Entrance on 50, 60 Station Rd, Mill Park Rd, Cambridge CB1 2JH, United Kingdom
Indian restaurant that blends the authentic with the inventive to create fresh cuisine near Cambridge Station. Open for dining and takeaway.
The overall experience was good. Setting: 8/10 Would recommend to go with friends during lunch or dinner time. They have lunch menus with reasonable prices. Authenticity: 9/10 The variety of food choices including nuns gives an authentic vibe. Chiefs are mainly Indian. ✨Highlight: Other Options may depend on personal choices, but 🍟Masala Chips (10/10) is a to have as long as one does not hate potatoes. The spice into the well-fried yet not oily potatoes was a thumbs up. Mango Lassi (8.5/10): creamy texture with cardamom undertone, good to accompany the spice. Hyderabadi Lamb Keema (7.5/10): the wrap is a good one for lunch, with well mixed vegetables, but the lamb was a bit dry. Chicken Taka Tak (8/10): from the brief taste that it’s a typical chicken masala, and conventionally performed. Express Thali and Biryani were also ordered. Express Thali might be recommended to taste multiple types in one dish. “Choose from Kadai Paneer or Murgh Tikka Masala with Dal Makhani, Roti, Rice, Far far, Raita and Pickle served on a traditional thali” ✨Reminder: many options may contain quite a mount of spice. Scoring Standard: Cambridge
A lovely Indian restaurant very close to Cambridge railways Station. The food was tasty though the lunch menu was very limited.
- Taste 9/10 I got Chicken Masala and butter nan and both are good; Authenticity 8.5/10 by my Indian friend; Service 6/10 A little slow and hard to call but staffs are nice, we didnt get water until we asked for it (5 mins after food came); Cleanness 10/10; Portion with the price 6/10 it is pricey with the small portion, My friend suggests that it would be good place to bring a date as it kinda pricey and dont have to eat a lot; Vibe 7.5/10 Good vibe in general but not giving India vibe, Signal is very low to none here but there is free wifi that you can ask.
This was our second visit to Cambridge and Tava Kitchen, and once again, it did not disappoint! Our first experience left a lasting impression, so we were eager to return. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed, and as we had booked ahead, they promptly asked for our name and seated us right away. The service was excellent, with the waitresses being attentive and friendly throughout our meal, making the entire dining experience pleasant. The food was served in good time, and we went for the Tikka Masala, which we requested to be spicy – and it was spot on! The curry had exceptional depth of flavor, hitting all the right notes and really awakening the taste buds. The rotis were a perfect complement – light, fluffy, and served warm. We prefer them over naan as they are less filling but equally delicious. Overall, the atmosphere was cozy, and the dining experience was consistently good. Tava Kitchen is definitely a place we will return to when visiting Cambridge again! Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our dinner in Tawa Kitchen. We had Chicken Biryani, Chicken Korma, Dhal Makhani and Mango Lassi. The Chicken Biryani is my new favorite. It was flavourful and spicy and reminded me of the Biryanis I had back in Dubai. The portion was just right. I was initially hesitant to order as I thought it would be too much but it was just right. My partner ordered the Korma. It was very flavourful but I preferred the Biryani. The Dhal Makhani was a bit bitter. Not sure if that was intentional! I tried Dhal Makhani only one other time before and it was not as bitter. I really enjoyed it. This one I did not enjoy as much though. It was too bitter for me but it may depend on personal preference. Overall, a good experience and definitely a must-try!
Was a bit of a letdown. We went in without a reservation and were promptly given a seat and a high chair. The service was nice and quick even though the place was very busy. The ambience was quite nice. We ordered chicken biryani, tariwala gosht, Malabar paratha and masala chai. The paratha and the gravy were excellent, but the lamb pieces in the gravy didn't feel great. The chicken biryani was also quite average. The tea was the worst, the spices were too much and too wrong, felt like an Ayurvedic concoction. Overall, not too bad a place if you order the right dishes. But there are better Indian eat-in and takeaway restaurants in Cambridge at a better price point.
I recently had lunch at Tawa Kitchen in Cambridge, and it was fantastic! The flavours were vibrant and the customer service was outstanding—attentive and friendly. We had Chicken Biriyani, Express Thaali, some Samosas, and, of course, mango lassi! Each dish was beautifully prepared and presented. Our lunch was so impressive that we can’t wait to come back for dinner. Highly recommended!
One of my favourite indian restaurants in the city, with pretty authentic dishes. It's not the cheapest place, also not very expensive - but you definitely get the quality that you pay for. A lot of great meat and vegetarian options. Would highly recommend booking in advance, especially towards the end of the week/weekends. There is no parking at the restaurant but parking is available on the roads nearby (Tenison road, Devonshire road). This is paid parking between 9 and 5pm but free outside of these times.
Lovely food
This was my third visit. I must say the food is below average in taste, quality and authenticity. Waiters lack training and good etiquette. Some of the food is worse than store bought meals. Hope they invest in better chefs and staff.
