prices are quite high. In summary, while the food at Cabasha is excellent, poor customer service needs serious improvement. The disrespectful behavior of the staff is a major downside, and I hope the management takes steps to address these issues. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly and they let you hear about it....
Nice and cozy atmosphere. Lots of candle lights and beautiful decor.
Simply phenomenal! As its underground there are no windows which makes it magical inside. See the pics, the decor is amazing. And as for the food, OMG, the tajines are to die for. Everything is to die for! The lamb is out of this world. Rani the owner is exceptional. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to in Calgary, definitely top 5 and I have been here for 20 years.
From Egypt thanks gays
Great food. Lovely atmosphere! Friendly host!
This restaurant blew our minds when we stepped in the front door. The lights and ambiance is like nothing we have ever experienced. The food came out fast, service was Excellent!! Aliyah was so sweet, knowledgeable, and tentative to our needs. She was one of the best waitresses we have had at a restaurant. The food was OUTSTANDING!! My husband said it was the best lamb he ever had!! It was falling apart with a fork and no fatty parts. Savory and sweet options, perfect portions. They have white chicken meat in the dishes, which I prefer!! So happy we came here!! 10/10! Vegetarian options: Many vegetable options! Dietary restrictions: No cheese options. Can order without powdered sugar. Parking: Sundays it s free on the street or after 6pm Saturday.
Vegetarian options: Here Veg. Food Bhaut He Testi & Fress
A brilliant experience all around. The atmosphere is intoxicating and the food sumptuous. I took my wife for her birthday and we found service exceeded expectation.
Family not welcomed in this place
We went to Casbah to have a family dinner. Ambience was very nice. But the service was terrible. The waiter was in a big rush, almost snatched the menu from our hand even before we finished the order. When I asked him what is the rush?, he answered very rudely that there are fourty people waiting for him.. the food was just average.
Delicious food and great customer service
The atmosphere was warm and cozy. Decor was very authentic. I felt as though I was eating outdoors on a warm summer evening in Morroco. The food was spectacular. Service top notch. Highly recommend. Food : 5/5
This is the most beautiful restaurant we ve ever been to, and the food was incredible. The service was impeccable. I can t believe I have never been here it s been open for 20 years!! Dietary restrictions: They have a ton of gluten free options.
We enjoyed a beautiful meal tonight. Our first ever at Casbah. The food, atmosphere and ambience was wonderful. Well done!
Had a terrific meal out in Calgary with family. Very tasty indeed. The room is gorgeous and the decor took me back to Marrakech. Had the harira soup to start and chock full of meat spice and veg. Excellent. I think all of us covered the tagine options and conversation was reduced to a minimum as we all chowed down. I wish the signage on the street was a little more visible as a tourist I could have missed the entrance down the stairs. Choukran
Such a great place to enjoy quality food and lets not forget the service is amazing!
Terrible service, cold food, I expected more after hearing about how good the lamb would be from the server. No one did a quality check, not even passed by our table that we could flag down for more water. A few dishes were forgotten. I expected more after reading the positive reviews
What an absolutely stellar dining experience! From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for the entire evening. The ambiance was charming, with dim lighting and stunning decor. Now for the food...Each dish was a masterpiece, expertly crafted with the finest ingredients and bursting with flavor. I could taste the authenticity in each bite, and for a brief moment truly thought I was in Morocco! The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. Our glasses were never empty, and our needs were anticipated before we even had to ask. Its evident that the team takes pride in their work and goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a memorable dining experience. Overall, this restaurant surpassed all expectations and left us eagerly anticipating our next visit.
The atmosphere of this restaurant is absolutely incredible. Just a few stairs and it feels like your in another country. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable about there food and menu. The owners are fantastic too! Incredible service and the food.... I dream about the food. It is my favorite place in the city to eat. Everything made there is made with so much love and care you can taste it in the beautiful food.
Amazing service, great decor and the service was prompt and lovely. The food was delicious and the tea was perfect.
Unfortunately they couldnt accommodate to feed just two people in their big place because we didnt reserve a table, but I understand they had a valid reason.
