Located in the historic Hudson’s Bay building in downtown Calgary, The Guild is for dining, drinks and private events. Spanning two floors and featuring one of Calgary’s largest patios, The Guild is a nod to the guildhalls of the past, which served as meeting places for artists and merchants. Honouring local beef, game and fowl, and utilizing traditional cooking techniques over wood and coal, The Guild chefs are preparing a fitting homage to proud Canadian carnivores.
The tenderloin was delicious. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes until we got a server at our table though. It has a nice vibe, but the tv screens showing a fireplace is a bit tacky.
Dined here with family on a Friday night during the holiday season. It was definitely the place to be, great atmosphere and an awesome waitress. I was looking forward to having the old fashioned, but they were out of the ingredients to make this. The kitchen was a little backed up, and we did have to wait longer than expected for the food to arrive, if we have known, we would have ordered more appetizers. The short rib dish I ordered was worth the wait.
I have been to the Guild a few times now and have nothing but good things to say! The food is amazing and the happy hour menu is great! Cocktails are delicious and the service by all staff from the time you walk in to the time you walk out are fabulous! The atmosphere is awesome with different areas you can dine depending on your vibe and also the season (winter or summer) I work in the hotel industry and often recommend our guests to go here and they always come back to tell me it was a good choice! Keep up the great work!
The place is absolutely awesome. We had a corporate event and loved evey bit of it. Even though, the menu isn't that long, I enjoyed the food very much. The service was outstanding. We will definitely visit again.
Do yourself a favour and eat here as soon as possible! We started with the steak tartare and ordered the 34 ounce Porterhouse medium rare with the creamy mashed potatoes and broccolini. Both were amazing! The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Our server Sophia was gracious and checked on us exactly when we needed her to. The manager Brad went out of his way to not only greet us and ask us about our weekend but he also gave us the perfect recommendations on the food and our drinks. Great guy with amazing staff that really made us feel welcome and appreciated. We’ve already made plans to go again for our next special occasion. If you want the ideal place to celebrate or just enjoy a perfect meal then Guild is the very best choice you can make!
Must try!! Fantastic food!. Thank you to the chef's and servers. Every dish yummy 😋 Wood fired pull apart bread Braised short ribs Grilled steak salad Ricotta gnocchi Alfredo Steak Frites
We went to this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. The location is excellent, The decor, open kitchen concept, patio, and atmosphere are great. Bathrooms are in the basement (I suggest ladies and children always go with a companion). Service is OK, the food needs improvement. Appetizers and desserts were salty and very average for the place and price. The presentation was not the best either. The menu also needs to provide a better description of the dishes.
Came here recently for a special dinner. The atmosphere is amazing and the service is awesome. The food is delicious and the portions are just right! I went with the pork belly for my dinner because it sounded interesting, and the flavors were amazing! The meat was melt in your mouth. We chose to share a dessert, and I would definitely recommend the cheesecake, delicious and perfect sharing size. The cocktails are also very delicious, if you're wanting to give those a try as well and you like some alcohol with your evening. The Guild is a good choice for a fancier occasion, a date night, or a treat-yourself dinner outing.
My husband had an epic birthday here - he devoured their gigantic tomahawk steak cooked to perfection, medium rare all the way!
Went here for a Christmas Party and called beforehand to see if they can accommodate for plant based diet. They assured that they could accommodate. When we arrived, they made it clear that accommodation meant simply excluding the protein from the dish while charging the same amount of money. Rather, I would be charged extra for a plate where i requested nuts in exchange of animal protein. I guess nuts cost more than exotic meats? Seems unlikely. Just because one is vegan, does not mean they dont eat protein... not very impressed. There is also not even a single plant based main plate. I expected more from a fancy place like this. Also, not a single dessert option available without cream of some sort. The server was friendly and the facilities were clean.
Wonderful restaurant located in the historic Bay Building. Gorgeous interior, friendly and helpful service, and great food. One of my favorites in the downtown area.
I was super excited to try this for my 40th birthday. My husband made a reservation a week in advance for a party of 6. He made it know that a young child would be in our party. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by the staff and she left . Leaving us at the front desk for 15 minutes. Part of our party was already seated and we were just stuck and we were told to wait. After 15 minutes the staff came back and tried to rush us to our table . We stopped her and asked for coat check. The she said she couldn t seat us because we had a child. We told her we let the person know when we booked it. Something about a high table. Our daughter is 4 and was fine in the counter height seats.we finally got to join our party. The bathroom is in the basement and freezing cold. The server never chatted to us just came by one at a time and never spoke to the entire group. It s was confusing and she never explained when we asked about a sauce or other things. She said she has no idea what the other items were for sauces. Then when dessert can they ran out of candles. Imagine that. For my 40th they wrote on another persons dessert at our table happy birthday in icing sugar. We spent almost $700 in total and a candle is certainly not to much to ask for. Not impressed wished we had gone elsewhere.
This place is fantastic, really one of a kind. Great food and service, definitely recommend for a special occasion or a nice meal.
I would give 3.5 stars. It took over an hour to serve our food. But, they were short staffed. The server we had last night was amazing though! Kept our drinks flowing. My friend had the gnocchi, holy heck it was fabulous! The steak frites were great, delicious steak. The place smelled so good! The decor is always a favorite of mine. Only 3.5 stars because we had to wait soooo long.
No short glasses for my drink? And being told short glasses are reserved is another level of disappointment server ice is the best
The Guild is a different Beast Located in the historic Hudson s Bay building in downtown Calgary Alberta off 8th Ave SW with amazing dry-aged steaks basted with housemade tallow butter and cooked on a wood-fire high quality local Alberta beef grilled. Engaging and pleasant service nothing ever to complain about, great ambiance. Highly recommend this venue, we always try come here when reservations available. Ordered the 28-day Dry-aged 34 oz. Porterhouse, Beretta Farms Striploin, bottles of Château Pape Clément, and their signature Roasted Pig Head.
