The Coup, which opened in 2004 is a celebration of vegetarian cuisine that tantalizes taste buds with bold flavors while upholding a commitment to ethical sourcing. Nestled in the heart of the Beltline in Calgary, we take pride in crafting a diverse menu that showcases the vibrant essence of locally sourced ingredients. Our mission is to redefine plant-based dining by offering dishes that not only satisfy cravings but also leave you feeling wholly nourished. At The Coup, we believe in transforming vegetables into artful creations that embody both substance and style, reimagining what a satisfying meal can truly be.
I loved everything I ate here! Nikita recommended the nigiri, which was delicious, and i truly enjoyed the brussel sprouts as well. My only regret is not trying the broccoli.
While visiting Calgary, I stopped for lunch at The Coup, and it was a delightful experience. I ordered their house-made iced tea and the Dragon Bowl—a lovely vegan dish featuring tofu, miso gravy, and quinoa. The iced tea was refreshing, with just the right balance of natural sweetness and flavor, making it a perfect drink to complement the meal. The Dragon Bowl was exceptional—each ingredient was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy miso gravy tied everything together beautifully. The tofu was cooked to perfection, and the quinoa added a hearty, satisfying base. It was clear that a lot of care goes into creating their plant-based dishes. The ambiance at The Coup was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Whether you’re vegan or just looking for a delicious, wholesome meal, The Coup is a must-visit spot in Calgary. I’ll definitely return on my next trip!
From the opening cocktails to the delicious main courses The Coup delivered five stars across the board. The espresso martini was divine with a few coffee beans to keep you nice and alert. The gyoza was a nice appetizer to start. The mains were ample size and more than enough to take home. For service Ashley was the perfect balance of "I'm here to support your food journey" while ensuring we had time to ourselves. The people watching and ambiance just grooved chill and relax as well. A staple to the Calgary vegetarian scene!!
It’s not easy find vegetarian restaurants on Monday in Calgary and could accommodate my special request for no onion, no garlic. Appreciate your service and food. I called the front desk and placed the order via Uber eats.
We ate here last night. I loved the atmosphere. Great ambiance. Our server could have been better. He seemed a little impatient at explaining the menu to my boyfriend about the vegan options. My boyfriend just wanted to make sure that he wasn't going to eat any animal products and this was our first time here. We ordered the satay broccoli appetizer which we really enjoyed. My meal was the tempeh shawarma and came with the loaded yam fries. It was spicy and had an overpowering flavor. I think it was a spicy tahini dressing. I specifically asked for it to not be so spicy if it was. I didn't have my reading glasses on. My bad!! The server never came around to ask me about my meal. It was actually the lady working the bar who we struck up a bit of a conversation with and when I mentioned that my dinner was spicier than I expected she recommended trying the tzatziki with it to cool it down a little. She was correct and it did help. My boyfriend had the sushi with asparagus/spinach etc and he really enjoyed that. The funniest part was how fast the server came to our table with the bill which included the 18 percent tip already added! Ha whatever 🙄 We would go again but I would order something different.
Food was good, I liked the brussel sprouts a lot and both noodle dishes were really good. The gyoza only had a small 3 pieces and weren’t super flavourful. The service could use some work, I didn’t appreciate the server’s attitude during our lunch. The drunken noodles were good but as advertised they were supposed to be egg noodles and I think they were udon instead I don’t love udon so that was a bummer. The other noodle dish was very good, the lotus root was a very nice touch. Overall food was good, service could use some work.
Always a great time here. Love how creative the dishes are. They also change up the menu every now and then which keeps things interesting. So good you forget the fact there isn't any meat in your dish.
Great vegan/vegetarian option in the city. I myself am not vegetarian, but I wanted to try their “tuna” sushi made with marinated watermelon. The taste was very delicious, and the presentation was great. The drunken noodles were also quite good, the presentation again was on point, and the taste was great. Would recommend!
I had the longest day of my life today, & while attempting to order from the coup through Uber eats, I noticed the Tempeh shawarma was not listed as a menu option (this is my favourite dish). I called the restaurant and was told that it wasn t listed due to being out of stock, but the lovely lady on the phone said she d double check with the kitchen. The kitchen informed her the bread for the wrap had arrived, she she kindly updated the online menu for me and I was able to place the order! Thank you for being so diligent and thoughtful to check.
I ve heard many good things about this restaurant from many people, so when me and my family went to go out for a birthday dinner I was curious to see what it had in store for us. Unfortunately this was one of the worst dinning experiences I ve ever had. I don t want to put specific blame on anyone but for starters, we came in during a slow time and our server right off the bat had issues taking our orders (she stated it was her first dayish? not too sure about that) but as our orders came out, there still was some confusion I think our order was just forgotten or just messed up. Many of our side plates got out with the wrong dishes and one order was completely forgotten. We would have to wait a while for our orders to come out in general and would have to remind our server what we ordered and the modifications. The sever was just also very unprofessional, I don t want to be negative towards her as if it is her first day i understand the highs and lows of that first shift. HOWEVER when it came down to tipping the family member that paid decided not to tip as they felt the service was just not there. The server comes back to tell us after we have paid Oh by the way there wasn t auto gratuity on the bill . We all had to take a minute to process, so my other family member went up to pay the 7% .. I ve never had a server ask for a tip. I completely understand the tipping system we have in the city and how a percentage goes to the kitchen but to go out of the way to ask a customer for tip for terrible service is crazy. We weren t sure if it was the severs or the managers decision to ask us for tip until the family member that DID end up PAYING saw that it was the manger as he told her how much to pay .but it honestly made the whole experience extremely uncomfortable. Maybe it was just a rough night, we all have bad days but it wasn t a terribly busy night which is why we were all confused why the service was terrible.