Food was great. Mom had a great birthday
Moroccan? More like more rockin! Sorry... The food was like hearty familiar favorites with a special exotic flavor. The stew I had was so filling and flavorful its hard to describe, you just have to try it. I loved the atmosphere too, semi-private dining and comfortable seats, its an invitation to sit and enjoy your food.
I dont usually do many reviews but this place was impressive. We just went out for a nice dinner tonight. I gotta say I was very impressed. I didnt quite know what to expect. The decor and vibe of the place is awesome. Quite intimate tables, comfy seats. I saw a few group areas too that looked very comfortable ie almost like a large sectional sofa around massive tables, and looked like a large family was sitting there. Drinks were great. I was initially slightly confused as to whether they served alcohol looking at the online menu, but they do have a full drinks menu with some great sahara/african inspired cocktails and drinks. Service was top notch. The server took a long time to give us history lessons and information about the food, asking for our preferences and he nailed it. He was very patient and I didnt feel like I was an annoyance when asking stupid questions about the food, in fact he seemed incredibly passionate about it. I am usually guarded when visiting places like this, where the decor etc are beautiful but more of a reason to go there (ie instagram) than the food... But I can tell you, the food was incredible and authentic. The figs and lamb and a mix of savory and sweet in some of their dishes. We had a Taste of Morocco 4 course meal, and we were full. Lots of great meats and vegetables. The Fez Tajine had big chunks of vegetables and the chicken in that was marinated and grilled to perfection. We also had the Couscous Sahara with lamb and wow that was an incredible dish. My spouse who is not usually a lamb fan was raving about it. The lamb was literally falling apart the moment the knife touched it. The couscous was unlike any I have ever eaten, so so good. Finally the desert was a nice surprise. A deconstructed baklava type desert with ice cream and strawberry/raspberry puree and chocolate sauce. What a way to finish off with a bang. All in all a great experience, very memorable and I felt like we were on another continent for a few hours. A great vibe and felt like a great escape. We will definitely be back to try out some other stuff! Thanks for a great night! Vegetarian options: Appears from menu that they have a full vegan selection on their menu.
The best birthday venue I ve ever had!! Beautiful decor, peaceful atmosphere, perfect soft background music for good conversations and such an incredible time. Our server was amazing, had fantastic recommendations and went above and beyond with my birthday celebration. Thank you so much!!
Our experience dining at Casbah took us right back to the Middle East. The ambiance was warm and intimate, the food was off the charts, the staff was attentive and welcoming. The staff member who hosted our evening guided us through the menu and helped us in selecting the perfect course. He knew every item on the menu in its entirety. This was the son of the owners of this long standing, family owned Calgary business! If you are reading this; Thank you again for hosting a great evening. You have our highest recommendation. Until next time! Julio, Amanda and Nadia
Wow just been it was truly amazing. Food service and atmosphere. It was so authentic. We shall be back. Thank you
Phenomenal service, ambiance and food. Went for a private birthday party and it was an incredibly welcoming atmosphere. The staff went above and beyond and handled our large group like we were the most important people through the door. Very knowledgeable about the menu, answering every odd question we came up with, and made the night unforgettable. Will absolutely return. Vegetarian options: Menu options for everyone, whether you want seafood, chicken, beef, or strictly vegetarian fare.
Quite possibly my favorite resturaunt experience In all of calgary. Food was phenomenal, service on point and the atmosphere unique, comfortable and intriguing.
We had a wonderful experience . I had never had Moroccan food before and decided to order the tour. I cant recommend this choice enough! All the dishes had exceptional flavour and the atmosphere is gorgeous.
Phenomenal. Lovely atmosphere. Authentic Moroccan food. Highly recommend if you are looking for something different!
Amazing restaurant. Delicious food. Owner moved mountains to accommodate a last minute reservation of 10. Love !!!!
Brilliant experience, the food, service and atmosphere was spectacular. Highlight was definitely the dessert assortment, yum! Will absolutely be back.
Overpriced, everything is extra they auto add 20% service fee main dishes at $30+ don t come with rice or bread. food was not worth the price. The decor on the other hand is amazing and service is good. But not recommended.
Very expensive. The food is okay. The quantity was very less compared to the price. The service was not that great. The atmosphere is great. Not going there again.
