Blown away!!! Homemade, fresh, and delicious!! The owner came around and told the story of how the restaurant came to be. It really made me feel connected to the experience. Great staff! Reservations highly recommend. I cant wait to go again!!!

First time here and definitely will not be the last! Zika - Marko and the entire crew along with the special Elvis Event made the entire experience amazing. Authentic home made delicious food- served with love truly. And the story of why Marlo s kitchen came to be makes this place all that much more special and amazing. Highly recommend! Marko s roll! White bean soup/ cabbage rolls and Bakalava so delicious!

The Schnitzel was amazing and loved the crisp cabbage salad. Their motto is to sit down and enjoy fresh, wholesome food mostly from farm to table. I understand why their ratings are so high. I would go there again.

The server seated and handed us menus and then forgot about us. She took our order 45 minutes later, after the other 2 tables finished their meals and left. She was apologetic and admitted to forgetting about us. All of our dishes were covered in a plain tomatoe sauce. I did not enjoy it. It was my first time trying Balkan food, perhaps that is how the food is supposed to be and I am unaccustomed to it. Admittedly, I m used to meals with a lot of cebolla, cilantro, limon, y chile. We had a cream puff for dessert that was very good. Overall, however, this was a disappointing experience especially considering that we drove 2 hours to check this place out.

MARKOS was a fortunate find in SE Calgary, thanks to Dave at The Bird Store who recommended it to us.! We had a late lunch of soup and Markos rolls - the food and service were excellent. They have a full menu of lunch and dinner items that we will return to taste very soon

For as long as this review is up, know that Wendel retired after 37 years career this week in October of 2024. The food was absolutely amazing in taste and smell. Vote up this review to say congrats to Wendel.

Ive been going to Markos for years. The owner, his son, kitchen staff and food, have always been great. However, last night was an exception. The place was busy and there was a woman handling the front, along with some other staff. We didnt have a reso but she did find a table for us. We then sat at the table for some time. Waiting to be served. The woman at the front that initially took care of us, appeared to ignore us. She served everyone else and even people who arrived after we did. 20 - 25 min had gone by and we still didnt recieve ANY service. We tried getting the attention of the two women (one being the woman at the front) who were attending the tables, but they just ignored us. At this point we decided it was best to leave. Even upon leaving (once agian, trying to get her attention) the woman at the front made eye contact (she was on the phone) but didnt even acknowledge us when we walked out. We were honestly taken back by the whole experience. It was rather frustrating. Every other time Ive gone in, the owner was always in and on top of things.

A wonderful find in the backstreets of Calgary. An international menu but definitely a Balkan flavour. From Markos rolls, schnitzel to Chevapi we all loved our meals. Entertaining owner and very pleasant service. Worth going out of your way.

Great food made by a thoughtful owner who cares about customers and service. The location was an unexpected place to find a great spot where my vegan colleague and I could both find easy options. The vegan cabbage roll was amazing. As was the salmon. We started with a salad that I am still trying to figure out how I will make at home. Good food. Go hungry.

Amazing food and a very invested owner/chef. He came and introduced himself and talk about the food he serves to his clients which are all grown and prepared by him and his family. Very traditional food. The sauerkraut was incredible as was the cabbage rolls and the chef s special which was lamb. We will be going back before we return to Ottawa. We tried 2 upscale restaurants and they didn t even come close. Support local businesses like this one! Bravo Chef! There s plenty of parking and a small patio outside.

Homemade food with love, this little gem was nice to find. Gluten free menu, chef/owner uses seperate fryers and is aware of contamination from gluten. The lamb was outstanding. Dont hesitate even second!!! This restaurant is category on its own. All eastern Europeans refresh your memories when food tasted like food. All northamericans try and you will find what is missing here in quality, origin, service, dedication. The money are there on 6th place. Why on 6th? Ask the owner, he will wake you up with his faith and wisdom.

Marko s Kitchen is a wonderful restaurant that offers homemade and authentic Serbian food. As a vegetarian with a gluten-free diet, it can be quite challenging to find authentic Serbian dishes that cater to my dietary restrictions. However, Marko s Kitchen has risen to the challenge and offers delicious Vegan Cabbage Rolls (Posna Sarma) and White Bean Soup (Pasulj), which are a must-try! The only downside is that the prices are a bit high for the portion sizes. It would have been better if they served two vegan cabbage rolls per plate instead of just one. Despite this, I appreciate their efforts and encourage them to continue innovating traditional Serbian dishes made vegan/vegetarian. Keep up the great work! I recommend to anyone who would like to try Serbian/Balkan food :-) Vegetarian options: Vegan Cabbage Rolls, Vegan White Bean Soup, Vegetable Soup, Smoked Peppers