First visit, service was a little slow at first but improved. Food was delicious but be warned: the korma is spicy! Couple of us got the korma thinking it would be mild and it wasnt! Asked for some yoghurt which we were given. I would advise asking what dishes are mild when ordering. However the food was tasty and we all enjoyed our meals. Good cocktails and mocktails as well. Would definitely eat there again.
My role was to get tasty nutritious meals to three people key to a weekend of intense training. I couldnt have had a better source of food, both eating in and taking away. Helpfulness on booking 10/10 Warmth and quality of food on eating in 10/10 Presentation of dishes in the take-away 10/10!! (Boxes and tubs thoughtfully chosen to suit the meal.) Thank you.
Just writing this review makes my mouth water. Tawa is very different to your standard UK curry house . This is proper Indian street food with flavours that make your taste buds dance. Sooo many good dishes on the menu. My advice is to go with a group of 4 people are more and share loads of dishes. The more dishes you can try, the better. Vegetarian options: So many good vegetarian dishes. The staff are really knowledgeable and have adapted dishes to help us try the more of the menu.
First visit came with a friend. Food confirmed the mixed reviews online, we both agreed 7 out of 10 max. Highlight was the bhaji starter for flavour although this came warm not hot. My friend liked his veg kofta dish but for me the mains were all too bland, especially the Paneer Korai which I sent back as it was warm on arrival, not hot, and tasted as if the Paneer and vegetables had been warmed up in a sauce. The disappointing thing for me is that I know the food could be so much better. Too much is obviously prepared well in advance to cater for a volume of customers. My perception is that there are too many front of house staff and insufficient chefs cooking to order. Must try harder.
The worst food I have had. How can they manage to screw up daal and make biryani sweet? With the prices they are charging, the quality and flavor is not there.
Poppadoms did not come with only salad and only very small pots of mango sauce and another yellow sauce, did ask for onion and was brought a good amount of red onion plus also mango sauce. Had the slow cooked lamb in gravy rice and naan the food was tasty but expensive for what it was.
I visit Tawa kitchen frequently for few reasons. It never disappoints, food altough Indian has a bit of fusion approach and Kale chat is delicious. Service is fast, people dedicated and friendly. I can strongly recommend it.
Absolutely delicious! Legit Indian food, not the usual stuff. Great ambience & service too
Had a chance to do dinner at tawa kitchen with my guests. The atmosphere was good The food quanitity was so so so bad , like it was just not enough for a single person too . The taste was so bad . Idk who are they people who gave 5 star to this restaurant. Not recommended anyway .
Hidden gem right by the railway station. Not the typical conveyer belt Indian menu, inventive dishes served quickly and efficiently, slightly higher prices fully justified by the quality and flavour. The Indian Scotch egg starter is a revelation!
Today i had a dinner in Tawa kitchen , the food was Good but the service was worst ! We had to ask to clear the table ..we were getting ignored to take orders so at last we decided not to have desserts!
I had my hopes up coming to this place after receiving personal recommendations and also after reading the reviews, however got a little disappointed with the dishes we ordered, one starter and two mains, nothing seemed to be hitting the spot and some starters have the same sauce and base as mains so thank you for the waitress for pointing it out :) lifesaver ! We got chicken starter , lamb main which the meat wasn t too bad at all, properly cooked just seemed to be overloaded with spices and I mean , all I could taste was a strong garam masala in every single bite I had. Topped up with rather mild creamy paneer dish since we really wanted to LIKE that place , literally. I must mention one of the BEST NAANS I ever tasted Amazing and super friendly service regardless and great tips on the menu
The restaurant is rather cramped and feels like you are sitting on top of each other. The food is fine. Nothing special at all but fills a hole. The toilet situation is terrible. 1 working toilet and people going on the street because it s so busy. I wouldn t rush back but if I was desperate for a curry it s and didn t want to use the toilet, it s fine.
Utterly delicious and delightful Onam festival feast. 22 things to try on a banana leaf and each one full of distinct flavour! We thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely staff.
Quick visit and were in a rush but amazing food and service and enjoyed the lunch, attentive staff with a smile and food was yummy.
Atmosphere is nice , ambience is good Food is bland. Dishes were cold when arrived. Naan is not authentic from tandoor. ITS JUST a naan bread we get it from tesco. Mysore lamb dish was nice .. taste good. Chicken tikka masala not upto the mark.. bland..
Food was delicious . Staff is friendly . Veg options are good Food
Although the atmosphere and service were good, food did not make me wanting more. The taste for me felt bit too westernized
Very yummy Indian food i love to visit this restaurant
Great place to have Indian dishes in Cambridge
Food was good. Nice place to go with family.
Its a lovely place - great menu, very friendly - not cheap, and the food for me lacked a salty rich taste - but I note it is a healthy spin on Indian food so my taste buds may need to adjust! Overall a lovely experience. Enjoyed the Mocktail!
This is a fantastic, unusual and very welcoming little restaurant. My husband and I ended up here by chance after spending a day at the Airshow. What an incredible find this restaurant was. The food was delicious- fresh, tasty and very different to any Indian restaurant that I have been to before. We had a lamb dish that was out of this world unfortunately I can t remember the name of the dish. The owner is a very lovely lady who was happy to describe how she produced the amazing flavour (coal smoked in a brazier no less). The decor was great- fresh, modern and very clean. Food service was quick but clearly cooked to order. It was just so nice - I can t express how good it was. Everything about this place just rocks!
