We met a friend here for lunch. Very cosy atmosphere. Food was great! Service was great!

We have never been disappointed. I recommend everything. Wine selection is great. The best old fashion/ moonshine one. Ever .. mussels in french onion or in potato onion the best we ever had. When we say hey lets go out for a dinner date. No questions asked where we are going. The palate is very satisfied eatting here, oh the flavours ..still feel the same today

Been to the Bistro with family and friends. Had the striploin steak with truffle butter on two occasions, and they were so good. Cooked to perfection, and so flavorful. Will be going back for sure!!!

The service and food were beyond excellent tonight. We didnt wait long to get seated, drinks arrived, orders taken and everything just fell in to place without a hitch. Weve eaten our all over the world and we would rate here better than a 10, all around. We had the escargot (fabulous), Steaks with their House special salad, fresh carrots and sweet potatoes fries. Not that we needed it but we had the best Plunger coffee and creme Brule.....magnificent. We will be back. If you are looking for the BEST dinner Night out...Go here!!!!

Our cycling group of 22 from Sudbury stopped in for lunch on the patio. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and their own special herb was amazing. Will definitely return,

I m not one to leave reviews but 1886 blew us away! My family came here for dinner tonight and the food was phenomenal. We can t believe it s taken us this long to dine here, but now it will be our spot. Of 6 people, all who got different meals, everyone loved it. Appetizers, mains and desserts were all 10/10. So many options between the menu and their specials. The service was also great, not only from our server, but others as well!

The food and our server was a 5 out of 5 . Unfortunately, the woman who seated us ruined the whole atmosphere. We were seated in a booth. I asked if we could move to a table with chairs. I have some medical issues and I found the booth very uncomfortable. As we weren t making our way to another table, the woman who was seating other people completely lost it on me. We were not suppose to move, she was yelling at me that there was areas with double service? When I said I was uncomfortable in the booth she continuously be very rude. At one point I thought she was not going to allow us to move. thru the meal she continued to be rude. Most unpleasant service I have ever received in all my life.

I asked for a bit of red in my steak. I was told medium rare. My steak came rare. I sent it back, it came back the same. I took it home and cooked it myself. Waitress had to be reminded about beverage. I asked for all the bills and she gave the other couple their bill. The food is delicious, but I was disappointed in my steak and the service.

This is a gem . We were visiting family on Trout Lake and Saturday we went to the Lake House Bistro for dinner. Wonderful atmosphere, with a choice of patio or inside dining. Our server was very friendly and helpful!. Caesars salad was wonderful and everyone enjoyed their choices. My bison meatloaf was exceptional, and the Monk fish special was very tasty. Another member of our group had the pickerel fritters and certainly enjoyed her choice!! I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant which endeavours to source locally!!Bravo!!

One of the best dine-in restaurants in the area! Amazing quality food and the price tags are quite reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. The steaks, duck, coq au vin etc are all very worth it! Weve tried nearly everything on the menu as this is our go-to date night spot. Servers are always lovely. Highly recommend! *space is small though so do recommend booking a reservation.

Lovely restaurant in Callendar, just south of North Bay. Food was amazing, and we will definitely return! Recommend the French onion soup and Nippising burger and look forward to trying more items next time. Good selection of vegan items too.

We had a lovely meal at our favourite local restaurant and again, service and food were impeccable! We like to visit every couple months, most times for a late lunch, but we did dinner this time. Starter was their magnificent heirloom tomato bruschetta, never disappoints! I included a photo of the mushroom risotto balls, even though I didnt have them this time (from oir last visit), they are fantastic and wanted share how amazing they look. Hubs had the pickerel fish and chips dinner (his fav) and I tried the Vegetable Wellington...oh my goodness!! Absolutely amazing and you wont miss the meat. I an not vegetarian (our daughter is), but I appreciate thoughtful, creative and delicious meals for those not wanting to eat meat. Overall another fab experience and the owner is so nice and sweet. Anyone on the fence about going, just go, you will not regret it. Quieter in the winter, very busy in the summer with tourists, patio is a great draw. Looking forward to our next visit!