I was looking for a place to have lunch with my daughter. I asked Gemini (googles new AI In messages) where we could have lunch. Markos was the first place it suggested. Since I saw 4.9 stars on reviews we went straight here! OMG! Lemme say I am from Las Vegas and moved here about 1 year ago. I havent had any luck when eating out. I cook from scratch all the time. I guess thats why its hard for me to find a place that actually has quality food and is tasteful. This was one of those very rare moments where my eyes just about popped out of my head when I took my first bite! Oh my gosh! Sooooooo flavorful! And the bread! Omg sooooo perfect! It was the first time I sat down to eat something I didnt cook and enjoyed every bite! Its literally been 5 months since that has happened. I can pretty much guarantee you can order anything here and you will not be disappointed!! Im definitely coming back with the rest of my family! Unfortunately no pic!

Stopped in for a quick coffee after shopping at Bianca s. Very friendly owner and staff, food looked and smelled great. It s all healthy, local, home grown, made fresh. I noticed this place before but hadn t stopped. Need to eat here.

Holy Pork Schnitzel, its bigger than my face! I just got diagnosed with celiac disease a few months ago and have been craving deep fry. Im very satisfied . I also got the chicken fritters and its so yummy! Edit: I ate it and Im so happy Im on the verge of tears! I actually got full halfway through because I havent been eating much since my diagnosis and Ive been scared to eat anything. A delectable experience! The owner took great pride in his work, telling us all about how he sourced natural ingredients. Thankfully, the food did the talking and it was DELICIOUS! GF options abound on the menu, and he graciously accommodated my mother (whose birthday we were celebrating) with all her dietary needs. A real gem of a restaurant hidden in an otherwise drab industrial park. I also heard that he not only employs his neurodivergent son, but named the place after him. Highly recommended!

Owner is very friendly, likes to chat. We ordered an order of Chevapi to share after reading about it in Savour magazine (which the owner took a picture of since he hadnt given permission - but he was glad of the advertising); we had to ask for the cheese and onion, which was readily given. Initially I thought we were overcharged but Ive come to learn that I was mistaken. I apologize that I didnt bring it up at your establishment right away; Ive revised this review. We enjoyed the bbq plater, white bean soup, two salads, the bread was delicious and the cabbage rolls are the best. Enjoyed the fresh cheese and ketchup they make. I would have given a negative rating if possible. This is the worst restaurant Ive ever been to. The food was terrible. I dont understand how this restaurant has a 4.9 rating. Im surprised. Even the mashed potatoes were not properly mashed, they were just boiled. My birthday was ruined .

We were in the mood for authentic Eastern European food and found Marko s with a Google search. The food was amazing. They use ingredients from local Hutterites, there are no processed ingredients and they even make their own cheese! The service was amazing and the owner even gave us a brief history of the restaurant. 11 out of 10 would recommend. Can t wait to go back.

I am vegetarian and so finding food that I really enjoy can sometimes be a challenge! But not at Marko s!! The food was excellent, having both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. The service was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect and the hospitality was second to none! Would definitely recommend Marko s for anyone who wants to try home cooked meals that taste just like your mom or baba make! Vegetarian options: The menu is full of vegetarian options! I had the white bean soup and cabbage salad and it brilliant. Full of flavour, filling and very much reminded me of home!

Very nice owner. Food was served promptly. The meat was a bit dry or maybe it was the bun Unsure. No price indicated for the desserts but at $7 each (VERY small portion) it s definitely not worth it. I believe everything is homemade but the taste was pretty off on everything we tasted. Their entrees are a lot better.

Authentic Serbian (Balkan) food.

A solid 4 . The owner was so friendly. He emphasized greatly on homemade fresh foods and diabetic friendly options and desserts for Marko. We were the first customers of the night, loved the wings and fries were fresh. We didnt like frozen vegetables (peas, carrots and corn) in the vegetable soup - we expected fresh veggies, could be celery carrots onions and mushrooms - something along those lines. We also had two desserts. The owners new creation is unique - an interesting combo of pineapple chocolate cherry and whipping cream. Will like to try all the different kinds next time Also the TV was playing soccer, which we love!

This afternoon I went to Marko s kitchen. My almost 12month old and I were welcomed and promptly sat. I only wanted a snack to get us through until we got home. We got the chicken fritters with house made dip and wow. My babe couldn t get enough, and I loved them as well. They were light and airy and the dip was delicious. Super happy, a place that will welcome you with open arms and leave you wanting more.

