The temporary closure will remain in effect until Friday 5th July inclusive. We will reopen on Saturday 6th July at 11.30am.
Authentic dim sum. Better than the ones in London Chinatown, must try.
We had a truly 10/10 meal here on Sunday afternoon. The beef in black bean sauce with Ho fun you have to ask for off the menu but it is one of the best I have ever had. The dim sum was all delicious- har gau, cheung fun, chive dumplings and not pictured beef balls and steamed sticky rice with chicken and Chinese sausage. The three of us left stuffed and with tea was around £23pp. Super value for the quality. Food came quickly which was impressive given how busy it was for Sunday lunch.
It's always a pleasure eating here. I'm never disappointed, nor is my partner food stardard has always been maintained
Went for lunch today, food was so delicious and the service was second to none. Our go to Chinese, drive 50 mins to get here, worth travelling for !!
This restaurant has quickly become the go-to spot for my friends and me to satisfy our dim sum cravings. The variety and quality of dim sum served here are exceptional. The ambiance of the restaurant adds to its charm, providing a comfortable and authentic setting. Highly recommended for any dim sum enthusiast! I was too busy eating, forgot to take more pictures, which is a good sign!
First had Charlie Chan more than 20 years ago when there weren't so as many colourful options in Cambridge. The food is cantonese / S. China style. Recently came here for dim sum - it was tasty and there was a good selection to choose from. Would come again for canto food.
One of the top Chinese restaurants in Cambridge. Dim Sum is a MUST TRY. Each kind of dumplings have it's own flavour that makes you try everything without regrets. Definitely back again!
Fantastic dim sum… food are all done on the spot and piping hot… siu mai is a 12/10, a definite must-try! Staff is very friendly too, the ambience is very comfortable and peaceful. We enjoyed our meal entirely and will be sure to return again soon!
One of the absolute worst places in Cambridge - smells like feet and the food upset my stomach for a week. There are a dozen better restaurants right near there - any of them are much much better !
really disappointing service
Decent dim sum place with ok service
We have been before, but we re quite disappointed this time we went. They Overcharged us and expected a 10% tip, whilst providing average food and small portion sizes.
We have come here a couple times as the food is good but I won t be coming again. The service was terrible, after waiting a very long time without being asked for drinks or another menu, we finally got our order taken. Then, the waiter was half way through taking our order and then left saying she d get someone else, and they took another 10 minutes to come and re take our order for no reason.. As said, the food is good but we felt very unwanted.
Good food. Tables and chairs are close together so the space is not airy. You should book a table in advance.
Best in Cambridge. Nothing more needed
Rude staff, with the exception of one youngish waitress who made an effort to communicate. We were really looking forward to having dim sum, but were served heated up items from a Chinese supermarket. Only one dish appeared to have been prepared by a chef. Food of this quality (at these prices) would not be acceptable in China, HK or Taiwan. It s really, really difficult finding decent Chinese food in the UK. You d expect Cambridge to have decent Chinese food, given the numbers of Chinese living there. This place just reflects the same old cynical attitude you encounter in ChinaTown in London. They don t care if you don t come back Is it too much to expect, for £30, food that s actually been prepared by a chef ?
Authentic Cantonese food. Good service. Food
The taste was terrible, the staff was poor. when the white customers left they stopped the music. They even laughed at me for putting chili oil on the noodles Although it is a Chinese restaurant, it does not respect the Chinese people
Loved this place x 3! The dim sum here is the BEST - better than dim sum in San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston. Outstanding and delicious food - it made me do the happy Snoopy dance eating their char siu pork bun, prawn dumplings with chives, prawn dumplings with spinach, pork dumpling in chili sauce, a bowl of won ton soup, and sesame balls with black sesame paste filling. Do not miss this place if youre in town and wondering where to eat.
The food was not as delicious as expected. Advantages: The portions are sufficient, the atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and the service is quite friendly.
Staff very rude and cold . Service poor. Food
This restaurant is really bad, the food is not delicious at all, not authentic at all, the meat is so tough that you cant bite it, and the wood is so hot. The service was so bad, and the employees were so impatient that Zhong Chengri rolled his eyes. I really don t recommend it! I came here with my mainland friends, and the experience was so bad that I was really embarrassed. The food is not good and the service is bad. I cant explain it. I really won t come here a second time!