Amazing food. Great atmosphere and the owner was very friendly. Definitely reccomend coming here.
Authentic atmosphere and authentic food. Not only was the food authentic, but it was absolutely delicious. I have been telling all of my friends that they have to try it. Thank you for letting me feel I was back in Morocco for a couple of hours!
Divine!
Amazing dinner and ambiance! Felt like I left Calgary and stepped into Morocco! We ordered the Bastella, Casablanca Tajine with extra saffron rice and Pistachio Roe for dessert! The Bastella was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Casablanca was packed with wonderful flavors and the Pistachio Roe was light and sweet! On top of that, the absolutely stunning decor and staff made it a memorable experience!
I loved this place. It was so beautiful that I lost track of time and the owners are so kind that you feel like you are with family. Highly recommend. Food
Everything was perfect. Great atmosphere and excellent food
I love thé ambiance! The lighting is beautiful, the curtains, the candles and the flowers really cultivate a serene atmosphere. Words cannot do justice to the beauty of the restaurant decor, it s something that you have to see for yourself. And The food was fantastic! I recommend the spinach feta appetizers
this restaurant is truly fabulous! the colourful lighting creates an energy for light hearted conversations and an amazing evening for you and your loved ones, the decorations, the music and the food truly cultivates and creates the authenticity and feeling of being in morocco. 10/10 would recommended Vegetarian options: great dishes that can freely be changed to no dairy/ meat products as you please. Dietary restrictions: caters to vegans/ vegetarians/ nut allergies & celiacs! Parking: plenty of great parking on the street Kid-friendliness: great customer service and such a patient and humorous waiter! can definitely keep you both satisfied and entertained.
Worst service ever!( I had to edit) Food is great ambience was amazing! Loved the decorations and how it made you feel like you are in different parts of world would recommend it for that reason. HOWEVER, guy who was serving us literally want us to leave as soon as possible and didn t make us feel comfortable and welcomed. We gave him benefit of doubt since he was the only server there (assuming) but he was being nice and taking his time with every other table except ours. He rushed us gave us attitude and We ended up leaving as soon as our meal finished. On other note lot of reviews mentioned how portion sizes were small. We found portions were quite good if you get some carbs on the side
Writing this review after finishing dessert! I would highly recommend the food was delicious the drinks desert rose and moor jito Both delicious. Best date night yet!
One word for the food....AMAZING. Went for dinner. Was greeted with a traditional handwashing. Menu had a lot of choices. Ordered a Casablanca martini. It was deliscious. Ordered the Marrakesh Tajine. Very flavorful. Portion was very filling. The decor in the restaurant was super cool. Will be back again.
The place is the best decorated restaurant in the entire calgary. For a moment, it will let you believe that youre in Morocco. There are monumental items for the Middle East. The light is on another level. You may hardly find the server around, but he is very friendly. The food is kinda made with a lot of effort. Seems and tastes delicious though expensive. The bread smells a bit strange and is so soggy inside. It is a good place to try for South Asians and not to go place for Iranians as it is a bit spicy. Overall, a must visit place with a full pocket.
The best restaurant in all Calgary. Highly recommended if you want to experience the moroccan cuisine
Interior of restaurant is absolutely stunning! Food was also so delicious and filling. The gentleman that served us was extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. Food : 5/5
I love this place. It s unique and has amazing atmosphere. Each table feels so private but open at the same time. The food is just as good as I remember the food in Morocco was when I was there. We ordered all the sweet dishes, which I loved, but some people may not be as happy with the level of sweetness. Also finished the meal with a lovely sweetened mint tea. Made me miss Morocco so much.
Food was good! Service also nice . Ambiance is good .hope they had more recipes on menu !
I am really not impressed that they automatically added a 20% tip to our bill of 2 people! My partner didnt notice so we ended up tipping twice on food that is already overpriced. On a weekend evening the place was virtually empty so that should have told us something. I did enjoy the atmosphere and our appetizers however the main courses were pretty bland and definitely not memorable. I am so disappointed because I was so excited to finally check this place out but I will never be back. Especially because I find it such a shady business practise to add an automatic tip to a table of two people!!!