Last night we were a party of four for dinner and experienced what I can safely say was a first class act. We arrived at 7 and by 8 :10 had still not been served any food, neither hot (yam fries, superb) nor cold (delicious salad, enough for all of us). The lovely waitress, fairly new, was beside herself, apologizing profusely for the unusual delay, which we patiently endured, belied I suppose by our squirmy, hungry body language. At 8:15, the food arrived and it was delicious. Falafel quesadillas, a salt--free dragon bowl specially prepared as requested, beach front hot pot and a satay bowl. When it was time to pay for the dinner, the manager waived the bill. I still remain uncomfortable about the cost of this meal being swallowed by the restaurant, given the slim profi margins of eateries these days but had no choice. We are gratefully returning tomorrow night for more tasty food with an additional friend and look forward to being hungry enough to order dessert. Thank you, The Coup.
My partner and I have only been here twice, a year apart, but the (im assuming) owner rememberd us and was very friendly! The food is so unique as well, great vegetarian place with lots of options other than just salad, gluten free options as well. Fun drinks as well, reasonable prices. I recommend this place to others in my life as it is a really cool and cute spot. The decor and lighting is nice too. I overheard the table next to us recall their last experience where the owner recommend food and wine to them all and it was amazing, really a place where you feel like you are being looked after as a guest. It helps to go at non busy times im sure.
Always a great meal and friendly staff. Good atmosphere. One of the best vegetarian/ vegan restaurants in town!
Vegetarian options: It s veg-head central! Dietary restrictions: The Coup caters to all - they just want you to Like your food! Kid-friendliness: The coup is for everyone! It s delicious and nutritious!
Dietary restrictions: Vegan Food
Thank you Coup! for the most amazing chocolate avocado torte.
What a special little place. Amazing food, fantastic service - Libby was so lovely. We re from Vancouver but will be back next time we re in town. Such a treat!
We stumbled across this vegan friendly restaurant and it didn t disappoint! Our server, Libby was AMAZING, and the food was top shelf quality and flavour! The restaurant itself is very welcoming and charming. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, gyozas and shared a Kale Salad. The digestive shots after the meal were a nice treat, too. All of the dishes were sooo good! I wish I lived here - I d visit weekly!
Absolutely love this place, the food is amazing, the staff are always so great, and the atmosphere is awesome. So many unique dishes and drinks to try!
Wow here s my comment the food is illegal !!! Thx so much Libby for explaining the menu and for your high energy and kindness awesome I ll be back!!!
Amazing experience and unreal food
Came in, the vibe was super chill and awesome. Was greeted by Georg who was amazing and very knowledgeable and friendly! Was thinking of either trying the Tempeh Shawarma or the Falafel quesadilla, but George had other plans for me and Litterally blew my mind with the Drunken Noodles with Tofu and mushrooms. Very good dish and highly recommend! Then to end the night, George brought us some dessert which was phenomenal! Loved the place, loved the ambiance, loved the food and the service. Will definetly be coming back.
Excellent service, George was awesome!
Love this spot! Wonderful dishes and friendly service.
I loved this place in 2021, especially as a group of vegetarians. In 2022 or so they changed the menu from proper dishes to what I can only call à la carte vegetables. I think the idea was to make it easier to share, but in practice the food was worse and more expensive. I also got an entire chunk of deep fried ginger in my mushrooms, which was a surprise to say the least. Looks like theyve since changed the menu again, but my last experience there (2022 or so) was disappointing enough that I havent been back. Too bad because it used to be great. Vegetarian options: Pretty sure this place is vegan Dietary restrictions: I think its vegan
Amazing food with amazing service. Must visit.
George is a boss. Sushi was next next level
Outstanding
Amazing food and great service!
Ive been a fan of the coup for a while, but a particular detail stuck out today. I ordered delivery and added a special request for no olives (not an allergy) on a dish that typically has olives. When I opened the bag, I noticed the kitchen wrote falafel - no olives on the container. For someone who has a fair bit of anxiety worrying if the kitchen sees these requests (that have been ignored in the past by other restaurants), it was reassuring that the kitchen saw the request and took the time to confirm the request on the container. It was an immediate relief and it felt so thoughtful. The coup has consistently made delicious and hearty meals, and is the perfect place for happy soul food. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Excellent food and service plus the Coconut chai latte is made with love
Excellent service, great atmosphere (loved the 80 s Lounge Covers playlist!), amazing food & drinks. Definitely coming here again.
The food is thoughtfully prepared, the prices are fair and the staff are friendly and personable. I can t wait to come back to try other menu items!
