Bringing Seafood to the Foothills since 2015
Great atmosphere, okay service and food was alright. Steak and scallops were cooked to perfection. Clam chowder was tasty too. But the Lobster was overcooked and dry. For a $80 Lobster, I would expect better. Cocktails had hardly any alcohol. We ordered an old fashioned and a lime margarita. Not upto the mark.
We got married at Rodney's Oyster House Oct 5 2024 and it was an 11/10 experience. Travis Reynolds, the Events Manager was wonderful to work with and helped make our special day perfect at the restaurant. We had the ceremony, reception, open bar, plated dinner, and live band all there and the staff were incredible, the space was beautiful, food unreal, and Travis was always checking in and overseeing the night. We received countless feedback from guests about how it was "the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to" and certainly the restaurant made that happen. An unsolicited review from a guest was "all the staff jumped to take pictures when they noticed a selfie going on, cleaning after discarded plates. Never waited for a drink once". We experienced the same, always attentive and made sure the night ran smooth". Leading up to the wedding we went several times and tried various dishes were were going to serve, nothing disappointed. Attached are some photos of the venue, thanks to @kaiweddings. The arch is from www.rockymountainrental.ca and flower wall from @flowerwallsyyc and flowers from www.redroseflorist.net
Went here for my birthday & it was a great experience . Fish tacos and fish & chips were great . Calamari was very good . I know you’re thinking what kind of cake is this but sadly it’s not on the menu & actually our own ( phenomenal desert ) and the hostess and server were Great with letting us bring our own in. No complaints & will definitely come back in the future!
Great experience at Rodney’s Oyster House. The food was amazing. The calamari was so, so good! We brought our own birthday cake, and our server and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make sure that it went smoothly. Definitely will be going back again sooner than later.
Amazing seafood joint!!! Went in on taco Tuesday so tacos were fairly priced for their sizes & margs. Delicious oysters, tuna tartare, fish tacos but I have to say the black cod meal with potatoes & broccolini has my heart. Never had fish so well made it just melted in my mouth I’m just salivating thinking about it. 10/10 recommend for sea food lovers 🤗
What an amazing experience!! We found Rodney's by Googling the best seafood restaurants in Calgary and were NOT disappointed! Our server was knowledgeable and helpful, the food was fresh and delicious. My only complaint is that we're from Winnipeg and it will be a while before we can come back again! I highly recommend the oysters as they were the highlight of our meal. We started with trying Atlantic vs Pacific and then we were hooked on the Pacific oysters and tried almost every variety they had available! Our entres were delicious as well, I ordered the shrimp and scallop pasta, and my husband had the Fundy scallops. After everything else we tried was so delicious we had to finish off our evening with dessert and had the creme brule and chocolate mousse. There were no regrets for how full we were and will definitely be back next time we're in Calgary!
Wonderful experience at Rodney's Oyster House. Loved the food and the service was excellent. If we weren't from Winnipeg, we absolutely would be coming back in the near future. Make sure you get oysters when you come. We aren't experienced oyster eaters, but asked for recommendations and our server was great at explaining everything (you will want to try the west coast varieties if you like stronger flavours and great buttery textures!). We ended up getting 10 in total between the two of us, and we weren't even coming in for oysters! The crab cakes, scallop and shrimp pasta and Fundy scallops were out of this world. Perfectly seared and the best umami/salty flavour foundation in all the dishes. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves seafood. They know how to feature the bounties of the sea at this restaurant and make them the star of the show. Out of all the pescatarian options in Calgary, we are glad we picked Rodney's for our feature meal for our vacation. Thank you to all the staff for the wonderful experience!
Excellent, excellent food, service, and atmosphere. I can’t remember the last time I’ve enjoyed a seafood restaurant this much! The staff even says things like “are you stuffed to your gills?” which was cheesy in a good way.
My Favorite place for oysters and lets not forget about the other part of the menu, which is definitely delicious as well . Brad and Chloe are always welcome with the entire stuff.
Had a great experience at Rodney s Oyster House this December! Even with the holiday rush, they still had time to take care of a happy hour wanderer like me. The service was top-notch Tyler, the drink server, was absolutely hustling like a blue-ass fly but still managed to keep things friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere, fresh oysters, and solid drinks. Definitely recommend dropping by, even during the busy season!
Awesome food and service! The music was a bit too loud but they were able to do something about it.
Awesome venue with a great atmosphere! We recently had our Photo Booth at Rodneys Oyster House for an event, and all the staff were great to work with. The management and the front-of-house staff were all very accommodating. Its an excellent venue for events!
Food was sub par for the cost.
Highly recommended
We went for a causal date night. We had the scallop and pork belly and mussels and frites. The blackcod is soooo fresh. It was done exceptionally great, soft, just right, flaky and flavourful. My husband is so impressed with the arctic char which is just done right and so juicy with a crunchy flavor skin. He is sooooo impressed with the skills of the chef.
Fun place .
