Donna Mac is one of Calgary's favourite restaurants. Specializing in local producers we lovingly craft our comfort food with a modern twist.
Absolutely amazing place. Went there right after I proposed to my girlfriend for a celebration bottle of wine and some eats. They brought us out complimentary champagne, congratulated us a bunch and were amazing vibes to be around. Could not be happier about the atmosphere or the food. Thank you Donna Mac for sharing our special moment with us.
Had the eggplant and peppers ravioli for lunch. It was light and tasty for something more lean for lunch.
On top of the food and drinks being delicious - the owner went above and beyond for a couple that wanted to take engagement photos at their favourite date night restaurant. Jeff and everyone there were very accommodating and we had so much fun!
We visited today for brunch. We had never been before and were very excited about the experience. Our server, Danielle and manager Jeff were awesome. Danielle was friendly and knowledgeable and helped us with the menu. We enjoyed the brunch food options. They were so flavourful and delicious. The vibe is relaxed and energetic and we didn’t feel like there was a particular dress code, which was nice. We can’t wait to come back with friends. Thanks so much for the wonderful time.
This restaurant in Calgary is outstanding (by far my top choice). Both the food and service are top-notch—delicious and clean. The weekday menu is excellent, and the brunch is also fantastic. I highly recommend it. Christina is especially wonderful; she's always friendly and offers great recommendations.💗
Late review, but we came here for the first time when it wasn't busy. The waitress was very nice and personal, and the food was amazing. My favorite were the croquettes...they melted in your mouth! I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a high-quality meal.
My wife and I were invited to attend the annual Christmas party for Bison Historical Services, and they selected Donna Mac, which was an impeccable choice! Each year, they vet many restaurants, and we were delighted they chose this one. The food, service, and atmosphere were all terrific. We are sure to be back in the future to try out some of their other menu items. A wonderful and memorable evening thanks to the great people Bison Historical Services and Donna Mac!
Excellent food. We went there and decided to do family style with a group of 6 people. Food was excellent. Found the mac and cheese a little salty for my taste but everything else was superb. The restaurant atmosphere itself is unique and modern. A very trendy place for a dinner party with friends or date night.
thank you... for donning my mac
Great food, great service. Get the beef tartare.
Amazing restaurant. Great Food and Drinks. They have one hell of a great staff!!!!!
Great food and drink. A bit pricey. The Cherry Cola cocktail is EXCELLENT!!!!
I LOVE the breakfast sandwich. I always order it when I come here.
I really appreciated the vibe of this beautiful and delicious restaurant. I found the staff to be unpretentious. There was no credit card holds to make our reservation. Management was flexible as we had to make such adjustments to the reservation. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable not too much not too just right. Thanks again for being a beacon too what other restaurants could be. Keep up the good work
We were a group of 4 and decided to do family style share plates. Very impressed with everything, I dont think there was a single weak dish, but there were a few stand outs that truly wowed. The tagliatelle most of all, strongly recommend it, and the oyster mushroom Caesar. Would definitely come back again.
Outstanding find!! We enjoyed the entire experience, wish it had more clientele. The food especially the Endive salad and Pork Chop were the best I have had in a long time. Great drinks and the service was warm, gracious, timely without being intrusive. Recommend it highly. Food
Very affordable and delicious. And lovely staff as well.
I go for those amazing chicken burgers and Zatar fries.
We came here for lunch and we loved this place, the menu has changed a bit and it was really good. We ordered the following Perogies Grilled Zucchini Croquettes Ratatouille Ravioli Fried Chicken Sandwhich & Zaatar Fries Their creativity with flavor combinations of fresh locally sourced ingredients created really unique and delicious dishes. The presentation was nice using vintage plates for their main dishes. They actually had a plate that my grandparents had. Nostalgic for sure. This place has been open for 7 years roughly so, I finally got to go today but will for sure go back. The owner Jeff was so pleasant and welcoming, explained their dishes and his recommendations and brought us Croquettes on him. Friendly and great service to boot. The fried chicken sandwhich was so juicy and crispy the Ravioli was amazing with saffron butter, the Zucchini...Well that was an amazing side dish! Perogies is a must try. I also had a zero alcohol Prickly Pineapple. ( I can drink this all day)
Had a drink with a friend after work but will bring my friends back for dinner.
We ordered a lot of food for two people, so we tried a lot. Corn dogs for Stampede were fine, but just fine. The fried chicken sandwich was over cooked and disappointing. The Tuna Cruda was definitely good. The pasta with ratatouille was substituted without permission at $33 and was disappointing, nothing like ratatouille. Fries were great. Turkish eggs were nothing like actual Turkish eggs ( I have spent a lot of time in Turkey). Overall very disappointing. Beers were not well chilled. Cocktail was disappointing.
First time visiting. Waiting for an hour. People came 30-45 minutes after us and all served before us. NOT GOOD
I have no idea why I ve never been here before. Recommended by a friend and so glad I went. Cocktails awesome food awesome and Hannah our server was amazing with the recommendations. Great flavors all around. Pork chops. Yum! And the rice pudding was amazing. Tell your friends. Go. It s yummy!
This place is awesome! Loved the food, service and everything!
Jacob was a fantastic host for us, food was delicious too. Highly recommend.
good vibe! chicken was so crispy which is I love it and fries were so good as well. Recommend!
