Excellent customer experience throughout. I had the Porterhouse which was perfectly cooked, as well as the signature Tableside Caesar Salad. Would highly recommend for business or family dinners.

I had a great experience here. Steak was cook perfectly and tasted excellent. The Caesar salad sauce was on the best level of taste, prepared in front of us.

Came for Wellington. Was disappointed - uncomfortable playing, too small for the price compared to other restaurants and a meat not cooked through smooth everywhere.

Horrible service. Waited 20 minutes at the bar waiting for someone to serve us and they went to everyone but us. When we got in, the bartender literally put up the glasses of water menu and iPad with no hello, and in such a rude manner.

We were there with a group of 10 people for a work function. Everything was excellent, food, service, ambience, etc.

My boyfriend is the best, if it werent for him my experience would not have been so amazing. It is not always the service it is the person that you are with that makes the experience worthwhile.

Place is amazing, service / vibe is amazing! The food is a bit subpar - you won t leave hungry but it does lack flavor. But, the cocktails are amazing - had an Old Fashion that was perfect

Will never be back. Server very poor, spilled red wine on floor, drops hit table and three patrons, no apologies. We had to summon him to get drinks as he would not come by our table. Water glass hit the floor, again no apologies from our server. Two meals returned because not prepared properly. Forced to pay 20% tip even though food and service sub par.

Went to Hy s for the first time. The quality of service from DINO went inexplicably above and beyond our expectations. Going forward when I come back I will specifically ask for a table reservation that is being served by DINO. If you want to be made feel special during your dinner experience I cannot recommend enough that you seek DINO out.

Great steakhouse in the heart of Calgary. Not a lot of parking. Prices are high but it is fine dining. Expect to pay $150 per person or more. The atmosphere reminds me of a refined steakhouse from 50s or 60s. They have a coat check at the front. The staff are friendly and very efficient. I wasnt loving dessert but the steaks are amazing. Decent wine selection as well.

I love this restaurant ! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great but what is the most important detail for me is the outstanding service we get every time from DINO , he has been serving our table for over 7 years and he always has a warm smile to offer with amazing wine recommendations . I always order the dishes he prepares in front of our table ( spinach salad , steak Diane , banana dessert )so I have the pleasure to see him prepare and serve my meal and it never disappoints.

One of the best in Canada.

Its Hys Steakhouse. One of the best steakhouses in Calgary for generations. As one of the top steak restaurants the is fantastic and the service is excellent.

Just when you think they cant raise their game any higher Hys manages to find a way. We attended the Calgary locations 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sept 26th and it was spectacular. The event was flawlessly organized and orchestrated by the Hys team, the food was next level even by Hys standards and the service exceeded anything we have experienced anywhere in North America even in the finest hotels. Bryant Olender added a classic background with piano and vocal stylings that perfectly suited the atmosphere. It was certainly the best evening we have at Hys over the last decade, and I dont think Im overstating it to say it was a Once in a Lifetime experience. Wrapped up our annual hiking trip from Glacier / Banff with a visit to Hys and what a way to end the trip. This was my first time visiting Calgary and we were so glad to have found this place. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was amazing. Our server was tremendous and made us feel right at home. (I believe her name was Dominqua, but I may be spelling this wrong. If it helps whoever reads these from the restaurant, we were in the lounge near the piano player around 7pm on Sat night 9/28). We ended up getting the Tuna, Crab Cake, and Prawn cocktail for appetizers, then ordering the Rib Steak for our main course. I also have to point out how incredible the mashed potatoes were. Seriously, they were best Ive had in years. I would 100 pct visit again if ever in the area. Exceptional food and service, highly recommended for anyone visiting Calgary.

First week of October was in Calgary and dining in this downtown restaurant was very pleasant, food was very tasty, ambiance was the best and service was immaculate

My kids like steak and they fully enjoyed our dinner here.

Was recommended Hy s by a friend and it did not disappoint. Came during happy hour so some dishes and drinks were discounted but the Steak au Poivre was cooked perfectly. We were lucky to get some live music too, props to the musician playing Springsteen amongst other classics. Service was great!

Had a salmon lunch there and it was stunning!

Went here with a larger group for a work lunch. Ordered the steak sandwich. Figured: Hey, its a good steak restaurant! I know its lunch, but theyll probably have a good steak sandwich, right? Like, a better cut than average for a steak sandwich, better garlic bread, and probably a house BBQ or HP-style brown sauce, but better...... Nope. Worst steak sandwich Ive had at a restaurant ever. Their garlic bread is toast thats been near garlic and butter. Their steak was straight up mediocre. Like average-45-year-old-dude-who-likes-budweiser-grilling-an-unseasonedd-superstore-sirloin mediocre. No sauce. At all. WILDLY bland. Like, crazy bland. Embarassing that this is apparently one of CALGARYs good steakhouses. I prefer the Keg.

