Midsummer Common, Cambridge CB4 1HA, United Kingdom
Nestled on the banks of the River Cam, Daniel Clifford’s iconic riverside restaurant is synonymous with inventiveness, originality and passion and has a well-earned reputation for creating remarkable and unforgettable culinary experiences.
Loved it. Unpretentious and thoroughly indulged by superb food and gracious service.
This is was an experience well worth the price tag. I live near this restaurant and walk by it every day. From the outside it looks nice but unassuming and on the inside it is much the same. However, it is like nested dolls, when you think that is it there is still more. I loved it. I left the experience feeling like I had spent the day at a spa. The food was delicious but also interesting. My favourite was the pigeon leg because it was very evocative. For the taste I loved the first course and the bread. My husband and I finished the meal with digestives and coffee upstairs in the parlour and it was perfect. Of course the service was exceptional but it was also unpretentious. I was expecting it to be very posh and stuffy even, but it was not. There was a homey atmosphere to the restaurant and to the service. I enjoyed every second and I highly recommend trying this place at least once.
Fantastic setting by the river. The food was exactly what we were expecting with such a high reputation. Very nice to sit next to the window looking into the kitchen.
Food with the quality of Blancs & the imagination of Blumenthal combining for a truly memorable tasting menu. We could not have had a nicer evening, service personable & down to earth while remaining highly professional. Katie went over & above every step of the way, & it was an absolute honour to step into the kitchen & meet Liam who made time for us after a long shift. Can’t wait to go back. Don’t hesitate - book in.
The location of Midsummer House seems a mystery to Cambridge taxi drivers, but once located, our evening properly started. Each course of the superb tasting menu was fabulous in its own way and the paired wines (from France, Spain, Greece, Romania to name a few) perfectly complemented the courses. We were royally looked after by all the staff, but in particular Katie, Constantine and Gonzalez who clearly have a passion for providing a great customer experience. Many thanks also to chef Liam who, at the end of his chef, had two diners in for a tour of the immaculate kitchen. He was, as the others, as knowledgeable as he was personable. Just wonderful, thank you!
Visited for my boyfriends, mums 70th. We had a great time. The food was obviously delicious, and the service was great. The staff were happy to take themselves not too seriously. Only criticism was that some of the servers spoke very quietly, which was tricky for those of us without perfect hearing.
Exciting food, very high quality presentation and outstanding service . Phenomenal experience to choose the Tasting Menu, a delicacy indeed. It's a unique restaurant in its category, definitely worth a detour ! "Chapeau" for everyone involved to make our anniversary special, thank you !
Amazing as usual. Cambridge’s local Michelin is well worth dining at at least once in your life. If you haven’t dined here you’re missing out! Well worth the cost. Ambience is perfect — quiet and comfortable. Nice for a date or business meeting. Favorite dish is their constant — the apple shaped beignets are to die for. Also their gift bag carrot cake…
Phenomenal setting for any special occasion. The food and service are excellent. Some of the best food and wine I have ever had.
Best restaurants in Cambridge Michelin two stars There are apple elements everywhere in the restaurant Including the appearance or taste of apples, the main course is mutton, which tastes good and does not have the fishy smell of mutton. The butter and meal bags are quite satisfactory. The small dessert bread of a normal Michelin restaurant is dipped in pure apple sauce and is sour and sweet. Its delicious to eat applesauce without adding any sugar, which is very refreshing. The last caramel lollipop was given, with caramel on the outside and apple inside.
The food was out of this world and each course a work of art crafting wonderful combinations of flavours. The service was very attentive, helpful and extremely knowledgable though a very small number staff are rather transactional in the way they share explanations and reluctant to repeat or expand on very fast and quiet first introduction on a course. The wine was superb with an excellent team of sommeliers. It is very hard to put a finger on it but we agree with those who noted a somewhat cool atmosphere in the space. We were very privileged to round off our wonderful evening with a behind the scenes look at the kitchen. Thank you to Liam for the time he took to chat to us at the end of a very long day!
This review is only for Chinese tourists and does not represent any dissatisfaction with the restaurant. This restaurant has two Michelin stars, but unlike in China, this is a place for chatting and eating. If you are just here to eat, it is not suitable for you. The average serving time of each dish is 10-15 minutes. After each dish, you have to sit and wait. The entire meal takes 2-2.5 hours, so think carefully. Also, don t rely on the taste and portion size of the Michelin-starred Chinese food you ve had in China to think that the two-Michelin-starred Chinese food here will give you a better experience. To be honest, personally, I would rather go eat a Roujiamo. This just represents my own taste. I am not used to this kind of food. It does not mean there is anything wrong with the restaurant.
