118 8 Ave SW #100, Calgary, AB T2P 1B3, Canada
Upmarket lunch fare & small plates are served at this swanky, 1960s-style cocktail lounge.
My girlfriends and I attended this restaurant for a birthday. I'm not one to peruse downtown Calgary restaurants so keep in mind this isn't my regular type of place to go. I thought the service, food and drinks were just OK. The drink menu was vast and the server recommended a drinks for us. The price point was a big turn off. It was a neat experience and I have heard a lot of good things about this restaurant. I'm glad I went to check it out myself, but I wouldn't return.
Very cool vibe cocktails were great: had the midnight train it was a fun twist on a "chocolate" cocktail Had 3 appie plates to share: calamari-yes but eat immediately smashed cucumber salad-best of the 3 crispy chicken-tasty but needs a sauce Ambiance was really nice would definitely go back for a cozy date night
Five star dining experience! Some of the best food I've had in Calgary. We had the charred broccoli, Thai curry mussels, and sea bass. The mussels were my favorite. Our server Adrian was very attentive and knowledgeable. And the ambiance was perfect! I love all the references to The Shining. Very fun!
Came on a Monday, hoping to sit in the basement space as we had heard great things, but was not open for service. However, the server allowed us to go down to take a peek. It is gorgeous and would definitely return to check this space out. My colleague and I had the nobody puts baby in a corner cocktail and the Scallion pancake. Would definitely come back.
Lunch: “Wagyu” burger for $29 with fries. Meh. At this price point it’s failing to deliver: burnt bun and overcooked fries with old oil. Positives: bun was soft, you can taste the onion bacon jam, and a decent amount of fries, nice environment. Relatively empty at 1:30 pm.
Was a super nice place with cool decorations and nice atmosphere, although the service was slow and took almost 40 minutes for our meals to arrive. Keep in mind we got there around 5 on a Thursday. The food was pretty good, for appies we got baked potatoes (kind of spicy but I enjoyed them) and got the pan seared chicken for a main (it was nicely seasoned). My sister got the lamb, and she said it was tasty. Overall it was alright, but as I said, the wait was terrible considering that it wasnt busy at all. Waitress was nice though.
Absolutely gorgeous establishment! Me and my partner came who is an huge movie fan and loved the inspiration of the place. We had the Katsu sandwich and Wagyu burger and both were amazing! The young gentleman who served us was so nice and kind! We will return before we go back home for dinner.
The Wednesday room is a classy place with a great ambiance and a little bit of bourgeoisie vibe. It is quiet and classy, considering the fact that it lays right on Stephen's avenue in the downtown core and has a great relaxing vibe. It is ideal for good dates and company EOY parties or private events. It can be pricey, but if money is not a problem, then go for it. It does get major points for service and atmosphere/ambiance. Food is okay.
Fantastic place for cocktail and food was great as well!
Food is a little overpriced for what you get but overall amazing atmosphere for cocktail with friends.
Kieran was an INCREDBLE bartender & server. He was funny & cool and entertained our entire table. Here with a few executives that ordered drinks that werent on the menu & he knew exactly how to make them. This guy alone made the experience 100x what I expected.
BIG thank you to Tatianna! She helped me organize a great birthday party for my dad s 65th. Great food and drinks
Great food! Great drinks! Great atmosphere!
Our server lied to us about the auto gratuity on our bill. We found out because it seemed high and we asked for an itemized receipt. They didn t even seem ashamed. Wild.
Delicious food and excellent cocktail list
Such an awesome place in Calgary. Arson our server went above & beyond to make us feel so special. 10/10 hospitality & the food and drinks are just as good! Will be making this a frequent spot every time we visit!
Adrian was an amazing server, great knowledge, suggestions. Fantastic food and cocktails.
Beautiful restaurant, the basement area is gorgeous. The Thai mussels were very tasty and worth getting, by far the best dish we had. The sea bass was tasty, however completely overpowered by the seasoning, could not actually taste the fish at all, it might as well have been chicken. Cocktails were very nice.
Incredible food and atmosphere. We shared the brussel sprouts, scallops and risotto and all was gluten free and so yummy. Cocktails were also great!
Incredible food and service! Came here for lunch on a Friday. The atmosphere was stunning, elegant and cozy! Our waiter was so kind and attentive. We absolutely loved the experience and will be back!!!
Delighted to see the fried chicken and olives back on the menu! Also tried the new brussel sprouts which were delicious. We had an incredible server for my cousins birthday that did a great job taking care of our large group. Cocktails were amazing as usual.