Ordered fish and chips. Fish was the same frozen battered fish you get from costco + freezer burn. Not what I would expect from this type of establishment
Great food, will return
Had to make a last minute booking for my girlfriends birthday. Staff was super accomodating, and the food was delicious. Alison was awesome, she was super attentive without being intrusive, good suggestions on wine and dessert. We will be back for sure.
Had a lovely relaxing few hours at the guild in Calgary. Our server Nick was very friendly, engaging and pleasant nothing was too much trouble. He was helpful with the menu suggestions. All in all we had a great time and stayed a lot longer than we expected. Highly recommend this venue.
Best steakhouse for us. When we are in Calgary we always eat at Guild if possible. The chimichurri sauce is a must with a fine steak and French fries. Also very nice and attentive staff.
Our server, Emily, was absolutely wonderful. attentive, very friendly and personable. The food was all perfect and came out fast. We went for a birthday dinner and had a great experience !
The food wasn t worth the wait. We waited for so long to get our meals and drinks and they turned out not great at all. It was for my birthday and I was pretty excited but ended up disappointed. Also, we ended up having a tummy upset after our meal and that was the height for me
Loved the food! Tenderloin was excellent. The baked cauliflower app was outstanding. Service was on point. For sure putting this one on the rotation.
The food was amazing and the location of the restaurant is outstanding. The quality and taste of the dry-aged steak were one of the best I ve ever had. The service was excellent as well and made me feel welcome. I will definitely be back if I ever visit Calgary again.
Food was mediocre, definitely overpriced. Service was terrible. She was incredibly disorganized and not coordinated well enough to serve what we ordered and not spill things all over my guests and the table.
Food was okay for the price, service was kind of lack lustre for how few people were in the restaurant. Previously would give this 5/5 but would not go out of my way anymore to dine here. There are definitely other better options in downtown.
Came for the Porterhouse steak, every bite was perfection. The wood stove takes the steak to the next level. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could have more!
Love the restaurant decor. Amazing food and service is excellent. Visited this location several times and the dishes never stop amazes me. Happy hour options are great too! Highly recommend.
This place is the complete package.
Amazing place for date nights!
First time being there. Went for my Best Friend s Birthday Celebration on 23rd evening, our server Maria if I am not wrong with her name the new server was amazing. She made our experience a whole lot better and was very friendly and extremely nice. I had put in the reservation note if a small cake could be arranged for the birthday cutting and she was even able to do that. Thank you so much to her and the Food was amazing, we went with some of her recommendations and were not disappointed at all. Thank you so much! Loved the ambience and staff! Would definitely come back.
Irene (the Irish waitress, sorry if i write her name in the wrong way) was super ! Very smiling and sunshine person. The food is amazing and delicious ! The dessert are really tasty and huge, so nice ! A really good restaurant with humble prices !
Ordered a Ribeye for $64. It was a low quality piece of meat and I am guessing not cooked the way a ribeye needs to be cooked. I sent it back as it was not worth the money and not enjoyable to eat. Another person at the table had same experience but didn t want to say anything. Restaurant manager and waitress offered another option. Service was fine. Waitress had told me they were known for their steaks but only had 3 reasonable cuts on the menu. If you want a good Steak go the Chairman s, Vintage or Hy s. Place is overpriced and quality of food is mediocre at best. Buns were the best part of the dinner.
Attended Stampede party at The Guild. Service was very good and bartender was amazing. Top notch establishment.
Good food, friendly service!
This place never disappoints! Went to Major Tom which was very underwhelming and stoped by here for a drink and my favorite carrot cake desert. We were served on the patio by a young gentleman named Reed who had a great vibe and was very personable . thank you for making our evening special!
Monday night we had Reid as our waiter and he is fantastic at building the rapport with his customers, the food and drinks are fantastic there. A must visit when you are in Calgary downtown.
So the service wasn t bad, the food wasn t terrible. We saw a mouse before we began eating. The manager went to a table that also noticed the mouse (it ran out from under their table) and said, oh that little guy, he s our friend. We were debating leaving because we felt bad for ordering a lot of food and then just leaving before it came out. But the food came out and the manager dropped off the last plate and I said to my brother, should we? And the manager noticed our hesitation and asked, is everything okay? And we told him we saw the mouse. He said they ve had him there for a while and that the building was old and they have a pest control guy come in every three days. And that they can t get rid of him . Further meaning that the mouse probably scurried around everyday not knowing what food or other things he touched. The manager gave us the option to leave, after debating it for a bit, we decided to stay because it was 9:30 and not very much was open and we also felt bad for leaving after over $200 worth of food was sitting before us. We honestly barely touched our food because of the thought of a mouse running everywhere willy nilly and the manager making a joke about it. Also, it would not let me upload a video. But I tried to screenshot from the video. I tried using screenshots where you see the tail or body.
We had lunch here laat wee, food is good and the restaurant is nice but we had to wait for a long time to get the food and we asked for a piece of cake as a dessert. They brought us the plates and spoons and forgot the cake. We waited for 10 min and then reminded them of the cake.
Worst dinner and service ever. I ordered steak frites and asked for medium rare ... got ice blue cold, and they never came back to ask how it was. I tried to flag down our server, but she never came back. My husband had the pork belly and said it was hard to eat because the fat cap wasnt rendered at all. She finally came back at the end of the meal, giving out the bills (we were a large table of 8) and taking payment. She noticed that I didnt eat any of my steak, threw me a to-go container, and gave my husband the bill. Needless to say, I m never going back .