Really good oysters had me begging for more. My favorite was the Lameque. Unfortunately, my wallet couldn t keep up. Also, the service is great. The people are nice and we sat at their Captain s desk (or office?). Will definitely come back again after refilling my piggy bank. Dietary restrictions: Shellfish Wheelchair accessibility: There are steps in front but only like 3
Don t go here. The food is so overpriced, terrible service, and long wait times. It s fish and chips you could get at Joey and the prices are 10 fold. These goofs know how to work a deep fryer and a some a joint. That s it
Waited a good while for food but that s ok staff were nice , I ordered the lobster roll ( cost $55) when it came out from the kitchen it was boarder line hilarious/sad I actually couldn t believe it when I was served what I can only describe as McDonald s fries and a tiny portion of lobster in a tiny store brought bread roll , like for $55 at least have home cut fries and a home made bread roll , I wouldn t mind paying for food as long as it s half nice but unfortunately this was not that should have went somewhere else
Mediocre. The kitchen is cutting costs and corners and it shows. The calamari is described as being tossed in parsley and shallots. Mine had neither of these elements, was tough, and came with a single fraction of a lime wedge (??). Bottled beer was room temperature. Tacos were alright for $2.50.
This is the second time we go to eat, the first time I can say it was great but this time unfortunately we cant say the same. We were almost two hours waiting for our food from the time we ordered and even ordered appetizers and everything arrived at the same time, the restaurant was not crowded enough for such a delay. I also work in a restaurant and I know about the things that can happen but in order to provide a good service I explain to the client why it will take so long and we apologize for it (which was not our case) we all had a discount for drinks except one person for not ordering a drink, that is, if a person who is the one who ordered the most did not order a drink, will not receive the discount? really none of the people who were there agreed with this. And it should be noted that there was a table long before us and they brought their food long after ours. We really hesitate to return.
You really can t beat 3-6pm happy hour with $20 for 6 oysters and your choice of a happy hour drink!
We held our office holiday party here and I cannot rave enough about it. The service, food, and venue cannot be beat. We will absolutely be back for more, and I cant overstate how much you need to get to Rodneys
Great place, great food
Nice place with reasonable prices, good food, particularly fish and chips, and very good service
This restaurant did an awesome job for my close friends wedding. The food was delicious and the service was top notch
GRACE IS THE BEST!! Sit at the bar and get her to serve you. She absolutely kills it and we will be back just because of her!!
Parking: A bit difficult to find a spot on Saturday evening...but was ok Recommended dishes
My restaurant
Great selection of oysters. Good Happy Hour specials.
We sat at the bar which is the best experience. Edward shucked our oysters and was very personable and made sure we were taken care of. Service was fast and amazingly good! This was our 2 nd time here and will definately come back!!!!
Have never had a bad experience here. Some of the freshest tasting seafood Ive had in Calgary. Amazing staff and environment!
Candied smoked salmon was delicious. Had a nice selection of drinks and the oysters were fresh and great. Shucked right in front of you if you sit at the bar.
Amazing! Yes a bit higher in price, but well worth it! Staff is amazing food is glorious! The decor is stunning hehe and humorous if you know you know! Kid-friendliness: Gave my little one a zillion colouring pages which she loved and quickly got her meal out! Plus staff was friendly to her and her toddler chaos!
The food was alright, flavours were basic nothing special, the scallops sliders were the best thing on the menu I tired. Unfortunately if you are looking for a nice seafood meal I wouldn t recommend this place. The service was very good though.
Normally we go to Rodneys for dinner and the food is amazing. This time we went for cheap eats and did the happy hour tacos, the tacos were ok, not the best but the price was great. I guess you get what you paid for. The entrees not during happy hour is worth it! Delicious!
Tuesday tacos are 10/10
Always a 10/10 experience at Rodneys. Staff is friendly and effective, food is delicious, we love sitting at the bar and watching/chatting with the shuckers!
Fantastic experience! Our server Sandra was amazing. A must when you pass by Calgary.
Great happy hour deal. 6 oysters and a beer for $20.
Fresh food
Best seafood place in Calgary and a must on happy hour. 6/5 stars
Complete rip off avoid
I really wanted to love this. I am honestly so disappointed, I had ordered a lobster and chocolate mousse. I spent $108 to have this delivered as a one time occasion treat to myself. the lobster did not come with butter as advertised which was really unfortunate considering that is kinda what makes the dish in my opinion. The lobster arrived completely cold (maybe because of the distance to hotel?) still I think for $108 for a single persons meal it would be fair to expect it to at-least arrive as advertised albeit a bit cold. I had saw reviews and really expected good things, I would have even warmed it up in the microwave but it just wasn t enjoyable to have a plain unseasoned lobster body with nothing at all on it. I hope my feedback can help someone avoid a mishap like this in the future as it was a big let down considering the price for something that unfortunately went to waste
Definitely a place youll want to stop in at. The lobster tail was one of the best, sweetest tasting tail Ive had in 40 years
I want to give a massive shout out to Travis and the staff at Rodney s. They go above and beyond to make sure they everything is all good. And boy is it good!