Came here a few weeks ago and was happy with the food, service and experience. This positive experience was likely due to it being a slower day. I decided to book again and went yesterday to recommend to friends but was very disappointed. There was no hostess, we were waiting for 10 minutes to get seated. No one was upstairs at all. When we finally went down, we ordered our drinks and ended up waiting 40 minutes to get our drinks. I could see them made on the bar counter and they were sitting there for at least 20 minutes. One of our mains came before any of our drinks even did, and we were told that because of a new system and they were understaffed that our mains were coming first and appetizers were going to come 15 minutes later. It wasnt that busy of a night, but it does seem like they only had one server who also seemed relatively new. Our server was apologetic and we were understanding, but the hostess who dropped off the main first before anything else was not apologetic nor explained why a main was coming first. Towards the end of our meal, they suddenly were having a professional flash photography photoshoot. I am not sure if this was by the company or if it was an engagement sort of thing but It was very odd as several of the pictures had us thinking we would be in the back of them, and the flash continuously went off at us. I have no idea why they wouldnt do the photoshoot post service or why they restaurant allowed this while guests were dining. Really not sure whats going on with this restaurant.
We had our wedding reception at The Wednesday Room this past weekend. We booked the entire restaurant and we couldn t be happier with how it all went. From the preparations to the menu options, it was all handled with professionalism, supreme customer service and communication. The day of our event, our guests were all greeted warmly and the restaurant looked impeccable. The staff were attentive and caring, the food was absolutely incredible, and the ambiance was perfection. They made our wedding day so wonderfully perfect and we couldn t be happier. I highly recommend them for any event or even a date night out. You won t be disappointed. Dietary restrictions: One of our guests had a serious allergy and it was handled very well, with extreme care and anonymity.
Very delicious menu! Highly recommend if you want to try something new and adventurous! Everything I tried from here was wonderful!
Amazingamazingamazing! The Miso Caesar salad was gorgeous
Company function. The food was absolutely amazing. Lots of family style dishes too many to list. A couple favourites were Caesar salad and mussels. Delicious. Staff were great and loved the whole evening here. And did I mention the bread? It was sublime
Weve visited the Wednesday Room for both a light dinner and cocktails on different occasions, and we were thrilled to find this place! Its decked out in 60s decor and has such a cozy and cool feel. The lower level is our favourite and so much fun if youre looking for a unique drink in an even more unique space!
Great ambiance, low-key speakeasy vibes. And the food is fantastic! Cocktail names are clever, but I highly recommend their signature espresso martini! I will definitely be back again.
Wow honestly the best food Ive ever had in calgary. I have worked in restaurant industry 15 years so i know. Everything was exquisite and the ingredients were so fresh. Thank you so much!
Kieran Mont is a such a good waiter. Super cheerful, unobtrusive, but still majorly attentive. We love the ambience, so sexy, original recipes and balanced and well thought through. The mushroom tempura was so good, such a good fry and well seasoned. Delicious Every single time we ve been here the menu was different and updated. And, we come here a lot, dude.
Great service by kirin mont. Enjoyed the banantini. Prawn toast, scallion pancake
Food was incredible. Restaurant atmosphere is awesome, need to sit in the basement. Drinks were great and so was service. Definitely recommend! Dietary restrictions: Accommodated allergies.
I like their cocktails and ambience.
I had a layover in Calgary and stopped for a cocktail. Something just felt off, the servers weren t really pleasant or really didn t get the impression that they cared I was there. Just felt uncomfortable. Has my cocktail and left. I was there back in 2020 and I loved it, so that s why I came back. Disappointed.
Service was slow despite it not being that busy. Otherwise food and drinks were amazing.
Great food, fun cocktails. Highly recommend for a date night
We came to this restaurant before the Billy Idol concert had mussels and tempura mushrooms and a bottle of wine the gentleman who served us named Arson (yes that s his name) couldn t have been more accommodating and generous bringing the level of service to an all time high! His suggestions were spot on . Thanks Arson for making our visit so enjoyable we ll be back
This was the second time I ve been here, and while this experience wasn t as good as the last, it was still okay. The fried chicken, fries, and bruschetta were delicious. The espresso martinis were also great. But waiting 30 minutes for our second cocktail was not okay. Our server was apologetic but it was still disappointing.
One of my favorite cocktails stops in Calgary!
We had a reservation at 5pm- Beautiful interior and great cocktails. Service is slow and not consistent. We had to flag our server down for our second round of drinks and for our entrees. Our party ordered at the same time but was delivered incoherently and some arrived 10 mins earlier than others. Food was ok- pasta is unsalted and bland. Katsu sandwich was delicious, but fries were over salted. Lasagna tasted like it was reheated. Would come again for drinks and atmosphere.