Fantastic food, served quickly and adjusted to work for our party of 3. Great experience! Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian with lots of dairy free/vegan options
My favourite restaurant for years, for good reason. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently top-tier. I recently came for a birthday dinner and the staff went above and beyond to make it special, even all signing a card for me. I cant wait to come back again, and again. Vegetarian options: Everything on the menu is vegetarian, and everone I bring with me who isnt vegetarian absolutely loves the food too!
Amazing service and food!
Nikita is such a lovely server. Beautiful energy, kind, and knowledgeable Great food Great atmosphere Food : 5/5
Yummy.... fabulous food, amazing staff and a really great lunch. Im not a vegetarian but love vegetarian food and The Coup excelled in my expectations. Definitely going again... Vegetarian options: Great choice....I had the dragon bowl with chickpeas and rice with the coconut curry sauce and potatoes wedges....
This is the best restaurant in Calgary. Regardless if youre vegetarian or vegan, the food will blow you away. They are always coming out with creative new dishes. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/vegan food by design
We enjoyed the Black Dragon Sushi, Tempeh Shawarma, and Espresso Cheesecake. It was probably some of the best vegan food Ive had in the city by far the cheesecake was so creamy.
Food was amazing! Make sure you go and see George! He has the best suggestions!
Food was absolutely delicious with recommendations by George. Will be back!
Five star experience
Vegetarian options: Always and some dishes can be made plant-based. Just ask! Dietary restrictions: Just let the server know. So many options! Food : 5/5 |
Consistently great food and friendly service :-) very tasty dishes.
Good sized portions, felt the value was appropriate and left feeling full. Very nice flavours, and pleasant staff, will come again! Food : 5/5
Food was amazing! Our server George was fantastic. He was great at making suggestions, telling jokes, and general conversation. We had a long expired gift certificate, but we were still given a 25% discount on our meals. We will definitely be back! Dietary restrictions: Great dietary restrictions. I am gluten free and there were lots if vegan options too.
Service is fantastic, they could just use more staff! Might have been short staffed that night though. Would very much recommend. Amazing food.
Great options and we ordered a few different things and loved them all. I will be back for sure!! Vegetarian options: Vegan here. It was all very good. Asked for some variations. Kid-friendliness: Good and friendly with kiddos.
Our waiter was super lovely and accommodating. The food was fantastic, quite big portions too so we both took leftovers home.
An excellent atmosphere with fantastic food and service.
Awesome food, brunch was fresh and flavourful.
An amazing vegetarian resto with so many options
Great vegetarian in Calgary (sushi as well) . Good atmosphere, great service. Had the falafel shareable plate at happy hour (5$ off) . Best falafel I ve had. Tasty with a little sweetness in a platter with fresh veggies, hummus, tahini.
Ive been to The Coup a good number of times. The service and food is always great. They seem to change their menu on a regular basis and Ive seen a few variations on their offerings. When I go to The Coup, I enjoy the Satay Bowl (with tofu) and the Tree House Sandwich (Vegan). Today I went for lunch with my friend and we ate on the patio. The service from the two servers was great and we both enjoyed our food. Vegetarian options: The restaurant is fully vegetarian with most items being vegan. Lots of items to choose from. Dietary restrictions: They have piles of gluten free options. Also most of their items (if not all) can be made vegan. I am vegan and was able to get my Treehouse Sandwich made vegan.
Amazing food! Best vegetarian restaurant in Calgary !!
Bad
Went there to dine in with my wife and son. Stood at the entrance for 10 mins. No one attended us. I went to the bartender to see whats going on. Her words You are here because no one came to get you seated. We are very busy here. We cant be everywhere, right. Unfortunately, youll just have to wait. We waited another 5 mins. Still no one attended and most of the tables were empty. I realized if they are taking this long to just get us seated, how long itll be for the food. We left and ate at Habesha resturant. Amazing food and service there. For coup, heres the thing you can improve on: ask your bartender not to treat your customers like they are their for the job interview that I desperately needed. Second thing they can learn is to atleast acknowledge your customers if theres a wait. A simple, will be there with you soon wouldve made us feel a little welcomed. Probably not going back anytime soon. If anyone looking for vegan food, vegan street is a good place to go. Cheers.
Very average food, totally lacking in imagination. The service is average. The atmosphere is average. I used to pop in every once in a while. I gave up. There are lots of better places to eat in Calgary.
Awesome experience- if you really want to have real taste of vegetarian food- must go there
the service so bad and make us waiting without any menu or help to order for 20mins and the owner ( the lady) very RUDE and offended just because we ask the menu to the cashier table and shouting at us to be patient and asked us to leave if we don t want to wait Never experienced this before..crazy
Wonderful spot for dinner using fresh and high quality ingredients. The service was excellent and I look forward to a return visit.
Great food I had the drunken noodles and that was sooo good perfect cook on the veg and Ashley was amazing and so friendly
Had the most wonderful and friendly service from the lovely Ashley! She was so personable, kind and went above and beyond to make sure we had the best meal! The food definitely exceeded all expectations.
Liam and Jay were awesome and the food was out of the world . Really tasty food and the service was just amazing
Just loved the freedom of choosing from a range of vegetarian options! The food looked amazing and tasted even better. Liam took care of the ordering and serving, he was kind and friendly. The atmosphere was quiet and dim lit, perfect for a date. Highly recommend!