DJd a wedding here, both the food and atmosphere were incredible! Special shout out to Travis and the staff for their assistance in locating some important equipment. Very much appreciated. Food : 5/5
I ordered Land&sea and the scallops were really delicious! The staff were all friendly and the service was good. It looks like a good place to go casually.
Fantastic food and knowledgeable staff, especially the manager Brad. The oysters were devine so was the rest of the food we had. Both chowders, scallops & pork belly, tuna tartare definitely spot to visit.
Great place for seafood lovers In Calgary.
Great appetizers on food Good selection of beer and excellent service Food
This was on my list of restaurants to try and we went last weekend. The service was top tier, and was the most positive part of our dining experience. It was a dinner for three adults. Total cost was $460 with tip. Here is what we had: Two orders of shrimp cocktail - It was shrimp cocktail nothing groundbreaking. Cocktail sauce was excellent. I noticed online all the advertised shrimp cocktails come with 6 shrimp, both of our orders came with only 4, so for $48 we got 8 total shrimp. One order of calamari - Everyone enjoyed this and the sauce. It was excellent and looked as advertised. 13 Oysters - A place known for being an oyster house, I was a little shocked at the oysters and how they were served and presented. They were NOT cleaned properly, some were not even shucked off of the shell. When my husband went to apply lemon to his dirty oysters, the lemons given were rotten, they were literally brown and so dried up no juice came out at all. Our lovely server provided the table with fresh lemons. Clam Pasta - Excellent Two orders of lobster rolls - Online they looks really good and being from Nova Scotia Im used to cold lobster rolls so I was excited to try them warm. We were told it was 3 OZ. of meat EACH roll and the ones we were served, we would be lucky if there was 3 OZ of meat between both rolls. The taste was good but again, not that I had a scale in my purse, but there is no way there was 3 OZ of meat. I weigh a lot of my food for meal prepping and I know what 3 OZ looks like so just keep in mind when youre paying $48 per plate that youre maybe getting 1.5 OZ. Two orders of crème brûlée - The candied lemon wheel, it was advertised with DID NOT come on either of ours. Despite again not being as advertised, everyone enjoyed this. 2X Lighthouse lemonade - My husband LOVED this drink 2X 8oz rose wine - Good The interior was clean, well decorated and spacious. Music was WAY too loud and we had to shout and yell over it to hold a conversation. Based off of the food we received Im not sure if I would recommend this place, probably not, and I doubt I will return. I feel like we were underserved or shrinkflation has hit this place so hard they are not able to afford to serve as advertised. I expect what I order to come as advertised and it was not!
I enjoy coming here. I love the scallop sliders and the oysters.
Love this place for a great, light, quick and delicious meal with non alc options too.
Wanted to give a big thank you to our server Julia who made a birthday dinner extra special!! Went over and above for us and while the food itself was fantastic the service was even better! Thank you! Vegetarian options: Not on the menu but the kitchen made me a pasta without the seafood and subbed veggies (mushrooms and tomatoes) instead. It was amazing!
Patti and I were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary. We were seated at the private Captain s Table . Our server was Isabella and she was so sweet and attentive, it made us feel like royalty. The food was incredible! We ordered fresh oysters to start and then the steak & Lobster special for two. Wow!! Is all I can say. They treated us to Crème Brûlée for dessert as they special gift to us. The experience was over the top, Isabella made sure our night was perfect and fun. We will be asking for next time. Thank you for helping us celebrate.
Always great food and great service. Oysters are pretty darn pricey, but worth it for the occasional treat. Happy hour is a great deal.
Excellent service, and I love the happy hour deal! The staff were very accommodating to my uncles allergies. Thank you!
Looking for an amazing wedding venue!? Rodney s hosted our wedding and we couldn t have been happier. The atmosphere is beautiful, but it was the staff that made our day even more special. Travis (Events Manager) is amazing at his job, we can t say enough to express our gratitude towards him. The food, the staff, the ambiance, 5 Stars!! It s a day we ll never forget. Thank you Rodney s!
Love sea food. Great vibe.
A very good place in the Calgary downtown area to go for seafood.
My family s first time and we love it! For sure we ll come back for happy hour.
Fresh oysters and fish. Loved the food. Recommend going mid afternoon when it is less busy.
Maybe the best happy hour deal in Calgary?? The $2.50 fish tacos on Tuesday are amazing!! $5 margaritas and beer during happy hour also. Great service and atmosphere. Can t wait to return!
Rodneys oyster house is a hidden gem. Although located on 10 Ave and 3 street SW, its very much in plain sight. Here-in lies its elegance. The decor is well done, a great atmosphere for a wedding reception. The food is fantastic .. and Ive had fresh clam off the bay in San Francisco! Gracies smile and laid-back attitude added to the experience, reminding me Im still in the city I love, though the oysters and clam made me nostalgic with memories of the ocean. The selection of sauces is surprising and paired well with whatever I dipped. Be sure to visit the washrooms for an appropriate selection of pictures matching the vibe. I will certainly be making this a regular whenever seafood cravings come ashore
Fish and chips are delicious and service was good
My favorite place for oysters! They have a great happy hour menu Food
Usual stopping in for Taco Tuesday as it is nearby and you will not find better fish tacos at that price. Margaritas are also a perfect accompaniment to the fish taco lunch. Love the house made sauces as well. As you can see we really like them.