Recommended by a friend and totally worth trying! Good portions, great care, amazing taste.
Lovely dinner, very good Indian cusine and friendly and attentive service. Fair quality- price ratio. Nice interior. The place looks like its very well managed. Menu is well marked and it was easy to spot gluten-free options. We would recommend this place and we plan to come back again. Dietary restrictions: GF
Awesome authentic food recommended by my Indian friends! The Thali lunch deal is very good, especially if you ask for extra spicy and chilies. On my last visit, we tried 3 main dishes, all very delicious. The lamb curry is my favorite among the three. Too bad it s not on the lunch menu. Naans are more like flatbread than pita bread. Parathas are just great. The sapphire Earl Grey tea is something special and a nice upgrade of the regular English earl grey. I d also recommend the mango lassi for a layered milkshake-like but much more fun taste.
Expensive if you go all out but the lunch time meal deal is packed with flavour and a great deal. Full menu is equally nice if you have the budget, with a good selection of tea and other beverages Staff work hard and want people to enjoy there time here. Ideal location close to the station
We had a lovely dinner on Sunday night and would recommend this restaurant - a must. We will be dining there again next time we are in Cambridge. Food
Excellent meal with good service at a reasonable price for the quality of food on offer. I have also been to Tawa Lounge in Histon and can highly recommend eating there as well.
A lovely atmosphere with nice decor and friendly staff. The masla chips are a must to try. Avoid the mushrooms spinach curry, it was not worth it. The coconut petis was awesome. The starter portions were very small considering the high price. Drinks were lovely, have a try of the mango lassi.
i didnt like the curry it was too sweet didnt taste of much else definitely wouldnt go back
Food was authentic and delicious, however portions are on the smaller side. We had to order the same dish couple times as it wasn t enough. Portions are for 1 person only and not for sharing with a second person. Overall good service and location. Easily accessible.
The flavours were authentic and the dishes were not too spicy. The staff were cordial and attentive and the overall experience was very pleasant. I would surely visit again!
this restaurant was on my list for a long time for indian but tried it finally yesterday, i had in starters kachori chaat and coconut patis which were really good, but little disappointed with mains , bread naan expected to be authentic one but it was kulcha based.Otherwise taste is good. Must try lassi
Most of the vegetarian items are frozen. Tried dal makhani and naan, the taste was way below average. Staff were nice and friendly. The restaurant ambience was very noisy and crowded.
I ve eaten Tawa s food both in-house and at home, and it s always good. I m docking them two stars, though, for the pitiful portion of rice that arrived - this third of a box of boiled rice (pictured) cost £3.60. Come on, Tawa - rice is not expensive. You can do better.
I placed an order for five distinct items for dinner. One of the worst tasting things Ive ever had is the biryani, which is actually just tomato rice The other items I got, however, were excellent. Lamb curry, coriander Nan, chilli chicken, and onion Bhajji & couple of desserts.
I have used Tawa Kitchen a few times with my family & office friends. The food & atmosphere are great. Tawa food has never disappointed us. Some of the notable food items which we liked are Mysore Lamb, Chicken Chettinad, Nellore Fish Curry, Dal Makhani. And if you are not sure just ask their staff. Tawa staff are very friendly and caring. Hope you have a great time at Tawa Kitchen!
Excellent Indian with a different style of dishes. Service is really good.
Good service
The venue is nice, great staff and service good. Felt a little rushed at time with the push to take the orders for the starters, mains, and deserts. The lamb chops and chilli chickens starters highly recommend. The talapia fish mains with the malabar paratha must have. Its was nice and spicy with the fish perfect. The desert I had was the red carrot halva with kulfi was not good as it looked and I thought it would be. The kulfi was yum the halva not my thing. Pistachio cake was great as it looked. Rich and tasty. Very recommend. The rum Chai cocktail was a delight. You can easily have several of those. The Indian Chai was surprisingly nice. Overall a good place for a meal.
A very popular Indian restaurant, conveniently located near the Cambridge station. Food was all very good - made with excellent quality ingredients, very well presented and tastes heavenly. A lot of choice too. I would recommend booking ahead - Tawa is in big demand!
Fantastic restaurant with excellent service. Home made parathas were outstanding !
Amazing food
I decided to pop in as a last minute decision as Id not been here before. The staff were very accommodating considering it was Saturday evening and I was quickly found a table. I opted for the onion and aubergine bhaji and Persian pomegranate chole, along with the mango lassi which was the perfect accompliment to my meal. Service was quick and the food was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this place if you are passing. I will definitely be back soon and bringing my partner so he can also experience this fine food.10/10 Vegetarian options: The Persian pomegranate chole is one of the best dishes ever
Absolutely amazing food. Try the Chaat with Crispy Kale, you wont be disappointed!
Delicious food, friendly atmosphere well worth a visit.
