4 King's Parade, Cambridge CB2 1SJ, United Kingdom
Established in the early 1900's, The Copper Kettle is embedded in the history of Cambridge - a landmark, the centrepiece of college life situated directly overlooking the world famous Kings College Chapel. From the days of the quintessential tea room stretching over two floors in the early 20th Century students, tutors and visitors alike have played their part in the transformation of The Copper Kettle to the modern day vibrant mix of traditional café and Mediterranean delight.
Beautiful location! Sitting on a wooden chair having my warm lentil soup looking through the window at one of the most prestigious colleges. I loved this experience. Highly recommended.
The Copper Kettle in Cambridge is a delightful place for a relaxed meal with a perfect view of one of the city's famous colleges. Its large windows allow natural light to flood the interior, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. The setting feels both casual and elegant, making it ideal for breakfast, a casual tea break, or a light Mediterranean-inspired meal. We visited for breakfast and tea before embarking on another walk around the beautiful city, and it was an excellent start to the day. The menu offers a nice variety of Mediterranean dishes, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. The breakfast selection was particularly good, with options that cater to both traditional and more adventurous tastes. We enjoyed our tea as well, served in a relaxed manner that allowed us to linger and enjoy the lovely view of the college across the street. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which made the experience even more pleasant. The staff ensured we were comfortable and had everything we needed without any rush, making it easy to enjoy the moment. The cafe's location is perfect for anyone looking to take in the sights of Cambridge, as it is situated in a bustling area that is still peaceful enough for a quiet meal. Overall, The Copper Kettle is a wonderful spot for anyone visiting Cambridge, especially if you're looking for a charming, light-filled space to enjoy a leisurely meal. Highly recommended!
This restaurant located near the Cambridge university has a review that is way different than my expectations. The food we ordered, which is Sirloin steak and CK burger has a price that didn’t match both the quality and quantity. The CK burger cost 15 pounds and all it serves is 2 thick bread, some lettuce pieces and a fried beef thin as paper. The taste overall is mediocre, a burger that can easily be made from a culinary newbie. The steak cost 24 pounds but it feels dry and coarse. The taste is mediocre still, with a bare salty. It mostlybecause it doesn’t deserve the price. However, the service is awesome and the atmosphere, as long as it is not rain or having a thunderstorm, is awesome, with breeze blowing, and some sunshine spread out on your back, best atmosphere ever
Did lunch here and had the two course special (I chose red lentil soup and chicken curry) for 20. The soup was more cream style (I prefer whole lentils), but was decent. Curry was also decent. Overall the food was fine, just not great. Good wine selection for a Mediterranean restaurant. Location is superb, as was the staff - but service was exceptionally slow. Lots of tourists here and in area. Lots of outdoor seating. Affordable for a tourist area. Would visit here again on a sunnier day for lunch outside if I knew I didn’t need to get away quickly.
I went with my family to visit Cambridge for the day and we ate here. Food was simple and enjoyable. We had the two course meal and were allowed to pick and choose how we wanted the 2 course meal e.g., starter and main or main and dessert. They also had 3 course meal. We had avocado & prawn cocktail, chicken curry with rice, lemon tart and strawberry cheesecake.
A perfect spot for breakfast/brunch. It was quiet the morning I went, it was a Tuesday. We sat in the front window and watched the cycles go by headed to work. Service was good, no complaints. We ordered coffee and water for drinks. We ordered a Turkish breakfast and the Healthy Body waffles but substituted strawberries for bananas. The food arrived in an appropriate amount of time. There wasn’t a rush to finish. We enjoyed the view and the food. We will definitely be back again.
Always loved this place. Situated at the heart of Cambridge, just opposite to King's College, it offers food at a very reasonable price. Service was great and as usual food was awesome. Best part of it all is to absorb the Cambridge life while having your lunch just beside the window or sitting outside.
The baklava with a dollop of vanilla ice cream is to die for. Run, don’t walk, there. Reasonably priced food in the heart of Cambridge. Service is great and the owner was there to greet us. Hear the lamb shank is excellent. Will have to come back.
Real Turkish coffee; excellent baklava.