Decent steaks, great sides, ok service. Restaurant seemed either short staffed or something was going on. Not used to waiting that long for service at nicer restaurants.
Always have liked this place. The Jerk Chicken is a great Oliver and Bonacini classic just as served in their Toronto restaurants.
I was actually at Hudson, which is above Guild. Private event, lovely venue & delicious food & service!
The risotto delisious, artichock dip so good, the cheese cake rich
Service was bad bad, brunch wasnt great. Pretty dissappointed overall, have been here before and came back because it was a nice patio during stampede.
Nice atmosphere
The cocktails were uninspiring. However, our server, Reed, was outstanding.
One of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. The service is impeccable and the food is always really good. One thing I do miss is the roast pig head they used to have there. It was absolutely delicious!
Such a fabulous place! The atmosphere is chill and classy. There are various seating options - from booths, high top tables, bar seating, and low standard tables. The kitchen/bar area is open concept and you can see several wine options & various meats drying/curing. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Highly recommend the mac & cheese as a side to any meat main you order! The building is not wheelchair friendly, as there are steps down into the restaurant and the bathrooms are down several flights of stairs into the basement. Parking is limited, much like the rest of downtown restaurants, so we typically park a few blocks away in a parkade and then walk from there.
A fantastic place to get good food and great service in a cozy atmosphere
Great service out on the patio today!! Great recommendations and super friendly and helpful!! Can t wait to stop by again
I wish there was more than a 5 star option for service. Our server Reid tonight was fantastic!! I would leave him a 10 star if I could! Will definitely be back again. Hope to get Reid as our server again!
Stopped between FCM sessions for a small glass of wine. Lovely place, great service, wonderful wine list and most important for me, non-obtrusive background music.
Was not impressed with the food at all. All the plates and cups came out with specks on them which was a huge turn off. We had a great server but it wasn t enough to make up for everything else.
I wasn t going to write a review because I generally think that they re not a great representation of a restaurant. However, we made a reservation at the Guild tonight and we sat for 25 minutes without anyone acknowledging us at our table. We then made a reservation at Barbarella and left. On our way out we asked to speak to a manager to notify him of the poor service. All he said was I m sorry about that, I hope it doesn t ruin your night that same manager himself had walked by us multiple times without noticing we hadn t been helped (also a concern) Long story short, just go to Barbarella!! The service is fantastic!
I had THE BEST experience at The Guild in a longtime, had a lovely food recommendation from our server (Hannah? Or Hanna?) and she was so lovely! We came in at 6:30 and she was quick for recommendations for drinks, food, and even more things to do around Calgary for the rest of the night (I just moved from Montreal). Great experience, would highly recommend if you want an awesome atmosphere with great food.
Really enjoyed everything, food, service and atmosphere were amazing. Cant wait to come back!
Old School type Steak house. Inventive menu. Tasty cocktails Kid-friendliness: Not a great selection for youngsters, they wont appreciate this place.
Came here for an extra special occasion (which was noted on our reso) with no acknowledgment of it. We eat out often at restaurants like this one, and knowing everywhere is different this normally doesn t bother me at all, however the service was so sub par for the cost of dining here. It took a while for anyone to even acknowledge us and then our server clearly prioritized other tables the entire night, with the restaurant not being that busy. Not once but twice we sat for at least 15 minutes with empty water glasses waiting for someone to even stop by for us to ask for more. I had a lovely cocktail and planned to get a glass of wine with my dinner but no one came back to give me the opportunity to order anything else. My steak knife was delivered by our server when I was halfway through my steak. Then we sat with our empty glasses in front of us waiting to ask to pack my food for way longer than appropriate before a manager finally happened to walk by but was not apologetic at all. The Hostess was the only person who consistently seemed to care to check on us the few times she did walk by. We had big plans of celebrating with a nice meal and drinks but ended up deciding to go elsewhere for desert and some wine. The overall impression was that we didn t seem like important guests, which for the price point is disappointing enough that I wouldn t recommend here to friends or family. I will say that the food was extremely well executed, so it s a shame that the service took away from it as much as it did.
Great food. The rib eye steak was made to perfection. So tasty. We had a friend from Texas visiting here so we took him to the Guild and he said the steak there was as good as the steak in Texas and he really enjoyed it. Good atmosphere was and good vibe
Good place to enjoy a dry aged beef.
This was my first time going to a fancy steak house with my wife. And boy, did we go all out. I ordered the tomohawk steak and was blown away. It was juicy, tender and full of flavour. It was absolutely perfect. My wife enjoyed her pasta and mushroom soup, she said it was delicious. (She is vegetarian) I would highly recommend going to this steak house as you will not be disappointed.
Nice. Food was decent but could have been better for the cost. Washrooms need maintenance and took away from the appeal Food : 4/5
First time visiting Calgary and picked this place because of the interesting name and stellar reviews -- was not disappointed at all. Shared a dry age porterhouse among my party of 3 with a side order of the mushrooms and beetroots -- portions were massive (as expected), but we managed to demolish everything on the plates because it was just that good (not expected). Ordered the beef mid-rare and we all agreed it was one of the most tender cuts of meat weve had in a long time. Parts of the steak were more blue-rare, but those were the bits that really melted in your mouth. Got a carrot cake as well to round up the night. Normally youd expect frosting and butterscotch sauce to be overwhelmingly sweet, but that wasnt the case at all. Bits of crumbly ginger biscuits and vanilla ice cream provided lovely texture as well. Manager (Harry) and staff (Justin) were very friendly and they shared a lot of personal experiences on Calgary after they found out we just arrived. Wed definitely come back! PS. Wine glasses are a little thicker and heavier than usual, but I assume its to prevent any accidents caused by the amazing food
Absolutely lovely!
