Cactus Club Cafe Stephen Ave in Calgary

I never write reviews but I have to on this one. I have never had a better blackened chicken with potatoes as from this place. I kept going on to my daughter how good it was. Amazing! Will defanly order again.

Came in recently & had the pleasure of being served by Megan in the dining room. She was very attentive and personable, great experience overall!!

Probably just the time of year, but this location was absolutely packed and there were multiple companies hosting parties as well as personal parties on top of regular guests. Our table was beyond squished, if one of us needed to use the restroom they would have to back their chair out all the way and maybe ask a neighbouring table to move. Also had to cut my steak with T-rex arms. Food was great and our server was wonderful.

Ive dined at this restaurant numerous times and every time I order the Steak Frites, my steak always comes out more raw than I order. Ive even gone as far as ordering my steaks one level more done than I normally would so that my steak would be cooked right and they still serve my steak too raw. Ive ordered my steak medium rare 3 times only to have it come out rare 2 times. I then started ordering my steak medium so that it wouldnt be as raw. I did this about 3 times and for 2/3 times they cooked my steak medium rare and 1/3 times rare. I dont understand why they cannot cook a steak to the proper doneness. I am extremely disappointed with this restaurant and would likely not return if it wasnt for my office choosing this place. Aside from that, the staff have always been excellent and the drinks are amazing. I would have given this place a 5/5 if they could cook steaks properly

Came here with some friends for dinner tonight and the food and service were amazing!! Our server Jada was so genuine and so sweet. She made our experience so much better. My friends had never been and this was definitely a perfect first impression for them, we will definitely be back again soon!!

This location is always a vibe. Great place to go grab drinks and appi s but also great for a full meal.

We weren t even patrons of this location but just want to give the Hostess and Front Door Security guard on 11/7/2024 around 1030pm a huge shoutout. My wife and I are in town for a night and went for a late dinner, we were walking from another establishment past this location on our way to our hotel and a homeless individual was following us quite close and harassing us, so we popped in to just let the guy keep walking and leave us alone. The front doorman and hostess were very accommodating to our situation and even offered to walk us back to the hotel. This interaction inside was only a minute or two, but we just really wanted to let them know somehow how much we appreciated their compassion in the situation. Thank you!!!

I planned a surprise dinner for my sister in law and I seriously can t say enough good things! HUGE shoutout to Kallie! She was so helpful in setting the reservation up and making sure we all were taken care of! She went above and beyond and even made sure our table was decorated upon our arrival. She had an amazing birthday and everything was so perfect!

I wouldnt usually write a review for a place but this experience is one that I cannot believe happened and I wouldnt want someone to have to experience this either. In June, my friends and I were at Cactus Stephen Ave celebrating a graduation. My friend and I decided to share the carpaccio but let the server know that there could not be any dairy due to a dairy allergy. Everything was going great and it wasnt until my friend and I were around half way done our carpaccio that we noticed pieces of cheese on the plate. I was confused and decided to ask our server if what I was seeing on the meat was chunks of cheese. The server told us it was not cheese (the pieces at this point were small), and that if it were cheese it would be bigger chunks. Further into eating the carpaccio, I started to notice these big chunks of cheese coming from under the remaining pieces of meat. Due to already talking to the server, and because we are talking about an allergy here, I requested to speak to the manager that was on at the time. The manager let me know that because it was rang in as a preferrance, that they cannot really do anything about it. I expressed to her that this was not a preferrance, its a dairy allergy, one that I would hope would be taken seriously. The manager was argumentative about the difference between a preference and allergy, something I found completely unprofessional. Our carpaccio was eventually compted, but the overall experience was not one I would ever want to go through again, Ill probably just stick to other Cactus locations if need be.

Always a great experience at Cactus Stephen Ave. I feel Cactus Club in general sets the standard for service across the hospitality industry. Between this one and Crowfoot, I have never had a bad experience.

I was disappointed with service.. we asked the server to change the table for us she said there is no spot close to the window we told her there is one , she replied with unprofessional way if u want u can find one she let us unseated and change the table , in addition we ordered spaghetti portofino wasnt taste good compared to crowfoot location , one of the spoon was dirty and asked to change it , wasn t good experience honestly .. please consider hire professional servers

Good atmosphere. Very busy. Want to have fun,go here. Id recommend this for drinks and a bite. This place has dimmed lights and gets loud. Lots of young people <35 years.

