Welcome to Al Pomodoro, where the vibrant flavors of Italy come to life in the heart of Cambridge! Our story began with a shared vision between two cousins who wanted to create an authentic Italian experience for our customers. We wanted to transport them straight to Italy, immersing them in the warmth and charm of our beloved southern region: SICILY!
Surprisingly good Italian place. We took sup of the day which was the greatest option in cold weather. In addition we took rice balls with meat and pizza with buffalo mozzarella. Everything was so tasty and we would like to come another time to try something new. I would recommend the place to visit
The second time I was here and again was amazing! The food was delicious and the staff is always around and see if you need anything. The time that the food takes was a bit but normal as yoi can see everything was fresh. We brought our baby with 3 months old and they accomodate us very well. Very impressed! It's our favourite restaurant now.
We recently dined at Al Pomodoro and had an enjoyable experience. The ambiance was inviting, and the service was attentive. The food was delicious, with fresh ingredients and well-balanced flavors, but it didn’t quite reach the exceptional level to earn a full 5 stars. While I would recommend trying it out, there’s a bit of room for refinement to make it truly outstanding. Overall, a solid choice for a good meal.
I had the meat Arancini to start and it was absolutely divine, best one I’ve ever had, and I had the carbonara as a main which was incredible but a little too cheesy for me but that’s understandable, it’s a very powerful carbonara and that’s a good thing!! My mum had the seafood linguine which she also loved! 10/10
Popped in for the first time this morning to try breakfast after an appointment at coco coture and was not disappointed. Everything is so lovingly prepared, the staff are so welcoming and friendly. We now can’t wait to pop back at some point for lunch.
Very average food, perhaps bit overpriced. Service was very slow yet staffs were just chilling and relaxed. Menu might be bit unique compared to other Italian restaurants but the taste is nothing special. All the appetisers were good even though it was quite expensive but mains were horrible. All the pasta was so blend and bad, sauce itself doesn’t have much flavour, one of the mussels smell so bad thought it was gone off so lost my appetite, prawn looks big but only the shell, nothing much inside, steak was so disappointing, exactly like £4 ribeye from Tesco. I might give another try at some point to try other menus but I can tell if this is the taste I’m expecting id rather go somewhere cheap, Bella Italia is 2 min away and their foods are better
Had breakfast here last week. Wonderful Alessio greeted us and brought us to table and served. The food was Italian themed with some catering to the British taste and done wonderfully well so the food was not overly salted like some Full English. Eggs poached nicely with a nice rich yolk to dip. The absolute highlight was the fresh made on the day sourdough and the hospitality from Alessio
Interesting Menu The menu is very different to other restaurants in Cambridge. A lot of seafood options. The pasta dishes were nice and unique. With generous amount of seafood. Will try other things in the menu next time. Little bit surprised about the old stains on the cup and teapot, as it's a relatively high rated restaurant in Cambridge. Hope that the china will be cleaned well next time. I think this restaurant will be crazily popular if it's located down town!
We went as a big group, enjoyed the space that they reserved for us. Very roomy place ideal for celebrating something or going as a group, the ambiance was cool in Christmas season theme. Very nice bar, they allow you to choose your gin and tonic from a variety of selections. I went for Japanese Roku and grilled salmon with nice baby potatoes, zucchini, prawns and lovely sauce. It also comes with mixed salad, quite good food and authentic Italian cuisine.
Friendly and welcoming staff! They even offered us some cookies to try. The ambiance is cozy and lovely. I ll definitely be coming here again absolutely love the coffee, it s so good!
5 Stars as Usual. Real Italian.
Delicious and massive pizzas
Only visit when it s an annual work do as it s close by. Good food but expensive especially when 15% service charge is automatically put on top. Also extremely loud music. We ve come to talk to each other not listen to music we haven t chosen. I asked twice for music to be turned down as I and another person have a hearing problem. The waiter was bemused and asked turned down? . Perhaps he couldn t hear me but it s potentially discriminatory if a disability is ignored. The music was hardly touched so not a very nice experience. Also companion commented on lack of obvious vegan options for someone with gluten intolerance.
Friendliness, professionalism, accuracy in the choice of ingredients and a lot of passion: this is Al Pomodoro. Excellent and super abundant dishes. A certainty for those who want to eat Italian.