food was decent, the tomahawk was very under cooked (asked for medium rare - it was rare) service was horrible. waited 15-20 mins to order drinks, then another 10 for the drinks to come out. we did family style, and our dishes were brought out with no sharing plates/serving spoons. had to remind the waitress to bring our drinks twice that we ordered. then to top it off, asked to use the bathroom & the hostess said it was for paying customers only after i clearly just OVERpaid.
we came back for happy hour after a great dining experience a few nights ago. pleasant server, great value happy hour drinks and snack food. we stayed for dinner and had a good time. have to say this is our favourite place in Calgary
This is absolutely the worst restaurant on Stephen ave. Save your time and money. I ordered a steak medium rare and the first time it came out well done, the second burnt black. I asked the server what she thought of it - her response, she didn t know. I was charged the full price too. Asked if I wanted it boxed up. Please avoid, tasteless food, poor service. There s so many better options steps away! Stay clear.
Bad service and bad steaks, wanted a medium got it well done, won t be coming again
Came for happy hour and decided to sit on the patio. Didn t see our server until 10 minutes later and it was bizarre that their bar was already out of a certain rye for a cocktail and then another item for their Mai tai. Ordered the cauliflowers which were forgotten about as we had to ask for it, and when we did, it was cold and soft. There are better happy hour joints on Stephen Ave.
Mother s Day Brunch. Total disappointment. Ordered Eggs Benny which came with potatoes and salad. The salad was warm, wilted and some parts were crispy. Clearly it was under the headlamp for a while before it was picked up. I attempted to get the attention of our server, she did not approach or even make any eye contact with our table for quite some time. Buy the time she came over, my plate was cold. She took it back and said the kitchen will make a new one. Less than 5 mins I get a new plate. Only to find the same cold Eggs Benny with just warm sauce on top. The warm crispy salad, looks like romaine lettuce from the trash. I received large wilted BROWN leaves, not to mention the initial salad had no romaine lettuce and were harvest spring greens instead. No dressing was on the salad as well. Not sure what joke the kitchen was playing, but definitely the kitchen staff needs some coaching. Second time at this restaurant, thought we d give it another chance. Definitely will not return.
Unfortunately did not have a pleasant visit. I usually consider the Guild a go to restaurant. However, the restaurant was not even busy around 7pm on Mother s Day. It took a long time for appetizers and to get water (over 30 minutes) for service! Does not match the quality of the food and price (autogratuity) For the price, I rather go somewhere else that has better service.
Nice place for good food. And I like the atmosphere. Little pricy
Well prepared food with flavor
Reed was our server on the patio today, and he was so kind, accommodating, and funny! He made the best of our brunch for sure. Food and atmosphere was amazing as well. We will be back!
Fantastic steak. Great service. Nice vibe.
Greeter was friendly and professional. Staff behind bar who served me were above industry standards. Food was better than one would expect from Calgary compared to more affluent city centres. Atmosphere was good for the area. My recommendations would be the spacing in the bar area with the tables and stools at bar side especially. Also could bring on security in the lobby due to the crime demographic for that area. Washrooms are beside lobby down 3 flights of stairs so be aware of that. Give this place a try.
Lmaoo they add extra 18% tip without telling you! And the food was mid lol.
The display of the dish was amazing, steak was cooked to perfection. I truly enjoyed the atmosphere and the whole experience. I will definitely be return!
This place is a bit high end but great food and great service. The music was a bit loud but otherwise an excellent experience
We went for Valentines Day and had rhe $75 special meal. The chicken and strip steak were very good, however the fish and the duck were a big fail. Service was slow and a bit inattentive. It was our first time here and the firat impression wasnt enough for us to think about a repeat visit.
We loved our lunch here! Excellent service and extremely tasty food. So delighted we tried it and will definitely come back another time.
Beautiful place! Didnt like the service tho.
We had a great time here, best burger Ive ever had! The rest of the table loves their food as well. However, Jake our server is what really made the experience. Good food is one thing but service is in my opinion the most important! Thanks for the great last night in Calgary. When I come back Ill definitely be here again
My wife and myself gave this restaurant a second try, after being placed beside a loud and distracting bachelorette party table the first time. Last night we ordered the Tomahawk steak, and sides which is the most expensive dish on the menu. After waiting the 45 mins to prepare the steak, it arrived cold, and all the side dishes were cold as well. We were very disappointed on the delivery of such a expensive dish, $180 for a steak it should, which should be prepared to the highest standard. They attempted to reheat it as well as to reuse the side dishes and it returned back to our table now over cooked With the same warmed up side dishes. We are a few bites because we were hungry and asked for the manager to take the meal back. We were very disappointed, as we ordered a expensive bottle of red wine to enjoy with this meal. After our drinks were finished, we asked for our bill, and was shocked they still charged us for the whole dish. I asked the server if this was a mistake, she said no. After paying the bill, which was $360.00 we asked to speak to the manager before leaving to tell him how we felt about this experience. He still refused to do anything but offer a discount for our next visit. After explaining to him we made this trip to Calgary to specifically eat here tonight and we were completely disappointed in our experience that actually adjusted our bill a bit to compensate their mistake.
I felt the atmosphere is great. Service was average. Unfortunately I had the steak tartar with the raw egg ONTOP of course that s how it served but that evening I threw up nonstop and felt horrible for 12 hours. Definitely got food poisoning as this was the only meal I had this day. Kind of a shame. I think there are restaurants in Calgary I would visit again but guild wouldn t be one of them. Service was very average nothing drawing me back in and food made me sick
All the food, including the cocktails she recommended, was delicious and I enjoyed my stay here. It is the best place. We will visit again as soon as possible. In the end, she gave stickers to my children. Mothers would know. Stickers are such a big gift to them. Thank you^^ Kid-friendliness: Good!!!
