106 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 2BD, United Kingdom
Compact, white-tablecloth restaurant serving traditional Indian cuisine and tandoori specialities.
A real Jewel in the Cambridge crown. A short walk from the town centre is this welcoming and hospitable little restaurant. Booking is reccomended! Very busy charming place and thankfully a table was found for us with no effort at all. The food was really good and the prices were reasonable and competitive. A really delightful place that did not fail to deliver in taste and quality. Fully reccomend as a foodie and local guide. Great job. Thankyou for your service
Amazing Food and Great Hospitality! We had a wonderful experience at Curry Queen. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the lamb shank with lentils—it was delicious! Everything came on time, which we really appreciated. A special mention to DJ, who was an excellent host—friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well looked after throughout our visit. The combination of great food and top-notch service made for a fantastic evening. Highly recommend this place!
fantastic! Delicious food, excellent service, and great value. Loved it. DJ made the experience even better with his warm hospitality. Celebrated my friends birthday. Can’t wait to return
I recently dined at Curry Queen, and it was an incredible experience! The food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, authentic, and perfectly spiced. But the real star of the evening was DJ, our amazing host. His warmth, enthusiasm, and expert menu recommendations made the night truly special. DJ went above and beyond, ensuring every detail was perfect and sharing great insights about the dishes. From the ambiance to the service and, of course, the food, everything was exceptional. Can’t wait to return!
Absolutely love Curry Queen, was a regular takeaway customer 2/3 times a month until we moved out of Cambridge. Went back today for the first time in nearly 5 months and was just as good as i remember it to be. The food is great, service and staff fantastic and a very good price. Can’t wait to come back soon for another Chicken Ceylon!
Amazing service and delicious food seasoned so well. Not your typical old curry house, best curry on mill road and I love that they have unique dishes plus classics with a twist and the usual you might expect. Incredibly clean and welcoming staff. Have dined in and ordered take away and I'm always impressed.
A great little Indian restaurant in. Cottenham. Easy to park. Restaurant is a good size, nice and clean. Staff are friendly and food is great.
This our second time to come to this place and it was lovely experience. We had nice starter -potatoes/spinach, then for mains we ordered chicken madras curry and I had mixed grill, which was amazing. For the sides we had pilau rice and 2 naan breads, and we had mango chutney, mint sauce, onion and veggie mix and something I was not sure what it was (a bit salty sauce). The staff was very friendly and sufficient. They were quick to tidy empty plates and we had overall nice experience. The prices are reasonable, and you have a choice to pay service charge or no. There are toilets in back area. It was not too busy and we got table without booking in advance.
As always DJ and his team consistently provide great food, great service and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely the best curry in Cambridge and it s great value for money!
Even though weather is horendous still delivered delicious food . Eat. In or get delivery almost once a week it never disappoints
food was ok and the service from the manager was really disappointing. He was rude and dismissive to his staff which made the whole visit worse. A Friday night at 8pm and 3 tables....what does that say about the place. Be aware of the manager hand writing on the bill....watch for the pickles and secret sauce that is charged. A pickle tray at 5.90 and poppadoms 1.40 each. If you dont want a certain pickle speak up otherwise your charged. Comes across nice until payment time,This is just my honest feedback based on what I encountered. I wont be coming back and I will certainly be telling others.
A proper old skool curry house. And a great one
Last of the traditional curry houses on Mill Rd. I have been eating here for nearly 40 years. Always a warm welcome. Vegetarian options: A range of veg main dishes but I prefer to go for a mix of flavours by ordering a big selection of the side dishes
Had the best night! Delicious curry. The best person there is DJ - he made the whole experience
Attended with a large group. One of the party had arranged a food deal where we each got a mixed starter, the poppadom/chutney tray, ordered our own curry with rice and naan to share on the table. Food was excellent, got a chicken shashlik tikka masala and it was great. We were overcharged. We were told food would be £31 each, some of the group hadnt drank anything beyond tap water and had the arbritary 10% service slapped on as they were paying, punishment for not ordering any drinks I guess. Id ordered an alcohol free beer seeing that becks was £3.50 on the menu, and unbeknowest to me been given two so it was enough to fill a pint, driving my share of the bill to £40. Honestly, up until we were paying Id had a great time and it totally ruined my evening. I feel like they saw a big group and thought We can fleece these guys. Having a look at the menu, everything I ate would have come to about £25 and honestly Id have been unlikely to have a whole rice/naan to myself. If what wed been charged reflected _the menu_ Id happily recommend Curry Queen. But I cannot endorse a business that thinks the way to survive is to rip off customers. Happy customers return and spend more money. I wont return and Ill tell anyone asking where to get a good curry: avoid Curry Queen at all costs.
Excellent food and good staff
Most exquisite restaurant and the food was delicious. Truly one of the best places to dine at and I will recommend to others. I ll
Great Food, great service, great vibe. Dietary restrictions: Halal
I like food a lot and the management bcoz they listen what we want and always they make according to us and how we want like authentic indian food. And now i am regular since now
Loved the food and a good variety of choices and the service and atmosphere is also good.
