Ive been going to Bucannans since 1988! I was there last night for a corporate function in the private room. We had a great time, good food and drinks. Great hospitality and very happy to see Mike and Carol Bucannon after many years. I posted my bar stool from 1990 when they renovated the bar! Happy times, great place. I send the Bucannons my love and respect

Awesome upscale pub right downtown in eau Claire. Patio is always a great spot. Only place I know of in town that you can get a burger medium, and thank goodness for that.

My partner and I had burgers. Top quality beef, very tasty and well presented. The side of onion rings were the best Ive had in many years. The jalapeno burger was cooked perfectly with the proper amount of jalapeno peppers. The dessert was not what we ordered but ok. We ordered pecan pie but received chocolate pie with pecans on top and in the chocolate filling. Tried to correct the order but the server insisted it was pecan pie. The pie was not to my liking as it was frozen and needed a fork to cut and only a spoon was provided. Spoiled the overall meal.

Great food, service and atmosphere went for lunch and tried the braised beef pasta! It was excellent, server was friendly and coffee was fresh. Quite an extensive whisky collection as well!

Some of the staff have been here 30+ years, so that tells you they are amazing employers who treat their staff well. It shows in every aspect of this experience. Are the prices low? No. Is the service 5 diamond? Yes. Hands down I recommend this establishment.

Ive had great coffee here before but never eaten. Today I ate....fabulous soup and a sandwich. The soup was delicious, cheddar and broccoli and the turkey sandwich was substantial...really good eatery and Id definitely go again for food... only critical comment, is I truly do not appreciate being told that our table was reserved at 3pm, when we sat it was 12.30! If my custom is not appreciated in the moment then I guess Im not important enough as a customer!!!

We had a nice meal during yyc food experience week. The red snapper, seasonal veg, and key lime pie were great. Service was friendly and efficient. As it was my friends birthday, we received complimentary coffee since dessert was already included in our lunch. Paid parking available on the street.

Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Why go to a chain when you can eat at a family owned amazing restaurant? 100% locally owned and operated. No franchise. Real food, and one of the best collections of Whisky in the city.

Bar Only. Bar service was EXCELLENT! The bartender took a lot of time to explain scotch choices and nuances. Food was very good for the small amount of gluten-free (celiac) appetizer/snack choices. The atmosphere is fine but nothing noteworthy. Dietary restrictions: Bar appies for gluten-free do not exist however you can ask you and get at least one from the restaurant sode menu.

We went last week for supper in the Bar area. The food was horrible, wings were cold dry and over sauced, steak was supposed to be medium and was well done and very chewy. Service and beer was great. not sure how this place got so many great reviews.

A Calgary institution with the best Scotch and general whisky collection in the city. The food is meat-fare, and pairs well with house beers and drams. The wine menu is the most well written comedy to ever come out of Alberta, and the staff is absolutely stellar. The weekly burger and steak deals are the best in the city. 10/10 eat here as often as you possibly can.

I recently visited Buchanans for their Bacon Cheeseburger for lunch, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. Ive been a regular here and always enjoyed their burgers, but today was different. Despite their claim of using fresh ground sirloin, the meat in my burger didnt seem ground at all. It appeared to be large chunks of ungrounded meat hastily packed together. This inconsistency left me feeling a bit grossed out, especially since I was expecting their usual deliciousness. The kitchen manager kindly offered to make me another burger, but after the unpleasant first bites, I felt too nauseous to try another. I settled for their fries, which were thankfully still good. However, I couldnt help but feel that they could have done more to make up for the disappointing burger, perhaps offering a dessert or a little discount on the bill. Instead, I received the full check without any acknowledgment of the subpar meal. While I understand that mistakes can happen, I cant help but wonder if others have experienced similar issues with their burgers. Consistency is key for any restaurant, and unfortunately, theor Bacon Cheeseburger fell short of their usual standards this time.

We had a group of 20 in last night. They set us up an separate room and a team of their friendly and attentive staff catered to our every need. The scotch selection is second to none and the food was Michelin star quality. I was blown away. A triple wood, and Guinness, to start, followed by a delicious glass of Deerfield, paired with an incredible rack of lamb, my mouth is still watering. Beef ribs a foot long, mouthwatering steaks, monster sandwiches , you cant go wrong. I would recommend Buchanons for any occasion, you wont be disappointed. Great job you guys, we had a blast.

This was my first visit to Buchanans, and it was an alright experience. The service, food and atmosphere were all average. I think that where they do their best to express diversity in a traditional Chophouse the flavor, presentation and ingredients just fall a bit flat. When you make the claim that you have the best burger in the city you raise expectations to a place that might do more harm than good. The people that work here were all friendly though our server nearly made someone at our table wear their soup through a lack of awareness while they were holding the saucer tilted, but they were very polite and great at explaining the special. As far as the atmosphere goes this place has some appeal in the history hung over the walls but its nothing you havent seen before. Overall, I wouldnt complain about going again but it wouldnt be my first choice.

We had date night there and got the big steak to share which was cooked perfectly. The sides it came with were also delicious. We ordered a side of onions rings and they were so greasy we couldnt eat them, but that was fine as we were so full from the rest of the meal. The service was great and the whiskey selection is amazing. Looking forward to coming back and trying the burgers!