Horrible service and they are not very friendly all they care about is the money. Have to double check everything because they always forget something. The food is mediocre.
Very poor service, our family never come back here again. The attitude of the waistress is so bad, we didnt get the discount for paying cash which we normally get that before. Packing for food take away is costing money which is very abnormal conpare to other restaurants . I have been regular customer but not from now any more.
The attitude of the staff was terrible. The short-haired woman did not want to serve us. She threw the boxes at the customer s face when I requested boxes to take home leftovers. They even charged for those boxes and added a service fee despite their extremely poor attitude towards the customers. They should have asked if we needed help instead of behaving like that. Normally, if you pay cash, they give a 10% discount, but after we complained, they did not give us the discount. We will never return to this place
Rubbish food and rubbish service
My go to Chinese restaurant in Cambridge. Service is super quick, food is incredibly tasty and service is really friendly. Have been there a few times and will definitely go again. The dim sum they have are incredible!
Very large portions of food! It is quite expensive for the meat to noodles ratio. I got the Dry fried beef ho fun - which was good however the taste was a little bland. The service was good and they were willing to help!
If I could give a negative review I would. This restaurant had the worst customer service, and the dishes for the prices were appetizer size, which came with no rice. They also charge a 7 pound service charge and there was no service. Do not eat here unless you are desperate.
Most of the dishes we ordered were below average, except for the fried rice and turnip paste cake which were alright - and still a bit expensive. We were served by several waiters and waitresses, the younger waitress had a better service attitude and was friendly and approachable. would not go again.
My family has been regularly eating here in the last 4 years. It used to be a place to spend some pleasant time with the family. But since the son of Charlie Chan left, they now have a new chef which makes the food tastes bad, and almost all the service staff changed as well. The new service team is horrible, rude and inpatient. I will not come here again. Very sad. It used to be such a great restaurant.
The taste is as delicious as old hong kong. the price is reasonble. Food
Dim Sum place to be at, book in advance or be disappointed. Other kitchen stuff is still good but the Dim Sum definitely stand out more.
Can t understand why rating is below 4 when food quality and taste are so authentic, service is good and they are so friendly so our kids
The staffs attitude here makes me not want to visit again
Rubbish food. Appropriate for the dumpsters. I think the squid has been frozen since the ice age. Flavours were extremely strange, far from authentic. Chef lacks the skills and sadly has zero pride and passion for his job. Staff were weird, one guy was decent but the ladies were just unwelcoming and strange, not even sure if they were human or not, let alone being asian. lol
Charlie Chans dimsum is better than expected and authentic although the custard buns are surely steamed from frozen ones. The staff are friendly. The only thing is the restaurant is quite dimly lit and can benefit from more bright and happy decor
Poor service attitude, the stir-fried vegetables are unpalatable
As good as the cheapest take away in the city. I do not recommend it.
First came to this place 15 years ago fell in love with the Aromatic Crispy Duck. Happy to see the taste is still there, popularity and service seem to have improved. The place was full of satisfied guests.
Best dimsum and dumplings, well established restaurant.
Well well.. I had a very nice meal...I had service with a smile ... to top it off my waiter had jokes..
Staff were just there... not happy or inviting. Food is overpriced and bland as a whole. Wouldnt recommend. Food
Food was ok but the service was definitely not
Delicious rice rolls
Awesome food and staff love this place!!!
Wow- what can I say? Best dim sum I ve had! The service was quick and the food was hot and delicious, can t wait to go back again! Food
Good as always
Outstanding dim sum in Cambridge. Everything we had was a cut above most fun sum places. Their blck bean steamed spare ribs, sui mai, har gao, and lo mai gai were terrific. Cant wait to revisit.
Reminds me of your typical London Chinatown restaurant - menu, layout, decor, customer base. Food was good. Service was good (unlike London Chinatown, ha ha), but oh the toilets are too much like London on this occasion, unfortunately an incontinent patron had urinated all over the floor just in front of the urinals. Stepping in a puddle of urine to urinate was not pleasant way to end the evening.
Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Cambridge
Vegetarian options: Not many.