Got the tasting menu, it was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We had the best time.
Incredible Michelin restaurant. Loved it
My husband booked for a surprise birthday and wedding anniversary treat. We have eaten in 2&3 star Michelin restaurants previously and yes there were cards on the table wising us happy returns but nothing mentioned or anything else which other establishments try to do. It was as though the menu was adhered to and whatever the celebration anything extra was too much trouble or effort. Visiting a place like this is for a reason, yes good food but also to remember the celebration and for a good ambiance . We have in the past had Happy Birthday written in chocolate or a mini cake! Even staff going that extra mile. Also the dress code was not upheld, people in jeans and mobile phones out the whole time we were there!!
Very nice place to be . And nice staff
Best place amazing food recommended
Amazing place and staff
Visited Midsummer House for my Aunts 60th Birthday. The staff were very friendly and the food was exceptional! A real treat for a special occasion.
We had the best experience here at Midsummer House, friendly staff and lovely service
Pleasant food and drinks served by lovely and friendly set of staff in a cosy and lovely restaurant. I will surely come back again!
Superb food, superb staff. The dining room has poor acoustics so the table of loud Americans dominated the room. We didnt know that cabs cant pull up outside and it was pouring with rain as we made our way from the cab to the restaurant, hence we arrived drenched. We had lunch, opting for an extra cheese based course which was one of the best things ever Ive tasted. The lunch courses kept coming, each one small but delicious. By the end of the meal, we were replete. On leaving, we were given a bag with apple muffins in. We are them for late tea and they were delicious, triggering memories of lunch. A special treat. Thanks Parking: You cant park or even stop near... Take umbrellas
Lovely place to spend a weekend, highly recommended!
**A Memorable Evening at Midsummer House** Taking my wife to Midsummer House for a surprise dinner was one of the best decisions I ve made. The picturesque location by the River Cam set the stage for a romantic evening. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable warm, attentive, and unobtrusive. The tasting menu was a culinary journey, with each course more impressive than the last. The attention to detail in both presentation and flavour was extraordinary. My wife was particularly delighted by the exquisite desserts, which were as beautiful as they were delicious. The wine pairings were perfect, enhancing each dish without overpowering them. The sommelier s recommendations were spot on, adding to the overall experience. The ambiance was intimate and sophisticated, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. We left Midsummer House feeling thoroughly pampered and will cherish the memory of this evening. I highly recommend this gem for anyone looking to celebrate a special moment with a loved one.
Awful don t eat here and they pay for their 5 star reviews!!!!!!! SHOCKING

Just met and I see friendliness and excellent service in the place
Midsummer House is a restaurant I highly recommend for a special dinner. The combination of excellent food, impeccable service and elegant atmosphere makes this restaurant a must. I cant wait to return!
Optimal! Advised!
Superb service and loved the food
Great place for dinner excellent service
Excellent location excellent food I recommend it
Amazing opportunity to dine and enjoy a beautiful venue & location
Food, service and atmosphere all 5 stars, its an excellent Michelin star restaurant. However, youve got to be prepared to pay an absolute fortune to dine here, especially for the dinner. Factor in there are extra non advertised dishes that will bump up the price even further. The food is very, very good, but having visited restaurants working towards a Michelin star, Ive certainly had much better value for money. The lunch is perhaps a better option for most but considering that its not in an excellent position, next to a Greene King pub, I cant say its quite good enough to warrant what it charges. We had a great night, but its a small mortgage to eat here and that just doesnt feel right.
If I could give them 6 stars I would. Thanks for having the wedding party
I had an awful experience with Midsummer House. My family went for lunch to celebrate my dad and husband s birthdays. Following the meal, I emailed Midsummer House with some serious concerns. I was very disappointed with their poor customer service that followed. I emailed them to share my concerns before leaving a review and I was absolutely shocked at their response. They said that my intention to leave a review was by itself a threat and made it clear they would start legal action if I made any slanderous statements, and that they will try to remove my review. I asked for nothing in my email, and felt their response could have been more sympathetic and less attacking. An overall very disappointing experience and I will never return.