Not the cheapest place but lovely food, I sat here for a couple of hours while my mum attended the church service and they did not try to rush me out. I enjoyed the hash browns and hummous which were very tasty.
I went for breakfast on a Saturday. The staff are very friendly and the service was quick. Unfortunately, the full english breakfast that I ordered was underwhelming, it wasnt terrible but was really basic. It was similar to what you would expect from a cafe but more expensive. A friend at the table ordered smashed advocado with bacon on toast and that looked a lot nicer and was seasoned. So, overall it wasnt a negative experience but I suggest you dont order the full english if you are going for breakfast.
Loved it !! Really great food and friendly place with Kings College a back drop x
Excellent meal and very pleasant and friendly staff. It will definitely be one of our favourite places when we visit Cambridge again.
Was recommended to go here for scones. Very nice place, service good & staff friendly.
Good fare and a good environment. Relaxed, clean, and a whole wall of photos of famous customers.
Nice breakfast
A five-star place. We visited The Copper Kettle several times, mainly for lunch, during our recent stay in Cambridge and enjoyed the food, friendly service, and the central location of the restaurant every time.
Lovely cafe. Had a great full English breakfast. Staff very friendly and welcoming
Called in for a cup of tea, and had a slice of millionaires shortbread to help it down. Great location in Cambridge. Food on other tables looked good. Parking: In a pedestrianised area so none near.
I love Turkish breakfast places. There are loads of them in Greater London. This one in Cambridge is in a prime location and very well set up. However the food is probably the worst I have ever had in similar places in the UK. The prices are premium , but what they give you is cheap as chips. I had their version of Turkish breakfast. It included cucumber slices (cut many hours before and dry), dirt cheap plum cherry tomatoes, low quality Turkish feta cheese, cheddar cheese, egg and 4-5 bits of sudjuk - beef sausage. £13 or so for this. Id say the value of the ingredients is around £3. Very disappointed with it, wont go there again despite the decent coffee and service. I suggest the owner pays a visit to some of the London Turkish breakfast places and see what they offer to their customers.
Cozy, nice food, friendly, efficient staff, my order was ready in just minutes. I appreciate a lot the vegan breakfast option. Vegetarian options: Very grateful for the vegan breakfast option.
Good atmosphere and staffs are friendly behaviour.
A cool cafe near kings college
A bit slow service. My coffee has bee delivered after 15 minutes and it wasnt hot.
We had lunch here on the day we visited Cambridge University. There are many photos hanging on the wall, it seems like celebrities are visiting? Food is ok. We had lunch here on the day we visited Cambridge University. There are many photos hanging on the wall, it seems like celebrities are visiting? Food is ok.
We all enjoyed our meals. Probably best to eat inside on a hot day
Very good restaurant with excellent food!!!
Expensive Mediocrity
Very slow service. Poor-quality food - industrially made scone, nasty, cheap, jelly-like jam. Not clotted cream. Very bad value for money, extremely disappointing. £17 for a tea, 2 coffees and an unpleasant scone with sub-par cream and jam. Gorgeous spot outside, right on King s Parade, but not worth eating here.
Always busy, always good food and service
Excellent service, very accomadating. Order taken quickly, food came quickly. Nice, comfortable outdoor seating also. Food was great. Spot on. Food
The halloumi fries are SO good!
A fantastic little place with a view of Kings College Chapel.... A great place to take a moment and relax. Good food, tea, coffee and friendly staff. Food
One of the few places that open early on a Saturday morning! Nice little outfit; decent breakfast. Had the avocado toast. Good value too!
Refused to give us a table by the window even though it was empty - poor behaviour of the staff as well. Wouldn t recommend it to the tourists. There are much better places around King s Parade and city centre. Edit (in response to their reply): Your version sugarcoats reality. Our table change request was rudely rejected, leaving us stuck at a wobbly corner table. From start to finish, the experience was underwhelming.
Very tasty! Nice atmosphere and kind staff Thank you
Popped in for lunch, we both had beautifully cooked full English breakfasts & a side of hash brown puffs. 5* food, lovely customer service & atmosphere spot on
Good food served by friendly staff. Thanks
A sweet business operating in the most beautiful part of Cambridge city..
