Was there for visa infinite priced fix menu. The welcome drink was a real nice touch. Courtney gave good service. But I was really looking forward to the Hokkaido scallop and I've been to japan and this dish was the worst dish. Small and not great value. Beets are ok but lentil chips are dry. Pork cheek was meaty but celeriac is tough. Chicken is dry but Brussel sprouts were so undercooked! Fish was small portion but pommes was tasty. Dessert was good. The table next to us had someone with a flashing camera and light kept reflecting off the windows-annoying! Overall, this visa restaurant was most reasonable out of the options but my first experience here was not impressive.

Had the absolute pleasure of dining in for the Deane House’s afternoon tea experience. The staff were friendly, very polite, and competent, great customer service! The tea and food options were delicious, absolutely gorgeous presentation from the variety of treats to the dishware itself. I elected to get the flowery earl grey which was great paired with the sugar and cream. The savouries were all tasty, especially the beef tartlet. I was really impressed by the soup and grilled cheese combo, I don’t often see a soup&sandwich pairing on afternoon tea menus. I found the sweets plate a little underwhelming in comparison to the flavours of the savouries but everything was quite yummy overall and lots of variety. I did not like the toasted rice macaron and would probably ask for a substitution for that next time. The apricot scone paired with real clotted cream and delicious strawberry jam was very enjoyable and I think I’ll be craving that again very soon!

A restaurant with a great atmosphere, offering views of the river and a beautiful garden. It has its own parking lot. The service is good, and most of the food is delicious. Unfortunately, the flat iron steak had a burnt exterior, which left a bitter taste in the meat. Additionally, the chicken fingers and French fries were unevenly cooked, with both burnt and soft parts, as shown in the pictures, making the chicken dry, hard, and flavorless.

I visited this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a Wednesday, and they had a live jazz band playing in the garden, which I really enjoyed. The service was great—very welcoming and attentive. Since it was a bit chilly outside, the staff turned on the gas heaters and provided us with blankets. The menu featured fresh, authentic ingredients, and the cocktails were beautifully presented. It's not a cheap place, but I'll definitely be coming back.

Food was absolutely amazing and it’s the cutest place ever. The ginger beets were out of this world good night be the best beets I’ve ever had and the gnocchi was so light and refreshing even though it was cream based. The cocktails were also very lovely. I would love it even more if it wasn’t so hot in there. The coolest place was the bathroom haha we escaped the heat a few times there. 😅

We recently held our company Christmas party at this restaurant, and while the food and ambiance were enjoyable, we had an issue with unexpected charges that left us disappointed. We initially confirmed a reservation for 19 people, but only 13 attended. Upon arrival, we were told we would still be charged for all 19, despite no mention of this policy in our contract or any prior communication. This unexpected charge felt unfair and was poorly handled, as we were only informed on the day of the event. While we understand that restaurants plan based on confirmed numbers, clear communication about such policies is essential, especially for group events. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling undervalued as customers. We hope the restaurant improves transparency to prevent such situations for future patrons.

My boyfriend and I usually pick a new restaurant in Calgary every Christmas season to try - this year we decided on the Chefs Tasting Menu at the Deane House. Despite the many good reviews, we are totally shocked at how bad the food was. Every course was bland and the main course was chicken, carrots and previously frozen peas.... bizarre. The pork belly was a sad piece of bacon and it was all just very underwhelming...we went with the wine pairing and for $110, we could have just gotten a nice bottle of wine. They used cheap wines at small pours. Our bill was $265 before the tip - not worth it at all. I mentioned to the waitress our disappointment and she got snappy with me! The whole thing was very absurd and we will never return here again. I highly suggest everyone avoid this place as well - go anywhere else even a chain such as Earls/Cactus Club and you will get a better bang for your buck. This might actually be one of the worst food experiences we have had to date in Calgary and we have tried almost every restaurant available.