This was a first experience and for me a last, the food is not worth the prices they re charging. I ordered a hérira(soup), that wasn t very tasty full of tomato paste. I was very disappointed of the quality price. We ordered a Moroccan mint tea at $5.50/each the tea wasn t prepared at back we received it on the table with the tea leaves not opened and the water was translucent, we had to let the tea sit for a while so we can drink it. Ah and the servers comment when he clearly saw my unhappiness that he charged us $11 for a tea that zero effort was made in. His comment was welcome to Canada . We will not be back anytime soon nor recommande this restaurant to anyone, it really felt like a scam.
My wife and I came here last night and had an exquisite time! Wonderful food, excellent drinks, and amazing service. They will be seeing me back very soon!
My girlfriend and I came for dinner and we absolutely loved it. The ambiance is breathtaking and the service is exceptional. Made me feel like I went to Morocco. Thank you for a great night.
Very authentic, quiet, and cozy restaurant.
One of my favourite restaurants of all time! The ambiance is amazing and the food keeps you coming back for more. Kid-friendliness: It s a very romantic atmosphere, but babies in car seats could work.
Amazing experience to dazzle your senses.
One of the best restaurant in Calgary. Fancy dining and amazing ambience. Tajines were delicious and well cooked. Meat items were extremely tender. Orders will cross $100 amount at this place but it s worth it. Food portion could be more with the given prices but I was still satisfied. Moroccan tea is also a must here.
The restaurant has an amazing decor. It is very clean and esthetically pleasing. The seating isnt very comfortable. I didnt like the round tables. The service wasnt very good. The server didnt check up on us. We had to get up twice and approach staff for service. The food was okay. I wish they had rice, but they had sold out. The cocktails were very good; they were on the sweeter side. I am not sure if I would go back. If I was to go back it would be for the decor but not for the food. I found it very bland, even though, I asked for it to be spicy. And, the hot sauce was spicy either. Overall, it wad a good experience.
I made this reservation on open table and in the notes I mentioned we were going to be there for my birthday. From the moment we walked in we were not treated as if we had reservation or somewhat basic service with a smile and atleast a welcome to the place, have you been here before? The male server automatically assumed that we have been there before and did not give any suggestions or guidance with ordering. Lucky for me I am somewhat knowledgeable about Moroccan food which I may say that at other places the portion sizes are definitely more. This place is overpriced for the serving that you get. It was not a welcoming vibe and honestly I wont be recommending this place to any of my friends. I must mention though the other 2 tables next to us seemed like they were getting service, was it because they were Moroccan? Or known to the server? Decor was beautiful. No candle or anything for my birthday. O well.
Wad there for a family event.
Definitely our favorite restaurant in the city. If your looking to try something new come to The Casbah and try some Moroccan food!
Incredible food, ambiance, and service!!! would recommend to anyone who breaths Dietary restrictions: Very flexible options Food : 5/5 |
Food was amazing, restaurant is beautiful, staff is great. Recommending to everyone I know!!! Incredible experience !!
The atmosphere was so cool, inviting and felt private in our seating area. Food was amazing!
I took myself on a date to this restaurant and was absolutely shocked when I walked in! I cannot believe a space this beautiful and atmospheric exists in Calgary. It truly is a hidden gem and for a moment it makes you feel like you ve left the city. Escapism at its best. :)
Great food and service! The server got us to try new items and it was worth it. Definitely try the lamb and the tea! Recommended dishes Grilled Chicken, Couscous Sahara Lamb, Morroccon Mint Tea, Eggplant Salad
I recently visited a restaurant that I would highly recommend for a romantic evening . The staff was incredibly friendly, and the cozy, romantic decor made for a lovely atmosphere. Calm and relaxing place. The food was delicious, though the portions were a bit small. Despite this, I would still highly recommend this spot for a date night or special occasion.
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend, especially if youve never tried Moroccan food before. Couscous have never tasted so fluffy and creamy before!! My daughter says It was so beautiful there!
Went here for the first time today. Atmosphere is amazing. Feels like you re walking into Morocco. Food was tasty and made with love. The Fez Tajine was delicious! Loved the sweetness. Only down side is it s a very slow paced place. You don t see the servers often. We waited 30 mins for them to get us the bill after we ate .