Had a great dinner for a large group at Al Pomodoro. Service was excellent, food was great with a good variety and they coped easily with a gluten free diner and a dairy free diner. Good price too! Dietary restrictions: Good options for those gluten free/celiac or lactose intolerant
Im not the biggest fan of Italian food anyway, so dont mind the 4 stars for food. I am however a big fan of the service here. Ive been a couple of times and each time, it was a friendly, chill, atmosphere. The staff were professional yet down to earth, super helpful, and a good laugh. They really knew their stuff too! Atila was practically a historian! If youre looking for a place with good food, charm, and class, this is it.
Freshly made panini and a coffee while I waited. Pizzas are great as well.
Great service and great food. Quick to get our food to us and was very helpful. Good atmosphere l, defiantly recommend
Attila has been absolutely amazing. We will definitely be coming back. What an absolute treat! Food was Devine!
Very bad experience as a delivery driver. Waiting 20,30 mins for 3£ order. And they are not even considering us as humans. Service : 1/5
Wonderful food. Attila our server was lovely with many great food suggestions. Would definitely come back again!
A very large choice of Italian dishes on the menu, and the ones we ate tasted really good, especially the octopus. Service was excellent and the staff very helpful. Late in the evening it was very busy, but we were seated in a quieter area which we enjoyed. Will definitely go again there for a meal.
Commendable food and ambience! Attila gave us incredible recommendations, must try! :) Food
Attila our guy!!
Great service, Attila
Great service and atmosphere with great food as well. Our waiter, Attila was brilliant throughout the night.
Wonderful resturant, attentive staff, best food in Cambridge, thanks Attila for finishing our stay in Cambridge. We will return.
I went to Al Pomodoro with some friends and we had a great time! The food was very good and the service was excellent. A big thank you to Attila who was our server and provided a very good service.
Delicious authentic food. Exceptional service by Attila as well
Lovely dinner and experience. Thank you Atilla for attending to us this evening. Food was exceptional. Food
Big menu to cater for all needs. Lovely atmosphere, friendly professional staff. Food was so very good. Lovely inside.
An impromptu early dinner, after a full day of exploring Cambridge in drizzle. Walked in for a pizza and walked out have really enjoyed a two course, date night meal. The food was outstanding, really well prepared and presented. The wine, which felt a little excessively priced, was thankfully very good. Greco Di Tufo. The service was impeccable. I only marked the atmosphere down due to being seated by the entrance over looking the bar and toilets, rather than being seated deeper in the main area of the restaurant. We must have had that give me pizza look on our faces, which of course we had, until we saw the menu.
Not an ideal experience.Vegetarian /Vegan Menu is reasonable but not as varied as what many high street Italian restaurants offer. Ordered a Coke Zero but never got it but was charged for it on the bill. I had to draw attention when the bill arrived. The staff disappeared after serving our pizzas and I had to get up and go to the front desk to get attention. Two salt shakers were left by the waiter instead of salt & pepper. For this kind of service they added £6.65 ( 12%) to the bill without asking as this is discretionary. I m not sure I would recommend this place .
Staff are not attentive to customers, despite being a week day and few other customers.
Very good and comfortable
We visited Cambridge 2 weekends ago, it was lovely to have found Al Pomodoro restaurant. Tasty, fresh food, nice atmosphere and the staff especially Federico were very helpful, professional and friendly. Definitely a place we recommend. Antonio & Martin
Great food! Went for dinner and it was right what I needed! Pulpo delicious! Good service!! Highly recommend!
Nick was a very friendly server the restaurant had beautiful decor and the food was very delicious I would definitely come back Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly and accommodating
I am an ordinary customer and with my husband have appreciated this restaurant since the opening! Great food freshly cooked in a warm and friendly atmosphere!
Nice to feel home, such a pity the fish was a bit dry. I felt it was overly price for what we had. I think this is a good place for pizza and pasta only.
Great food. Great service. A bit of confusion and delays in the kitchen but all sorted with aplomb.
I celebrated my 30th birthday here at Al Pomodoro last friday and let me tell you how everything was perfect, the staff was lovely and friendly, the food was really good and the portions really big ,expecially the penne al cartoccio (my favourite). If you are looking for authentic Italian food made with love and passion this is the only place in town where you can find all of the above. Thank you Alessio, Federico and all the staff for making my night special!
This is the best Italian restaurant in Cambridge! I have been enjoying lovely meals there for years. The staff are lovely, friendly, professional and attentive without being intrusive. The food is great with ample portions for the price. The restaurant has been recently refurbished and is very welcoming with a buzzing atmosphere at dinner time.