We recently went for dinner for a work event. We did the chefs menu, which for anyone who has done before knows the portion sizes are very small, (except dessert which was huge). All good tasted great, drink service was slow, but the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very quaint hey not crowded. Perfect cozy place in the winter!

Second visit for afternoon tea this year on November 17. Service, staff and location excellent! However, the food was a bit disappointing. Afternoon tea here was more about presentation. Scones were dry and flavours of savouries and sweets were somewhat underwhelming. However, the interesting inclusion of a cup of soup and grilled cheese was very delicious. This is not a traditional British afternoon tea with no traditional finger sandwiches and British cakes. However the staff and venue are fantastic - as was the soup and sandwich.

My Daughter booked her Bridesmaids high tea celebration here for yesterday. The house, special room and ambiance are beautiful, including the table setting. Our family have been to many high teas and unfortunately found this one disappointing, savoury offering portions were very small, bread dried out and flavours mediocre. The sweets platter was the same, very underwhelming. Our server was delightful and attentive, but it seems that the high tea quality is not a priority.

DO NOT GO HERE FOR AFTERNOON TEA. Service was slow had to wait at least 20 minutes just to get our table we reserved. Took them long to get the small treats out that are all the same and disappointment. BREAD EVEN on savoury menu for the tea was yesterdays and not fresh. TEA TASTES LIGHT like Walmart bought tea packages, you ll finish it by the time they bring out few pastries out. VERY slow and NOT worth it. Go elsewhere, will not come back.

We took in the dinner service during Canada long weekend. We got the impression that staffing might have been an issue as staff mentioned that werent performing in their usual roles. Cocktails were fantastic and we benefited from expert wine advice. (Our wait staff had a special interest and expertise in wines.) Oysters and mussels were fresh, although it was a bit odd to get a single small piece of toast to accompany a giant bowl of mussels (which were clearly meant to share). We experienced a number of delays getting our order in and receiving the entrees after the appetizer (there was a about an hour gap). The sablefish and halibut dishes were excellent. The bison striploin was plated beautifully and the flavors were fun, however the dish arrived very cold :o. Thats actually the first time weve ever experienced that (at any restaurant). After the hour wait we elected to just forge ahead. Dessert was a bit of a mixed bag. The flat white was delicious, but it was garnished with what looked like a large sheet of candy wafer. Thankfully the wait staff warned us that it wasnt actually edible (we tried for fun and it was similar to plastic). It wasnt clear if it was failed candy wafer or if someone new made a poor selection for artistic garnish. The crepe cake was a neat idea. However each crepe was already quite thick, and the end result was like eating a dense pancake, which in my opinion defeats the purpose of a crepe. Overall, we were pleased that all the staff were so friendly, and did appear to be trying their very best. The experience was marred by a lot of issues from the kitchen and a slow experience. It definitely wasnt a bad experience, but fell short of our expectations at the price point.

As a birthday tradition my friend and I take each other for afternoon tea, typically at the Fairmont Banff Springs. We thought we d try local this year and were mildly disappointed with our experience. The location is beautiful and the garden very lovely, but the room was unpleasantly warm which makes drinking hot tea far less enjoyable when you re sweating. There was also a table with a bunch of children and so much kid-stuff I thought I walked into a kindergarten classroom. It made the room extra loud. When the tea arrived we quickly found out my friend s teacup had a giant crack in it and leaked tea everywhere until she could flag our server down for a replacement. We also had to ask for a plate to put our tea bags so the tea didn t over-steep and turn bitter. The teas were both really nice though! The savory food was all delicious, a good variety, and nicely presented. The scones were probably the best we ve had - great clotted cream and raspberry spread to go with them. The desserts were absolutely adorable - they were garden/bug themed and truly so cute. However, the variety in taste was not there - one of them was a caterpillar marshmallow thing with no flavor at all. If you like macarons, then you d love these desserts, if not, you ll be disappointed. We also had to hoover them down because we were informed we had a half hour before a wedding reception was starting. The website states you get 2 hours at your table, and the wedding was starting at the 1.5hr mark. This could have been easily communicated when they called the previous day to confirm my reservation. Overall, not a terrible experience, but for the reputation and price we had higher expectations. While we may return for dinner sometime, we won t be back for afternoon tea.