Delicious food great service.
One of the best restaurants in Cambridge with authentic food. The service was fantastic. The food was amazing. Food : 5/5
Good Food, Warm Hospitality, Awesome Ambience
Excellent food and service. Will definitely be back.
Underrated.
Best curry in Cambridge
Small place with nice food and a large menu, they have a bar with plenty of options of beer and spirits. Food was delicious and waitstaff was friendly and attentive, good place for a curry. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessable, the door in is narrow with a step and there are no wheelchair accessable toilets.
Food was good But the behave from the manager was not polite. We shocked when we saw the bill, he added hidden service charge!!
Absolutely fab! Really nice chicken tikka masala. DJ was fab host.
Food was amazing, we ordered chicken tikka biryani and tandoori mix grill and some naans. It was good. All the staff were very good to us. Would recommend everyone to visit curry queen if you want to try indian cuisine ...
We went to visit to Cambridge to visit Cambridge Mosque and we searched for best indian cuisine and google suggested us this restaurant. It was the best, we ordered mango lassi which was so fresh ..and for our main course we ordered some chicken chilli fry, lamb ajuba, peshawri naan and pilao rice and it was amazing...five stars from me
Hi excellent food lovely staff we are enjoying our main meal thanks you curry queen chicken tawa yumm ?
Worst food and staff. When given rating that food is worst they are suggesting to stick to fast food and not Indian food. The biggest joke is I m an Indian and they are teaching about our cuisine. I think the restaurant is not even Indian (probably Bangladeshi). Anyway the reply proves your behaviour.
Food was not that great and the place was not hygienic and staff were a bit rude I am an Indian too and have been to several 7 star restaurants for three course meals of different cuisines, this is the first ever restaurant which served the worse garlic prawns and biryani which felt like prawns in dal, I think you should know how to prepare Indian dishes authentically. I come from city of biryani so do not have the audacity to tell me how Indian food tastes like.
NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED I recently had an awful experience at *The Curry Queen* and felt compelled to share it. To say the food was bad would be an understatement. The dishes were bland, overly greasy, and lacked any authentic flavor. It was clear that no care or effort went into preparing the food, and it left us completely unsatisfied. As if that wasn t bad enough, the cleanliness of the restaurant was shockingly poor. The tables were sticky, and the floors didn t seem like they had been cleaned properly in a long time. The cutlery provided was even worse cheap, bent, and unpolished, which certainly did not fit their supposed fine dining claim. What really ruined the experience, though, was the managers attitude. He was incredibly rude and dismissive when we raised concerns about the food and service. Instead of addressing our feedback, he acted as if we were the problem, which was not only unprofessional but downright disrespectful. Overall, the service was just as abysmal as the food. It was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I ve ever had, and I wouldn t recommend *The Curry Queen* to anyone. Reply for the comment I get that others might have had good experiences, but this was just my honest take. The food wasn t great, but the real issue was how rude the manager was. I m just sharing what I experienced, and I m sure some other people who ve been there can understand where I m coming from. This isn t meant to bash the place, just pointing out what could be better.
Hi curry queen is the best restaurant Cambridge.lovely food and good service
I can recommend the chicken tikka biryani - great atmosphere
Lovely place and balti is very smooth not over powering great evening. Nice little eatery.
It was soo good eating in Curry Queen and the food is amazing. Will come back again
Im just sharing my experience- the food wasn t good, and the service from the manager was really disappointing. He was rude and dismissive, which made the whole visit worse. The food wasn t that good aswell not up to the level. Btw that wasn t proper indian cuisine,This is just my honest feedback based on what I encountered
Friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, good, service delicious food.
Delicious food and great service. Really enjoyed the saag aloo and the lamb balti curry. Will be back!
They took a very long time to deliver the food, and then they served a food in chipped plates.
Good
I have dined in many Indian restaurants around the world . Curry Queen Mill Rd. rates as one of the best. Pleasant atmosphere A/C on a hot & humid day my King Prawn Tandoori was excellent as were the pappadom starters. Hoping to be a regular at this lovely restaurant. Thank you Curry Queen!
The food was quite okay and we would have liked to have come more often - until we were presented with the bill: the greetings from the kitchen, which was placed on the table before the main course without being ordered and asked for, was charged to us and was even more expensive than that the main courses. In my eyes this is a scam as we were not informed of the additional cost or even asked if we wanted this entrée.
They are always very accommodating, no matter our group size. They also take care to make sure I don t have any issues with my tomato intolerance, and recently a dairy restriction. Very friendly and the food is amazing. Vegetarian options: I would often get the Sag Paneer as a main (without tomato) and it is incredible. Dietary restrictions: They always help me order things when I have dietary restrictions such as a recent dairy restriction.
Ronny is a class manager! Food always great and service amazing!
Absolutely polite and courteous service. The food was delicious. I would eat there again Vegetarian options: I chose the vegetarian Kurma there. Delicious.