Excellent food and great service Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Each of the dishes on the menu included allergen matrix making it easy for those with dietary restrictions to choose.
Ordered our meal at 6pm it is now 8pm and we are still waiting
Superb and authentic food offer. Great service. Happy days
Delicious! I was pleasantly surprised to discover the Tawa Kitchen and would definitely go back. I had the paneer dish which I really enjoyed.
good authentic Indian food, very flavourful and good selection of vegetarian options. Very generous portion sizes as well. Definitely a place to check out when in cambridge!
Amazing food.
Quick service and nice food
Over rated in my opinion. Service lacking, most expensive restaurant of this kind I have been to. It was nice but not worth the service and money. 12.5% tip included on bill excessive given the service. Nobody asked how it was or gave me a chance to explain how some dishes needed improvement. Not what you expect for the money.
Welcoming, friendly & helpful staff. Delicious food with excellent selection of authentic indian dishes. Would live to see more verity options on the menu though! They also have a wide selection of alcoholic & nonalcoholic beverages. Must try !
Great new place in Cambridge handily near the station. More authentically Indian than the flock wallpaper brigade and better value than Dishoom.
Beautiful fresh food, attentive service and a real positive energy atmosphere. We had such a lovely work social here. Allergies chart just provided on the back of menu would make my husband feel looked after so Ill be bringing him here next! Thank you so much. Vegetarian options: Good choice for everyone Dietary restrictions: My husband wouldnt feel like he is being awkward to ask for the allergies menu, because its just part of the menu. Thank you
One of the best quality Indian dishes I have eaten in England. Very nice place and atmosphere and helpful and lovely service. Will be coming back.
Wonderful food...very attentive waiting on team. Would have been 5 stars...if only they had offered us a dessert Food
Superb little restaurant tucked away near the train station. Me and my partner ordered for takeaway, and it says on their website to allow for an hour between ordering and collection. When we arrived it was very busy, but that tells you all you need to know about the quality. Food was immaculate, full of flavour, and the perfect amount of spice. Rice was cooked to perfection. Nan was one of the best Ive had, will definitely be returning to eat inside, although it seems booking is necessary due to the popularity!
Excellent food, friendly staff. I have eaten Indian food all over, including India, and I have to say the Tawa is very close to the top of the list. Highly recommend
This place is obviously the place to be seen in Cambridge. It was packed with more waiting to be seated. I had the Lamb Mysore which was alright but rather dry for my liking, and tasted mainly of salt, maybe that was the style of the dish. They must be doing something right as everyone in Cambridge loves it, but they haven t had a curry made by our lass. I pity them.
One of the best restaurants in Cambridge, i would highly recommend this to all.
Totally ignored by 5 members of staff who just wandered past us. Service was totally non existent. We didnt even get an opportunity to order so we left. Shame as the food looked quite good.
AMAZING food, amazing service, would highly recommend it ALL especially the prawn curry and the kale chat. UNREAL. We will be back.
Brilliant friendly service and tasty food
Absolutely delicious, modern place, friendly staff, everything was just great!
If youre near come here.
Nice Masala Chai (Tea). Felt awesome.
Good food, yet suboptimal service. If you don t keep ordering more food, it s time for them to rush you out
Really enjoyed a recent visit to Tawa. We had the lamb chops and chicken 50/60 as a starter - both excellent. For mains we had mysore lamb and chicken chettinad with a side of rice, dhal and a garlic naan. There was plenty of food and all delicious! The lamb dish had quite a distinctive taste which meant I probably couldnt have finished the whole dish on its own, but I think this is personal preference and sharing worked well. We did have to ask for tap water a few times and noticed other tables also struggling to get tap water, I think this was because it was a full service on Saturday evening, did not detract from the overall experience. Great location near the station.
Lovely staff. Very kind and helpful. Amazing food.
Absolutely great meal and super service. Bookings essential as it was totally full all night.
It could get crowded during peak hours so booking recommended. The food was nice though the chicken briyani was not up to par..
Lovely place, lovely people, lovely food!
Amazing food - quick friendly and efficient service as well :) very useful allergens list on back of menu! Very busy Thursday night booking ahead is a must as a small venue. Will definitely come back next time I am in Cambridge Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options
Outstandingly good food! A huge selection where you can eat everything and still be delighted. Well be back next time were in Cambridge.
Overall five stars but that s being slightly generous. Scotch egg was way overdone. Should ve been slightly runny but it was basically nuked. Service was very hit and miss. Seemed like they were training a couple newbies and it was rougher. Very convenient location right by the train station.