Been coming here for the last couple years and more frequently in the last year. Pretty much the only place in North Bay and surrounding area worth going out to these days. Food, Service, Drinks and Atmosphere are always absolute top tier. Fresh ingredients, amazing specials, the list goes on. 10/10 recommend.

We Have been to the Lake House several times usually for a celebration and have always been pleased. The service is great and we love the ambiance. Sadly to say we celebrated my sons Birthday and I had told him about the Duck Poivre which he ordered. Unfortunately today it was tough so he asked for a steak knife which did little to remedy his difficulty and I was wishing I hadnt told him how good it was. I had the fish and chips for the first time and was disappointed as my fish was literally four strings 5 inches long and less than a half an inch in diameter but battered to about 1-1/4 to 2 inch diameter. I found it very heavy as the grease had soaked in to all that batter . I would not order that again perhaps I just have two high of standards but that was just too much batter to fish ratio.. Everything else was great as was the service. We mentioned the Tough Duck to the waitress but nothing was done and I did not mention the fish so in all fairness to the restaurant they could not do anything for me. Notwithstanding this hiccup we will be back.

Hands down our favorite place to eat, period. They never disappoint. Everything on the menu is delicious, and the cocktails are equally good. I had coffee for the first time today, and it is the only place I have gotten it where it actually tastes like coffee...good coffee. They serve it in French press style, and it holds 2-3 cups. Thanks once again for a wonderful meal!

Had a few disappointing experiences here in the past, but we received a gift card from some friends so we said why not. Glad we did definitely the best experience yet! We are very pleased with our experiences at this restaurant! Staff are amazing and so lovely. The food is very tasty and seasoned well. We have been twice and will return. The cocktails are lovely as is the wine. Definitely recommend! We come from Burks falls and it is one of best restaurants between Huntsville to North Bay. I am celiac and they have a designated fryer and many gluten free options! For me this makes it even more special!

In my visits to the Bistro they have yet to fail to present unique and creatively prepared dishes, along with great service. Definitely among the finest restaurants in the region and worth a drive to beautiful Callander.

Terrible cocktail, not made properly, lukewarm escargot, and coleslaw served with the fish fritters was brown. The pickeral fritters werent awful. Just by this point I was just over it.

Weve been here a few times and really love everything about the place. From the atmosphere, staff and of course the food everything is on point. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, welcoming/inviting and pleasant. In the summer they have a cute patio outside and in the winter they have a warmth inside with dim dinner lighting. We had a really nice waitress who not only went above and beyond but also had some great recommendations when it came to desserts and main courses. She really took the time to pay attention to her guests and the table making sure the correct cutlery was given depending on the dish being served and was quick to clear the table. Definitely invested herself to create the best experience. The Appetizer: We got onion soup which was cheesy, onions were well caramelized and full of flavour to the very last spoon and it was served in an adorable soup bowl. This was my first time trying Escargot and honestly it was pretty awesome. It was rich in flavour, not too rubbery/chewy and better then I could have imagined snails to taste. The only other place I would want to experience this is in France itself:) Our waitress went the extra mile to bring us some extra toast to dip into all the buttery goodness left. Main Course: I had Fish and Chips, my partner had the Nipissing Burger. Im not going to lie my Fish & Chips was good but omg his burger was so much better. Next time we visit the burger is what Im getting. The blue cheese (which I normally hate) was surprisingly good and didnt over power or ruin the flavour of everything else in the burger. Burger = 10/10 Dessert We tried 3: creme brûlée, cheesecake & walnut ice cream. The Creme Brûlée won. It was smooth inside and crunchy on top with a hit of coffee flavour in the background. Walnut ice cream was really nice, enjoyed the walnut taste, and the cheesecake was pretty good too. I loved the caramelized apples on top very nice touch. This is one of the few best experiences weve had dinning at a restaurant specially up here. Its locally sourced with great attention to detail and Im not surprised its won Award of Excellence for the last 4 years. Parking: have a small parking not right next to the building Kid-friendliness: seen kids & families there.