A great place for dim sum on Saturday lunch, though there can be a long wait as its popular
I was looking forward to it before going because the overall reviews on the Internet were pretty good and it was very popular every time I passed by. I was very disappointed after going there. It can be said to be the worst dine-in experience in the UK in more than 4 years. The reception staff are arrogant, have no sense of service at all, and speak in a commanding manner. My child was a bit lively. He left his seat to play in the restaurant during the meal, but his teammates kept watching him and did not let him run around. As a result, the service staff yelled at him to go back and sit down! The three-year-old child was too scared to dare. say. When we had already paid, we were pulled back to pay again because we made up for a dish we had missed. Even though we emphasized that we had finished eating and paid, the other party did not accept the refund. If you dont feel the slightest service, you will be charged a 10% service fee. The group of people were either full or full of anger.
Truly authentic delicious Chinese dishes. Some of the best Ive had anywhere. Reasonably priced too. I went with my relatives, stupidly we didnt book waited almost an hour but it was definitely worth it. Definitely book a table.
Great fun, great food.
Excellent dish and prompt service
Good place for Cantonese food, noisy when busy.
Too pricey for average Chinese food. The boiled beef was good
Service is far too slow. Not coming here again.
Absolutely enjoyed the food here. Siumai and hargao were excellent. Sweet and sour pork is always my favourite and this place nailed it. The tea was very lovely especially with that atmosphere. Lastly, staff was extremely friendly. Going back in the next few days for a Dim Sum lunch Food
Good food but service was slow, made mistakes on the bill and with our food as they added another dish that no one had ordered. We were also told that we could ONLY pay with three cards when there was nine of us.
Very good dim sum restaurant!
The steamed dim sum were great. Nothing else. Ordered a few stir fry dishes, they tasted terrible, like cigarette. We doubted the chef(s) were smoking during making dishes. Totally awful. Service was by far the worst Ive experienced, a kinda old man kept saying and doing things making us feel uncomfortable, eg. Removing the chopsticks sleeves for us but we wanted to do it ourselves and he said hes helping us to make a chopstick stand, in a very rude way; judging us not knowing how to count the coins when paying the bill with cash but we were just spending some time checking if we can save their time to do the changes, etc.
The most delicious food.
A friend invite us to here for Dim Sum, food are authentic and nice. I don t know how much is the bill as my friend paid. But for those can t stand noisy environment may need to be warned, here is very noisy in peak hours as all people talk very loud like yelling each other, but this is exactly a Yum Cha culture if you want to experience.
Stayed at Griffin House next to this place and found that it had been closed for several days.
The food didnt taste terrible which is why this has two stars. However, we ordered the Singapore-style Hor Fun and there was nothing Singaporean about it. It had tumeric in it strangely for Hor Fun and was dry. Again, wasnt terrible, very average and they should change the name. The reason why the rating is so low is also cause of the terrible service. Came in when it was still empty. We asked if they could seat us and they said yes but proceeded to forget to put in our orders and only realize 25min after when we asked, didnt answer our questions when we asked but ran off to try and fix the mistake without letting us know that our order hadnt been placed. By this point we were already severely delayed and would have to rush to catch our train. Had we known, we would have cancelled the order and left. They managed to rush the order, which I guess shows in the food quality. We asked for the bill after gobbling down our food and that took so long too because the person holding the machine kept getting distracted by people waiting. And when we asked if she could split the bill, she didnt acknowledge us. We had to ask for a receipt to ensure that it had been split. Didnt even acknowledge my friends thank you. Overall I will say youre better off trying any of the other Asian restaurants along the same row. Unless youre really looking for something that only this restaurant can provide, Id say try somewhere else.
The old man was so rude. Food was just OK.
Quick service, refill of hot tea and kind and courteous staff. Food was great too! Thank you for a lovely meal
Wonton soup noodle was amazing. Very busy on Friday night. Lovely Chinese restaurant with kind staff!!
3 stars. Service is poor. We book our table in advance. Turned up exactly on our time and we were made to wait for 15 mins because there were people still sitting at our table. Restaurant wasnt packed, I cant understand why they couldnt offer us different table. I didnt like the place itself - too dark and only artificial light, I felt like I sat in the dungeon. Food was lovely and absolutely everything was tasty. I am not an expert in asian food however I had better food here in Cambridge. It was pricy too. Definitely couldnt call it budget friendly.