DoorDash delivered a less than desirable meal. I order here at least once. Week and decided to call the restaurant. They not only made me a new meal but also at their expense had it delivered - I m really impressed !!!! Lauren went above and beyond for me and I am highly grateful

I come to this location for Stephanie! Ive come numerous times over the year and she never fails to be such a great host. Such a warm and welcoming person. Anytime I was ever unsure about trying something new, she went the extra mile to know my palette and let me know it was worth trying and what Id like. My friend and I visited Cactus Club a few weeks ago, and my experience with our host Stephanie has still stuck out in my mind! She was super kind, very personable and very professional. She knew the menu very well, and the cocktails she recommended to us were delicious. She made sure to check on us regularly, and we never had to wave her down for anything bc she kept our glasses full :) my friend accidentally broke a wine glass, and she was super kind about it, cleaned the mess up right away, and replaced her drink. I will definitely be coming back to Cactus Club, and would recommend Stephanie to others that attend as well. She s great!

I have been going to cactus for many many years, mainly going to any location other than the one downtown, to avoid the traffic and drive. However, after visiting once and having Stephanie as our server, I must say, I ve been changed. From now on I will be coming to Stephen ave only , simply for her and her amazing service. I don t think I can recall having better service ever. From her checking in, cracking jokes, being extremely attentive and accommodating, going above and beyond and putting herself in her tables shoes to give the best experience. I was in awe. Literally the best server I ve had.

When I made a reservation for a lounge area, Ill admit I expected a very different environment. Is there anywhere quiet in your restaurant?

You cant go wrong with Cactus Club. Great food, generous portions, reasonable prices. Fun, relaxed atmosphere, targetet more towards young adults with contemporary background music - great start for a night out with friends, for example. We were asked at the entrance whether we would like a table in the more quiet area, or in the more fun zone where the music is louder - its awesome that they give you this choice. Best Moscow Mule in town!

She made fantastic recommendations for food and drinks as the menu has changed since we last came and her witty jokes kept us all amused. I visited the downtown location today at 5:30 pm and had an extremely unpleasant experience with the two greeters. They displayed a lot of attitude and made my group feel uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. Neither of them greeted us, and their demeanor was rude and unfriendly. One greeter had long hair with a nose piercing, and the other appeared to be African Canadian. Both were unprofessional and made the entire experience uncomfortable. I strongly advise against visiting this location.

I am from BC and I was looking for a familiar restaurant to eat for dinner when I was in the area. Earlier in the day, after my car got broken into and having my laptop, passport, cash, and other personal items stolen, I was looking for a nice, modern, yet warm atmosphere to sit down, relax, and enjoy some well-cooked food. This cactus club location is clean and has one of the best atmospheres out of any location I have been to. The food quality and taste is on par and even goes above any of the locations Ive had in BC (including the main location in Coal Harbour). Most importantly, the service is exceptional. When I told my waitress about what had happened to me, she was the most kind and comforting person I had talked to. She had initially offered us a free drink and free dessert, and later-on in the evening, this cactus club location went ahead and gave us our $100 meal FREE OF CHARGE. The people and food at this cactus club is truly exceptional and I highly highly highly recommend going here if youre looking for an exceptional dinner in the downtown calgary area. I will definitely be coming back and recommending this location to everyone I know!

Had a hostess Morgan, did a wonderful job, the peppercorn steak was one of the softest steaks i have ever eaten.

This space is a grace in terms of its food, atmosphere and vibrant neighborhood. A perfect place to loosen, enjoy and almost everything on the menu is worth a shot!

Food is delicious, the ambience is lovely, and the service was great. I highly recommend the beef carpaccio - it was amazing! The millionaire steak melts in your mouth and the kale salad is lovely. Truffle fries and butternut squash + prawn ravioli is a must try as well! Key lime pie was scrumptious and the cappuccinos were very smooth.

When yesterday was treated horribly by servers my first server, I could not hear what she said three times so she passed me onto another server which brought my boyfriends food first and took an hour to bring my food. At least they took that off the bill was definitely off the server at the end. When I payed in cash she said I love cash anything I can hide from the government anyhow I just felt like that comment was completely inappropriate will never go to this location again. definitely feel like it was discrimination so if you have tattoos or anything like that, I would not recommend this location

Excellent food, very well prepared. I enjoyed a Ceviche not as the original Peruvian one, but it was plenty of flavor, really good. As second dish, I had a Butternut Squah Ravioli with Prawns, this one was really delicious. Cingratulations to the chef.