A classic that had lasted decades for a reason! The food was amazing - the potstickers hit the spot, the burger and onion rings are truly the best in town (and cooked how you like it!), and the dessert the perfect ending to a great night. The whiskey list was as extensive they claim and you can get a decent glass of wine for less than 15 bucks! The service was amazing, the food came out hot and the vibe was genuinely comfortable and welcoming. A new favourite and cant wait to go back!

Average food, dated place and below average services, waiter was drained, not a single smile through the entire time, did not provide any info about the food or the daily special, we got rushed out although we were the only table.

We came for a lunch and what a treat it was here. The steak sandwich was made with ribeye, so full of flavour with every bite. With so many whisky and scotch options, they had actual whisky glasses, cant wait to come back to try their whisky flight as well.

The waiter was too busy. He forgot to ask us how did we want for the steak. He typed in wrong amount to charge.

Given the proximity to downtown and McDougall... its highly likely youll also run into some key decision makers. It is a calgary, provincial equivalent to a few places I know in Washington, DC.

Buchanan s Chop House has a fantastic atmosphere! The staff and service were absolutely amazing with an authentic Alberta vibe. I was welcomed as soon as I passed through the doors. And the food was absolutely delicious. One of the best mouth watering Alberta Steaks I have ever had. The wine suggested perfectly paired with my meal and I enjoyed a smooth whiskey to finish off the evening. I highly recommend all locals or anyone travelling to Calgary to come dine at Buchanan s. A family run buisness that truly cares about their patrons.

Conner was an amazing server, and the food was amazing! Loved the Rack of Lamb. Also, the whiskey selection is top notch! They claim to have one of the largest selections of scotchs and whiskeys in Canada, and looking at their selection, its easy to believe that!!

Absolutely worst experience. The person was rude when making a reservation and the taller lanky guy worker is rude and looks like he hates his job, I ordered a medium rare ribeye they gave me a angus beef fillet that was smaller than my mouth, and on top of that it was burnt and cooked all the way though, and on top of that i waited over 45 min for my food. Absolutely disgusting people had there dirty dogs putting there paws on the table after probably stepping there own poo and pee, i have 3 dogs and i know how they are and they do not belong in restaurants

Think Cheers, Calgary version. Excellent food combined with impeccable service from long-term staff makes all the difference. I highly recommend making some time to get acquainted with their 2-room Whiskey collection if all youd like is a drink or 2. If youre having lunch or dinner, the clam chowder and burger are easy go-tos, but the menu is quite extensive, and Ive never been disappointed here in over 2 decades of going here for private or business dinners and lunches and even larger festive gatherings. Parking: Get your ParkPlus set up, you will always find a spot within 2 blocks.

I always enjoy coming here. Oddly, I have never had a steak or burger here! I very much enjoy the tuna wasabi Ceasar salad. I think this is the only salad that I ever come back to at any establishment! The drop in star is only because of pricing. I do feel that it is a bit over priced. I must try the burger though! Evidently, happy hour is the time to go!

Excellent scotch list. Been going there since the 80s. Location & neighborhood greatly changed. Food good, specials priced well. Decor tired, should have upgraded washrooms during covid downtime. Interesting mix of clients. Couples, divorced buddies on night-out, tables of single younger gals as well birthday celebration, neighborhood customers from surrounding buildings. Wait staff outstanding

The food was outstanding, but the service was a bit off. We ordered filet mignon and salmon, but somehow, the server heard cheese burger instead of steak. We send the burger back, and waited for the steak. In the end, we had to pack up the steak to-go. I had the salmon and it was very well prepared. It must have been an off day for the staff, because the server forgot to take the burger off the bill. We have been here many times over the years, so we will be back.

Waiters were very good but food was not as expected. My steak was over cooked but it tasted good. Its just when you are paying the higher price for a high end restaurant you expect better.

Came to try the burgers because I heard about them being the best in town and was not disappointed. One of the few places that will make a burger med rare. Looking foward to coming back and trying steak and dining in nexttime.

I stopped here yesterday after baking in the sun for a bit and had the most amazing waitress and bartender that went well beyond the standard. I felt so welcome and cared for they treated us like friends I ve never had this level of service and care in my life. My waitress was sooooo kind and sweet and took amazing care of us and gave us so much personal attention and extra care and made sure we got plenty of water and even gave us electrolyte packs she was so sweet thank you guys so much you truly made our experience one to remember thank you for taking the time to make us feel so special.

Our office has been going to Buchanans for more than 25 years. The food is consistently great, the service is friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is fun and professional. We enjoy their delicious and interesting snack items. They have the best potato skins in Calgary. They are not greasy, not too salty, and very tasty, using applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and fresh green onion. Buchanans has taken their potato skins off of their regular menu and now only serves them occasionally, but hopefully they will bring them back as a regular menu item. Thanks to the kitchen staff who still makes them for us by request.

Shrimp appetizer sucks!!! Not worth the $20 I paid for it lack of flavour and the dipping sauce is very weak as well. Would not recommend.