We were new so George brought us out a selection of dishes - everything was amazing
Thank you for the wonderful service, George!
Amazing!!! Everything we tried was unbelievable- not a bad bite. George was the best host, we left the decisions up to him and he did not disappoint!
George was an incredible host! We let him pick our meals and he was so knowledgeable. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
We came in with a larger group, and George brought us out a handpicked selection of appetizers and mains. He has great taste and was a showed us a good night of dining!
The food was amazing! It was beyond my expectations
Fantastic service, excellent food. Strongly recommend the brocoli!
Outstanding food and service with tons of gluten free options. I didn t know vegetarian food could be so tasty!

George was the best! Recommended the most delicious wine and dinner! Highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Hot pot is the best!
Great place!! Thanks for the great food and wine suggestions George!! Vegetarian options: So many options. Everything was good Dietary restrictions: So accommodating Parking: Street parking was easy to find
We visited this place for our anniversary dinner and had a fantastic experience. We tried the Red Mile, tempeh shawarma, and espresso cheesecake. The Red Mile was pleasantly sweet, which I loved. The tempeh shawarma was perfectly grilled, and the accompanying hot sauce had just the right amount of spice. The espresso cheesecake was the highlight of the meal and was also vegan.
Amazed with the eggplant sushi!! Too good to be true
Best veggie restaurant in Calgary. Great little wine list.
For a non vegetarian, i was very impressed with the food, very good. The server I think was having a bad day and made the experience a bit unpleasant but still, food is a must. I recommend the broccoli.
On the 17th, I experienced the best service I could have hoped for. Despite having a rough day, the staff went above and beyond to take care of me. Ashleys genuine kindness and attentiveness truly made a difference.
We were visiting from out of town and absolutely loved it here. Our server George was so nice, funny, and personable. The food was incredible. Will be back next time I m in town :)
Happened to be walking past while on vacation and stumbled in. The place was amazing and immediately inviting into a great relaxed atmosphere! Our server was George and he took care of us with the upmost service! Huge thank you to George!
Amazing place, amazing food!! amazing service!! our server George was awesome and friendly, he took great care of us! We will absolutely be back!
Super dope spot, the vibe of the atmosphere was amazing, the service from George was incredible, and the food was so delicious! I highly recommend this spot if you want to have a great evening well spent!
Fantastic atmosphere, outstanding service especially from our server George!! Super hospitable and overall friendly. Food was amazing! I would highly recommend stopping in for dinner.
Really good spot to eat with good vibes service was immaculate from George the man, good music and great food
I ordered falafel platter. Loaded with vegan options.
First negative review I have ever posted. In Alberta for a family funeral. Rural Alberta can be difficult dining for vegans. Drove 2 hours to this restaurant. Website clearly states it closes at 10 pm. Arrived at 8:18 to be smugly told by the Bartender/Hostess that the last seating is at 8:00. Three occupied tables in the whole restaurant. We asked if they can recommend a restaurant serving vegan food and she replied no and walked away.
Fantastic
Ashley was amazing !! She gave us the wonderful experience we were looking for as vegetarians in Calgary! From apps to dessert and wine , highly recommend anything here! Thank you and we will be back!
I love this place. Vegetarian and some vegan, artisan eats and fun, personable staff. Can t wait to go back. Vegetarian options: A wonderful place to get artisan vegetarian-free meals
Super flavourful, fish texture on the sushi was awesome. 100% recommend Vegetarian options: Im vegan and really enjoyed everything Food : 5/5 |
Had the eggplant sushi, the spicy sweet potato falafel, and brussel sprouts. The falafel and brussel.sprputs were some of the best I ever tasted. Really great food and plenty of options. Had ginseng iced tea as well. Went here as part of taste the city. Vegetarian options: Its a vegan restaurant so the whole menu works.
It s been a very long time since I ve visited this gem but was reminded last night about why we should go here more often! We are not vegetarian at all but loveddddd the dishes here. Falafels, roasted brussel sprouts, satay broccoli, tempeh shawarma, spicy gyoza were so good. Highly recommend!! Amazing service too.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Plenty of delicious appetizers and entrees to choose from. A favorite of mine to have a nice night out. Vegetarian options: Full vegetarian menu Dietary restrictions: Plentiful and clearly labeled GF and vegan options Parking: Free (after 6pm) street parking in front and a lot in behind
Spicy Tofu Rice Bowl. So damn good. Also enjoyed the Kale caeser (kale could have been massaged a but more), but it was still delicious. Cant wait to come back to try the sushi rolls.
Best vegetarian restaurant in town. Had the delicious peanut curry with lotus root, very savory, did not miss the meat at all.
I think we got the wrong kind of sushi by mistake but it still tasted nice. Our server was so lovely!
The food was great. Service was absent..
George was fantastic!!
The front of the restaurant looks worn, but inside is much nicer. Overall, had an incredible experience at The Coup. Shared a Black Dragon Sushi. We had the Beach front Hot Pot, Tempeh Shwarma, and Kale ceasar. All these dishes were excellent and would recommend. The service was excellent. I loom forward to going again.