Great food, great hotel, fantastic rooms. Would recommend
Service was excellent from start to finish
You wont believe the delicious food that the restaurant prepares! Its simply amazing!
Midsummer House Restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment you step through the door, you re transported to a world of culinary delight. The attention to detail in every dish is truly remarkable. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, and the service is impeccable, making every guest feel like royalty. Whether you re celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself, Midsummer House is an unforgettable dining experience that deserves accolades. I will definitely be going back there .
Found this little gem and was not disappointed. I loved the food, surroundings and atmosphere. Great for birthdays etc. Highly recommend!

Very good restaurant, flavour are out of my imagination, fair price.
Excellent food at very reasonable price.
Excellent all round, food great and service excellent
Had a really relaxing time, staff were excellent. Thanks Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food : 5/5 |
Amazing experience
Absolutely fine dining at its best. Super cozy atmosphere and brilliant attentive staff.
Excellent cooking, almost certainly the best in Cambridge. However, it s really very expensive. Expect to spend £250 per person at lunch, and £350 at supper if you re fairly restrained on the drinks. Markups are sky high, and the amounts in the wine pairings felt very stingy. Having said all this, the food was almost flawless. Is it worth the money - that s up to you.
Dietary restrictions: They will accommodate most anything and provide you with wonderful options. Food
Delicious food with fresh products and beautiful decoration. The price tag is affordable. Cosy atmosphere and hospitable staff. We recommend visiting this place at least once)!
Amazing experience, wonderful food and very attentive service.
I have been to different Michelin stars restaurants around the world, I had to say this is the worst one. We waited outside of the house for more than 10 min because no one answered the door. All dishes taste mediocre, service is horrible - no one fold your napkin when you leave the seat, for quite a long time our water glass is empty and no one noticed it. Wondering how did this restaurant get the stars. Since most customers are not coloured I suspect racism. One of the dishes had a bug in it, I immediately asked to have it return to the kitchen. When we get the bill it was full price, I asked the waiter what do they usually do when there is a bug in the dish. The waiter said I already said sorry . The wine pairing was pretty good though. I totally agree with one of the other review here: overpriced nonsense.
Just love this place, we always feel very spoilt to go here. This is the first time we have been for lunch as we usually go in the evening, the experience was equally as pleasant. The staff were (as always) friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We did test the sommelier regarding our taste in wine, he came up with the perfect solution. Amazing food and theatre in the presentation. We will see you next year.
A nice experience but certainly a couple underwhelming dishes on the testing menu
Deserves its 2 stars - a stunning experience Dietary restrictions: Happy to change the menu to be gluten free. Food : 5/5 |
Utterly exquisite food. Lovely building. Superb staff and service. It is just such a shame, given its location right on the river and common, you cannot see either! That aside this is, without doubt (and taking into account my 5 star dining experiences in London, around the UK and overseas) the best cuisine I have experienced. Divine
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Cannot fault it. The very best.
So expensive but so good. If youre happy to pay this much for a meal, youll get an amazing tasting menu with perfect service.
Spectacular! Thoroughly recommended for a special evening out with world-class food. My mum and I visited Midsummer House in December and enjoyed the tasting menu. We had an absolutely fantastic experience. The setting is beautiful, warm, and inviting on a very cold evening. The restaurant staff are equally as warm and made us feel a million dollars over the course of the evening. All were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, indulged our every question, and made us laugh! A shout out to Harry who looked after us for most of the evening but everyone was wonderful. And then to the food. Absolutely stunning. Delicious, surprising, tasty, and exceptional quality. The best Michelin-star restaurant experience I have had. Im looking forward to returning in the summer to enjoy lunch in the garden. Thank you to all the amazing team at Midsummer House. You made us very happy.
Previously the best restaurant in the East, I think meadowsweet pips it now although midsummer feels more of a special occasion place. The latest prices certainly enforce that.
Phenomenal
Superb Parking: No dedicated parking at the restaurant but plant of parking spaces (80p per 30mins) on Aylestone Road Food : 5/5 |
What a truly amazing experience. Without doubt the food is at the highest levels possible. But it s the staff at Midsummer House that makes the difference. Many, many thanks for an amazing lunch. We ll be back for sure!
