Taj Tandoori is renowned for being the best & favourite Indian Restaurant in Cambridge. Loved by locals and visitors to Cambridge. Dine In & Takeaway service available with online ordering. Taj has won accolades for its food and service and held the position of number 1 Indian Restaurant in Cambridge on TripAdvisor. The menu has amazing choices including fusion dishes. The interior is clean, cool and inviting. Perfect for casual dining. The staff are friendly and professional. Being established for more than 30 years, we are experienced and masters of our craft.
We had an amazing meal this evening at Taj Tandoori. As soon as we arrived we were met by the team who took great care of us all evening. It was my husbands birthday and we were delighted when his desert came out with a sparkler and happy birthday being sung. The food is spectacular. So flavoursome and the portions are great. We had a variety of starters, mains and a desert and everything was presented beautifully and well enjoyed. We will definitely be coming back again!
Food is amazing! You can bring your own wine 🤩 The service is always great too, and the restaurant is beautiful! Highly recommend!
This is my go to curry house when I visit Cambridge, lovely food and great atmosphere. I had the karahi Gosht which was outstanding. Forget your fancy places in the city centre, this is where it’s at.
The customer service was amazing. Genuinely one of the best services I've ever had. And to top the wonderful experience, the food is even better. Would recommend to anyone thinking about wanting an Indian. This was my 3rd time going and every time has been just as amazing. I definitely will be going again.
As well as a more traditional Indian evening menu, Taj Tandoori also do a Sunday roast with a lovely spicy twist every Sunday from 12-4. My husband and I recently went and really enjoyed the Sunday roast. We had the chicken and the lamb. I'm personally a massive fan of the tandoori chicken, it's really moist and flavourful, and my partner loved the lamb. We also had a lovely hash brown starter and a crumble for dessert. As someone who mostly doesn’t drink alcohol, I also appreciated the nice selection of mocktails and juices. I'd actually say this is now my favourite Sunday roast in Cambridge, and the staff looked after us really well. I'd very much recommend it if you fancy trying a British roast with an Indian twist.
Great hospitality and great food !! Honestly such an amazing restaurant ! We drove all the way from London to visit Cambridge Mosque and needed a halal spot to eat . This place was a 10/10, from every dish we ate to the lovely staff service . We tried the chicken tikka fries , tarka daal , meat curry , prawns and mixed tandoori along with a few other sides and everything was soo delicious 😍 They made us feel extremely welcome and recommended all the great dishes. We had a great time and enjoyed the food so much ☺️ Would definitely recommend to everyone and would come down again .
I had a wonderful dining experience at Taj Tandoori Restaurant last night. The ambiance was cosy and inviting, perfect for a casual dinner with friends. The menu had a great selection of dishes to choose from, and everything we ordered was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the slow cooked mutton, which was cooked to perfection and had a lovely balance of flavours. The service was excellent, with the staff being attentive and friendly throughout the meal. Overall, I would highly recommend Taj Tandoori Restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I will definitely be returning in the future to try more of their delicious offerings.
This place was amazing. The food is delicious and they have so many different and original options. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. It was so difficult to choose and we ended up ordering too much lol. The service was the friendliest. Great experience and glad we went there. Will definitely visit again when in Cambridge. Excellent value for money.
Food was delicious. Attentive staff. Cant fault it
Great food and service
Im staying in Cambridge for a couple of months and ordered a takeaway from here, based on the reviews. For starter, I ordered the onion bhajis which were a good portion size and tasted nice. For main, I ordered the garlic chilli king prawn dish, which was somewhat disappointing. It had a decent flavour, but it didnt contain king prawns - they were medium sized and squishy. The sauce also lacked the thick texture one would hope for with an onion fried dish. Overall, okay, but didnt live up to the reviews.
Fantastic and authentic Indian cuisine. Ive been to many in Cambridge and this is the best!
Wow. What an experience here!!!!
Absolutely perfect! Dont hesitate, this is the place you want to go! Ps: Bengal Tiger is not too spicy if youre used to it, try it!
Fabulous placs to eat with friendly staff. Really nice restaurant. Best Indian restaurant in Cambridge
Simply the best. The Taj continues to be levels above its competitors. I would even go as far as to say they probably dont have many these days, as they are just so far ahead. Ive been eating at the Taj for over 10 years, just a few times a year, and on every visit, they have somehow levelled up; it amazes me that they can continue to improve, and Im looking forward to seeing whats changed in my next visit. I enjoyed every second I was there, from the warm welcome to the friendly departure. Every mouthful was extraordinary. Great food, great atmosphere and great price.