Great food and cocktails with a dealers choice.
Upstairs and downstairs were both super cute spaces. Scallop crudo and mushroom tempura were both delicious, and cocktails were exciting as always. Natasha was a fantastic server! Thanks for a great evening, and happy stampede!
Great food and great vibes! Really nice spot for a date or meetup with friends.
What a great hidden gem. The food was amazing and at an unexpectedly reasonable price. There were lots of great options on the menu for all types of preferences, from the vegan to the carnivore (note: appies on the left, entrées on the right). The new menu did not disappoint and we all enjoyed our choices. The decor is 70s business lounge, and we were really comfortable at our table on the lowest level. They have spots for small and large groups, and the atmosphere had a quiet energy. Both intimate conversations and exciting stories with the group would be appropriate here. Like any downtown destination, parking is a challenge, and you will at least be walking up Steven Ave (8th) to find it (beside James Joyce). Would recommend having a reservation, and give yourself lots of time to navigate the disaster that are Calgary downtown roads right now.
What a great Gem this place is for photos an parties etc ... Worked out great for my daughters grad photos due to a raining unpredictable weather day
Have always loved Wednesday room but last visit was extra special. Arsen was training on bar and we were celebrating my moms birthday and he made her feel so important.
Fantastic number of gluten free options and a total understanding of Coeliac, making for a very pleasant first evening in Canada. Thw fried chicken was so crunchy, very unusual for gf. Very friendly genuine. service Dietary restrictions: Fab gluten free options.
Great restaurant in downtown Calgary! We had a very nice evening there with a good entrée, a very good main course and an excellent red wine from British Columbia! Service was very attentive and friendly! Thanks to Amelie
I am such a fan of this restaurant. Ive been here several many times over the years but this past week had a really exceptional experience with the service, being able to try new cocktails, and learn more about the mixology component. Our group (including one out of towner with very particular tastes) had a fabulous time. The menu is also currently absolutely phenomenal. I cant say enough good things about our recent visit.
Best cocktails in town!
Food is good overall, nothing exceptional but tasty none the less. Service was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable.
Went to Wednesday Room this last week for lunch about 2 years since the last visit and now post going vegan and I was so pleasantly surprised! They had plenty of vegan options and were so delicious! We had the Beet & Endive which was flavourful and light and the Charred cauliflower with walnut pesto which was savoury and yummy!
Waygu burger was great but not a fan on stringy fries and were a bit salty. Great atmosphere and nice ambiance
Bad experience service is at its worst.. vegan food creamed leeks tasted very bad..
Food and service was good.
Food was horrible. Place was loud. Waitress was slow and rude and claimed it on the fact that she was working the patio and inside. Then the food was super slow and claimed it on the fact that there is a basement. We had to take the risotto to go. What a joke this place is. Never coming back!
Food and drinks are very good, but also expensive. Food portions are medium to small. Our service was top shelf.
Absolutely love The Wednesday Room! Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, the food and the cocktails are incredible
Took a couple of customers here for lunch. Service was excellent, but the food was just ok and the menu options are not good at all. Their lunch menu is pretty much the same as their dinner menu - most items are the small shareable plates and the mains are large heavy meals. We did not want to share small plates (that feels like something more for friends and family, not for a business lunch), so we ended up ordering heavy meals not ideal for lunch and leaving most of the food on our plates. Options for any type of green salad is ZERO. I take customers out for lunch on a fairly regular basis it was a nice day and Stephen Avenue was busy, but there was only one other table of folks here. IMO, if Wednesday Room wants to capture some of that downtown lunch crowd, they need a major overhaul on their menu.
Great place to have a classy night out! Me and my girlfriend went there recently and really enjoyed the ambiance and comfy seating of the dining room. Our cocktails were pretty good too, although the whisky cocktail with red wine foam topping was interesting, to say the least. We weren t very hungry so we got a bone marrow rigatoni and focaccia to share. The pasta was great but we were a little surprised that there wasn t any bone marrow pieces, it s melted and then mixed in the pasta. I would say it s worth checking out just for the novel ambience alone.
Even with my reading glasses on, I had difficulty reading menus. Other than that, I thought the environment, service and food were spectacular
Lunch left a bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. I had the Tuna Frites, which was refrigerated spoiled fish served in a hot sauce. The experience further soured when I brought it to their attention: - the manager patronizing explained the temperatures of the food (which did not correspond to what I was eating) - the chef aggressively confronted me with a piece of raw fish and crème brûlée (?) to show me what food looked like before it was cooked. At no point did any of the 3 people in the escalation chain confirm the fish was prepared today. The Wednesday Room will serve you old food, and aggressively defend their intent to do so.