We live on the other side of town but order from here for takeaway because the curry is so fantastic. The member of staff who took our order and gave us our food was really friendly and helpful. The cost was really reasonable and the curry delicious. I just read the negative review above and really can t believe that they are talking about the same place. I have eaten in the restaurant many times in the past. It has always been a really positive experience. Staff and food are fantastic.
We always use Curry Queen for our Indian takeaway. It s always been delicious. My husband s go to dish is lamb dansak and it s cooked perfectly every time. I like to try different dishes and so far they have all been really nice. My go to naan is cheese and it s generous with the cheese which is fab. The customer service is always on point and the man that delivers it has always been friendly and happy. Delivered nice and hot, within good time, we don t want to go anywhere else. If you haven t tried them before you really should. P.S just had the king prawn tandoori main, highly recommend it, soo tasty!
Very tasty food, especially the Bombay Potatoes. Delivered on time, and the delivery guy called to let me know when he was close, just as I had requested. I think one item was different from what I ordered: I ordered the chicken tikka starter but I think I got the chicken tikka masala, which isnt far off and is actually the more expensive menu item. Wouldve been a 5 if not for the different item, but it was still very good
Curry a bit too hot by default....
I have ordered collection a couple of times and Im always impressed with the foods taste and quality. Its warm, spicy, and full of flavor. The workers are always helpful and polite making the ordering process seamless. I highly recommend the Hari Marchi Lamb which is my regular order. I cant get enough of it! I highly recommend coning here for affordable curry thats amazing quality!
Good vibes. Nice food!
We dined at Curry Queen last night and we had a lovely meal. The food was delicious and the ambience and staff were very lovely. I recommend coming here!
Comfortably the best Curry in Cambridge. Small shop on Mill Road with friends staff and excellent food. Great value too
My go to Curry in Cambridge. Food quality and portions are excellent and the staff are equally good. The chefs specials are especially good.
Lovely setting and very attentive members of staff. Delicious food and fun music to enjoy.
Been here plenty of time, always good quality of food served and friendly service. A good night out, nothing over the top and big enough for small groups.
Food was absolutely delicious! Their popadoms came with special red dip and they were definitely the star of the dips. Staff were attentive and friendly. Their pashwari naan and chicken biryani was tasty as well! Will definitely be back.
One of the best Indian restaurants I ve ever been to, it easy to see why they were awarded best Indian restaurant in Cambridgeshire!
My experience was fine, the onion bhajis were very good. However I heard about one table having a bad experience he found a small childs shoe in his food and the staff were rude, shouting.
We have been eating at Curry Queen for decades. In the last year or so, their billing practice has changed, so that it is highly misleading. After the meal, you will receive a handwritten but well-nigh illegible bill. As the items are not readable, you will find it difficult to check, but what is most misleading is that a service charge is listed in the middle of the list of items. We always give a generous tip so when we realised we were basically giving two lots of service charge, we raised it with staff. The staff pointed out that the 10% service charge is clearly stated on the menu. What they didn t explain is why the service charge was placed amongst the list of items and not at the end of the bill. I find this sneaky and underhand. The CQ bills end with what are obviously food items, so it is natural to assume that there is no service charge. When they write the bill, they must have leave a gap in the list of items and then fill that gap with the (illegible) service charge when the total is known. I have no idea how often we were swindled that way into giving a second tip.
Very scammy place, overcharge you on the bill which is illegible & handwritten. They include a service charge in the MIDDLE of the bill without informing you AND ask if you want to tip at the end! Waiter refused to give us a printed bill so we could read what was on there and they tried to charge us for the rice included with the meals. Do not go, they will charge you for things you did not order and hope they can get away with it. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
Terrible place who will overcharge you for things you dont order and refuse to give you a proper printed bill so you can see the charges. They include a service charge and then also ask for tipping which is so bad! So many better curry places around Cambridge to give your business too avoid this one!
Great food, great taste, lovely location.
This establishment is not recommended as they tend to overcharge customers for unordered items and are unwilling to provide a detailed printed bill upon request. Additionally, they include a service charge and still request tips, which is disappointing. There are far superior curry places in Cambridge worth supporting; I would suggest avoiding this particular one.
My visit to Curry Queen was an absolute nightmare. Not only did they try to pull a sneaky scam by demanding a service charge Id already paid, but they also jacked up the prices of the food, conveniently different from what was listed. To top it off, the receipt they handed me was a mess, illegible and filled with errors that conveniently favored them. But the real kicker? The staff were beyond rude, acting like they were doing me a favor by letting me dine there. It felt like they were all in on the scam, making the whole experience even more infuriating. Save yourself the headache, steer clear of Curry Queen unless youre in the mood for a masterclass in disappointment and frustration.