I found the staff to be rather unpleasant and unprofessional. Try to charge me £3.60p for a tea to take away. Charge you same price as you pay for pot of tea.
They ordered me the wrong food and very bad service attitude.
Noisy
Excellent food, both the English breakfast and the burgers. Good prices, helpful staff and pleasant atmosphere.
We only asked for 2 teas but along came a pot of tea, we could have had 6 cups out of that and it was only £7 in the tourists centre of the city
The food is not tasty, the sausage is the cheapest, the prices are not for the quality of the food.
Feels like they really didn t care anymore about the food they were serving. Bland, unimaginative and way overpriced. Best thing on the plate were the beans which came out of a can. Seems like it was once good but then they just lost the passion and got lazy. Definitely not worth it for the price. Staff were friendly and location is beautiful though.
Ive been here many times over the years for breakfast but yesterday was the first time post COVID. Its pretty much the same standard of service and atmosphere. We were served surprisingly quickly. What let it down was the sausages which seemed to be the cheap, tasteless, mostly breadcrumbs, variety. Parking: We went on the bus
Only had a drink here but managed to grab an outside table in the shade (hot day) and enjoyed people watching. Good views facing Kings College (and currently a protest camp) Food menu looked good and inside there is a gallery of famous people who have visited.
A nice place, with a normally fine view. Very good food, the portions are big enough to make you feel full. The prices are ok, the staff friendly and very quick. Good we can pay in cash too.
We ate really good ham and wraps with a nice Black Sheeps beer. They are kind and helpful, we recommend them to everyone in the center of Cambridge.
So good the service is quick and there are very good staff
The staff were keen to get us in and sat down, and took our order quickly. But then waited and waited, seeing tables arriving after us all getting their food. We had to ask another server twice for someone to check our food. Eventually, that different server brought the food out, but with a very half-hearted sorry, my colleague forgot to put the order in. I dont blame someone for forgetting. These things happen. But the service afterwards was certainly lacking and kind of professional customer service, There was plenty of staff working, and our original server didnt even come over to apologise to us or even check on us. I dont think Id be back next time I visit Cambridge.
Good place, good food and loads of space inside.
Outstanding.
Only had coffee which was of a high standard. It was early and not too busy so able to sit for a fair time. Last time we had food it was very good.
Delicious breakfast.
Went in today for lunch. Ordered the spinach & Ricotta ravioli. The sauce was watery. I think they had forgotten to drain it before plating it up. Well what it I expect for £14.50
This is definitely not a complaint but our server didnt know what toast is and that was the most interesting part of our dining experience. Service was otherwise good, the food pretty decent as well. It was a bit crowded and noisy when we visited but we were seated immediately.
Very nice attentive staff. Food for four of us was very nice. For our family this was a return visit, and once again, really enjoyed their mousaka.
Located in central Cambridge. Great view of Kings College. Food ok. Lots of indoor and some outdoor seating. Staff are helpful. Clean toilets! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are clearly marked. Includes halloumi fries, vegetarian wraps, a Moroccan chickpeas casserole and spinach ravioli. Dietary restrictions: Low Fodmap vegetarians may enjoy the halloumi wrap if able to tolerate a small amount of bread. There is no onion in the wrap filling and you can request no sweet chilli sauce if in doubt.
Goooood, the appetizers and lamb main are recommended. There was special price for 2 and 3 vourses meal too that was a really good deal. Will come back when I visit Cambridge. Tap water was sweet and refreshing. Service was great. The place is famous and packed so better make an appointment first. Halal
Very nice. Would visit again.
It was okay overall. I felt like the breakfast choices could have been better - the avocado on toast and scrabled eggs were a let down. No flavour, no salt .. and the presentation could do with a bit of inspiration. I would not return to be honest unless improvements were made. Food
Good breakfast but pricy
I was pleasantly surprised to find a place serving reasonable priced food in the centre of the tourist area. The starter I had was great value for money. I would come back for the food, but not for the coffee, which didnt taste great.
Have a morning coffee looking at the wonderful view of Kings College. Whats not to like?
Tasty Turkish food, friendly and prompt service & excellent value for money. Yakut wine was top notch too.