Fantastic food, very friendly staff and great customer service. Cant wait to eat here again.
Really amazing food and very friendly service. Always very accommodating with a group of friends. Great vegan and vegetarian options too. Would highly recommend. Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options.
Great atmosphere and hospitality! Good price for top food!
Very friendly and understanding staff. Also the cashew nut bahjee was unreal (cant remember the exact name) BYOB Thanks
I had an absolutely delicious meal at Taj Tandoori on a Sunday night recently. What may seem an unpretentious restaurant from the outside, Taj Tandoori is a warm, welcoming place that serves mouth watering pan Asian food. As a vegetarian, I particularly enjoyed the Mumbai Gobi Manchurian, crispy cauliflower florets cooked in a sauce of ginger, soy and fresh Indian spices. I cant wait to go back!
A great experience! I have been here twice now and its top level! The service has been great and everyone is warm and welcoming. The food is amazing! I wont go anywhere else!
Great place. Great food. Great staff. Love this place. Thanks a lot.
Best indian in cambs
Such lovely service and dining experience. They were so kind and attentive especially with our three kids, bringing them coloring pages, balloons even. Everything was delicious and they helped us decide on portions and quantities. We will certainly return and recommend to others.
What an amazing place! Ill make it my traditional restaurant for Saturday lunch :)
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Probably some of the best curries Ive had in a long time and would recommend to anyone.
Amazing Indian fusion of a roast dinner. Absolutely delicious
Parking: On the street parking, Wheelchair accessibility: Yes it has Food : 4/5 |
We tried some different dishes to usual and we weren t disappointed. Staff very attentive. Vegetarian options: Not specifically marked but enough choice.
Loved Taj Tandoori. Our server, Mo, was very friendly and enthusiastic, and made sure my friends (who had travelled from overseas) had a great time. Food was excellent, particularly the fish bhuna and the yoghurt chat. Will be back again!
Excellent original Indian food. Always my pleasure!
Top class!
Great restaurant
Food was great but sitting at the table next to the refrigerator that staff have to open all the time and which is also brightly-lit isnt at all like in the pictures
Deee-licious. Good place to go in central Cambridge for a little celebration meal. P.s. Dont forget to bring your own alcoholic drinks - none served on the premises.
Food and service was amazing but the overpowering onion that made eyes sting let it down.
Tasty food
Wonderful from start (save room for two courses) to mint chocolates that come with the bill! A Cambridge treasure.
Love it. Just amazing food, lovely people
Went in today for brunch! Superb. Id say even better than a Dishoom breakfast. Highly recommend.
Best Tandoori Chicken and great portion as well!
Vegetarian options: Not much vegetarian dishes and mot authentic taste Food
Bit sweet korma but the spicy authentic dishes are great
great food
We had a Sunday lunch. It was a very nice twist on the Sunday roast. I will definitely go back again.
Been regular at the Taj for years , absolutely love it , this time though the onion bhajis blew me away , best I ve had there .
Lunch today was incredible! Bursts of flavour, attentive service and restaurant/toilets spotlessly clean. Third time of eating here and will most certainly be back!!
Excellent all round. Great food and amazing service. Would recommend to a friend.
Excellent customer service and delivery service is excellent
Tried the new Sunday roast dinner menu at Taj Tandoori and it was amazing! The food was delicious with great flavours. The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. Definitely recommend checking it out, can t wait to visit again.
Amazing food and very attentive staff. Loved the experience here! Will be back!
