We’re the city’s independent local bistro. We’re passionate about quality British and European food, cooked to order with traditional recipes – and best enjoyed with an exceptional wine.
Superb food! Excellent service but not over the top. Best Nero d'Avola i ever had. And don't get me started on that Beef Wellington...
Excellent food and service. Had the massive steak. It was massive! Puddings were first rate as well.
Had a lovely meal at Oak Bistro. The service is excellent - very friendly, and accommodating to our group’s dietary needs. I had the seafood risotto which was very nice. They had a great selection of desserts as well. As the restaurant is made up of a number of small spaces, it can get a little noisy when busy, so that’s just something to keep in mind if you prefer a quieter atmosphere.
Went twice in the last few weeks for my own and then husband's birthdays. Both days everything was superb - lovely food, excellent selection of wines, great service and a really nice friendly atmosphere. We were never rushed during our meals and both times were very enjoyable experiences. Their lunchtime 3 course lunches are great value. So glad we have found this place. We will be back!
One of the best restaurants I've had in Cambridge so far. Ordered the Pan fried Scallop, Truffle Risotto, Confit Duck and Beef Wellington, every single dish is perfectly cooked. The staff were nice and considerate.
One should not miss the beef wellington, it could easily be one of the best you have. The desert and wine recommendation are carefully matched.
Lovely menu, food and staff! Beef Wellington cooked to perfection! Nice wines too. Highly recommended!
Been a regular at this place for a few years now. Lately foods and service have improved a lot and never disappoints me. Appetisers such as scallops and pork belly are always top tier and always cooked to perfection. Mains don’t change very often but season fish dish are pretty good and personally my favourite is confit duck. Can’t think of any restaurant that does Beef wellington up to this level. Lovely desserts as well and great service too, super friendly and professional. Fantastic wine list, lots of good wines for such a reasonable price. Atmosphere is generally okay but sometimes got to care of lights as it could get too dark after evening. One of my go to restaurant in Cambridge especially for any special occasion or dinner date spot. Definitely worth the money
What a treat. Fantastic from start to finish. Food & service top notch
Can definitely recommend it. The scallops were really particularly tasty. Such nice people who served us.
Excellent atmosphere in a comfortable dining room. The service is friendly and professional. The courses we chose were good and generous portions . Thank you very much Food
Excellent service, great food, 10/10
Nice bistro, easy to like. Classic French dishes, and reasonable prices
Went along with clients this afternoon. The food was excellent and we were very well looked after by the team. Bravo and thank you
Ceiling needs repairs
Very enjoyable dinner, Wellington was superb!
We had a good dinner last Saturday at the Oak Bistro. We went on the off chance it looked rather busy but inside it was like a labyrinth, they found us a quiet table a d the food was perfect. We had a fish risotto as a starter and for the main course I had trout with samphire and bubble and squeak. It was very tasty. I enjoyed it. The service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the experience. It was good value for money. I would recommend it.
My happy place. Was a regular in the years my husband and I lived in Cambridge and in a recent visit was delighted to find that it had hardly changed. Why mess with what is perfect?
Just perfect!
Could not fault this place. A haunt for celebrities and for good measure! Food was outstanding and the service was among the best I ve ever received; incredibly attentive. Highly recommend.
I never know how to start these, anyway, long story short, wife booked a really nice hotel, and I had to book the meal, the pressure was enormous as you can imagine. Anyway, had a look around and saw the Michelin star place, looked great, just a bit not for us, what I wanted was great food in a more relaxed atmosphere and thats EXACTLY what we got, from the moment we walked in we were greeted by a great chap with long hair and he made us feel welcome INSTANTLY, its the little things, knew my name when I walked in (had a reservation so not rocket science but a great touch) just those things that make such a difference. The food: Yea was legit, really good, if I HAD to be picky I would say my chips could have been a bit more homemade but also, I am the guy that ordered steak and chips when clearly more foodie based option, anyway, that makes the chips sound bad, they werent there were great. Whole thing was great. Basically, if you are taking your wife or husband away, and want to get those points in for picking a decent place, pick this place, really nice, will go again.