Been twice now ...service has been great ...same server both times.. menu is out of my comfort zone , but what I have ordered has been good and the family has enjoyed it as well... Vegetarian options: in my family there is a vegetarian and vegan and there is options for both ...and they both enjoy this restaurant

We went as a small group and were attended to and seated very quickly! Our server was new and a bit nervous, but very attentive and was being supported by fellow staff members (ie. positive words of encouragement). Drinks were ordered and promptly mixed and served, our server had performed this task as well. The Bistro was starting to get busy and soon more staff appeared on the scene, this is when I observed a new person at the bar making drinks. This is when I observed the now bar tender member reaching into several different pickle jars to put accents into drinks, using bare hands, no gloves or tongs. Perhaps it was just me however I did find it made me feel somewhat uneasy especially in this world that we live in today. The food was delicious and the service was top drawer.

The food was Incredible. We had the Bruschetta for a starter. It was absolutely delicious and well displayed on the plate!! I had the Bistro Burger with house Ceasar Salad. Best burger Ive had in years. You could swear the meat was cooked on a BBQ. So juicy, flavorful and filling. The salad was so good, I could have just had that for dinner. My best friend had the fish and chips. The fries were crispy and tasty. The fish was lightly battered and the meat was very flavorful. For dessert we had the Blueberry Cheesecake ice cream. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Grace our waitress was wonderful and attentive without being overbearing. Perfect waitress in my opinion. The atmosphere was very quaint and tasteful. When it got busy it became quite loud in the restaurant. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend it. Sorry folks no pics this time. For sure next time!!

This was a really disappointing experience. The menu was not exciting, the mussels were disgusting (some had gone bad). The service was terrible. They don t carry French or Italian wine. They call themselves gourmet but it s below average and uninspired. Would never recommend. They call themselves fine dining then seat you on plastic lawn furniture at wobbling tables. I don t get how small towns get away with passing off below-average food as fine dining 1886 is a scam and total rip-off

Stumbled upon this place through Google and decided to give it a shot. I can t believe I ve never been here or heard about this place before. The service we go from out waitress Cassi & the wine-expert Megan was great, and the food was amazing, kudos to the kitchen staff & the chef. We will definitely be making the drive out again to eat here.

The farm platter for 26.00 was disappointing. The Genoa salami was grey except for 1/4 of it - probably covered by other slices of salami so it didn t get aerated as badly as the rest of it. That stuff is supposed to be pink like that one edge of it we had. I didn t take a good pic of it. Something was apparently wrong with the mozzarella so we were subbed for goat cheese. I think it probably should ve been at least partially taken off our bill. Not fresh. We didn t eat it as it was something I d have thrown out in my fridge. Your wait staff is really lovely. My burger was over cooked. Tasted a lot of charring but I mostly ate it. This is unusual because last year and years before we were always impressed. Maybe just check quality/freshness before serving - not sure what s changed. But I think something has.

Amazing spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Food is always expertly prepared and worth a little extra. Great cocktails and have discovered some great new wines from their extensive list. Definitely the best restaurant in North Bay and area hands down.

I dine out a lot, probably more than I should. When i found the lakehouse in a small town close to home I didn t have very high expectations. I was wrong The food is consistently amazing, the wait staff are exceptional and the price is on par with lesser chain-restaurants that mostly sell atmosphere. Of the 20+ times I ve been here i would say I ve only ever had one lacklustre meal, and even it was alright. The wine menu is extensive, great place for date night.

So we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon....started with a 1886 ceasar and margarita...and risotto balls for an appetizer...all of which were beyond great...my better half had the nosbonsing burger and I elected for the fish n chips....(walleye)....aside from my fish being slightly under done....(batter was mushy inside)...but I sent it back and the problem was rectified quickly...even tho it was fairly busy....five stars Im my book!! Oh and a blueberry mojito which was great too!

My husband and I had lunch here and were very impressed. I had the Ahi Tuna salad entree and it was so fresh, and my tuna was prepared perfectly. We also tried the pickerel fritters as an appetizer and they were light, and flavourful. My husband had the bistro burger and said it was amazing. We cant wait to come back and try dinner here. Our server was excellent and welcoming. A real gem of the north!