I recently entered this restaurant with my sister. To have lunch. The service we were given was incredibly rude and disgusting. Instead of saying they had no tables or that we would have to wait to be seated the response we got was. You need to have a reservation. First of all yes I am a veiled woman but my sister is not and it was not until the male staff saw me that he said this . So it was a polite way of saying my kind is not welcome. They also said I needed a reservation loud enough that all the patrons could hear it and we were shocked by the statement. The restaurant is located in an industrial area of Blackfoot trail and MacLeod trail. So typically you will see people there on their lunch break from the surrounding businesses. I left with such a disgusting taste in my mouth. I was embarrassed with the tone and volume of this staffers voice. Never have I felt so unwanted in a business due to my religious and faith clothing attire . The menu from what I see is nothing to write home about . If it was it would be more pricey and it would say on their site anywhere from website or menu that reservations are needed. Highly recommend that no one goes there.

We went on a Friday for a company christmas dinnner. They had an event and had live music playing. They were packed and seemed to have quite a bit of regulars in attendance so food was a bit slow. However, they provided great appetizers and the mains was awesome when it arrived. Service was top notch all throughout the experience. Will definitely come back

Very nice ambiance, and hearty food. I ordered the salmon and the Owner actually steered me away from it. I explained that I had a halal dietary restriction and he informed me the chicken cordon bleu was halal. It was absolutley delicious and i look forward to coming back (and I might even try the salmon!).

Homemade and quality food, everything was delicious. The treatment of the staff was close and cordial, they recommended us what to have dinner and they were right. The desserts are also very good. The place is cozy and quiet. We have eaten Salmon and goulash, spectacular.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Markos Kitchen and were thoroughly impressed by their selection of traditional Serbian desserts. From the mouthwatering Dobos torta to the irresistible krofne (donuts), each sweet treat was a delightful explosion of flavors that transported us to the heart of Serbia. The dedication to authenticity in their desserts truly stood out. Moving on to the savory dishes, the chicken soup and cevapi (grilled sausages) were satisfying and delivered the familiar tastes we were hoping for. The soup was rich and comforting, perfect for warming up on a chilly day. The cevapi were well-seasoned and grilled to perfection, offering a glimpse into the traditional Serbian culinary experience. However, I grew up in one of two most famous barbecue towns in Serbia, and I couldnt help but have high expectations for the pljeskavica (Serbian-style burger). While it didnt quite capture the exact flavors and texture Im accustomed to, I believe with a few adjustments, it has the potential to be on par with the real deal. Despite the minor shortcoming, we highly recommend Markos Kitchen as a must-visit restaurant for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Serbian cuisine in Calgary. The relaxing atmosphere, friendly service, and the standout selection of traditional desserts make it an enjoyable dining experience.

I visited Marko s for the first time. We used to go to the restaurant which used to be in this same location, we wanted to try the new restaurant. Ambiance is unique, this place has such a warm welcoming feeling. The owner explained concept of the restaurant, they have variety of international cuisines, all the dishes have quality ingredients the owner selected, they serve food he would serve to his own family. We tried broccoli cheese balls, Goulash and special dish, which was roast pork. Goulash was delicious, plenty of meat and veggies, a lot of flavor. Quantity was generous and reasonably priced. The special pork was amazing(please note it is daily special and may not be available when you visit). It came with roasted pork, stir fried veggies, and bread. Pork was well seasoned and juicy, pork skin was so crispy. The owner said the pork was roasted over several hours for the texture, it was really good. Vegetable was also delicious. The potion was really big, I was happy that we tried this special dish! They have cute little patio and has free parking. I d definitely recommend!

Had a lovely and relaxing lunch on the patio here. Ordered Marko s rolls, the special of the day, pork schnitzel and a beer for lunch on Saturday. All the food is made fresh in house and is exceptional. Flavours were perfect and portion sizes were generous. Will definitely be returning. Vegetarian options: Lots of alternative meals, see menu for details. Dietary restrictions: Looked like they had lots of alternatives for dietary restrictions on the menu. Parking: It s in a warehouse/industrial area, lots of parking available on the weekend. Not sure about weekdays, I would assume a little bit harder to park on weekdays.

I came in today around lunch time because I heard that Cevapi was on the menu, and its hard to find a good authentic Cevapi. Absolutely phenomenal...truly delicious, and Ill definitely be back, probably sooner than later.

Ive always felt welcome at Markos, and especially love the chicken stir fry, which caters to various dietary needs. Even the desserts ( made there and delish!) have dietary options. My go-to place when in Cowtown!

This place is an absolute gem. I wanted to eat every thing on the menu!

I appreciate when food items are intentionally vegan - not just made vegan by removing the cheese or eggs - and was pleased to see a few different options that were vegan from the start. I didn t have to substitute this or that, I could just order. The staff were friendly and the service was timed super well. My only complaint is that I wasn t able to try the potato burek (it wasn t available [I imagine this is because I dined at the very end of their day and the ingredients simply weren t there). To be clear, this isn t a real complaint - I love potatoes and was just looking forward to trying something different. This just saves me the agony of trying to decide what I ll have on my next visit. Dietary restrictions: Clearly marker items that were either gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan.