Delicious rib eye steak. Good service. Real English restaurant.
Had an absolutely fantastic meal here. Not cheap but worth every penny. Both service and food impeccable. The best service I ve experienced in Cambridge. Really felt the waiter cared and was happy to give recommendations and ever so friendly and polite. Can t wait to return.
Very nice food,excellent service
Fabulous
The beef wellington is outstanding Also really good wine list with some brilliant wines to pick from including dessert wines Food
Lovely, friendly restaurant with great, traditional Anglo/French food and a superb wine list.
Booked a table for 4 for my father s 62nd. Couldn t have asked for better service throughout the meal, asked for an off menu drink and the waiter kindly provided. We had the scallops and pork belly for starters, beef wellington and ribeye steaks for main and then sticky toffee, passion fruit crème brûlée and the poached pear for desert. All of the food was fantastic and cannot wait to return!
Fabulous food and delightful attentive staff. Will definitely go back again, so many other things on the menu I want to try. Parking: 3 minutes walk from Queen Anne carpark which is free after 6pm
Lovely lunchtime menu. Cooked perfectly. The service was excellent. Would recommend & return.
Lovely meals
Fantastic food ...delicious...staff were friendly.. welcoming and attentive...definitely will come again ..loved it
Disappointing that they cook a Beef Wellington until it is tough and tasteless. Wont be returning.
Very relaxed atmosphere, exceptional service and the food was amazing.
What a delightful restaurant. Very welcoming staff. All dishes we chose were excellent and very well presented. If I am ever in Cambrige again, this would be my 1st choice. Could not fault a thing. This restaurant really knows what customer service and good food are all about. Couldnt recommend highly enough.
They made a special day even more special with their excellent service, amazing food, and fantastic wine.
Such a warm welcome and the food is amazing. Ive never known beef as tender and melt in your mouth as the beef wellington! It was worth every penny.
A really great place to eat, the food and wine are excellent and the service is unmatched.
Had a really incredible meal at The Oak Bistro. Service and food was fantastic. Beautiful and small inside seating area, and the atmosphere was perfect. Would highly recommend them to anyone considering a meal in Cambridge.
Wonderful restaurant - top notch! Great food and a very interesting wine list with small markups (inspired by the Andrew Edmunds Soho model, we were told). The owner, Phillip, was a brilliant host and made our small business dinner a great social occasion too.
We had a perfect lunch. Everything was really excellent.
Great food and service.
Stayed in Cambridge for 3 nights and this was definitely the best dining experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the seating comfortable. Food
Cosy atmosphere, Perfect service, Amazing food (Mushroom Risotto, wellington, red wine Plan de Dieu)
We ve come here repeatedly usually for special occasions and it is always a great experience! Food is very delicious (especially the duck) and staff is incredibly friendly. My favourite restaurant in Cambridge, especially with visitors.
Kid-friendliness: Very friendly Wheelchair accessibility: Fully accessible, ask for the rump. Food : 5/5 |
Top notch bistro in Cambridge, just a few minutes walk from the centre. Excellent food, well-presented and perfectly cooked. This is one of the few places weve been to where choosing from the menu was quite a dilemma! If we were local, wed be back to try different dishes. Theres also an excellent wine list which has many and varied wines that are reasonably-priced. I also like that they had a decent dessert wine selection with recommended pairings for each of their desserts. All-in-all, excellent food, first-class service from James, and great value considering the quality. Highly recommended.
friendly service, peaceful atmosphere, delicious food. we even ordered more desert than usually do bc wanted to try, and we were not disappointed. Sadly, my other photos are blurry, but I can share the desserts Ice cream and cheesecake
Excellent food and service
Had a fantastic lunch yesterday with my other half for her birthday. The staff were friendly, attentive, polite and accommodating. The food was amazing. The red wine jus that comes with the beef wellington is stunning and the crème brûlée was delicious. This was our second visit and we ll definitely be back at some point.