Rang up lunch time the day of to request booking, confirmed 8pm for 2 people. Arrived that evening and politely told my name and time booked and response was do you really have a booking? Came back after a few minutes and told they didnt have my booking. Showed him the call on my phone and he said they had no record. I said do you have a table free (could see several empty) to be told kitchen was closed! I said the website says kitchen is open to 9.30pm and he said last orders 9pm. But it was 8pm. He then sullenly offered we could stay but our food would be rushed because the kitchen was closing. We left and ate elsewhere! Terrible customer service.
Xingzhou Fried Gui Diao is extremely unpalatable! There is only a strong curry powder flavor and not even bean sprouts There is a slightly fat uncle wearing glasses who is very weird! We ordered rice rolls and wanted to dip them in hoisin sauce, so we asked the uncle for hoisin sauce. Unexpectedly, the uncle said we dont have hoisin sauce and then we asked, where is the duck sauce? Its the sauce used to dip the crispy duck. Can you give us some rice rolls to dip in? Then the uncle said, Oh! Thats not seafood sauce or duck sauce! Thats our secret sauce. I was speechless! When the sauce was served, it was no different from other seafood sauces! Really speechless
I have tried several local teahouses, and in terms of food quality and price, they are good and cheap. They are closed on Wednesdays, so remember to make an appointment as early as possible, otherwise your appointment may be in vain.
Had a really lovely meal, ordered far too much! Was delicious and would definitely go back again. Service was wonderful too
The food was alright the first time when I visited, but terrible service the 2nd time, waited 30 minutes for nothing very irresponsible waiter
Must orders are the sizzling beef in black pepper sauce and salt and pepper prawns - the quality of ingredients used here are so fresh and tender. Get their stir fry over dim sum, as the dumplings were rather average. Possible to give the egg fried rice and beef hor fun a miss too. Few hits and misses but overall, lunch was delightful with helpful and brisk service in a comfortable Chinese restaurant setting.
Authentic
Lovely food
It was the worst experience I have had in a Chinese restaurant. The food was awful, I have been working in the catering industry for many years. From restaurants and hotels, and I have never been served such awful food. I like Chinese food but this restaurant put me off. The customer service I received was unwelcoming. I ordered five spicy beef with rice, I got a plat with rice and plain beef with gravy and lettuce. Treat all you customers the same don t matter how they look you know who walk into your establishment. I will advise my entire staff not eat at your restaurants.
I ordered dry-fried beef river (can give 4 points), it tastes good, the tender beef and side dishes are well-balanced, but the river noodles are a bit scattered; the fish head tofu soup uses salmon head, which slightly loses points, but the soup is thick and white and tastes good ; In addition, the beef balls and shrimp dumplings are both OK in appearance and taste. The only regret is the stir-fried vegetables with fermented bean curd. It tastes very good but the dish is too old. It is not the skill of the chef but the season. The waiters were also great and very attentive.
The restaurant provides a wide range of yummy Dim Sums. Though the skin of the Xiao Long Bao is too thick to my liking.
Extremely fresh food. Salted egg buns alone are worth it!
5 starts all round
Nice food and friendly hosts. Really enjoyed the duck and will come again
I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed the food here. The only real Chinese food in Cambridge.
The service was terrible. We were seated in a corner table which was too small for our party, behind a dessert displace. The servers forgot that we had ordered mains so after our appetisers we waited for an hour with no food. We were scolded when we asked for cutlery. When we asked for plates for our mains, they never came and eventually we had to eat them out of soup bowls, with soup spoons, out of sheer hunger. One of the worst dining experiences we ve ever had.
While the food was acceptable, the service provided at the restaurant was extremely disappointing and even upsetting. My companions and I, being the only Indians present, felt that we were treated differently than other diners. Our food arrived significantly later than expected, and when we inquired about it, the staff gave excuses and failed to bring us the plates they promised. We were left with no option but to eat out of soup bowls, and when we requested proper plates, the server responded rudely, making offensive remarks about us being unmanageable and implying that we didnt deserve plates. This experience was hurtful and made us lose our appetite. Despite the poor service and the apparent discrimination we faced, we paid the bill with the added service charge to avoid giving the restaurant a chance to feel justified in their racist behavior. I strongly advise others against visiting this establishment, as it was an unpleasant and discriminatory experience that we do not wish anyone else to go through.
