23A Market Passage, Cambridge CB2 3PA, United Kingdom
An iconic basement restaurant in the middle of Cambridge, Butch Annie’s Beef Bar serves the finest 30-day dry-aged organic burgers and steaks, alongside chicken and vegetarian options, locally sourced craft beers on tap, a wide selection of cocktails with organic wines, softs and thick-shakes.
The food was really cool, the music and the design were perfect. We found only one really bad thing about the water bottle; it was moldy from the inside.
I used to love Butch Annie's and I hope that this review will help them understand what's now wrong with the place and what can be improved to get back to the levels of the past. First and foremost: why don't they ask anymore how we want our meat to be cooked? The steak was raw and the burgers over the 'medium' cooked. Worst part, the bacon (that we had to pay for as an addition) barely touched the grill. My wife decided to take it off the bun and say nothing but I raised the point to the waitress and the answer I got was "I'm very sorry". Said it again and got the same answer. Now, this has been my favourite burger for years but it's now more of a hit and miss as the last few times I've been there, I haven't left the place with the usual happiness that I had before. Think that tonight I decided to go to Honest burgers, due to the above... And man, Honest is far to be as good as you used to be... Food for thoughts, I hope that the service (and the food as a consequence) will get back to be the best in Cambridge! Cause I'm afraid, now it's not.
I ordered the Italian chicken burger, the sauce was the highlight. Nice chips with rosemary flavour. Lovely atmosphere and music.
The Saucy Rump Burger was one of the nicest burgers I've ever had (and I am a burger aficionado). Only improvement would have been another slice of cheese. My partner had The Jack and it was really nice but not quite as tasty so we shared. (Had it been the other way around she would only have let me have one bite;-) Place was quite for a Friday lunchtime (maybe because other burger places get better reviews?). This combined with too-loud 10 songs on repeat shuffle was my reason for 4 stars for atmosphere.
Moderate Potion The portion is bigger than Byron Burger. The bun tasted very good. The sauce tasted special and unique too. Too bad the food(burger, steak, onion rings and chips) is only slightly warmer than Honest Burgers. Only as warm as Byron Burger. Therefore do not feel warm after eating the whole meal, but at least feel fuller than eating at Byron Burger. The restaurant is located underground, therefore easily overlooked by the pedestrians. The environment looks clean, nice and rustic. The tables are not too close to each other. I think everything will be better if the food is hotter......
A door at street level leads down to Butch Annie’s, an amazing burger place. My burger was well cooked and the fries well seasoned. The Oreo shake was good too. It’s not the big place, luckily we did have an issue finding a seat. Somewhere I’d recommend!
Visited twice, food quality's solid and finding a seat's never a problem. The burgers are nice flavored but too salty for me. Fries are spot on with a crispy shell and soft middle. The onion rings were a bit too brown and dry.
A nice little burger restaurant in the heart of Cambridge. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, asked all the right questions and were very polite. The food was great too, although the chillies in my burger blew my head off! 🤣 Definitely worth a visit if you are in Cambridge.
Best burgers in Cambridge!
Had lunch there today, excellent burgers and great service. Defo going to visit again!
The worst veggie burger I ve ever had. Inedible. Arrived after a 35 minute wait.
This is the best burger you will ever eat in your life. As long as you get the big one
Ive never had a bad experience at Butch Annies. I think of their burgers as an example when I buy a burger from a pub or restaurant as they make the best burgers Ive tried so far, the only downside I could think of would be the room so if your looking to go there in the evening its wise to book as they get very busy.
steak was god awful. arrived cold and had to send back. got a new one and the cow was still mooing! so rare, basically not even cooked and still not very warm either. would not come back here again
Pretty disappointed with the Smokey Jo burger, didn t have any flavors, only thing that I can taste is the sauce. Steak was okay but can be better. Service was good .
The burger in terms of appearance and size was nothing special. £28 is a lot for a burger, fries, and a beer, and they even added a £2.55 service charge ridiculous.
Terrible service made us overpay and removed the service charge as an apology for 30 minute late fries that they originally served knowing of allergies??? Then the waitress lied to us and said that we said stuff we simply didnt. We didn t even get the fries, she had to go back about 5 times to check allergens, waited ages to get our order taken in the first place and had to go up several times to ask for mayo/the bill. The service charge wasn t going to be paid. Of course we weren t going till pay for the fries which never arrived and when they bought us the WRONG fries, we shouldn t have had to pay for those fries. Plus she then argued with me when i told her that was ridiculous. Worst service ever. Burger was dry, fries were apparently meh. Not that i would know, because mine never arrived. Awful, overrated, gone downhill as ANYTHING Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
No halal meat.