Loved this place, fabulous food and a great wine list. An authentic Bistro and we will definitely be back, its a real gem.
Very cosy and romantic atmosphere! The food was delicious and the service impeccable. Will go back for sure
Very nice lunch. Friendly owner and staff. Food very fresh..very enjoyable Vegetarian options: Enough options to enjoy Food : 4/5 |
Went with colleagues, werent particularly hungry prob due to jet lag, so we ordered soem starters and a side salad to share, then some desserts. Most memorable dish was the potato fish cake, prawn and scallops. Risotto was norm and the walnut goat cheese beetroot salad a bit underwhelming. I had the apple crumble with hot custard, very traditional. It was packed on a Monday. Service was not bad.
The back garden is beautiful!
The staff were really welcoming. Considering it was fully booked, we didnt feel rushed or overlooked. The food went beyond our expectations. The lamb shank was one of the best Ive tasted, and the desert was pretty good too. Looking forward to visiting again.
Service is perfect and they are very pleasant. Beef wellington was delicious. We tried many dishes at oak bistro and all of them perfect
Delicious food with great service and delightful atmosphere. Staff were lovely and knowledgeable
It pains me to write this review a bit, but here we go. Recently came here on date night with my wife. We had read about Oak Bistro numerous times so had been excited to try it for at least the last year. We re both vegetarian, so this review can only speak to their two primary veg dishes listed as a main on their menu. We had the gnocci and eggplant parmigiana. To be totally honest, both were pretty subpar and we re American, not from Italy or anything. The eggplant was rubbery and quite undercooked, with an overall taste about 3 stars. Similarly, the gnocci was really mediocre and bland, and there was zero truffle that could be tasted in the dish, despite listing that it was made with black truffle. Perhaps the chef used truffle powder rather than real truffles, but you could definitely no truffle and the gnocci was definitely store bought, not home-made (e.g., relatively firm, not soft, and barely seasoned). On the other hand, the dessert was excellent we had the sticky toffee pudding and I would say it was among the best we ve had in Cambridge. The wine was also quite good, although the beer menu was severely lacking. Note to owner why offer 60+ wines and only 3 really bad beers (e.g., Corona, Peroni) the drinks menu could definitely be improved by offering customers a few decent craft beers. Service was good and the restaurant ambiance was nice, although definitely not fancy given the fairly high prices, especially for the meat dishes. All and all, we felt the food was about 3-3.5 stars (perhaps the meat is better?), but the dessert was excellent. I dont think we would come again.
Always delicious. The walled garden in summer is a particularly lovely atmosphere.
Fantastic place, food was just how the pictures on website show and flavours were great, from moment on entering and being shown to our table by Phillip everything was perfect. Lovely place, we will sure visit again/ frequently
Charming place near the centre of Cambridge. Food very good indeed - much better than your normal bistro - and the staff and owner were extremely welcoming. Beautifully relaxed and enjoyable evening.
Delicious food, perfectly presented. Great service!
The food was just ok and all a bit bulky.
This restaurant has a lovely ambiance and serves French-style food to a high level of quality. I had a very good steak and chips, and my friend had halloumi which I have ordered in the past and was excellent. Very good service. Dietary restrictions: OK level of accommodation for celiac disease (gluten-free).
Great lunch we had. Excellent service and superb food taste. Best so far since I came to UK. Very much appreciate the manager and good luck in your place. Very much recommended. Food
Mediocre food and good service. The waiter put the service charge of only 10% by himself, so that was ok with us as well.
Incredible food and service. Rob was our server and he was so attentive and James was so nice and kind. I ve never experienced service as good as this. On top of that the food was amazing. We had the pork belly, potato cake, beef wellington and aubergine parmigiana. All of which was incredibly delicious.