Lovely experience and disability friendly staff.
Just being refurbished now. Service good and food was lovely. Recommend.
Dined here last night for the first time with friends.. Will definitely return. The food was delicious and good sized portions. We all had different dishes and each one was super. Very busy vibe, but that just added to the atmosphere. Umberto the owner made us feel very welcome.
Very good food and kind server!
It was my birthday and I feel like my table was totally forgotten about until it was time to serve food or pay the bill barley even then. As a Person of color I hope they was just having an off night and that not how they actually treat us. Service was lackluster barely got any attention when I see other tables got checked on and good service. Felt rushed and I asked for water totally forgotten. I had to flag waiters down and seem like inconvenience to them. Had to Pre order food but it didn t matter to them I guess took a very long time for food or them to ask if we re ready for service again had to flag someone down. When it came time to pay the bill I had to remind the server about the reservation fee they charged me before to be added to the bill. The server handled well but still very unorganized and further my statement that we was afterthought the whole night to them. I felt like I didn t belong with how we were treated.
First class authentic Italian food.
Food and service was amazing, Evas service was Exceptional, highly recommend, will be coming again Food
Excellent food and wonderful service from Federico. The reservation system could be clearer. Food : 5/5
The place was neat, professional and Federico was really helpful and friendly, our food was brought quickly, the taste was nothing less than perfect, and the prices are quite reasonable for food and service this good.
We are from the US and every time we visit our son, we MUST come here. It is FABULOUS, just as good as being in Sicily and honestly even better than the restaurants we have eaten in Sicily. We have never had an even average meal here already amazing! Federico took great care of us too, can t wait to come back. Vegetarian options: Everything is fantastic but the bruschetta is particularly delicious
Dinner was great, the service was efficient and the pricing for the portion size was fantastic! Will be back
Its difficult to find a real Italian restaurant abroad. Honest bill, super local, excellent ingredients... Amazing Carbonara
My experience was very bad. We were 8 people ordering a bunch of stuff. The we had 3 adult pasta dishes, a couple of pizzas and child menus. One of the pizzas was with pistachio. Unfortunately we couldnt enjoy the pizza because it had pistachio shells as well. Hopefully we didnt break any teeth. The second surprise was with the carbonara. We had one adult and one child. The two dishes were like it was one portion split into two plates. We compared with the other dishes we ordered and they were significantly smaller. Even though we complained for both things we only got some excuses like spaghetti takes less space than penne and also offered one ball of ice cream! Very generous for 8 people!
Average food, was not impressed. The place needed a good clean. Staff were okay, but did not go above and beyond
Nothing special with high prices. Overall: wouldn t go again.
Fabulous restaurant in the charasmatic heart of hills road!! Food absolutely delicious and excellent staff.
The food is great. The prices are in line with the rest of Cambridge scenery. Lots of choices and a nice familiar atmosphere.
Great place where I ve been for lunch Food is authentic Italian, with all my allergies they provided great service - including getting me gluten free bread on purpose! I appreciated the attention to client and very curious to be there for breakfast ( the espresso is wow!)
Great experience, food and hospitality
Great Sicilian food
Great pizza, great authentic Italian food and service is top notch! Would strongly recommend! Prices are now competitive again (probably because all similar restaurants raised their prices) Food : 4/5
Amazing! 3rd time coming here and decided to try the surprise menu , it was amazing! Food tasted great and the team were fantastic, explaining each dish, friendly and attentive throughout. Would 100% recommend anyone to come and try it!
We tried the Meat Surprise Menu . Delicious food, generous portions, and the service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Food
Food super delicious, if you want to eat a real authentic Italian pizza this is the perfect place!! Super recommended and enjoy the italian taste :) Thank Federico for your service, very funny italian guy
Lived up to the expectations of a good authentic Italian restaurant . Delicious food and great service . Thank you
Great company food fantastic service good the place was full of families and groups of people only caveat no draught larger only small bottles at top end prices. We will return. Food
They served is raw octopus and took 8.95 off the bill. Avoid , moody manager too. Plenty of better other places in cambridge
Fantastic place, I spent 4 weeks eating here constantly. Miss the lasagna, I recommend it Elena
Had a meal here with two friends. The restaurant was busy but not loud, the staff were lovely. Every dish carried past us smelled absolutely amazing. We ordered two different pizzas and a lasagne. The portions were good sizes. The wrong pizza was brought out to me. They apologised and very quickly brought me the correct one, fresh from the oven. The pizza base especially was just amazing. Really top notch restaurant.
