224 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3NF, United Kingdom
Easygoing eatery offering Asian fare & dim sum, plus live music & a shop with instruments.
Service was outstanding, really lovely, attentive staff. I went for the first time since I moved here 5 years ago. I think it's because the image deserves a refresh. A lick of paint and a tidy up would make it a lot more inviting. I left feeling I'd eaten too much fried food (had the duck dim sum meal for 2), although there were also some salad dishes. I prefer somewhere else locally but I reckon if there were a refreshed visage I might try again. A friend raved about the place and said it's better in a big group than as just two people! Try the wife cake!
Really nice spot, relaxed, friendly staff. The cocktails are good, the dimsum is great and fairly well priced compared to other big cities. The place is gorgeous from the inside as well.
The most amazing dinner! Fantastic vegan options and everything tasted so good. The waitresses were so lovely and the atmosphere is great. Lovely place and would come again asap!
I had dinner here with my parents and it was great!! We all had the basic set menu, my mum and I had veggie/vegan and my dad had the meat. Both selections were delicious, high quality and varied. The photo here is only one of two courses. It was amazing value for money too, £20 each for so much food, we had leftovers which we took home. The tea really complimented the food, and the waiter offered us a refill half way through. Really attentive and considerate staff, and great food. Thank you 💕
I really enjoyed my time here. The vegan menu was really good. My partner and I had the sweet and sour seitan and we both really liked it. The set up was nice and it was a very calming atmosphere. I would have given it 5 stars if there was live music. My partner and I picked this place for date night expecting music but apparently they only play sometimes, so that was disappointing. Just a heads up make sure you have cash because they don't take cards.
Liutaio was a delightful experience, I highly recommend it. A very days per week, Liutaio offers set menus exclusively. They had 3 different vegan set menus. As we were three, we ordered one each and shared. I also order a virgin cocktail (La Rose de Versailles) which was delightful. The food was delicious and diverse. I forgot to take a picture of the desserts, which were also delicious. The staff were always attentive and helpful. The restaurant is also a store and sells antiques and music instruments. The atmosphere is relaxing and intimate. Please note that although Liutaio has an extensive vegan menu, they only have one steamer and one fryer.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Everything was prepared with care. The wooden furniture and Chinese items lend this place a nice flair. Most items are for purchase, too. This is the perfect place, if you'd like to try vegan dim sum :)
Great food in a unique atmosphere. The restaurant is like no other. Inside are lots of different instruments and the decor is very unique and vintage. Gives an inviting feeling. The service is great, attentive and fast. Food is very good. Dishes were pretty good - pork and coriander dumplings were amazing. Would highly recommend those.
The best Asian restaurant in Cambridge. My partner and I love this place.
Delicious Dim Sum any day of the week. We ordered set menu which included for just about 20 pounds each a large starter platter (with spring rolls, chicken skewers, gyoza, fried prawns and more) and a large portion of Dim Sum. And included also a non alcoholic drink. There are also alcoholic beverages on the menu. The atmosphere is unique, China and music inspired, with Chinese objects on sale and string instruments like violins. Staff very friendly, large portions and good food for very reasonable prize
Lovely, unique restaurant which had a great menu and fast service. All around positive service!!. Food was great but the cocktails however left much to be desired. On the dearer side for what you get but will definitely visit again.
Unfortunately the Restaurant has changed its menue. So there are no single person menue set for 1 person any more as in the pictures shown. You fan either choose fron a variety of 2 person sets, choose ONE not closer described single person set or leave. No discussion possible. So hungry loner: dive into the unknown or ...leave. Interesting business concept
The food is exquisite and the amazing service made the experience exceedingly great, and during the time that we were waiting for out food the lady of the restaurant gave us teas and was extremely friendly! Many thanks for the spring rolls Food
Great place!
For the price, the quality of the dim sum doesnt meet my expectation. They dont seem to be hand made, but more like cherrypicked from the pre-packed frozen dim-sum from the Chinese food stores and they are just steaming them up for me. I would much prefer somewhere like Charlie Chan and the quality of the food is way beter. Music restaurant is a bit of a fake. I was expecting somebody playing music live, but it turned out that they are just playing CD.... disappointing again
I feel oddly conflicted about this place! Had some dim sum and it was high quality, hot, incredibly tasty and good portions. The drinks were interesting - I had an amazing hot honey and yuzu drink made with real yuzu fruit. The prawn har gau was stuffed with juicy prawn (no chopped mashed prawn here!). Great gyoza and delicious ribs. But the atmosphere is very odd. It was empty on a Saturday lunchtime, they don t take credit cards (why?), and much of the place feels crowded with stuff to sell. The full dim sum meals were high priced (£39 each) and I d want to know more about the dishes to spend that much. Staff were pleasant and food came quickly.