Very posh, classy restaurant, with excellent service and amazingly tasty food. This place is built for steak aficionados, and almost everything on the menu is 9/10 or 10/10. Great presentation of food, not too intrusive, but attentive service, cozy atmosphere make this place a perfect one for a business meeting, a private celebration event, or a classy date. I will definitely be back!

My first experience at Hys Steakhouse just blew me away. From the second we walked in the door, the service from everyone was top-notch, from the greeters at the door to the bartenders. Our waiter Dino was absolutely incredible, engaging in conversation with us while giving us above and beyond service. The atmosphere and food was amazing - 10 stars from me! And a personal thank you from the manager as we left just topped it off. Thank you to all the staff at Hys - what a great team effort!

Excellent food. Obviously for the price you paid for! Crab cake is on the small side and that s the only flaw. But everything else was fantastic!!!

We arrived slightly underdressed as we are on a long trip through Canada. Nobody bothered. We enjoyed fillet steaks, I cant remember the last time I was able to enjoy such an excellent piece of meat. Live music contributed to the appropriately cool ambience. I would particularly like to highlight the excellent performance of John, who was responsible for our table. It was a great pleasure to be his guest, competent, friendly, good suggestions, time for small talk, it couldnt be better. I can highly recommend Hys.

I had an outstanding experience at Hys! Despite being pressed for time, the staff ensured everything was perfectly timed. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, and the service was exceptional. Had a great experience at Hys tonight. Our waiter Evandro was incredibly professional and provided great service throughout the night; he was able to answer any questions we had and helped us navigate the menu. I quite enjoyed watching the open grill from the kitchen which I thought was a really cool concept. The kitchen was very incredibly accomodating of allergies and I enjoyed the Tuscan Pasta, while my girlfriend loved her Beef Wellington. The bartender made an excellent Martini. Fabulous dining experience at Hy s. Impressive eclectic decor and atmosphere mixed with old school high end steakhouse flair and service. The Steak Filet and accoutrement was exactly what the doctor ordered after a long day of touring Calgary s downtown core. Thanks again for a dynamite meal and live music experience.

I have never had a bad experience here, food, servers and atmosphere are great ever single time. A bit on the more expensive end, but its defiantly worth it. Cheese Toast is all I have to say!!

We came to Calgary from Edmonton almost entirely just to go to Hys restaurant and we were amazed again. It has become a highlight of travel for me to try and come to Hys restaurant. Probably one of the best restaurants in the country. Food is always mind blowing. Cocktails are unique and so well made. Wine list is exceptional. Well worth the drive. Oh and I think the keylime pie is worth taking a second piece to go every time.

It was so convenient because there was a Korean server! The food was the best steak Ive had in Canada. The servers friendliness and thoughtfulness were also top notch! If you are looking for a steakhouse in Calgary, I highly recommend it! And cheese toast goes well with wine and beer! Be sure to try it~!!

The food was good. We were in a private function room, with a limited impression of the atmosphere.

Often a space becomes a place we remember because of the people we encounter there. Sarah who served us made the Hy s dining experience so memorable. She clearly takes great pride in her work and her 70-year-old establishment. The meal was very simple but everything was made close to perfection. We had to taste the famous cheese toast which while nice warm was a bit doughy. The Caeser salad dressed by Sarah was among the best I have had in a long time. This unlike the cheese toast is something I will order again next time. The salad was followed by an exceptionally high quality lunch of steak frites which would put many a Parisian bistro to complete shame. What more could one ask for apart from a bit more room in the stomach? This place is as fine as it can get so do treat yourself when you can.

We were super excited to share a birthday without kids at Hys, as we have been here before. We came for happy hour at 330pm. The lounge and restaurant were dead, and we did not know that happy hour prices were only available in the lounge - so our bill was $40-50 extra for sitting 10 feet away. Service was great, they are very nice and attentive. Food was less than mediocre. The Cacio de pepe was literally the equivalent of Michelinas frozen pasta (Michelinas might have been better). It was noodles in a white sauce with pepper. When the server asked how things were, he knew right away and almost seemed embarrassed. We will not be returning despite the lovely staff.