My brother from Diyarbak r, your service and smiling face are wonderful. Excellent service, friendly welcome, delicious tastes, even words are little compared to the service provided.
Try the Turkish Breakfast. A great start to the day.
Excellent food, excellent attention for the staff and the owner. Every tiene I go to Cambridge I go to the Cooper Kettle.
Loved the soup!
Went here for breakfast. Highly recommend
Prompt and friendly service
Friendly service and nice coffee, lovely views
Not really differentiating from college brunches on the weekends... Its okay to enjoy sightseeing at the Kings Chapel while having your breakfast.
Iconic Cambridge restaurant situated opposite Kings College. Delicious turkish and English food.
Nice café with light eats and warm drinks. Has indoor and outdoor seating.
Very tasty full English and my sister enjoyed the vegan breakfasts.
Great coffee experience, thank you.
Lovely place, great staff- will definitely be returning!
Had brunch, but portions not very large.
This Cafe is Famous in Cambridge and beyond it is very popular, the Food and Service is good and it is competitively priced. Tourists visiting Cambridge seem to make this one of their must visit places. But beware! This Cafe has an unusual policy and notices on the tables stating (We Prefer you to Pay in Cash) so be prepared. Other than that, it is well worth a visit.
simple food, like at home. better than in fast food-like places like Cafe Nero, but I lacked creativity and elaboration on the meals. Mine was just oat flakes with yogurt and fruit, and they were not even overnight. My friend ordered eggs with Turkish sausage, though it seemed like usual sausage to me. Good, they added some veggies, some bread and butter. So, nothing special, but within the price, so thats OK. the service was good, the place was calm on Monday morning.
Perfect food and service
My usual haunt upon returning to Cambridge. Great view and atmosphere, not rushing it and availing all sorts of special dishes satisfying special needs re diets and allergies. A little bit pricy but OK, you also pay for the place and at least they dont rush you out like a cash-cow without being asked for the bill. So it is quite relaxed and breakfast all day long.
Not been here for many years but still excellent.
Fabulous location. Heart of the town. Taste of Türkiye. Great dishes ESPECIALLY MUSAKKA
Came here for afternoon tea a few times. Service was swift and staff were friendly. Highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake and the cappuccino was delicious! Edit: came back for lunch. Yogurt kebab was really nice and so was the hot chocolate :)
Lamb kebab was quite ok!
Really nice lunch - I had the chicken kebab from the specials board.
Always outstanding food with fantastic service.
Food was very basic and unfortunately our experience was ruined as they told us only at the end of the meal we had to pay cash, meaning we had to spend an extra 15 minutes going to find a cash point. All seemed a bit dodgy and like they deliberately didn t want you to pay by card.
Beautiful lil place opp Kings college in Cambridge, had a brunch! Good food, excellent customer service and nice vibe! No booking, just walked in.
Lovely setting, great tea and cake. Clean premises and reasonably priced.
Good choice on the menu. Good food. Very friendly staff. Can sit outside. Slightly overpriced and offer student discount but only for Cambridge students
Nice place if you want a view
Nice little place especially for the beautiful location if you are lucky to eat on the sidewalk or in front of the shop window. As far as the service is concerned, I consider it quite pressing... In my opinion, considering that at the cash register the owner creates a certain fear for the employees!!! Good piadina and the typical London scone with cream and jam is very good.
Tasty food, freshly prepared, friendly staff. Handy location, menu fairly short but plenty of options. Lots of nice cakes and pastries. Food
Have had breakfast here a few times. Good food, not necessarily the cheapest. i.e. buffet breakfast at our hotel worked out a little cheaper for a bottomless buffet. Dietary restrictions: Non dairy catered for.
Dropped my knife and they brought me a new one in literally under 3 seconds. Speed was unreal. I wasnt even expecting a new one at all, didnt cross my mind. Cant beat that.
breakfast had a very simple content, also the price was very expensive. The staff was friendly and very interested unfortunately our breakfast was bad.
You can both eat and drink tea
Absolutely delightful as always. Very very nice people. An excellent place for breakfast.
Great location. Nice food and friendly staff.