This place never fails
We booked this place for dinner and there were just the four of us the whole evening. The place is also a shop and it was tight with items for sale displayed everywhere. The food was tasty but very expensive. The menu offered was very weird, there were sets for two and one couldnt just choose what they wanted. Our friends werent crazy hungry and were forced to overorder
Excellent dim sum. Service was excellent, the ladies were very attentive and asked about any intolerances. Parking: Depending on the time of day, there is on street parking.
I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to highly rate this neighbourhood gem. We had a delicious meal for two and left highly satisfied. Service was excellent, they asked every diner their dietary needs upon seating at tables, and the restaurant was so interesting inside. A feast for the senses! Will be back! Dietary restrictions: They have an entire vegetarian/vegan menu, and ask about dietary needs immediately upon entering. Very attentive.
Have a dim sum set menu and a cocktail or two, you wont regret it. I love this place, a real Mill Road experience.
The location was right in front of the traffic light, I ordered rice and seafood soup while my friend ordered rice and vegetarian sweet and sour soup, I had the Senbonzakura cocktail, so nice and refreshing. We visited on a Saturday but there wasn t any music as the name implies, lol, you can confirm when they perform beforehand. Atmosphere was great, we could relax, talk and we felt free, service was nice but decoration was mid. I recommend for second time dates or business casual.
Excellent food, very tasty and delicious. Not giving 5 stars only because of the extra 10% you have to pay when they play some music (which we dont like, but that might be my taste cannot blame the musician). Great value on menu sets.
amazing food and wonderful people!!
Below average food. Not worth the price. Food lacked flavour and the quantity was minimal compared to some other Chinese restaurants in town.
Best vegan dim sum I have ever had! Always come here for a treat. Beautiful restaurant too & often has live music. 100% my restaurant recommendation for Cambridge.
Lots of vegan options and all tasted lovely! The person that took our order was really friendly and the restaurant itself was like being in an antiques shop! Would definitely recommend
Awesome place. Delicious, authentic, freshly-made Chinese food in a cool music shop.
2 set dinner 2 extra main meals 4 Chinese tea costs £170, Chinese tea costs over £3.00 per person, a total rip off, no live music, still have to pay for Service charge WHAT Service are they providing?? , food below average, prawn crackers tasted stale, the Dim Sum nothing special, frozen shop bought re-heat. Cash payment only. Highly recommend NOT to go there. I would give no star if I could. This owner takes us all for a fool, dont go there
Amazing restaurant, food and service.
This place had great vegan food. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice and peaceful. The only downfall was that I though there would be live music. After asking the waitress she stated they only do that every once in awhile. Other than that this place was fantastic.
Went there this Sunday, not really a good place. Somehow they wanted us to order a set meal in order to get some unique dim sum dishes... We didnt order the set meal as it has a lot of deep fried stuff which is never authentic Chinese cuisine.... Food wise, the quality is so so, but the portion is bad... spent around fifty for two persons but didnt really eat much :(
Brilliant! We booked a dinner for ten with live-music and the dishes kept coming and coming ... everybody loved it! My favourite restaurant in Cambridge - unique, great food, music, and wonderful hosts who make you feel at home.
This is easily one of the best restaurants in Cambridge, a real hidden gem serving super authentic dim sum for very reasonable prices. Portion sizes are great too. Theres huge selection, great for veggies/vegans too, but theres also set menu options if youre overwhelmed by the vast array of different dumplings - all of which Ive tried so far on 3 separate visits have been delicious. Very friendly service and a real unique atmosphere that isnt trying to be anything other than what it is - traditional, good value, authentic food. Ive lived in Cambridge almost 30 years and I tend to only write reviews when a place is really, really good. This is one of those times.
I loved the way the restaurant is decorated with the East Asian items mixed in with musical instruments. It made for a very inviting and relaxed feel. The food was equally delicious; we ordered an assortment of dim sum and main dishes. Overall, service was prompt and everything was well executed. My only nitpick is that the place is cash only. There s a cash point across the road if you don t have enough on hand. Not enough of a downside to cause me to take a star away though!