I absolutely love the Oak Bistro. Incredible food, incredible service and all around a wonderful experience. They were also very accommodating when one of our party passed out and we had to call an ambulance! Thanks so much and we will definitely be back (and hopefully have a less eventful dinner next time)
This cozy Bistro has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wide drinks list and wonderful desserts. I recommend to everyone! The waiters were honestly amazing and verry attentive, its been a long time that i have experienced such great service!
We (My sister and I) met our friends the father and daughter who were hosting this Dining Club Meal at The Oak Bistro Restaurant, and they arrived first, followed by ourselves, when we were seated we ordered drinks, still and sparkling mineral water for ourselves and the daughter, and a glass of white wine for the father, followed by our meal order, the father and daughter had a starter each, Cullen Skink Soup for him, and King Prawns for her, we did not not have a starter, as guests, and we moved on to Mains, the Father had Beef Wellington with mashed potato spinach and a red wine jus, the daughter had Chargrilled Rib-Eye Steak with truffle butter, French Fries and a mixed leaf salad, and both my sister and I had Pan Roasted Fillets of Halibut with potato cake, parsnip puree, spinach and sugar snap peas, for dessert, the father had a cheese board selection, the daughter had sticky toffee pudding with two scoops of vanilla ice-cream, my sister had a vanilla Panna Cotta with Cognac flambeed prunes and I had an Apple and Blackberry Crumble with Custard. When we all arrived at the restaurant at 17.30pm the restaurant was almost empty, but by the time we all were leaving the restaurant, it was almost overflowing with customers, which was impressive for a Thursday evening, and the atmosphere among the diners was very lively, among ourselves, we enjoyed the evening very much and I recommend this restaurant, if you are looking for traditional fare with a twist. Vegetarian options: There was a separate vegetarian menu that the restaurant offered for those people that wanted to eat it.
We came here for my partner s 30th birthday meal and had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and genuine, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The staff surprised us with a candle and a rendition of happy birthday . We ll definitely be returning!
Only a word: superb. Its a lille pricey but it worth. Kind staff.
Some of the best food I ve ever eaten! Scallops and beef wellington were absolutely outstanding, and we were made to feel very welcome by our server (the owner!) who showed us around the restaurant. Highly recommend
Delightful hosts and perfect food.
Delicious food, relaxed environment, excellent staff. Went for a very relaxed and delicious birthday meal and have great memories from the evening.
This is a little gem. The food was superb and the wine offering was great. Each course was presented beautifully and all tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend this bistro if you are looking for something a bit special.
Visiting Cambridge and sought reviews of best dining to book in advance. High quality, very nice menu. Several great unique items add to the suspense. Owner s wine choices were particularly great, not just good. If we lived closer a top date night destination . Well done !
Friendly service, okay food
Food is good service is very slow, they forget you are there
Delightful place. Great food, lovely helpful staff. They went out of their way to help us.
Simply one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. It never fails to serve excellent food and wine. We have been going for years and years and not once had a bad experience. We would highly recommend this Resturant for any occasion as all the staff go out of their way to accommodate all your requirements from the moment you pick up the phone to book a table, all the way through to the finish of the dining experience. Well done to all at Oak Bistro
We had our anniversary dinner here. It was excellent. Terry Ward. Vegetarian options: It was all good. Food : 5/5 |
Amazing! Stunning food. Everything just done really well; a lovely experience.
Saved the day! We have dined here several times and always had a superb experience. Last night we tried a new restaurant in Cambridge which turned out to be disastrous! On the off chance we dropped into The Oak to see if they could save the day. Despite being really busy they provided a table for us, initially in their cosy rear garden (super efficient heaters and snuggly blankets) then they moved us indoors. The dessert and cheese board saved our evening. Next time we wont risk it and just book here from the start! If you are looking for a quality meal with super service in Cambridge you cant go wrong with The Oak, and you certainly can in other places!
Fantastic! The food was delicious, the wine recommendations were spot on and the service was fantastic. I ve paid far more for far worse meals than this. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
Vegetarian options: Holy moly this was the best food experience I have had in a long time
Great place and worth a visit. A fine dining experience. We paid a lot because of champagne but set lunch is good value.