Waited 50 min my order. I use to come here when I lived Cambridge. So many things have been changed apparently , including place , food quality and service speed .:(( not happy.
Very pleasant dinner. Amazing food Special tanks to Carlo for his suggestions Food : 5/5
Enjoyed the pizza and the service was good. The only improvement I would suggest is consider implementing sharper knives or a pizza cutter. All 6 of us struggled to cut the pizza with the knife we were provided with.
this restaurant was upsetting! the food was tasteless and unseasoned. even with a kilo of salt it was unpleasant the music was too loud and did not fit the vibe. in addition, they added a 18£ service fee (for 7 people) for a mediocre service. in total it was way too expensive for this kind of performance. all in all, we are more than disappointed.
Good food and pleasant service. The place can get a bit loud but still recommended.
Beautiful place to eat and and enjoy with friends, the head chef is absolutely fantastic as his job. Well done Antonio Food
Worst place ever , 1 hour wait for food , worst place to bring kids . No staff
Surprised by the delicate and quite perfect traditional Italians. The manner was really nice and lovely and touched by the accommodating and welcomings. Pretty sure that it is the best of the town.
Wonderful food and had an enjoyable time celebrating a birthday. It is a place I would reconmend for decent Italian food
Lovely pizza. Not sure if it was busy when I went, but took a while for the waiter to come and check our bill. However, super friendly staff.
Love the food, Umberto was amazing such a great host incredible atmosphere the place to go in Cambridge for Italian food !!!!
Best Italian restaurant in Cambridge! This place gives an extraordinary dining experience that truly transports you to the heart of Italy. Food is amazing with an authentic Italian taste and fresh ingredients! Staff is very friendly, from the moment you walk in, you feel the warmth.. looking forward to my next visit
Excellent staff, food and atmosphere. Best italian restaurant in Cambridgeshire. Food
Had such a great time at Al Pomodoro, the food was excelent, very delicious, spot on. Service, brilliant, lovely people, smiles all around, very welcoming and warm. Thank you very much to the staff member that allowed me to take the rose! Grazie mille! Food : 5/5
Top Top Top!!! Excellent experience. Family holiday. 8 of us were looking for an Italian restaurant already aware that many pass themselves off as such without ever having tasted our cuisine but here I have to say: Its all true! We arrive without a reservation for the first time in Cambridge and Umberto, the owner, welcomes us as if we were the most important guests. They bend over backwards to prepare a table for us. Very nice place, spacious and well kept. Excellent staff. Spectacular pizza and pasta clearly made with Italian products. Delicious tiramisu and nutella pizza! Excellent price. Umberto and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Truly super recommended!
Amazing gluten free food! Gluten free pizza and gluten free pasta! So good with cross contamination.
The bolognaise is phenomenal
Incredible staff and fab food! Accommodated for gluten free too
Incredible food and fantastic service. I would even consider the 1.5 hour travel to dine here again
Very warm welcome! And excellent dishes Thanks to Federico for the fennel digestive!!! A great discovery
Excellent meal, great service from Federico. Will definitely come again
Excellent service EXCELLENT food everything ok
Excellent food. Great service. Rav is turned this place around. Well done
I took awhile to get served drinks and the same for the main course. The food was nothing special (I had a lasagna which was almost 2/3 ragu). I didn t find the quality matching the prices.
Great food and service. Has a piano, but not sure if its only for decoration or also gets played on sometimes. Vegetarian options: They have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
One of the best spaghetti carbonara in Cambridge. We had the seafood risotto and it was delicious as well. Very polite staff and cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Food
When we booked we emailed in stating all my allergens (pistachios, pine nuts, cashews, nuts etc)). When we ordered we asked for no nuts and repeated this to them. They ensured us that there would be no nuts in any of the dishes. I ate some of the antipasti and was immediately hit with an allergic reaction and found that there were pine nuts on my plate. when questioning the staff they said that pine nuts were not a real nut and blamed it on the chefs not understanding. But this could kill someone. Not impressed
Came here for the first time this week for a work lunch and the whole experience was absolutely fantastic. There were 12 of us and had ordered ahead, the food came promptly, hot and fresh and really delicious. I usually expect the standard to drop slightly when you re in a large group but not here, everything was perfect. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming and I can t wait to visit here again soon! Thank you Al Pomodoro for a really lovely lunch.
