Chi Street food in Cambridge

Ordered food via Ubereats. 3 drivers turned up and left. Called the restaurant, they said they didnt have any food. However, they were continuing to accept orders and take money. I couldnt cancel my order without being charged and they couldnt (wouldnt) do it from their end. We never got our food, were still trying to get a refund and I cant review in Ubereats as its an incomplete order.

Really lovely staff. Gemma and Josh. They were helpful. They served the cake we brought and sang / played happy birthday for us. Brilliant

Delicious fried chicken banh mi and chicken katsu curry! Although I wouldnt class it as an authentic banh mi, it still tasted really good; just wish there was carrots, coriander, pickled radish etc. Other than that, service was good and would order it again!

Use to visit here weekly as a treat after a weeks work, food was amazing absolutely loved it. Visited today to find half the menu wasn t available, they only had 1 can of original coke left.. all food was served in takeaway pots with wooden cutlery not what you expect when sitting at a table . The standard of food has dropped massively. Staff seem untrained and as if they don t have passion for their jobs. Sadly won t be returning and it s such a shame as used to love this place.

My sisters brought me to have lunch and oh my God! The best fries I ve had in UK. I had a portion of Vietnamese Dirty fries and a Korean fried Chicken burger. Simply amazing. Chi Cambridge thank you! This is an experience for me. Shanon is incredible. Everything is amazing.

Really nice food, and incredibly nice people, the person on the register was very friendly and even the person on cooking the food came to say hi. Been here a few times before and the dirty fries and service keep bringing me back!

Very underwhelming and disappointing visit this evening. Firstly, I have been coming to chi since its initial opening when the menu consisted of just banh-mi, bao buns and the big bowls (and the amazing sweet baos with popcorn) and the more they have added (and in some cases removed) the worse the experience has been. Its because I expect so much more I have been prompted to leave this review. The last two orders (delivered) were not too great but I put that down to the fact you cant expect restaurant quality after the transport and it did okay for a quick work lunch. Quick service when we arrived so no complaints there. Ordered two sour cherry drinks... Not in stock Went to order fried savoury bao... None in stock so ordered the Korean chicken bowl which was apparently large but certainly didnt seem that way. The chicken was dry inside and out and tasted reheated and previously frozen and probably equated to a small KFC popcorn chicken in size. The rice was mushy and even if sauce was present on the chicken, it wouldnt have absorbed much of it. The children ordered chicken wings and the Thai green curry fried rice. The chicken wings were decent and my son enjoyed them but the fried rice was barely touched... A smidgen of sauce over the same soggy rice with chicken that was so grey and questionable that my daughter said her rice had fish in. I tried some and didnt again. Thankfully she picked the remaining chicken wings of their meat so at least some sustenance there. Neither the curry on rice nor Korean chicken had the advertised crispy chili and onions on - in fact, the crispy chicken had just a single slice of chilli and were neither sweet nor spicy. Next stop was desert which was one of the reasons we picked Chi tonight over over nearby places but when ordering... No bubble waffles so had to settle for cookie dough which was received well. Thankfully I ordered a side of noodles that despite being a tad wet and greasy, was the best thing I ate all evening. Sadly, a 15% voucher found on the way to the restaurant did little to remedy the pain of handing over £45 to feed myself and two small children. Have very much been an advocate of the place for years but I would find it very hard to recommend the place moving forward and very unlikely to return.

Greeted and seated very promptly by our friendly server G. There were not many people in the restaurant but the atmosphere was really nice still. The manager Josh also checked on us to make sure we enjoying our visit and was very friendly. Food was delicious especially for the price and we served our drinks and food quickly. I felt very sorry for the two people working there, however a 2+ hour wait for food is ridiculous, and I even had to physically ask for them to being the drink they said theyd bring over when i can ordered half an hour earlier.

Walked up, asked if they were open, she said yes then just ignored me and kept putting away items. No advice offered on if there was some alternative way to order or anything. I walked away.

Been here twice and both times our server has been lovely, friendly and attentive. Even offered us suggestions for what to have for a lovely light lunch. Bao buns are amazing, the char siu pork ramen was beautiful, and the gyozas are my favourite.

Went for my girlfriend s birthday middle of December . Really disappointed compared to our first visit . Most items not available. Food didn t taste cooked and no staff even there whilst we ate that we could speak to about our issues . Won t be returning in future . So disappointed as our first visit was brilliant.

Food was good but every table was dirty. I understand they had deliveries aswell as in person cunstomers but they were quite quiet and in the hour we were there the tables were not sprayed or wiped at all and they only had 5 customers in that time. Fries were very nice though

The Chicken Katsu Rice Bowl was really good. The breaded chicken was crispy and the sauce was fantastic, my only criticism is that the portion size felt a little small for the price (£10.50)

I had been meaning to try this little eatery out for a while now, having stumbled across their menu a while ago. I visited for a late afternoon dinner on a weekday, when it was blissfully quiet. The menu offers a broad range of street food. After a little deliberation, I opted for the Chi Fried Chicken burger with dirty fries which all tasted amazing. The burger was packed with lots of flavoursome fillings; Asian slaw, fried onions, chillies, coriander, mozzarella smoky barbeque sauce all inside a succulent Brioche bun. The burger was so bulky I struggled to bite in to it, so ended up dismantling it on the plate. The dirty fries came in a separate bowl, were well seasoned, tasted real good with Siracha mayonnaise dip. Great comfort food, very satisfying. I rate it a solid 8.5 out of 10. I hope to return again, and try other items on the menu. I was impressed by the service; the guy serving me was , friendly, polite and welcoming, so made sure to add a tip on the bill.