Came here on a Friday for lunch with some old ex-colleagues. It was quite busy inside but since it was so nice outside we elected to sit on their patio. Which was a good thing too because it was so loud inside that I think it would have been hard to hold a conversation. This location is on Stephen Avenue walk and sitting on the patio allows you to do some people watching. I had a root beer and a Crispy Chicken Sandwich with fries. OMG, the food was so good. One of the best chicken sandwiches I had. Our waitress Kaily was awesome - friendly, attentive, and efficient. I dont usually eat at Cactus Club but I think I will come to this location again.

Great evening out with friends. Love that wine is half price on Wednesdays. Makes a night out affordable. Service was excellent, food was delicious. We will return.

We just celebrated our 19th Wedding Anniversary at the Stephen Ave location. The entire staff went above and beyond to make our night special. Tyrone was the best server weve ever had. The food and drinks we amazing. Weve never had a better dining experience. THANK YOU

Really great restaurant in Calgary for food/cocktails. Tenders with truffle fries were amazing. Crispy tofu bowl also excellent & the tacos too. Thoroughly recommend for lunch/dinner if walking through Calgarys downtown area. Vegetarian options: Tofu bowl, some pastas, some salads.

Went for a girls birthday dinner last night and had the best experience. Bailey went above and beyond to take care of us!!! We were a pain moving tables in and out and she was amazing. The food was awesome and she even had the kitchen write messages on the desserts. She was awesome, and the food was as always fantastic.

Waitresses switched after we made orders. Then they started forgetting our drinks, food and bringing wrong orders.

The care provided to my handicapped mother-in-law was excellent. The follow-up regarding my reservation was amazing. Despite the restaurant being very crowded, our order was dispatched quickly. As for my dish, the Dijon Salmon was delicious!

A couple days ago I was came into Cactus Club. I had a great time and the food was fantastic, I loved the chicken with the mushrooms. Our server was very attentive but honestly the manager Kaley made the night for us. She was personable while maintaining a very professional demeanor. Another fun time out at a great restaurant.

If not for the amazing drinks, go for the amazing people! Taryn was our bartender and her service was excellent. We came in for my birthday last night and she was so kind and so quick. She carried herself so well behind that bar and her energy carried through to all her other guests. 11/10, would recommend Taryn!!!

Went in tonight and service was excellent, I forget my servers name but it started with a B, she was in the lounge at night. Food and drinks were all amazing. I went in twice on two back to back dates and she read the vibe and didn t blow my cover at all! She was so fun and sweet, I d love to know her name so I can ask for her next time. Afterwards I was waiting for a cab so the friendly security guard called me one and I chatted with the very friendly hosts for a bit. Everyone was amazing!! P.S. If she s wondering, first date was good, second was bad.

June 2024 Nothing but excellent food options at the cactus club! Good service and great atmosphere. I dont know about the other locations, but the downtown location is fantastic so far. Id definitely visit again. I went for a birthday party & having seating on both the inside & outside was great! ---------------------------------------- July 2023 Great place to go for any occasion. Amazing yummy food. Literally, everything on the menu is soooo good. The atmosphere is wonderful too, no matter where you sit. Parking: Its downtown, so parking is not easy on a busy Friday or Saturday night.

I came in to have a bite on my way home. Observed many high tables available and thought great. Asked the young lady who took my number and name and she said that is not a problem then I was escorted to a table in the open in Stephen Ave in the wind and was told by the young gal we don t do high tables for one. So after sitting down for less than a minute I left and came to my regular Cactus Club and I m on the patio on a high table. Was extremely disappointed.

We showed up 5 minutes early for a 1pm reservation on a Tuesday. We were told we had to wait 30 minutes for our table. We ended up being seated at 145pm. The hostesses and mananger did nothing to ask patrons to free up tables after having paid. Its a shame because in my memory this CC was great... not so much the case today.

I m honestly disappointed over our service tonight, I was super excited to come and try new foods and have a nice relaxing dinner. Our food and drinks were delicious and hit the spot; but our service was lacking. We received little to no quality checks and they were far and few in between, we had empty water glasses; which in this current heat was a downer. Was not expecting to receive such poor service from somewhere with a reputation of good food and service. It took us 10 minutes to get our bill while I watched our server standing at the service well on the bar chatting. I m grateful for how much we liked our food and what we had overall ordered; but our service really put the nail in the coffin for a disappointing evening.

The first time I was at the Cactus Club on Stephen Ave. was 2022, the food was amazing and i have been wanting to come back. I booked lunch knowing that the menu had a great variety of food including vegetarian dishes. Everyone i our group was very happy with everything and we are coming back next week. Great job!! It is very nice place in downtown. All prices of food are reasonable. My family visited here to see Calgary downtown after staying Canmore town. I recommend my favourite food, tuna poke bowl like Korean mixed rice.

