1 Ainsworth St, Cambridge CB1 2PF, United Kingdom
We are a back street pub in central Cambridge with a warm and friendly atmosphere. We have an open fire in our cosy real ale bar, a large restaurant and a beautiful courtyard garden. We offer cask ales, draught beers, fine wines, whiskies and rums alongside innovative ‘hot rock’ meals and home cooked pub specials. Sunday roasts available lunchtimes on Sundays.
I was looking forward to a steak and chips but the chips are cooked in the same oil as the fish so not possible as I have a serious fish allergy No bottled lager and only one draught lager which was odd. No children’s menu so unfortunately for us we had to leave which was a shame
Amazing place Amazing staff great music
Amazing. All I can say. The staff the food the beer
The food was fine, super average pub food with pretty expensive prices. Wouldn't be in a rush back. Also no high chairs if you happen to be there for a Sunday lunch rather than a late night boozer. Can't speak for the alcohol. The service was friendly and the decor was fun for a pub.
Even though I had a meal here more than 2 weeks ago I think I should come back to leave a review. I still didn’t find any roast better than this one in Cambridge. I hope you guys keep the great work! 100% recommended.
Gem of a pub for locals &/Or tourist in pub crawl mood 💎. The atmosphere & decoration of the place are unique in town. I'm Latino & it makes me feel home without losing it's Brit fine touch. Beer, whiskey & rum selection is great. If you're lucky, go for a single of rum Hechicera.
My absolute favourite pub, in Cambridge, the UK and beyond! Ales are amazing, the hot rocks food is incredible, the music and atmosphere is second to none!
Staying a few doors down, this pub came highly recommended and we weren't disappointed. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, extremely tasty food which cooked in front of us, on hot rocks! Well done team 👏
Best pub in Cambridge!
Great for Sunday roast. Pork and chicken on offer. I had the pork. Melt in the mouth meat and very crackly crackling. Loads of beer choices.
I stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago and I have to say, this was one of my favorite meals while traveling in the UK. Solid place and I will go back anytime I am in town.
Lovely atmosphere and music, a bar area and a more restaurant like area. A nice outside seating area and lovely staff. Good portions of great food. Would greatly recommend for a nice relaxed night out.
Lovely pub great food, lovely decor staff fab, very quiet
It is our favourite Pub in Cambridge
If you are in a neighborhood spare some time and enjoy in a authentic local pub
lovely pub with fantastic atmosphere, very welcoming and heart warming backstreet establishment Vegetarian options: choices for myself, the vege lasagna was delicious served with the hand cut chips and salad
Didnt try the food but what a great little pub, well worth a visit
Great boozer!!
Jennah is so lovely on the bar
Decent beer
Great place to eat dinner and socialize with friends
A totally recommend it Great atmosphere, excellent bar selection, fabulous food Unique and extremely personal decoration that you will still enjoy it You can purchase art while you are in. You can take free vinyl away with you. You can hear live music on specify days. Great outdoor area. A truly a jewel in the backstreet of Cambridge
Went for Easter Sunday lunch. Delicious food, (chicken roast... Yum yum) fab music and excellent service! Well be back!
Great evening on Easter Sunday. Loved the live band with kids playing drums and keyboard. Lovely atmosphere
Just had a drink with old friends there but I had forgotten how nice this pub is. Will be going back for more.
Great pub, good food and very nice atmosphere!!
Always great! Best pub in Cambridge
Always a good night out
The place and the service are great and the food is good and abundant.
Great themed pub. Good food and atmosphere. A little gem tbh.
A classic Cambridge pub.
£7 for a pint of warm lager arggh
Great food, great service, great place!
Had a great time. Good beer, great red wine with venison main in an atmospheric pub
Good food, great staff. Very quirky surroundings with vinyl records on the wall. Only complaint was that it was quite cold with smokers going in and out to the garden.
Old school pub, cosy atmosphere. Good beers on tap & a fireplace. 100% recommended.
Really great proper pub with interesting, well-kept beers on the pumps, banging Sunday roast and welcoming service. Highly recommend.
Live music! great range of spirits and tasty food! Local artists exhibit here as an added bonus.