The Deane House hosted the beginning of a bachelorette party for my best friend and all her girls. We had high tea in the garden room, and our server, Christian, and the event coordinator, Megan, made our experience unforgettable. They really went above and beyond to make it a special afternoon. What a quaint restaurant! We a Started with oysters - very fresh. Came with two dips, one was a jalapeño and the other Mignonette. I dipped in both and it was surprisingly tasty. Next had the bisque- it was creamy just rich enough. Generous portion of lobster. For mains we opted for the char and 5-oz steak. The skin of the char was crispy and meat was perfectly cooked. It came with beans, roe and potato balls. The steak was cooked to medium - juicy. Have to mention the triple cooked potatoes. For dessert - we opted for the crepe cake. Paired with espresso martini. Happy ending for a birthday dinner. Have to mention the staff. Professional and friendly. Special mention to our server, Katie. Treated us with the famous Canadian hospitality

I have dined here many times + attended functions. And every time is such a mixed bag. And for the price I do wish it was fully wonderful every time. I respect the focus on the localized-Canadian dishes and I like that there is always something new on the menu and that s part of the culture and the fun risk of trying something new. And though everything was edible and technically ok, the quiche kind of blah and the ham on the Eggs Benedict was very fatty. The dessert featuring rhubarb was so fun and delicious though. Our server was super kind + attentive. Coffee was lovely. But what disappointed me most. Was when I walked in for my reservation. I was barely greeted by the hostess and a completely blank expression from the waiter chatting with her. In fact, I believe I said hello brightly and kindly first. It wasn t very welcoming or warm. This first interaction is what prompted my review. I felt a little like an imposter. And then towards the end of our stay. The same host took our umbrella away for the new table of people to be more shaded. Leaving us in full sun. It felt inconsiderate. I love the feel and history of this beautiful space. And I really wish that warmth and charm was reflected in their service and food more consistently. I don t see myself coming back.

Our Afternoon Tea experience was incredibly amazing when evaluating the food, service and permanent physical surroundings, but our party of three unanimously agreed on the restaurants major fail. The FOOD was extraordinary. It was served on vintage china, with each item a piece of art, unique and richly flavored. The cherry mimosas were excellent. The SERVICE was extraordinary. Caitlin, our hostess, and Tyler, our server, were professional, personable, respectful and attentive without being intrusive. The physical surroundings are beautiful. A gorgeous historic house with ambiance and character, surrounded by a stunning garden. All of this perfection was marred by the group of loud and inconsiderate women seated next to us. We could not have a comfortable conversation, despite having asked for a quiet location at the time we made the reservation. The restaurant chose to ignore their behavior and in so doing, failed to provide the upscale, classy, serene and elegant Afternoon Tea experience we expected, deserved and paid for.

We went for High Tea and were very disappointed. One scone per person is pretty measly. (Although they were delicious and the highlight of the offered menu.) The clotted cream tasted more like butter whipped with some cream and did not look or taste like real clotted cream. The small savory bites (literally a tiny bite) were very good but with only one per person the offerings were extremely small. The sandwiches were underwhelming and nothing we couldnt make at home. The desserts were very disappointing with most of the offerings being quite bland. Our server was okay but the staff does not have the level of professionalism required to charge these prices. They also just refill your teapot with hot water, rather than refreshing with a new tea bag. Very expensive for what is offered and Im not a big eater. Tea is supposed to be a lovely experience and this was not that.