Let me tell you about the absolute disaster that unfolded during my visit to this curry place. Not only did they inflate prices for items I never ordered and tack on hidden fees, but they also refused to provide a detailed bill, leaving me clueless about where my money went. On top of that, the service was abysmal the staff were rude and pushy, making me feel like an inconvenience rather than a customer. But wait, it gets worse. As I was eating, I discovered a flip flop in my curry! Yes, you heard that right a flip flop in my food. When I brought it to the servers attention, instead of apologizing, they accused me of planting it there for a free meal. To add insult to injury, they actually had the audacity to charge me extra for the flip flop, claiming it was a special ingredient. This entire experience was beyond belief. Between the deceptive billing practices, terrible service, and bizarre culinary surprises, this place is a complete disaster. Save yourself the headache and avoid it like the plague. There are plenty of reputable curry spots in Cambridge that deserve your business. This one is a culinary nightmare waiting to happen dont say I didnt warn you!
This is a regular haunt for me and my friends. Its becoming increasingly difficult to find a traditional Indian restaurant in Cambridge. There is always a friendly welcome, excellent service and consistently good food at reasonable prices.
Nice food and fantastic service. For most would be 5 star but for me it s a 4 as it was the mildest vindaloo I ve ever had! If I m back in Cambridge will visit again and ask for it extra hot!
It s my first time here. It was recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. Good food and great service . Food
Veggie dish had chicken, extra protein wasnt appreciated.
I am totally disappointed with the kind of service We had, The manager literally scammed us, he said. We can t have what is mentioned in the menu. He asked us to order more so that we can have dine in. The menu shows 4.45 pounds for curry. But he charged 8.85 . He didn t mention the price. We had to pay the double price. I would not suggest it to anyone who wants to try .
Great curry!
Went down to Cambridge for the day. Evening time decided on Indian. Very good service, food and atmosphere. Food was tasty hot and fresh. Definitely recommend. Will be popping in again next time Food
The food is delicious. Massive menu to choose from. The service is very friendly too. Recommend to book a table as very popular
The food was lovely but me and my husband were over charged by £15 which is ridiculous. Service charge or any extra charges should be explained on the receipt. We went away and found that we were overcharged which is very disappointing.
Went with a group of 10 and to be honest not hugely impressed. The service felt a bit like a military drill as pressure was consistently applied to order as soon as possible from the moment we entered. Personally, I would say a big group should at least be allowed 5-10 mins to look at the menu. When 2 latecomers showed up to our table, they were asked to order before they had even taken their jackets off! This was made stranger by the fact it took ages to get the bill. Dont rush us to the last 100 metres then walk the rest of the way!! The food was fine, nothing special, but serviceable (although the poppadoms tasted a bit old), just not the most comfortable dining experience Ive had.
Hair in food, food cold, came really quickly and delivery driver wonderful but the food was not it. Hardly eat any and feeling rubbish next day. Left a review on just eat but was removed as it wasnt a good review. Will NOT be ordering from there again Vegetarian options: Vegetable korma
Visited here about a week ago. Really nice food. I had the curry queen special, peshwari rice and peshwari naan. All were really good!!! Sweet and sour sauce they served with the poppadoms had abit of a kick and was tasty. Staff were very friendly and even gave me a pot of sauce to take away as it was so nice. Good prices too. Well worth giving this place a try!!!!! I will be going back.
Avoid at all cost. If I could, I would give them zero stars, terrible service. Took two hours to deliver my order. They left the food outside in the cold and didn t even call me or ring the bell, and when I called them to ask where my food is, they had a terrible attitude. Wouldn t recommend.
Great service, my veg jalfrezi was not spicy. Lovely special sauce with poppadoms.
Just had a lovely meal at this Indian restaurant nice clean and quick a very pleasant staff well worth a visit
Just ordered from here through just eat about an hour ago an not even 10 minutes in I ve been sick from eating the chicken korma
The worst restaurant ever. They rush you to eat fast and charge you for the starter food that they leave on the table without warning
Unfortunately, this place falls short in several areas. The food is subpar and the staff is not friendly, making for a disappointing dining experience. If you re looking for good service and quality cuisine, it may be best to look elsewhere. :(
Went and ate at the restaurant with a few friends during Ramadan and can say it was a great experience overall! Food was cooked perfectly and dining atmosphere was enjoyable. The owner was very friendly and had a strong menu.
We had a lovely meal at the Curry Queen. I chose a mushroom biryani, my husband had chicken shashlick, and our friends had a vegetable bhuna each. We also shared naans and vegetable side dishes: Brinjal Bhaji (aubergine) and Brinjal Bhaji (okra). The staff were very attentive too.
£7.40 for four poppadoms and some pickle is a bit much. Just order a £4.50 starter to share instead. Didn t think there was enough chicken in the curries, but it was cooked well, and the curry sauces themselves were good. (Was good to know all meat served is halal.) The rice portion was tiny. The service was a rushed as well, throwing serviettes over laps, though the staff were perfectly polite. Overall the experience doesn t really hold up to what it used to be, assumed the management changed some time ago.