Been coming here for a long time but the service has gradually declined, whilst prices has gone up. Rude service on the last visit. We will start to go to Yim Wah instead. Loyal customers lost. Cannot continue at this rate.
Not been here for ages and unfortunately no plans to come back. The food was uncooked, table cloths and plates are dirty. Then the argument at the end which was simply to provide feedback to the new chef went on for ages. Wasnt asking for a discount or anything, simply let the chef know its not up to scratch.
Impressive site. Very good price, delicious food and very fast and friendly service. We have felt very comfortable in the restaurant and they have been patient with us, who do not speak English well. 100% recommended.
Amazing food. Went in on the Saturday and it was full so we woke up on the Sunday and booked a table for Sunday dim sum. They food is amazing. I get what people say about the angry man. He is just old school HK service man. Deffo worth going in and having a try. Will be going back soon
Never wanted to get out of a place so quickly. Staff are so so rude especially the middle-aged guy. Food is okay. But we could not stand the attitude of the staff team. How the man gave us food is like throwing stuff on the table. I dont know how this generation of owners gonna survive.
This place claims to offer localized Cantonese cuisine, which basically translates to a sad departure from authenticity due to generations of mismanagement. Prepare to be thoroughly unimpressed by their lackluster Dim Sum, especially the abysmal bbq pork rice roll. And don t even get me started on the audacity of serving roasted duck without a trace of plum sauce! The so-called bbq pork is a pitiful excuse for meat thin, parched, and a downright struggle to chew. Save yourself the agony and spare any fellow Cantonese or Hong Kong natives from this culinary nightmare. Oh, and as the cherry on top of this disaster, the staff somehow managed to master the art of wearing expressions of perpetual anger without a shred of reasonable cause.
My recent experience at this restaurant was deeply disappointing. I had made a reservation a day prior, yet upon arriving on time, the staff denied any knowledge of it. Even though the restaurant was half empty, they insisted there were no available tables. Whats more frustrating is that they claimed the person who answered my reservation call wasnt their employee, despite using their official number. What a joke! Their attitude was equally disappointing. The staff seemed indifferent and showed no effort to resolve the situation. All in all, Im extremely dissatisfied with the experience and wont be returning. Id caution others to think twice before choosing this restaurant.
Lovely food. It was very quiet when we first came in. Our food came very quickly and the staff were all friendly. The hot and sour soup was lovely - nice peppery flavour to it. We had a range of dishes, but really enjoyed the crispy aromatic duck, sizzling beef in black bean sauce and the special fried rice. Loads of meat and prawns in the rice. Can t fault the food at all and the service was lovely. Atmosphere was very quiet when we arrived, but picked up quickly. The place was buzzing when we were leaving. Lots of mixed reviews for the place, and maybe if it s busier the service is a little lacking, but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.
One of mid age service man who wearing the tattoo is super arrogant and impolite. Contempt, disrespect, even discrimination.
Recommended as the restaurant of choice for authentic dim sum, as well as a fine selection of Chinese cuisine. Returned and will definitely be returning.
Best dim sum in Cambridge, plenty of option for all palettes.
Service was good and staff was friendly. The crispy noodles I ordered was very bland with hardly any taste other then salt. There was only Bok Chou added in vegetables.
a very good restaurant, steam sea bass is really good. Dim sum is good.
Among the Chinese restaurants in Cambridge, this one seems to have decent food (from a southerners perspective) and a good environment. The boss and service staff may have a bad look on their faces, but they have capital, right?
Nice dim sum but the number of choices is shrinking...
Decent food and OK service but very loud and difficult to have a conversation.
Great place for roast duck and noodles. Delicious and very quick service. Thanks
I am an avid fan of dim sum and this place raised the bar. Everything was fresh and served quickly. I loved every dish we picked and I would definitely recommend this establishment to others.