They dont take reservations via the phone or online. You will have to go in person in advance to book. You can only order their set menu if you go with a large group. They only accept cash. The food was okay but quite pricey. The restaurant is decorated with musical instruments but you will have to book in advance to go to the music shop. No live music when we went.
Very good DimSum in an interestingly decorated antique shop with beautiful music!
Nice place but dont accept cards
A wonderful experience, they played live music as we walked in, and we had the seasonal dumpling shared platter - every single one was delicious! I also enjoyed looking through the items they had on sale at the back of the restaurant. Fast and friendly service.
Wow what an amazing quaint gem. Friendly staff in an eclectic atmosphere. Food is made fresh so be prepared to wait 20mins but the food is served hot, plentiful and absolutely delicious!.... truly unique restaurant.
Vegan food. Incredibly tasty. Slightly more expensive than average.
Excellent Takoyaki. 15-20mims for steamed buns and dumplings, great portions and flavours. Cash only, ATM at the co-op across the road. Vegetarian options: Clearly labelled Vegan, Vegetarian and Pescetarian
If you want good food and good service then come here, dim sum to die for, takoyaki to did for and a lovely smile on the face of the waitress. Oh and they have a great selection of antiques and stuff to buy
Absolutely delicious and the staff are brilliant. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed a vegetable set menu, it can be difficult to find vegetarian Chinese food let alone dim sum so pleased to have this in Cambridge. £59 for two, more than enough food for this price. Vegetarian options: They have various vegetarian and vegan set menus.
Food is good but beware that they dont let you order the dumplings as you want. Basically they want you to have their set menu. Also they dont tell you before that they take cash only. I wont be coming back.
Dim sum was the worse I have ever had. Wine, only one choice of white, rose or red all extortionately priced, .....almost £10 per 175ml per glass, and not as described. Atmosphere... non-existent. Cash only....and only told this when the bill arrived. Told there was a cash-point across the road!! Service charge supposedly discretionary but included on the bill.
We had the Silk Road set menu and it was very good indeed. The staff were lovely and very helpful. I have been here a few times and will return again Food : 5/5
Fantastic restaurant serving delicious, fresh meals, with plenty of veggie options, and great cocktails.
It was very quiet as it was a Monday, we were the only ones there! The menu was good except the specific set meals were all for 2, which meant I had to just order everything from it for myself, but that turned out to be too much food. Very nice food though, even if some of it was too spicy. Also the music was good. Vegetarian options: Half of the set menus available are vegan.
Three of us went there and ate mostly but not all vegan. Mostly dim sum and some dishes ordered through one of their many set meal options. The food was delicious, every single dish, excellent service with good advice on ordering. Plentiful food, complete with desserts to choose. Extremely friendly management. We will be regulars now that we have discovered this gem. We used to live in the West Coast of the US with excellent Chinese restaurants and are just delighted to find one here. Vegetarian options: absolutely delicious with lots of variety.
Visited here with my daughter for an early dinner. The staff were great. They helped us with any dishes we werent sure about and the food was delicious! Definitely need to book if visiting after 5.30pm.
Lovely people, lovely food
Great food, deep fried box tastes delicious!
One of my favourite places along Mill Road. And theres a lot of competition. Wonderful dim sum set menus. So good in fact Ive failed to investigate the rest of the menu. Food : 5/5
Vegetarian options: Great veggie options. Dietary restrictions: Asked as soon as we entered about our dietary restrictions to accommodate. Great service! Food : 5/5 |
Food was really delicious, the live music created a lovely atmosphere and the service was great - they even split the bill for us with a drawing based on where we were sat! Will be back!
Nice fusion food restaurant
LOVE LOVE LOVE this beautiful cafe! I have never had so many vegan dim sum options that were all executed exquisitely and to high quality. I dont live in Cambridge but I will return solely to eat here again. Amazing food and service. Love the instruments and the music. Vegetarian options: Vegan options are VARIED and TASTY!
this place is a gem in cambridge. the drinks were lovely, very unique flavours and well made cocktails. for the food, we tried the crispy squid, octopus dough balls, duck gyoza, and char siu buns, they were all absolutely delicious and everything tasted very fresh. wish there was live music when we went, but would definitely go back another time for the music!
They refused me service due to my dietary requirements.