It was my husbands birthday and we love the experience of Michelin Star Restaurants. We have visited many in this country and abroad and this is up there as one of the best. For us the whole experience from a welcome arrival, beautifully presented and delicious food and attention to detail service is important as you are not going for a meal, you are going for a three hour gastronomic experience. Midsummer House delivers this in spades. The food is out of this world - an explosion in the mouth, the presentation is outstanding and looks almost too good to eat. I eat with my eyes first and what we love about this type of dining is that the food is presented totally different to what you would expect. For example the Cheese on Toast looks nothing like you would expect but as you bit into it you can taste all the flavours you would expect but at an intense level. The best Michelin Star restaurants should evoke good memories and experiences from your life and the dish that did this for me was the Chicken Wing with Smoked Candyfloss. As I bit into the candyfloss and it stuck to the front of my teeth the memory from my childhood of going to the Fair with my parents and eating a bag of candyfloss sprung to mind - something I had not thought about for many years. Great memory which brought my parents to mind and a smile to my face. The wine paring is excellent and the Sommeliers are so knowledgable and attentive, my husband had the non-alcoholic paring which I have never seen before and every glass was designed by Chef Patron Daniel Clifford and the Head Chef Mark Abbott to work well with the food - they were delicious and unique to this restaurant. Last but not least a bit shout out to the staff who were amazing, very professional, friendly and attentive, They were happy to spend time with us. We were very fortunate to be given a guided tour of the kitchen and met Mark Abbott and his team which was an excellent finish to an amazing experience. Will definitely go back - Highly recommended
I don t usually write reviews, but our recent visit deserved it. The dishes, and especially the soft pairing, were incredible, and our server Liam deserves a special mention. Will definitely plan to come back the next time we re in Cambridge. Thank you for such a lovely evening!
Incredible from start to finish
Had an extremely pleasant evening but for the price I expected a bit more. The food was outstanding as you would expect, but the day was let down by the atmosphere and service. We visited Midsummer on Saturday arriving a little early and we took a drink in the seating area upstairs (The Lounge). The drink selection was quite odd here as there was only 2 cocktails and mainly spirits, which before dinner is unusual. We were invited to an aperitif but there was nothing on the menu to that affect. However, the décor in this area was sublime. After finishing our drink we headed downstairs for our meal. We opted for the wine pairing when we booked online and had to state we were still doing this, this should have been seamless. Whilst each serving of wine was generous, it was actually too much and we left quite inebriated. Our courses then arrived thick and fast. The food was a triumph, my only complaint was there was a lot of similar textures (lots of jellied dishes). However these are minor complaints. What I did not enjoy was the fact there was a dress code of smart casual and hardly any of the guests adhered to it. Someone was wearing a full designer tracksuit! This cheapened the experience and was disappointing to say the least. On top of this, the waiting staff clearly didnt know enough about the dishes to respond other than what was on their script.
My partner and I were very much looking forward to Midsummer House, as we often look for fine dinning opportunities when we travel. In most cases, weve recalled our experiences with memories of several dishes that mark our dinner exceptional. We found each dish at Midsummer House to be at a high standard, but not uncommon. On balance, we were pleased by the non-alcoholic pairing, although it is of concern that this is the element to stand out. After we had settled our check and left the restaurant, we were chased down for an additional payment after we were out the door. We were unpleasantly surprised by the embarrassment of making a second payment over a glass of wine on a £750 meal, and it draws into question the value of the accolades that this restaurant in particular has received.
This is the third time we have visited Midsummer House. The service was impeccable. The tasting menu was of high standards.
Amazing food! Very good service.
We enjoyed a culinary symphony at Midsummer House. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The nature-inspired presentations were works of art, and the thoughtful wine selections only elevated the dining experience. Wed love to return every season and get inspired. Thank you for such a delightful experience and the sourdough ;-)
What to say about the Midsummer House? This quiet culinary respite is delicious, beautiful, and well served by all staff. The number of courses (with amazing and well-executed wine pairings) can take you over three hours to go through, leaving plenty of time to digest, relax, and have conversations in-between. The only way this place falters is in its soundproofing, given s larger party across from you, expect those more intoxicated persons may interject their conversation over your own. The price you pay monetarily is high, but it will be worth the night that you will never forget.
Wonderful. Staff are amazing and always go the extra mile. They love their jobs and their service is incredible. Tasting menu was a great experience, clearly Midsummer House has the reputation it deserves. If you like Masterchef, youll have a great time One improvement would be to include the service charge in the displayed prices.