I was in Cambridge for a show I was working at and decided to walk here almost a mile in the rain based on good reviews I read. The clock turned 22:06 as I walked in, to 4 members of staff stood around and an empty restaurant. They asked what I wanted and I requested a table for one. They told me they were closed. I asked why the times online and on the door say they are open until 11pm, and was told the kitchen closes at 10pm but the restaurant closes at 11pm, but I could order a takeaway if I wanted one. I explained I was staying in a hotel for the night and couldn t really have a takeaway with no space to eat it, and no cutlery etc. Plus I would have had the best part of a mile walk back in pouring rain. I went to leave and then thought about what I was told. I asked if the kitchen is closed how come I can have a takeaway yet can t eat in the restaurant. Surely if the kitchen is closed you can t cook anything . As the member of staff who initially spoke to me struggled to think of something to say, another staff member interjected and said oh you can have a takeaway but only what we have left over . He offered me a chicken biryani or a lamb dish that happened to be the most expensive on the menu at £30.95, and said he could do onion bhajis as well. I said I didn t want to order that so he asked what I wanted. I explained what I wanted and that I also hoped to have a starter and dessert and was told that they couldn t do it. As I went to leave, I was then told that if I ordered the chicken biryani I could also sit be eat it in the restaurant. Based on the aforementioned situation I had already decided not to take my custom there. To add even more insult, upon leaving I looked online and the restaurant was still allowing orders for the full menu on their own website as well as through various other platforms (JustEat, Deliveroo etc.). Clearly they just couldn t be bothered to cook and didn t want to have a table in the restaurant as it had seemingly been a quiet night. If the kitchen times had been communicated in advance that would have been acceptable, however the fact that their story changed multiple times left a sour taste in my mouth as the staff couldn t just be honest and say they had had a quiet night and wanted to go home early. I don t know what they would have done had I ordered on one of the online platforms but it s not a good look the way they treated a potential customer - especially after I explained I had made a special journey there in the rain.
Very best food! Very good service, I recommend everyone to eat here!
Genuinely wonderful experience Thank you Food
Tasty meals!!
Tasty food and friendly service
A lovely friendly place to have a meal. The food was amazing
We came here a few days ago for my brother s birthday. They gave us some popadoms and a selection of dips as a starter on the house, and the waiter who served us was more than willing to share his recommendations with us. The food itself was amazing as well. As we were about to leave, they told us that we d forgotten something. We went back into the dining area and they brought my brother a small dessert with a sparkler as a surprise birthday treat! All in all, would highly recommend as not only is the food delicious, the service is incredible.
Great restaurant, love it here. Excellent food, BYO alcohol so really good value, friendly people. Can always recommend (for example!) railway curry, tarka daal, biryani, and just tried mackerel three ways, which was really special and different
Really friendly and attentive staff the food was really good, especially the lamb chops, it was so soft and tender all the curries we had were really good; lamb, prawn, bombay aloo and daal
Another amazing meal at the Taj
I stopped by on a whim because I saw a sign advertising a new brunch menu, and it exceeded my expectations. The Deshi breakfast was so delicious, all cooked freshly and definitely enough food to qualify as both breakfast & lunch - I m very full and very happy!
Chicken 65 was really good and curry s were great staff/owners were really friendly will be returning again
What a gem. Unique food. Top service!
Amazing food. Friendly stuff Place recommended Food
First time at Taj could not have been better- we had the new Sunday Roast menu. Its the best possible Anglo-South Asian food! Subtle and inventive with flavours, keeping the traditional english roast concept with just with the right amount of spices and kick to give it a really unique and satisfying finish. We had the lamb and they very kindly did a half-portion of chicken roast for kids. Really generous portion, the lamb was succulent and perfectly done. Had the pistachio crumble and ice cream for dessert, which also brings the fusion vibe. Staff and owner were really friendly and accommodating- well definitely be going back
Great value. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I regularly bring groups of clients visiting from overseas here and we are always so well looked after. Food is amazing, Ive never had a bad meal here.
Fantastic food, delicious and delicate flavours, beautifully presented by a team of excellent staff. The paneer was a particular highlight, and the quality of the ingredients evident throughout. The entire team are friendly and welcoming. It has a home-from-home feel. Especially grateful to the manager as he kept the door open late for us to ensure we had somewhere to eat. That kind of hospitality is rare to come across.
What can I say service and food fantastic
Just finished a fantastic meal at a great restaurant. Nan bread was a10/10 and could have just had that with the delicious Korma sauce. Would definitely go back for seconds! Staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. A winner!
Had the Garlic Chilli king prawn curry and it was the best prawn curry Ive ever had!!! Cant remember the name of the desert but it was a hot donut in syrup with ice cream. Just delish!! Staff was really nice as well, they helped me chose my curry and I was able to order it with less spice. I know I will come back on my next work trip to Cambridge.
We used to eat here a lot years ago - very regular diners pre-2020. Great food, great prices. Now the menu has changed, theres nothing much I like on it. Things like burgers are very poor and prices have shot up. Im disappointed and wont be back.
We love Taj! The welcome is always warm, the service is friendly and efficient and the food absolutely delicious, especially the railway curry. The chef made a special request for my son - a naanza - which was amazing and so kind, thank you! I recommend Taj to everyone and we are looking forward to eating there again soon. Kid-friendliness: The staff at Taj are always welcoming to our family (3 children) and always stop to have a chat with the children. The chef made a special request for my son after he found out my son liked pizza - a naanza! It was delicious and made it a really special evening - thank you!