I had a fantastic meal here last night. My friend accidentally booked the wrong date and the place was packed but they kindly squeezed us in and we were made to feel very welcome. We were recommended the okra nibbles to go with our poppadoms, and they were crispy and morish. 4 (3 omnivores and a veggie) shared a selection of dishes including yoghurt and pomegranate topped chaat with crispy kale, smoky aubergine, prawn curry, dal makhani, and beautiful flaky parathas. The lamb dishes all sounded delicious but I didnt miss meat, it was great to be able to share as many dishes as possible. All so good we carried on eating even after we were too full, and we then couldnt resist dessert. I also loved the chai espresso martini! This was my 4th visit but definitely not my last
Nice atmosphere, overall polite staff and the food was tasty. However, in the 2 hours we were there, probably 20 times the staff came to the table to ask if we want anything else, after the 3rd time we finally picked up the hint to quickly pay the bill and leave (or keep ordering more stuff). We still hadnt finished our beer, and it felt like we were made to feel uncomfortable for not leaving already. It is one thing if were told This table is free until 7:30, its another thing to be made to feel uncomfortable for not speed drinking your beer to free up the table. After all, it is a nice, not inexpensive Indian restaurant, not a fast food diner, the maximising table turnover shouldnt be at the expense of customers comfort. And of course the 12.5% service charge which I wish I didnt give, but didnt want to make a deal in front of my friend who booked the place for us.
Amazing food, incredible flavours, imaginatively served. The passion of the friendly owners shows in every dish.
This place did not have chicken tawa I expected however we had some of the best vegetarian dish. The food was very delicious, staff were kind too.
This is a superb place to dine at. I had a chicken biryani, shared some Mysore lamb and some fabulous chips. The service was top class and the atmosphere was great. Vegetarian options: There is a vegetable biryani, plus other vegetable dishes.
Pretty nice place near the station. Does more interesting curries and such than a standard Indian in the UK. Service was fast and friendly. I was slightly disappointed by the Murgh Masala. Maybe being a Masala they assume people dont expect much given the Tikka variety, but it really lacked flavour - honestly just tasted like a slightly spiced up can of Cream of Tomato. The other meal we ordered was tasty though, as were the starters, so possibly just a miss.
Amazing food
Food good and good service. Not a fan of compulsory service charge as usually tip the staff instead. Good atmosphere
Felt very fresh and there were some interesting flavours to explore, like the smokey aubergine. Everything was tasty but lacked a magical something to push it into amazing territory. The dahl was a little disappointing too - quite runny. The paratha was a standout
A wonderful place for Indian food.
Such delicious food couldnt pick a favourite dish as everything was amazing! Lots of vegetarian options and I loved that there wasnt much plastic packaging when getting a takeaway.
I had a very good meal in the best company
Superb place. Excellent south Indian food and service.
Ambiance was nice, place was very busy but food was very disappointing. The food lacked seasoning and flavour
Good but not enough paneer in the dish
Tara is an excellent (but hard to find) Indian restaurant a 30 second walk from Cambridge station. There is a large outside covered area and an inside area with a chic and modern interior - the ceiling is exposed and you can see into the kitchen. We ve been here 5 times now since we discovered it - it is the best curry house I ve ever been to. And I love a good curry! The service is great - e.g. they just picked up an inside table and put out it outside for us so we could be outside on a balmy evening. The food and booze is superb. Great flavours, succulent meat, tasty veggie dishes. The paratha is as good as Singapore (my wife is from there so we go a lot) and the prawn curry is firm favourite. The chicken biryani (recommended by our waiter) is prepped imaginatively, and the aubergine curry is superb. Get here before it gets too busy! Although they do takeaway it s better to come here and the excellent service, food and atmosphere. Update May 2023: it is just as good if not better!
Amazing Indian food place very near the to Station. Never fails to improve not matter how many times I go. Very popular and can be crowded to would recommend booking a table far in advance.
Our second visit. Food was as good as the first time. I had a really interesting twist on a chicken biryani. The service was friendly although at times it seemed as though we were being rather rushed. Still overall another nice evening. Vegetarian options: Really good choice
Amazing food. The best service ever. So friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Really bland, watery food. Not much flavour, I ve had much better Indian food at other places. Murgh Tikka Massala was like Heinz tomato soup with some cooked chicken in. Really disappointed.
There was no one dining when I entered the restaurant around 5p.m. on a Monday. I did not particularly like having to order and pay on my phone by pulling out my card and entering the info. The food was good!
The food tasted good but it wasnt fresh. They have an open kitchen, and we could see that they are just warming up all the food. Who knows how old the food actually is. Our food took a matter of seconds, which was great, but our stomachs felt the pain afterwards.
A bit chaotic, but super delicious Indian cuisine!
Went there after reading reviews and it didnt disappointed me. One of the best restaurant with great taste. The food was delicious and tender. Recommended Vegetarian options: Full available
Vegetarian options: Best Indian food I ve ever had!! Food
We waited an hour to receive our order. Poor service Food
I recently visited Tawa restaurant and had a great experience and definitely I would recommend it. The ambiance was lovely and the staff were friendly (here I would appreciate Mr. Jeffin) The Menu had a good variety of indian dishes to choose from. Thanks
Really good Indian food . Can be more spicy
A lovely evening out with family, 2 adult and a toddler. The food and staff were great. Highly recommend this place. Street parking after 5pm is free, only 6 to 8 minutes.
Best Indian Restaurant in Cambridge.
This was a bit of a mixed-bag night. First of all, there is no background music so you could hear the constant slamming of the front and kitchen doors. Our Lamb dish arrived cold which we sent back to be heated up.