Recently went to Hys for a date night with my partner and honestly adored this place. Hys is a restaurant thats all about the experience, and the staff nails it. Kim was servicing our table, and she was honestly the best. She has a great personality and she really heightened our experience, I really enjoyed talking to her. She really went above and beyond to make our experience a good one, and I really appreciated that. The food was amazing as well, I highly recommend the steak Diane.

Just excellent.

Ordered a peppercorn steak with the sauce on the side. Really enjoyed that the steak was encased in peppercorn, giving it a good amount of heat and flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly based on my stated preference. Unfortunately I did not have sufficient room to finish the sides - I actually assumed the steak would be served alone with sharing sides optional. Service was friendly but lacked the upscale, fine dining standards one might find at other steakhouses. This may be because we sat in the dimly lit lounge area. In addition, I found the couple seated next to us classless. Granted not something the restaurant or servers can control. Suffice to say, next time Id take a seat in the dining area over the lounge.

Celebrated our anniversary here last night, and it was amazing as always. We had Steak Neptune and Steak Au Poivre, both delicious! The atmosphere is always great and our server Dino, was the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend! Cheers, Shane

I love everything about this place. The lounge has a great happy hour and the food is great, garlic cheese bread, oysters, lobster rolls, etc. Victor the lounge waiter was fantastic, suggested a different gin for me and now it s a favourite.

Hy s never lets you down! After showing up for our dinner reso and finding out that DaVinci s Steakhouse is temporarily closed as per their Google page and the locked doors..we decided to go to Hy s. Service was top notch from hostesses to our professional and friendly server Viktor. Food was amazing as always and the atmosphere was made even better with a live band.

I went there with my husband for our anniversary. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious.

The filet mignon with bernaise sauce was amazing. The mashed potatoes were great with gravy.

It s fine for what it is. It suffers by comparison to really good steakhouses, and it s a bit louder and busier than is traditional for them as well. My Gorgozola filet was all right, but I didn t feel like the cheese on top added much to my overall enjoyment. I think I d try the Diane if I went again.

I had dinner tonight at Hys Steakhouse in Calgary for the first time and ordered a cheese toast, 6 Oz filet and an apple crumble. The toast was very delicious, steak was done in perfection and the dessert complemented the dinner! Overall food was great, service was very good and Dino, my server, was very courteous and very attentive.

Despite being left with just water for the first fifteen minutes; the service was still ok to me since they had a busy night. Ceasar salad with tobasco tasted kind of weird. French onion soup was a bit salty. Wellington beef was cooked medium rare perfectly as I asked for.

Hys has been a long time favorite and highly recommend it for the food, the service, the collection and the ambience. Sophisticated decor, high quality food and beverages and friendly service all make for a great dinner or even late afternoon cocktails.

Used 2b one of the best in Calgary but frankly i was very disappointed during our most recent visit in 2024. They used to have the best ceaser salad n the burger. The problem is burger is only served at the lounge. Well, i guess one has to try both n decide on their own which side they may like better. This time we had dinner at the restaurant side both our ceaser salads & steaks were below average. Then we had lunch at the bar side again food was not good. Then i had a take out ceaser salad from the bar side which was a disaster. Unfortunately, Hys is no longer a top restaurant in Calgary. Either their chefs or management or both must have changed to become so below average. What a pity. Vegetarian options: They have some options on the menu Dietary restrictions: Listen if u have too many restrictions maybe this is not the place to eat. Meats, salty stuff, all those fries, dressings, deserts, nope it wont work. Parking: Parking is next door, i think entrance is from 7th Ave Kid-friendliness: Not really Wheelchair accessibility: Yes

My first time! Food was amazing - my 12oz filet with mash and veggies was easily made gluten free and cooked to perfection. The creme brulee was so-so, more like a jello pudding than an actual egg brulee. As for atmosphere, I was hoping/expecting a place like this to have live piano music or something really classy but instead they had a DJ which made conversation difficult at my table for 10.

Food was wonderful and service was great. Our meal however was ruined by the amount of fruit flys that were present in the dining room. It became so bad we asked to switch seats. They were in our lamp and walls and I had managed to kill three and leave them on the table. They was still many left buzzing around our head and plate.

I recently took my brother to Hy s Steakhouse for his birthday lunch. The space is beautifully overwhelming, slightly pretentious, yet it oozes class and a rich sense of history. We started with the zucchini carpaccio, escargot and cheese toast. The carpaccio was elegantly plated and very well balanced. The escargot was deliciously scrumptious and the the cheese toast is a must. For our mains I had the fillet cooked Chicago medium rare. My steak was outstanding, it was done perfectly. My brother had the steak sandwich and by his empty plate it hit all the marks. One thing I learned that I didn t know before was that Hy s was founded and began in Calgary. If you re lucky enough you ll get Sarah as your server and she ll be able to guide you through the menu as well as the history of this remarkable establishment. I will definitely be back.