Great burgers here!
Still the best burgers in Cambridge
I had a steak and was really impressed. Good and reasonably priced beers. Good tunes too!
The best burger I ve ever had in my entire life! Definitely worth the visit!
Excellent service here today from Farrah and leah :)
Back home, basement restaurants are not common. Glad I dropped in. Perfectly cooked burger. Got The One.
Good food portions, friendly staff, tasty burgers and fries.
Brilliant burger bar with excellent beee range. Friendly service and despite my order being wrong (which was my fault, not theirs). I would highly recommend
One of the best burgers I ve ever had! The Truffle Hunter was delicious, great fries, and an amazing thick milkshake. Wonderful service, and highly efficient in without-hesitation swapping out my lactose-intolerant husband s burger bun and cheese for vegan alternatives. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back; thank you!
Really great steak, very friendly staff. Well worth a visit
I have been travelling around the world looking for the best burger in the world. Over 200 burger places. This is the best one and therefore worthy of a review. The burger is so juicy (not watery). The service was so attentive. 10/10
Great food with great service
The entrance is really cool the food is amazing and the lady that worked there was really nice
First thing, 7.45pm, when we walked in we thought the restaurant was closed as no other customers than us were in. To be honest everytime I went there the restaurants empty, maybe the busiest I saw with one table or two, despite so the toilets were very filthy. There was water splashes everywhere in front of the sinks and pee on the floor of each cubicles I walk with crutches so I had to be careful not to slip, as they dont have a disabled toilet. As for the food: Not enough condiments in the burger, I asked for extra bacon and only ONE bacon strip was added to my burger for the price of £1.30 or £1.50. The burger itself was not terrible but it was a huge chunk of not juicy or tender or tasty meat. I could definitely make a better one myself at home... The fries overpriced, considering the size of the portion. I had dine in here about 2-3 times, and frankly, every time I left I felt unsatisfied and I couldve spent my money elsewhere. The filthy toilet this time was too much... The service was alright but I wont come back, sorry.
Good food and great service as well!
Some of the best burgers and chips I ever had. Beer is very good too
Excellent gourmet burgers!!!
Lovely little burger place. Definitely recommend on getting The One burger, as it is flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Atmosphere feels great, good music playing in the background and the restaurant has a nice décor to it. The young lady that served us on the day was class, making sure that we are having a good time, and the food was brought to us very fast.
Solid burger place. Nice informal vibes and with some cool graffiti on the walls. Food was quick and tasty.
Good food. Service is very fast. Good Place for family too.
Great taste lives up to reviews was keen to try and a warm welcome for a solo diner, wishing you continued success.
Always great
The server we had was lovely, she let us have plenty of time to decide what we wanted from the menu and was very accommodating. So no fault there. The atmosphere was okay but wasnt busy at all. It was little bit dead. Maybe that might be because it is a weekday. Me and my partner had steak, it was quite flavourless lacked any taste at all if Im 100% honest. We ate the whole steak as we were hungry and it wasnt awful. The fries were average and so were the onion rings. I did expect better. My mum and her partner had the burgers and they were nice and had flavour. However overall we decided we wouldnt come back here again if we had a choice to. Vegetarian options: Had a veggie burger section.
Burgers were juicy and succulent. Some of the best Ive ever had.
Fantastic burger and truffle fries. Highly recommend.
One of the best burgers in Cambridge for a more than reasonable price! It sounds silly but letting you know the burger are cooked medium-rare is not as frequent as it should be. The waitresses were nice and friendly and the atmosphere was quite nice. Bear in mind if you are claustrophobic, as it might not be for you (underground local). Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options in the menu Dietary restrictions: There are chicken burgers in the menu, as well as vegetarian options Parking: The closes may be the Gran Arcade parking, which is free every day from 6pm Wheelchair accessibility: It is an underground local and I could only see a staircase to access, so Im afraid this is not wheelchair accessible
Firstly, I dont really like burgers and so was hesitant but had been recommended by a friend. Wed walked by the entrance so many times and not noticed it. Down the flight of stairs is a really cool, open, welcoming restaurant. The burgers were next level, such imaginative combinations and totally delicious, plus cook medium, which was great. The service was superb, the waitress was friendly, informative, so diligent with my allergies and even spoke to her bosses to let us take a momento from the evening. The local produce and beers/ciders make this place somewhere we will return to over and over!