Top quality food. The contrast in flavors in every dish was exceptional. There were 3 of us and we shared the croquettes which are to die for and, The oyster mushroom Caesar salad that was good, though I would have preferred the lettuce to be a bit more crunchy. We also shared the miso cod and tagliatelli. My fav was the cod. The past has a beautiful kick to it, however, the flavor profiles in the cod were so fresh and crowd pleasing. Drinks were great. Best espresso martini in Calgary. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to our questions. Nothing was too much for them. Will definitely return. Parking: Street parking is free after 6pm Monday Friday. Otherwise paid parking lot opposite.
Great service and atmosphere, food was delicious but highly priced. Food is served in a shareable plates format with small servings.
We dined in for St Patrick s day brunch. Disappointed mostly with the service, but the food was also sub par. We asked for soft poached eggs on the Benny, which as you can see, they were not. Other than that the flavours on the dish were good. The fish burger that was recommended as the daily special was extremely disappointing. Under seasoned and very poor texture. Not as described at all. Service was beyond lacking. We had to ask the for more water as we were not checked on at all throughout the whole meal.
Always 10/10 experience
Great experience. The food was amazing and the service was quick and friendly. The open concept kitchen and bar is gorgeous. Way to go
I think this is one of the most underrated high quality restaurants in the city. I live out of town now and any time I come to Calgary we eat here. Brunch or dinner - I have truly never had anything on the menu that was anything short of dynamite. Ate there again last night and had the tamarind Brussel sprouts and tagliatelle with sausage in Alfredo. SO BOMB. The tagliatelle was perfectly balanced with unexpected flavours (like lemon). Yum! I went to bed thinking about it. The menu is always changing and even when favourites disappear I find new ones. They always have meticulous and amazing female chefs (at least any time I ve been there) and they are crushing it! The service is always top notch - attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff. It s a little higher price point but absolutely worth it for a date night, celebration, or just treating yourself.
I went there for brunch and the service was amazing the food was so good and we truly had a good time. I highly recommend this place for brunch.
Food was a little heavy handed with salt, but the flavors were pretty good. Service on the other hand was not great. Our server seemed to be in a rush to get us out of there, despite the restaurant being less than half full. One of our guests was running late and the server came over 3 times to ask if we were ready to order. Wed told them that wed wait for the last person the first two times, but caved the third time she came around due to the pressure. We finished our meal, and we were chatting- she came over and asked us if we wanted the bill. Which is fine. We complied, and she promptly brought them over immediately and without a second breath she followed with a machine. After the bill was paid, she stopped filling our waters and didnt bother checking on us. (I would have ordered another drink, if she had bothered to ask.) The experience left me feeling unwanted and rushed. Should probably train the servers a little bit more on courtesy and service skills.
This is a cozy brunch spot, I got eggs Benedict on potato latkes, it was divine Vegetarian options: Cauliflower bake was excellent
Was here for a staff event. Was a deadly spot Food
Nice simple place but with good use of natural light. The food is quite tasty, with a diversity of flavor profiles that give a special touch to their dishes. Customer service was also excellent.
The service was good - attentive and friendly. 3 stars because the venue looks like an upscale cafe plus charging $18 for a chicken sandwich without side is a bit expensive.
Excellent vibes, great service, unique cocktails, and outstanding food.
Had a lovely birthday brunch here. Would come again!
I wrote a salty review for Donna Macs a month ago and to my surprise the GM contacted me, we had a conversation about where the service went wrong and I was extended a gift card as an olive branch. I was really impressed with her professionalism on the phone and went back to give the restaurant a second chance. I took the same friend I went with initially and we sat in the same chairs. What a wonderful experience being bathed in attention! The menu had changed since our previous visit, attesting to the seasonal quality and creativity of the food. We shared the beef tartare and oyster mushroom caesar to start, so delicious. My friend had the burger again (she swears by it) and I had a fish dish in coconut curry and it slapped. Thank you for re-instilling my faith in Donna Macs. The way this GM responded to a mistake is a reflection of the excellence Donna Macs achieves.
Donna Mac is an absolute gem and I cant recommend it enough! Definitely get the chicken Sando, its huge and so freaking delicious. The fries with zaatar are also amaaazing. Their wine list is well curated and stocked with options for everyone from some international gems. Service is responsive, friendly, and full of good suggestions for food and drink pairings. I can tell everyone working there has great passion for what they do.
This was my 5th time at Donna Mac. Had lunch today, pasta and my son had chicken burger (fried chicken sandwich?). Food was delicious, and the service was very prompt and friendly, reasonable price and parking was very easy to find.Would highly recommend this place. !!
Food was okay. The Chicken sandwich was not my taste and needed to work on the sauce as the Gochujang might not be ideal. Plus, the chicken was quite dry and burnt. The croquettes were very good! Loved the sauce! Total bill was more than $80 (including tips).
Amazing Turkish eggs. Atmosphere is great. Will definitely come back.
went here for valentine s day and had the coursed menu and every single dish was amazing! my favourites were the caciocavallo caramelle & the sable fish main soo good! flavours were really well done & complimented each other. can t wait to come back & try their regular menu!
Went to this amazing place for brunch and absolutely loved it . It has a very nice and bright ambience . Staff are very helpful and friendly. We tried broccoli with tamarind sauce and peanuts and tuna crudo as starters and they were really well made . We also tried the french toast with buttermilk fried chicken and it was amazing !