Ive been recommending this beautiful family-run restaurant to all my friends...The food was absolutely amazing (I had the Fez Tajine with braised lamb; beef merguez and the bastella for appetizers). I still have dreams about the taste, it was THAT good. The ambience, beautiful decor, friendly staff and delicious food definitely earn this restaurant 5 stars all around! Will definitely be back!
Amazing restaurant, one of the most prettiest I have ever seen, food is amazing.
OMG!!!. The best food I have ever had!!!. Service was amazing and the place is kids friendly. Beautiful decoration. Thank you, we had a great birthday time.
We were suggested this place when we asked on a social media group for a new/different restaurant to try for our anniversary! We were blown away by how beautiful the restaurant was, dimmed with nice lighting, warm pillows and nice decorations. It felt like a mini escape from being in Calgary! We had the Tour of Morocco which started off with a soup, salad and choice of appetizer. We both had the Bastella which is a pastry of almonds, caramelized onions, chicken and dusted with sugar and cinnamon. The amount of flavours in this dish were explosive, yet complimentary to each other. Almost tasted like a dessert! For the main, I had the couscous and chose the sampler which came with chicken, sausage, lamb and prawns. The sauce was a tomato/garlic base. My wife had the sweeter version of this called Couscous Sahara with figs, proteins and warm spices. She also had the sampler and we both really enjoyed our meals, although had trouble finishing! For dessert they brought out a pastry topped in ice cream with a raspberry sauce. My only complaint of any of our dishes was the amount of pastry to ice cream was very little.. only got a few bites of it but liked what we tasted. Our server was great and recommended a non alcoholic drink which consisted of a pomegranate juice base which we both enjoyed.
Really good experience. Service is fast. Atmosphere is vibrant. Had a good time.
Amazing food and service!!!
Great for photos. Would be a hidden gem if the food was better. If the waiter thinks you did not like your food- do not expect a conversation about it. We had a few things, but the entrées were only lovely to look at.
Great ambiance and excellent food. I especially liked the lamb and Fez Tajine. They also have a wine and martini menu. Food
Excellent restaurant with a very destictive decoration.
Absolutely enchanting atmosphere! The food was amazing. We had the Tour of Morocco, and wow! Highly recommend.
Portions were smaller than we expected and food was just okay. But would definitely recommend tea and desserts! It would be really helpful if the restaurant was not so dim inside because it was difficult to read the menu, especially for my parents and grandparents who were struggling to read in how dark the setting is without using phone flashlight. Seating is also not comfortable.
As my birthday, I had amazing night with my wife at Casbah.
Great atmosphere
Delicious food in a great ambient space. Ideal for dates, birthdays or a unique dining experience.
Absolutely love this place. I ve been back twice since my first visit and will surely be back again. Simply put, they re doing it right. The food here is so well prepared and seasoned. I m not an expert on good of the region but I certainly know the difference between the just ok and the great. This spot is great. Their tajine dishes are so well balanced and the lamb in particular can t be prepared much better than that. It must be a solid 8-12 hour slow cook the way the flavour is so well forward presented. They ve got a great drink pairing menu to go a long with the menu as well. The decor created an even more memorable atmosphere. There were no corners cut in the design and construction of this spot and it is well appreciated. Yes. Definitely go and try this place.
Amazing experience. The food, atmosphere, and service were all incredible.
They are amazing, first time Moroccan food, and they guided us with menu very well, so we get the best Moroccan experience. The place has very authentic vibe with its Arabian decor.
Great place. Dont be afraid to ask questions. The gentleman waiting on us did a great job. EXQUISITE Lamb, second only to the EXQUISITE service
A family owned authentic Moroccan restaurant. Incredible ambiance and food. You will be so pleased and feel like you made a trip to the souks in Morocco and found a beautiful garden at the end to enjoy this Incredible meal. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options. Couscous and tagine. Parking: Street parking free after 6
I love Moroccan cuisine, but the food isn t authentic, and that s a common issue with ethnic restaurants in the West. I still appreciate the attempt and hard work made by the cooks, as the food has some flavour. The servers are very attentive, kind and professional. The design and decoration of the restaurant is beautiful, cozy and warm. It s advisable to order one dish per person as the sizes aren t large enough to share with two people. I would recommend, if the cooks can consider adding more food on the plates. Overall it s a cute restaurant to visit.