We are from West Yorkshire (Bradford and close towns) where there is a very large Asian population. The curry houses there are excellent. The Curry Queen on Mill Rd is just as good! Well be ordering from there again. You could taste all the ingredients in the kurma - not just the coconut, and the byriani was excellent. Thank you!
A busy place means great food. The waitstaff is committed to making you feel at your best
From service to food to atmosphere, this place is a 10/10. I would would highly recommend dining in here. Worth every penny spent
Compact. Good food. Bad service - they tend to rush you.
Sorry for posting used plate but I have no option that tandoori salmon was deep fried. Moreover, food was futile and money was use less. Need more training and learning regards food and service
Butter chicken tasted like coconut dessert (so crazy sweet with only coconut flavor - it was disgusting), second curry we had was delicious and appetizers were ok, so 50/50 food. But the server was so pushy for us to order more extras that in the end you end up paying a lot for this kind of place. He give us a really weird vibe so I asked him if there is service charge - he said no. After pay we found that it was sneak in the bill as a second item - Definitely a SCAM!! + before some lady was ordering a food and he yelled numbers of her 3 cards really loud several times, anyone could write it down or I wouldn t be surprised if they charged her more times
Balti dish was really good. Food tasted freshly-cooked. Food
The food was rubbish to the point I couldnt eat..and the stupid little staff patrolling the floor like a army officer an d made us feel very uncomfortable keep staring...please avoid
Late evening delivery of veggie and rice dishes all cooked to order hot on arrival and flavoursome. The Dansak main was a bit sweet for my taste, could do with a bit less sugar and a bit more heat. I asked for a Bombay potato vindaloo hot which was cooked to perfection, as was the saag paneer. I will order again and hope the CQ can maintain this standard and improve dishes after customer feedback.
Best Indian food, always quick delivery and the best quality food. The owner is also very friendly. My favourite take away!
We have been coming here for years. The service is always good and DJ is a great host. The food is excellent.
Amazing food, good sized portions with extremely attentive service. I highly recommend Curry Queen and will be returning.
Only the chef appears to know what he is doing. The service was terrible, the plates were chipped and dirty, and the atmosphere was military-like and unpleasant!
Delightful experience with my cricket team
Yum yum Wheelchair accessibility: Looks like you could fit a wheelchair through the door Food : 5/5 |
Spot on!
Good place for a team social. Friendly service, nice atmosphere and the food comes quickly
Food isn t good. Service was shocking. On of the waiters burped in my boyfriends face. My friends food was forgotten about and it took 20 mins to get the servers attention to fix it. Wouldn t recommend
Lovely Saturday night at Curry Queen. Warm welcome and attentive service throughout the meal. The food was honestly the best curry I have had in a really long time. I had the Lamb Ceylon with mushroom rice and my husband had a shatkora lamb with pilau. 100% recommend. Good prices too - we will be back!
Took my sister here for a curry and she said it was one of the best she has ever had.
An original classic curry house.
My favourite curry restaurant in Cambridge. Always great food and Service, super fast delivery and best of all reasonably priced!
A nice and very spicy tasting rogan josh! We were quite squeezed into our table. Service was not too bad, most drinks were sorted quite quickly. Meals came out and were shouted out, but noise of the room made it had to know what was said and who it was for. Price is medium to high. Food
Good atmosphere and quick service. My mixed grill was perfect and my friend had a great chicken dish. The aubergine curry was also super.
We had an excellent meal. The Curry Queen has an extensive menu of what I would call a typical curry house style. The staff were very attentive and we will definitely return!
What a wonderful little spot. Traditional curry house but freshly made dishes and exceptional flavours. Good value, attentive staff. A delicious meal. Highly recommend. Kid-friendliness: It s not big inside but they kindly accommodated our buggy and they had a high chair for us to use.
Papadam and chutney were amazing, one of the chutney was too salty. Curries tasted good but chicken portion was a bit little, kurma and tikka masala were a bit too sweet. Naan were quite good as well.
I ordered chicken biryani it was wonderful I never had I delicious biryani like this, the driver was nice and friendly as well as a respectful man thank you so much.
Excellent service, food was delicious and very tasty,. We will certainly be going there again. Food
Very bad experience....I wont recommend this restaurant... The quantity of food is very less when compared to other restaurants.... Price is very high and the behaviour of staff was very bad they overcharged as well..
Curry Queen is the worst resturant I ever went to after coming to Cambridge. We went there on a Friday evening around 7, and it was a horrible experience. The moment you get your table, you should think like you are in an exam hall with a limited time to answer. Without even going through the menu, you have to oder something so that they can kick you out as soon as you finish your meal. You will be eating your dish under a huge pressure to finish it quickly and clear out as early as possible. To ensure that, their staffs will be patrolling you. And at the end you will recieve a bill (I got a handwritten one, finding it difficult to even read the items which I ordered) which will be over priced. As the items are not readable, you will find it difficult to calculate the total amount. Only thing you can do is clear out their place with a determination to never visit this place again. Taste of the food is below average. You can find even better taste at lower price in the nearby places. If you still wish to try this place just to experience the worst service, please take care to calculate the bill amount as you order each items. This will help you to save money as they overcharge at the end.