I use to live a block away from there and would constantly walk by and it was always full of people so figured we would give it a try and we were not disappointed. Their drinks were well crafted and the food was very tasty. We ordered the bread and butter and the tartare to start. Their tartare tasted different than what you would expect but in the best way and it was topped with berries which I thought was a nice touch. For the mains we ended up getting the Agnolotti and the Stablefish which were amazing. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back.
Exemplary staff, exquisite food, extraordinary cocktails. I ve not felt as welcome or as satisfied by food or service in years. Knocked out of the park, still waiting for the ball to drop.
Food was Awesome, Wine was great ;), Andrew and Hannah were both awesome! Great night out!
We had brunch at Donna Mac. The atmosphere was very good. The food and services were great. I will come back for their home made pasta.
I have a problem. It all started when I was pregnant: my mom offered to bring me something home from her lunch date at DM, and I unenthusiastically agreed to a fried chicken sandwich. Well . It was SO good that I ordered another one for dinner that night - and again for lunch the next day(!!). So began my weekly habit of a fried chicken sandwich + DM greens, and ~10 months later I still can t get enough! The chicken breast is HUGE, crispy on the outside and oh-so-juicy on the inside. The hot sauce and house-made pickles are *chef s kiss* perfection. The pickled onion on the DM greens are something I never thought I could enjoy as much as I do. Have I ever dined in? With 2 very little kids - not yet. Have I ever ordered anything else on the menu? Nope - and I probably won t. I would be too sad to miss out on my favourite (unless I ordered a back-up, just in case ;) ). Thanks DM for being the bright light at the end of a nauseating first trimester and beyond - I couldn t have done it without you!
Great service and quality food at a reasonable price. Good overall dining spot!
Great experience. I hadn t heard of Donna Mac but was invited for brunch by my family. Walking up to the restaurant, it looked open and inviting especially with all of the windows. Walking in, I was pleasantly greeted even though the server was a little busy I knew I had her attention enough so that she could finish with the client she was already helping and she attended me directly after assisting the other patron. I don t think she felt rushed either, because it seemed her needs were met and the server moved on. I was seated promptly as she seemed to know exactly were my family was but I didn t feel like an annoyance even though I was about five minutes late for our reservation. Our table server was prompt with asking for my drink order and exposing the menu. She was polite and didn t rush me for my order. We had a few brief questions that were answered exactly which made our orders go through quicker. While waiting on our food we all commented on the decor of the restaurant. It s such a big and open space but they were still able to make it feel cozy and comfortable. There was a brunch rush going on but we weren t bothered by ambient noise and I felt like there was adequate enough that we didn t have to worry about eavesdropping. The food service was prompt and the plating was great. Each serving plate was different and retro and the food fit it well with the portions. I had the pirogies with pork belly and it was fantastic. Our table shared their house salad with fresh greens and mushrooms with a perfect amount of dressing on it. Unfortunately there were no leftovers because the food was portioned properly. We had enough to fill ourselves and maybe two more bites. I will be back for the service, food, ambiance.
Nice spot for brunch, had the Turkish eggs and what an interesting dish
Great food, even better service! Danielle, Jake, and Carter were wonderful to me and my friends the other night. The food was top notch and the friendly service was exceptional. Thanks for making my expirience one to remember!
Drink (long island) - 8/10, not much of a cocktail drinker but this was refreshing and not too sweet. Croquettes - 9/10, crunchy exterior, smooth interior, accompanying sauce makes it one of the best appys. Rotating bread - 8.3/10, last time I came I enjoyed the bread rotation they had more. Depends on what bread they have that day Zaatar fries - 9/10, crispy fries that are still soft on the inside. Wish they had more sauce. Large amount of fries for the price Salad - didnt eat. great portions, pictures dont do it justice, the salad was piled high. Steak - 7.9/10, steak was well cooked, puree and toppings paired well with the steak. Didnt like that the caramelized onions were whole in this dish, quite sweet. Small portion of steak for the price. Mac and cheese - 7.5/10, pasta was cooked well, did not like the excess of the crunchy topping. Cookie with cream - 8.5/10, soft and sweet cookie and the cream helps cut some of the sweetness. Great end to the meal Service - 7.8/10, service was good, water was filled a couple times throughout the night. Atmosphere - 9/10, comfortable seating, interior design is nice (plants, colour palette, open kitchen design), lighting could be just a tad brighter but thats more of a personal preference. On the rare occasion there are times where it can get loud and you have to somewhat shout to be able to hold a conversation.
Great place for a slightly upscale dinner. Imaginative food which was very tasty and super friendly and attentive staff. Well definitely go back! Vegetarian options: Many things on the menu are vegetarian or marked as adaptable to vegetarian Same with vegan options Dietary restrictions: We were asked when we ordered appies if there were any dietary restrictions. Also the menu was clearly marked for the gluten free items and adaptations. Parking: Perhaps we were just lucky, but there was free street parking right outside the restaurant
Average sums it up, food was nothing noteworthy, service again average, staff didnt have knowledge of the menu, and didnt offer much else other than bringing our food. Average Donna!
As always, THE BEST food! We shared the beet pastrami sandwich, perogies, & endive salad. The sandwich would not have been something Id normally choose but wow! At Donna Mac, every thing tastes 100x better than you could imagine....truly. And of course, the service is outstanding!