Weve attempted to eat here four times and were only seated once. On our latest visit, we stood for 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged by the staff, who did all they could to avoid eye contact. We were the only ones in line and there were free tables. We left and wont be back. The service is terrible which is too bad because the restaurant itself is nice and the food is decent. Unfortunately, the service ruins the experience and there are plenty more restaurants to eat at that are far more welcoming and appreciative of the customer. ***Your response to our review was ridiculous seeing as it was over a month ago that we were at your establishment, so a complete lie that you say you saw us on your camera. A professional, mature owner would have apologized to us and said that your team would make an effort to try harder. Your employees are clearly taking their cues from management.

Food was overpriced and portions were very small. A good restaurant if you like fancy plating and food but overpriced when you ask to replace your mashed potatoes with a salad and get charged an extra $5 on top of the $27 price of the meatloaf meal. Do not recommend if you dont like ordering exactly what the menu items offer.

Though it was busy, our food came without delay, and was delicious. We had the shrimps st Jacques, chicken and banquet burgers this time, and it was great as always.

Had the best dinner and drinks last night. We had the garlic cranberry goatcheese appetizer My husband had fish n chips as a main and I had the duck, delicious. From our amazing waitress, the amazing food and presentation and patio we dined on was just perfect I also had a blueberry mojito that was in the top 5 cocktails Ive ever had so refreshing and tasty.

I had the pork tenderloin daily special.. delicious. My wife had steak and veggies. Cooked perfectly and delicious.

We went to Callander for our 4 years together Anniversary, we chose this Bistro as it offers great choices for gluten free. Our experience was really good! Big list of alcoholic beverages, great service and atmosphere. The food was all around delish except my main dish the chicken was way to tough. I was a little disappointed as I cant just order anything to replace it. But I would definitely go back as I didnt get sick from gluten. That was nice. Thank you!

This was our first time eating here. Amazing food and service. We were a table of four, and all the meals looked amazing. I had the double pork chop, and the whole meal was delicious. Everything was served in a timely manner and hot. The service was spot on, never left wanting and not overbearing. Friendly and polite. Dessert was also amazing. I can not say enough good things about our experience. Definitely will be back, and I definitely recommend it.

You can t go wrong eating here, the staff and food are always fantastic, they have an extensive drink list and the food has never been bad. Even my kids love eating here, summer has beautiful outdoor seating and inside is very cozy and moody and great for date nights, they also have a bar area and many special events here if you have them on Facebook to see what s going on. Stop into this amazing place if you get the chance it s work it! Parking: Parking is a bit iffy if you are coming on a busy night, it s street parking mostly since there are only a couple of spaces against the restaurant to park. Kid-friendliness: My 2 and 4 year old love it here, they have great healthy food options for them as well.

1886 Lake House Bistro is in the top three fine-dining locations for the North Bay area. Get ready for a rustic asthetic layered with nostalgia to form fine dining in an eclectic blend that works to form its own unique Northern style. The menu is artfully curated with local game and fan favorites. They have a well-stocked drink menu including the most extensive wine list around. The experienced servers elevate your experience and the kitchen delivers consistency every time. Price is appropriate for the menu and market. I recommend this restaurant for supper and very special occasions. They have outdoor dining year-round thanks to their new heated glamping dining tent that seats six. I recently attended the beer and cheese tasting presented by Whiskey Jack Beer Company and really enjoyed the occasion.

I have been here 4 times.My parents came for a visit from Cornwall Ontario and I was bragging about the fish and chips.We were very disappointed as the fish had a lot of batter,hardly any fish to be seen under all that batter,was also greasy.I paid the bill as it was for my fathers Birthday.My Mothers fish was the worst one so it was taken off the bill..Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating.

As you walk in there are 2 options. One side is a quite dinning so you have an intimate experience and on the other side is a more relaxed pub feel you can enjoy a beer with a few buddies. The service and food is some where to go to impress your guest. Overall clean and somewhere I love to return with friends and family. Thanks again.

Delicious Great serving staff

One of the must try places in Callander. We went for dinner based on the reviews. There was a bit of a wait and they were pretty slow with seating. But once seated, the service was quite good! We had the French Onion soup and Lake House Salad. Both were excellent. For the main, I had the Bistro Burger which was alright. My friend had Pate and Terrine and she really liked it.