The edamame beans and peas did not go well with the gnocchi. The two textures do not compliment the eachother. I was also surprised that 2 bottles of still water was $15. They also supposedly ran out of gnocchi by the time we got there which was 12pm on a Thursday and had to make more unexpectedly.
Surely, the Guild is the best place for fine dining, fancy date nights, or special occasions. We celebrated our 2 years of marriage at the Guild. It was worth it. Compared to other fine dining establishments, I often left disappointed because for such high prices, the food was often bland or too salty, or the steak was not done properly. But for the very first time, my wife and I were extremely happy about the food, drinks, service and ambiance. We really enjoyed our time at the Guild.
Food was great! One of the best steaks I ve ever had. Service was friendly and helpful.
Came for lunch and ordered the Guild Burger. The patty was thinner than a Macdonalds burger, extremely dry and so salty it was not edible. The fries were obviously old/refried as they were hard and hollow. Extremely disappointed. honestly it felt like my entire meal was yesterdays leftovers reheated in a toaster oven.
Literally best meal of my life. I cried real tears of joy while eating here. I got the tomahawk with lots of sides and omfg. I ate here 6 months ago (was visiting from Toronto) and just had a flash back to the best moment of my life which was eating that food. Thought I d leave an honest review.
Shoutout to buddy Julian
A dining experience.
Ordered the short ribs and was pleasantly surprised. Wait staff was attentive and efficient. I will be back again soon to try dinner Food : 5/5
The atmosphere of the place is elegant and there is pleasant music for conversation (on this occasion Sax), I dont give the 4 stars because the pasta I ordered seemed to me that it needed a little more cooking. But the experience of being in Calgarys Down Town was very good. Parking: There is no parking in the area where it is located because it is a pedestrian street, you must look around.
Went there with my family for my birthday! What a great night! First time there. The service, server, atmosphere and food were great. Had a great night! Will be back!
We had a very happy Happy Hour. Fresh salad with light tasty dressing and sourdough toast with baked goat cheese in tomato sauce was substantial for 2 to share. Paired with a yummy merlot and gracious server made for an excellent experience. Highly recommend!
I keep going back love this place all servers are good but if you can get Duncan youll love him!!!!
Great service with delicious food. Quiet and elegant atmosphere.
Tomahawk steak was amazing! Highly recommend!
I really love it this place!
Our server Duncan made our experience 100 times better he s wonderful
Always great quality, good service, and a delight to be here.
Attentive staff, great atmosphere, good food
Its was fantastic! Going again someday soon.
Amazing place with good kitchen
Amazing food and service, and great atmosphere
Great coffee and cinnamon bun. Excellent customer service.
Ive edited my review (from 3 to 4 stars) as the manager called me after posting my review. This is exceptional service, so will definitely be going back again. Great ambience & fun location. We were, however, disappointed with the Tomahawk steak which lacked flavor.
Nice service staff and food. Quiet place! Parking: Calgary down town. Food : 5/5 |
This was an annual new years dinner my friends and I have every year. This was the most disappointing experience ever for us all. The server, Alex, was extremely rude and rarely checked up on us. He messed up our orders big time (ignored dietary restrictions when we had mentioned it and brought me the wrong meal). On top of this when we asked for another bottle of wine while he was standing close to us on his iPad, he rudely scolded us if you guys can just be patient, I m busy now and will attend you eventually . He never brought us steak knives either. The whole dinner was ruined especially because of the servers attitude and rudeness. Unfortunately we have no desire to return again. this was the original post- After speaking to the team I was even more disappointed that no solution was offered and my time was wasted. Do no recommend this place at all. No good customer service. Proper thing would be to make the meal for me again that I never got.
Met in the afternoon for a business meeting. Only had appetizers, but food and service was great
The maple glazed short ribs were very tender. Glazing was delicious.
Visited on a hot day with a business partner. The tenderloin was really good. The default 18% tip is annoying since you charge $70 for a steak please pay your servers more, she was great. An umbrella fell down an inch from our table which could have been really bad If it struck my head.
The Tomahawk Steak was excellent, but the appetizers (smoked deviled eggs & caesar salad) lacked flavor.
Went in for a birthday dinner . Initially the server we had was horrible and was mainly not interested in serving us that is my only complaint. Then the manager Kayley came over to bring us a food item and totally changed my experience. We moved then from inside to outside patio and Duncan served us wow ! Amazing server , attentive and honest . I left my phone at the restaurant and rest assured he put it inside and it was returned to me the following day . Thank you Duncan for your honesty. My favourite part of the whole meal was the fried Mac and cheese and the carrot cake was out of this world .
1-5 pm Happy Hour Great to catch a bite, and the patio is dog friendly! They even bring your dog their own dog bowl! Food : 5/5
Great place for a steak. Loved the service. Will definitely be back.