Pizza is okay, big portions.
The food is proper Italian and super delicious! Its difficult to chose what to get as so many plates look delicious! The staff is very friendly.
A new amazing place for breakfast in Cambridge I can highly recommend. Al Pomodoro is very popular for lunches and dinner and are now serving breakfast every day from 8am. Great selection of cooked breakfast dishes, artisan bread, croissants and other amazing sweet pastries baked fresh every morning. Delicious eggs benedict and the fluffiest tastiest pancakes (pistacchio and banana is yum). Plus awesome coffee for just £2.80!
Best Italian restaurant in the area!!
I used to order their food for delivery, but the last couple of times, it was a really disappointing experience. The first time we ordered burgers using the Deliveroo application, and what we got was just a chicken breast wrap in pizza bread. Does that sound like a burger to you? That was truly disappointing because I expected to get an actual burger, not just meat in pizza! The next situation, I was craving garlic bread with cheese, and I ordered it. Guess what I got? Cheese pizza, without any garlic inside it, not even the smell of garlic, nothing. Whats the point of fooling people? Remove these dishes from your delivery menu if you cant cook them properly. Its really crucial when you order something and pay a decent amount of money for it, and in the end, you dont get what you wanted! If I want pizza, I will order it, but if Im ordering a burger or garlic bread, I want to get that, not pizza instead! Stop fooling people!
A lovely authentic Italian with some great food and a nice atmosphere
Two of us went and we were sat near the front of the restaurant , close to bar. I found the noise being so close to other restaurant guests very distracting and annoying. Tables are very close together. Every 30 mins they emptied ice into a container in the bar area and was very loud. Next time I would ask to sit further in the restaurant. The menu is big and lots of choice. I ordered lamb chops and they were really nice. All the food looked delicious. Staff were attentive and polite and quick service. I hope to visit again and try their pizza.
Tasty pizza Vegetarian options: Lot of vegetarian pizza options Food : 4/5 |
Child and adult friendly. Willing to make adjustments to meals and let you try a wine if you are not sure Dietary restrictions: Willing to take out or add ingredients Kid-friendliness: Crayons
Great choice for breakfast. Large portions and great price, especially given the quality of ingredients. I had pistachio banana pancakes, highly recommended. Also, one of the few places that sell orzo coffee, in case you want to stay caffeine free. Italian pop music in the background a plus.
Went here recently before a gig and was really disappointed. My wife ordered the steak (£29) and I order a pizza (£15ish). Food came out quick enough. The steak had been ordered medium and was rare at best with some very chewy fatty bits and very pink, definitely not medium. My pizza, the crust was ok but the closer to the centre of the pizza I got the wetter it was. Just not cooked properly. Youd think and Italian place would do pizza easily enough but nope. We told them the issue and they offered to refire it all but wed been put off and drank up. They didnt make us pay for the food which I respect. Its a shame because reviews were good but we clearly just caught them on an off day. I wouldnt go again.
The atmosphere at Al pomodoro is really great. Their service is absolutely amazing and all the staff is really friendly. Also the drinks are really nice and the best part is their pizza. The best experience i had at Al pomodoro. Must visit.
a real Italian restaurant with food that will make you want to come back .
Very clean, courteous staff. It was very busy, so you can overlook some of the missing service (topping up wine/water, clearing plates before the espresso is served). The volume takes some getting used to. If you turned the music down a little, the guests might talk more quietly. (It hardly bothered me, though). The food came quickly and was warm. The presentation of the food was nice to look at. Unfortunately, the taste of the food is hardly convincing. Salt and pepper were available upon request. The final espresso was of good coffee quality, unfortunately it ran through the machine too quickly and was rather watery. Lets hope that the chef had a bad day and that the food tastes better on another (possibly) visit.
Amazing string Italian coffee and delicious croissant for breakfast today. Recomnended
Dietary restrictions: They have the most amazing gluten free pizza ever!!! Food
Amazing food, warm people, lovely gluten free pizza. Dietary restrictions: Amazing and large Gluten free pizza. Definitely something to come back for! Food : 5/5 | Service
very over priced had no home made pasta. wouldnt recommend
Great service, nice and clean. Food can be improved a lot
The tasting menu was amazing! I loved the tortellini ai noci and the cheesecake! The staff was very friendly and attentive, especially the Argentine girl who helped us. We will return without a doubt.