We had an excellent meal at Taj Tandoori. A big thank you to all the staff for giving us our best experience of Indian food in Cambridge and a special thank you to Ameen who provided us with the best service we have had in years.
Came here for a last minute Taj fix all the way from Leicester. Tried the upcoming Hash brown Eggplosion! Poached egg inside hash brown and based with spinach. I highly recommend it when it releases very soon! Loved the loaded fries and mixed grill platter. The garlic naan was evenly cooked. Cosy atmosphere and our waiter Bektas gave us excellent service, keep it up buddy. Highly recommend.
Excellent service and delicious food. The attention to detail and hospitality from everyone at taj made it a standout experience. Highly recommended for both the food and the warm atmosphere.
Interesting but no alcohol
Delicious food, amazing service - thank you for welcoming us :)
This place is highly recommended! The staff were friendly and accomodating. They gave us reccomendations and even let us have free onion bhajis because it was our first time to be there. The ambiance was great. We personally love the Turkish/Morrocan chandeliers. And the food, so amazing. We had the railway mutton curry, this food just melts in your mouth with flavours bursting here and there.
The service was good and the staff very attentive. I felt the food was surprisingly bland compared to others I have had. I had the Chicken Biryani and it was cooked well but just lacked the flavor I normally expect.
Fabulous
Always lovely to visit this place. Great food, lovely staff and great service. If you have not been definitely visit. Good veggie food too.
The best curry in Cambridge and possibly UK!!
Too good. Excellent. Perfect, kind servers. We bring our own bottles because they dont sell alcohol and provide the glasses. Amazing ! Go ahead, dont look at the front
Absolutely amazing food, amazing service and the atmosphere was lovely. Only critique- and it s only small- we had a large table and they didn t let us know that our meal was delayed and they should have let us know. But they were lovely when we asked and they made sure that our delayed food was prioritised. The food came out soon after! If that was our own critique, it means they care and they look after customers. The food outweighed this and I would definitely go back again. Such a lovely establishment!
Amazing original taste and so kindful, hospitable and lovely people!
Excellent, tasty food served by very friendly and engaging staff. Highly recommended by Steve Martin .!
Delicious food and great service, will definitely be one of our regular restaurant
Fantastic place and very nice staff
Always excellent food and service! Thank you!
Amazing food, especially loved the Peshawari naan and brilliant friendly service, will definitely be back!
Very good food will come again
Food was incredible and everyone was really nice and helpful. I advice to ask for recommendations for dishes, as the ones I was offered I was not disappointed in. I will definitely come back.
Order was goofed up and staff realized 20 mins after taking the order. Tomato puree taste in multiple dishes, uncooked veg dish. No reaction/response from counter person after giving the feedback.
We were impressed by the quality of the products and the attention to detail. At first, the waiter told us about the allergens in the dishes and asked if we were intolerant of certain foods.
Horrible service. We ordered starter food so plates were served, we ate in it. The plates were not changed for main course. We had to eat the main course in the same plates with chicken bones in the same plates. I told the owner he said we don t change the plates as the restaurant is not fine dinning but street food. In India we serve Dogs in the same plates for all courses of food. Butter chicken did not have the taste of butter chicken, it taste as a different dish, no taste at all. Long wait for kitchen. Few customers in the restaurant but too much waiting time for all dishes. Food was just Luke warm , not hot. We don t know when it was prepared and kept. Waiters are not seen to serve. Need to wait for a while to see the waiter every time, even though there were only few customers not sure what s up when it s busy? Definitely wouldn t recommend anyone to waste your money and time. Rates are high but the portion served are not worth the price. It s Taj Cherry Hinton.
Dietary restrictions: Halal Food
We had a party of 7 19th February , (my partner s birthday) unfortunately with their drivers who deliverer their takeaway kept leaving the front door open so it was very uncomfortable eating when it was freezing that evening with gusts of cold air directly in our faces , the food was ok , unfortunately they didn t have lemonade as we was told we was not allowed to bring our own soft drinks so eventually I had to go over to the nearest shop to buy a bottle, it was very difficult to give a review when all of us was to cold to enjoy the evening. Would like to try another time but definitely not sit near the front window. Regards Wayne Nightingale
Been going here for years and every time the blood is out of the world
This place is undoubtedly one of Cambridges culinary gems! Ive visited multiple times, and its evident why it boasts an exceptional selection of dishes. The starters, especially the Chicken 65, were outstanding, and the Lamb Rogan Shepard s Pie took me by surprise with its own unique twist. The service is top-notch, while the people make the experience even more enjoyable and Im eagerly anticipating my next visit!