Its a no brainer . Just beautiful
Another fantastic meal at the Curry Queen last night - definitely my go to Cambridge curry house these days. Chicken pathia was and they do the best bhindi bhaji. Service from Vijay was helpful, friendly and attentive. Will be back!
If youre Pakistani / Indian / Bangladeshi, this place will disappoint you terribly. There was not a desi in sight when we went there and now we know why Lets go through the good things first. The taste was okay. And they took 8 of us upstairs in a nice dining area which had a very nice vibe. Thats about it. Everything else was wrong. Firstly, the head manager who received us had a weird attitude. Some of the other reviews capture that already so lets move on. We ordered a bunch of different curries and 2 of us were unfortunate enough to order butter chicken. It was sweet. Not like it had a tinge of sweetness to it. It was actually sweet. So painfully sweet. It wasnt a curry that had sugar, it was a dessert that had curry powder. Basically inedible. The rest of the curries tasted fine but it was the same chicken in each curry. My best guess is that they have a bunch of chicken marinated and cooked already and depending on what the order is, they just cut it up, mix it in with the sauce and hallelujah. And then the lamb. Im assuming the lamb was precooked in a similar way and was tough as rubber. Couldnt be broken even after digging nails into it. When we called the head waiter and complained, he argued back about how he had 35 years of experience and it was supposed to be like this. He then said if he should take it back and have it cooked some more??? Like that would make rubbery lamb tender. He took it back and replaced it with a random chicken curry. That was edible atleast. Also Raita. The raita we got was just a cup of yogurt with black seeds sprinkled on top. Nice. TLDR: This place isnt for everyone. English people seem to enjoy whatever this place offers but I would highly encourage you to consider something else since the food and the overall experience leaves a lot to be desired.
Great food, but it was so loud in there, including the waiter. We had to wait ages for the food but it was tasty when it arrived. Vegetarian options: Not many veggie options on the menu.
Friendly service from the start to opening the door arrival for complimentary drinks and hot wipes at the end of the meal. Delightful and authentic Indian cuisine. The prices reflect the food made with complete passion. Cannot recommend enough to anyone!
Utterly superb curry, and brilliant value. The best bhuna Ive eaten in a long while.
Superb service, always friendly and welcoming and the food is sublime. Would highly recommend going here
Amazing food, great service, beautiful design
Cozy little venue with great value, they are bit keen on the up sell but even so the price is fantastic for the city. Has a great throwback feel which is comfortable and nostalgic. Food
Had one of the best chicken tikka masala of my life last night. The keema naan with mint sauce too was 10/10 Had to write this review. Thank you!
Incredible food, best Indian food in Cambridge (even better than Navadhanya in terms of pure taste in my opinion, at least in terms of the rice). The chilli paneer and egg rice are absolutely delicious, and the poppadoms together with the chutney are up there with the best Ive ever tasted. The garlic naan was very good, and the potato curry was okay. Overall, a massive recommend from me.
Food was great. However, it was freezing in the restaurant hence the low score on atmosphere.
waiters were dull and sauce for the poppadoms was unhygienic as the leftovers of sauce is put back into one container to be reserved!
Very bizarre experience - very rushed to order, some wait staff were friendly but others brusque and pushy. Meals were good, reasonably priced for vegetarian - but despite the constant rush from staff took over an hour to come out. Naan and rice were good but too expensive (rice especially). Interior lighting is a bit extreme (epilepsy warning) - seemed a good place for a session on the beers, but wouldnt go for dinner. Note that the chutneys given at the start are not complimentary - wasnt aware of this until we asked for the menu.
I have experienced one of the worst racist behaviours from the manager of this restaurant.
A group of my friends and colleagues had really good time, the food and service was excellent.
We had a small party organised by few colleagues for our organisation it was very hospitable, food was delicious, service was excellent every one of us enjoyed our meal thoroughly . We Highly recommend this place
Nice nan & chicken madras was good
Nice curry little restaurant though
Curry Queen never had no problem until now normally dine in and been amazing cost us just over 50 for everything but most of the curries wasnt even half filled and watered down called up had to argue my case theyy didnt want to believe us gave us one main side in the end after 15mins explaining dissapointed
Just ordered 55 quids and they curries werent even half way to the top
Very traditional restaurant offering excellent value for money, good food and service.
Best bhindi Ive had in Cambridge (and Ive tried most!). Other dishes were all good too and great prices and service, recommend
Been here a few times now, simply put its very nice food, has always came out in good time and the staff are polite. No complaints to make.
Food quality not great. The continual upselling during ordering was tiresome.
Highly recommend. Truly is the best Indian food I have ever tasted. Worldwide. Thank you so very much.
We ve been coming here and getting takeaway for many years now, the boss s lovely and we consistently enjoy great food and service! Thank you so much Curry Queen!