The food was great, pleasantly surprised. Portion sizes were good value for the price paid, a refreshing change from other restaurants weve been to the past few years.
Ive had dinner multiple times here and each time the experience is top notch. Sneaky snake winner is the cauliflower. How do you make cauliflower taste so darn good?? Love. And magic. Highly recommended.
We had an outstanding dinner last night with a group of 11 people. The food was outstanding and our hostess Cassie did an outstanding job selecting our Shared Plates for the group. I would highly recommend Donna Mac for a group dinner with friends or work colleagues. Thanks,
Great place! Ambiance is great and food and service too!
An enjoyable atmosphere with its light classy interior and vintage vibe. Soft 60 s music is playing in the background, and a simple one-page menu with various choices. Try the fried Cauliflower, the Brussels and especially the Six Layer Schnitzel.
This was my second visit to Donna Mac. It was so good the first time I had to bring my family back. The food is second to none. It is fun to watch the staff prep the food for tomorrow. I recommend a seat at the bar if you want to be entertained!!
Just awesome gotta eat here
A trendy restaurant with decent food. It was decent but it wasnt as good as I was expecting with the prices we were paying. The lack of a bike rack outside is also a disappointment, there are some nearby but the business should try to accommodate everyone.
Food was pricey but very good. Service was ok until it got busy and then when our meal was done we waited an age to get the bill. Regardless, good spot and would recommend.
Donna Mac is consistently delicious, no matter what I try. The servers and management are all absolutely lovely. I cant recommend it enough.
From Toronto, have to say I ve never had such an enjoyable experience at a cocktail bar.. Jack is really holding it down at the bar making killer cocktails and is very knowledgeable about cocktail history. Will be back again during our visit because of how great a time we had.
Appetizers were amazing, drinks were well made, entrees had absolutely no complaints. I felt the portion sizes were perfect. Overall very very happy with our visit. Our server Jack was great and put up with us incredibly well. Vegetarian options: Several veggie friendly options. Perogies were delicious. Kid-friendliness: They were happy to give a kid option for dinner which was fantastic. Saw a few kids in there.
I like
Wow the Tuna appetizer and perogy entree were delicious.
Service is always so good here. Love their happy hour menu and non alcholic choice. Try the chicken sandwich!
Great atmosphere, and service
The most amazing breakfast sandwich with this delicious dill biscuit. Fantastic service and atmosphere too.
We visited Donna Mac on Sun afternoon for brunch. I loved their interior, decor was so beautiful and elevated! I had Turkish eggs, it came with lemon yogurt sauce with lots of herb like dill, I liked it so much more than hollandaise sauce, it was fresh, light and delicious. The chick peas were also seasoned well and goes well with the yogurt sauce. Sourdough was chard nicely, it was delicious, I recommend if you are looking for something light as I was still hungry after eating it. I also tried fried chicken, it was crispy and heavily seasoned, borderline too salty but I enjoyed it. Carrot cake was also good, it came with beautiful sweet carrot chips with caramelized walnuts, cake was not too sweet and icing has saltiness to it, and it was beautifully presented on a cute plate! I personally am not a big fan of very moist cake and this cake was a bit too most, and it was too much icing to cake. It was $11 and I thought it was not worth the price. My friend had beet pastrami sandwich, I LOVED this sandwich, it had a lot of beets and a lot of flavors, 100% recommend! But I wish it came with some side, side fries are $7, the price is as same as appetizer item - Zaatar fries, I personally thought add on side items should be smaller potion and more affordable price, but it is just my personal opinion. One thing we felt like need an improvement was that the beet pastrami sandwich was not listed as vegetarian item and it also said ask for VEG meaning, ask for vegan option. We found it a bit confusing as we initially thought it was beef pastrami as it did not have vegetarian icon on the menu. Also our server did not come back after she delivered food, when there were only 2 other tables when we were eating. I loved their flavors, I d love to come back for dinner time!
Small servings and way too expensive when you look at how much food you re actually getting. However presentation is nice and food is decent.
Chose Donna Mac for dinner with a friend from out of town. The food was divine! The mac and cheese was a great portion size. Recommend the croquettes as well. Great service too! Will be back very soon!!
Delicious, the beet sandwich was amazing!! Loved the Buffalo cauliflower over a delicious pimento cheese! Food
I often come here for lunch as I work in the building. The food never disappoints and I have developed a few favorites over time. My current crush is the HD Salad with arugula, feta and an amazing vinaigrette. The atmosphere is bright and airy and Hannah, my favorite server is always such a delight.
Heat spot and great food. Burger was delicious.
Delicious food as always, reasonably priced for what you get and great service. Cant wait to bring the dog back for the patio!
I have never felt so out of place by staff at a restaurant before. You might be trendy but you are not very inclusive. I am almost 70 and my friend in her 50 s. We were made to feel unwelcome right from the get go. I guess we are not cool enough for your restaurant. I am totally flabbergasted by the rudeness of the staff. I really think the management needs to realize that all peoples should be welcomed. Won t likely be back.8
food was great, service wasn t. not a busy night but took us far too long to get our orders and have the servers check in on our drinks (40+ minutes, and a restaurant ~50% full at most).
Good
Experience was wonderful esp with our waitress being super friendly but had to wait almost an hour for our mains food was okay, not the greatest.