We really enjoyed our visit here. Tasty food. Urban decor. Attentive and friendly service.
Amazing steak, perfect rare and excellent seasoning. The peppercorn sauce is gorgeous and the truffle fries are always a good bet! Burgers are great too!
wonderful service and amazing food. definitely recommend. thank you!
Best burger in Cambridge
Beautiful food served by brilliant colleagues. Cleo was superb!
Food was extremely tasty. Its definitely worth the money.
We both opted for The One signature steak burgers, with skin-on chips. I chose the JD sticky bourbon sauce and my partner the garlic mayo. Waitress service was attentive, but it wasnt busy when we arrived. She informed us that the signature burgers are a little pink inside and gave us the option of having them cooked longer. We both stuck with the pink, but if I went again I would have it cooked longer as it was very tasty but also very wet. The single use tiny napkins couldnt catch the juices running down my hands! No cutlery was offered and the burgers arrived on wooden boards, which looked perfectly clean, but obviously well used, quite rough and not regularly oiled. We debated how hygienic they could have been long-term and decided it was probably best not to think about it! Chips were very skinny, fries not chips. Garlic mayo was very garlicky but the JD sticky bourbon sauce was neither sticky or saucy, but tasted watered down and extremely runny. I had to literally immerse my chips in it to get it to stick. Overall gave it 4 stars for the service and food was ok, plus liked the option of ordering a 1/2 bottle of wine (even though the waitress couldnt say and obviously didnt know what a carafe was). Would return, but order something different next time.
Worst burger place in Cambridge
Really nice burgers. But being in a basement a wifi service would be good!
Staff were friendly, helpful and the service was quick. Food was good quality.
Was served by Leah and Cleo, very friendly and helpful with recommendations! Thank you guys so much! Look forward to coming back!
Very nice burgers and cheap and the costumare care is fantastic . They also have gluten free choices
Ive been serval times to Butch Annies and its always been my favourite... but yesterday I visited (25/02/24) and the burgers were horrid. The menu has changed and Im so disappointed! Cant see us coming back again!
Most definitely a return to restaurant. Came across Butch Annies while visiting Cambridge for another shop; it has a street level entrance that leads down to a vaults-style layout with plenty of seating. Service was great, food was even better. Came out quickly, was hot and cooked just as wed asked. Can highly recommend the Smokey Joe and Italian burgers. Spoilt for choice with fries but we went for the Rosemary Salt and the onion rings were spot on. Only downside to this place...its the only one of its kind it seems; worth the 1 hour + journey i would say though.
Great food, the steak is amazing and the craft cider on tap is also very good. Not particularly expensive considering its in the centre of Cambridge, and the service is always polite & friendly, just sometimes a little slow if you dont catch the waitresses attention Parking: Grand arcade multistorey is within easy walking distance Wheelchair accessibility: Restaurant is in a basement down a staircase, I dont believe there is a stair lift or elevator
It was with a small door like underground , it never take my attention but than i go see the atmosphere and tried the burger and i love the meat .The size of the burger was enough to fill me up, sauces are very nice , i feel very comfortable and like at home all very friendly i would definitely go there again
Awesome cheese
Get the sirloin to share!!!
Excellent burgers - best Ive had in ages. Fries are also delicious (some might find them a bit salty). The steak tastes amazing but Im not keen on this slicing before serving trend (not least because I know it makes a small steak look bigger!). Wine is OK - but definitely rustic - Id probably stick to beer in future (they have a great line up of local brews). Music is seriously good but can be a bit intense if you are near one of the speakers. Otherwise, hightly recommended.
Came here recently for the first time to try the veggie burgers, which we had heard good things about. We had the ooh la la and the truffle hunter. Both were terrific and definitely worth the praise. I would say both were among the best burgers we have had in Cambridge, and significantly better than the boring impossible / moving mountains vegan burgers that seem to be everywhere these days. Restaurant overall had a nice vibe and the server was super friendly. Bravo!