We booked to have lunch as a couple with a newborn baby and paid £150 booking fee. The restaurant cancelled our booking on the grounds that children are not allowed, despite not indicating this clearly on their booking page. What is important is that they charged us £20 for rejecting our booking. Appalling service, rude staff, never again. Kid-friendliness: Children under 12 not allowed. This was not clearly indicated on their booking page, and they retained £20 for cancelling our booking.
Had such a special time at Midsummer House on 12/05/23. Adventurous, playful tasting menu and wine pairing. Every course was a 10/10 with the salmon course, the duck course and the Thai green curry inspired dessert being the stand outs. Stunning surroundings, lovely atmosphere and every member of the front of house team going above and beyond to make the evening memorable. Arthur in particular deserves a mention - he was incredibly kind and knowledgeable and made sure everything was perfect all through the meal.
I m going to just put this down to an off day for them as it s my first trip here. Stopped in for lunch last Thursday and the service so incredibly disjointed to say the least. The menu was requested twice (tasting or not I still like to be reminded of what I am eating) but never materialised. My friend wasn t drinking and I didn t want the wine flight and found the by the glass options very limited. The salmon I believe looked farmed which is their flagship dish (I might be wrong). My friend had a non alcoholic drink to start and not once did anyone ask if he would like another? His glass stood empty for hours on the table. Two stars? Not in a million years based on this experience, however as I said it might be just one of those rare off days? However the covers were no where near half full so maybe it wasn t? Disappointing as I travelled far to try this iconic restaurant
I brought my father here for his birthday the other week and its safe to say that we were very satisfied and impressed, especially with the creativity and uniqueness of the chefs cuisine. The service was essentially faultless; the dining room was very pleasant and should appeal to everyone. We had some of the most experimental and bravest dishes we had ever come across. Some canapés, including one made to resemble a strawberry, when actually made from duck liver and pepper, featured. This was great, with a perfect sweet and salty flavour, with a little added smokiness from the pepper. A juicy and tender chicken wing was also lovely, though I feel there wasnt a need to wrap it in candy floss. The rabbit gougère was utterly gorgeous. The oyster dish with passionfruit and jalapenos was full of flavour, and the tanginess of the passionfruit and peppers complimented the oyster very well. The Cambridgeshire asparagus was vibrant and fresh, with a good extra flavour provided by the cocoa nibs. Beside it was a fabulous, frothy and warm velouté-like drink made from asparagus and mushrooms, it was a real shame it ended in a few mouthfuls! The salmon with white chocolate and caviar, although sounding mad, was one of the best dishes, both in terms of flavour and texture. The salmon was beautifully cooked. The white chocolate sauce wasnt too sweet and paired nicely with the smokiness and saltiness of the fish and caviar. In my opinion, this was a dish where brave experimenting had paid off. The Yorkshire duck was tender and rich. It was just what you would want from a duck dish. The IPA sorbet with Cathedral cheese was one of the most exciting and original courses of the night. This was absolutely phenomenal. The combination of the mature, strong flavour of the cheese with the sweet and slightly bitter flavour of the IPA was just brilliant. The main dessert titled Coriander Dome was even more spectacular. A simple looking coriander chocolate dome was packed full of various ingredients associated with Thai desserts, such as mango, coconut and lemongrass. Within seconds, my mouth was packed with an assortment of delightful, tropical and herbal flavours. This was very much Thai-inspired. I loved it very much. I would love to try other versions of this dessert! Meeting Daniel Clifford (chef-patron), Mark Abbott (chef de cuisine) and their team at the end brought the meal to a perfect close. This was a nice birthday dinner for my father. Thank you for the great evening!
Fantastic lunch...beautiful food and attentive, informative service.
My Dad and I had an amazing meal here, probably the best weve had together. It is very expensive, even compared to other two stars and some three but in my opinion very much worth it for the food. The service additionally was fantastic I suppose the wine pairing seemed over priced if I am to be critical. The Sommelier was engaging, fun and knowledgeable but some of the wines themselves although delicious, didnt seem so worth the money. This is shadowed by the 5 star experience and we were happy to pay (next time though we may purchase a bottle or two instead).