They brought my friend a steak that looked mid-rare when she asked for mid-well, and there was pink in my burger patty (which I was assured would be well done). I expect a lot better from a neighborhood pub, much less a place like this.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary here and wouldn t do that again! Gave night club vibes not a romantic dinner atmosphere. Service was sub par with the waiter having too many tables to deal with at once. Wasn t even comp dessert. Next time we will be going to Vintage or Caesar s Steakhouse.

3 people at my table ordered the Beef Wellington which comes medium or medium rare - I opted for medium. When cut down the middle, all 3 beef wellingtons were super rare. Other guests in our party ordered different steak dishes and they were good. Dessert was good - cheesecake, bananas foster and key lime. Caesar salad made table side was below expectations for a nicer steakhouse. The entire time our server looked like he was upset to be there (we got a good laugh though from it) Overall the experience had some highs and lows so it averaged out.

One of the best steaks I have had. I had new york strip and my girlfriend had filet mignon, both were amazing. Really liked their tartar, it was prepared table side which was nice(check the video). Drinks wise highlight was espresso martini, it tasted pretty good. We went there for our 1 year anniversary, happy anniversary on the dessert plate was a nice touch. My friends and I went to Hys on March 9th for a friends birthday. Im not really all that picky and typically give everything for a 7/10 or 4/5 star review. Unfortunately Hys was an experience to forget for me. The cheese toast was nothing special, it tasted like goldfish crackers on bread. The steal Tartar was the only thing on the menu that actually tasted pretty good. Between the toast, tartar and the steak Neptune... something caused the worst stomach bug of my life. Ive had diarrhea before, but this was something else. I went through 3 costco TP rolls in 3 days after going to Hys. My friends had mixed reviews but I was the only one that ordered something different and got sick. Also- everyone has bad days, I totally get that. But our server seemed like he really didnt want to be there. Pretty disappointing considering youre spending $150 for the night.

The highest service & an enjoyable experience in one of the most reputable restaurants in calgary. Food was beyond delicious & our server Dino was very informative with any questions we asked. What a classy restaurant. From the moment you walk in everyone makes you feel so welcome. The food is delicious, the ambience exceptional. A perfect place for a celebration. (It was my wifes birthday) And to top it all off our waiter, Deano, brought elegance to our table: he was professional and fun without being too intrusive. In many ways he was like the conductor of an orchestra: making sure everything was co-ordinated and on time and cooked to our complete satisfaction. I visited Hy s in Calgary awhile back. Overall, this restaurant has a nice atmosphere/decor. The Canadian Black Angus bone-in rib steak was good (the marbling was really good) and I d give it 8.3/10 considering the price.

This was our first time at HY. What an awesome ,hip place . Live DJ, great bar area and dinning room . We had great service, food was fabulous and price was very fair . Definitely coming back !!! Thanks Hy!!

Had one night in Calgary and Hy s was the place we were told to go. Cocktails were perfectly prepared. We shared a wedge salad, 10oz. New York Strip, baked potato, Brussels and mushrooms. Everything was outstanding. Mike, our service was excellent. Highly recommend Hy s.

This is the first time I visit Hy in Calgary. I tried the Hy in Winnipeg last year and it was so salty. But this time in Calgary it s perfectly cooked and the non-alcohol drink is also very good

Came here for New Year s Eve dinner, and had hands-down, one of the best dining experiences and service ever! You could tell our waitress Kim loves her job. Right from the cheese bread, table side Caesar salad to the crème brûlée . everything was mouth melt watering If you re looking for a fine dining experience, this place will not disappoint.

Went to Hy s for the first time to celebrate New Year s Eve and our anniversary and everything was perfect from the minute we walked in, to the minute we walked out. Ethan was our server and made our experience amazing. Everything came out so fast and was ate even faster! We had the porterhouse and New York strip and both were THE BEST steaks we ve ever had. When we left, we got our coats and I couldn t believe that I was offered to have my jacket put on for me. Will definitely be going back again and recommending Hy s to anyone who has not been before. Parking: Tons of underground parking. The time we went, parking was free Wheelchair accessibility: Elevators from the parking garage to the mall and into the restaurant. Ramps and I don t believe there are any steps inside the restaurant