Never a bad meal. We are here every other week with the kids. Top tip: get a take away and eat at the vue while watching a film. The kids prefer this to sweets and popcorn.

Ultimately waited 30 minutes to not be seated, nor checked up on when they had 4 staff and 4 tables of customers finishing up their food. Bao bun with Korean Fried chicken combo with Vietnamese dirty fries were very nice.

Tried chi for the first time on Saturday and on arrival we were very impressed. After ordering 1 x Korean fried chicken bao bun, 1 x chi chicken burger and 2 x loaded dirty fries, our server the young lad said the dirty fries were not part of the deal which when I Said I would pay the extra to upgrade them he agreed, we waited about 30 minutes for our food to finally arrive which considering it wasnt busy we assumed it was freshly cooked so wasnt too bothered. My wife opened her bao bun and was faced with the smallest piece of chicken ( thumb sized) and when she asked if that was correct she was told that is how its served, after speaking to another member of staff and explained how unhappy she was that at a cost of £5.50 that isnt good value for money she agreed to get some more chicken put in. Whilst waiting for this to be sorted we tucked into our luke warm dirty fries. When we went to pay the bill we noticed that we had been charged £11.00 per portion of dirty fries and not just the difference the server had agreed we could pay but as we were now running late for the cinema I couldnt be bothered to argue the case. Also Id like ask if staff if the kitchen should be wearing gloves and hair nets whilst serving food? And at no point were we asked if we had any dietary requirements. Nut allergies etc Disappointing visit after really looking forward to eating here.

Terrible service

Food was awful could tell it was all frozen and put together with no care. I wasn t expecting a massive amount and usually eat everything put in-front of me the chicken was dry and flavourless. The squid batter was thick and dry. The Vietnamese loaded fries were actually half decent and the beef tacos were completely inedible and greasy. Hardly ate anything the servers were nice but the food took forever and getting served also took ages despite being fairly quiet.

Terrible. Rice was poorly served and seem to be from a freezer!? Eggrolls were soft and wet. Beer (Chi) was flat and stale.

Twice made a special trip here and never opened on time.

Absolutely disgusting food. I came in with my expectations high as I had eaten at a different Chi before, but was extremely dissappointed when the food served tasted frozen and clearly no care was put into it. It was flavourless. I have never been more grateful that a place has tiny portions. Overall a terrible experience. I was waiting for such a long time to get my food, which was unexpected since the place was completely empty. I would reccommend my friends and family to stay away from this place.

When we visit Cambridge we always go for Chi. One of the best eateries in the area. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The staff are always friendly & helpful.

First visit here on 25 October 2023 for a quick lunch. The two lads serving behind the counter were working really hard and were very pleasant. I was surprised and thought the food was tasty. I went for the bao and dirty fries meal deal which included a drink at £9.50, which I thought was pretty good value. I will return!

So me and my partner were waiting all day to have a lovely Korean fried chicken at this place, when we arrived we were sat down and we were sat for 20 minutes and we weren t even acknowledged. We were neglected! No one even asked for a drink order and we were waiting and we had to leave because we were on a tight schedule. We had to lipread that the wait for food was going to be another 30 minutes and they didn t even tell everyone. They only told the lovely woman that asked at the counter. Both us and the woman that came to ask left. I ve never had such bad customer service in a restaurant before I used to really like this place, but since the staffing changes I will never be returning again.

Decent food, the taste was a bit bland. Service can be a bit slow at times. Prices are fair and they often run offers like 10% off or similar.

Me and my friend went on the 1st of December and we were told there would be a 15/20 min wait and it was actually 45 min wait. It looked like the chefs were cooking on meal at a time instead of doing orders together and everyone was waiting for ages. The wait staff looked so stressed and the kitchen asked them to stop taking orders. The food was tasty apart from the rice! The rice was old and crispy and surprisingly cold after waiting 45 mins. There were a lot of staff members and it was just disconnected. The wait staff were nice. It s an open plan kitchen space so we could see everything and it was Bizzare how long things were taking

Really disappointed. Entire order arrived stale and cold, tasteless and cheap. Ordered a burger which said deep fried Korean chicken.. instead chicken tender strips in bread with some lettuce, a squeeze of sauce, burnt cheese that you cannot taste at all and a scatter of chips for over £10! Unbelievable that they can sell this. Thank god Uber eats have refunded the entire amount

Terrible experience, ordered the Korean fried chicken which was extremely dry and staff refused to accommodate for this bad experience, and could not just add extra sauce when requested. How bizarre. Not sure why this dish was served in a square bowl. Would not recommend at all. Also the chicken Thai fried rice was finished so early on during the day? Will not be coming back here. Better Korean places in Cambridge.

We had a lovely time and that was definitely helped by the kindness of our server called Abbie. Whilst she was small of height she certainly wasn t small of character, she was able to serve us despite it being so busy. The whole staff really worked well as a team and the food came out quickly and looked amazing. The food tasted even better. Vegetarian options: My friend who s vegan was able to have plenty of choice and really enjoyed her food Dietary restrictions: My partner who s lactose intolerant was able to eat nearly anything on the menu and was very happy with their food. It would be nice if there was more vegan friendly choices of dessert but it was amazing nonetheless Kid-friendliness: My child was happy and the staff provided drawing material to keep him entertained