We had an absolutely stunning evening at Midsummer House enjoying the tasting experience. From arrival through to departure and everything in between, we couldn t fault it. The food is stunning; beautifully presented with lots of unusual ingredients, unfamiliar flavours and some absolute classics. The sommelier was such good fun, so knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations, and the waiting staff we equally as delightful, quick-witted and attentive. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to experience fine dining for a special occasion. Thank you so much! A top tip; order a coffee or tea at the end of your meal!
An absolutely gorgeous gem nestled on the side of the Cam. A special treat dinner was everything we hoped it would be and more. Literally everything and everybody on point from start to finish. Wonderful.
We went for my girlfriend s birthday dinner. Service was outstanding from start to finish, with conversation around the inspiration and development of each menu course. There were options for pescatarians and also a cocktail pairing menu for non-alcoholic drinkers. Do book in advance due to popularity!
One of the best meals I have ever had. Both the food and the service were impeccable. This is a must go place when in Cambridge.
Amazing food from beginning to end. This was the lunchtime taster menu. We started off with 4 amazing canapés & then each course after with incredible flavours to try & finish off with a good old fashion cup of tea. I belive this is the only restaurant in the East of England with 2 Michelin stars.
Exceptional restaurant. Food prepared with imagination and expertise perfectly. Great service by very informed servers. Dont miss out on a fabulous experience.
midsummer_house is a 2 Michelin star Victoria era river side cottage in the heart of Cambridge. Serving some incredibly beautiful French meals. It was the best culinary experience I have ever had in my life and I would recommend going if you have a special occasion coming up as it s on the pricier side but it is worth every penny. We later slipped into the lounge area with some spectacular views of the River Cam and was given the absolute honour of looking behind the scenes in the kitchen! Absolutely unforgettable experience!
I have to say we found the current tasting menu really underwhelming. I think maybe 2 or 3 of the dishes were really good but all the rest were really hard to like. The ideas were great but they didn t deliver on taste. The pigeon dish was extremely disappointing and lacked seasoning as well which was a surprise. I kept eating thinking there must be something on the plate to season it and it just didn t come. I wish I had asked for some salt ! Splitting a scallop and putting truffle slices inside sounds great but does it make that scallop taste better ? Not for me. I have no problem paying out a lot of money for a mind blowing experience but this really fell short in my opinion. I can t fault the service or the setting but weeks down the line and I m still really disappointed that what I thought would be an amazing culinary experience was so utterly flat. I have to say I feel quite robbed. It s as though they are carried away with serving technically difficult dishes but have forgotten the basics that all customers want. Restaurant 22 is 10 times better
What no one can deny is that restaurants are among the most beautiful places where we can go and enjoy our time. When we are on the weekend we go with our family or with friends . Also, on holidays and at the end of the year, there are no places better than restaurants to go to. There are many types of restaurants and each of us has his favorite restaurant in which he relaxes and likes to go to. Some of us go to a restaurant that serves fast food like pizza and hamburgers. Some of us like restaurants that offer home food, such as rice, chicken and meats of all kinds. As for me, I like to go to a restaurant that serves home food.
Incredible experience. Each course was absolutely perfect. Wine pairings were exquisite. Waiters are so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Really Can not recommend highly enough. You need to experience this place.
This place is fantastic! The food is an explosion of all the different flavours packed into a small bundle! All the descriptions for both wine and food were spot on! The chef and staff were incredibly kind and were very quick with the services. The view inside the kitchen was amazing. I was able to even see hardcore sanitizing after using a cooking station. They gave me a good bag on the way out. This place by far was the best tasting and kindest that I have ever been to!
An absolute high point for dining. This place took us to the Pinnacle of fine food and the best part was meeting Mark Abbott to hear about the philosophy and backstory of the restaurant.
Wow! What a lunch. Amazing food, brilliant service - completely blown away by the whole experience
Fantastic meal and impeccable service. Absolutely loved the seasonal menu and cant wait to go back again
A group of 12 dined in the private room. The food was exquisite, the service excellent and being in the room rounded off an excellent experience. Yes it is pricy but when you consider the effort that goes into making each individual course it really isnt unreasonable. Our vegetarians and individual preferences were well catered for. Vegetarian options: It is a taster menu so no choice of individual dishes but our vegetarians were very happy. Dietary restrictions: They were very accommodating.