Grad amazing Brussel sprouts dish and some funky breaded broccoli chicken wings with drinks. It was delicious! Am not vegetarian but would 100% go back
Everything tasted good. I personally wouldnt justify often the price for the Beach Front Hot Pot and the sushi The Red Mile . I got some mushroom and tempeh added to the hot pot and it cost me $35, it was not what I would call a $35 meal personally, but it did taste good. Just expected alot more broth for that price. It wasnt a full swimming bowl if broth like the photo I saw, just a little container. Maybe its because i got takeout, for the price there should be 2 of those little containers of broth or a large one full. Sushi was good but they were pretty fall apart comparable to any other sushi Ive had in my life, and it didnt come with wasabi or soy sauce or chopsticks or anything other than a few pieces of ginger. It also tasted good though. I really enjoyed the apple cider and spa drink. Im recovering from illness and these meals and drinks felt really good for that. I just dont know if it was worth the cost they have it at and I even got a discount for a summer dash deal. it seems quite inflated for what you get, and the condiments you dont get with the sushi. But overall great flavors and concept. The food and drinks did feel quite healing. Add On - Falafel was too salty. I havent eaten the kimchi yet because it wasnt calling to my stomach yesterday once I got it. Overall good food, need to work on their sushi rolling or get stickier rice, and send it with some soy sauce and Wasabi and disposable chopsticks if Im paying $18 for 1 vegan roll. I pay less for that for real fresh seafood rolls and get all the condiments. But flavours in all the food were chefs kiss great. Good recovery food.
Won t honour gift cards as owners have changed
The food is fantastic, staff is friendly and the patio refreshingly breezy. 10/10 would eat there again!
Foods are good in taste, presentation. The portion is fare. People are nice.
The food was very good but not as much as the service. Liam, served me with enthusiasm and care, giving me useful tips on my food choice, accepting to do a type of tea not on the menu (London fog), checking on me and refilling my glass several times but respecting my space. I also forgot my iPad on the table and found it safe and charged by Liam. Will definitely be back next time I am in town.
Everything was so delicious! Ashley was our server and she was amazing. Will definitely go again.
Good quality, average taste food. But it is bit expensive.
Probably the best veggie meal I have ever had! .and the waiter sang me happy birthday Vegetarian options: Delicious
We ve had the Drunken Noodles and the Mapu Ragu. Both great, but the Ragu was incredibly delicious. Very kind service team, classy wooden furniture. In a nutshell: fantastic.
Had their udon soup, it was incredibly delicious & their service was great! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian meal was super delicious and everyone had different items that they thoroughly enjoyed. Dietary restrictions: Celiac option
just awesome George was amazing.
Great food. Thank you George for surmising us with the food order and giving us a great experiences Vegetarian options: Thank you.
So delicious and the service from George was great - super helpful, he picked our dishes for the table and they were fantastic.
Absolutely delicious! Our fantastic server brought us a variety of appies, mains and desserts for our group to share family style and WOW everything was incredible! Highly recommend for anyone to come and enjoy an incredible meal, fantastic service and experience.
Had a great meal! Service was excellent!
I love this place so much. Brunch and mimosas was delightful Service is always lovely. I got one of the brunch exclusives. The sourdough bread was so good! Tofu was delicious. Super satisfied and happy with it, and would love to come back for more. Thank you for being awesome Vegetarian options: Options for vegetarians but all menu is vegan how wonderful! And its good food. Its the best in town in my opinion!
Excellent falafels sharing platter! So much flavour. The black dragon sushi was also excellent. George was a delight as a server, as well. Parking: There is currently construction on 17Av so you ll need to park a block or so away and walk there.
Service was great, food was great. We will be back.
So good!
I absolutely LOVE The Coup!!! I have dietary restrictions and they are always so accommodating. The food is amazing, Jules is awesome and so nice and Liam is great too!! All of the front staff are wonderful. You can tell everyone truly cares about the quality of their food and the service. I order all the time and they are consistently amazing. 100% recommend!! Vegetarian options: Absolutely amazing vegetarian options! Try the sushi - so good! Dietary restrictions: The best restaurant for accommodating dietary restrictions, and they are SO nice about it!
Orderded a bottle of French wine to go with dinner... Waiter plonked down a bottle of without saying a single word! We reminded him of our order. Replied that they had run out of it. To top it off, we got charged for the French instead of the
The Coup is awesome... fantastic service, delicious food and a great atmosphere. Worth every penny! Went on a night when they were short 2 people in the kitchen and you wouldnt have known, thanks for the hard work getting our food out quickly.
Who knew vegetarian could be this good! Great food and well sized portions.
Great Vegetarian Food!!
I was travelling to Calgary for business with a colleague of mine, and while looking around for vegetarian/vegan options, this place was recommended. With its rave reviews, we figured wed give it a shot since it was close by. Definitely worth the walk and the amount spent! Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We walked in an hour before closing and he never rushed us nor did he make us feel like we had to scarf our food down to leave on time. The food was one of the best vegan food weve had in a long time! Everything was seasoned perfectly for our tastebuds! I had the satay bowl while my colleague had the upstream burger with rosemary potatoes. We even shared the ube cheesecake, which was absolutely divine! Well definitely stop by again when we find ourselves in Calgary on another trip!