The food was excellent and the service very good. We were in the heated conservatory which was, if anything, too hot. Our only issue was a very loud, rowdy party of 6 on the next table. It was so bad we asked to be moved but the main restaurant was full. Our waitress did offer to move us later but by then we were between courses and it seemed too much fuss.
Great food and service and a lively atmosphere
Excellent restaurant. Very kind and helpful staff. Excellent food. Highly recommended in Cambridge
An understated cosy restaurant with a punchy menu. The beef wellington is certainly not be missed!
Wonderful food and wine and great atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed
Excellent food and service, especially from Jorge our Portuguese server who made us feel very welcome.
Delicious food, excellent service and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend
Great food , great service and just great place to eat!!!
I am actually leaving this review as I am finishing my pudding. This one of the best restaurants I have eaten in superb food, unpretentious, well presented, relaxed - an absolute delight. If you are in Cambridge make sure you come! An absolute gem. Host Phil is also super lovely and makes everyone feel welcome.
A cozy small local bistro, staff is friendly and nice. We come here during lunch time. Try their 3 course lunch set menu. Food presentation and taste is good. We ordered the sardine pate and shrimp avocado salad for starter and both choose the fish cake as main. Very generous portion. The sorbet trio and pana cotta are very good too! Their a la carte menu had much more to choose from, also offered during lunch.
Excellent service, a cosy atmosphere, and lovely food. I hope we get to come here again.
Top draw establishment
What a lovely meal I just had at the Oak Bistro. Beef Wellington was delicious, tender beef and plenty of ju. Staff were excellent polite and offered good service. Window seat was good as meant it was not too dark at the table. Price was quite high though, but wont stop me returning. Vegetarian options: Very tasty gnocchi
Very courteous service, great atmosphere albeit a bit loud when tables are filled and excellent food presentation! We were quite happy about all the dishes but found the cod a tad salty and the salmon a little lacking in flavour. Risotto was decent, not the type where the rice is still hard in the centre. The highlight for me was probably the poached pear! Delicious with the mascarpone :) the jam in strawberries cheesecake also very tasty! Would visit again and try other dishes!
Excellent service, delicious food, and a pleasant atmosphere. Five stars, all round!
We had the scallops and steak. Beautiful food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommended.
Was absolutely amazing! A hidden jem. Faultless. Had the duck salad to begin with followed by a rib eye then finished with a trio of sorbets. The lime sorbet was not for sharing as it was beautiful. Will be going back very soon. Food
Had a family dinner here recently and the experience was very pleasant, so was the service. I had the king prawns starter and the mushroom risotto for my main and both were very tasty. Cant say the same for the chocolate fondant dessert, which unfortunately was overcooked and not very good. However, I would definitely go back for another dining experience at the Oak Bistro.
Great service!! Food was good too. Dietary restrictions: Everyone is great about asking for diet and allergy restrictions Food : 5/5 |
I dont write many reviews, but after our lovely evening here I thought The Oak Bistro deserved a shout out. We had dinner-for-two here on a Saturday night and the food was great, but particularly the service was outstanding. The whole atmosphere is nice and relaxed and doesnt feel like youre being rushed out of your table as is all-too-common (and somewhat understandable) on a busy Saturday night. The staff were all extremely polite and made our evening. The Oak Bistro have it spot-on. All-in-all a great experience and will recommend to anyone who will listen!
Had a lovely dinner here and the entrees, desserts and wine selection were excellent. I will be back next time I m in town. The scallops and chocolate fondant cake are the best!
Lovely dinner at the Oak Bistro. Prawns were some of the freshest Ive had in the UK. Duck was surprisingly crisp and tender, but I think could have done with more jus. The fish was flaky and well cooked as well. Service was wonderful.