Excellent food. Great dim sum sets. Lovely live music and ambiance.
Bad Attitude by the Waitress. Came for a small byte and was asked to place minimum order of 40 pounds for 4 people. Not worth it . Left the place immediately because of rude behaviour.
Lovely Cantonese restaurant in a cosy music shop setting. Traditional loose leaf tea, Xiao Long Bao (steamed soup dumplings) and other dishes where all amazing!
Amazing dim sum, so tasty. This place is a hidden gem on mill road. And the service was fantastic and friendly
Love the atmosphere! Beautiful instruments, live music and kind intelligent people surrounding you :) highly recommended. Especially - if you need something for your violin!
My partner and I enjoyed a vegetarian set menu here (the Staccato). The food was fresh, hot, and very tasty from start to finish. The restaurant is decorated with musical instruments, many from Asia, as well as decorative storage boxes. This all makes for a quirky, yet special, ambiance. It is also cozy. Bring cash, as this restaurant does not take credit cards.
Food was delicious! My favourite food item was the shiitake drops. They also have some interesting tea options -- try the licorice root or black chrysanthemum tea. The lady serving us was patient and kind. I hope to come here again
Delicious food and excellent service! Definitely something you cant miss if youre visiting Cambridge ;) if you like music youll love this restaurant ^^
The food is decent. Love chatting with the staff at a clean and comfortable environment!
Hidden gem! Food was insane and team/service was fantastic!
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Cambridge. The space is quirky, unique and interesting, and the food is the same! Plenty of thoughtful and delicious vegan dishes and great selection of teas too! The only thing that lets it down is the fact that it s not coeliac-friendly. I ve been on a detox for the past so I haven t been able to visit as I m avoiding gluten - however I ll definitely be back soon!
Odd little music shop/great dim sum place
Fantastic steamed Dim Sum and pork belly to die for, in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Kind and competent staff.
Glorious venue. The food was just excellent- incredibly tasty, classic but the fine details were right. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Delicious food, premium ambiance, friendly staff. Highly recommended. I had lunch here yesterday and left my backpack with a MacBook in it. I didn t realise it until early today. The laptop contains very important information. The friendly staff kept it safe and when I came back to look for it, them recognised me straightaway. I can t express in words how grateful I am. Great people, great food!
Great veggie and vegan offerings with plenty of options.
Lovely food, great service and really good for young kids, especially with earlier openings at the weekends for dim sum. The only drawback is that there is no change table in the bathroom, but other than that, its fab!
Excellent food. Nearly caught out by the Cash Only policy.
Great :) We asked if we could upgrade the full vegan set menu from 2 to 4 people, so they offered us to pick different salads, mains, and desserts between the 4 of us as well; this way we got to try lots of the menu! There were many tasty bits in there and a massive selection of vegan and vegetarian foods - massive amount of food for the price too. Their drinks are delicious and beautifully presented too, I especially enjoyed the hit Juzu & Honey drink. The waitress was also very sweet and helpful! Would definitely recommend for vegetarians and vegans who want to enjoy tasty Dim Sum! Only downside: the venue is cash only, but luckily there are ATMs nearby at Tesco & Co-op.
Amazing authentic Chinese food. Great decor as well
Would definitely recommend! Great authentic food with a range of veggie/vegan/meaty selection! Lovely staff too and setting. Must go to, best meal out I ve had in a while. THANK YOU!
Well, it looks beautiful, and the menu looked beautiful with lots of items I wanted to try. But I was not able to try the things I wanted, and the experience was so off-putting. I walked in around noon on a weekday when the place was absolutely empty, and asked to order dim sum for takeout. I was trying to order items that were listed on the large a la carte menu up in the window. I was told that they were out of most of the things that had intrigued me enough to go in. Like 3 out of 5 things. I asked when they would have them so I could come again another time to try the items listed on the menu that I was interested in. Then I was told, well, we _have_ them right now, but _you_ can t order them now a la carte because then we wouldn t have enough for the full set meals later. That just felt really awful to me. I m not inspired to want to go have an expensive set meal there after that. And if items are only available as part of the set menu, they should not be advertised in the window as being available a la carte. It s really disappointing because it looks beautiful and the menu looked great. Probably if you are with a group ordering set menus instead of a solo woman wanting to sample a few things when they re empty at lunchtime, they d be more interested in having you as a customer and you d have a better experience.