We ordered wine it came quickly and the wine service was wonderful. We had told our server we d would like the tea tray with our wine to enjoy the savoury items. Then the tea later for the more traditional items. We finished our wine and still no tea tray. We had to ask when it might be coming out. It was over 30 minutes. We were told shortly. Meanwhile the tables on either side. One family of 8 and a deuce had both, been seated after us but were being served. A bit disappointing. When the tea arrived it was beautifully presented both physically and by our server who explained all that was presented. From the fresh scones with the clotted cream to the lamb tarts. All fantastic When we left my tea companion mentioned how lovely the tarts were. The manager asked us to wait and ran to present her with 4 to enjoy at home Overall. Lovely tea. I came to Dean house for afternoon tea in this time. I usually come for lunch use with my friends because I like the vibe of this building and the outside garden. Afternoon tea was a bit disappointing. Afternoon tea in Calgary in general is not great, Dean house afternoon tea came in two tiers with 1 scone per person. All the pastries looked cute like home made desserts. For the price, I d expect a bit more high end dessert or at least presentation to be nicer. Scone I got was rhubarb with rhubarb jam and clotted cream. The scone was delicious but not warm. Also one scone per person is a bit small compare to other afternoon tea so have had. Savory pastries were not bad but it did not have any smoke salmon or any meat, pâté etc, unless they weee going for vegetarian theme, it was a bit underwhelming. Overall, I love vibe of this place but afternoon tea was not what I would come back for.

Our server was not rude but certainly not friendly (especially compared to another server that was helping other tables). He was dismissive and appeared bothered by our request for one vegetarian meal as beef was being served, which was only known once we arrived and saw the tea menu. We had to request another server to have more hot water as he did not ask nor return until our dishes were to be cleared (another server brought out our food). When he brought the bill he hovered over me to immediately pay which was rude, I wasn t going anywhere and only needed to a moment to look over the bill. The food was definitely visually appealing and most tasted very nice. Perhaps a more friendly, attentive server would have led to a more positive experience. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian substitutions were available

I went with a group of 9 for Saturday brunch and thought Deane House was just ok. Our server was friendly and helpful, but it took a while for her to take our order. I got the Pancake Breakfast and to be quite frank, for $28, I was disappointed. While the server explained the Finnish pancakes were not a traditional fluffy pancake, I thought they were going to come with some fruit or whipped topping and it just came with a side of syrup. All in all, a mediocre experience.

Gorgeous venue and great service. Brunch is amazing here..but I will say, you get a bigger bang for your buck with certain brunch items over others. Pancake Breakfast and the Feta Quiche are incredible, but the other options (ex. french toast) feel like you are missing something (aka, youd probably need to order a side with it).

As a local Calgary wedding photographer, I can say this is one of my favourite wedding venues in the city! From a photographers perspective, the light, character and set up of the Deane house are all amazing to photograph. We dont have too many venues like this in Calgary which makes it unique. Not only is the location perfect (including all that parking!), but the venue and the staff are amazing to work with. Myself and my couple felt truly taken care of here. The food is amazing, the ambiance is stunning and you and your guests will love getting married here. www.breezephotos.ca

My sister took me for high tea for my birthday. It was both our first time at Deanes as well as the high tea experience. The atmosphere is cozy. Not extravagant or super fancy. Just a building with a history. The washrooms are located upstairs. Im glad the waitress kept coming by to make sure our hot water was refilled very often for the tea. However, I think high tea in general are way too overpriced for the amount of food you get. I dont think Ill ever try high tea again. Parking: Only 15 free parking spaces

Went there for an afternoon tea, the food was pretty average but I loved the location and vibe. I just hope portion size was bigger. They just gave us one bitters for $55 per person which is bit expensive and we even have to ask the server to serve us in proper 3 tiers tray instead of one plate as we were there for an experience and again had to ask the server for milk and sugar with our black tea after waiting for 15 minutes as they didn t give it us. They need work on food portion and service. It was a decent one time experience but I will not consider going back there.