Bring your own alcohol. The serving staff were really helpful and offered modifications and dishes off the menu. I got the impression they really care about their food. I ordered a biriyani which was very good (I have had better TBH, but not often). Onion bhaji was lovely. The interior decor is simple but feel a little temporary, so the atmosphere is let down a bit, but to compensate prices are fair.
Lovely Indian takeaway/restaurant I had the chicken jalfrazi with rice and garlic man bread..big portions so make sure you re hungry .
Excellent food and service.
Brilliant family-run restaurant. Authentic food and unmatched service. Looking forward to attending again Kid-friendliness: Staff had a personal approach to the children. Very warm environment
Excellent meal for the whole family. Sayeed is just the perfect host and made top notch recommendations! A highlight of our trip to Cambridge! Very good evening out highly recommended Dietary restrictions: Sayeed made sure that all options were allergy friendly as well as in accordance with our preferences! Really good options were suggested Kid-friendliness: Lots of kids in the restaurant that looked and sounded happy as larks! Lots of mild options on the menu for delicate palettes Wheelchair accessibility: Noted that the wheelchair access was good
Recommendations were spot on! The popcorn lentils, the crispy kale, the mutton. And they fed the kids too, who cant deal with spice yet!
Pulled chicken tikka burger, absolutely scrumptious also the best butter chicken I have ever tried! Wow
Fabulous food...never been disappointed with choice. Lots of variety and great hosts...staff know what theyre doing...highly recommend this restaurant.
Fantastic food, friendly service and nice atmosphere.
Amazing restaurant. Food was outstanding. Service was very good. Great atmosphere. Many thanks for a great evening
Came here 13th Jan 2024, for father in laws 50th birthday, the staff are amazing, polite and understanding, and always like to have a laugh and a joke with you, they are extremely accommodating and always have a recommendation for you to try, its a lovely atmosphere and has decorations and lighting to get you into the dining spirit. Their food is amazing! Cooked amazingly and is so flavoursome! We drove over an hour away and will definitely be back! Kid-friendliness: Our 3 year old was with us and was very happy with food/environment
We had an amazing dining experience at the Taj, the food and presentation is exceptional and demonstrates passion. Great selection on the menu. The hospitality and service is warm and welcoming. Both Amin and Chef Julal we had the pleasure of meeting are such lovely guys. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly restaurant.
Highly recommend this restaurant firstly the food was delicious, the chicken was tender and juicy with a good size portion. The host/owner I think his name was Syed is a fantastic host, passionate, very knowledgeable in helping choose our dishes with bags of positive vibes! His daughters were helping that evening 21.12.22 and it was lovely to see a family business run with character and authenticity. If this was my local Id be here every week. Thanks again!
Outstanding food. Garlic naan and tikka marsala .. amazing
Amazing food, and customer service was brilliant. Would pick to go here over anywhere else in Cambridge! Thank you for a lovely evening!
Highly recommended! The service was attentive, and our food was recommended by the waiter. The result was surprising in terms of appearance and taste. Very cost-effective!
One of the best places to eat in Cambridge
By far the best and most authentic Indian food I ve had in Cambridge yet. Overall a really good restaurant, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend!!
Fantastic food even kindly created a few off menu items. Best curry I ve had and friendly service too. Highly recommend.
Delicious and staff were friendly
Incredible customer service, all smiles from the moment we walked in to us paying our bill. Complimentary starter and everything was very flavourful and staff very knowledgeable about their menu! Loved every spoon/fork full! #dukebitez #ukfoodie #foodie #indianfood #dinner
Fantastic high quality Indian and Bangladesh food
Just go there, pretty sure you wont regret it, highly recommended
I accepted the invitation to visit Taj Tandoori on Cherry Hinton Road in Cambridge and oh my days, Im glad we made the trip Never have I experienced such a relaxing and friendly atmosphere which immediately settled any anxieties I would typically face when visiting new environments We were made to feel like royalty by the older brother of the duo and kindly received recommendations to the famous delicacies of this well established restaurant This wasnt your typical menu of different meats with similar sauces, they have integrated their childhood cheat meals into a fusion of foods Pulled Chicken Tikka Burger Pure Genius Above and beyond was taken to a new level with a firework ice cream birthday surprise for my Wife and a special intervention to offer a bespoke sauce to accompany my Tandoori feast If Asian food is your thing please, please, please visit the Taj, disappointment is not an option
Best Indian Street food ever. Lovely atmosphere. Great service. Great staff.