I normally enjoy the food and the service, but not the last time. I booked a table for 11 people at 6:00pm on a recent Saturday evening. They could not accommodate us all at one table, so they split us across two tables, which was fine. We were told that we had to be out of the restaurant by a certain hour because they needed the tables for the next reservation. We told the restaurant that we needed to be out by 8:00 because we had an event to go to. That would free up the tables on time and get us to our event on time. We ordered a $64 bottle of wine. We were told that they were out of the wine, and that the next closest substitute was only $10 more so we agreed to get that bottle. My surprise came at bill time on two fronts. First, we were charged $95 for the substitute wine. It seems that the waiter misunderstood the original $64 bottle order, and thought that we wanted the $85 next step up bottle, which they were actually out of. So they upsold us on the $85 bottle and we paid $95. The second surprise was the timing of receipt of our bills. At about 7:50 I asked the waiter for our bills. We received them at 8:20. A full half hour to get our bills! When I spoke with management the next day, they admitted that they were slammed with having seated a bunch of large group reservations between 7 and 8pm. If you know you have those many reservations booked, including the times and numbers of guests arriving, can that not be better planned for? I also told management about the wine mess-up and no concrete solution was offered. I sent an email to the restaurant and have heard nothing over a week later. Most disappointing. I wont get into the ceiling-mounted air conditioning unit dripping water onto our table.
The food was exceptional. Matts service was excellent. Happy times.
Incredible dinner our steaks were delicious cooked perfectly and our server was so polite and gave great recommendations the drinks were delicious too!
Enjoyed an amazing date night dinner on the patio. Steak was cooked to perfection, and the drinks were all great. Service was top notch and some of the best weve had downtown.
Went to The Guild for lunch with a friend and the food took a while to be served however when it came. It was tasty and i couldn t get enough. I ll definitely be going back for the Jerk Chicken meal. Giving 4 stars only because of the delay in getting the food.
The Guild is one of my all-time favorites in the city. The desserts are top-notch and creative. The steaks aged and cook to perfection. The salads are always fresh and well-seasoned. The ambience is so relaxing. Servers are so knowledgeable and attentive. This place is always in my go-to list.
We went here for our 3 year anniversary! We went on a Tuesday night, which made it quite and the perfect dinner experience. The food was quick to come out. I ordered the mushroom soup and my husband ordered a salad. Both were delicious (maybe it s just me, but I would ve liked more salt in the soup). The fish was delicious! Same with the steak. And I had the best drink ever here. Would come again :)
We went there to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, the food and service was exquisite. It was cozy and romantic.
We met out of town friends last night at The Guild. We arrived at 5 pm for happy hour and had a couple of pre-dinner drinks at a very reasonable price on the lovely patio. We went into the beautiful restaurant for dinner, its in the Bay building on Stephen Avenue, renovated with great ambience, quiet enough not to yell at each other during the meal. Our guests and I had the Icelandic cod and hubby had the short ribs. Both were excellent and a decent portion. We had two orders of lemon meringue tarts to share between 3 of us, they were also very good. A very large portion, one order to share would have sufficed. With select wines half price on Tuesday to Thursday, amazing food and attentive staff, one of the best meals Ive had in quite awhile!
Nice place, but as expensive as hell.
Overhyped. Long walk to the washroom, my pasta was undercooked while my friend s was underwhelming. The calamari was the only good dish we had. I will say even thought service was very slow they were very nice to interact with.
Over priced drinks & food
Attended an SPE event so I can t really comment too much as I was only outside on their patio.
They have halal meat and great food!!
Good food.. great service. Had Courteney serving our table of 15..and she was on it the whole time and never missed a beat. Thanks again for staying over an hour after closing and to the other restaurant staff as well. Will definitely make another visit when were up this way again from BC!!
Juliet and other staff was so nice. Very welcoming environment. Tried Jerk Chicken as my birthday treat loved it!! (Chef s kiss)
DONT RECOMMEND IT The food was good but service really bad. Ordered an appetizer that never came. Food took more than 30 min (1 burger and gnocchi). Coke didn t had any gas and after we asked for new ones it was the same. The place was kind of empty (I ll put pictures) and no server to be seen (there where maybe 5) At least 1 runner saw me raising my hand asking for the check for like 10 min and didn t say anything to a server. Don t waste your time there. Vegetarian options: Not enough option (not even veggie burger)
Its always good to come back. The service was a bit on the slower end, but great otherwise.
We didn t plan on trying The Guild, simply just walk by and my wife suggested we could have lunch there. But wow, the food was great and service was up to par. Not mentioning the atmosphere was amazing! The owner must have put in a lot of effort into it! Great restaurant! Food
Came here as a graduation congratulatory dinner I really loved the vibe of the restaurant. For food, we had the mushrooms with toast and the gnocchi. Mushrooms with toast was AMAZING, but the gnocchi was just okay really salty but not a lot of other flavours other than minty. The real downfall was the service in my opinion. We were only two people and didn t spend thousands of dollars, but we did spend over $100 yet it felt like the server judged us based on how much money we were spending in comparison to other parties. This was the second time we felt this way at the Guild and I don t know if I want to spend more money here unfortunately
Horrible dinning experience. I don t usually give bad reviews but it was so bad. 30 min to get our first drinks. A fly landed in my wine and it took another 10 minutes to get a replacement. Servers were hard to come by, nice staff if you can find one. Everyone around us, came in after us and ate before us. 1 hour 45 from arrival to main course. Devilled eggs tasted like they had been stored in a fridge pre-made for a week. The Brussels sprouts were bland and burnt. mushrooms were mediocre. Loved the macaroni appy. No dedicated server - just random people stopping by. I was very disappointed. They gave us several different reasons as to why it was so delayed. They offered a free dessert for waiting almost 2 hours but we declined. Will not be coming back. Food was ok - but there are many better options just doors away.
I got charged an extra drink even though the waitress said they had cleared the situation and accepted i only had 1 drink. Then she comes out with the bill she puts on the table facing down. I didnt suspect anything and payed the check. Susprise when i get the receipt the extra drink was charged. I felt bad because i trusted the waitress and she tricked me. Food and drinks are ok but watch out for the dark haired white girl. Never coming back and not recommending it.