We had chicken biriyani with paratha and Bombay slaw. The food is gorgeous!
Overall, this was a decent Indian meal. It was a bit overpriced especially for starters but the food was decent. A few comments: - the font on the menu was a bit too small which made it hard to read but appreciate the allergen breakdown on the other side of the menu - there was an indication of dietary requirements on the menu but the vegan V and vegetarian V were too similar so it was hard as a vegan to identify the vegan dishes - the food was clearly pre-cooked rather than fresh (indicated by server) - Persian pomegranate chole only had 3 pomegranate seeds and didn t taste any different from a normal Indian chole, and was spicy despite no indication it would be spicy on the menu - chaat was good, good portion and tasted nice
Fantastic service Good indian food Vegetarian options: Many of the dishes glutenfree
The ambiance is very average with an emphasis on a non lively or pleasant atmosphere. The food came out far too quickly, meaning it felt & tasted like a generic Uncle Bens dish, which had been sitting left over from the lunch menu. The food wasnt temperature hot, and was even cold in places. Very bland and not at all what Id expect from a restaurant that pertains to be a good Indian restaurant. The only 2 parts that felt freshly prepared were a mango lassy & a naan, (though the naan was a bit greasy). The pilau rice wasnt even pilau. It was basmati with a sprinkling of micro veg in it. To top this disastrous meal off, was an automatic addition of a 12.5% service charge!!! I cannot recommend this restaurant at all for anyone who values decent & authentic Indian dishes. Simply lower than average! Avoid at all costs!
Shockingly expensive for what you got and for the quality. 3 persons a main course with rice and a drink £75 with a 12.5% service charge automatically added, for service which was basic. The food was lukewarm and therefore cold as soon as it hit the cold plates. To call the vegetable pilau rice, pilau rice was a not worthy as it was basically boiled basmati with some cooked vegetables added. The main food was ok otherwise but nothing to write home about and certainly not worth the cost, extremely disappointing given the high ratings of other diners.
Awesome value and healthy hearty food for lunch. Will come back for lunch and probably dinner soon and often, even just for takeaway :) The convenient location is a plus, though there are many other higher end or family style Indian restaurants in town. The chaat is so much larger than the waitress s gesture suggested. Definitely not an extra as stated by the menu either. I was ready to go for a pricy snack but received big plate , there must be a can of chickpeas . Very good value. I am stuffed. This alone can be a meal, and it tastes wonderful. Creamy chickpeas and crispy kale and noodles. And the sweet sour tamarid chutney sauce tastes wonderful with a hint of spiciness. The side salad is also substantial. Instead of a few green leaves on the side, it comes as a bowl tightly packed with shredded veggies, cherry tomatoes, radishes, and pomegranate seeds! The citrusy dressing is very refreshing. Probably the best side salad or green salad I ve had. The lamb wrap has a good balance between meat and veggie. Mildly spiced. The wrap is soft and stretchy though I hope it can be toasted a little warmer. Will try the express thali and curry and biryani next time. Seems to be a quite popular lunch place for those working in the nearby offices. The stews on the stove look nice. - 2nd visit Invited a friend to try the dinner here. The portion is surprisingly smaller than lunch, and my favorite salad doesn t seem to be here. We had a lamb and a chicken dish. Following recommendation I ordered the more spicy chicken chenttinad only a warm hint for me but tasty. Tariwala gosht appears similar. It has a more pronounced cardamom flavor. Thepla is quite rare in restaurants, pliable and goes well with the food. The flavor isn t as strong as the ingredient suggests. Butter naan comes warm :) crispy outside and soft inside. Not too greasy. Kulfi has a small amount of pistachio and more rose petals. Not too sweet. Cardamom gives a complex flavor to it. I probably have never tried Kulfi in American Indian restaurants, so the recommended flavor is good mango one might taste like frozen mango lassi. Ambiance-wise, some background music could help. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable.
Nice restaurant. Good tasty and service was good.
The food is excellent, but it is not special. It is located within a residential complex.
Stopped in here after our train was terminated in Cambridge - it made it worth the hassle of the delay. The food was very different from the norm and was delicious : Kkurkuri bhindi- beautifully tasty okra nibbles Spicy coconut petis with tamarind sauce was sublime Mysore lamb - fantastic tasty masala sauce and tender lamb Cochin prawn curry - spicy creamy and beautifully tender prawns Basmati rice perfect All very fresh And the staff exceedingly helpful and friendly... worth a train ride here just for this
Food was so good. Chicken 50/60 the kids loved. We ordered daal and chole as well as masala chips, chicken biryani with some parathas. Really decently priced meal for five of us and really nice and filling. Would highly recommend. Food : 4/5
I had the lamb chops as starter and the tikka masala as mains. I think the food was amazing even if the restaurant was completely packed up. Ill definitely be happy to be back.
Lovely restaurant and great food. Reasonable prices too. Will defo be going back.