2.50 Haddock Tacos special on Tuesdays. Finally someone that can match my freak(
Visited during stampede, was seated quickly and drinks were served speedily too. Great happy deals, especially alongside the Taco Tuesday deal. Oysters were excellent, condiment selection exceeded our expectations. Fish tacos were tasty and fresh. Margaritas also incredible here! Our server was friendly and efficient, even with the hectic stampede crowds and atmosphere. Will visit again.
We were there about a month ago to celebrate a birthday and Father s Day, our first time here. We were seated in the captains office, was private and loved the whole atmosphere. We had the pleasure of meeting Sierra in the beginning and then having Samira in the end. Both were so lovely and friendly. We shared some short stories about family with Samira which was heartwarming. We had the calamari, which is the best we ve ever tasted. The fish and chips was very good with two pieces of crispy fish and chips that is worth coming back for!! The black cod wow The Butter roasted, sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions, roasted potatoes, broccolini, green goddess dressing, fresh radish, herbs. I m not sure what they did to the fish, but it was amazing! We highly recommend you visit this place. You won t be disappointed with the amazing staff and the food!!!
It was a great place to grab a bite. The oysters were some of the best Ive had. The food was just okay
Between the oysters and the lobster roll, the chowder and the mussels, absolutely perfect meal at the Oyster House!!
Love this place. Very spacious, lots of staff, they actually have something to tell about the oysters. The East coast oysters are better by the way. Would give it 6 stars if they had a patio
Service was poor and disorganized even with an advanced reservation. Food was very flavorful! Dietary restrictions: Dairy and Gluten Free
I love this place and their happy hour menus are all good. Little bit pricy if you go during non- happy hour time. But still I like it
This place was amazing. Service was great and the food was tasty. Hit it up!
My fiance and I went here for our 5th anniversary on a friends recommendation. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. I had ordered the crab, and there was a mix-up, so I had to wait a longer - they apologized and gave us drinks and dessert on the house! Im telling you this was the best crab Ive had in my life. Well worth the wait! I would definitely visit again and try some other dishes on the menu!
Taco Tuesday deal is worth the price. Service can be slow though. Waited 40 minutes to get served.
Small portions and low quality for the price and the supposed grade of the restaurant. Service was very unprofessional and also saw a barista chuck on a Smirnoff behind the counter
Good happy hour. Service is prompt and friendly. Some servings are quite small, but flavours are good.
Delicious seafood and laid back atmosphere. Pricey, but good food is always worth it.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Fish was very fresh and I grew up on the east coast, so I know what fish should taste like. The sliders were also super delicious and juicy!
Went there 2 years ago when in Calgary and loved it then and still loved it again this time when we went. Great atmosphere, Service and food.
The only bad thing I can say is that I found it really loud. The food was good and oysters were fresh. Food
Oysters were amazing, lobster roll was incredible, great service and atmosphere
Chowder was ok. Lobster is tasty. Oysters selection was great. Overall experience was good.
The atmosphere is that of a slightly noisy Canadian restaurant. For food, I had lobster and pasta and it was delicious. The server was friendly, but there was one thing that was a bit off. I ordered a small lobster and it said $50, but when I checked out, it ended up costing $62. I think it was probably a large size. It was delicious and I enjoyed it, so I think I should have talked to the team about their hard work.
Omg happy hour is THE top diggity dog! I ve been coming here for nearly 10 years ( ??? ) and have not ever seen a decline in food, service or atmosphere, and just a slight reasonable increase in price!!!
We randomly walked into Rodneys and were glad we did. I was suprised to find good seafood in Calgary given its location, but both the oysters as well as the shrimp cocktail were delicious. Their Alberta beef tartare came recommended by the staff, who Ill add was friendly and helpful at giving us recommendations, and that was great as well. Worth a stop.
Better than it ever was. Thsts rare. Worth a visit for sure.
My wife had a craving for fish and chips so we hit up this place on a Friday afternoon after work. It was surprisingly nice inside, open and tall ceilings with glass sections in the ceiling to allow lots of light. I ordered a soda while my wife just stuck with water. The server tried hard pushing happy hour options and that set the par for the rest of our service. After we both ordered 2 piece fish and chips which the server told us rudely that it was full price (they have a special for lunch and guess they wanted to make sure we knew we were paying dinner price?). It took over 10 minutes to get a refill on pop but food came out pretty quickly. The fish was good, crispy/thin coating on outside with thick moist fish in the inside. One piece of fish was sitting in coleslaw so it was soggy. The coleslaw was terrible with absolutely no flavor (creamy wet cabbage). One server came halfway through eating saying the other was going home (but we still saw him serve tables the whole time we were there). The new waitress just ignored us. Were big seafood eaters and this was our first visit here and will not be returning.