We loved the cocktails and the atmosphere. The bartender was great and the server we great, however; the hostess was beyond rude. We almost left when we had to deal with her and she put a cloud on the start of the experience.
Great food and service. Loved the ambiance at this place Dietary restrictions: They were very good with adjusting for allergies. Food : 5/5 |
I went there with a friend for the YYC Experience. Food: just Ok, my steak tartar was bland so I asked for salt and pepper, my pork belly was 80% fat, the dessert was ok. When I complained about the pork belly after cutting off majority of it - the fat - in he middle, I was told thats how pork belly looks like. with all respect thats a lie as and a very wrong approach. Service was beyond bad - they asked my friend whether we were ready for the main course while I was still eating my starter, then they brought our dessert while we were still eating our mains. Then we were waiting with our main courses empty plates as we were not given spoons for the dessert. The cherry on the top was my bill that was overcharged and it took them 3 attempts to get it right. come on!
We came under the YYC|Exp program. We liked the atmosphere, very cozy. I ordered the tuna tartare and it was very tasty, but also spicy, which was not warned about. But I was with my wife and she ate it with gusto. The beef tartar was tasteless, lacking the signature sauce and possibly spices. The main course is risotto and it was generally good. The second was a couple of pieces of octopus and some piece that really was for the most part made of fat. But in general it turned out not bad. For dessert there was crème brûlée and tart with berries. The crème brûlée had too much sugar on top and instead of a crispy layer, it was hard to break with a spoon, but it was delicious in the middle. The tart was also good. In general, the impression remained good. Have a nice day!
Enjoyed the YYC Exp prix fixe menu tonight. Our table of 6 tried all items. I ate the tuna tartare, octopus & pork belly, and creme brule. In general it was pretty tasty. The main courses were not as good as appies and desserts. Appies: * steak tartare - everyone seemed to really enjoy it, no complaints * tuna tartare - really enjoyable. Well balanced flavours and textures. I would rate as 8/10 Mains: * risotto - everyone who ordered this left a good amount on their plates. General consensus was it was lacking flavour and too large of a portion. 5/10 * octopus and pork belly - octopus was well cooked, though small portion. Large hunk of pork belly, that was quite lean and possibly overcooked. Accompaniments on the plate were delightful. 7/10 Desserts: * passionfruit tart - delish, no one talked while eating this. 10/10 * cardamom creme brule - great cardamom flavour, on the sweet side, but very tasty. Custard was perfect consistency. I ordered a decaf espresso with it as I heard the biscotti was hard. It worked well. 10/10 Overall decent price for the meal. Drinks were expensive though. I had 2 drinks and an espresso for nearly the price of the meal. The negroni noir with squid ink was tasty. Not sure the service was good enough for auto gratuity though. We were a table of 6 and server was the only server upstairs(which was full) and also doubling as the bartender. Solid 10% quality tip, but we were forced to pay 18%. Meh, sign of the times I guess.
Really nice vibe with great food and tasty inventive drinks
It s alright. Very pricey and my beer wasn t even fully topped up. Food portions are very small
I paid $45 dollars for my meal. It didnt fill me. My cats feed better than what you provided. Its disgusting! No good service either.
Tried the YYC Exp menu, lovely ambiance and good food. Loved that the alcohol free drinks names are Disney themed
First time at the Wednesday Room for a friends private event retirement party. From the first welcome at the door, to the great service and very tasty food and beverage offered during the event, I was very impressed. My friend and a few guests are celiac, so the servers mentioned which food items were gluten free or not each time they were brought around.
This is absolutely my favourite spot in Calgary! The food is always delicious, the vibe and ambience is chill, and the drinks are 10/10! If you get Holly as your server, ask for either a dirty martini or her dealers choice!!! Both were so fabulous!
I did your pre menu. I did a meetup .We waited 2 hours for your pri fix menu that would only fill a cat. Never coming back!¡
stellar food and service brothers!
Wait, would smack. 10/10
One of the best dining experiences my family and I have ever had.
I loved going to Wednesday Room, but after my recent visit, I probably will not go again. We were a group of 5 people and came to Wednesday Room to celebrate a birthday. Only one staff member said happy birthday to the person celebrating and the waitress did not seem to care at all - even when we told her. We ordered tons of drinks and food and was also charged $3 per person because we brought in cupcakes to the restaurant. Im just disappointed that the service was subpar and that no one acknowledged my friends birthday and that we were charged $3 per person because we brought in cupcakes.