Mouthwatering burgers and fries, great service and love the underground bar vibes.
SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTING.. BURGER MEAT KIND OF TOUGH, SERVED ON A PIECE OF WOOD (!), NO CUTLERY, ASKED FOR A COFFEE AND WERE TOLD WE DONT DO HOT DRINKS !!! ALL THIS WITH CONSTANT LOUD SCREAMING MUSIC ... WONT BE GOING BACK THERE IN ANY HURRY!
Burger was the best I ve had in a while. Rosemary salt chips delicious. Music gave it a nice atmosphere. Staff all friendly
Love the chicken burger so much!! Best in Cambridge
Racism. No service at all.
Great dry aged burgers..Delicious chips..Prices are great compared next door..
Best burger ever!
Burger tasted fresh with good flavours.Good service, too.
One more time, it is confirmed that the best burgers I had are in the UK! I don t like the British pies&co, but their burgers are simply amazing! Fresh meat, medium done, perfectly balanced makes you want more and then die of belly explosion without regrets! Congratulations to the cook! The prices are fair!
Lovely service and great food
Really underrated place! Great craft beers on tap, really delicious food and attentive staff. Love the bourbon milkshakes to finish with.
Expansive, quality is mediocre. There are better places one street away for less price.
Giving it 4 stars because the food was brilliant, but the service although okay was nothing special. Also found it annoying that the pizza and burger that we ordered came at completely different times, we were warned that the burger would take a while to cook which we didnt have a problem with (especially when they had asked how we wanted it cooked and that was the reason it would take longer) but assumed that the pizza would then be timed to come out at the same time but it instead came out way before. However, the burger, pizza and chips were all delicious. The milkshakes were very nice, and the cocktails that we tried were okay, both not the best Ive had but nothing to really complain about. For the price I think you can do a lot better, especially in terms of burgers in Cambridge but if you are interested in thick, cheesy pizza then it is great.
Butch Annie s is the best kept secret n Cambridge with the best burgers and no casual but super friendly service. They have many beers on offer and only source ingredients from local farmers.
Lovely atmosphere and a really good vegan burger! Prices aren t cheap but if you loves burger, here s your place. Wish they did hot drinks though
Overall very good experience, I would recommend and will come back again. + burgers are tasty, good selection of beers, you can choose burger size 175g or 255g. - No kids menu, staff is friendly, but forgot to ask how we would like our burgers to be cooked, some burgers served on a plates some without (paper wrap). From our table and some others impossible to see board with beer selection, so you have to go to the bar to make your selection. P. S Ive seen pizzas and I am not impressed, but I should come back to try them for fair opinion.
Really lovely burgers here the cocktail I had was really tasty as was the gluten free burger, the bun was tasty but fell apart as soon as I touched it unfortunately. Gluten-free bread does this its just unfortunate that I then couldnt eat most of it as it fell off of the burger. Still was super tasty and will be going back at some point. Vegetarian options: The whole menu can be done vegetarian Dietary restrictions: They were very good about gluten free food and I didnt get sick after eating there.
Visited here while on a work trip in Cambridge. Went for The Big One Burger, the halloumi chips and a pint of Beasticus. All of it was delicious. I wish I couldve stayed longer to try more of the craft beers. I was dining alone which can often be a little anxiety inducing, but the staff were nice and friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere put me at ease. Ill definitely be back as Id really like to try the detroit style pizza (and more beers)
Ok, but I thought the portion sizes were a bit misleading for the pizza! Quite a bit smaller than I expected
Definitely my favourite burger place in Cambridge. The downside is that order prep takes a long time which is bit annoying.
Lovely burger and very attentive staff. It was quiet when we arrived but got busier and the staff were polite to all who arrived.
Husband and I both had the Big Chicken burger and it was easily the best burger we ve had since we moved to England from the US. We ll be back the next time we re in Cambridge. Highly recommend.
Update (previously 4 stars). Went in on a Tuesday for a drink and a pizza. We obviously picked the wrong beer, as it really didnt taste good (but was 6.80 a pint). Could have forgiven that, but we ordered pizza and after about 20 minutes could smell burning coming from the kitchen. We joked it was our pizza - turns out we were right, my friends pizza was pretty much black on the bottom. Mine was alright in the middle, but again burnt around the outside. I think well cross this one off the list. A shame as we visited a few times before and it was pretty good
[2023-01-14, £14.67/pax] 45 minute wait on a saturday 7pm, which was definitely not worth it for the food we got. it didnt look too busy, but I think they had a lot of delivery orders. onion rings - 7/10 but definitely not worth the price, portion was small burger - 6/10, big portion but the meat was rather tough.