Wonderful Place with Cambridge university view. Scone was very delicious and fresh.
The staff were great and the food was delicious.
Its located right in the middle of the kings parade, next to the old school and kings college chapel. The biggest advantage of having food here is you can enjoy the location especially kings college and just watch people. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. However outdoor seating is just a small table for 2 people. They do different foods. We tried their chicken wrap which was good, but could have been better by including more salad stuff. Overall its a good place to eat and the service is good.
Nice food, nice restaurant. Only had a wrap this time but others food looked good to
Beautiful breakfast, I had the Turkish breakfast, which I really enjoyed (maybe more so than an English breakfast?) I found the little bit of sausage to go a long way due to the flavour and I really liked having the fresh elements like the creamy cheese and the olives. Will definitely come back but I heard somewhere that it is closing down, please don t let this be true, help out this wonderful business in the heart of Cambridge!
Back after a very long time. Pleasant stop off but menu could have been better!!
I really like it
Delicious breakfast. Maybe fresh strawberry marmelade would even be better :)
Great little place, perfect location, but much more too.
Lovely brunch if smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
Nice location but food mediocre with very small portions. Coffee not great.
When you see on the breakfast menu smashed avocado on toast £8 and under it says add fried egg or scrambled egg +£1 so total £9 you thinking at least you going to get something to have breakfast. How much is cost this. 1egg half avocado and two small slice bread. I am not going to put that picture in here. We got 2 of that, 2 veg breakfast and 4 coffees. Total £78 bill came. I can bet it does not cost more than £8. Extremely expensive when you see what you get.
Special little spot with character and a sweet setting in the middle of the town of Cambridge.
Cozy place.. delicious food.. very friendly service
Very tasty, good food. Excellent service and a lovely welcome from a bustling business. We only had a burger and a wrap but everything was beautifully presented and very good quality. Usually I moan about an enforced service charge but it was well earned.
Food was mediocre. Service a little slow. Coffee was nothing to write home about... Disappointing all round
Ordered flat white and latte thinking to have nice afternoon drinks.we were served Terrible big mugs they looked like in care home, with spoons in them,no saucer, not nice at all. Did not enjoy. Never coming back.
Lovely place ignore the photo of ersin Tatar though
Characteristic teahouse in the center of Cambridge with typical tea and scones
Good pasta , but a bit expensive, perhaps serve with some bread for sauce mopping purposes.service was quick and efficient. Glad to see Fentimans dinks!
Nice, clean and a bit aristocratic looking/atmosphere. Very inviting when you walk by and looking in. Lamb shank very nice and tasty. Lentil soup good. Lamb kebabs to dry. No juice or sauce to compliment the dish. Pistachio Baklava. Well one was good but one was completely empty inside just a hollow tube ? So why only two stars ? First thing you notice after signing down there is a little note on each table informing the costumer the electronic payment system is not working all the time and bla bla bla. We counted our cash and sorry but we did not have enough to cover an evenings dinner. Well. No problem the server notified us. The electronic system WoW was working again. Hurray , On the menu it is written that a 10% service chat is added to all recipes but is voluntary. And was again mentioned when the bill came. This is the first time in all our travels in this beautiful country England that we have encountered this little detail and we think it is a little dirty trick. You feel bad for some reason when you receive the check and already the 10% is added to the total even if it says Opt. ( I assumed that means optional) We were there on a Saturday night just after 8. Most restaurants are busy then. Not this one. I m wondering if those two little discussions may have kept the crowd away ?? Hugs
The quality of the food is average and it is overpriced.
They charged me service charges 7£ just for one coffee and scone for a single person . Way too much . Never going back . That s horrible .
Nice, busy cafe. Turkish breakfast is delicious. I dont think the waffle was freshly prepared. Service was friendly and fast. One of the few cafes open on Sundays.
Great food,perfect location,lovley people.
Great restaurant café in the heart of Cambridge. Beautiful view and fabulous menu choice. The food came quickly. Service was excellent and it was delicious. The price was good. It was clean and very nice atmosphere
Nice cafe with helpful staff, decent food choices, but average coffee seems weak and no options offered for extra shots.