The best oysters ever!
Ask me in February 10 stars. wonderful knowledgeable girl I was fortunate to speak with and do a valentines order. There was no issues with travelling aka 20mins back to my house since I m outside the delivery area. She was so informative and kind and told me a what was in stock and I ordered $120 worth and packaged up ready to roll! I came and got them and off I went. Valentines to remember! Called today. Gong show. Not allowed to phone order. Even at 2pm being respectful of not as busy times like lunch, dinner or happy hour. Order online only - Which is totally fine. But I called in because you only get east coast oysters when ordering online. This is Based on them not travelling well but if the person who orders them is going to pick them up and eat them within 30mins? I cannot see them being that bad or not an option. Especially if it was allowed before. As last time I ate them after 5 hours on ice in the fridge for dinner after getting them at 1pm. And were wonderful. So today, One person checks and tells me to put it in the notes what oysters you want and we can do that for you I call back to even let them know that I cannot write that much in the notes because it s limited to 50 characters. Which is about 8 words. Call back to mention about the note part that and ended up being the most frustrating conversation that was unnecessary, when all I gave was suggestions of how to improve that. Then found out many I hoped for weren t available right now. So even if the note part worked I would have had no idea what s in stock. Wrote that. And not had them. So that has to be worked out how are people to know if they aren t told. And told to just go online. There is no updated menu of what is available (if BREWERIES can update their rotating seasonal TAPS online daily weekly monthly - so this could be done) if people want to drive all that way - Pick them up. Pay full market. Why not let them know what is in stock. Give them a choice online. If they are told to not call. And please bring back the option to order west coast if they are in stock. There are people who love oysters and not the sauces and enjoy the choice, brine, terroir and selection. Not just order a Whack of Whatever oysters. Online orders are east coast only and whatever is in stock for happy hour. So I would end up just getting a bunch of one kind that are the happy hour oysters and paying more for it? Essentially. Disheartening. Because it was such a lovely experience, a wow feature to my celebration at home last time. Please don t forget about people who want to enjoy and experience Rodney s and make an effort to want to do that at home, even outside of door dashes perameters. if it s currently the only option and make the effort to Get them and coming in to dine and drink isn t a possibility. Please update the take out Notes section to actually allow a note larger than 50 spaces. Please consider looking at updating your selections online as they change so oyster lovers have a choice and know without bothering staff. Please make the ordering online allowing westcoast oysters if you are within the city limits and use a disclaimer if you need. Because they travelled fine on ice. I was gearing up to do a platter of 50. And now it s nothing.
If youre looking for fresh and delicious seafood, served by friendly and knowledgeable staff, look no further. The vast selection of oysters from both east and west ensures there is a mollusc for everyone. But dont be fooled by the name! There is more than just oysters... Personal favorites are (but not limited to) the candied salmon, the mussels, and the lobster rolls. Enjoy with a spicy Caesar, adorned with a jumbo shrimp, or a robust Malbec, if your palet desires. At Rodneys, the world is indeed your Oyster.
This place has great open high ceiling space and bright lightning. The food is tasty and service is excellent.
Great atmosphere, friendly waiters/waitresses, average food, high price -Oyster is good average size -Avoid their mussels in happy hour menu, I thought it maybe grilled but instead it s taste like a cold salad which is sweet and sour and really tiny portion for $16 -white wine not in goblet and cup feels so sticky
Pretty tasty
Womdeful place and awesome food! And the service was amazing!
The ambience of the restaurant was amazing. The food was delicious, with a diverse seafood selection. Kudos to the chef and the team. Chanel, who managed our table, was very professional and super friendly. Chanel was very attentive and ensured all the requests were taken care of, and the lead time between the orders was very minimal. I appreciate her hard work. Keep up the great work!! Thank you! Shri
I wanted to eat sea food and the photos from other reviewers here tempted me. The presentation of the food is perfect and the taste is top notch. Its not cheap. The place looks picturesque, I went at a time when there were almost no people so it was very quiet. Great attention. Highly recommended
We had a group reservation for a birthday. It was our first time at Rodney s. I had a broken foot and our table was on the second floor. My fiancé was going to piggy back me up the stairs. However, the manager was persistent in helping us out. I had one arm on his shoulder and another on my Fiancé s, and got carried swiftly up the stairs. The ambience was great. The seafood was fresh and we had a great time celebrating our friend s birthday. We would definitely come back again to try other dishes! Wheelchair accessibility: There is no elevator.
Had a Birthday party here, the atmosphere is great! Food was alright, definitely overpriced for the quality.