One of the best burger I ever had... the youve pulled burger!
Its very tasty and its definitely worth a visit.
Amazing food, fantastic place and great service! If youre hungry for a burger or aim to try something new (pizza), just come here. My favourite is the Oh la la!
Tasty food, friendly staff, cool setting - Just a few pounds more expensive than what its worth in my opinion. However, if youre happy to pay say, Five Guys prices, then honestly this would be the better choice.
absolutely brilliant place to eat the staff were so friendly and welcoming. the food is absolutely lovely been a few times and both the vegetarian and the meat burgers are both really lovely the portions are very good and a very big portions of chips served. i would definitely recommend
i ordered the classic along with a milkshake and the it was delivered in a reasonable time and tasted amazing. the staff were so nice and very welcoming to me. the prices for the order was very reasonable and great. recommended this place!
The burgers were brilliant as was the service
Went on Saturday had a burger and it was class, and i had the marshmallow milkshake it was very tasty. Was served by a polite girl she helped me a lot with what food to pick (her name was Leah, it was on the bill). The food came quickly and the overall atmosphere was good, would definitely go again, all round good food.
Nice atmosphere, juicy burgers, medium rare meat. Fries must be ordered separately. In addition, they can be ordered next to the burger, although this is not necessary, since the burger is already quite filling in its own way. Milkshakes fit for a king. Moreover, pizza and various foods are served. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is located rather inconspicuously, but is one of the best establishments in Cambridge. Its cozy and the food is delicious. Pictured is the Truffle Hunter burger.
Burgers are very good, the pizza is terrible. Have had Detroit square pizza in the states, should be like eating focaccia with pizza toppings, this was thin, and tough to eat, very disappointed.
What a top drawer meal. Great Detroit pizzas, awesome and perfectly cooked Burger, great service with personality (which these days is a bonus) and great music too. (Sound system needs looking at though - RH drop out and sounded like there was an unnecessary limiter in situ). Next time Ill have the thick shake AFTER my meal as they are quite filling and they dont do desserts. My only warning would be to call ahead and check the menu. I downloaded the menu from tinterweb and it was incredibly inaccurate. Not really an issue though...just thought a warning was in order. Bravo!
Wheelchair accessibility: Down a full flight of stairs.. wheels may not be the most comfortable way to get down them! Food
Love how inclusive the menu is for vegetarians! Beet patties available for all their burgers. Great sides and dips too. Yummy shakes and cocktails and a great selection of craft beers on tap. Service was lovely. Would highly recommend if you re in the mood for hearty greasy food and all the carbs.
Found this place by accident as not easily seen from the street. What a find, we had the Jack burger, skin on fries and onion rings. Served hot and very tasty. The burgers were really moist, the chips and onions rings were perfect. When we go back to Cambridge we will definitely eat there again.
An unassuming restaurant in the centre of town that once you follow the steps down underground, opens up in to a warehouse style open space with graffitied walls A menu that is inclusive of meat eaters and vegetarians alike, the meat is served medium well leaving the burgers juicy and succulent. Food is served up diner style wrapped in paper or a porcelain bowl for the larger option Great local beer selection on tap too
Nice small local business. Huge burgers and taste good. No wifi strangely. -1 stars because they have a hidden 10% service fee, which is poor business practice
Great chicken burgers, nice atmosphere and good milkshakes for kids !!
Help!! I was so stressed out in here !!! Not autism friendly
If you have any respect for hospitality workers please do not visit this restaurant. Delusional management.
My wife and I go here all the time and have for years - so much that they recognise us when we come in! We moved away nearly 2 years ago and still travel all the way to Cambridge. Great aesthetic to the restaurant and their burgers are just amazing. Service is always great too - best restaurant in Cambridge far as Im concerned!
Food was good Service was good Music and atmosphere brilliant Food : 4/5
Food was good, prices... On the Cambridge level. Id give it four but for some reason I got my burger wrapped in a paper instead of a plate while dining in and got the grease on my trousers... Still cant understand why would you not give a plate but ok
Hidden gem! Juicy burgers and mouth watering pasta. The service was very quick. Enjoyed our time here
Fast friendly service, really good burger and chips.