As always all food just fantastic! We had a rabbit and it was very good, tender, not boring, you taste a real rabbit ( not a chicken) ! Perfect
Superb pub, great range of cask and keg beers, good selection of drinks, great service, amazing decor
Superb food and a really enjoyable evening
Had great Sunday at geldart not only had an amazing rot rocks dinner but listened to music with Johnny write and his pills amazing music afternoon.goid way to meet new peaple and make freainds .so looking folward to tue night next week .
Cool pub with a great beer selection
Great pub, one moody bar tender who if you go in not knowing they dont do food on certain days and ask for a menu will respond... What for in a rude manner to fan myself with I was tempted to respond.. always has a sour face bless him, please go in and try to make him smile. Good job I wasnt that hungry as would have bit his head off for my dinner otherwise.
Great back streets pub. With wonderful musical themed decoration. Elvis, the proprietor, keeps a great selection of ales. Spirits and wine. The food is of a really high standard. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere. Large beer garden including comfortable covered seating areas. Do yourself a great kindness. Get up. Go out. And go there.
Good friendly atmospheric pub
What a fabulous pub. Just had Sunday lunch, Roast lamb with all the trimmings. Beautifully cooked lamb, roast potatoes, seasonal veg, Yorkshire pudding and lashings of tasty gravy. Cant get much better. 6 adults and two children looked after by the attentive staff. Bar person knew the range of beers well and was able to steer me to a great porter and locally brewed stout. If youre after a non pretentious place with great beer, service snd food give this a try.
Great pub, great beer selection, great music. Definitely worth visiting again, and then it was Syd Barretts pub
A pint of neck oil costs £8.75 which is a total discrace
... lovely vibes, proper local bar...
Lovely pub, rest food, great atmosphere.
Walked in, £8.70 for a pint of neck oil, daylight robbery, not a chance
I know times are tight and pubs are struggling with increased costs. However, it is £8.70 for a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil in this pub. Apart from that, the food (vegetable lasagne) was really nice and not too expensive (£14.50).
Great pub. Wonderful staff, quality food and beer.
Elvis is the king! And a God
Lovely food, atmosphere, garden. But pints are £7.50 each. Preposterous for Cambridge... Even in London that would be obscene.
Love the fader, very reasonably priced at 7.10
The Geldart is home when away from home in Cambridge. Best kept beer cellar and superb atmosphere. A must visit when in town.
Lovely friendly local atmosphere but they obviously are also a music venue ( decor). No food at lunchtimes when we went but the menu looks good
Everything perfect!
Great pub with a brilliant selection of beer
Favourite place in Cambridge. Great food, excellent beer and the best people. Thanks for a great evening!
A unique and brilliant gem of Cambridge. Quirky music theme, fabulous food, best service, live music, warm atmosphere well it s perfect!
Going to Cambridge v Bristol Rovers, while walking to match came across this friendly pub, only there for a short time, but enjoyable.
The best fish and chips! Great choice of beer and staff always fantastic.
Great pub, tucked away off Mill Road. Food is imaginative and very good quality. Great range of beers. Live music on Tuesdays. Comfortable patio.
Absolutely love this pub. First I thought it was the character of the pub that did it, then I thought it was the fantastic selection of real ales, rums and whiskies, but soon enough realised it was the staff that make this place so great. I will be very sorry when I move away from Cambridge, because this is my favourite pub anywhere.
Lovely pub, friendly staff and menus written on vinyl records. The location is wonderful!
I found this pub from CAMRAs Good Beer guide - not always a guarantee that it is a great pub, just that they will serve real ale and it will be kept well. The beer selection was large, all the beers we had were great (good choices but also in perfect condition). The food was great - we had a lamb roast, a steak hot stone, etc. and all were really good. The service was generally great - they were responsive to emails to book, were attentive throughout the meal, etc. Paying was a bit slow (we went up to the bar in the end) but I wonder if that was a shift changeover/break time - minor quibble. The pub generally seems kid friendly - we had two pre-teen monsters and other tables had similar and younger and no problems were had. The decor is very eclectic! Huge amounts of musicana decorate everything, and our table was right by a selection of slightly saucy artwork (that caused amusement from the young nephews!). We will definitely return! Parking: there might be some street parking in the evenings or at weekends but youll be driving around to find a space as is to be expected in cities.