Heating issue was a problem. Minus degrees on Saturday with 2 babies is not acceptable, leaking from under kitchen sink heaters were delivered that blew electricity . I get it s an old house but you should ve been on the ball . We fixed dodgy door that didn t close in conservatory?? Leaking toilet downstairs, and had to sort out heating basically on our own . Luckily we had blokes that could sort some stuff . But hopefully the next family there have better luck with the heating than we did good luck
Fabulous taster menu, about 18 courses that were perfectly balanced to avoid any feelings of overload. We had the cheaper wine pairing and each was seriously good. It ranks as one of the finest dining experiences ever, every course was sublime. There were 5 of us in the private dining room and I think others may find it a bit atmospherically cold, thankfully were a reasonably lively, not rowdy, group and it was fine. Arthur, our waiter and sommelier, was a triumph. Very expensive but when you see the detail in every course you understand why. A magnificent treat.
What can you say about this place besides spectacular. Obviously the food is first class but the personal service and location really top it off
From the moment the front door was opened... Beautiful dishes, great wine pairing, excellent service
Theyve just added a new pairing menu of alcohol free infusions. These are amazing and are designed to go with each dish. I actually think they are better than the wines. Food as always is delicious
Out of this world experience for my brothers 50th birthday
Disappointing. Tried to use a £100 voucher I d bought for my parents, but the manager made it too difficult for us to use it. Lesson learned.
Exceptional food and service!
Good food and service. However BEWARE, one member of our party had to cancel last minute due to COVID, and we were charged the full price for even though we informed at arrival. We were not informed that we would be charged for missing person or given the option to have the extra meal that we paid for. It s a big shame. One would expect a bit more understanding and upfront behavior from such a fine establishment. Left a bitter taste in the end to what was a good experience. Would have been a big fan and returned often but as greet is the main motive of the the owners will never return!
Exceptional.
Incredibly underwhelming experience if I am honest. 5/9 courses were fish based, which was not to my liking at all as I don t like fish - ( but worth noting others in the group love fish and still didn t enjoy any of it). I ve been to a few Michelin star establishments and I ve never had to endure more than half the menu with fish dishes The non alcoholic wine pairings were frankly quite disgusting, and for the most part undrinkable, and there were no empty glasses there. Probably well worth sharing that 3/4 of our group have openly expressed their disappointment in the experience so it wasn t just a personal preference either. It wasn t for me unfortunately. Had there been things on the menu I genuinely enjoyed (the asparagus course was nice tbf) sure, we wouldn t be here as it was lovely theatre albeit a scripted delivery from the staff, but an experience was there to be had. I would even over-look the non alcoholic pairing wine experiment had that been the case, but given the general disappointment with almost all of it, I felt compelled to share the feedback which was to be duly noted . Then I had a call from the business manager Nicole to query my feedback and I felt it was right to see what they might come forward with to ensure we were left with a positive impression, but we ended up in a pointless conversation of her saying they change the menu all the time (unlucky me) did offer meat* - see below, and I must have enjoyed it all because the plates were clean . Now what I didn t pass to anyone who wanted it delicately and discretely, I did sit there politely and eat it to ensure I didn t ruin the experience for everyone at our table and around us, by making a scene. *The 2 meat dishes claimed were offered were the duck liver and pigeon, which id argue is offle and game respectively, but I am certainly not an expert so looks like sleeping dogs will be allowed to lie on that one. I expected them to do more about our shared disappointment and give some incentive to come back, given the menu does change I would have been prepared to come back when there s something more broadly to my liking available, but post my conversation with Nicole that won t be happening, but Nicole did assure me she looks forward to reading my review, so I hope it doesn t disappoint. Having read some of the other reviews fair to say it stinks of greed and pretence here guys. Would avoid and certainly do not recommend. Some of these reviews though provide some solace as I am not the only one to take a dim view! :)
Simply amazing
The waiting staff have us stellar service. They are very knowledgeable and caring, and make it look like a very relaxed environment. The chefs are quick to serve food and they execute it to perfection. The food presentation is amazing and food taste is so good I cannot find appropriate words to describe it. Separate components of the dish and they altogether sing perfectly in the mouth. The place is lovely and I enjoyed watching birds. Dietary restrictions: I requested pescaterian food without alcohol and I got it. It was as good as the alternative, I think!