This place is just my go to. Service food and ambience are all top notch and always consistent.

I visited Cactus Club last night and informed our server, Marci, that my food wasnt prepared correctly the last time I was here and it was cold. She ensured me that it wouldnt be cold this time. Marci provided exceptional service, going above and beyond to be kind and easy to communicate with. Hosted a celebratory lunch with colleagues, friends and family in May. Nicole, one of the managers, was an absolute pleasure to coordinate and plan with. She provided me with options with great flexibility and was very responsive and professional. On the day of the event, the whole staff took exceptional care of our party. The food and atmosphere and overall service was phenomenal. I will definitely be hosting more events here.

Twice we tried to get seated when it wasnt busy and we were put into some line up along the wall segregated with spacers and couldnt understand why. This happened on 2 sepereate days consecutively. Waited for 5 minutes then left.. Maybe try again next time but it just wasnt as good as other cactus club locations unfortunately.

I have tried the vegan tofu lettuce wraps everywhere I go but no one compares to cactus! The food was amazing and our server was outstanding.

Food is overpriced for the quality and variety they have. Wine collection is good. Service is greedy of tips. They are VERY nice when you have to pay the BILL. Its not really worth it. Earls on the same street, 50 mtrs away, has much more to offer.

Our server (curly dark hair, taller, on the patio, 7pm) seemed very absentminded and failed to perform basic serving duties. Not very accommodating, forgot to ring in a drink, did not offer refills, did not offer desserts, performed a very bare quality check. Overall did not seem like the server wanted to be there let alone be a server. Easily missing out on $50-100 of additional sales and being absent from the front as it was difficult to find her at times, while her section was not busy. When we did get the bill, seemed more interested in the table and what we were tipping rather than the experience of the table. Food was excellent, great taste and quality on every dish.

Excellent food for lunch and dinner. The service is generally solid, however weve had one time where the server was preoccupied with some other guests. Love the atmopshere, lively and fun.

As always, the food at cactus was delicious and consistent, the service was a bit slow but it s a busy location so that was to be somewhat expected. What really astounded me is the bathroom. Normally I wouldn t write a negative review based off the state of a bathroom but quite frankly I felt like I was using a public washroom outside a safe consumption site. The floors seem to have never been cleaned, with grime and filth caked on, and the smell was akin to a dumpster full of baby diapers. I ve been to plenty of Cactus locations and never encountered this so both myself and others in my party were really put off. Wonder what the kitchen looks like?

Always my favourite dinner spot when I come to Calgary. Atmosphere is private, low lit, comfortable. Everything on the menu tastes amazing, local with a great price. I just wanted to give a shoutout to our waitress Bailey! My Fiancée is 6 weeks pregnant and she made sure the drink was virgin, food was on separate plates and asked her if she wanted a piece of cheesecake on the house. My fiancée cried happy tears, that was so beautiful!

We made an appointment ahead of time, and we got seated almost immediately. Our server was great, and the service was great, too. Environment was relaxing and music soothing, just how I love it. The meals were great as well, although I didnt know mine would be a cold meal (I love hot meals). Its a place Id definitely go back to.

Mackenzie was fantastic! Our food was delicious and came out so quickly. You have to try the butternut squash ravioli. It was so flavourful with the truffle. The Feenie burger was delicious. Juicy, lots of toppings, good sauce! Going there on a warm day, make sure to get a frozen Cosmo and Bellini! You will not be disappointed :)

The food was excellent as always, and its a favorite to visit for work lunches. Definitely would recommend checking it out.

Kiarra is amazing. My friend, who is in a wheelchair, heard a joke from her and he miraculously stood up while clapping for her. All jokes aside, she did an outstanding job of serving us and was attentive to our food preference and diets, and checked in on our food quality.

I arrived at Cactus Club (Stephen Avenue) on bicycle mid afternoon craving a cold beer and so needing to use the washroom however, I did not have a bike lock. No problem and unlike the restaurant I stopped at before Cactus Club, the very kind hostess watched over my bicycle and once done, seated me at a table in which I could have my bicycle beside me... A huge shout out to the hostess and the waitress. Excellent service even though it was very busy (Mothers Day) and the food was absolutely delicious! Thank you so, so much for being so kind and accommodating

Went to the Crowfoot location recently and was a little disappointed. Yesterday we went to Stephen Ave which is my new favourite location, and it was way better. My server Melissa was so great and friendly. She gave the best recommendations, accommodated all our little requests, and made sure everything was perfect! 10/10, would go back just to sit in her section!