Id give them 5 stars if their pricing wasnt so expensive. Though their food is quite good. Its very slow for takeout however. Even with pickup, expect to wait 10 minutes at least after their estimate.

We tried this restaurant for the first time, and took a couple of guests for dinner. Unfortunately, we were a bit embarrassed by the experience. The best part of our meal was the friendliness of our server. My husband ordered the meat board, and it came out looking like a leftover (sample sized) pickle-dried-bread-cold salami, and fatty shaved (3slices) proscuitto. It was over $20, and our server looked somewhat leery about even serving it.(she asked is this going to be enough for you? Myself and one of our guests had the grilled cherry bbq chicken sandwich, that was light on the chicken, and the bread was not toasted at all, but was dry and warm. Not a place that we will go back to, or recommend.

Last summer and fall I used to go here quite often and always enjoyed a good meal... But for the last two Sundays, both meals have been quite disappointing...which is unfortunate because the owners and staff are great! I swear they couldn t cook a steak if their life depended on it and they forgot a side to my order. I ve enjoyed their burgers, their pasta (which has pretty much disappeared from their menu).

1886 Lake House Bistro is a real gem near the shores of Lake Nipissing! While our camp was experiencing a power outage we thought it would be nice to skip into Callander for lunch. The decor of the restaurant is bright, cheery and we secured a window seat. The menu and drink options were excellent and the service extraordinary. Based on the food quality and flavors this spot will now be our number one restaurant pick even when the hydro is on ;-)! The only surprise I received surrounded my drink order. When it arrived the amount appeared to be a shot of Negroni and not a full glass. After subsequent visits we still enjoy the quality and consistency of the food but need to lighten our rating to 4 stars from 5. The last negroini I ordered had dried orange peels that were unappealing. Also on our last visit I asked for one more piece of bread to soak up the yummy escargot jucies. Our server said we needed to pay for it and she couldnt sneak it out. Ive visited this establishment many times spending a good amount of money and felt unseen. See your customers !!!

One of the best meals I have had in a while. I started with the shrimp toast after my server Lukes recommendation. That was fantastic so after is recommendation of the lamb burger I went with that. The fries were perfectly cooked and salted. The buyers flavour was fantastic, I would say the meat was too tender and needed a bit more texture or a binder to give it more of a solid texture. I ended with the beignets which were just ok to me. The salted caramel was really well done. My server was great and it was just a nice small little place in this little town that had such a great feeling while eating there. Right by the water with a nice breeze coming through the window.

Quality food!!! Delicious specials, great selection and a great waitress. I wish I would have gone sooner. Worth the drive. Dietary restrictions: I have severe allergies and they made a point to check all food.

Very friendly staff amazing food! First time there wanted to try something different. We were staying in North Bay overnight, found Lakeside on google glad we went. Usually we go to lot 88 for dinner very expensive and it is chain food style restaurant. Lakeside is less expensive food way better and freshly prepared. Will be going back it is our new favourite restaurant. Thank you Emily for making our first time experience a very pleasurable one. I had the Arctic Char (my photo) and the shrimp toast for an appetizer yum!, my husband had the mussels for an appetizer he said the best hes ever had and the Seafood pasta for an entree.

By chance stumbled on this gem of a restaurant as we were passing through Callander. Awesome! Meal was delicious and our waitress, Alison, took great care of us.

Came by boat from across the lake. Docked at the free public (great setup!) Docks. Walked less than 10 min and enjoyed a fantastic meal for our boat date night. Food was fantastic. Our server (Emily I believe) was fantastic as well. Keep it up all around. Made new customers out of us.

We have visited 1886 on a few different occasions and am always so thrilled by the quality of our meal and the service we receive. The food is fresh and flavourful and the chefs have imagination and passion for the kitchen. You can t make a reservation so sometimes wait times are long, but that s just a testament to their popularity.

Super nice spot with a patio built smartly enough to keep direct sunlight out. Split the fish and chips and the garlic grilled cheese - both fun twists on classic favourites. Fries were great, arugula Caesar could have used some more flavour and texture. Ginger Cosmo was too sweet for my liking but an interesting concept that could likely be tweaked.