Absolutely disgusted and unsatisfied with the service provided by your company tonight on eid. First we waited well over an hour for food which is fine because it is Eid so we knew it would be busy. But they then sent my wifes order incorrectly and when we called to inform them that one of the curries are incorrect, they asked if we wanted it now or they can just give it to us next time we order. Not good enough really should have been an Apology first and then some form of offer regarding them correcting the error THEY made. When we just asked for the item that we had paid for, They said it would be a long wait and cannot we give BACK the item they delivered in Error!!!! ARE THEY PLANNING ON RESELLING THE OTHER CURRY ???? poor customer service will Not be ordering again.
Lovely place to get a curry. Friendly staff and the food is amazing. Now my post climbing regular!
Ate here earlier this week with my family. Great food and great service. Thanks DJ!
Had a choice of many places, but chose this due to the reviews, Like many people, I ve been to numerous Indian restaurants over the years but never have I been served microwaved popadoms before! I mean, how much trouble is it to make authentic popadoms ? My jalfrezi was acceptable but nothing memorable, along with the over cooked rice. I wouldn t return to this place.
Fantastic visit here tonight with my friend. The food was of brilliant quality but the service topped it all off. A special thanks to DJ for his and his team s hospitality. Will visit again.
Great service food was lovely
we were really pleased with the food and the service. The poppadoms nice and crispy with some good pickles ect... We are Vegetarians and found both our onion bhagi and our main meals tasty. Had a peshwari nan that was also good too. None of the food was greasy and found it all cost an average price as expected. We will visit again when in Cambridge.
Ordered chana masala and rice. Delivery was quick. Delivery person was not very polite though. The food could have been a bit more spicy. It was a tad bit on the sweeter side which is not expected from authentic chana masala.
Standard fair , friendly staff, food could better. Tried again in May, dish wasnt great at all, wasnt cooked fresh. Nice friendly staff however
Been coming here regularly for years, and the food is consistently good! Staff is also very friendly and will give good suggestions based on your preferences.
The food was good but the guy charged me 3 pounds for chutney which I didnt ask and eat ( saw him filling it back in the big can) and 2.95 pounds for water which I didnt ask. I was charged service charge too, so the bill was 10 pounds more than expected. I understand a little Bengali, I could understand the two guys who were serving contemplating if I was a student or not before bringing me the bill. Im guessing the reason why there are few people is because of this happening. Be careful while you order or else it is highly likely you are going to be scammed.
Ordered a takeaway via Just Eats. Arrived earlier than estimated, which was great. The driver went to the wrong address though, so had to direct him to my home. Food wasnt great - the meat in the lamb passanda was tough, and the meat in the chicken malwa was dry. The curry/sauce in both was overly sweet and lacked depth of flavour. Sure, they are mild curries, but Ive had these before elsewhere where they werent JUST sweet in flavour. The peshwari naan was nice, though one of them was, again. a little tough. Price-wise was OK (£25 for 2 curries and 2 peshwari naans, plus delivery) but wouldnt go back again due to quality.
I WISH THERE IS AN OPTION OF 0 Star or a NEGATIVE STAR . A HUGE SCAM! Please SAVE YOUR MONEY! They charged us £6:50 for chutney which we didn t ask for and 4 for service charges. So, On top of our bill they charged us more than £10 additional! What a waste of money! PLEASE Don t EVER go to this place, DON T. Rather go somewhere who are transparent in their dealings !
Curry Queen is the platinum jubilee of curry restaurants. Excellent service and excellent food!
A pleasant Indian restaurant with a nice menu . The staff helped with my adjustments to dishes that I requested. They don t rush you. The tasted very nice and came out in a timely manner not quick and not slow neither . We ordered more than we can eat and they put the rest in a doggy bag. Very nice of them. Price is reasonable and would come back again. Many thanks
Yummy food
The worst curry l have ever tasted in 45 years. Quality and taste is better from Iceland. Busy evening and staff did not allow time between courses
Really delicious food and wonderful service! Portion sizes were great. They have all the regular curries but also lots that Ive never seen before. Highly recommended!
This place is amazing. I work evenings so struggle for take out . These guys ALWAYS look after me. Super friendly staff. And kitchen team know what they are doing!
Ordered lamb biryani, chicken tikka biryani and prawn biryani. The food was really tasty. Staffs behaviour was so friendly. Highly recommended.