Absolutely loved it! Food was absolutely delicious and big selection of everything. Amazing teas and very nice service. Just FYI they dont accept cards but right across the street is ATM it will definitely not stop to visit again and again.
Absolutely amazing. I am left speechless of how good the food was. And the live music was incredible. With very polite and friendly staff
New favourite restaurant in town! Absolutely amazing tasting menu, great vegan options, so well priced, beautiful decor and live music to top it all off.
The best restaurant in Cambridge! We would eat here every day if we could! The vegan tasting menu is amazing! We love their tea selection and the food is the best weve had in Cambridge. The service is fantastic, the staff makes you feel like family. It feels like having dinner at their home rather than eating at a restaurant. We love catching the live music because its so relaxing and really sets the mood.
Was walking pass with my friends searching for good place to have lunch, and Voilà! So happy to discover this special small restaurant in end off Mill road Prices affordable, food portions huge, quality and standards are high! So on that note highly recommended! If you love music will love this place too
My favourite place for dim sum in Cambridge. Excellent choice also for vegans, lovely venue, exquisite teas to go with your food, and a peaceful, relaxing musical atmosphere. Wonderful service. The restaurant also features a shop selling violins, wooden boxes and prints, and other very interesting items.
The food was good, but it felt quite overpriced.
We had one of the best meals in a long time here. The food was unbelievably delicious, the drinks remarkable (best gin and tonic weve ever had, and their homemade cocktails are so delicious and unique), with wonderful staff and the live music was so atmospheric and made the experience even more special. We cant wait to come back!
Nice atmosphere and very welcoming. All courses we had were prepared with great attention to details and packed with flavours. Will definitely come back.
Wonderful dining experience! The service was excellent and the quality of food was very high. We tried the vegan set menu and were amazed at the number of options they had, great value for money, will definitely visit again
The set menu here is great, and soo much food! Caters really well for vegans, would definitely recommend to anyone, vegan or not
Wonderful place, great atmosphere, great food, great staff. Vegan friendly.
It was brilliant. This restaurant is a southern Asian fusion restaurant, meaning theres food from all over southern Asia. I got a mocktail (the azure) and it looks beautiful, as well as tastes great. For the mains, me and my family got a dim sum set for two, and a land and spicy sea set for two. Its lovely: very large meal, all the components made carefully, great, fast service, and even a little shop where I bought a jade charm and some Buddha and turtle figures for a good, fair price. Then for dessert we got the hot yuzu and honey drink (which was brilliant: it really warms you up) and the Apple gyozas (which come with corn syrup), as well as two extra salted caramel ice creams. It was brilliant. Im not from Cambridge, but if I ever come here again, which I expect I will, I will be sure to visit this place. If youre in the area, at least try this place out, youll love it. .
Great little restaurant with friendly staff! Dim sum fixed menu had a fantastic selection and was very filling - we had to take some away for later in the end! They went out of their way to cater for our preferences.
Average and expensive.
I had charsiu buns, which were nice, but I also ordered har gao, which unfortunately came raw and I only discovered it being raw after seeing half a raw prawn in the remainder of a bite. The server was nice, but didnt apologise. She also offered to get fresh har gaos, but the waiting time for any dim sum to come out from the kitchen is a minimum of 20 mins. Disappointed with the shop, really wanted to have a worthwhile time.
Delicious. Very nice surprise. A real chef in the kitchen, refinement in the plates and in the decor. Excellent vegetarian menus.
Unique. Carefully prepared food. Talented attentive staff. Classical musical instruments. In 15 years of world travel I have never come across a place like it. Just go - it deserves success.
Surprised how empty this place was especially with how good the food was but it was a Thursday night. Was so good, really attentive and very good value for money considering what we ordered!
Good food, pricey, worth a look
Terrible experience! The food was bland and felt cheap . Extremely expensive. £65 for a 2 person set menu that included 10 total dumplings and 6 prawns. The dumplings felt soggy. I have tried better dumplings from a 3£ frozen packet from Tesco. Terrible experience would not recommend to anyone.
No request was granted, not even one. Not flexible with dishes, nor with tables. Their fried plate was not very good. The dumplings some were nice others not really. And no cards are accepted we had to withdraw cash....