The Oak Bistro is the best restaurant in Cambridge. The cheesecake I just ate was possibly the best pudding I have ever eaten - the balance of flavours, the perfect and satisfying textures and sensuous mouth feel were all simply perfect. We had three starters (prawns, scallops and pork belly) all were fabulous- we spent a good 5 minutes trying to decide which was the best. The mains were excellent (the Cod and the gnocchi), great flavours, everything perfectly cooked. The wine at only £30 was sensational (see the picture), if I had paid £100 for that bottle I would have been happy. I have eaten everywhere in Cambridge and there are tons of good places but as of June 2023 this is the best on just about every measure including value for money. Sorry that some of the pictures are of food that we had started, the presentation is good too just spoiled by us diving in. Vegetarian options: They have 3 veg options for both starter and mains. The gnocchi was superb.
Comfortable atmosphere, sensible amounts of well prepared and carefully chosen dishes. Lunch set menu is good value.
I dont normally eat lunch so I just had a starter. Wish I was hungrier as the choice of food was varied and tempting - from a set 2 or 3 course menu to a la carte. The portions were generous and well laid out on the plate. Also a good selection for vegans and vegetarians. The seating was very comfortable and although there were a lot of tables, it didnt feel claustrophobic. The service was excellent, and the waiter very patient with our individual dietary needs - we were a party of 7. Also we didnt need to ask for more water, as our waiter monitored our needs. Vegetarian options: Good and interesting selection. Dietary restrictions: Some of our party had dietary requirements and they were dealt with satisfactorily. Parking: We parked at Queen Anne car park, about a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of spaces Wheelchair accessibility: I am physically disabled and had no problem negotiating my way through the restaurant with my rollator., and the toilets were easily accessible, but would have struggled if in a wheelchair as no designated disabled toilet.
Came on Friday night and couldn t fault a thing! Wonderful food, atmosphere and service.
Very pleasant. Really good menu, and great value for money. Good, fairly priced winelist. Well done
Had a lovely dinner here, great service. Staffs took care of us very well. Beef wellington and steak were awesome. We had a wonderful night. Thank you.
Everything was good but a few marks off excellent. The beef wellington was like a giant steak wrapped in pastry, delicious but more like an ill proportioned steak pie. Unfortunately we had a table in the covered outside area, which despite heaters, was too cold for a January evening which was too much to look beyond and lets down the tasty food and friendly service. Ask to sit inside and you ll have a lovely meal.
Best place in Cambridge! After two days of expensive and bland food we found this gem. Amazing food. But also amazing service. Should be a 5 star no questions asked- please come- you will be very happy.
Wonderful place! The food was excellent, and the staff were super polite and very helpful. Highly recommend!
Every dish was exquisitely presented and the food tasted amazing. Philip was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. We all felt that the prices represented great value for money.
We had the most amazing meal at The Oak Bistro! The service was great, all the staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked! We would highly recommend the scallops, beef wellington, parmigiana and the raspberry crème brûlée but every dish we had was delicious. Thank you for a perfect evening!
Amazing dinner at The Oak Bistro! We did not have a reservation, but they kindly accommodated us at the last minute. The food was delicious; I really recommend the wellington if you like red meat. IT was super tender and tasty! I finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which was really good too! The staff was really kind, and extra attentive to my friend who was pregnant. Dont hesitate!
Big fan. Great value for money and always a pleasure to visit
Intimate atmosphere and very friendly/experienced staff. The garden dining in the back is great, but we loved this place year-round. Very knowledgeable about wine/pairings; more than happy to customize a meal to suit your dietary requirements. Great place for a date night.
Lovely restaurant, very high quality food, fantastic service. Very reasonable prices with a £25 set menu for 3 courses. I went for the duck salad, mushroom risotto, and raspberry creme brulee. All wonderful. Thank you very much!
Our favourite restaurant in Cambridge for many years now. The best quality food and a wonderful service!