Liam was great!! Dietary restrictions: . Parking: ..
Simply just a great place for tasty & healthy bites and aesthetics
Food is decent however they clearly cant follow instructions. I ask for the treehouse sandwich to be vegan, and the box even said vegan. Yet there was still cheese! This is the second time this has happened, where I am in person and explicitly say no cheese.
The service is terrible. The hostess gave attitude when walked in. George the waiter also forgot our orders. Had to be reminded to bring our drinks. Service is not it. Really rude staff. The eggs Benedict was not warm, bread was impossible to cut.
Amazing vegetarian options to satisfy any craving or hunger. Delicious craft cocktail selection Food
The manager Jules went above and beyond to make my experience as good as can be.
George was an exceptional server. He made great recommendations. The treejouse sandwich was unbelievably delicious, as were the roasted potatoes on the side. Lots of gluten-free options for husband. He loved his sushi. The sweet potato fries were biiiiig planks. We took leftovers home. And we didnt have room for use cheesecake and almond cake, but we knew we had to try them. My coconut milk Chai latte was delicate and tasty. Village Cider was tasty! Wish we lived closer. Fun atmosphere and decor. Food came out quickly and was very good. Vegetarian options: Its a vegetarian restaurant! Enjoyed the egg in my Tree house sandwich. Dietary restrictions: Great gluten-free options. Parking: Free street parking after 630 pm.
Wonderful dining experience- absolutely delicious food !!! Service was excellent- lots of interaction with the staff! We ll be back!!! Food : 5/5
A great birthday dinner - George was awesome and his menu suggestions were spot on. Dietary restrictions: Super easy menu to navigate with a gluten sensitivity.
Good place to go, even if you std not vegan like me. Good quality ingredients and delicious combination of flavours.
The Brussels sprouts are to die for and the dragon bowl is also delicious. George took excellent care of us and helped make my grandmother s 97th birthday a wonderful, generous and lovely experience. Kid-friendliness: My 9 year old daughter enjoyed the sushi and she was given a Shirley Temple to start the dinner!
Red Mile Roll is a must have!!! Amazingly good!
Ashley was the best ever. She treated us so well; she was friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful. It was a perfect evening. Vegetarian options: They can veganize most dishes. They are delicious!
Thank you for squeezing us in for my daughters birthday!! Food was fabulous, but the service really stood out! Cant wait to be back. Kid-friendliness: Chef was very happy to accomodate an off menu request :)
Service George provided was a amazing!
So I visited this restaurant again today and ordered this burger. Let me tell you this, the burger was awesome, and it came in large portion. Ive been coming here for the past one year and I am really impressed with what this restaurant has to offer. Ive tried most of their menu, and overall their food is great. The staff is friendly and they explain the menu thoroughly if you have any doubts. The atmosphere is in general gives cozy vibes. I usually bring my friends to this place and they love it here. My suggestion is that if youre looking for great vegan and vegetarian options, then this is the PLACE To GO in Calgary. Heres the photo of burger that I had today.
Dinner was amazing! George was a gorgeous host who made our experience the best!
Amazing waiter George, such high spirits so friendly and made the experience so much better Food
George was a very nice and kind waiter and the food was very good
Cozy place and staff is awesome, but the menu is lacklustre.
The food at The Coup is to die for - Jules has really knocked it out of the park with some incredible flavour pairings that I haven t had before. I ll be talking about that blistered shishito pepper and picked mustard seeds on the end of summer roll for a while! My partner and I tried it out for the first time since new kitchen management has taken over and holy cannoli they ve really taken this place in a fantastic direction! We can t wait for another opportunity to try some more food on the menu - highly recommend!
The Coup was one of the first veg restaurants here in cowtown and has been a significant location for food equity. So many other vegan/vegetarian restaurants have gone under or started to sell meat to try appeal to more people... AND theres a reason The Coup is still standing! If you havent been in a while you really should head back down, because they keep their menu fresh. Their head chef, Jules, is a wizard. They have added sushi to the menu and even sell it half price on Mondays! Its upscale, central and honestly a dang good price for what you get... especially if you check out their specials! Try the broccoli appetizer, itll change you. Super happy to see the brunch back on the menu. Excited to go check it out.
Two of us enjoyed gyoza, mapo ragu, drunken noodles, and espresso cheese cake with a birthday candle. The food was delicious. Server was pleasant. Overall great experience.
We had not been in a long time as we got bored of their never changing menu. I was pleasantly surprised to find the menu had been updated with an Asian infusion style on a lot of dishes. It was a lot better then I remember. We will be back. Hopefully they keep the menu fresh at least once a year!
Im glad I was able to specify stars, because the service was phenomenal. George was friendly and attentive, and was really helpful. The atmosphere is, as always, beautiful. We tried the broccoli appetizer and it was incredible, I would order that again. Unfortunately the same cant be said for the Satay Bowl, Ive loved this dish in the past, but the quality and taste has changed drastically. Hoping things change as this has frequently been a go to when in the area!
The Bao burgers are amazing
From the moment you walk in, you feel in a great environment. The food is delicious and the staff are great. Highly recommend the Tempeh shawarma.