Presumably and most likely, the best burger in Cambridge.
Great atmosphere, and the best burgers Ive ever had. Highly recommended!
Food was amazing, drinks were amazing, table service from Leah was even more amazing! she was friendly, attentive and brought great energy will definitely be back!
Leah was our server today and she was amazing, super attentive and helpful. The vibe In restaurant was perfect 10/10. Will be returning
Great food and great atmosphere
One of the best burger I have ever had. And craft beer to boot..... excellent!
Good variety for drinks. Okay okay place for food. The veg burger base is beetroot which is a little weird. They serve the food in use & throw materials, no cutleries used. Food : 2/5
Probably the best burger Ive ever had! Good quality fresh meat cooked perfect even offered to cook more if i wanted. We explained to the waitress we didnt have a lot of time and she couldnt do enough to help us, I work in customer service and have to provide the best for people this girl was amazing!!! building looks non descript from outside and just a door but please go in the foods so good! and trust me it takes a lot to please me
The BEST burger and milkshake weve had in the UK. Highly recommend!
Lovely food and amazing service. Lovely hidden little basement style restaurant.
This place has so much promise. We had wonderful service but through no fault of her own we were left with being told no pizza or pasta (only available at the weekend), warm burgers, no vinegar at all and food served on a piece of paper with no cutlery unless you requested it. The chips were lovely though, hot and perfectly seasoned. I feel this place could be great but was let down by poor stock ordering and maybe not enough kitchen staff?
Cool basement atmosphere with some of the best burgers you will find in the UK. Their beetroot burger is great if you re a vegetarian. If you need a burger and it is summer, recommend ordering it. This place gets hot in the summer! Also, don t go here if you are in a rush! They are slow. Craft beer selection is decent.
One of the best burgers I ever had, and the basement atmosphere was also very nice. Didnt have to wait very long for the food. Great place.
Burgers not successful. Wouldnt go there again.
Very expensive pint (£6.70 cider) but their (one) vegan option was delicious!!! Onion rings and dip were also incredible. Would go back
Great Resturant food was good get the steak fritz and Leah is a great waiter
Long waits , horrible food and proper waste of money !
Blonde lady served me and my friends rudest attitude I have ever encountered with. Food takes years we were very hungry and patient. The lady even whispered behind her menu talking about us. Disgraceful behaviour I m appalled should get some new staff.
Food was really great, try the classic stake it s really good and for the burgers don t miss the (smokey joe), for the drink try the (troubles in paradise). ask Leah and Cleo they are the best.. it s my favorite place so far. Food
A fun little restaurant with amazing food. It was a really good experience as the staff were sweet and polite which you dont get to see in the UK that often.
Great experience, the treatment from the staff has been top notch, I would return without hesitation
Food is mediocre. Milkshake is great though. But service is terrible. Slow to take order, gave us the bill without us asking for it as if to chase us away, when the restaurant is in fact not too busy. Wont come back again
Best steak in Cambridge. Superfine.
A really nice option for burger lovers! It was a great atmosphere, low key, cool and charming at the same time. All the staff were beyond helpful and lovely in there manner of serving. The food took, around 40 mins in total. There were 4 people in our group and we all received the food at the same time. I have no complaints and believe they really cared about us. 5/5!
We can t recommend this place enough! We ve eaten here twice out of the three going out for dinner in Cambridge and tbh we should ve gone the third time as well. Great atmosphere with good music and very lovely staff. The One burger is easily the best we ve ever had! The chicken one is really good too. They have a big list of cocktails which all sound amazing (we only tried two). Surprisingly quiet for such a good joint
where do I start? Never in my 45 years have I ever experienced such disgraceful customer service and food .Not to mention the sheer disrespect I recieved from one of the managers , I believe to be called natalie/nathalia something along those lines. I could feel judgment and a negative vibe from her the minute I walked in whether that s jealousy or she s just a miserable women I don t know . However , I do know it s an embarrassment to have some one like her in charge of a burger joint. If I have one regret in life it s spending an hour and half in the same room as her .If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to stay as far away from butch Annie s as you possibly can .To call it one start is massively generous . Would give zero if I could .