Absolutely AMAZING food. So many vegan and vegetarian options. Was soooooo good. Best food experience in a very long time. Definitely go there! :)
Very good food. Tried the set menù 13 dishes to get of everything that is on the menu. It was delicious
Lovely restaurant ! The atmosphere inside is very good as the food. Good selection of vegetarian food . I would definitely recommend the spring rolls and Samosa
Glad theyre open again, and now they offer some sublime cocktails! Had not had such a gorgeous meal for quite a while. Staff are absolutely lovely as usual. Will be back!
What a wonderful evening! My friend and I just had a delicious meal, perfectly accompanied by such interesting conversation and learning from the restaurant staff. We enjoyed looking at and learning about lots of Chinese and other Asian antiques. I recommend anyone comes here!
Had an amazing experience at this restaurant. It feels very authentic inside and has a very elaborate menu - so many vegetarian and vegan options! There are quite a few pages in the menu too explaining the meaning of liutaio and the history around some of the dishes which I really enjoyed reading. The service was impeccable - our waitress was really friendly and helped us to navigate the many menu options. We chose the vegetarian tasting menu and each course came at the perfect time. Each dish was really delicious and we were VERY full by the end. Highly recommended.
Fantastic little restaurant with great live music, lovely tea and brilliant vegan dishes. Make sure you try their five spice, its amazing!
Here I was served some of the best dim sum Ive eaten outside of the Far East. All made to perfection in house. From Top left going clockwise: Duck mandu, glutinous rice packages, tofu & veg pouch, vegetable shitake buns. The duck had a wonderful strong flavour with the sticky pastry. Id never had rice steamed in that pastry before. It was brilliant. The tofu was mashed and delicately flavoured then wrapped perfectly in spongy tofu. Then soft cotton wool buns which had the perfect balance of mushrooms and greens within. I cant rate this place highly enough. Finished with a serving of sweet red bean buns. We couldnt resist. Great tea too. I noticed the waitress was the chef as she had flour on her mask. She was a little shocked when I asked if she made them herself. She said yes. All for £29/$40. I cant wait to go back and for the rest of the menu. The cafe also sold Chinese pillows which double as a locked box to store your valuables in while you sleep. The Chinese use soft western pillows now, Im assured. Good call.
Excellent food and service. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Loved the atmosphere and the antique collection that is available to purchase. We got many small things, the small boxes are really nice.
Very strange unpleasant experiences on 2 separate occasions. Terrible service, strange minimal fee imposed, felt unwelcome. Definitely, one of worst places in Cambridge I experienced and I lived here for 6 years. Not recommended.
Superb restaurant, lots of vegetarian/vegan options at affordable prices. Attentive staff and excellent service. Not a huge fan of Asian cuisine but this place is definitely worth a visit.
Amazing food and very nice people
We had a great experience here. We started with some of the cocktails which turned out to be very tasty and good looking. We then ordered the set menus for several people. It was a lot of tasty food. We had a feast! We were also very happy with the live music and the quality of the service. We got great advice from our lovely waiter. She was also very patient when explaining details about the food to the party members.
The only place in Cambridge that has vegan Dim Sum!! everything was delicious and the menu was explained when we were a little confused. Highly recommend the set menus since the price makes it worth it plus theres sooo much food that comes! just made experience great, walked away with very happy bellies.
Great place to go on the Mill road for all your vegan needs as well as the good food needs and pleasant vibes feel. Huge variety of homemade dishes for all preferences. Super friendly stuff and plenty of things to check out from antique stuff to collection of violins, and more. Relaxed atmosphere for everyone from individual dining to group hang outs. Check it out!
Plenty of delicious, fully plant-based meals. Very cosy interior design and friendly service. Can t wait to visit again!
Liutaio music restaurant is definitely one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. They have delicious food (extremely vegan-friendly), cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, and very fast service. I would recommend this to anyone!
Stumbled across the restaurant on google looking for local vegan Chinese food. Completely random find, to be honest we weren t expecting it to be as good as it actually was. The service was great, such lovely people. The food THE FOOD. Me and my partner are still in a food coma, i very rarely leave reviews but I literally couldn t live with myself if I didn t comment on this place. 100% will be returning regularly and have already told every vegan I know to go. I d give more than 5 stars if possible. Never had vegan food like it.
Wonderful experience. Taste was amazing, presentation impeccable and friendly professional service. Coming back with friends as soon as I have any.
Amazing food with great vegan and veggie options. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We all left very happy.