My sever was Lauren and she was absolutely amazing she was the best sever in the whole world. Couldn t have named a better sever on the planet. Would 100/10 recommend

Cactus club Please put a vegetarian butternut squash ravioli option on your menu. In person, the price/quantity is adjusted to make the dish vegetarian. On DoorDash, customers can leave instructions but are essentially being ripped off when they make it vegetarian. I was shocked to see that I was given three ravioli (with no meat or seafood) for $19 (they were also overcooked, but that s another thing). Either the price or the quantity should change when it s made vegetarian, as it does when you are in the restaurant itself. It s bizarre to have a different experience on the app and made me pretty disappointed and hesitant to order from here in the future. If all else fails, please add a vegetarian option for this on DoorDash so that customers can get a fair value for their meal. Literally nobody would think 3 pieces of ravioli for $19 is acceptable.

We popped in here after a long flight all the way from Ireland and we were so glad we did! The food was absolutely amazing we were immediately planning our next visit. Would also like to give a special mention to the absolute angel servers - specifically Mackenzie and Kayleigh; they were so warm and made us feel so welcome and even went out of their way to give us recommendations and advice on our stay. I think we d fly all the way back just to come here - thank you for making our trip so special <3

I had a great time celebrating with my boyfriend and Simone was taking care of us! We had an absolute incredible time, she was attentive to us and checking in when we needed something. She is phenomenal!! Dietary restrictions: Orders were attended to with substitutions!

Came out for my girlfriends birthday and had a great time!! Food was quick and super good and our server William was awsome! He had great menu suggestions and made us feel very welcome! Vegetarian options: Had the avocado dip and loved it so much, dont be afraid to load your chip with the dip you get lots!!!

Popped in to meet up with a bro. Beer is good, non alcoholic ginger drink was good, appies were OK. Had way better wings else other places... sushi bites were OK. Service was great.

Here s. The. Thing. I ordered the poke bowl for take out because it s my favourite. But, the address is not 7th ave. It s on 8th so I had a hard time finding it. Also I thought they would include cutlery but they didn t. Maybe make this more noticeable on the website.

Cactus Cafe surpassed all expectations during my recent visit. The atmosphere was inviting, the food delicious, and the service impeccable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

Upon entering, my friend, and I wanted to sit in the bar area on the high chairs. My friend wanted to grab a booth which seem to be designed for three people, but the waitress did not want to put us there in case the group of three that showed up. In this case we got a booth in the restaurant section which in my opinion doesn t have the same vibe. in the restaurant section, we kind of felt like we were in the Baton Rouge restaurant. Which is OK but not really the vibe we were looking for. Service was good and quick. We had the carpaccio as a starter, which was delicious. The drinks were also good.. I felt the peppercorn steak was not as tender as I would ve liked. Overall, it was a good experience however, with many other restaurants to choose from, we ll come back in a little while.

Food has good quality with big enough portions. Having a reservation is strongly recommended. Even with a reservation we had to wait for 5 minutes. Wheelchair accessibility: Located on the main floor with entrance from the street; wheelchair accessible, though the space inside is very packed and the pathways are narrow.

Lauryn, Lucy and Jade were the absolute best at making us feel comfortable and welcome. They were all happy and prompt! Service was 110% from beginning to end. Food was freaking awesome! We had the cheddar burger with the truffle fries and avocado dip.

Had a Peppercorn Steak and Iced tea ... bumped to a 12 oz ... dissapointed in the Peppercorn sauce. Mashed potatoe with a miniscule sprinkling of chives and seasonal vegetables ... Asparagus. Steak, medium rare, was done right. The only saving grace about the meal ... In terms of cost, would expect a generous amount of peppercorns in the sauce ( which was not thick ) One thing about Chefs like Gordon Ramsey, is they have raised our awareness of enjoying a great meal and unfortunately this was not. Sorry, saying it like it is.

Everything about this place is amazing! The food, the customer service and how clean it is. Every time I think about eating here my mouth waters every time. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are delicious I find it hard to find places that have actually good vegetarian options but cactus club has the best selection Kid-friendliness: My Kids love eating here and they love the servers that bring my kids to smile every time we visit.

Cactus never disappoints. 100/100

Nothing special. The food was okay and the vibe was alright but there are better places in Calgary too go.