We were going for breakfast at Reds but when we found out it was a long wait, we came across Markos. I am so glad we did!!! The food is absolutely phenomenal! As someone who has food restrictions I was surprised to find 90% of the menu I can actually eat! Markos is very warm and welcoming with a beautiful story and the food!!! The food is incredible! Portions are HUGE for the price and all made fresh and from his garden. Try the Turkish coffee as well!!!

Wow! I cant believe that I didnt know about this gem in our city! We stopped here today with a large group and we tried a broad selection of dishes and everyone loved what they had. They also serve schnitzel (which isnt on the menu), which I absolutely love and it tasted great! Ive tried the cordon bleu which is also really good, but Im looking forward to try the chevapi next. Make sure you ask to hear the story of the restaurants history from Markos dad as it is very interesting. Edit: Finally tried the Chevapi and it was awesome! The Croatian beer is really good too! Some others in our group tried the BBQ platter and it looked amazing! Dietary restrictions: I think everything on the menu is gluten-free, but it didnt taste like it!

I had a lunch date there. Food was amazing! The taste, quality and combined w the service was excellent. Its not what youd expect from where it is located. A bit off the path from where youd expect a restaurant of this quality but very well worth the visit. Lots of choices and meals that are very healthy. Check out the menu as the variety offers something for everyone.

The best restaurant, the best food and the best service in Calgary. They also do catering(Yum Yum) and it s 10/10. You guys have to visit Marko s Kitchen and then hire them to cater for you at a party. Won t regret it! Go Zhika! You are the best

I was on the business trip to Calgary a month ago and decided to visit the restaurant based on the reviews and rating on Trip Advisor. However it wasn t the best experience. The restaurant is hard to find, located in the Calgary south industrial area. The customer service is terrible. At the entry nobody greets you or ask for anything. The young lady, appears to be working there was busy with her phone. I have asked if they serve lunch and she said yes. I found table by myself and was sitting for a while when she brought a glass of water and said nothing. No menu or drink offered. Later she just brought goulash but I ordered nothing. She argued that I said at the entry that I asked for it but that wasn t true. She also asked what she is supposed to do with already prepared food. Actually, the goulash is the last thing that I would ordered based on the menu that I was able to see online. Later a chef, probably the owner, came and asked how I like goulash, I said it is fine but it is not my favourite food and I haven t ordered it. He asked me what he can prepare for me and I said that I would like to try chevaps. Still, nobody offered any drink or anything else, I was thirsty and later had a water in my car. I went to see young lady at the counter and tried to start conversation about the deserts and what she can recommend but she answered everything they have is in the fridge. I got some kind of pudding in the plastic container. It wasn t bad but nothing to be excited for. I hoped to try their turkish coffee but nobody still came to my table. I packed, took my chevaps, went to the see the young lady at the counter while she still was busy with her phone. I asked for the bill and actually have been charged for two main courses including one that I haven t ordered. The bill was $40+. The food is not bad but the customer service is almost nonexistent. I got Sturbacks on my way back to the hotel and ate chevaps in my hotel room. I regret that I have visited this place and had to drive 30-45min. to get there. There are so many great restaurants in downtown Calgary around 8th Street where I stayed in the hotel in a walking distance. I don t understand all the hype about this place.

My daughter and my 93 year old mother each had the Cevapi. It was delicious :served with red chopped onion and house made cottage cheese.The cabbage salad was very fresh and tasty. Service was efficient and friendly. Would full heartily recommend Markos Kitchen

Really authentic Eastern European food. The staff is really friendly and engages a lot with their patrons, I saw a lot of good interactions at this homely place. Of course, the most important part of a restaurant is the food and it was amazing. Had the cordon bleu and the cevapi and both were extremely tasty. Would come again and I felt the high rating on Google reviews are justified. Parking: Lots of spots available, pretty quiet industrial area. Kid-friendliness: Seats for kids available.

Amazing true Balkan style food - most importantly home made, great service and life music !!! Really really impressed by everything that this jewel can offer ! If I could give more stars I would have . Definitely going back again and will highly recommend !

Very warm and cozy environment! Very friendly. The service was fast and the food was hot. We first started with the broccoli cheese balls, they were warm and soft. Very yummy. Then for my main I got the beef stir fry, was packed full of flavour and left me full! Love that it s a family restaurant and will be back for sure!

This little gem was truly exceptional. I went with my husband and was pleasantly surprised and I love that I can customize to my needs. I had cabbage roll with spaghetti squast and my husband tried Chavapi.