After reading other reviews I tried the smoked devilled eggs app. Disappointing as no smoky flavor and deviiled is usually spicy. Very little flavour. Not recommended. However, the rest of our meal was spectacular. Our server, Melissa, was friendly, efficient and funny. The Icelandic cod is amazing. Shrimp cocktail huge. The carrot cake is an edifice of taste. As well, on Thursdays select wines are half price. Atmosphere is very nice. Highly recommended
Horrible all around, service sucked, food took an hour to come for just 2 people, food was so cold and gave us a stomach pain after. Definitely overpriced for everything. Servers didn t seem to care about their jobs.
Very nice restaurant
My husband and I recently had dinner at The Guild for the first time, the food was tasty (albeit not cheap!) and the atmosphere and decor is nice - but what really disappointed us was the service. We had to prompt and chase our server multiple times, he forgot items we had asked for on numerous occasions, made an error with our dessert order then charged us for a dessert we didn t have it essentially felt like we had been forgotten about. We were then shocked to see, when the bill arrived (along with the card machine, so we were put on the spot with little time to question it) that an 18% service tip had already been added to the total bill followed by the prompt to then add a further 18, 20 or 22% gratuity, on top of that automatic 18%, on the card machine at payment!! For a table of 2 that had virtually been ignored for two hours - absolute insanity. We had been really excited for our first visit to The Guild, but sadly after this experience we won t be returning.
An intimate dining experience, fused with exceptional food prepared by talented kitchen staff. Grab a drink at the bar and feel at home with the friendly bar staff that provide top end service to patrons. A great selection of wines and scotch, or stop in and enjoy a well served cold beer. A place to enjoy and to relax. Cheers!
Love the ambiance of the place. Portion is ok but food can be improved. I had the cod and it is a little bland. Cocktail is good.
The Tomahawk steak was excellent. The side dishes were really good too. Deep fried Macaroni was good. Mushroom soup was awful. They used pickled mushrooms making the soup sour. We weren t sure if it had gone bad. Service was slooooow. The server was nice but not attentive. Had to ask for water refills. Waited so long time to order, another waiter finally took our order for us. It s a good restaurant so go and try it out. I think it was just our luck that it wasn t such a good experience that night.
Ordered the Fish and Chips on September 9, 2023 at 2:30 pm. Only fish served but no chips. Deceptive menu! Referring to my picture, fish came with full of white salt on top. Barely eatable. Lemon has been burnt to the darkness as charcoal. Hope health inspectors come to teach the cooks how to make the food properly. 1 star for the food is too high
It was such a beautiful day to walk along Stephen Avenue, and we saw the Guild when our tummies were grumbling. We got the Fried Mac & Cheese and Crispy Calamari to start. My daughter loved the fried logs of mac & cheese. The Crispy Calamari had a lot of flavor, and the batter was light to the point that it came off easily. The Lavender Lemonade was very well made. My wife liked her Sunset Fizz. For mains, we shared the Guild Burger and added House-Smoked Bacon. The burger was delicious and heavy. The fries were crispy and heavily salted. We also ordered the Baked Meatballs. This was a fantastic dish with a very nice tomato sauce. We also added a side of fries in case the kids want more. Personally, the fries were pricey given that it was the same amount as those that came with the burger. Finally, we finished with the Lemon Meringue. It was just the right amount of tartness. Wheelchair accessibility: No steps to patio area
The Food was excellent. Service was outstanding. Loved it 100%
Wonderful place right on the walking mall in Calgary. Great service and a well curated selection of foods and drinks that were done right.
The BEST if you re celiac!
I ve been here a few times for lunch. The prices are a bit high but that is due to the location downtown. Food is tasty and quite a few options. Service was always fast and efficient. They are accommodating to any dietary changes you may have.
These guys make a much better ceasar than the Best Western
The steak is amazing. Cooked to perfection
Fantastic atmosphere and attentive servers! There is no sand in the escargots, the Icelandic cod has a delicious scallop-like flavour, and the gnocchi seem to be freshly made in-house! Extraordinary attention to detail.
Stumbled upon this place with my boyfriend, while looking for happy hour. We originally had dinner reservations for a different steakhouse. However, the bartender Julian was amazing and went above and beyond to explain the menu and really convinced us to stay. We are sure happy we made that choice because the meal was absolutely amazing. We had the jerk chicken and the maple glazed beef short rib, and they did not disappoint. You can tell Julian has a lot of passion for his job and really made us feel welcomed. Thank you Julian and The Guild Staff for an amazing anniversary dinner.
Had the beet and burrata salad. Not sure what they think burrata is but what was on the plate was definitely not burrata. Kind of a sloppy scoop of stracciatella. Waiter seemed distracted. Nice atmosphere.
I love the layout of this place with the semi circular bar and kitchen in the back. Well done designers. Food was very good. We had devilled eggs for appetizer. We also had lobster risotto and gnocchi. All good dishes. Service was attentive and friendly. Next time I will try some meat. They seem to pride themselves on their dry aged meat.
Fantastic dinner! Food was topnotch!! Service was impeccable!!!
Jeremy chicken for my birthday lunch. Amazing! Pineapple margarita.
This is the steak house you wanna try
The Renzo bar was top tier. Excellent Service. Suggested the perfect beer for the night out. Enjoyed the aromas encompanied with the perfect pour.