My fiancée and I went here as a big family meal before our wedding. Our server, Leah, went above and beyond to make the occasion special. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was brilliant. Highly recommend to anyone in the Cambridge area.
This is easily one of the top burger joints in Cambridge. I don t come here often enough. Please do visit when you get the chance.
Butch Annie s - what s not to love! theyve truly revolutionised the steak dining experience by introducing an exhilarating game of chance. Will your steak be tenderly kissed by the flames or will it merely get a fleeting glance from a heat lamp from across the room? Or maybe both you may truly would have better odds playing snap by yourself Such unpredictable inconsistency cooking is truly... avant-garde. I suppose if youre into culinary masochism, this place is your sanctuary. Every bites a surprise! Will your tastebuds be elated or assaulted by excessive seasoning? Should you order a rare steak but served a medium rare fear not! The floor staff will kindly return the mistake to kitchen to cook it further to become raw! Only the steak gods will know how . Yet, amidst this culinary rollercoaster or poor cooking there s a shining beacon of hope: Leah, from the floor staff. Her professionalism was the only consistent element in this unpredictable epicurean journey. In summary: Dive headfirst into the enigma that is Butch Annie s. A truly exhilarating exploration of the unpredictable. Bon appétit!
Delicious food, milkshakes are class
Excellent burgers! Possibly the best weve ever had. The chips were amazing too (I would particularly recommend the rosemary salted ones). One of our party was vegetarian, and a bit worried about how the the veggie burger would be, but she was delighted with it.
It would be easy to miss Butch Annies as it is down a flight of stairs off the street but to miss it would be a big mistake. Excellent steak, fabulous service and a relaxed atmosphere. Oh, and the prices are good too. Wish we had found it earlier.
By far best burger in Cambridge. Meat is so perfectly done! Juicy and full of flavor. Chips are on point. Atmosphere is so cozy. Staff are very friendly, Ellie was amazing. All in all five star experience would definitely come again.
Ellie our server was so friendly and lovely. Burger was INSANE Food
Stunning burger cooked to perfection. Only gripe gents loos are not great. Definitely need a bit of TLC
Butch Annies Lester Millard Cambridge, UK 424 contributions Worsts Burger ever Sep 2023 Couples Strolling along the foot path on our way to a well know quick burger place, seeing the sign out side with this delicious looking photo showing double burger dripping with cheese and a well stacked burger, only to be presented with two burgers that you could not even see the burger inside, dreadfully presented, with the absolutely minimum inside a large bun, all that for £11.90 each, a side of chips that contained 9 chips, we had one beer, one coke and 2 saucy rump burgers one side of chips all 9 of them present the bill for £40.80. We complained to the waitress, she was friendly and told us it depends what type of chef we have in, a other customer close to us ordered a burger no cheese no bacon, what did he see in his burger you got it cheers and bacon. He left refused to pay waitress agreed. We will never ever eat again in this burger restaurant, we highly recommend any readers to avoid this over priced burger place with terrible burgers that no way reflect the juicy and well descriptive menu of the Saucy Rump Burger. THE SAUCY RUMP
Used to be great, now very average. Burgers today took a long time to arrive despite the place not being super busy. Was warned it would be cooked pink but my one arrived cooked all the way through and was quite dry. Also, no kids options at all which is disappointing. When it opened this was our go to burger place, but based on our last two visits it s now bang average.
The food was good... Nice place to have food and chat in an incredible atmosphere
Walked in and seated straight away, not the best seat in the house (next to the toilet). The steak was cooked to how they said it would be. The sauce was cold, and when I questioned it, I was told thats how it is. Found it hard to get used to. Rosemary chips are delicious. I do think the sauce and chips should be included in the £16 for the steak. Not enough to fill you up but a decent size meal. They dont sell pints. Signal is ifffy being in the basement.
Don t know about the food as we left during ordering. The waitress was very rude if you want more customers, propose to select people with better attitude.
Great food, great service and a nice selection of beer. We had a wonderful evening.
Just love this place! We eat here every time we come to Cambridge as they serve the best burgers ever!
Very interesting decor. The service was good, attentive, and lovely. The food was average. We had steak, mine was okay, and my partners steak was chewy. No distinctive or melt in your mouth taste. Portion was small. Table was wobbly, and so was the backing of my seat. Didnt feel like our kind of place. Unlikely to come back.