First visit today to celebrate a family member s birthday and pleased to have found this gem of a restaurant. Great service and atmosphere, extremely tasty food, this is a must eat at establishment. Yummy desserts, you ll have to take my word for it!
Amazing Food and Service
Lovely food great service very helpful and friendly staff.
A wonderful meal with exceptional service.
Lovely place :)
First visit, lovely food would highly recommend
Authentic Italian restaurant. Very good food. Best value for your money! Pizza is gorgeous, pasta and starters .everything
Delicious food, nice service. I recommend
Frederico at the restaurant was an amazing host for us
Great food and lovely staff. Do go!
Lovely food and lovely location.
Great lunch from an authentic Italian, large portions, nice pizza and the antipasto allitaliana was amazing! Catered for everyone with an extensive menu. We appreciated that kids could order a small portion of any of the adult pasta dishes if they didnt fancy the kids menu - a hit with our eldest! Recommend!
Frederico was an incredible host, and the food as always was fantastic!!
The service was amazing. The restaurant was busy yet the staff always made time to be kind and accomodating. Delicious food on top of it all!
Ferderico was fantastic and very welcoming and professional. Absolutely loved the food and would recommend to Gordon Ramsey himself!
The lowest quality/price ratio for a dinner Ive ever had in my life. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Not because of the price, but because of disappointing quality of food and staff attitude. First, staff is extremely intrusive and cant accept no. While we were still reading the menu, the waiter ask us if we want to have something to drink right now. We refused because we wanted to order some wine served with the food, and the waiter withdrew. When we were ready to make an order, the waiter again asked us if we want to have some water. We refused again and tried to order what we really wanted. Then we were asked AGAIN about damn water. At this point, we surrendered to this choking hospitality. So, we got 750 ml of absolutely unwanted water for 5.5 pounds. Thanks, I guess? It was a really cheap trick, which I didnt expect from the restaurant pretending to be elite. Second, for the price of 26 pounds spezzatino di manzo was absolutely terrible. Ive expected some good and seasoned stew, but the beef meat was chewy and low-quality. Potatoes were not cooked properly, so they were half-raw and solid in the core. The dish was extremely underseasoned. So, it was just a poorly made goulash with a fancy italian name, but it screamed British cuisine. Salmon pasta was adequate, but it was poorly seasoned as well, so it wasnt bad only because it was plain. Third, one hour of waiting time for the main dish is not good considering having half-cooked potatoes and that more than a half of the tables were empty. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the starter, which is polpette della casa (meatballs in tomato sauce), was quite good. Too sad, other meals were absolutely underwhelming and disappointing. While it wasnt enough to destroy our evening, I definitely regret visiting this place. Also, for such a price you can find far better restaurants in the center of London.
I was there twice and the food was excellent! Pizza was delicious
Really nice place to enjoy Italian food. Pasta came a bit colder than expected
The chicken and the salad were dry. Starter and dessert were nice. My husband risotto was nice but very small amount. Prices are very high and not good quality, sorry.
Vegetarian options: Also vegan options Food
Amazing Italian traditional food. One of the best pizzas I had in the UK and great pasta. Big portions, so we could get take away some lunch for the following day! Absolutely recommended and would go back!
The food served here is one of the best Italian food you can eat at Cambridge. Im giving 3 star as my mate is non-white and the waiter did not speak to him at all. This racist attitude must stop at this restaurant.
Very nice italian restaurant, probably the best in town! The atmosphere is great and the staff is friendly enough. We have tried a selection of different starters and then moved onto mains, including pasta and pizza. Someone might comment on the price being above the average market price in Cambridge. However, it has to be mentioned that the portions were generous and the ingredients were very good quality. It was definitely recommended for whoever wants to try an authentic Italian experience! 5 stars overall!
Booked a table for 6 and arrived on time at 7pm and were seated in a small very cold room away from the main restaurant. This was the same room the deliveroo workers collected from so the door was always being opened. Starters came at 7.30pm and were excellent. Sadly we didnt get our mains until 9pm and when they did arrive some were only warm going cold. Dessert arrived at 10pm and were very good. This was the second time of eating at Al Pomodoro the first occasion was much better having sat in the warm main restaurant with less time between courses. I would think twice before going back a third time.