Nice first time visit, worth a return.
£7.40 for a pint of dry hopped lager is ridiculous, especially when it s around £5 in neighbouring pubs. Lovely to have a fire lit in the winter.
Quirky pub in the beer quarter
£6.90 for a Guinness in a backstreet pub, that, even by Cambridge standards was poor, is criminal. Presumably part of an elaborate joke at the customers expense. The pub is decked out in rock n roll memorabilia: A great rock n roll swindle indeed. In fairness the staff were very nice. Recommended for those who like a side order of being exploited and scandalised with their pints.
I liked this place a lot. Lovely beers.
Having already tried their takeaway menu, dining in certainly lived up to our expectations. Great selection of pub food and choice of real ales. With plenty of well spaced, candle lit tables, this neighbourhood pub is with the trip out of the city, away from the more touristy pub venues.
First visit here, great local atmosphere and 6 real ales. The pub decor is based around music and is very nice. The food on offer looked amazing so next visit we will definitely eat here.
I asked if the bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the menu was vegan. I was told yes and it came with dairy butter.
Always great!
Place with a lot of musical charm. The food was delicious.
I have given the Geldart 1 star as I needed to press a star to give my review. As a single man at a low point in my life. I popped in for a touch of hospitality. I have been ignored by the staff for two hours now despite trying to engage in conversation. After sitting with a empty glass for about 5 minutes I started my stopwatch on my phone. At 8 minutes and 15 seconds I was aventualy acknowledge. Suppose you have to be in the In crowd to enjoy some company in this pub. As a ex publican I would be mortified to see my staff ignore anyone. Thanks for the conversation. NOT
Great food, service, real cider and beer. Highly recommended.
Fantastic atmospheric venue. Menus on old records great idea. However not a great dining experience. No salad available for the only fish option, no vegan choices and very limited expensive vegetarian 1970s type option. A mushroom with a bit of goats cheese in a bun six chips and a slice of lettuce. Desperately needs up dating. The 1970s style surly waitressing was amusing.
Great food and really good people! Such a nice place!!!
Lovely eve last night here. Great vibe, delicious food... especially the prawns & romesco & the steak hot rock!!! And great service too!
First visit, loved it! and will come back again
A cosy friendly pub. Great food great service
Cute pub in Cambridge with really good service
Nice ambience. Dog friendly too. Staffs are quite friendly.
Great array of beers and very welcoming, recommended.
Quirky pub, fab beers and wines. Known for their hot rocks dining specials.
Food ok, portions not very large. Staff could definitely be more friendly.
Pretty nice spot, laid back atmosphere, interesting food
We stopped for a quick drink. A reasonable range of real ales and a welcoming real fire added to the local atmosphere. We did not eat but from our table we could see into the kitchen and the preparation and plates of food looked both appetising and plentiful.
Decent pub with a great interesting interior theme (check out the piano table!). Great place to have a couple of pints and share a few of small bites or have a sit down meal inside. Worth checking out for sure. Chilled out decked covered outdoor seating area
A nice cozy bar.friendly staff good prices.verry quit tho.il go back some day and might change the review
A place with a soul Lovely food, good drinks selection, band every Sunday.
Great local pub with a decent outdoor seating. We sat on the yard to play cards and have a beer.
Excellent steak, cozy place
A nice back street pub
A really lovely local pub with great staff, atmosphere and food
Excellent pub love the beer pumps
Nice little pub with friendly staff and locals. Basic but charming decor with an open fire with chestnuts roasting. Good selection of draught beers. We did not order any food. Service : 4/5 |
I love this pub. I lived just a few doors down from it for a few years. The staff here have always treated me very well. The food is scrumptious. I got lots of takeaway fish n ships over lockdown. Theres a good selection of beers and wines too! Wonderful music-themed retro vibe with the occasional live music event. Its a wonderful neighborhood pub that was always very welcoming to me. Thank you, Geldart (especially Elvis, Laura, Callum, Raquel). I miss you.