First off, the service and setting were both great. The historical home and surrounding garden provide a unique dining experience. The service is fast, friendly, and efficient. No points off here. Unfortunately, our party was quite disappointed with the quality, and especially value, of the food and drinks. The daily cocktail was a spicy mezcal-rita , of which there seemed to be NO spice or mezcal, and tasted just like a Minute Maid limeade. The oysters were fresh and quite large, but were not shucked well, and contained a lot of pieces of shell and other debris. Between a few of the appetizers and mains, we were not impressed with the value and presentation at all. $60 for a TINY 5oz piece of beef tenderloin which was not cooked anywhere close to med-rare. The slice of chocolate whiskey cake for dessert was, again, very small. Lastly, capped off our dinner with a glass of scotch which must ve been poured out of an eye-dropper. Almost comically small. Given the abundance of other great dining options in Calgary, can t say we ll be visiting here again anytime soon.

We went for mothers day high tea. Honestly because of the price, the food was awful. For 5 the bill came to $420. And everyone was still hungry after. The selection of savory sandwiches and pastis were underwhelming and I found the bread was stale, the curry was bitter, and the rest had very little flavour. The tea was extremely weak. And service was SO slow. I waited about 15 mins for sugar for my tea and by the time it came my tea was luke warm. My daughter was crushed as she had saved up for this afternoon tea for me and she was near tears after we left as she said it was awful and wasted so much money. I told her it was fine and I would go home and make something for everyone to eat. Come on people! $420 and still hungry?! So so disappointed

December 21, 2023

Came for mothers day high tea, service was not great. They didnt bring spoons for the tea, the honey was watered down, they gave us 4 cubes of sugar for the table. The waitress barely came around. They got my mother the wrong tea, they forgot to get my 10 year old daughter the Jr sandwiches (thank goodness she liked a couple of the adult ones and they did charge only for jr) even after all of this we just made the best of it. Upon leaving my boyfriend texted to ask if we enjoyed our mimosas... I had no idea what he was talking about. I guess he had called to pay for mimosas for our table which we never received. Not impressed. Will not be back and will not recommend. Ps: sandwiches were ok but as some of the other reviews mentioned, it is a light snack lol

We had a brunch yesterday for our friend s birthday and it was a very bad experience. This was the second time for us at Deane House. We appreciate that you need to check on us if we need something, but not to the extent of overdoing it like every 10 minutes. If we need to order something or have any comment, we will definitely call for our server. But, it was so overwhelming to get out conversations cut again and again! The food! Scrambled eggs were undercooked and this was the main food we wanted our babies to have .. the pastries were good though. The cappuccino and the lattes were not the best. Lattes should have more milk than espresso which was not the case and we had to ask our server to fix that. All in all the experience wasn t good especially for our Birthday friend. We felt super rushed, pushed to order and leave ASAP. Although it is clearly mentioned in the reservation confirmation that a party of 5+ can stay up to 3 hours, we were 6 and we barely spent an hour and a half (11:33AM - 13:10 PM) and were rushed to leave! the server even brought the bill without us asking for it!! extremely unprofessional.

TLDR: got food poisoning from the meat at dinner, great service, and gluten free options are excellent. Would also recommend the high tea, really well done and nice tea selection. My family and I have gone here twice now. Once for high tea, the other for dinner. The high tea was amazing, the best we ve had in Alberta and their gluten free options were tasty and did not taste processed at all. The reason for the one star review is for the dinner. Two of us had the lam rib appetizer and after dinner we both felt very sick. The dinner food was not worth the price and did not taste good. The spices and ingredients they use are good and well prepared, however the cooking and preparation of the meat is awful. It was a very disappointing experience after having such a great high tea experience. The service has always been exceptional and I really love the atmosphere as well. The restaurant is in a beautiful four square home. It is too bad that I have to give a one star because of the food poisoning and overall dinner preparation. I would not recommend dining here at all, unless you go for high tea, and then I think you would find yourself having a 5-star experience. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options for dinner and high tea are really good, the GF sandwiches are tasty and the chefs can be very creative.