Rodney s is always worth the visit and has a stellar selection of oysters - always fresh and delivered daily, showing the restaurant s commitment to quality. I absolutely love all the menu items but my favs right now are the Mini Crab Cakes, of course the always famous New England Chowder, Scallops & Porkbelly (I alway add an extra piece), Nice Fundy Scallops (loving that they put the kale back with it), Land & Sea (Thursday date night), and one of my new favourites is the must try Black Cod!! AND don t forget they have the BEST HAPPY HOUR!
Absolutely wonderful service and our server was so kind they actually thanked us...saying we were amazing. Come for the oysters and expect be be taken care of. Channel was an absolute dream. Parking: Street parking
Came here with the family for dinner. Staff were very friendly and accommodating of our little one. We were seated quite quickly. The restaurant has a Marine/ nautical interior theme. Theres also an upstairs level and overall is a very spacious venue located in the downtown core of Calgary The seafood Tower was delicious and was very fresh. It had a good selection of seafood including snow crab, lobsters, additional oysters, prawns, ahi tuna salad, mussels, and Jonah crab claws. We also to ordered two dozen shiny sea oysters which were delicious. The meat was very sweet with a small hint of brininess. To compare we ordered blue label oysters from pei which were a bit meatier/ larger but overall still quite sweet. This was the favorite amongst everyone in our group. For the fish and chips. Fish batter was a bit thick and doughy. Could have been a tad crisper. Overall great experience. If you love oysters I dont want to shuck your own, this is the place for you. Kid-friendliness: High chair was provided. Kids menu available.
Amazing fish tacos and an awesome deal on Tuesday. $2.50 each! Dont forget to ask for hot sauce. Might need to ask for more lime wedges as they are pretty small.
So lovely place
Obsessed. If you like oysters, you need to visit Rodney s. 10/10. Great staff, food & atmosphere.
10/10
Top notch oysters, but quite expensive. Not sure how they can say on their website you can expect to spend an average of $4 an oyster when the prices range from $4.25 to $5.95 at least when I went. Maybe only during happy hour or when there are more types available.
Definitely the best lobster roll west of Newfoundland!! And clam chowder delicious
One of the best happy hours in town. Definitely get the fish tacos. Always super friendly and helpful servers.
Came on Taco Tuesday, service was fast and friendly, food was cheap and tasted great. Beers were cold.
The scallops sliders are simply the best!m, though you only get them during happy hours, so make sure you give them a try. Oysters and fish tacos are also great. Very fresh, tasty and a nice service. Beer selection is also good, and it s just $5 during happy hour. Totally recommended.
I went here for the cheap fish tacos a few Tuesdays back. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The fish tacos are substantial and a great deal for the price.
We went for tacos on Tuesday, and ended up also getting the oysters and a drink for happy hour. Id recommend both. Service was great, and the restaurant was also very pleasant
Solid eats.
Our last visit to rodneys, when we asked our waiter which order our oysters were on the dish so we knew what we were having told us they all taste the same, do you want them or not? About a year went by and we decided to give them another shot. The oysters were alright and tasted fine, the sauces are great. But if you actually want to know about the oysters youre having/plan to have more than one order, and want to be sure about which ones you had it seems like the staff doesnt really care about the experience. They took away the menu and the order paper so we didnt know what was on the plate or what order. Each oyster I ate had shell pieces in it, and they seem over priced. At an average of about $5+ per oyster, seems like too much if youre looking to enjoy more than just a couple. Probably wont be coming back any time soon knowing theres better options for oysters in the city.
To start off - I m not fan of oysters. I don t eat shellfish. I m the least likely person to go to as place like Rodney s Oyster Bar. Nevertheless, I visited because a small group of us were celebrating a birthday, and that s where we went. The service was extremely attentive, the food was delicious, and, for an evening, I was transported to an east coast restaurant on a boardwalk. (I had the black cod - a dish that was so new the server didn t even know it had made it on to the menu yet - and it was perfectly prepared and expertly presented)
The best
We took my mother here for her birthday. The small menu is well prepared in an excellent maritime atmosphere. Plates were beautifully dressed and the service was strong.
First time going to rodneys in calgary and had an amazing time prior to a hockey game! Oysters were ice cold and house hot sauces are out of this world!! had the scallops and mussels with frites as well, still dream of both.. Also 10/10 service! Not something I say lightly in this day and age..counting the days till we go back! Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options
Really great oysters! Staff is all super friendly and attentive. Food is top notch and the atmosphere pairs nicely with the place. Wonderful experience!
Excellent place for drinks and appetizers. Their main dishes are excellent too. I regularly attend their taco Tuesdays and happy hour. Great cocktails and great prize for the tacos and oysters! Definitely recommend. One recommendation for the business, i regularly see families with babies during the earlier hours of the evening, so it would be nice if you would add a changing table.
Everytime I go to Rodneys its always a fantastic time with great food and service. I got the tuna tartare delivered today and I have to say, it is the BEST in all of Calgary. Ive tried ordering from other places before and its been very disappointing with maybe 5 or 6 pieces of tuna. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sending a huge portion of delicious tuna my way!! Props to the kitchen!!
Great service, nice waiters, fresh oysters and delicious draft beer thank you for a great evening, everything was top notch!