I was so excited to try Donna Mac after hearing so many positive reviews from food bloggers but I found it over priced and a bit pretentious. The staff was not welcoming but the restaurant is beautiful and clean. We ordered the hot chicken burger, zatar fries, coffee, and a zero proof cocktail. The food was okay but it s challenging to eat if you have food allergies and preferences. The mocktail was great but a bit overpriced for juice and sparkling water. A lot of ethnic ingredients are in their menu but no employees of colour in sight. I wish the menu was a bit more cohesive but was also very vegetarian friendly.
Place is great, Burger and fries were to the top, Service is really good. Food : 5/5
Bring back the doughnuts !! They were so good
Loved the Vietnamese crepe! Was super decadent, but that fish sauce caramel was really great!
A personal Calgary favourite. Their food is always delicious and they have some the friendliest staff. We usually dine in (which is great because their tables are really spacious and well laid-out) but we dined on their dog friendly patio for the first time and it was great. They have tall wood fences surrounding the outdoor seating area, which makes you feel less like you re eating on the sidewalk.
We came with a big group for an engagement celebration and had an amazing time! The only thing better then the food was our server! Andrew was absolutely amazing and I recommend you ask to be seated in his section if you come in! Amazing food, exceptional service. Would come here again. 10/10. Big thank you to Andrew he really made our night the best. Kid-friendliness: We had a baby with us and they were so accommodating especially for a nicer restaurant downtown.
Brought some industry friends from out of town here the other night. The gent serving us was fantastic, food was amazing, and we had a great time. Some items we re ordered they were so good. My wife and I have been here 3 times including this time and its always been outstanding. We usually have our 4 year old with us and theyre great with accommodations in that regard as well given its a very nice downtown restaurant. Go, you wont be disappointed!
Cosy place to get tasty comfort food. Decadent Mac and Cheese and the best perogies Ive ever had. They also serve Annex Root Beer (one of my favourites). So much more food to try for next time. The staff are also fantastic. Heads up that the portions are more gastronomy sized vs Canadian sized. Food
Great atmosphere, great service. I ordered a new menu item. Tomatoes with some yogurt with vanilla(?) and oil. . Not really appetizing. $18 for 8 cherry tomatoes. Weird. Also tried the Mac and cheese. Bland. I think sometimes chefs try to be creative when they should just stick to the tried and true flavour profiles.
Christina was a pleasure to have as a server, she was fast, accurate and fun and funny! Great Job Christina!
Superb restaurant! The food is amazing! Exceptional gluten-free meal. The carrot cake is the best I have ever eaten! Go for it! Dietary restrictions: Several gluten-free options. The carrot cake is exceptional!
The ambiance and the service were great. The cocktails were well made, however the food was disappointing. The Zaatar fries and the endive salad were the only stand outs. The other dishes that were ordered to share included: Croquettes, Pierogies (too doughy and bland), Bavette steak (very small portion for a steep price).
Great service and delicious food for pasta lovers
Perfect spot for brunch. What s more you can easily make a reservation via web site. Sooo good , so fresh ingredients and sooo yummy
Every bite of food was beyond delicious. The staff is super friendly, atmosphere was very relaxed for a nice chill Monday evening. 100% recommend
Was in the area and stopped here for brunch. Love the bright and airy atmosphere, and the food was delicious. We ordered the risotto and the Turkish eggs with our favourite being the risotto!
Their food is ok but overpriced and they recently changed their menu to family style which means they made their portions 20% large and charge 90% more per plate. The audacity of a restaurant charging almost 20 bucks for a burger, WITHOUT FRIES. I can t even. One positive, you can ALWAYS get a table last minute because no one really goes here. If you visit for brunch you re almost guaranteed to be the only table there.
Ordered the signature mac and cheese and it was over salted and disgusting Drinks were good.
This restaurant may fly under the radar because of location, but it s fantastic! Service was excellent and the food was flavorful. Good wine and cocktails selection too. They had a seasonal chips and dips appy to share, which was a big hit. Will definitely be back!
Nice Ambience, not a lot of options for food! Service could have been better. Had the Spaghettini and if I had to rate it, it would be 5/10 Food
Place was amazing. Good food, nice staff! Will definitely come back again!
Beautiful restaurant and excellent service! Pan fried trout was delicious!
Had the Turkish eggs for brunch and it was probably the best and most original brunch Ive had in a very long time. The food was so tasty and the service was great. My only gripe is that I wanted a decaf coffee but was told that their decaf coffee is not great by the server (LOL). I appreciated the honesty but also, please get a better decaf so some of us sad decaf drinkers can live our best placebo lives.
Good value for the price you pay. We had a good experience. Food and the wine were tasty and well priced. Our server was kind and honest. I found the support staff to be really attentive as well.
Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options and a listed option on many of the dishes that include meat to make it vegetarian. Food
the pirogies were excellent
Great restaurant! Food was fresh and flavourful, service was friendly and not pretentious, and comfortable seating. Really enjoyed the layout of the restaurant and relaxed ambiance. The Icelandic Cod was amazing and the cocktails very unique and delicious. Thanks Donna Mac for a wonderful evening!
A MUST STOP IN CALGARY. Such a memorable meal. Delicious + unique food with outstanding staff. Happy hour deals as well. Still thinking about this and wish I lived closer!