The food here is so full of flavour, it was shocking how good everything was. I went here with a group of 6 people, 6 different dishes and all were great. The ambiance of the restaurant is well thought out and is very cozy and comfortable. I can t wait to go back.
Cozy environment and very filling food. Dietary restrictions: Most menu items are gluten free and dairy free. Food : 4/5 |
Great food, service and atmosphere
Love love love it was soo beautiful, sitting area was so comfy, omg and that decoration was so authentic and romantic. When it comes to the food, i would say the same, authentic and tasty as well. We tried couscous chermoula and tangier tajine as in pics below..great for vegetarians and vegans.
The food was so mindful and was prepared artistically. It was clear that they care about their food and it tasted great. We ordered Rice Chermoula which tastes savory and Fez Tajine which tastes sweet. The second one was so delicious. As appetizers we got Beef Merguez which was fine. For the dessert the pistachio rose was a great ending. It was ice cream on a piece of baklava with pistachio and cream on it. Dietary restrictions: Halal
Delicious food and unique Authentic Moroccan atmosphere
The food is SO delicious, very authentic. Drinks were great too! We ll be back
I dont usually comment about atmosphere, but Casbah definitely has it. I had the couscous with braised lamb. The flavors were unique and the seasonal vegetables were perfectly cooked. I felt like the lamb was slightly overcooked. Unfortunately, the lamb shank special was sold out but I would come back to try it and the cornish hen.
Atmosphere was very cozy and perfect for date night. The food is especially delicious, notably the prawns and the soup. The whole meal itself was a wonderful experience. Great job!
The place is beautifully decorated! The food was ok.I got a salmon dish , no salt or any seasoning on the salmon. It wasn t properly cooked from inside , literally had the worse taste ever.. and I m a salmon lover and I usually can tell how it was cooked or what was used to make the dish. It came with potatoes that were completely raw . Do not recommend .
My wife and I had dinner here for Valentines Day. I couldnt be happier with our choice. The resturant is gorgeous and the staff are extremely helpful and nice. The food alone is 5 stars! Get the lamb!
Had a team dinner at this restaurant. Must say experience was outstanding. Ambiance was breath taking. You really feel that you are in Morocco. And now food it was scrumptious. We opted for one of there Tour of Morocco option from the menu and it was amazing. Before serving the food, our server explained the history and details about the food. It was an amazing experience.
Tremendous atmosphere, very intimate and cozy by design. Great food and attentive service 5/5
3 Stars for Food and 5 stars for the place even though its in the basement
Excellent Ambiance. Worth trying.
This is an awesome place to explore food from another culture. The ambiance is authentic Morrocan, the food is great. As is the service- friendly and helpful.
The food and the experience is amazing. If you are in the City for one night this is the restaurant to go to! The food was fresh and delicious! The atmosphere was so cool!
A wonderful dinning experience, everything from entering the wonderful atmosphere to the amazing service and superb food. I would recommend to everyone for such a delightful time. A huge thank you to the people working there, it was greatly appreciated.
Very expensive for a very little portion, medium service
Nice and Cozy restaurant. Very expensive. They offer deserts to leave a review which is against google review policy.
Unique and tasty dining experience
Wow!! My mind is blown! Not only is the ambience in the place so beautiful, but the food is amazing as well! Loved everything I had!! The soup, bastella, and the Chermoula. Oh and let s not forget the Palm paradise drink sooo good!! Definitely a place to check out! Hidden gem will be back
The ambience is nothing short of breathtaking. It is an entire underground Moroccan dream world. Absolutely mesmerizing ( I wish I knew where they get their tea cups). The food is so flavorful, fresh and comforting. The pistachio rose desert was spectacular. Service was friendly and relaxed. * I see some complains about portion sizes and price. Most of the people in the world outside of North America, go to a restaurant to enjoy an entire evening slowly, with incredibly well prepared and thought out food that is an experience. Not to stuff your face and go. But to socialize, experience and take it slow. These portions are meant for that. If you are still hungry after an appetizer, main and dessert with drinks....That has nothing to do with the portion size of this restaurant. The price reflects the incredible amount of time, effort and dedication it takes to make fresh authentic Moroccan food, that is consistently good. This is not a burger with ketchup and fries menu guys. This food takes time, dedication and hard work. Please do not compare this to a Canadian standard joint. It is an insult to this Gem of a restaurant. Go here, experience, relax, take it slow, make good memories.