This place is amazing! They have so many vegan options and they even have a completely vegan set menu for two people that had a very good variety of their vegan items and a great price for the amount of food you get. The staff is super nice and attentive. We will definitely visit on more than one occasion
Excellent food. Amazing service. Lots of vegan options. I was completely stuffed! Wish I had taken photos!!
Unbelievable food, unique setting, super friendly staff, awesome blend of Asian cultures and cuisines. Too good
Real hidden gem on Mill Road! One of the best Chinese restaurants in Cambridge
Best Asian food Ive eaten outside London, really fantastic food and amazing Cocktails.
Very good food, excellent Vegan options with a super filling set menu for £52 for two people. Waitresses were fantastic
Lovely range of food (including many vegan dim sum options!) and friendly staff - well be returning to sample more of the menu and the live music night!
Cool traditional music, attentive staff and tasty food, all kept simple, loved it!
Fantastic food and a wonderful host, definitely coming again!
This is my favourite place to go to in Cambridge! The food is so tasty, satisfying and filling, the decor is beautiful and the atmosphere is very friendly. They sometimes have live music, which really adds to the experience. Honestly cant praise this place enough, its such a hidden gem and I really hope more people try it.
I just tried to book a table for two people, and i asked about the menu because we wanted to try different dishes and choice for ourselves , but they said I can only buy and eat the menu they have already that is between £40 and £59 , so they have big menu with a lot of options but you can just eat whatever they want you to eat and for that reason they didnt want to make a booking for me. Shame..
Lovely food and service. Cash needed
excellent service and amazing food. we always go there with friends and we all enjoy the meal there.
Delicious, inexpensive and the shop has a great atmosphere. We got the Silk Road Dim Sum set menu, and there was just the right amount of food, all of which was great.
Nice restaurant/shop of music instruments and antiques, the food is chinese and its tasty (mostly fried) and theres a large choice of discesses that can really suits your needs. Cons after few hours Ive eaten there Ive had pain to my stomach for about two days, cannot surely say was the food but Ill keep my eyes opened next time Ill go. FINAL GRADE : D+
Saturday evening, we had reserved, but the place was empty. Good service, some pleasant live music by a young lady playing chinese instrument (10% added to the bill on live music evenings, so £24 for music). We had pre-ordered - dim sum, followed by spiced pork. A wide range of lovely food was delivered promptly to our table, in dishes to share. Some vegetarian, some chicken or prawn or pork. Everything was delicious - a vast range of different flavours. Altogether a lovely meal. Expensive, though, and only one sort of beer. Cash only, but ATM across the road. Still empty when we left, sad.
Loved it - food was excellent, staff polite and attentive. Impressed by the range of vegan options, and the care taken in labelling which dishes are spicy.
Now one of my favourite places in Cambridge! I went here to celebrate my friends birthday in December. It was brilliant. We decided to have an array vegan dim sum, and sides. It was so delicious, the food was of high quality and you could really taste that. Most of the dim sum is made in house every day. Even the drinks were lovely (we had smoothies)! For desert we had the mochi and apple dumplings and they were fab. Considering the standard of the food, we were happy to pay as much as we did (£25 per head), its medium-high price! We spent 4 hours there, slowly eating and chatting, the staff were very friendly in letting us stay that long! Great place to go for special meals. There is also a small shop of South East Asian wonders, which we had a look around. Beware: the restaurant and shop only take cash! Luckily there is a cash machine directly opposite!
Great food and good price along with nice music
Great food and ambiance
Great little restaurant! Tonnes of vegan options and the flavours were amazing. Service was reasonably quick and the server was very accommodating in answering our questions about some of the menu items. Highly recommended!
Unreal food. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it.
Excellent food. I know its a music cafe but music a bit too loud, however great. But very difficult to talk
Amazing ambience and their tea is absolutely spectacular (I could drink their burdock glacé all day though also dont because its a diuretic). Ive asked if its possible to purchase the tea to brew on your own but they literally get it from a Chinese medicine supplier so its legit stuff and tea that you really cant get anywhere else locally. Also very impressive selection of vegan food. Its very open and quiet during the afternoon and a great place to sit and journal with some tea.
Really enjoyed some lovely dimsum, pickled pakchoi and seaweed salad. They also sell antiques and we left with a very reasonably priced beautiful box plus a free fan and hand made card. Second visit here and will definitely come back. Thank you!
Wonderful food and lovely decor. Be sure to check it out, I ll definitely be back if I m in the area.