This was a fine dining culinary experience on a barmy July summer s evening, the fusion of flavours, textures and presentation from Daniel Clifford s team was well worthy of the two proudly coveted Michelin stars. The wine pairing was an educational journey punctuated by the good humour of the sommelier. The expression if you have to ask the price, then you cannot afford it is very apt. However parting with a King s ransom is well worth the endeavour. Friendly knowledgeable staff, fantastic cuisine, an intimate dining occasion which will never fail to disappoint if you choose to invest. Well done all, you made me and my partner very happy upon our engagement celebration.
This was our first ever two Michelin Star restaurant (which we booked for our first wedding anniversary), and despite our fears and anxieties beforehand regarding cost and whether it would be worth it it definitely was! The step up from one to two stars was noticeable and while it was eye wateringly expensive I think it would feel commensurate with any significant celebration. Can t wait to come back for our 5th anniversary (or as soon as we can afford it).
Such a fantastic evening! Thanks to the whole team, front of house and back, for an incredible dining and culinary experience. The food was creative, innovative and attractive. The flavours were divine and every member of staff treated us beautifully. Thanks again!
We felt so welcomed on arrival, loved the surprise birthday cards waiting for us on the table, and the food was outstanding! It was our first Michelin star experience and we loved every moment. The staff were so attentive and easy to chat with. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
Very Delicious Food
Convenient and delicious
The restaurant is very delicious
Delicious food, clean and bright space, attentive and dedicated service. So wonderful
Delicious food, beautiful scenery
I think they had quite a bad rep in the past but I actually had a very lovely meal! The food was very interesting and delicious, the waiters were nice to talk to and the ambiance was great in general! Would definitely go back One thing they could improve on is the non alcoholic drink tasting. I personally didn t like a lot of them except for the fake wine and the drink for the dessert dish
Enthusiastic service
Is the food good? Travel well
Good
The staff was so friendly and indulged our many questions about the cuisine and wine. It was truly world-class service to go with the world-class food and beverages. Libby, Harry, and of course Ben went above and beyond to give us an amazing experience.
12 course taster meal out of this world
Enthusiastic service
The perfect place..... Food and service was excellent.....first class in every aspect Dietary restrictions: No pork or seafood was served to my husband as requested
Booked a table for lunch for my 60th Birthday. Wonderful! Charming and friendly staff, food sublime. All round perfect choice.
Outstanding food and service. Well deserves its Michelin stars. Not the cheapest of evenings out but definitely worth every penny. Highly recommend the wine pairing with the tasting menu.
A truly one of a kind experience. Weve been wanting to go here for a few years now and it exceeded all of our expectations. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived. As is customary in michelin restaurants, there were several more courses that we thought. Make sure you come hungry! We were stuffed by the time we left, filled with everything but regret.
Decent food & service ( for a 1*), overpriced wine, so so atmosphere at best, and £400 pps (even without wine paring!) is beyond even a 3* territory in my experience. Must be post covid rush
Very nice!
They couldnt or wouldnt accommodate my food intolerances of dairy and gluten. Told not to book as unable. Michelin starred chef my word.
We had lunch at this beautiful French restaurant in Cambridge. It was the best foodie experience in this trip. Foods and deserts were great. The staffs were attentive and helpful. Will definitely come back again.
Food
Amazing place to visit for a special occasion. The food is interesting and unique, I love trying new things. The sommelier was was very informative and friendly!
First class meal and service from a very friendly and attentive (but not overbearing) team. Whilst other similar/Michelin restaurants seem to have an element of performance as part of the experience and ambiance, our own experience of Midsummer was that the food and wine were absolutely at the centre of the show. Theyve been doing this for a long time, they know what they are doing, and they do it really, really well. Highly recommended.
Refined and intuitive service from knowledgeable, friendly staff. One of those places you wouldn t even know was there unless you knew what you were looking for. Elegant dishes served alongside perfect wine pairings.
Dining at Midsummer House is a very special experience. The food and service is outstanding and the attention to detail is phenomenal. And then there us wine!
Delicate and fragrant comes to mind but it is not enough when you come out still hungry Good experience for this area Sorry to say the basics but a good restaurant serves food not just flavours of
I loved everything about this place! They had great food, and an amazing selection of wines. The staff were extremely helpful and when asked can guide you through the history of the building and restaurant. The portions are small, but you get several of them. This restaurant is very expensive however, the bill for two people came to over £300. It was well worth the cost if you are willing to pay it