Donning mack
Above average food. Nothing wrong with the service but not outstanding. Great atmosphere. Would come back.
Parking was easy to find on the street. would absolutely recommend the carrot cake it was so good! The fried chicken burger was also very juicy and tasted great with the amazing sauce. Prices are also pretty decide for the experience and quality that you get here.
Definitely one of my most favourite places to eat in Calgary. The atmosphere is casual but sophisticated and put-together. The food is absolutely outstanding! You cant go wrong with anything on the menu, and dessert is a must--youd be crazy to pass it up!
loved our experience! came for happy hour which i highly recommend. lots of space, and they even had a high chair for a baby. will definitely be back Kid-friendliness: Had high chairs!
Cool spot for a minimalist bright and cheerful meal. Had brunch today. Service was attentive. Props to one of young chefs working today. He was super diligent and it was lovely watching him in his flow. The steak and eggs were delish! Perfect flavor profile. The Turkish eggs were good but could benefit from a couple of pearl onions to add some sweetness to the dish. Overall great experience and lovely neighborhood spot in the Beltline.
Solid food and drinks here at Donna Mac. Our server was recognizably new so I will give the benefit of the doubt on this night. We ordered three different appetizers for the table to share. The fried cauliflower was pretty good but not memorable. I am not sure how they make the sauce for the tuna crudo but it was something special. The croquettes were excellent and kept me thinking of them for days after. I had ordered the Mac burger as my entrée and I was slightly disappointed with my choice. Nothing about it really popped for me. I did have a bite of my friends chicken sandwich and it is definitely what I should have ordered. I also got to try the lamb kofta which had wonderful flavors throughout the dish. My wife had a pasta dish that was unfortunately very one note for me but she definitely enjoyed it. I know I would return just based on the drinks and appetizers but not somewhere I am rushing back to.
Feature fridays are always amazing
It was my first time trying Donna Mac, and Im disappointed to say it was a complete letdown. The food was ok (nothing to rave about). We later found out the head chef was not working that night. The service, however, was a complete failure. We were a table of 6, but for whatever reason, the table only had 5 settings on it. When we sat down, we asked for another setting. The waitress said ok. We wait, when she returned to ask for our drink order, we asked her again as my friend wanted a glass of water since everyone else had one. Again, she said yes and left. She returns with our drinks and to take our orders (still no setting or glass of water), we ask again, she said yes, of course. We wait. Our appetizers came out, and we asked again. She said yes and finally brought over the 6th setting and glass of water. This is probably half an hour by this point. During our entire time there, the waitress was extremely inattentive or would just disappear. Even when we were done and wanted to get the bill, we couldnt find her, so one of my friends went to the front to ask for our bill. Only after we had paid did she show up again. Also, on a side note, if you have coat check (especially during winter), have the host at the front offer it when the guest walks in. We were fully seated before we learned there was coat check, so we had to go back to the front to check our coats before settling in.
5 of us went for brunch here today and we all loved our food!
I had the pierogies. I am a huge pierogi snob. While the pierogies are not the traditional style, I was pleasantly surprised. They were terrific
Having been to Donna Mac s before and having a wonderful experience I had really high expectations for this second time. Unfortunately it seemed like a totally different restaurant. We came here for my birthday on a Tuesday night, it was not busy but our service was awful. We got our drinks and appetizers within the first twenty minutes, which were great. We then ordered our mains, and they just never came. In fact after an hour our server brought us the desert menu and asked if we still had room for anything else, which we then said we never got our mains. Instead of saying she forgot to put them through and just brushed it off and clearly rushed to put them through. It took another half an hour to get our food after that. The risotto was amazing, as well as the lamb kofka, but the kofka was laughably small, like 3 meat balls. I have had the pirogies here before as well, and they were not what I remember at all. It was four pirogies for $28, they were these interesting deconstructed flat ones that were not as good as they used to be. When I did ask our server what happened and why our food took so long she said something about a lot of orders getting in before ours and that it was backed up. It was just so clearly a lie and we all would have appreciated some honestly of saying it was missed. Given how she handled the situation and that the quality of the food was lower, yet more expensive, I don t know if I will be going back at all. I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The flavors were creative, the presentation was beautiful (too excited to eat for photos) and the atmosphere was light and sophisticated. Perfect for a group of 4-6 people to go to so you can order lots of dishes and really explore the menu. Personal group favorites were the perigeos, and the mini fried chicken sandwich.
First time at Donna Mac enjoying a family birthday celebration. The food was good, but Im not crazy about sharing plates of food, family style. We tried choosing vegan, but had to include a few vegetarian dishes, (which is why I just gave 4 stars). The service is excellent and the restaurant has a great vibe. I would love it if more dishes could be made vegan. Vegetarian options: They were good. I wish they could be made vegan.
10/10 for food, service, and atmosphere. Ill definitely be back soon
Great brunch with fabulous service.
Very limited menu
Pricey but worth checking out
We took our and son and his wife here to celebrate his university convocation. The restaurant was full and noisy when we arrived, but it had a good energy and ambience. Despite having reservations, we had to wait a few minutes at the bar for our table. Immediately we were offered complimentary bubbly while we waited. We soon were seated at our table and ordered cocktails and dinner. All the staff was friendly, prompt, and professional. Our meals were all superb! Each plate was well presented, delicious, and reasonably sized. As a chef myself, I appreciated the great selection of menu items, which I would consider avant-garde. Bravo Donna Mac - you guys have got it dialed in! I would highly recommend this place!