The esthetic of this place alone should be a reason to visit. The food was 10/10 every single meal was delicious. We opted in for the dinner meal package which included salad&soup, a main and a dessert with option of coffee or tea. The price was great for the portions and the main was delicious. The owner (at least I think it was the owner) was charismatic and welcomed us warmly. He gave us a bit of a history lesson and geography lesson as well with our meal, which we asked for, and I couldnt have been happier with the food, service, atmosphere. Definetly a must see
Very good
Had a wonderful iftar dinner here, and the server was very nice.
Amazing! a MUST see place! Great service, we both loved our food and the decor is SUPER neat!!!!! coming back for sure.
Great food and love the environment of the place super cute and nice and good good but a bit pricy but other than that best place to get moroccan food in Calgary
Went to The Casbah for my birthday with a bunch of girlfriends, and it was absolutely DIVINE! The décor was magnificent and our private booth perfect for the occasion. The food was fresh, delicious and I ve been craving lamb for a week since. Additionally, the gentlemen who served us 8 girls (it was more like him trying to herd 8 squirrels tbh) answered all our questions, explained how everything was cooked (Cous cous is steamed btw!!), the history of the meals and wine, and took the time to work out which meal would be best individually - he was so patient and knowledgeable!! . GF options for one of the gals was amazing as well. Will be back at first chance!
The ambience is beautiful. Food decorated well and delicious. Chicken and shrimp were awesome.
Seriously the best hidden gem! Delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful decor in such an usual restaurant for Calgary! It literally makes me feel like Ive travelled across the world to Morocco! Absolutely recommend!
Amazing! The owner was fabulous and told us stories about Morocco, and the food was also amazing. It arrived quickly and was delicious. We recommend the dessert sample and mint tea. The atmosphere was like you were in another world. It is a must see!
Amazing Moroccan ambiance! First time at Casbah during our visit to Calgary. We loved the food, the presentation and the customer service. Really lovely vibes! Dont forget the tasteful mint tea.
My favourite place for Moroccan Food. Healthy and Delicious. The atmosphere is one of the best for Calgary dining. Highly Recommend
Awesome atmosphere and food
Ive been there previously and the food was great. Im a little disappointed theres no way to order them for delivery especially in the postcovid world where its seems the norm for restaurants to be on a food delivery app or offer delivery themselves
Lovely Moroccan dinner out with a friend. The food was fresh cooked, well-seasoned, flavorful and the service was prompt. The decor is visually stimulating, engaging and evokes the sense of mysterious nights somewhere far afield. Anyone with sensory issues (kids with autism, etc) my find it very stimulating, but we enjoyed it. I love Moroccan food generally and enjoyed most aspects of the Tajine - the veggies, but found the protein just okay (there was quite a bit of chicken, but it was so-so). However, my friends Lamb was much better. We bought one order of bread and a feta and spinach appetizer that ran $9.50 for the small pastry. The bill for two without any alcohol (one order of bread, two tajines, and a single shared appetizer) was just barely under $80.00 and with tax and tip, ended up at about $90.00. So be prepared. Could make for a romantic night or a pricey family meal. Vegetarian options: There are lovely vegetarian options because the basis of the Tajine is couscous and veggies stewed in a lovely broth. Parking: After 6pm there is free parking on the street right in front of the restaurant just steps from the door. So it is worth driving along 11 Ave to see what space is available before seeking out other options. Wheelchair accessibility: Uncertain about wheelchair access, but there is a flight of stairs straight down to the restaurant. So in the case of mobility issues, I recommend calling ahead to find out about possible elevator access.
Totally fabulous evening spent here! The food is authentic and tastes incredible. The atmosphere is inviting and the decoration is fabulous. They opened up for a large party on a Sunday for us and we were very grateful. We ve rebooked again and can t wait to go! Highly recommended!