Expensive, but an amazing experience
this place was absolutely amazing! the atmosphere was perfect for our evening. the food was great, the service was better than i could have ever imagined! cant wait to return here again!
Came here with a gf I hadnt seen in years and we wanted to catch up. Service was really horrible and the server seemed annoyed we were spending time talking and annoyed we asked for recommendations .... etc... I dont get it because it wasnt crazy busy and we were being friendly. Food wasnt very good, and when the bill came the machine gives you a minimum option of 18 percent lol....wont come back. One of the worst service experiences I have had in a long time which sucks because its a very pretty atmosphere...
Such a cool and intimate atmosphere. Wonderful service and amazing food.
We went here for the vibes, but it was quite possibly the worst experience we ve had at a restaurant in Calgary. The waitress was incredibly unpleasant. Before serving us, the waitress commented I m not in the mood to deal with this . I don t like to make assumptions, but I m assuming it was due to our age? Pretty off putting as two young people (22 and 23 ). It s totally a cool place to check out and drinks are fantastic. The staff could use an attitude check tho ://
I recently came here for dinner and cocktails with a friend and enjoyed the space, the food and the drinks so much I will definitely come back next time Im in Calgary! We had the beef tartare, the brussel sprouts (best Ive ever had), and the braised lamb shoulder. 10/10 plus extra points for the design inspirations from The Shining.
Wonderful, flawless experience. No complaints. The food was delicious, the staff were very polite and able to give detail about many things on the menu as well as answer all my questions, and the interior and atmosphere had a lot of effort put into it, to the point where it puts other restaurants in Calgary to shame--- Im not kidding, the inside was so gorgeous that it makes most other restaurants in the area code look like a bus shelter by comparison. Highly recommended, and well definitely be going back soon!
Unreal space for a romantic dinner or great drinks. Check out the beautiful downstairs bar for a vibey evening.
My party of six ate at the Wednesday Room yesterday and the whole thing was a bit of a bummer. Our reservation was at six and it took the server probably 25-30 minutes to come by and take our drink order. By then we also ordered all our food, a selection of small plates and one main each. She said she d bring the small plates as they were made. There was not a single plate of food on our table before 6:50. We then had to ask for our mains to come out right away because the show was at 8. Everything was rushed and then one of our people didn t get her plate until 10 minutes after everyone else did so our choices were to be rude and eat a warm meal without her or let everything get cold. It shouldn t take an hour to get food on a table. Super disappointed with the whole experience.
The TOMATO BURRATA is out of this WORLD. I dined here for a girls night and the food and cocktails were so on point not to mention the very cool atmosphere. We sat downstairs which I highly suggest, and was told by someone that the design was based off of the movie the shining. The cocktail list is extensive and you can t miss on this menu. We ordered the I ll have what she s having. And it was an absolute delight. Do yourself a solid, and make sure you order the Tomato Burrata to start. It s creamy and fresh with a slight kick of spice. We also ordered the prawn fettuccine, which did not skimp on the prawns, and the flavour was buttery and creamy and delicious. Also ordered the bone marrow rigatoni, which again was a choice. We did not regret, it was meaty and had depth with a beautiful red sauce. For dessert we ordered the crème brûlée which came with the cutest little biscotti. Also ordered the vegan apple crumble with the most light and delicious ice cream. This place is wonderful. Enjoy!
Quiet environment. Top notch music selection! Excellent service.
This lunch was my first meal of YYCEXP 2024. First course - Thai Curry Cauliflower Soup, quite rich and creamy and enjoyed the peanut / chili crunch for texture - 7.5/10; AAA Hangar Steak Frites with bone marrow butter - just an average steak and fries for a restaurant of this quality; definitely needed the butter - 6.5/10; and a Cardamom Crème Brulee - nothing too exciting, just a very well done creme brulee - 7.5/10. Overall: a good meal, certainly worth the price of admission, but nothing overly memorable.