Another wonderful meal at Deane House We popped in for the 3-5 Happy Hour. WE had 2 appetizers and a lunch entrée item The Red Lentil Hummus is sooo good, it is a must try Our server (Taylor) was wonderful), terrific service ethic. I follow a low salt diet. Taylor relayed this to the kitchen and they made several alterations for us. On of them was to substitute their house-made rice crackers for the hard cracker that comes with the humus the rice crackers were delicious, try them with the hummus. The front of the house staff are so gracious. Thank you, Ricardo, for the bonus pour of pinot-grigio New fall menu, another wonderful evening at Deane House! We dine at Deane House every couple of months and were there for dinner this week. They changed the menu for fall and there are a number of new items. We wanted to try as many new things as we could so we had four starters. We both had the masala mussels; delicious, a real rich taste without overpowering and the mussels were some the plumpest I have ever had like they were hand picked. And the frites, as always, the best matchstick fries that mussels demand. I really like the selection of wines by the glass (we tried 4 different wines), full marks for the variety, quality and price range. The sun was just setting on a clear night and the city view from the veranda was like a picture postcard. Service at Deane House is just simply the best. We were served by Craig and Katy, they set the stage and put you right at ease. Everything in this restaurant just flows, tranquil and professional all the time Thank you DH staff / Laura & Randy

Unfortunately, the food portions are rather small and completely missing any starch. My partner and I had two different fish mains. Both were a small piece of pan seared fish with a small portion of vegetables and sauce. No starch (rice, potato, pasta) accompanied either plate. We also had oysters to start as it was their special that day. We had several that were pourly shucked with the meat still being attached to the shell and lose bits of shell among the meat. It would be okay to share, but was too one note for me to eat the whole thing. The chicken was delish. It was a large enough portion that I didnt need an appy. I would order this again. * Underwhelmed and disappointed * I had been to Deane House in 2019 and loved it. The atmosphere, the food quality and portions, and the service all stood out. However, it felt like a completely different restaurant this time around. I d like to caveat that our server was fantastic and clearly excellent at her job, however, there was two servers for the whole restaurant. Our server clearly had too big of a section and things slipped up and wait times were very very long. The (assumed) manager was not assisting and seemed more to be doing odd jobs behind the bar instead of supporting the staff. The appetizers were good, but again, not the quality it used to be. The most disappointing part of the evening was the ONLY vegetarian main, the Quinoa and potato roasti. For 32 dollars, you got an incredibly thin slice of quinoa stuck together with potato (had no seasoning and without the sauce was like eating dry quinoa). It had some stewed peppers under it and two small bok choi pieces. It was smaller than one of our appetizers and had no nutritional value for a vegetarian. Lastly, I understand that some bugs are uncontrollable, but there were black flies everywhere. To the point where one went for a swim in my drink and it had to be replaced. I won t be returning sadly, because the location is great. *note: we did complain about the mains and no action was taken.*

After correcting, they didn t check on us again until we were pretty much done and made those with allergies feel really uncomfortable. They also had not given us enough of everything per person and told us the kitchen was out of it and offered no alternatives. For the price per person, it was a very disappointing service and experience for everyone unfortunately, especially since it was for a birthday.

The food and service was beyond amazing. Tantalizing for the tastebuds. A truly exquisite experience. Top 3 dining experiences of my life. The Chefs Tasting Menu was definitely worth it and each course excellently paired with wine. Each dish was unquie and like nothing I had ever had before. Hats off to the chef and menu designer. Wow!

We ate here for our anniversary, and were given a card hand-signed by staff (nice little gesture!). The food was outstanding. We had the Fogo Island Crab and Fresh Oysters as a starter (crab to die for!). For dinner we had the Ewe Nique Farms Chicken and Briggs Farm Bison. Both were incredible! Service was great too.

We made 6 reservations for afternoon high tea and truly the worst we ever had. Sandwiches were stale and hardly no filling in them. Sandwiches and sweets came first, then dried up scones and then tea. It took a long time to get served when we arrived and then priority was getting our table cleaned for the dinner crowd. Tea was served in one pot for 3 of us and we ran out of tea right away and waited a long while for refill. $55/pp not worth $5. Very disappointing