Had the Upstream Burger and my god it was DELICIOUS!! Absolutely recommend this restaurant and this dish the staff are so friendly and the place is very welcoming love this place
Great food, horrible service. Took 10-15 minutes to be seen. She forgot the drinks completely and I ordered a side of sauce and she didn t bring it and then didn t check in how the food was for us to even remind her of the missing items. Then we were the last table and it took 5 minutes to come take our plates and give the cheque. It was bizarre.
We had an amazing meal at The Coup. The flavours just exploded in your mouth. You could tell that a lot of attention went into making this food. You have to try the chai latte as well! Vegetarian options: This Coup offers only a vegetarian menu
Went for a weekend brunch, service with George was great. The food was also delicious for us (we do enjoy meat), but the messy Jessy and pancakes were just delectable. Would come back for more anytime!
I recently shifted to a mostly plant-based diet and I ve always wanted to try this restaurant so we dined in for this year s valentine s day. The food was delightful, especially the hot pot and the broccoli appetizer shaped like drumsticks were my favourite. The drunken noodle was tasty as well, but the yam tempura didn t quite match my preference. I expected more crispiness, but it tasted more like oven-baked yam than tempura (Japanese style deep fried). The espresso cheesecake was a highlight, and although we were quite full from the carbs, I m glad my husband insisted on trying it; it turned out to be the best part of the meal. On the flip side, the downside was the seating the tables were tiny and so close together that we felt a bit awkward, lacking privacy as we could hear every conversation around us. Vegetarian options: This restaurant is fully vegan/ vegetarian restaurant.
It is rare to find such friendly service :)
After smelling grease saturated meals all afternoon, all I wanted was something that had a few vegetables. My sister recommended The Coup, and it felt just right. The cozy eastern vibe, is punctuated by the warm, and friendly service, a great contrast to the weather. There really is not a bad choice that I could see, yet the Gyozas, and the drunken noodles stood out. I was not disappointed with either option, and as I said to my sister after trying her food, there are no losers for best meal tonight. The creamy, curry coconut milk, was a perfect side the thick udon noodles, and pocketed by the perfect amount of grilled tofu. Our night was capped off with an ubi hot chocolate, that you will have to have quickly, as it will be gone by the end of the month.
Unreal place with great food and super friendly staff. George is especially great!
Terrific food George is great the perfect personality and his recommendation perfection Food
You should try it once
George was absolutely fantastic. A great experience overall. Thanks for a good evening out!
Took my girlfriend out for a birthday dinner here, wanted to accomodate some friends with allergies and vegan preferences. Food was amazing, our server George took fantastic care of us all.
Worst customer service for doordash/ubereats driver Always long wait time and they don t treat drivers equally Such a discrimination!!! Food : 1/5
Unfortunately this restaurant has slid into mid. It s just ok. I wish they had more drink options including mocktails.
Such a cute place! Very tasty veggie foods. I had eggs benny for brunch and the Vietnamese coffee. Delicious. Amazing service too, go see George !
Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, very attentive, inviting ambiance! Treated us like royalty. Even a special treat for the birthday girl. Highly recommend you check them out!
One of the best experience everytime we come here. Best taste and unique preparation. As always a rocking experience. Vegetarian options: Cucumber salad - one of the best yam fries actually its baked one
So my bf and I went there yesterday, Monday March 18th/24, since all vegan restaurants apparently closed on mondays. We decided to give it a chance, even though my friends told me that that place is trash. We were both too hungry and I didn t feel like cooking. We got there, place was not busy, 3 tables only. Had to wait about 3-4 mins to be seated. Place was freezing. We sat down, ordered drinks. Took about 7-9 mins to get drinks, despite the fact, the place was not busy at all. Finally after 15 mins the waiter took our order. We ordered appetizer and 2 entrees. The food took 43 mins! Yet DoorDash drivers were given food right away! Then 43 mins later, food arrives. Our entrees came first!!! 5 mins later appetizers. We ordered shimeji deep fried mushrooms, were so greasy and cold! Same with our entrees, cold, greasy and so salty!!! I ate some of it, cause I was starving and just came from the gym after 3.5 hour hardcore workout. My bf has shawarma. He ate half and couldn t finish, cause it was just salt. Sweet potato wedges were good, so were my potatoes. But my burger was dripping oil and all I could taste was salt. Soy gravy was also, just salt. By the time I came home, I was so sick to my stomach, I was puking my guts and out and had diarrhea from all that grease. We only went to try this place cause it was the only place that was open and sounded decent, but boy, were we wrong about it. Never again. My friends were right. Its trash. Well, food is. And didn t like the service, cause customers wether were at the restaurant, were treated as a second class citizens. DoorDash drivers were the priority. I was watching how long it took for the kitchen to produce plates for other people in the restaurant, and they were waiting for a long time, around 40-50 mins. Ridiculous! So if you re into eating salt soaked in cold oil and being ignored, this is the perfect place for you!!!
We Had lunch there today and it was fantastic! Thanks Libby for the wonderful service and recommendations.
amazing food and service
Very good service staff, delicious food and good prices, the best chef Christian

The Brussel sprouts are to die for and the service was excellent, very pleasent server with incredible recommendations!