I wanted to express my disappointment with the customer service we received during our recent visit. Despite arriving well before closing time, the staff seemed hesitant to accommodate us, spending considerable time discussing seating options only to ultimately deny us service. we arrived at 11:25 PM and Google says they close at 1 AM. we could see the seating chart, and there was more than enough seats open to place us either upstairs or down. The discrepancy between the advertised closing time and the actual refusal left us feeling frustrated and unwelcome. This experience has deterred us from returning to your establishment. As business owners we were shocked at the behaviour.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at The Wednesday Room. We ordered the burrata, popcorn, a few mocktails, the steak sandwich, the yuzu tart, and the espresso crème brûlée. Everything was delicious, aside from the mocktails. They were a little on the sour side and not worth $10. But everything else was great - super flavourful and well-made. Service was prompt and friendly. Loved the coat check at the front. I d love to come back and try more items! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options, vegan options
This is exactly the kind of sink one wishes to encounter at a fancy restaurant that serves excellent libations. The basin is low, deep, and wide, beckoning a wide array of sink pissers to luxuriate themselves into it. The scented ice cream cone next to it adds a distinct touch of class to the already classy experience.
Stopped in here on a whim and it is super chic with an excellent drink and food menu. Holly, the bar tender, was really lovely and the drinks were great. Don t skip the burger, I couldn t stop talking about how good it was!
Very unique atmosphere, warm calm atmosphere!
Atmosphere and drinks were fabulous
Great food and very nice atmosphere
Good eaten: Oyster & Scalop Rockefeller - 3 stars Focaccia - 5 Creamy leeks - 2 Friend chicken - 4 Popcorn - 5 Rigatoni Bone Marrow - 3 Spring roll - 4 Potato Rostie - 4 Chicken parm - 5 Roasted chicken - 4 Risotto - 3 Wagyu burger - 5 Mushroom soup - 5 Cocktails - all of them. 10/10 The food here tastes like food. ;) everything added tot he food is wholesome. The duck fat the butter, everything tastes non pretentious, organic and real.
Cool spot for lunch!
We love going to the Wednesday room :) their food is really yummy and such good drinks too!
Good food some decent drinks a few where not available that we wanted but food was good
The Wednesday is located in the heart of the buzz of downtown Calgary. It has that underground look that when you pass by it makes you curious and want to come in. We had a farewell party of 13 in the basement of the place which has walls which let you see the stone they where build with, nice orange tones in the sitting and lighting and nice dark accents with black serviettes. The cocktails are alright and the menu is diverse and expense, unfortunately the food is far from impressive and doesn t match its cost. We sampled a number of plates that we shared and I was not impressed by any of them. The cauliflower maybe was agreeable as were the popcorn with truffle oil (which the should bring first of all, to lure you into thinking that the rest of the food will be great too!). The fried olives are not worthy and really too much of a stretch that ends up ruining them, the pork something served on soft bred rather than a crunchy base also no particularly tasty, neither the mushroom toast (or something like that). I didn t try the other plates that we ordered but based on these 3 I don t think I missed much. I was not asked by the staff (who were all very nice!) how the food was tasting so just sharing it here FYI! If you re a food lover, find a different venue, if you want a nice ambience and you really don t care too much about food, go for it! The W is your place! Cheers!
Its a good and hidden place. Well worth your checking out. Interesting cocktail selections and better food than most. Food : 4/5
The first bite had a hair in it but the meal was decent. Roasted carrots were ok and the carrot hummus with it was good. The butter board had great herbed butter but was seriously over priced. The scallops were good but the accompanying bacon chunks didn t go with it. The pork belly was mediocre. Service and atmosphere was nice. The seating blows with the close tables but I m used to it. 3 1/2 stars.
The atmosphere is very calming and subdued to me. It most definitely reminds me of my parents basement. Lol I always enjoy an old fashioned , and the creations the wizard bartenders come up with are utterly amazing. The food, next level!! Always 10 out of 10 in flavourful and creativity. All in all a great spot to go, relax and just enjoy yourself.
The basement of the Wednesday room has an awesome retro vibe. We were looking forward to it for our pre dinner cocktails and appys before a main meal elsewhere to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was kind enough to move us from upstairs to downstairs upon request as we really wanted to be in the dim, retro space. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, the cocktails were good and the roasted carrots and hummus appetizer was so good we are still dreaming about it. This would be a great spot for a business lunch or first date. If youre eating, avoid the wing back chair seating if you can, they were a bit too sinky! Previous visits with booth seating were much more comfortable for eating. Just love the feel of the place and the food and drinks are perfect too!
The food is alright. Not the best food. The service was incredible though.
Really cool vibe, interesting decor and lovely staff (and amazing food!!!!). Thank you!
Amazing cocktails and great staff. The bartender made us custom drinks based on our preferences and each of them was fantastic!
A swanky place to enjoy the finest. The menu is built around sharing. We had the fried chicken, which was excellent, and the tuna and the scallops were great. This place pays attention to flavours. The cocktails were refreashing and went along with the 1960s home decor.