4.3 Overall, a really good meal at Oak Bistro. We sat in the back garden which provided a different perspective than always sitting inside. They have done it up nicely, in a tight space. A little bit of light jazz and lighting would have made it a 5. On the food....very good. I had the steak frites with salad. We also had the duck confit and the swordfish filet. My steak was cooked perfectly and the fries were good. Needed a bit more salt. The swordfish looked great and the confit was very nice. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding and the raspberry creme brulee were the stars. We also had the poached pear with marscapone. It was good, not great. Service was attentive and helpful. They do a good job. Id definitely recommend Oak Bistro for anyone traveling to Cambridge.
Definitely the nicest meal Ive had this year and probably multiple years
Perfect bistro experience. Helpful service , Balanced menu ,.Reasonable wine list and decent prices. 3 courses, and wine approx £50 .
Delicious food, good wine and friendly service. Well worth a visit. Food
Had the steak and it was cooked to perfection.
This has to be the best restaurant in Cambridge Simple ingredients cooked spectacularly well Service is faultless and wine list sublime Oak Bistro is one of very few restaurants that have delivered every time for many years Chris Lane
Will definitely come back here again. Great food, great service
What a beautiful experience it was! Starting from a booking call (as I was booking just a few hours in advance) and throughout our time there! Every one was friendly, attentive and helpful. Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. The weather was warm so we got a table outside (and it was an additional bonus). Food was delicious and beautifully presented. I strongly recommend this place to anyone! Thank you, Team! We shall be back
I was lucky to dine here twice in one day. I had the mushroom risotto as a starter but nothing else as returning in the evening. It was delicious. The evening party had beef Wellington, halibut and pork belly. All were enjoyed. The oak has a large wine list with plenty of variety. Service was very friendly so I d love to return next time I m in Cambridge.
We had a lovely evening at the Oak Bistro - great service!
Best place Ive been to for ages in Cambridge. Nice menu, feels like fine dining but not bad prices. Lovely courtyard garden under cover. Wine reasonable and quality. Definitely recommend and will come again.
Very good restaurant I recommend! The terrace is sublime
My wife and I had dinner in a raining and cold evening. We still liked to sit in the lovely yard. Philip turned on the heater for us. Thanks very much for his kindness! Philip is a wine master. The courses are really wonderful!
Been wanting to come to this place for a long time as heard good things. Sent an email late last night wanting to book last minute and had a call from Phill this afternoon very quick response. Very pleasant gentleman. Classical type of cooking, done very well. I didnt have the beef Wellington but our 2 guests did and it was hard to not dive into their plates. The shine and glaze on the sauce was astonishing told me everything I needed to know. Ribeye was also fantastic not a mouthful left on any plate. Dont usually bother with deserts as often underwhelming but equally impressive. Everything home made and cooked fresh to order needs a lot of praise.
Utterly delicious, well cooked quality food in a cosy ambient setting.
Excellent food and service.
Been twice, and the quality of the beef has not been to my liking, too much fat and gristle. Had beef Wellington and rare ribeye.
This is a nice place, with the atmosphere very similar to a movie restaurant experience. I am a bit biased here and say its not within the top 3 that Ive been to in Cambridge but its certainly quite good!
My friend and I had a lovely evening. The service was very attentive, and the ambience was cosy and friendly on a wet night. The potato cake starter was average but the mushroom risotto was very tasty.
Always a pleasure to have dinner at the Oak Bistro: nice atmosphere, good service and excellent food and wine, one of our favourite places in Cambridge.
Amazing food and the service was amazing
Simply the best restaurant in Cambridge, bar none. Everything is 5 star from the warm welcome, friendly and efficient service and exceptional quality food. A superb experience from start to finish and I cant recommend The Oak highly enough.
We were a wedding party of twelve plus a 2 year old. The food was wonderful! The service from Philip and a young lady (we didnt get her name) was excellent Would definitely visit again. Food : 5/5
Awesome... I think that covers this place
Great service, good atmosphere and food excellent
The staff and food were both great, with the matradee addressing me by name throughout the meal.