My experience at this restaurant was not great. My cutlery and glasses were dirty, the tablecloth had large yellow stains, unwatchable, the chairs where we were sitting were half broken. The waiter was very serious, almost annoyed to serve us, not even half a smile during the service. It was very cold in the room where we ate and each of us wore a coat while eating. Im sorry, but no one would return to eat in a place like this.
Enjoyed food really nice
Good food and reasonable price
Went for dim sum for lunch at the weekend. Quality of the dim sum was excellent - the best Ive had in many years. We had a mix of food between us as a group and all the dishes were really very good. Service was also very good - friendly and brisk and efficient. Would highly recommend it and will definitely be back.
The best place to eat Cantonese dim sum in Cambridge. There are many dim sum to choose from. They don t taste like frozen ones and the dining environment is quite nice! It would be great if you could also order their takeaways on Deliveroo! Sometimes I am really too lazy to go out.
Absolutely fantastic
Food was not good and the service was by far the worst service I ve ever received among many Chinese restaurants I ve been in the UK. Staff is so unfriendly and ignore us when we call. Won t recommend this place and will never come back here again.
Very disappointed. The food was not fresh and mediocre at best. My stomach was quite upset afterwards as well. The prices seem unreasonable too as they charged us for water. Definitely will not come back again!
Good food, but a very small portion of each dish with the prices very expensive. Basically an authentic Chinese restaurant good for families and child friendly, just a bit expensive and small portions, everything else was great and enjoyed my night there.
Decent dim sum. Everything ordered was steaming hot and well made. From what I ve seen they have the largest range of Cantonese style dim sum items available in the center. A good idea to call and reserve a table as I noticed a few walk ins turned away.
It was recommended by a HK friend, and the food was delicious, you could tell the dim sum were homemade, great texture and taste
We had an amazing work festive feast here. Thank you!
One star for that sarcastic chubby uncle. He is extremely, extremely, extremely rude! Infuriating!
We received the most revolting treatment at this restaurant. The smell was terrible and I was grateful that our booking was declined. If your kitchen closes at 9pm why would you accept bookings for 8.30? Also if someone was delayed wouldn t you tell them there was an issue? The awful man was so rude and entitled I just can t believe this place is still in business. There are so many incredible restaurants in Cambridge go give them your business rather than this bunch of Idiots.
Dim Sum is good but service is the worst. The younger waiter was blatantly racist and extremely rude to people who werent white.
We had great food and service the only negative point is that we were sat next to the door so our food became cold very quickly.
junk service
Excellent food, Excellent service. Waiter helped and recommended different dishes. Thank you Look forward to seeing you soon and trying some different Dim Sum dishes.
Excellent, first class cusine, ambience, and service. This restaurant is a little gem.
Nice food and staff.
Best Chinese restaurant in Cambridge.
Authentic dim sum restaurant, if you love Cantonese food, must try.
Food was amazing would definitely recommend!
Rubbish service, that young waiter acted like a dead mother
Service is terrible. We werent allowed to split the bill. The dim sum is decent and thats about it. Would not recommend.
The best Chinese food in town. Dim sum make in the kitchen of the restaurant, rare find nowadays. The pork rice is very nice.
Dropping Quality Last month, they served us a sizzling iron grill dish that was only slightly warm when came to our table. This month, they forgot one of the orders. In the past, all of the orders came fast without mistake. Served fresh and hot. I was not sure about this restaurant now. From food quality and service quality.
Best dim sum dishes I could find in town. Enjoyed every meal since we started going there!
Great proper Chinese staff and service 1st class as always
My grievance is that the staff were very impolite rather to be precise neglected my guest and I when we were at lunch on Thursday. Highly unprofessional behaviour towards customers and have no value for customers time. I sat for 15 minutes just to receive my bill and at the end was compelled to go to counter to request for the bill and thereafter pay. Moreover, the attitude of the gentleman in charge was carefree, sufficiently neglectful and rather insulting. I hope that the restaurant owner receives this remarks and brief the staff to be cordial to customers, specifically customers of colour. It is such a shame that a prominent restaurant like this would mistreat students.
Went for lunch yesterday. It tasted good, but the price was a bit expensive. A small dish of vegetables cost £12.