Bad service. First the server forgot the order then after repeating multiple times that we needed one papad for our daughter was charged for 3 papads and on top for 3 pickles. Never seen any other Indian restaurant do that.
Excellent meal with the server making recommendations as to trying something a bit more adventurous! My missus reckons its the best curry shes ever had. Id recommend this restaurant highly!
Very nice food , arrived quickly also.
Wow! Hands down Best Indian in Cambridge. Staff were very friendly and professional.
I ordered indo Chinese take away today, worst ever portion of the food I got, don t opt for the takeaway , very less quantity and price of the dish is too high. not worth it, veritable manchurian is more like malai kofta, The chilli garlic rice had no trace of garlic. If u order take away, be ready to cook food at home; Vegetarian options: I ordered indo Chinese take away today, worst ever portion of the food I got, don t opt for the takeaway , very less quantity and price of the dish is too high. not worth it, veritable manchurian is more like malai kofta, The chilli garlic rice had no trace of garlic. Found this on trip advisor for best vegan restaurant. Enjoyed a great meal for vegan and non vegan. Super friendly and attentive staff who gave excellent recommendations on the menu. We had found out it was BYOB so that was a welcome addition. Cant fault anything. The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, but also the food is really tasty and they may make suggestions to tweak your choice, such as a little spicier, or sides that go well with it - to make it to your taste Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian options but they are also willing to swap meat for veg for some items on the menu
Good food
After moving to cambridge a year ago, I can unequivocally say that Taj Tandoori has the best Indian food in Cambridge. We are vegetarian and curry fanatics, and over the past year have sampled at least 15 or more indian restaurants in town. Taj far outperforms the rest consistently, although there were a few close competitors. We have a high bar for curries, and this place always exceeds it. Bravo!
Food was delicious. Quiet place, great service!
Excellent, amazing food and service!!!
One of the best curry houses in Cambridge, not licensed but welcome to bring your own wine.
Always have the best curries from here, favourite curry house one of the few places in the UK that can make a properly spicy curry as well as delicious!!!!!
Overall food was excellent. The service was a bit slow and the waiter used some foul language in a banter type of way that felt a bit inappropriate. Other than that it was good.
Had a group booking for my birthday, amazing service and delicious food left all 8 of us feeling very satisfied! Thank you so much for the free side dish too. BYOB is fab!!
Best indian restaurant in Cambridge! Service and food are always amazing!
Canny spicy like.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Cambridge. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. From the starter to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything was OUTSTANDING!!! Absolutely THE BEST meal we had while in Cambridge. Highly recommend! I would like to come back here again and again :)))))))
Always really friendly. Top quality food. Highly recommend
Good Indian food, very affable host
Went with friends here, I had the chicken 65 and the tikka loaded fries from this place yesterday. Ended up with awful food poisoning, still feeling bad now, and the food didn t even taste good. Would not recommended
Amazing place for food, really liked the food. We got the Tandoori chicken wings and popcorn Dali for starters. Both were really nice. The Railway mutton curry with naan was a little expensive but 100% worth it. Would recommend to all who s like to try : )
Vegetarian options: The best food I had with the best service one can get. The chef personally cater your needs and makes sure it is delivered.
Fantastic food, wonderful service! I can t recommend it highly enough. Even the vegan dish was amazing. My girlfriend, who is a curry newbie was blown away! Thanks team Taj!
The food was quite good and authentic as far as I can tell.
Brilliant service - kale chaat and popcorn Dall
Stunning food, lovely customer service!
Ordered the chicken korma, thought the sauce flavour was nice but it was a bit too sweet for me. (In response to restaurant, I ve had many kormas and I know it s a sweet dish but this was overly sweet in my opinion). The chicken quality was rather poor and could ve been more tender. I didn t enjoy it massively. The portions were quite small too and the paper packaging was annoying. The rice was decent but had a strange flavour to it. The peshwari naan was fairly good but a little doughy and a bit too sweet (again, I know it s meant to be sweet but this was too much). The poppadoms were good (I didn t find nothing good ). An alright Indian but nothing compared to some of the other Indian takeaways in Cambridgeshire (have edited out the better recommendations in accordance with google policy). Cambridge itself has a fairly poor selection to choose from though sadly. Edit: calling me difficult to please is extremely unprofessional, I am entitled to express my opinion and there are much better places to eat. I would easily give 5 stars and highly recommend other better Indian places.