One of my favourite restaurants ever. The place has a great local vibe to it, and the food is outstanding. I usually go with the pickerel fritters because theyre the best, and a sage margarita to wash it down. Highly recommended, sure to become one of your favourites as well.

We had lunch there last Sunday. Lovely place with a terrace near the beach . The service was great and they use local produce for their menu. Places like this are hard to find.

This was our second time here. Same poor service as the last time. We were told no reservations show up before 5:30 and there will be problem. We arrive at 5:15 get seated at the bar area even though there was no one in the dining area. We wait half an hour for our meals (which is not the problem). My husband ordered the special and I ordered fish fritters and a salad. They bring my dinner and say - sorry we have to remake my husbands dinner. It was the special, why would there be an issue with it. We wait another half hour for my husbands meal. Only to find out that the waitress gave my husbands meal to someone else. We were offered comp dessert. Why would a restaurant that tries to appear a fine dining restaurant not know that if you messs up one persons meal you just remake both meals and serve them together. What couple goes out to a nice place for dinner and wants to eat at separate times. Use some common sense. If they had offered to give my husbands meal complimentary I might have been a bit happier but realistically both our meals should have been comped, since they ruined our date night.

We stopped here on our trip and just had the most wonderful experience Both of the waiters were very kind, they even put a water bowl out for my dogs after cleaning it first and made sure it was filled the whole time My food was absolutely delicious it was literally the best grilled cheese ever had And the salad was wonderful. I got a mock tail that was called slightly sour that was also tasty. Also got some bacon for my dogs that i almost ate myself. My waitress was awesome and I highly recommended this place for the service, food and prices :) thanks again

Loved this little gem of a restaurant! Great food. It does getting a little loud through the busy dinner hours but its a small space. Still well worth the food:)

This place is GO TO!! Incredible service, the environment is everything and the service was impeccable. The food is soo delicious, im certain that there isnt anything on their menu that would disappoint and this is only my first time dining at this location. Cassie, the waitress was kind, fast, unbelievably efficient and greeted us as soon as we walked in, with a big smile on her face. We will be going back and would love to make it a weekly outing.

I have never experienced drama from a waiter like that... I was there with my son in September, my son who had just gotten his life together wanted to take his Mother out to supper to thank her for all her help and support. The food was absolutely amazing! And I had no clue that my son wasnt going to leave a tip, as soon as I found out, I took money out and hid it under the napkin as I value leaving a tip. AND my intention was to come back and ensure proper tipping! When my son thanked the waiter politely, he apologized for not leaving a tip, before I could tell the waiter to dismiss what my son had said, the waiter responded nastily without hesitation and with attitude The bills dont pay for themselves and both my son and I were in awe at the dramatic rude remark. I wrote an email asking if tip is mandatory despite that I had left over $5, I never got a response, I even waited 6 weeks to call the restaurant, just to find out that there was no male waiter, it was the owner himself. No wonder I never got an email back. Never expected this kind of dramatic reaction!

Great restaurant, visited it twice in a week. Great ambiance inside and a great patio outside. On our first visit had a great server, wonderful personality and attentive. My wife had the Char and I had the seafood pasta, both meals were extremely good as was dessert. On our second visit it was a little different. Server not attentive. My wife had stuffed chicken and I had the surf and turf. Waited quite a while for our food my wifes was a little chewy, mine was good. On the overall a place I would go back to.

Brutal service. Left a bunch of people standing on the street in the hot sun waiting to be seated. After multiple waitresses walking by ignoring us we finally asked if a hostess was going to seat us. They said theyre not seating any more tables because the kitchen was overrun. We wanted to sit and have drinks.Not the first time this place has given awful service. They had 3 waitresses and not one even thought to acknowledge or ask. We would of been fine to sit and have drinks until they caught up. More money for them but instead well never go back.

My fiance and I had an amazing experience tonight at 1886 Lake House Bistro. Our server Alli was wonderful! She was very friendly and attentive. We got our apps within 10 minutes of ordering and our entrees came 5 minutes after the apps! We couldnt believe how quick everything came out, especially since it was a pretty busy evening. All of the food and drinks were geat but we ESPECIALLY enjoyed the Roasted Garlic dip and the Canadian Greyhound drink. Highly highly recommend this place!