Must visit in Cambridge!
Lovely restaurant that we have visited before and enjoyed. We went for a family Sunday lunch with 3 generations (all grown up). This particular visit was a little disappointing. There was a long wait before the starters arrived - over an hour from when we arrived at our ( booked) table. As a result we were rushed at the end of the lunch as we had other commitments. The atmosphere was good and we enjoyed the wine. Starters once they arrived were ok - a delicious aubergine parmigiana stands out. However the main courses were disappointing. My main course was the swordfish with aubergine and pasta, which I really didnt enjoy. The pasta and the swordfish were rubbery and the sauce way too salty. I left most of it. My sister had the swordfish parmagiana which was also too salty and the sauce completely overwhelmed the fish. The vegan pizza (which 2 people had) had no cheese on it at all and was fairly tasteless. We didnt have time for dessert.
Umberto and Rav helped me a lot organising a fab surprise. My family and I approved...this is an automatic Sicilian restaurant.
Tasty Italian food. Portion sizes have decreased over a period of time but still worth it.
Disappointing...we have had lovely meals here before, including pizza, but this time the quality of the food was underwhelming. We collected our pizza on time, but it was already cold and same time burnt and the dough was chewy.
Authentic reasonably priced Italian eatery. Extensive and varied menu. Friendly, calm and efficient sey
Tasty food for a reasonable price. A couple of vegan options. Service is slow however.
The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and interior. The portions were very good but unfortunately we were a bit disappointed by on of the dishes. We had the starter aubergine which was very tasty, the lasagna al forno and the penne with mozzarella. The last dish was not what we expected. The pasta wasnt cooked properly and it lacked taste. The wine was good. The service was average. The person that welcomed us was very friendly but the waiter didnt make us feel welcome at all.
We went for a Sunday lunch with my partner and the food took an awful lot to come. After almost an hour, the arancinetto for sharing arrived, which was really good. However, the mains took another 20-25min to arrive and the carbonara was quite disappointing - the guanciale wasn t crispy, the pasta was a bit dry (and clearly not fresh) and there wasn t much pepper. My partner went for the gnocchi, which were good. Overall, an OK experience but wouldn t go back
Visited for dinner ahead of a show at the junction. We were welcomed and seat fast, restaurant nicely decorated and well spaced tables. Took a little while to get drinks and food ordered. Food was good especially the carpichio octopus for starters, recommend! Staff friendly, good portions and nice menu, pizzas looked great, we will visit again.
Fantastic gem in Cambridge. Arancini best weve had outside of Italy. Mains all a hit and the tiramisu delightful. Service excellent nothing was too much trouble. Definitely coming back when we are next in Cambridge. Keep doing what youre doing.
It was s. Valentine day and the restaurant was more than full! We took arancini, carpaccio di polpo (octopus), rice with gamberi of mazara del vallo, pizza, garlic bread and pasta for our daughter, and frittura di calamari. All was very good! I drank the best non alcoholic mojto passion fruit of my life and, to finish: tiramisu the king of dessert. The tiramisu worth a standing ovation. Superb. Dietary restrictions: I have some allergiesand they cooked a part for me.
Food absolutely amazing, service also fantastic, I even forgot to ask them to take the booking deposit off my fee but they were very kind and refunded me afterwards. Would 100% recommend.
Dietary restrictions: They have gluten-free options, which is good as not always found in all restaurants. Food
Best Calzone ever
A brilliant place to eat and meet friends They even let me play the piano! Vegetarian options: Good option Wheelchair accessibility: Excellent
Excellent food with a lots of menu choices.
Great pizzas, good prompt service. Highly recommended Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options are a big plus Food : 4/5 |
Traditional cuisine, you can feel the all-Italian familiarity and, as Siciliana I also say Sicilian. Scent of Italy!! Well done!
They managed to get wrong 3 times a white wine and a lemonade. After we had eaten, made us feel as if we should leave even thouh we still had drinks asked so many times if we wanted anything (the bill). Food
Great authentic Italian, family owned with delicious food and very friendly staff. Will be back again definitely.