Those were the best burgers I had in a while! The meat is so valuable, and all the other ingredient were perfect too, bun included. If you like burgers, this place is the best choice you could make.
The Classic at £9 is probably the best no nonsense burger in town.
Meat wasn t tasty, serving is also so so No music in restaurant, felt quite depressive Food
Superb gourmet burgers, and a uniquely presented establishment. Young and trendy atmosphere (Im not either of those). Would definitely visit again if Im in the area.
The best burgers in Cambridge!
Been coming here for a few years now and it never fails to impress me. Today me and my mother decided to dine here and it was wonderful. The waitresses were lovely and the food was fantastic.
A lovely burger meal! Scrummy milkshake too! Definitely one to return to.
Popped in late at night, burgers were on point, super friendly servers, food came so fast. Burgers perfectly pink in the middle, milkshakes on point. 10/10 thankyou!!
Best cheeseburger I had in Cambridge! It seems a bit strange, as you have to go down a staircase, but once you get there, the atmosphere is really cool. It looks like a colorful pub, with tap beer and playing rock music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The clerk was very friendly and let us try 3 beers before choosing. It is worth it.
Saucy rump burger with peppercorn sauce was really good
Wonderful burger, tasty chips, friendly service and affordable prices. My recommendations!
Wow. Stunning burgers, really delicious. Burger cooked amazing, slightly pink but they checked how I like it. Fab service and super quick food
Service was horrible - they refused to turn down the extremely loud music despite the fact that my partner is disabled and she couldnt hear us well, and told them it was hurting her ears. Liam lied to us and told us he had literally no control over the music - but then changed the track and turned the volume up! Another member of staff told us they could turn it down but then Liam intervened and stopped them from doing so. Amazing some people stay in their jobs
Absolutely horrible experience. When we came in, the music was extremely loud, and we politely asked if the music could be turned down, as a member of our table had issues hearing. We were initially told it was against policy, and then Liam claimed it was literally impossible. We have no idea where the music comes from it just turns on at 12pm . The music was later turned *up*, and we asked a member of staff if it could be turned down as it was causing ear pain. They said yes and Liam intervened to stop them, said he d come over in 2 minutes, and then ignored us for the rest of the meal. The food was okay: the large burger was good, but the Parmesan chips were too strong for me.
Best burgers in Cambridge, no question about it!
Very nice place with good atmosphere. Service was amazing with friendly, helpful staff and the food.....wow...we lost words, amazing food so tasty and fresh 5
Just showing my age but the music was very very loud!
Good food with friendly staff.
Simple yet delicious food
Excellent food, music, atmosphere! We loved it! Food
We liked this place upon opening the door and hearing great music, but the service and food were even better! Delicious IPAs to choose from and the best pizza any of us have ever tasted. Seriously, you must try the pizza - it is unlike any I ve had before (& I ve eaten a lot in my time!) Vegetarian options: My daughter is vegan so had the vegan pizza - she said it was delicious.
Surprisingly quiet on a Saturday night although I was there pretty early (eating around 7pm). The Detroit-style pizza and New England IPA were both excellent and the waiting staff friendly, attentive and helpful.
Burgers were tasty enough. Tad expensive as they dont come with chips or a salad. Service was slow. Apparently they were busy, even though they place was no where near full.
Very tasty
Love these veggie burgers. And the fries and the onion rings Vegetarian options: Great Beet burgers Food : 5/5 |
Milkshake was very good. Burger was bland. Food took nearly an hour to arrive despite half the restaurant being empty. Would not go again.
Its the first time we visited, but we had a bad experience. the house was not full when we arrived, and even then, we had a wait of more than 1 and a half hours, after complaining twice, the burgers were served completely cold! Disappointed!
Expensive burgers but very good ones
Good burger, expensive beer, they add the service 10% (they dont ask), the light over the table blinds you. Its better to take away and eat in the market square. Parking: No carpark Wheelchair accessibility: No access
It is unacceptable the ridiculous amount of fries that you get for £3.50. Shameless.
Loved the food and the vibe! Shame about the delivery drivers ruining the vibe of the place but that cant be helped with a popular place! Thoroughly enjoyed my burger and the chips!
Decent food, i d say overpriced. The staff were really friendly, the food and drink was quite expensive. There s no access to wifi nor is there signal. The food was really tasty though. I would go again.