Great place to hang out.
Nice food. Excellent dealers choice cocktail from Dolan.
Bartender is awesome! He puts his own spin on some very creative and delicious drinks and makes them even MORE delicious! Nice relaxing vibe and very clean!
Cool spot for a drink and food. Service was great.
The servers were quite nice but it didnt seem like we had one thing go as expected: our mains came first because they had forgotten to place orders for our appetizers, the wrong drinks were made and they were offered to us so as to not waste what was made but we were still charged (I think we would have been less upset about it if they had offered an explanation prior that we would still be paying for the gin. We could have also used that money to just order a different drink of our preference if thats the case), and the salad I paid +$3 for I asked for dressing on the side and the waitress acknowledged at the table oops, the dressing isnt on the side and did not offer to rectify the mistake. All the staff were citing that the restaurant was busy, so I can appreciate that maybe the restaurant needs more staff for a Saturday night. The food was great. We ordered the linguini, wagyu burger, steak au poivre, tuna crudo. Very pleased with the food, but really not so much the service.
A little mystical wonder in downtown Calgary. Great space for an intimate gathering.
my top favourite of the chef-driven bars in Calgary, and I tried many during my travels swoon for that sixties vibe! real care and knowledgeable craftmanship with the cocktails beautifully and simply stylishly presented and food, little twists from a base of solid technique, perfectly seasoned, and so delicious yummity yum yum and the through film theme is the icing on top
Mille served us and rio was the bartender. This place has a cool vibe. So nice and full of energy the staff is amazing and food is phenomenal. We really liked the place
Yummy cocktails and food! Chicken sandwich was great.
Great vibe. The design is reminiscent of a supper club and just makes you lose track of time. The shishito peppers are amazing. Highly recommended. The Bao buns were also very good but I could have used a bit more pickle. We were also pleasantly surprised at the value for money. Food : 4/5
Been here before and loved it. However, this time was the worst service I ve had in a restaurant in a long time. Waited 20+ minutes then finally flagged down a staff member to order a drink. No introduction on who our server was, or welcome to their establishment, just placed the drinks down and walked away. Told the couple who was joining us not to bother coming. Had to flag down a different staff member for the bill and left. Very disappointed.
Great food! They have a few vegan options for those with dietary restriction. Dietary restrictions: Vegan options. Food : 5/5 |
Great staff
Had the steak, for the price it was tough, but moreso salty. Not impressed with the food menu, the drinks for a tiny glass it was 18$ for a cocktail. Food
Went to Wednesday Room on Stephen Ave in Calgary. Wasnt very impressed. My drink was As you wish from Princess Bride. It was way too tart for me. Didnt feel they balanced it with enough sugar though totally get ppl have different levels of accepting tartess. So thats fine. Just wasnt suitable for me. Ordered clam linguine. Pasta was nicely al dente which I like but the chef forgot to put salt. And no, you cant say salt level differs and that hard to adjust to every persons taste. I use very very little salt and it had no flavour at all. Told the servers and asked them to bring salt which I never add to my cooked food but no choice. Servers didnt seem to care about my concern. They just oh sorry and thats pretty much it And pasta had a lot of oil. Too much oil! Was not impressed that I decided not to try their dessert which I had planned to try. Very disappointed!
Excellent food. I ordered the poached halibut and by far recommend this. My friend ordered the carpaccio, and it wasn t our favorite rendition of the classic dish. Food
Bartender made the most excellent creative mocktails, highly recommend!
Really enjoyed our dinner
A fun funky retro themed restaurant. The food was fun and tasty with a large variety. Something for everyone. Parking: There is no vehicular traffic on this street. But it is a short walk in a trendy area.
The Wednesday room is awesome, great food, easy to get in and the basement vibe is way cool. Would recommend.
Was hood, past experiences have been but mostly enjoyable.
Beautiful atmosphere! Its a swanky spot to grab a drink. We ordered small plates to share and all four of us liked the dirty fries the best.
Ridiculous overpriced food. Besides the great atmosphere, there s nothing impressive about the food. We order oysters, popcorn (I know :/) and tuna. Not a spot for food but it has good cocktails
Wheelchair accessibility: Downstairs not wheelchair accessible but upstairs bar is, and its still nice Food
Such a fantastic spot to grab a few cocktails, enjoy a meal and relax. The decor/vibe of this place is cool and unique; the cocktails are some of the most delicious and complex Ive ever had, and the staff are friendly and knoweldgable (especially the bar staff). I love this place and cannot wait to return!