We had a lovely meal at Oak bistro. Food and wine were both great. What stood out particularly was the excellent service from Robert our waiter. Refreshing these days to see such a professional waiter who is a class act. We will definitely be coming back to Cambridge just for another meal here!
Delicious food and fantastic service.
This is by far the best dining experience in Cambridge. Aside from the quality of food, professional and yet friendly attitude of the staff puts Oak Bistro to my number one restaurant around.
Everything here is PERFECT. Food, Service and Atmosphere... I want to give you 10 stars. I am happy to add one more to my list of Best Cambridge restaurants. I higly recommend scallops and beef wellington.
Excellent food, great service, good value for this level. Very enjoyable evening I would recommend you go.
Really beautiful garden area with warm reception and service. Starters and main were amazing, in particular the prawns!
We sat at the best table in the house! The whole crew was great and the food was really wonderful!
We had lunch with friends and the Oak Bistro was superb. Welcoming and friendly staff and no max time limit on our table so we could relax and enjoy ourselves. Menu was really good, not so many choices that it takes an age to decide but enough variety to suit everyone. The food was excellent. I have a life threatening food allergy and they took care to ensure I was safe.
A real gem in the city center we all had a superb lunch. A must if in cambridge and looking for a quality meal.
We had a lovely lunch with beef Wellington and sea bass. Both dishes were well-prepared and tasty. The service was friendly and attentive, enhancing our dining experience. The Oak Bistro claret paired nicely with the beef Wellington, complementing the meal.
From the food to the service was just first class. I would definitely go back again!! Parking: The restaurant is very near to a car park.
Food was largely ok, but under seasoned. The pork belly was slightly over cooked but the scallops were cooked well. Service was good, although £60 accidently added to the bill which was resolved swiftly. Ambience a bit lacking and decor a bit dated. Overall ok.
had an amazing meal here. thanks to all, great food and great team.
One is the best beef Wellington we have ever had. Fantastic customer service, attention to detail and fairly priced. A hidden gem
A well presented meal, in a cozy setting with unobtrusive service.
I added scallops to the lunch set menu and it was good value for money. The service was good too. I want to try the signature menu next time!
Overall, not recommended. Our main courses of rib eye and halibut were o/k, but nothing more. However, the crab starter had more mayonnaise than crab and the prawns were, frankly, a greasy mess. The service was friendly but the restaurant needs more care and attention with, for example, many spider webs and a feeling of a damp problem.
Awesome place with tasty food and fantastic ambience.
We had a superb meal with excellent service and ambience. Not cheap but worth every penny
Hadnt been here for a long time, but went last week and the food and atmosphere were really nice. Will have to start going more regularly.
Nice touches but a little loud and the food was nicely presented but under seasoned and over priced. Excellent service and welcome.
Really great food and super friendly staff. Food was served fairly quickly, and was exceptionally good.
Excellent food, delicious wine, great service. Somewhat tucked away but a lovely restaurant. The cheese board was especially good.
Good food. Especially the fish and chips. Great service.
Had an amazing dinner here, especially the goat cheese beetroot salad exceeded expectations and was very very delicious!
Fantastic experience
My family were hesitant at first to be in such a fancy place, but the service was so great and friendly - the staff made us feel so very welcome! As Northerners we appreciate a good chit-chat with a stranger! We ate the lamb cutlets from the a la carte menu and it was DELICIOUS. The presentation of each dish really elevates it too. Lovely cosy vibes and great staff :)
One of Cambridges hidden gems. Do not be put off by its apparent small size - it has hidden depths. Food is excellent: you will not eat better in Cambridge.
Had an amazing Christmas lunch with work colleagues. We were a large party in a full restaurant but the service was excellent, and the owner visible and hospitable. Unlike Christmas lunch servings experienced elsewhere, we had the table for the whole afternoon (over 4 hours) so we could relax and enjoy.
One the best restaurants left in Cambridge - consistently good - with classic dishes cooked very well, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere! Great desserts, too and a decent wine list !
Owner led restaurant with good British style food