Nice meze, reasonably priced under £10.
Good Food, great service and perfect views of Kings college.
Horrible service, we had two small children, the room was half full, and they didnt let us in. Not recommended for families!!!!
Great location, indifferent service
Ideally located, excellent tea and millionaire slice. Efficient, polite and smiling staff. Other dishes on Menu look lovely too. We ve been here three times in the past few days during our visit to Cambridge. Totally recommend
A good value place for lunch. Lots of choices. I had the chicken wrap which was very tasty.
Very nice
Delicious breakfast
Extremely overpriced for what they offer. Absolute joke. Ordered a portion of baklava (which were 2 small pieces the size of my little pinkie finger), and this cost £6 (£5.90 to be exact). Quality was not good An obvious tourist trap... Complete rip off! Food
Rude staff, small portions and overpriced. Avoid the Turkish coffee which was full of residue and not well boiled
Nice food at a reasonable price scrambled egg and salmon for £12.90 I would have expected two slices of toast. There is an optional service charge of 10% which is optional on their behalf because they decided to charge it without running the decision by me. If given the choice I would have paid it but they need to learn the difference between optional and compulsory .
We were in Cambridge for a conference and were recommended the Copper Kettle for breakfast. We walked straight in and were greeted by a very friendly gentleman. The four of us enjoyed a delicious breakfast (I had the bacon, sausage and egg bap, my husband the Turkish breakfast bap) and it was all absolutely delicious. We loved the view over Kings opposite and left feeling well fed and very satisfied. A charming place with great food and great service.
The service here is excellent and the coffee just as good. Try some of the Turkish snack they are very good. And a fabulous view of Kings College too!
I order a flat white and got a bit of dirty water with froth milk. Perhaps the worst coffee I ve had in years.
Extremely disappointing and poor value for money. I ordered the Turkish breakfast and for £13.50 I received 2 fried eggs and tiny portions of vegetables that I could have cut myself, presented terribly. I knew this place was a bit of a tourist trap but I didn t know it was to this degree. Service was also the total bare minimum and yet they add a 10% surcharge. I do not recommend coming here; much better places in Cambridge that serve better food for less money.
The red lentil soup was so tasty. And to follow, the Moussaka was perfect. Revived me superbly while exploring the Colleges.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Lovely atmosphere. Definitely will return.
Boring, overpriced meals for vegetarians. We had the hummus and falafel wrap and the three cheese salad. Both very bland, little hummus in the wrap, no sensible salad dressing... What a shame! But service was attentive and friendly. Vegetarian options: Few and boring dishes for vegetarians
Visited with my Wife as this was the venue that her Dad used to take her Mum when he was studying at Cambridge back jn the 1940s. Lovely food. Great atmosphere and lovely staff.
Popped in for desserts, not disappointed. Lemon tart, brownie, ice cream, coffee, all were really good and very friendly service as well.
Excellent!!
Great service, halal food, fantastic location
Small portions but expensive.
Have been visiting the C K from over 40 years and it never fails to deliver.
I just had the worst service at this place shame for the price you pay, I won t come back again and definitely don t recommend!
Great breakfast choice, lovely location. From the moment we walked through the door staff were attentive and made us feel welcome. Would recommend.
Good spot for brunch. Lots of seating. The food was great!
The breakfast bap is just right and the coffee delicious
Good view, bad mushrooms View: great (of Kings College). Cappuccino: strong, hot, foamy. I had the veggie breakfast with gluten free toast. Existence of gluten free toast: Thumbs up. But: Mushrooms inedible; tasteless, tepid and out of a tin. Tomato: watery and cold. Scrambled eggs: OK. Baked beans: a lot, in a separate dish, jist the right temperature. Avocado: pre-crushed. The mushrooms and tomato very disappointing for the price. Vegetarian options: I had the veg brekkie but it was not great.
Came for a tea break on the weekend. Great location near Kings college. The place was pretty full so we had to sit at the back - the vibe up front esp by the windows are much nicer. We had scones which were nice and moist enough with clotted cream and jam. Felt the jam was not enough for the scone which came in a good size).
Easy to locate and a fine location for a quick bite.