Beautiful traditional pub with an interesting menu. Many of our group had hot rocks which all looked great. The price was pretty reasonable too. It was lovely to be somewhere warm, with an open fire and great food on a Friday night. The staff were great and attentive too.
The place is really cute and amazing, I enjoyed the food and the mulled wine, it was great, you should definitely try it
A bit different and a bit funky. It was quit cold inside for some reason the night we were there.
Great pub with a garden and very tasty food(unique choices but definitely all delicious)
Wonderful service, good food and fresh and tasty guest beer
Thanks for accommodating my dietary requiremens. A lovely meal
Execellent beer.. nice food..enjoyed our little outing there
Great beers, great atmosphere, great food. Definitely one of the nicest pubs in Cambridge. Toilets are usually fantastically clean too.
Great atmosphere, very chill
Good beer, good food, good service.
Great food, really nice atmosphere. Beer was a bit dear for us Northerners but all-in-all it was really nice
Simply the best fish and chips in town (that Ive tried yet) :)
The Geldart is my favourite place to go for a drink in Cambridge. There s a BLT for £3.75 that s pretty fantastic, a lovely range of ales as well, and the staff are always friendly and a good laugh. There s a kind of 50s 60s rock vibe going so the music is much more classic than a lot of places play, plus in the pre-pandemic world now lost to the annals of time there were some nice live events too. I used to live right around the corner and I d be there at least once a week. It s my favourite.
Love this hidden gem! Great beer garden and selection of drinks. Hot plates were good too.
Quirky pub with great meals with great staff too. Loved it!!!
Great drinks choice and excellent serving staff. Also lovely covered outdoors space
We just love this place! We come back every time we are in town. Good food. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Good beer. Very recommended!
Nice pub, lovely staff, good food, excellent beers but beer was a bit pricey. We booked quite late on a Saturday afternoon for a 7pm table and they were very obliging.
Yes a proper Cambridge pub that serves fabulous ales, has a quirky (but in a good way) character and lovely good as well. Well worth a visit :-)
Great beers, food and atmosphere
Very nice food and ambience, especially the garden atea. Dont forget to try their on the rocks items, its delicious
Great service, atmosphere and beers!
Phenomenal
Im so sad to be disappointed by this place. The last time we went was 4 months ago and the service was so amazing we havent stopped talking about it. Tonight as we were in town we decided to drop by and were immediately let down. We only ordered hummus which took about 15-20 minutes to come. It finally arrived and I imediately found a hair in my food. When I alerted my server, she got really uncomfortable and stated if it was from us, its only been in the food for the time it took me to walk from the kitchen. When we didnt say anything she responded do you want a different set of bread? We got no follow up checks after the bred was delivered, except to drop off drinks we ordered and realise they had also messed up that order. The server never came by again, she had other staff deal with us and no one checked in or offered any apologies. Super not impressed.
Very nice local pub with a musical flare. The atmosphere is great, and its good to see there are still independent pubs around worth going to :)
Excellent pub . Good choice of beers and the food was delicious. 3 of us had the steak hot rocks & one had the fish & chips, all of us enjoyed the food and it was very good value for money . I would also highly recommend the pancakes they were really tasty. The Staff were very attentive and friendly. The pub it s self is really interesting with random items & very clean . We can t wait to go back there .
Hadnt been in since Lockdown. Elvis was on night off, but Fred was at the bat. Situation normal.later on met a couple of guys that were besties with a mate from youth club. Thats why you go to Pubs
Great food, great service.
Good as could be under the circumstances. And good beer.
Good food, great choice of drinks.
Excellent real ale pub. Food excellent you need to book. Highly recommended.
I love The Geldart pub, always friendly service. The beers are really good and lots of choice of real ales and other drinks. The food is fresh and very tasty.
Amazing Sunday lunch and a perfect pint of Citra. Thanks Elvis and Laura.
Living in Los Angeles I miss this place routinely. It has the best bohemian pub atmosphere in the entire U.k. The owners are the most friendly and accommodating folks youll ever find. The music regularly played on the speakers are the most eclectic and awe inspiring. If you want a drink or food theres no better place.