Really enjoyed my first time there. Will be back for sure. The vibe in the basement with the carpet from The Shining and the exposed limestone (?) is worth the trip alone.
Sat out on the patio and had cocktails, they were super good.
Full disclosure, one of my kids works here, but I just had to put this out there: The clam linguine has got to be the best plate of food downtown for less than $25 (it s $22)! The portion is perfect, lots of clams, fresh pasta!
Ambiance 10/10 Food 11/10 Service 12/10 Great experience dining - and our server had great recommendations and offered unmatched service!! Thank you Cass!!
We visited Saturday night for the first time. Two couples out on the town. We had had never been here before. But had heard great things about it. The staff were amazing and helpful. The vibe was cool 60 s / 70 s! Cocktails were spectacular! Shareable s were delicious. They even had a cachaca we had not found before and were able to make us our favourite drinks, even though they weren t on the menu! We will definitely be back! Thanks team!
The spaghetti aglia e olio was bomb! Will definitely come back for more!
Great atmosphere, great service, food and cocktails were very good as well
Incredible experience here this past weekend with my wife on our trip to Calgary. The cocktails were very good and all named after quotes from classic films. The popcorn Appetizer was so unique with the duck fat flavour. I enjoyed one of the most flavourful and memorable entrees Ive ever tasted in the Halibut. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great atmosphere and experience on a night out in downtown Calgary
The highlight of this place is the atmosphere. It was really laid back and not too loud. The music and 70s theme was really cool too. The food is really great as well, but I found it a little on the expensive side. This is probably something worth considering for anniversaries or special events.
Had to wait almost 5 minutes before a host greeted us at the front. Not sure if the service here is bad or deliberately passive aggressive. Bartender couldn t pour a beer properly, so we decided not to stick around to see if their chefs could make a meal properly.
I only had time for drinks, but they were well thought out and excellent :)
My wife and I went here for a date night and enjoyed an excellent meal. Loved the chicken Parm in sandwich form and the belone marrow rigatoni had a great texture. A little more spice than expected (which was none, I dont think I read the menu correctly) but still great. The birria spring rolls and potato rosti from the small plates might have been my favorite though. Server was super friendly and helpful. Great vibe downstairs too. My only critique is the chairs were too deep. Im 62 and still felt like I was being eaten by the seat. Ill likely be back for cocktails (which were incredible) and some more small plates!
Our server, Maria, was both attentive and fun, and helped make our evening a great one! The food was delicious - especially the oysters, Brussel sprouts, and foccacia appies.
Really delicious burger (average salad), and was able to accommodate the meal for a no-gluten solution. Excellent service. It was a really good lunch option.
Really good experience with drinks and food. They have good options for vegans. Really enjoyed the tempura and mushroom risotto. Will definitely be back! Vegetarian options: Great vegan options Dietary restrictions: Great vegan options
You will get royal experience there.
First rate restaurant is the least of what a person can say about this place. We were there for an event and it was a memorable experience. A wonderful mix of modern lines and vintage elegance, the Wednesday Room knows how to make a sophisticated evening no matter the occasion. Perhaps a person could get lucky and spot a movie star. It would be the place to find them after all. The food is warm, rich, and inviting. Each bite was ecstasy from their small bites of mushroom tartare and tomato burrata to the main course of creamy mushroom risotto that melts in your mouth, and the apple crumble for dessert which shows that sweet and spicy make the perfect marriage. Sure this is a pricy place but you do get what you pay for. The service is the best you can get. The servers and bartenders knew their stuff. They knew the answers to our questions like what is vegetarian, what ingredients were in what dish, and were mindful of peoples allergies. Not only that but they treated all of us with kindness. They were friendly, accommodating, and served all of us with a smile. This is a place where you can spend an evening with people who genuinely want you there. A restaurant with a fascinating history, an event space for a office party, and a romantic place for a first date is what the Wednesday Room is clearly for. Who says that Wednesdays child is full of woe? when you have a room that is not just tasteful and winsome but approachable and inclusive? If you are looking for a deserving reward after a hard weeks of work then make a stop here. After all, All work and no play...
Great food. Decent service.
Loved the food and drinks here! Came here for a work dinner, and I got the arctic char (delicious) and quite a few of their cocktail options. I particularly liked Toil & Trouble, it was like an apple pie in a glass. By the end of the night, I was just going with the dealers choice for drinks. I love how you can just say, I want something like my last drink, but sweeter/less sweet, or with this alcohol, or this flavour. Really felt like a personable touch!
Excellent experience, cant wait to rebook next year!
Holly was an absolute pro at the bar! Thanks!