The food was tasty but the portion size was a bit small. The atmosphere doesn t match the menu. The menu is for a five star restaurant and the atmosphere is for a two star. Also They charge five dollars for splitting the bill which I thought was a bit much.

Id never been before, went for my buddies birthday and the food was amazing. Whiskey selection was quite good too. The pork chop was incredible. Ill definitely be back.

My wifes retirement party was held here, the service was excellent and the food delicious with extremely large servings. Highly recommended. It also has the largest selection of Whiskies in Calgary.

Over priced!!! $20 Caesar salad is 3 or 4 romaine lettuce leaves (uncut) with a Wasabi type dressing, nothing else! It was disgusting and certainly not a Caesar salad. Popcorn shrimp was OK, but again over priced. Chicken burger was OK, but very similar to a Wendys chicken sandwich. Again very overpriced! Waitress was good, but did get 2 out of 4 orders wrong.

Maybe the worst Ribeye Ive ever had at a restaurant. Chewy, stringy, fat was hard and not rendered, very undercooked. Coworker had the tenderloin ordered medium and it was blue rare. If youre charging $69 for a steak this is completely unacceptable. Serving that Ribeye precludes you from calling yourself a Chophouse. Have had much better steaks at a pipeline conference buffet. Blue Buck beer was flat and tasted off. Left 2 stars because the waiter was efficient and good, and the battered shrimp was tasty In a delicious sauce. Staff comped us a round but should have taken those steaks off the bill. Youre a steakhouse, its the only thing you need to nail.

Just a legendary Calgary spot with amazing food, helpful, inviting service, and one of the best whiskey walls in town.

Had high expectations for the steak here as I have had the weekday happy hour $15 bacon cheeseburger and fries special several times and it was delicious. Friends invited us to dinner Saturday evening and it was very busy but there seemed to be lots of servers. Friends shared a lobster mac and cheese and absolutely raved about it (I dont like fish or seafood so I didnt try it). I ordered the demonico ribeye for $69 and a starter caesar salad came with it. It was simply lettuce with their famous dressing which was terrible in my opinion. No croutons, parm, nothing. We had to wait a long time for the mains but we killed the time chatting as we hadnt seen each other in some time. One friend ordered the steak sandwich while the other other ordered the New York. My partner didnt order food as he was unwell and having discomfort. We all requested medium doneness but they were well done and chewy/tough. Something I found odd was that mine was small, round and thick leaving me to think I might have received filet mignon. Nope, definitely not. I mentioned to the server that it seemed well done and she just brushed it off saying that because it was thick it would take longer to cook so it would be well done on the outside? The steak was very disappointing since it was overdone and tough. The friend with the New York was disappointed too but he didnt want to send it back because he said he was too hungry to wait another hour! The aioli was tasty. And the double baked potato waa delicious but very small, more like a fingerling type potato. The portion of vegetables was a good size but i didnt eat those. Although the other friends steak sandwich was overdone she liked it but hers came with bread, mushrooms and cheese so that helped jazz it up for sure. She also had a coffee which she liked. I told the server my steak wasnt very good at all (after I ate it all HA!) I hadnt wanted to send mine back either since I was so hungry. She just sort of brushed it off but did offer a dessert to compensate and I chose the sticky toffee pudding which was very good. My friends also ordered and enjoyed it. I dont know if the server charged for it or not since I didnt pay the bill. Id go back for the burger any day but never the steak. I dont know if the server was so busy our food sat too long in the kitchen or what but I wouldnt want to take the chance on ordering it again.

FAN-TASTIC! The atmosphere was lovely, really relaxing vibes. They know a thing or two about whiskey and every other type of booze. But the food! Wow doesnt cover how good the food was. The best steak Ive ever had with the best malbec to pair with it. Round off the evening with dessert and you have the ingredients for the best evening of the year.

Went in for a steak . Tasted like it was microwaved , same with the fries. They coat the garlic bread with wet spinach so even thats soggy... Will never go back . Just awful experience. You cant have that poor quality food and be a successful business.

Brilliant. We liked it so much that we repeated! The service is excellent, the variety of drinks, the atmosphere is phenomenal. If you go, you have to order the meat and for dessert, the cheesecake, one of the best I have ever eaten, was delicious. Of course, I totally recommend it.

Came for lunch, paid over $200 for these. Steak tastes like the AAA you get from supermarket and cook on your bbq machine. Flat bread is what you can get from coop. Extremely low value. Patio was okay and service was good.

Buchanans was a wonderful treat, we hadnt been dining in a restaurant for nearly two years. The restaurant was surprisingly busy, maintaining any physical distancing was nearly impossible. Anne had a steak sandwich & I had a small piece of tenderloin. Both were cooked to perfection and had an interesting selection of nicely prepared vegetables. The wait staff were wonderfully attentive and quite entertaining and funny. A very nice evening all around.

Buchanans (I think I talked to James) was amazing. My parents are moving to Calgary and I wanted to get them a gift card for dinner/lunch and they handled the conversation and transaction amazingly. I only wish I lived closer to experience the food and dinning experience. Thankyou!