The Coup is always a fantastic dining experience. The food is top notch and the service great. You can never go wrong with a dinner out at a The Coup.
the best ever!!
Great service, George is amazing.
My fellow Indians if you want to try Coup, You will have to be here with an open mind and forget about your taste palette back home if you can. You will enjoy it if you follow the above rule and are open to explore other cuisines. Superb place to try vegan food with no stress of meat.
Thanks George! Vegetarian options: X Food : 5/5 |
Amazing service! George recommended the best items and gave incredible service! The food was so good. Loved the beach front hot pot!!
Friendly staff but a bit pressured to eat quickly BUT recommended food was delicious! The mix of flvours and texture were fantastic. Ill be back and hopefully not rushed.
When we sat down, our waiter George asked if we would just like him to bring dishes for us instead of ordering. The rest of the meal was a delightfully succession of delicious dishes. Do come to The Coupe, and if you get George as your waiter, definitely ask for his surprise menu. Vegetarian options: All the vegan dishes were delicious.
Ive never been to somewhere where I felt like cattle more than The Coup. The hostess required special permission to seat us without a reservation, despite multiple open tables and the place only thinned out as we stayed. The server routinely didnt look at us while asking us questions. Plates were plopped onto the table, drinks too, spilling one. When ordering, my first request was met with Youre missing out on the _______. When I verified that I wanted what I asked for, they insisted I take the other dish. Their recommendation was fine. We also got the veggies and dip. Near as I can tell, they were three grocery store dips served alongside barely cut veggies. For example, the cucumber slices were too big to fit in the tiny dip containers and needed to be cut again to eat. All in all, terrible service experience, fine but underwhelming food. The one great thing was the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest Ube Hot Chocolate, which was our favourite of the four we had had that day. If you find yourself here for any reason other than YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, best fly the coup.
Lovely small restaurant with a hippie vibe. The food is excellent, copious and delicious, nutritious and well presented. The flavours and unique combinations are very pleasing. The setting is convivial though simple. We ate at lunchtime, ordered an appetizer and main for $25/person and took some home since we couldnt finish it!
Always a pleasure! My partner and I love coming here, the food is consistently phenomenal and the staff are passionate and friendly. Highly recommend this place for all, whether or not youre vegetarian or vegan. Everything weve tried has been fantastic, our favorites are the Drunken Noodles and Beach Front Hot Pot but the sushi is also a must-try. Go before the end of the month to catch their Ube Hot Chocolate!
Great experience. Whether you are going out for a quick drink or a date, a family outing or a casual meal you won t be disappointed. Coup is one of our favourite restaurants.
Ask for Geroge
We went to celebrate our anniversary dinner. I tried Satay Broccoli and Sushi Roll as appetizers. In main I had Drunkey Noodles and Falafel Quesadilla. The food was hot and perfect balance of taste. I was delighted with the meal. Staff was efficient, happy and polite,.I was surprised by anniversary card and served special dessert that they going to launch on Valentines day. Dont forget to check it out on Feb 14th. My recommendation is 10/10.
Really nice surprise discovering this spot. Food is sooooo tasty. Some even better than meat dishes elsewhere. Will definitely go again!
Great experience! Our server George gave us great menu recommendations and service! Vegetarian options: All great options
Food was good. Bit expensive. Waiter was rude. He was the only server for entire time may be thats why he was frustrated specifically 14th feb.
The food was amazing! Unbelievable! The best brussel sprouts I ve ever had! And Ashley was a doll, so sweet and wonderful! Of course will be returning, and highly recommend. My date said he might even go vegetarian! Food
George is great. Great voice. Great service. Unique personality. 10/10 food. Would recommend. Food : 5/5

George and the food are incredible. Thank you for having us for an epic brunch!
Great meal. Ashely took really good care of us, excellent service. All round good time
The drunken noodles and gyoza were amazing. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family ! Flavour profile was unique and unlike anything I ve ever had before Amazing service too Food : 5/5
I wish I could give our Server George 100 stars. He was the best server ever. Got our food on time, checked in without being overbearing haha, and he was just so fun and nice to us. The food was obviously amazing but the interior design and service is what will bring me back. PLUS THEY GAVE ME CAKE FOR MY BIRTHDAY. UBE CHEESECAKE. YAYYYY. We ordered crispy wontons, drunken noodles, and crispy potatoes.
Nice!
Had a very positive experience. Went here 3 or 4 times a number of years ago and was rather unenthused. Went back and was happily surprised with their inspired menu with Asian influence. Vegetarian cooking has come a long way in the last 10 years, and these innovative and flavourful dishes are great examples of that. The broccoli and the gyoza were both amazing dishes.
Always an amazing time! Food is great and dessert is even better. The ube cheesecake is a must try!
George has been such a delight from beginning to end. My SIL and I haven t been to the Coup for some years (I ve been in the US & recently moved back). We asked him if he recommends the crispy potatoes or sweet potatoes & he said broccoli. we went with his recommendation and it was amazing!! George doesn t fake friendliness and partake in meaningless small talk. 15/10 best service and food I ve had in a long time!
George has the maritime personality we love. We re definitely coming back just to be served by him. The food and drinks were amazing, but George tops the icing on the cake!!!! Thank you George!