Love this place! I dont go enough, but I should :-) The staff is so nice, oysters are fresh, and if something goes wrong with the food they will make it up to you. French fries are also sooo good! Food
Great place for seafood in Calgarys core. Prices are reasonable and food is excellent.
Great oysters, great sauces.
Service was great, lobster roll and lava cake were a miss. Lobster was tough and rubbery overcooked. And the lava cake itself wasnt very chocolaty or sweet. The sauce on the lava cake was nice though. I believe we overpaid for the quality we received.
Rodneys is a must for us when visiting. The oysters are fantastic, crab cakes worth the drive every time
Best calamari, the shrimp scallop pasta was delicious. Staff did not know how to explain how many scallops or shrimp come with the extra request- ended up paying $3.50 per extra scallop/shrimp lol. But was delish and worth it. Will be back.
The steak frites was mediocre BUT The seafood and service was 10/10! Our waiter Yarik was friendly, funny and very knowledgeable with the items on the menu. He recommended a few different kind of oysters, all which were delicious. Their in house sauces with the oysters are unique and really tasty. Also, the clams in green curry sauce are some of the best I ve had in Calgary. The atmosphere at Rodney s is also a unique experience in Calgary. It made me feel like I was back home on the east coast. Thanks for having us!
Great Tacos and Bulldog Margaritas!
Rodneys Oyster House has always come through with a great evening on our boys annual oyster night out . 8th year and still going
Funny enough I wasnt going to order oysters but we started with an oyster plate to start, so damn good. We were meeting some friends from out of town and it was a great relaxing atmosphere. Parking: Parking is right across the street on 10th
When in downtown Calgary I always try to get at Rodneys Oyster House. The staff are very friendly the food is fresh and cooked to the highest of standards. It may be a little pricey, but I think its better to pay for higher quality better cooked food. 7 out of 7 would eat here again.
All good with the service, drinks and service
New Year s Eve, 2023. Dined here as it is a favorite. Unfortunately the restaurant suffered a pretty significant sewer back up and had to shut down at 8 PM on what would ve been one of their busiest nights of the year. They handled it with Grace and professionalism that is unmatched and we will be back as soon as they reopened. Our server, Sam, was an absolute delight and made our evening spectacular, despite the issues that arose (completely out of their control) Five Stars for Rodney s for their handling of this difficult situation, on such a busy occasion as New Year s Eve.
I had reservation at 7:45pm, called at 7:35pm to extend to 8pm,they said no problem. I was parking at 7:59pm when they called me to tell me they are no longer taking tables because they are closing early on new years eve theres kitchen sewage problems of some sort, and the girl on the phone didnt sound very certain. We had to scramble to find a place to eat elsewhere on New Years Eve. Very disappointed.Im not even sure if it was true or not.
Amazing service every time we come in. Oysters are always great and their homemade sauces are a great pairing. Always love stopping in when we are in town.
Hands down best seafood in town! Especially oysters! Ordered 40 for two of us about a week ago and they were so good! Definitely a repeat place!
First time visiting from the UK. Great oysters, lovely wine, fab atmosphere - and a true bargain at happy hour, 20 bucks for 6 oysters and a glass of white wine!!! Loved it.
My husband and I have recently just started to eat raw oysters. Someone told him about Rodney s and we had to try. We were very pleased. I should ve written down what each oyster was called but the jumbo ones pictured were superb. They were all good but those ones really stood out. They also had a variety of sauces, although they should use smaller, deeper spoons. It was a bit difficult to get some of them out.
Excellent seafood menu
What a blast this place is. Honestly happy hour oysters the best place to be!!! Don t hesitate to come here the food and service is absolutely incredible. Was one I won t forget!
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was fantastic!! Atmosphere was fun and trendy. Parking: Close
Always have to leave room for improvement but over all experience is always great, food and staff.
Service was abysmal. Creepy waiter spilled half a bottle of champagne all over the floor, laughed, and let it sit. No offer to supplement the $ he spilled all over the ground. Limited menu heavily focused on smoked salmon dishes. Oysters were the only saving grace to an otherwise disappointing dinner.
Great ambience, fabulous staff and oh yeah...oysters are amazing!