Great food, very friendly and helpful staff (dont hesitate to ask for recommendations!), all for a very reasonable price. Strongly recommend
Taj Tandori holds a special place in my heart. We were constant visiters for the half price Mondays during Uni time. It s awesome!
The best Indian in Cambridge, the food is amazing, been 3 times in last couple months and food has been perfect ever time, The service is 10/10, they know the dishes so well and give recommendations for what you might enjoy. Look forward to going everytime.
Recommended, excellent staff and very delecious food. A must in Baden Baden.
An absolute gem! Hands down the best Indian in Cambridge area. Go here for authentic Indian food. Been here many times and always a great level of service! Friendly and go the extra mile. Serves a range of dishes, but really excels on Indian British fusion and elevating classic Indian dishes. Parking: Parking on some side roads and paid parking complex at lesions centre abou 10 min walk away.
We had three types of food for lunch as recommended by the restaurant owner. To be honest, they were delicious. According to the restaurant owner, their food is halal
The front of house is amazing! I was treated as if I was a friend. The curry is the best I have had in months, will definitely be back Food
Very good food, good service and friendly staff. Bring your own alcohol, or buy at the pub right next to the restaurant.
A solid 5 star. I haven t had a lot of Indian food before, and the staff were super friendly and they gave good recommendations. My personal favorite is the lamb! This is so far my fav Indian restaurant in Cambridge. They are really busy so make sure to make a reservation in advance.
The waiter gave my the right tip Crispy Kale Chaat as starter and byriani as main. The byriani was slightly chillier than expected but it tasted fantastic. Food
Delicious
Always good
I went with my partner for a dinner, I really enjoyed the whole experience, the owner is really nice and the food was amazing, I would recommend this place if you are looking for Indian cuisine.
Excellent Indian restaurant. I discovered the place upon arrival in Cambridge and came for take-away only but even carried back home, the food was really, really tasty and exactly what I had been hoping for.
Arrived just after 8pm and ordered promptly with lovely waitress. Starter arrived after about 40 minutes. Then no main until almost 10pm. Staff were pretty disinterested despite 2 other tables having arrived, ordered and left. Food was fine but nothing special considering the price. Wouldn t come again but am sure under different circumstances might be a better experience for others.
one of the best restaurants in cambridge
Every time we visit the Taj it s a pleasure. The Taj has been a family favourite destination for over 30 years. This family run business has managed to keep evolving over all of those years, and is the place to eat if ever in Cambridge. The service is beyond good, the guys really take time when ordering to listen and talk with you about your preferences. They make suggestions with no pressure, no and they are always right. The atmosphere is buzzy but also super chilled at the same time. I simply cannot commend this restaurant highly enough. Oh and to top it all off it s BYO so no pressure to spend extortionate amounts on drinks. Go and enjoy the food and have a fab evening guaranteed !
The starters, especially, were a work of genius!
Wonderful starters! Really original menu. Very well worth going to try out all their different ideas. BYOB makes it very affordable.
The owner is great, always recommends us amazing stuff off the menu (and often cheaper stuff than we originally picked so you know he s being genuine). I love the kale chaat and popcorn daal, I d have never tried them if it wasn t for his recommendations. They re great, best restaurant in Cambridge no exaggerations
Great food, a genuine attention to detail that makes this place special
Amazing food. Amazing service. Well priced! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the owner was amazing too! We had a wonderful meal and will absolutely come back soon! Food : 5/5
Great Indian restaurant
Fantastic restaurant, every time I visit the food and service are 5*. The staff are very friendly, always make you welcome and give great recommendations on what to order. Every dish I have tried is amazing, especially the chicken tikka lakab, absolutely sublime. By far the best Indian restaurant in Cambridge, probably my favourite restaurant overall. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Food very good will be back
Top shelf material, really good food, friendly and informative staff.
I ate Indian food for the second time. Ill remember this one. Until next time. A great menu. Samosa, popcorn dall, krispy kale chaat and tandoori chicken wings :) Lamb jalfrezi, mango lassi...they are all perfect...