Great food...service was outstanding...everything we ordered turned out great
Went last night with some friends. Had a lovely time, the service was great, but the food was lacklustre for some of us. The spinach artichoke dip was great, but only came with one slice of sourdough cut in half for a group of four. We had to order more bread so everyone could get a piece, and it cost $2. I was not expecting a charge when asking to ensure there was enough bread for a sharing appetizer. It was also an enormous amount of dip, so having so little to dip into it just feels silly. We got the 24oz dry aged steak, ~$90, and were told it would be forty minutes. We ordered it rare, and it arrived medium. Because of the long wait, we chose not to ask for it to be remade. The potatoes and mushrooms were delicious. Unfortunately we didn t take a photo. Our friends got the 10oz steak frites, cooked medium, and split the tomato and burrata salad. They were very satisfied. Their steak was done correctly. The bottle of red wine we received was strangely cold, but inexpensive and tasted good with the food. Again, service was fantastic. The food was okay with potential to be great. We wouldn t get the expensive steak again.
Vegetarian options: Limited to a decent salad spread and few appetizers. Food
Came here for a corporate dinner with about 90 people. The fixed menu included, chicken, steak, and cod. I had the steak, and it was outstanding, perfectly served at medium. The appetizers were also delicious, everything was well done, and I was pleasantly impressed.
Came here with a group of 10 people for a business dinner. While the food that we did get was good, one persons steak didnt arrive for over a half an hour after other peoples. We were told over and over again that they were working on it. I think it should be safe to expect at a steakhouse, the meals should arrive at the same time. By the time his steak arrived the rest of the table was finished eating. New server was trying her best, but probably could have used some support.
Everything was perfect !!!
I don t like there service bad experience my husband birthday and I want to give him surprise but the bar tender come twice and they ask in front of him about cake and all
I frequent the guild, Im always taken back by the fact that they have a high end room with good if not great food located on one of Calgarys primary hospitality artery however every time we visit the space is quite empty. Both the steaks and and burgers are great, they both hands down beat a cactus/earls/Joey steak or burger. I cannot comment on the bar. I have been anxiously waiting to visit during lunch to try their Lamb burger. While at first glance I would say I like the lounge and bar layout, upon a second review it is very apparent that the seating and physical bar orientation is one of its key limitation factors. The hospitality group that handles the guild no doubt has their hands full but lacks hospitality.
A great lunch spot along Stephen Avenue, tucked into the Hudsons Bay building. Fine dining level menu with an extensive selection of items. Service is efficient and friendly and the atmosphere has old world charm with modern flair.
Beautiful restaurant. We sat at the bar; we did not have a reservation for a Friday night. Very approachable bartended and good food. The mushroom soup broth was lovely, however the oyster mushrooms may have been marinated in vinegar (that bit was odd). Steak tartar and burger - both great. Glad we walked in.
Steaks are very well prepared. low and slow baby. great spot for a date
Such an incredible place to hold a large gathering, the staff were incredible and huge thanks to my server Alex, this would not have been the same experience without you. The service was incredible, so kind and attentive. The atmosphere was beautiful, music was soft, great place to people-watch out the window and see all the happenings on Stephen Ave! The gnocchi and shrimp were cooked to perfection. Thank you!!
Steak today was lacking. Usually a favorite restaurant but not tonight. Flavourless and dry.
Treated ourselves to a fancy dinner and the Guild was a perfect choice. Our server was really attentive, knowledgeable and was mindful of the timing of meals prior to an event we were going to. The atmosphere was really classy and modern, and the food was to die for. Bonus: realized upon receipt that this is an Oliver and Bonacini restaurant which was so exciting as a master chef canada fan.
The food was good but the service was really bad. Our server was rude and didn t care about our comfort. Whenever we asked him for something he seemed like he didn t want to and treated us like a hassle. Very disappointed because it was my friends birthday. The Server ID was: andr6591, I don t know if this would help or not.
The food was wonderful, the music was very satisfying, and the service was excellent. This is a great choice for memorable occasions. We went there for our anniversary, and they surprised us with a couple glasses of champagne. I would definitely return here again.
Absolutely brutal experience, i have been here once before around the time it opened and enjoyed it. I was very excited to be coming back unfortunately it wasn t the same. We waited about 45 mins to get our drink order in, were told the bottle of wine we wanted was no longer available. We then chose a different bottle only to have our waitress come back and tell us that they do actually have it. After we finally got our drinks 20 minutes later, we were finally able to order our food. We then waited about an hour and a half for our meal to arrive which we had to ask about because of such the delay. Annoyed but hungry we were actually excited our food did show up only to take the first bite and find it cold. We had enough and decided to complain that we didn t want it. The manager and server had several and different reasons as to why and what went wrong. Most likely won t be going back.
Disappointing. The staff are very nice but they re not trained for service in a restaurant that charges these prices. I wouldn t say the food is outright bad, but it would ve made more of an impression if they threw it at me. The steak temp wasn t close to what was ordered, nobody checked on it after it was served and I had to ask for a fork. The bar staff had lots of time to socialize with their friends though. This place is charging for standards it doesn t meet.
Placed a reservation for work. Needed to change it, but open table had a technical issue and calling 6 times in 20 minutes all went to voice mail. Had to run to the restaurant just to modify it. I get that lunch rush on a Thursday can be highly busy, so for diners, your best bet is to either show up late or pick somewhere else. Didnt order anything and I was in no mood to sit down myself so I cant speak on the quality of the food.
The inside of the restaurant is very nice. However, don t let that fool you. The service was terrible. Waited over 30 minutes to get our drinks. Then over 1. 15 minutes to get our food. Once food arrived, a dish needed to go back as there was no flavour. I came here with my family, and I don t think I d ever go back again!! It could ve been an off day, however I don t recommend at all.
I had the best experience with Julien, he showed his knowledge with drinks and cocktails which led him to be able to describe all the cocktails that were on the menu. The drinks were incredible and it was very noticeable how julien was passionate about his profession and the experience all the more enjoyable.
Excellent