Food was excellent, but and I mean BUT, service was very poor. My wife and I booked a reservation and although the place was only 40% full they put us at the back of the restaurant where the chairs are cheap and ambience minimal. It took at least 10 minutes to even get our drinks ordered as we didn t really have a server . Some other customers came in and sat at a table behind us and ordered almost right away. They came in 15 minutes after us and were finished appetizers and main meal before we had gotten our appetizers. I stopped a server and asked why this was and they said that my oysters that I ordered took time to schuck and also the crab we ordered takes a lot longer. When I pointed out that that table had oysters also they kind of didn t know what to say. My wife s main dish came out before her salad and they apologized for that. Our server went home half way through our meal and we had no one serving us. I flagged down a man behind the bar and he told us that there are not exactly any designated servers per table but that they all chip in for each table. As we sat there during our stay there were three other tables that someone literally got up from to find a server to either get the bill or some other item. I have never seen that many tables have problems with service. There was plenty of staff around but they seemed to look busy behind the bar area but definitely not serving tables. Some stood around and talked to each other when they could have been serving all these tables. I found the staff here friendly when you did get a chance to see them but by no means was there anyone in charge as it seemed to be a very loose and nonchalant staff. We have been here four times with the two last times having similar service. Will we be coming back to Rodney s , no I think not. Our bill for just my wife and I was over $300.00 so it s not like we were eating on the cheap. I usually tip 30% but today I tipped 15% and I am not sure why I tipped at all. All I know is I m done with this place. The supposed server we had was inexperienced and really did not have any clue about serving. Tomorrow I will call this place and ask to speak to the owner as this is totally unacceptable, although I suspect the owner is probably absent most of the time. For a Saturday night and having 40% occupancy might be some kind of indication. I see the AGM has responded below so I will add a couple of more things here. I noticed that there was definitely profiling going on this evening, not something I really wanted to put on here but it needs to be addressed. Every table in this back section was there for a reason and it didn t fit the target audience that I think they are looking for. I absolutely want nothing or need any compensation as that is not why I wrote this review. We eat out a lot and expect a certain level of service. Like I said, Rodney s was only 40% capacity and there were plenty of servers, the fact that all the tables in our section had to seek a server out to pay their bill or get service is unacceptable. Or that an observable demographic was seated in this section, each it seems for different but identifiable reasons makes me wonder if it is systemic or just very poor judgement and service last night. Now if the AGM wants to talk to me they can look at my name on the bill that ordered the 2.25 lb crab, a dozen oysters, house salad and the Scallops and Shrimp pasta dish. It is not a common name as there are only three people in Canada with this name and I am easy to track down. But I truly do not want any compensation, that is not what this is about.
Went there on a Thursday night. The oysters were great but the shucking was not - shell in 1/4 of the oysters we had. Calamari was floppy and the lobster roll was soaked in butter, the lobster was quite chewy. The scallops were amazing. Won t be going back. This place is very expensive and seems to have gone downhill.
It is a very nice place. More spacious, relax and comfortable. And we had lunch here, the food is good. Especially the fish and chips, they have Friday special offer 2 pieces $16 only, it is $24 daily. I can say that this is the best fish and chips I ever ate in Calgary.
Great place, been here many a time for various occasions. Recently the price for simple items have sky rocketed, I know the economy is tight but $40 for a lobster roll no longer than 5 inches is insane.
Awesome ambiance, delicious food and great staff. Highly recommended!
Very accommodating for large groups. They made space for us ahead of time. Much appreciated. The vegetarian option is not printed on the physical menu, but is listed on the website menu.
Our company Christmas party was amazing! The servers were so friendly, Bar service was excellent, attention to detail was outstanding. The band was excellent ! Thanks you for a great evening !!!
Great atmosphere, the tuna tartare was delicious & was pleasantly surprised at the mound of mussels with the mussels & frites
Hard to find better seafood for this price in the city. Atmosphere was cozy and lively, albeit a bit in the louder side. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, however they did have trouble timing our appetizers and mains. My wife received her appetizer after my daughter and I had already finished ours. Then all our mains arrived before my wife had finished. We also ordered a side of bread that didnt come out until we were almost all done eating. Other than that, no complaints.
The food was good, service was excellent will definitely be back again.
Good food!
Great service and the selection of oysters were phenomenal. I got six different type of oyster. The sauces were quite good! Highly recommend the lobster roll.
If you are closed then tell people that before you take a drink order
Best to get the oysters during happy hour.
Came here for oysters and wasnt disappointed. The oysters cost around $4-5 each, which sounds kind of expensive but they are generally larger than the ones at other places. The hot sauces provided with them are pretty good. Other dishes are quite hit or miss though. I thought the crab cakes, which while not lacking in crab content, were quite dry and size didnt quite match its price. Fish and chips were good and decent value. The clam chowder was okay too but expensive as well. Service was okay but we almost got charged for 2 extra oysters we werent served. It seemed to be because one type of oyster was out of stock and it was substituted without removing the out of stock one. Fortunately we took a photo when the dish came, which absolved us of it.
Fish Tacos are very delicious as are the Margaritas. A staple for Downtown Taco Tuesdays.
The food was good but took a long time because we had horrible service. We had a birthday dinner reservation yesterday. We had to get up and look for service multiple times for food and drinks. When the food came out, it was plopped in front of us and we were ignored again. Never checked on or any guidance to the oysters. My guess is the waiter wanted to go home and does not like his job. This is way too expensive of a place to not have service, or a good experience.
Awesome food, great service and the freshness of the dishes they served made the difference. The oysters were great, lobster rolls were yummy and also the ravioli. The Prosecco was not only light but had an amazing flavour. Highly recommended. Vegetarian options: Rice paper rolls, ravioli, mushroom bruschetta.