Only had drinks, however they were pretty great! Its a downtown Calgary cocktail bar and the prices reflect that. The space they have is pretty modern but cozy. Servers were all nice as well. Will be back to try the food.
Very good food and service
We had a great experience and enjoyed our food. We started with the Croquettes and Fried Cauliflower. These were the best part of the meal with great flavours. In terms of main courses, we had a few different dishes, most vegetarian options. We really enjoyed the perogies without the pork belly. While the flavour was excellent and the pork belly wasnt missed, we did struggle to feel the value was equivalent when the cost for the vegetarian option was the same as the full version. Others in our group enjoyed the beet pastrami and Mac Burger, both had great flavours and were enjoyed. The service during our visit was excellent and wed certainly recommend Donna Mac in the future. Vegetarian options: Lots of options for vegetarians, though some just take out the meat without reducing the price or adjusting the flavours of the dish.
Wonderful experience here! The food is so fresh and delicious. The beet pastrami sandwich is out of this world! So much flavor. The tomato salad was also overwhelming in a good way. I had basic expectations for this but it was much more. Their sour dough bread is perfect. Service was very attentive and the servers were knowledgeable and made good recommendations.
The food was excellent! It was only spoiled by one of our orders being slightly messed up (we asked for vegetarian pierogis and they gave us one with meat). However, they did rectify our order once we complained. The service itself was also a bit slow but our waiter was very pleasant and professional!
Excellent service, interesting and tasty menu, executed very well. Great spot!
Food was pretty good and their aioli fries were superb. Although the entrees did not have a lot to it, I would ve liked some more veggies with my sandwich, a decent experience overall. The decor is great and there is lots of space. The service was very attentive and I loved how clean everything was.
Creative menu. Delish cheese balls/croquettes . The beet pastrami is a must. Get it with the dough. 10/10 will come again
Awesome dinner experience at Donna Mac. Amazing mix of vegetarian and meat-lover dishes. Beet (root) pastrami sandwich was our favorite!
Have been wanting to try this place for a while as it looked great from the outside. Unfortunately our experience did not reflect the reviews here. We were there for weekend brunch and while the food was delicious, the service was subpar to say the least.
We had an excellent dinner and experience here! The Caesar salad is gorgeous! Enough for 2-3 people to share or as a stand alone dinner. We also shared several other items, which were excellent, including their in-house made sourdough bread which was exceptional! This also was some of the best service I ve ever had in calgary! All staff were attentive and smiling and just overall pleasant, especially our excellent server. Would recommend and will be returning for brunch!
Everything was incredible! From the atmosphere to the service. Our server was so awesome. Highly recommend croquettes and fried cauliflower. I ll definitely be returning.
Great food and staff.
Super tasty food! The mains don t come with sides but the portions were very reasonable. The risotto and chicken burger were incredible - largest piece of chicken on a burger I have seen! Would highly recommend the fries and croquettes - absolutely worth it. Our server was also fantastic! Will definitely be back
Popped in for lunch. Excellent food & service. Will return for sure.
Fresh, flavourful food. Really enjoyed it. They could lower the volume on the music a bit.
I delightful surprise. I had no background knowledge of the restaurant and I was so happy with all the dishes. Delicate and balanced and so flavourful. Impeccable service to match the food. Thanks so much!
Lovely spot with a patio, delicious caesar and great salad.
One of my favorite restaurants in Calgary, really good food and service is great.
Great chicken sandwich
Great food and service!
This was a great night out with friends, good food, great ambiance and our server Jack made it just that much better! Will definitely return!
The only reason Im not giving 5 stars is because they dont have an eggs Benedict on the brunch menu haha. Food and service is great!
The croquettes they have as a starter are so good! Absolutely recommend just going for these! Unfortunately the veg burger on the menu was a big disappointment though. Two completely different levels of quality between the two dishes honestly, really weird.
Had a phenomenal dining experience at Donna Mac tonight. Had the sourdough, brussel sprouts, rigatoni and the perogies. Our server, Jack was excellent and very well versed with the menu and added to the overall experience. The in house made ice cream sandwiches are unreal and the food was made and presented to perfection. Always look forward to eating here.
Good lunch spot in town! I liked the perogies the best. We also got the vietnamese crepe and chorizo rigatoni~
Good fried chicken sandwich. Lots of vegetarian options.
Amazing food! Amazing people. They wrote up a whole itinerary for us to explore Calgary (from Toronto originally). Big thanks to Danielle and July for the hospitality. Words cannot explain how great they were
I hate writing bad reviews but this is the service nightmare I want people to be aware of. Avoid this restaurant if you can. The food was taking forever, we didnt get water refill, and food was average. We booked as a group so 18% tips were already included in the bill. We were being lectured that we should tip as 18% is not considered as tips (the waitress specifically told us we should tip in addition to the 18%).