On our third trip here we were served carbonara with a piece of metal from a scouting pad in it. Although we were told this doesnt usually happen their first offer was free soft drinks for the meal, we had to push for them to include a bottle of wine that we had drunk too. At the time I didnt push it as my newborn daughter was in ICU but on reflection I dont think this was an appropriate response, especially given the level of danger to the person served the carbonara. To make matters worse the manager tried to make awkward smalltalk with me afterwards when actually thats the last thing I wanted to do. Its a shame because we wanted to make this a regular venue that we go to. Im including a photo of a similar piece of metal for reference. Its a shame, because this review could have been so much better (despite the fact it was freezing in the restaurant). But if you cant get food safety right, then whats the point.
I got the worst food poisoning Ive ever had from eating the seafood linguine at Al Pomodoro. Very disappointed as I was excited to visit after reading all the good reviews. Will not be returning.
Went there with my wife and a guest of ours. 3 people. Service was very considerate. Atmosphere was very lively on Friday evening. I asked for whatever they have best from vegetarian section. Cassaracea alla norma was cold and so undercooked, could not eat. Returned. Was not charged for it. Thanks for that. Then ordered garlic bread which was burnt. Could not eat. Left 3/4th portion. Fortunately the dish ordered by our guest friend was enjoyed by her. Pizza ordered by my wife was left half uneaten. She doesn t complain much anyway. But usually she takes away if she can t finish. She didn t ask for take away. I have heard a lot of positives about the place so went there. I can see a lot of people giving positive reviews. I am going to try once more as one should not make an opinion on basis of just one visit. I hope to have better food next time. If I enjoy my food next time I will edit my review.
So disappointed. The service, the food, the wine, the ambiance. There are many other far, far better places at and below the prices charged here. Food : 1/5
Delighted to join meal in this restaurant. Meal the best pizza in UK ever. Wateres were kind and price is wery good. Prefer to eat there if you visit Cambridge and if you like Italian food. Thank you Al Pomodoro
It may be a little difficult to get to because its far from the station and city center, but the Italian food (Sicilian food?) served in a calm interior is very elegant and tastes great.
The starters are amazing and big portions. Vegetarian options: Usually you can find 2 dishes for vegetarian, but in this restaurant there were a much more selection. Recommended. Food : 5/5 |
Got the fish carpaccio, steak with mushrooms and tiramisu. The fish was mediocre, nothing special. The steak was really not good - bad cut, so much tendon, poorly salted, not aged. I ve had better steak at the supermarket. The tiramisu and wine was fab.
Good food, well prepared dishes and very friendly staff. Strong dish arancini, highly recommended.
Mega portions, delicious food. Super friendly staff. Very accepting of children. The toilets were in a bad state, wet floor etc when I came, brought my overall experience down.
Fab, authentic Italian restaurant. The food was great and it had a lovely atmosphere too.
Delicious food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere. I will definitely be going back when Im next in Cambridge.
Excellent welcome with well-trained and friendly staff. Excellent starter more than plentiful and I didnt imagine eating an Excellent pizza in England in Cambridge to be precise. Excellent choice of venue, its difficult to find better. A huge thank you to all the staff and to my niece who chose this place.
Great all round experience. Fantastic food, friendly efficient staff. Will be back.
Lovely restaurant and staff good pizzas but they dont put much effort into their salads. So great if you dont like salad!!
First time going to this restaurant and I was surprised by the quality of the food and also by it variety!!!! Dietary restrictions: I am allergic to black pepper, garlic and chillies and the restaurant was able to accommodate my needs . Wheelchair accessibility: This restaurant is at street level and it has tables with no steps in between.
Good size portions. Comparably to another restaurant they took over at the same place. This one is much better! Food : 5/5
Got ours arancini hot on the outside and cold on inside. When asked the waiter he came back with them this time with good temperature. Although they just chucked them back in the microwave rather than replacing them with a new once properly cooked. Shame on it. Otherwise ok. Won t be coming back tho.
Very slow service , although it did not look busy at all. The food was nice, but came out cold , overall looks like nice place but disappointing experience, prices are on the high side.
Food was ok but not great. It came out slow and lukewarm. Very loud in the restaurant and service was slow. I won t be returning.
Pretty sure Ive reviewed here before. We were an impromptu table for 15 on a Sunday evening post-bowling. Food was excellent as always. The pizzas are good, but youre missing a tricky if you dont get the pasta, which is really excellent. They are always fine with kids, picky eaters and a bit of noise. Parking: Parking at the cinema/bowling complex and cross the road. Kid-friendliness: They seem to love kids.
thr best restaurant in Cambridge. I was really Impressed how fresh was their fish dishes. I recommend scallop and seafood starters