Amazing food
This is definitely not an average Chinese restaurant. Im just sad we cannot eat in these days because the place itself is gorgeous. The food is fantastic, they are the best at deep frying honestly. Totally totally recommended.
Great place for dim sum. We had the set lunch menu and was great value.. The restaurant was a little cold my partner had to keep her coat on... Was a great find and would definitely go back
Quite delicious!
Good food at reasonable prices. Service was slightly slow but probably good that they are cooking from scratch. Had the udon noodles with pork and wife cake.
This place does not serve vegan food. Unless you don t mind the same knives and fryer etc being used for meat and your vegan meal?
Nice idea behind. Lovely music. But prices are too high.
What a wonderful place. Great food, great atmosphere.
Realy good place to eat
Great lunch deal with plenty of vegan choices. Always satisfied.
Dim Sum are delicious here. I also recommend the vegan main courses, and the fresh juices. Served with a smile
Great place. Food is so tasty with generous portion sizes. Staff are great and the premium teas excellent. Staff bringing iced water at the end of the meal was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend trying the dim sum.
Good food (loved the pork & coriander dim sum!). The double cooked pork belly turned out to be spicy, but this wasnt listed as such on the menu. We really couldnt stomach it. Fortunately, we were offered to choose a new dish, which we very much appreciated. Do keep in mind that you can only pay with cash.
Yummy dim sum lunch menu.
Here for vegan dinner with omnivore friends. The food is great, but what makes this place truly magical is the music. Playing the piano and the Chinese traditional zither (guzheng!) just creates such a tranquil and deep sensation. Very highly recommended!
The food was fantastic and the waitress super kind.
They do nice Dim Sums
Vegan and Vegetarian Options WHAT I HAD: Har Gow (4 Pcs) [£4.30], Vegan Mandu (4 Pcs) [£3.50], Spicy Bamboo Shoot Salad with nuts (Vegan) [£5.00], White Bait meets White Bait [£8.00], Taro and Ginko in Green Curry (Vegan) [£10.00], Vegan Karaage Bento [£9.00 Set Lunch with Cold Drink] A wide variety of snacks and meals ranging from dim sums to noodles and main meals, all handmade! They specialise in teas and Dim Sum, and offer great deals of set meals for one person and groups. Also, a surprising amount of vegan options too! So, I definitely recommend it for vegan and non-vegans looking for fresh, delicious and affordable variety of Chinese food for any time of the day! The Dim Sum is good (dumplings have some room for improvement but still great)! The side dishes and main meals are fresh, quality and well cooked, and I love that they use ingredients not commonly found in the typical Chinese food fare (i.e. Gingko, Prickly Ash etc.) that is a breath of fresh air especially for the vegan options as it goes beyond the usual tofu and mushrooms! The staff of this mostly family run restaurant is friendly and warm, they are also very flexible to requests. I love the eclectic décor that although it is mainly Chinese antiques, somehow still has a contemporary feel to it, perhaps due to the minimal design and well-spaced seating. The ambience is a mix of cosy and classy, a place I also love spending time at even if it s just enjoying some snacks with a pot of tea while people watching and taking in the beautiful antiques (some of which are for sale) in the store. I also heard that they have musical entertainment at night.
deep fried tofu black bean sauce. no live music on the sunday i went but good hospitality
Overpriced for what it is imo
Attention: cash only.
One of the best cocktails Ive had! They do darn good food too!
Nice experience! :) live music and tasty food
Splendid in every way.....
Liutaio is one of my Mill Road favourites. Always warmly welcomed and service is friendly. I love the dim sum but have also had their other dishes, most recently the stir fry with garlic mixed vegetables, which were fresh and delicious. I love the ginger & honey tea too. There is live music on some evenings. They add a small charge but it s worth it for such wonderful entertainment. It s a unique place and it s inspiring to be surrounded by beautiful musical instruments.
Loved this place! We went on a Saturday evening and it was super quiet (just us there) until a party came in. Serving staff was happy to just let us be but super attentive when called over. We had the dim sum (great siu mai) and a main, with some custard steamed buns to top it off. Food was delicious but also felt healthy and not too greasy. They have a great selection of teas and some great wines to chose from if you want an alcoholic beverage. The chinese zither being played live in the background definitely adds to the atmosphere. Check out their website for their lunchtime deals!
Nice local eaterie in Cambridge with friendly staff & decent food.