The atmosphere was fantastic, the food was super tasty, and the staff were very friendly!
Tasty and fresh, atmosphere is very romantic ( if your neighbours are not too loud). I keep on coming back for the real Moroccan flavours!! Totally recommend this place for special nights!!
Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere
We always come here for our anniversary. Amazing food; bright or hearty flavors to fit your taste, the mint tea is to die for, personal service, delicious fresh bread. Oh, also amazing dessert.
We decided to go last minute without a reservation and lucked out! What a beautiful dining experience! The ambiance was as lovely as the food. The staff were also very kind. Thanks for finding a table for us, well definitely be back!
This is a beautiful restaurant tucked away in the heart of downtown Calgary. The ambiance is definitely a 10/10. Everything from the mirrors on the wall down to the cups and plates makes you feel like youre in Morocco. The server was friendly and very helpful The only slight downside are the portion sizes. A bit too small for my liking and price but the flavour was excellent!
Dietary restrictions: Halal
No words to describe this place. Ambience beautiful. Food absolutely exceptional. & our server which was the owner, was super intelligent about Moroccan culture & gave us amazing recommendations as we knew nothing about the cuisine. We had the eggplant dip which was beyond good it was so flavorful & fresh. The couscous was INSANELY GOOD with such bold & vibrant flavors it was delicious. Hands down the most unbelievable restaurant ever. Will definitely be returning soon
The owner of that restaurant is very cheap on his customer, I drove all the way from Edmonton to Calgary in order to have some of our traditional food, as I am Chef the food are disgusting no test no flavor i started with soup with my daughter he brought only 1 peace of bread when I asked him about the other one for the second dish, he ignored me
Such a worse and pethatic experience with respect to both food and service.... Highly NOT recommended at all... Do go if you want to waste your time and money!
Was at the Casbah with my family, the food was so full of flavor, the restaurant was probably one of the most beautiful restaurants Ive been to in my life, and the service was right on the mark. Overall, had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend if you have a special event that you want to celebrate in a special place, it will be a great time for sure! Edit: So I went back for my birthday and the experience was even better this time! Amazing owners and wonderful servers! Thanks again guys, great as always.
WOW! I have to say that the Casbah has really captured the essence of authentic Moroccan cuisine. The food was so flavorful, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I cant wait to go back.
I was recommended this place by a coworker of mine. I never had this cuisine before and the food here was great. The people working were super kind and helpful. One of the nicest places Ive ate at.
Wow!!!! We just escaped Calgary and travelled 1/2 way around to world to Morocco!! The atmosphere is outstandingly authentic. The flavours, authenticity and hospitality of this amazing family run restaurant will both delight and enthral you. I totally recommend this place to everyone I know I ll be back
Made reservations for 11 people for a birthday dinner. The server made a big issue over some people who just ordered appetizers or wanted to share a dish with another person because there was supposedly a 25$ per person rule which was not communicated when the reservations were made, nor at the beginning of the dinner. Later on, another guest showed up to celebrate with us and didn t order anything, so the server pulled me aside to complain to me about why the additional guest did not order anything and asked me who comes to a restaurant to sit around? Then proceeded to tell me he was going to charge me 25$ to serve the cake we brought with us because the restaurant was struggling. We ended up eating and leaving with the cake. The server ruined the night for the whole party and seemed like he was trying to scam us every chance he could. If 10/11 people ordered main dishes there s no need to make a scene over one person who joined us for a celebration. Absolute ridiculous customer service that 11 people experienced and will never come back or recommend.
I dine here often and every time I come I m impressed. Thank you for never disappointing me! Highly recommended
Beautifully decorated, great ambiance and amazing service. serving size for mains is decent, but unless you are ordering couscous you will have to order bread or rice with it. Desserts size for the sampler is really small for sharing even though they say it includes 3 regular sized desserts.
Great food and fantastic atmosphere. Well be back for sure!
Loved the food and the interior. Very unique place
excellent drinks, food, and service. breathtaking decor that transports you!
Delicious Moroccan food in a very beautiful and intimate setting. Great for romantic dates!