I had brunch at Donna Mac with girl friends for birthday celebration, we ordered appetizer and brunch, drinks and the service was slow. When we spilt the bill to pay we noted that its 18% tips added on already and all of us paid the bill with the 18% tips. I understand that we were a group of 8 and its normal to have the 18% tips and none of us have ANY concern about it. However, the dramatic moment was waiting for us - our waitress walked to the table and commented as - ladies, next time when you are here PLEASE tip your server. We were shocked for three seconds and politely told her that everyone paid 18% tips. The waitress was NOT HAPPY about it and basically told us that we need to tip more than 18%. Firstly, tipping is a basic rights for customer, secondly everyone tipped 18% already and you were still not satisficed? My friend literally cried and felt that her birthday was ruined. I will not recommend this restaurant due to this horrible experience.
Usually, I dont give negative reviews, but not today. We went as a group of 8 today. The food was average, a bit greasy and salty; the service was slow. But we still enjoyed the lunch since it was my friends birthday party, until the moment we pay the bill. When we got the bill, an 18% tip was already added. After we paid the bill, the waitress came to us very rudely and lectured us: Just let you know, next time if you go out for brunch or dinner, tip your servant. We were shocked since we already tipped 18%. My friend thought she might miss it on the bill and kindly point it out to her. The waitress then said: but you didnt tip anything on top. To be honest, after that I dont find the service experience even deserve that 18% tip, and our birthday girl was supper upset. Avoid this place if you can.
The server was fantastic and the food was outstanding. Very flavorful. Couldnt pick a favorite dish as we loved them all. Nice separation of tables with our own private little area for 8 in the back. Our vegetarian adults loved the dishes. Lots to choose from. The meatatarians enjoyed their dishes as well.
Easy 5 stars. Donna Mac is one of my favourite restaurants in the city! They consistently have excellent dishes and the menu is very thoughtful. Front of house is all wonderful and attentive :) The kitchen crew always looks like they are having a good time, and that translates to the food they make. Just a good grand time out. The feature menus are so good too. Chef Kayla is amazing
Its a nice place to have dinner. The service is very good. The wine was good (pricey though) Italian pasta was mixed with some non-italian ingredients. Didnt like that.
What a lovely restaurant! Food was excellent and lots of gluten free options so I felt welcomed. Friendly staff and cool decor, I d go back again for sure.
Lovely modern decor, amazing food. The creamy risotto and delicious perogies are the must try! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options Available
Great spot - very unassuming.
Honestly food is great, had the chicken sandwich, which honestly is well done, wish it was a bit bigger. Fries tasted good though more on the salty side so it can be overwhelming after a bit, but portion was sizeable.
Best chicken sandwich in all of Calgary (so far)
Really enjoyed our time here on the weekend. Scored the day old sourdough as well! The food was excellent, the service was great too. I just wish the mimosa wasnt $10 for such a tiny portion.
One of the best places in Calgary for fine dining. Highly recommend it.
Food was delicious, service was great
10/10 experience. Friendly staff. Good food. Good atmosphere, would definitely dine here again. Would definitely recommend
Went for brunch with a group of 6. Food was mostly spectacular. My turkish eggs were amazing. Others had the vietnamese crepe (amazing also) and the breakfast sandwich (tasty and filling). One of the group got a side of fried chicken, this was the only mediocre food. Kinda greasy and boring. Coffee and americanos were just okay. Def can get better coffee almost anywhere. Service was really great! We will be back for brunch and tea. Maybe even try the dinner menu.
The breakfast sandwich was delicious, our server was very friendly and gave good recommendations, and the sparkling water provided was a very nice touch.
All the food we ordered was delicious. The restaurant was also clean and comfortable. The desserts are a bit expensive.
Food is fantastic but menu is small and EXPENSIVE!!! The staff were really nice and delivered high quality service. Overall a good experience.
Had a wonderful time here! Definitely will come back
Best place for brunch, cool setup and very reasonable prices.
Ive been there twice and Im eager to go again. Food is delicious. I had the Croquettes and the fried chicken sandwich and really loved them. Service is also great and the restaurant is clean.
One of my fav places to eat in Calgary!
Our server was fantastic! Will definitely be back
The food was excellent. The service was terrible. In my experience, it s very rare to find a restaurant where the food is outstanding but the service is so poor. Unfortunately that was our recent experience at Donna Mac. We had to track down the server who sat us every time we wanted to order. We had to ask for drinks at the outset, then track him down three times over to order an appetizer, a main and to get the bill. The staff seemed to be highly distracted by their own conversations, rather than focusing on the guests. We ran out of water and never got the bottle refilled, despite asking multiple times. Our drinks were empty after the appetizer and we never got new ones. We were never asked about the food and it was never clear who our server was, as we had to track down multiple different people throughout the evening. I m torn if I will return, because truly the food was very very well executed.
Try the six layer. Schnitzel
Had great service and LOVED that they had Calgary heritage roasting company s coffee. I was in heaven. Super cute space and nice server. All I would say is I wouldn t go back for brunch but I bet there dinner menu is a lot better. It s just hard to compete in the brunch world here in Calgary and I ve heard Donna Mac is more known for there lunch/dinner menu
I was in shock paying 19 for a cocktail prepared by my waitress. At this price point hire a mixologist. Drink was Meh. Edit: lowered overall review from 3 stars to 2 stars as a result of the restaurants response. 1. at this price point, a mixologist should be making the drinks, not front-staff. Worse, we watched her make our drinks, while reading the instructions from a recipe book. 2. when competitors like major tom, lulu, and orchard have similarly priced cocktails prepared by mixologists with quality ingredients, it isnt hard to recognize something is off here.