Rather than the textbook list of anglicised dishes we have come to expect from an establishment with Tandoori in the name, the Taj Tandoori brings something different and way way better. Bangladeshi and Indian street food, authentic dishes and fusion dishes are on the menu. The dishes contain a great array of quality ingredients providing a kaleidoscope of colours, flavours and fragrances. Caters excellently for those that prefer vegetables to meat. The service was exceptional both in terms of friendliness and efficiency.
staffs curry is completely out of this world, no duds, friendly/funny staff - get your life together and go
Very nice place to visit.
Excellent food and very good help from senior staff. The best curry in 10+ years in Cambridge. Went with a mate on a Monday night. Given how good the food is, the place was quiet. I ordered Behl Puri which I ve never had before - flavours were really enhanced by the chutney it came with. The main was their railway station mutton. The meat fell of the bone and tasted wonderful. The curry sauce had distinct flavours (very u usual for Cambridge) and tasted very close what I ve had when working in India (I had asked for something most like an authentic Indian dish). The garlic naan was better than most I ve had in the UK, closer to the fried (?) naans I ve had in India. The mushroom rice my mate ordered was lovely too! Definitely going back and happy to pay out of my own pocket rather than due to business travel.
Incredible, unique dishes and down-to-earth, attentive staff. Unmatched!
Fantastic
My favourite Indian place. Go in person.! Its worth it. Chicken tikka lakab (I hope I wrote it correctly) is my absolute favorite: better than any korma I have had.
Delicious food (the railway mutton curry was to die for) and friendly staff. We will definitely be back in the near future!
The floor was like an ice rink. Several of my party nearly slipped and another party who arrived were talking about it as we left. It was like there was oil on the floor tiles. Food and service were great however
The best curry house in Cambridge. We visited for the 4th time on 28/10. Amazing food. The staff recognise us ever time we come, and it s a new discovery for us. They made us feel at home and even let us order off menu. I d go as far to say as it s the best restaurant in town.
Staff very friendly and accommodating
Service from the owner was amazing and recommendations were spot on! Everything was full of flavour food was literally melting in our mouths. Plenty of menu choices, the owner even served us with a dish off the menu which was amazing. Overall atmosphere is great as you feel passion about food and service from the owner, but the rest of the team needs to pick it up a notch regarding serving as they didnt pay much attentive attention to the guests. We as a couple definitely recommend the venue. Ourselves we are going to come back to try the rest of the amazing looking dishes.
Cant fault this restaurant, the chef is amazing and the food is divine. The crispy kale is delightful, and the railway curry is heaven thank you Syed
There was a reason why I picked this restaurant, when choosing a place for my husbands birthday dinner-all the 5* reviews. And we were not disappointed, in fact, it has actually exceeded our expectations. I think this must have been the only Cambridge restaurant, we have visited, where the service was so personalised. The owner himself came over to talk to us, gave us food recommendations (you must try crispy kale chaat!) and was so lovely and welcoming. The food was brilliant, the service (as mentioned above) - great, will definitely be back to try some other dishes :) Thank you Syed and his team.
Amazing South Asian restaurant. I have been here twice now, love the chicken dishes. The staff are fabulous, the owner whose father founded the restaurant (it s a family run business) went an extra three miles with the food and service. Staff are not too pushy which is great, giving you enough space, and the atmosphere is very cool indeed.
What a lovely find! I forgot to ask your name but thank you for looking after my son & me last night. You know you are on to something when you have an enthused and passionate owner giving his patrons the personal touch! The starters you picked were just right; loved the Bel Puri especially. The Railway Mutton dish and chicken was also very good. It did occur to me driving home, whether you made the mutton dish hotter than your 4 chillis (we were more concerned that 4 chillis may have been too hot for us!!!). Anyway, if it was hotter than 4 chillis, then 3/4 chillis will work for us next time. Having said that it was fine as the chicken curry balanced the fiery heat of the mutton. We will be back soon.
Probably the best and most authentic Bangladeshi/Indian meal Ive ever had. Non standard menu exhuburally explained and served. Superb value for money. Only quibble on a freezing evening was that the heating could have been more effective but the food warmed me up.
Probably the best Indian food that I have had in Cambridge so far. The service was amazing and the food delicious. If you want to dine on a Saturday you are likely to need a reservation, but Sundays are less busy. They do not serve alcohol but you are allowed to bring your own. I ll definitely be back.
Great service and friendly staff. Really enjoyed the staff curry. Dont forget to bring your own beers/wine.
Lovely food and engaged but relaxed staff.