This was my 3rd Visit to Tawa Kitchen and I have to say that every time I walk in through those doors I m impressed with their impeccable service & the heartwarming staff which always goes the mile to accommodate all your needs & make your visit a special one. My friend had to catch a train & we requested them for a table very last moment. They were kind enough to get us one & also made sure we were served in time so that we could rush & get that train. The food is always top class. Feels as if I am eating right in India ! Thanks for keeping up the legacy and serving such delicious food with a beautiful dedicated team !
I will give this resturant a 4 star, just because all of our curries are non spicy which is good for uk folks but as a indian i love spicy food, but overall food was very good , staff is very nice
Delicious experience. The service is excellent, and the staff actually listens and incorporates your taste preferences perfectly. We ordered chickpeas, and the taste is comparable to actual Indian homemade food. It is also close to the station and hence easy to go to. A must go to.
Today, I visited Cambridge for the first time and after checking reviews about this restaurant, I chose to eat there. The staff was accommodating and did not throw any fit. However, I believe the food was not fresh. Food
I love Indian food and this was my first visit to Cambridge. Tawa kitchen was an highlight of my afternoon. Mida was so friendly and listened to our specifications lovely atmosphere and the food was top notch
Interesting take on Indian food. Very tasty and a great place to go as part of a group.
Extremely tasty and good!
So the food was great but u definitely should get a reservation. Can definitely can recommend to go there! Best Indien food I got in Cambridge Vegetarian options: There are a lot of veggie options Wheelchair accessibility: Possible
Waited 20 minutes after being seated and no one had even come for a drinks order. The place wasnt full. We just walked out and no one said anything.
Great Indian restaurant in Cambridge near the station
best indian restaurant in cambridge
Service started off good with an attentive waitress. But when it got busier we got forgot about despite the waitresses looking over as they passed by. The starters were lovely so we were looking forward to the main. As south asians we had a particular expectation of how the food would look and taste. However, after the starters it all went downhill. The curry- lamb mysore looked and tasted burnt. Where were the onions and peppers and the gravy? It was dried up and chewy. As an asian I have never seen a curry like that apart from my dads who cant cook anyway. The naan was the worst. It went cold as soon as it hit our table and it didnt have that yeasty taste that fresh naan has. Even packet naan from the shops had a better taste. Salad was bulked out with lots of diced carrot and mango lassi was a measly portion. The lamb chops were just tasteless and fatty. Then they had the audacity to slap on 12.5% service charge after having waited and waited for someone to bring us the desserts menu and the bill. Service charge for what exactly? Never ending waiting? Needless to say we got up to pay and asked for the service charge to be taken off. Avoid at all costs u less you have no concept of authentic asian food.
Will be back. I was pleasantly surprised, so highly recommend (chef kiss).
Love their food!
Loved the taste - not too spicy and delicately balanced flavours. Staff were friendly. Busy place but the wait wasnt long. Great location, just 1 minute from Cambridge train station.
the worst indian food spot :/ im sorry but the portions??? literally tiny portions and the food doesnt even taste great? just burnt food lol, wouldnt recommend this place at all does not even taste like indian food
Vegetarian options: I took a Lunch express Thaali and guys it says ROTI but actually its a Half Roti..First time in my life I have seen a Thali with HALF Roti... Food
After trying to get a reservation for ages we finally managed & Tawa kitchen did not disappoint. The staff were lovely & very attentive & the meal was fantastic. We had the okra nibbles with onion & aubergine bhaji and tandoori lamb chops to start, followed by the pomegranate chickpea chole, chicken tikka masala and the chicken chettinad. Couldn t fault a thing, the meal was delicious & we will definitely be back!
Less quantity, taste not worth the huge money we pay. Very bad experience.
authentic Indian food located conveniently close to the station. The choice and quality of food is great Food
Delicious food ! Quite close to authentic cuisine, and understanding customized to a bit to suit local tastes Food
Amazing food and atmosphere!
When we are inside the restaurant they didn t provide Water to us it was very bad experience With Tawa kitchen
The food portions are small and they are not very generous with the amount of meat in the curries. The curries taste fine but are nothing to write home about. The restaurant is fashionable and has quite a nice ambience if you are not sat by the door or cash register.
For the price, the food - the naan and curries taste like they are from the meals from a supermarket. The parathas tasted like they are from frozen. Not fresh at all. The raita tastes like hummous. Kale chaat also tastes like canned chickpeas, no flavour at all. The portion sizes are a joke! The atmosphere is nice, thats about it. I would not recommend. Vegetarian options: Alright.
We ordered the food (multiple vegetarian main courses) only to find that they were warmed up from Frozen and not freshly made including Naans (seemed like supermarket ones). Would not recommend if you are looking for good / authentic Indian food , food well below expectations and definately not worth the price.
After looking at reviews and website , you get an impression of excellent authentic Indian food, however this was NOT the case when we visited to celebrate birthday. All of the food tasted like warmed up from frozen and or supermarket. To taste this quality of food , you wouldnt want to spend money in this restaurant. They need to do much better job for the price they charge and what they say on website.