After 2 weeks running away from Shanghai, of course I ll miss to have some Chinese food for dinner. Environment: Standard Chinese-style large round table, clean and neat, facing the counter for easy ordering Service: There is an uncle who looks like a foreigner and is very good at Chinese. He doesn t understand me when I speak English, but he always speaks standard Mandarin to me and is very cordial. Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce is very delicious, even my boyfriend thought it was delicious when he ate it for the first time The boiled fish fillet is very spicy. Its a bit too spicy so I cant taste the freshness of the fish. It has been too long so not really remember what I ordered... But it was generally delicious, just a little salty.
First time eating at Charlie Chan was last weekend. It was a spur of the moment option however it was quite late, after looking at the hours of operation on the door I thought we wouldnt be able to eat much less sit down. However, I was completely wrong and thoroughly impressed when they allowed us to sit down and eat although the kitchen was getting ready to close. We ordered a few things from the menu, everything came out sizzling hot (as most places weve discovered dont) and the portion size was great even more than we expected. All in all the food was absolutely amazing and worth the amount paid. I would highly recommend this restaurant based on their customer service (they didnt try to hurry us at all), attention to detail, quality of ingredients and delicious food. We will definitely come back!
The Chinese food should be good, the service should be good, and the seats can be a good choice
We have eaten here a couple of times recently. The food is excellent but more importantly, at a time when service is suffering everywhere, Rodelio is the consummate professional. He even remembered that I had previously asked for egg fried rice with my char Sui pork two weeks previously. Very impressive and why we will keep going back. Thank you
Ive lived in Cambridge for 5 years and decided to try Charlie Chans recently. Ive been in and around the hospitality industry for 44 years and our company has serviced literally 1000s of restaurants and hotels. The food is top notch but what made this restaurant for me is the young waiter Rodelio who knew his craft. Watching him serve (probably mostly tourists) with patience and knowledge is a real talent and his craft. its a real pleasure to see professionals in this industry. Most customers are rude but if you smile and treat someone with respect youll see the true human and professional. Ive been back 3 times and look forward to the next serving. Highly, highly recommend this establisment.
It was OK but I did remember it to be better many years ago. We ordered to much food for just two so they were kind enough to put it to take it at home with us
Very authentic and tastes like the motherland. My son is very satisfied with the Chinese food he loves
Good food but it s incredibly noisy and impossible to hear anything. Service is quite slow too. Not coming back.
I love it, as being a Chinese, because they serve authentic Cantonese food there.
We had so much help in ordering from very patient and fun staff the food was beyond amazing! The restaurant is also very pretty! Best meal so far in our visit to Cambridge!
The worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life any where in the world do not where to begin terrible staff had an on line booking for a Sunday afternoon they said we didnt made us wait around for 30 minutes when we eventually got a table extremely slow service and flat drinks from the bottle starters took forever to get to us upstairs whilst a table of Chinese people got served straight away had to ask for some one to come over to our table after one and half hours still no main course kid put on a separate table the other side of the room gave up and walked out discussed payed for drinks only and left please avoid these people at all costs
The food is great, the atmosphere is great, and people of excellence work here.
Have been here before many years ago. Certainly my favourite Chinese restaurant in Cambridge. Had vegetarian spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken and Singapore Chow Mein which was a huge portion. Will be back again.
Staffs were friendly, polite, professional and helpful. The freshly made beef balls dim sum was a bit salty, but overall, the food was nice. We would go again and try different food as the menu list is quite long!
Although under new management since the Pandemic, they still do the best Dim Sums in Cambridge.
Good food, good quality service. Friendly staff Vegetarian options: Vegan options Kid-friendliness: High chairs available
The best Chinese restaurant for miles, great food especially the dim sum. The service is excellent and very friendly.
I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants in Cambridge. This one is considered good. The food is quite authentic. The store is clean, the restrooms are clean, and the service is good.
Institution
Dim sum was OK, some dishes good some are not as good. Service alright. Clean and nice vibe. But when we payed for the bill, the restaurant owner gave us an old £5 note change and told us it can be used till this October. I questioned as I remembered it is no longer in use. She insisted so I took it. When I used it in other places I was told it was no longer in use for FIVE YEARS. And I had to go to the bank to get it changed. Totally unacceptable to deceive your customer just because we dont look like locals. Such a shame for the food you cooked.