The food tasted very good on the whole. My starter of samosas was cold in the middle but piping hot on the outside. Seems that they didnt defrost the samosas before putting them in a deep fat fryer! Thank god I ordered veggie samosas. The waiters on the whole were good apart from their head waiter who was insistent that we ordered starters and main all at once so he could bring out all the food together. I dont think all this food would have fitted on such a small table that we were given. We told him we wanted to enyoy our starters before we started on our mains. He found this unacceptable and started harassing us to order our mains. We had booked a reservation for four and the place was two thirds empty which puzzled me why he was so interested into getting us in and out as quickly as he could...I said to my wife that the restaurant should be called curry in a hurry and not curry queen! My friend had enough of his behaviour and broke the cardinal rule of criticising the waiter before the food came out. All he said was we just want to enjoy his food and that we shall call him when we wanted to order. He didnt take this too kindly I felt. To be honest, I wanted to go to a different restaurant for my mains at this point but I didnt want to insult my friend who had invited us for an evening get together at his old eating place. I let caution to the wind and stayed, praying the food would be safe from interference (I will leave it at that)! The mains did taste very nice which puzzled me why they would try to jeopardize the success of the business in such precarious economic times with bad attitude? Everything was reasonably priced and the nans were made perfectly. ie not too toughy! I wouldnt go back there to have a meal but I would order a takeaway from there but under a different name!
Previously reviewed this last year still my favorite Indian restaurant. DJ & his team extremely welcoming & friendly. The food is excellent (I recommend the tandoori chicken wings starter). Generous portions, great value, & close to the bars & pubs on Mill Road. You will not leave the Curry Queen feeling hungry!
Ordered via Deliveroo took 2 hours to be delivered. When I rang to check on order after 1 hour and 45 minutes I was told to be patient on the phone :)
Order was 95 minuets late, food was delivered cold, half the order was missing or incorrect . Called restaurant for help after food was already 20 minutes late and spoken to with excuses before being hung up on. Food was not edible given temperature and quality of the food itself. Total waste of money and will be perusing a full refund. Ordered via the Deliveroo app. Not worth the money, and certainly falls far below its current 4 stars. Think twice before using this restaurant. There are far better.
Kind wraiters, good indian food.
We are a regular customer. We always find the staff attentive and happy to see you. The food is great value for money, extremely tasty and we have had some amazing meals here over the years with our family It s our favorite family restaurant to all join and eat at, as they are always so accommodating ****** +
Dropped in at 9:30pm on Saturday night. Friendly staff although I think the restaurant was ready to close. The food was tasty and good service. We had 3 main courses and beers for a very reasonable £55.
Excellent food highly recommended!
Great service! The wine was very good and affordable. We loved the chicken tikka and the butter chicken. V good quality food all round
Disappointing, rushed us to take drinks and order, then waited over an hour for food to be served after asking several times how long it would be, poppadoms tasted stale, rice was cold and meat was chewy.
Hmmmmm...... Not great. Not bad. But not great.
Great place many thanks to all the staff.
Poor quality of food and they even serve the hot food in cheap plastic container
Drinks were decent but a little overpriced. Food was good - bhaji and biryani in particular, but it was hard to make out what was written on the receipt so keep your order simple!
Absolutely loved it - the food was brilliant, not just bog standard British Indian fare, but different choices than what you expect to see, and great service. The waiters were super friendly, altogether great
Went out for a meal with my boyfriend. Had an amazing experience, staff were nice and very welcoming. 100% recommend
Excellent food, excellent value, very good service, delivered promptly.
Very friendly staff. The new manager is a star. Highly recommended!
Fabulous service and DJ is amazing. Couldnt recommend highly enough!
Fantastic Indian food, Main dish Chicken Slashlik Mosala was awesome, with tasty side dishes full of flavour. Extensive menu, & very good service & attentive. Will definitely be back ..Thank you
Tikka masala was the best. Walked in thinking not many tables but taken to upstairs with another bar and lots of tables. Paratha was the best I ever had. I like creamy dishes so asked for single cream which wasnt a problem. Omg what can I say
Really tasty curry. Clean and very friendly manager.
Went on a week day, quiet and chill atmosphere, the server was very friendly. Food was amazing and served relatively fast, would recommend to any Indian food Lover.
DO NOT ORDER TAKEAWAY ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, Ordered at 7pm and takeaway did not arrive until 9.08pm when it said 1 hour delivery online. We waited over 2 hours! When the man came we sent it back as we did not want it in the end. He then offered us the curry for £20 instead of the original price of £45! We said we still did not want it and he would not leave until my husband came to the door.
A regular customer for the past decade, and the quality of their food has always been top notch! With friendly staff and fantastic ambience, I highly recommend this restaurant for all sorts of occasions!
The worst curry Ive ever tasted if you can call it curry more like coloured water. I bought a chicken tikka Madras with pilla rice and a chicken curry with white rice with two nan breads. The chicken tikka had never seen tikka and the Madras curry wasnt spicy. The Pula rice wasnt ok pila rice. The only thing that was ok was the Nan breads. I tried to call them to complain but phone switched off. My advice is if anyone wants a curry in Cambridge definitely give this one a miss
One of the worst Biryanis ever eaten.... Service is pathetic... Service is provided on the basis of colour... All the Currys taste the safe... Worst ever experience...
Excellent traditional curries
Very good!
Very attentive good service. Food delicious.
An ok curry house. The food is adequate albeit a little pricey for what is offered. Service is somewhat too immediate with dishes taken away as you eat!! In summary, there are better places to eat than here and I d say , a fair view is try elsewhere.
The food was very good and the staff was very friendly as well.