Close to authentic Indian cuisine and great atmosphere
The food was okay. Nice to see an Indian restaurant with a live kitchen. Beware that a service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to the bill. Food : 4/5
Really great evening. We both enjoyed our food. Dietary restrictions: Good for coeliacs Food : 5/5 |
The food tastes nowhere close to authentic Indian. The parantha taste as if they were from the frozen pack from super market. Prawn curry was too sweet and had a gravy more like daal. Lamb chops underneath the masala were tasteless. Very noisy place if you are planning to dine in. Overall a bad experience.
Not worth..
Poor customer service
bad customer service
Nice food but quite pricey.
Had a lovely dining experience at Tawa Kitchen. The Chettinad chicken paired with paratha was warm and scrumptious. Their portions are generous without being overwhelming, ensuring you enjoy your meal without feeling uncomfortably full. Still, I can easily split one portion into two or three potions for myself. Its evident they prioritize quality over sheer quantity. The Gajar Ka Halwa dessert was an absolute delight Id return just for that! A shoutout to our server, Samson, who was kind and attentive throughout. Highly recommend this place for a delectable meal and excellent service.
Cant fault anything about this restaurant will definitely return
Visited on the recommendation of a colleague. The store is located on the first floor of a building in the Cambridge Station area that is being redeveloped. There are many Indian restaurants in the UK, but this one has the impression of being an Indian fusion restaurant. It has a stylish appearance and was quite busy when I visited on a Sunday night. The highlight dish is biryani. I was surprised to find that the biryani served looked like a pot pie, which was different from the biryani I had eaten in Japan. When you dig into the pie crust, there is plenty of biryani inside. It was a dish that was enjoyable for both the eyes and the tongue.
Delicious food, brilliant service and great atmosphere. Slightly on the noisy side but I think it adds to it.
Food was stunning, truly. The service first class. Highly recommend
Discovered a gem of an urban-style Indian restaurant in Cambridge. Arrived at opening time (5 PM) to a full house, but luckily snagged a table available for 1.5 hours. The biryani here is a game-changer, especially with its unique bread-wrapped rice presentation. Perfectly spiced, not too salty or oily, its a delight for anyone into healthy yet flavorful food. A must-try for Indian cuisine lovers!
Excellent cuisine!! Noisy
Probably my favourite restaurant in cambridge, and definitely the best indian Vegetarian options: Also vegan options Recommended dishes Chicken Biryani Recommendation for vegetarians
Lovely and attentive staff. Great food altho the salmon starter was overcooked for my wifes taste. The scotch egg could be spicier and the mains were gorgeous! The pastry topped biriani was a bit of a surprise and enjoyed. (My garlic Coriander nan seemed undercooked). V nice purple carrot halva! Full on a Thursday evening and pretty noisy. A good evening for 7 bods well worth repeating! Highly recommended!
We ate at Tawa Indian Restaurant in Cambridge, and I must say it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Located conveniently near the rail station in a modern building away from the road. The service at Tawa is great, with attentive staff providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our party of four felt well taken care of throughout the evening. The staffs willingness to offer recommendations was useful for one of our party who wanted flavour but not too much spice. Tawa boasts an good selection of Indian dishes that go beyond the ordinary. They have about 50/50 vegetarian and meat choices with traditional flavours and innovative twists, catering to a variety of tastes. From the appetisers to the main courses, each dish was nicely presented. Our bill came to a reasonable £120 for four people, including starters, mains, drinks, and service. Considering the quality of the food, the pleasant ambiance, and the excellent service, I found it to be a fair value and a memorable meal. If there is one comment it is that the table sizes are a bit cramped and so we had to juggle the space a bit. Also the restaurant has a modern, industrial feel which is is fine, but is more suited to a quick meal that a place to relax for the whole evening. Overall, Tawa Indian Restaurant in Cambridge is a gem for those seeking delicious Indian cuisine. Its proximity to the rail station, combined with top-notch service and an exciting menu, makes it a good choice for a meal with friends or family.
We went to Tawa Kitchen for my birthday dinner. We wanted to enjoy some nice Indian food and based on reviews and ratings we decided to try at this place. We made the right choice the food was delicious. The palce was very busy as expected for a 4.9 rating resturant on a Friday evening. The service of the stuff was really appreciable. Although it was very busy everyone was considerate enough to attend the tables and very quick to serve. We were served by Swati. She is friendly and very humble. She also suggested us the signature dish of Tawa Kitchen. The chicken biriyani was awesome. Overall we had a wonderful experience at Tawa Kitchen and will definitely visit again when we visit Cambridge the next time. I wish Swati and everyone at Tawa Kitchen a great success.
Almost hidden around the back of a large building on Station Road, Tawa have the advantage of being away from busy traffic, yet close to the main Cambridge station. I booked a table for two there on the recommendation of a friend - who really knows his food! - and thoroughly agree with him: this place is producing excellent cuisine. Given the mild evening, we initially sat outside for drinks, nibbles and starters, before heading inside for the main course. There are plenty of dishes on the menu you will recognise, some with a twist, and quite a few that are different to the norm but sound delicious! Its worth noting that vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters are well catered for. Possibly my favourite from tonight is their Indian variation of a Scotch Egg: superb! Pricing is good and service attentive but not overbearing. Definitely recommended.