After a lengthy family discussion and a coin toss here comes the review for a saturday night outing, day before New Years, to avoid the rush and hopeful on getting a slightly better meal for the same reason. The steak was a flop. I cant be nice about it at all as this is the first time where I couldnt wait to get home to eat something that didnt taste like charred leather, keeping in mind i asked for med-rare. 0/10. The Tuna however was the highlight, the cheese toast? I dont see or understand the raves behind it but so be it. The half chicken Im told was decent enough. We didnt get a desert and were frankly ready to leave immediately when we got the bill which, honestly, there are better steak houses that are more affordable, especially when one main was a shared dish. Drinks; a cesar and wine. Cant really go wrong there. The others just had a soda. Overall - not good. Wouldnt go back and certainly wouldnt recommend. I do want a make a final note of the staff, however, they were honest enough to understand various frustrations, very friendly and extremely pleasant.

A very elegant dining experience. The steak was cooked perfect. Caeser salad and cheese toast were also very impressive. Highly recommend you experience this gem at least once!

Pricey, but worth it

Dino was literally the best server I have ever had. Just going above and beyond to make me and my friends feel welcome and attended to really made my experience unforgettable. Cheers Hys. And give Dino a raise.

The staff are so lovely and unpretentious - refreshing for a high-end establishment. Food is excellent and wines are well recommended. Atmosphere is rich and cozy and the lighting is perfect. Hys > Major Tom

Came here for a friends birthday had the Wellington it was good but wasnt medium rare, also had the French onion soup which was fantastic one of the best I ever had. Service was good and liked the the place Only giving it 3 stars because a few of my friends steaks came out not the way they wanted it and I mean for what they charge for the steaks come on....

One of the better happy hours out there. Food was great...service was a little lacklustre. Several members of our group let the server know ahead of time that they had an event to go, and it still took forever to get her back around when it came time to pay. They ended up late for said event.

The waiter we had at the time wasnt very well trained I believe he should not be at a restaurant of this caliber. He would ask questions never let you finish answering argued constantly. I ask for a less expensive tequila in a mixed drink , as well an ounce neat in a glass patron grand burdeos, which is not to be fixed but sipped and appreciated. Drinks came they made them the other way around. I tried to point this out . He just argued its correct. I was done . My oldest daughter then should him it was made the wrong way . Anyhow I would go back hope hes gone though

Visited here Jan 20 for a birthday party and dinned in the private room with bookshelves and wine storage. The ambiance is definitely top notch and our waiter Evandro was very professional. I also loved the live music but I m taking a star for the very limited menu option.

Great steak. Good service. The night we were there there was a big party next to us. I felt the service suffered a little bit. Usually the service is impeccable.

First time at Hys Steakhouse. One word comes to mind when you walk in and sit at your table. Iconic Service is amazing and the food does not disappoint. Yes it is not cheap but you get what you pay for here. One of the best meals Ive had all year. Do yourself a favour and order more cheese toast than you think!

We had a good time. Ordered all the table sides, that is a nice touch. Can recommend it. Wasnt super blown away by the food, but it was good. All with all, I enjoyed the experience, but it wont be my new favourite steakhouse. Service was very formal and good.

Bartender, a young fella, friendly and attentive.....all can ask for when sitting at the bar!

Delicious steaks, great service

We had lunch at Hys in celebration of our colleague going on maternity leave. The food, service and atmosphere was great and I have no complaints there. I didnt give 5 stars for the overall rating and service because we got charged for water without being told that the water that was being served wasnt free. We just get asked Sparkling or Still? but without knowing that there was an option (is there one?) that we can have free tap water. Water should be assumed free unless the customer asks for bottled water by name. Im pretty sure Im not the only customer who discovered this charge unknowingly.

Elevated experience. Excellent venue to host clients or a romantic dinner with your partner.

The 20oz Ribeye Steak was terrible considering the price; half of it was inedible and filled with chunks of fat. Among Chairmens, Vintage, and Ruths Chris, I would rank this as the least favorable steakhouse I have visited. It was my first and last time going to Hys.

Great place for meeting. Service is second to none. Food is just as good. The perfect place for meetings and has food everyone will like.

Dino was amazing. Such a great guy. Paid good attention and made great reservations. He made our night special. We will be coming back just Cos of Dino.

They have a great happy hour with a high end moody atmosphere. The food we ordered was very tasty, I had the soup and grilled cheese combo. We also had their infamous cheese toast and tomato soup. It got quite full by the time we left! Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly.

We had a fantastic extended family meal here. The food was spectacular and we were able to dine in a private room, which made it great for visiting. Our server, Dino made the evening spectacular. His tableside preparations were entertaining and delicious. Will definitely be back and wil be sure to ask for Dino again!