So so bad attitude for Chinese Sham on them
Taste like old style Hong Kong restaurant, very traditional one. Food quality is very good with reasonable price.
Service absolutely rubbish, complicated menu. Ordered the pork was inedible, generally awful. Avoid if possible.
High-quality dim sum in the heart of Cambridge. Charlie Chan has been around for ages and it never disappoints. It is worth calling ahead to book your table just for extra certainty as they can sometimes be full at lunchtimes.
A very good chinese restaurant and her dim sums are delicious.
We arrived 10 minutes late due to a wardrobe malfunction, on arrival we stood waiting as there were a few people in front of us. When we were seen we told them about our booking and were told the table wasnt yet ready and they asked us to wait, no problem. The group of 4 Americans behind us was given a table straight away which was slightly annoying but then we were just left waiting for 15 minutes being completely ignored. We ended up leaving because the staff wouldnt even look at us in the end.
Very poor service and rude staff! Arrived at 12:00 and ordered 6 dim sum dishes, only two was served, we waited approx.50mins and nothing else was served and nobody come with an explanation. What a time waster AVOID
Really nice food and authentic, service was also good. Thank you!
After waiting for 10 minutes, we were seated at a table that was not properly cleaned, with fresh grease and tea stains all over the table cloth. We asked for the table cloth to be replaced, but the waitress refused to do so. Instead she told us to go.
A delicious institution!
Nice until you experience it.
Nice dimsum place
Nice dinner. Not to expensive but not cheap.
Amazing dim sums
With the ever growing Asian community in Cambridge this restaurant is very popular the food quality and service suffers from its success hygiene is an issue not to be overlooked
The rudest customer service you can get, the food and the portion sizes are good, but it is greatly let down by the lack of customer service, there is none at all, they are rude to people, argue with customers and make it difficult over the most simplest things. You can actually see the hatred in these peoples faces for their customers and you can hear the contempt in their voices. They seem very polite if your are Chinese though. I think they hate any other nationality other than Chinese eating in their restaurant, not an international friendly place to eat.
Looks like a family run place. Very friendly owners and excellent food. Casual place but has all what one wants to see in menu. Great place to enjoy authentic Chinese food. Best were dumplings and chicken in black pepper sauce. A treat in the heart of the town. Enjoy
Tradition Chinese Food. Nothing special
Excellent food. Took more time than usual to get the dumplings.
Food is fine although more expensive than comparable restaurants. Staff seemed to go out of their way to be rude. I m not sure what we did to draw any offense.
Excellent dumplings!
The food was amazing BUT I told the waiter I had an allergy and to please let me know if anything we order had that ingredient. He said he would ask the chef and didn t come back with the answer. They brought the food, I ate, and until we were finished he said ah by the way, this plate has that ingredient and this was until I had already eaten that of course This is completely unacceptable. For me, my allergy gives me red bumps, swollen lips, swollen tongue, general itchiness, but my life is not at risk. There is people that can put their life at risk because of allergies Although the food had a wonderful taste, the recklessness of the waiter put me at risk.
Although the food came fast and was hot, and also the restaurant had a nice, clean vibe, the food was not that good, (eg. sour sweet chicken had too much vinegar) i dont think the prices we paid here were fitting for the quality of the food. The staff was also very nice, sweet and patient
Refuses to sit a woman on her own, instead allowed a group behind me in the queue a table in my place. The man working there actually stated they don t do tables for one. He then sarcastically said thank you as I left. The staff are very rude and openly misogynistic. Stay away! Edit: after reading the other many 1 star reviews before mine, it looks like I dodged a bullet as many other people have complained about staff rudeness.
Great food and great service!
Food is OK and maybe this kind of restaurant is in great demand so the business is good. Individual (older) waiter had a long face when serving. The restaurant is small and packed. The food is okay, but maybe there arent many Chinese restaurants like this in Cambridge, so business is pretty good. Some older waiters serve with a straight face and speak coldly, but on the contrary, the young guys serve enthusiastically. The restaurant is small and the seats are cramped. The decoration is not tasteful.
