Tried few dishes here for dinner. The lamb stewed is good. However the beef/chicken/pork are not very good. Besides, It’s not spicy enough as a Chinese North East style dishes.
I never ever came back to Kung Woo again, I had BBQ buffer here, It was terrible, with no service, the dishes were not fresh and there was a rotten smell, especially since the beef kept for a long time colour changed and the rotten meat. Don't waste money have bad food here.
Conclusion: -authentic "Dong Bei" food (rare in UK) -served in large portions. -cozy environment -friendly staff -fair price It was my first visit to UK, so I'd usually prevent going to Chinese restaurant since I came from Hong Kong. One of my friend suggested this restaurant for dinner and it was great overall. We arrived at the restaurant at about 7pm, it was fairly busy for a small restaurant like Kong Woo. We came in as a group of 10 and the staff welcomed us politely. The environment is not high-class indeed but its really cozy there, not bad for a family-running restaurant. We ordered dishes such as Sauerkraut Fish, Grilled Lamp Chop and Spicy Chicken, they are well cooked and served in large portions. The staff told us the key ingredients were shipped all the way from the hometown of the boss in China which is impressive As I observed, all customers enjoyed their meal, most of the customers were Chinese but there were still a few locals. The chef would not rush so that he can ensure good quality of food. I highly suggest anyone to try out Kong Woo Restaurant.
DON'T COME. YOU WILL REGRET. TOTALLY WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. The price for the hot pot is 25 pounds per person but the base is charged separately, and there's also a service fee. The staff are somewhat rude, making it seem unreasonable. It's not worth it. There's a reason why there are no other guests dining during the weekend evening peak hours.
Best hotpot I’ve had, have not found anything as good in London! The spicy tomato soup works really well in the hotpot. Lovely service as well, I always enjoy coming back. Try to have cash with you, as there is a card service fee.
I loved this little restaurant. The family who run it are so friendly and have a delightful little girl who chatted with us. Three of us had hotpot and it was really good. So much food, meat, seafood and vegetables. We were so stuffed afterward. My only complaint was the highchair could have used a clean. Would visit again.
Very good Korean food, we had 10 people for a meal out and 9 of us had the BBQ pot. This consists of chicken wings and chicken piece 2 types of pork, beef, prawns, squid and fish tofu which comes out raw and you cook on a pan on a hot plate. The meat was amazing, tender and very tasty as were the prawns and the squid. Only downsides are it takes a long time to cook with 4 or 5 of you per pan and you don't get enough vegetables. It's the second time we've been here and we have your more traditional chow mein oriental type meals first time. But everything we had was very good, lots if Asian people eat here which is always a good sign. It has a 4 stat hygiene rating but doesn't look the cleanest, also you will not find a menu online. I give the food 5 stars and restaurant itself 3. The staff were friendly but not great at speaking English, however the food is great and everyone enjoyed the food.
The food was very good indeed. I didn’t know what to order, so the waitress recommended the whole steamed fish, which seemed excellent. The service is low key but friendly.
Very friendly people and great food. We will definitely come again!
Got the hotpot buffet. The meat quality was good
Terrible Chinese food. Its appallingly bad. The attitude of the landlady is extremely bad. They force service fees and irritate customers. Terrible Chinese food. Its appallingly bad. The attitude of the landlady is extremely bad. They force service fees and irritate customers.
Do not order BBQ Buffet, bad service and not very friendly. And never explain for the first visitor
I wish I had the option to rate zero stars. Food was served very slowly, we waited for more than an hour. the owner was very rude and abusive to the guests. This is definitely not what Chinese food should be like. Food
Super bad service We waited for over an hour for the food and the boss even yelled at us To physically attack us after we refused to pay the service charge. Besides even charged us £5 for a small lollipop.
After waiting for almost an hour and a half for the meal, I spent 75 pounds. I was not satisfied with the service but was forced to pay a 10% tip. When he refused to pay, he was viciously verbally attacked by his boss, who forced him to charge a 7.5-pound lollipop in disguise as payment. The service attitude is extremely bad and unbearable! ! ! Friends who come to Cambridge can go to other restaurants with friendly service.
The boss is very enthusiastic and the food is large and delicious. Highly recommended
Just don t come. Decoration was really bad. Service was bad, we ordered almost 2 same stir fired courses (same sauces w/ same side dishes) without any reminder. Plus price are on avg higher than other Chinese restaurants. You can always find a better one on the street.
This idiotic owner doesnt even speak English, I know about Rome and I didnt understand what he was talking about, the food was really good, but the price wasnt worth the amount. Dietary restrictions: Its Chinese, the only regime is the communist one
Very friendly and welcoming owner . Excellent service and good food.Even throw in a little birthday surprise for my wife when I mentioned it s her birthday.
The food was very yummy and the noodles were delicious. This was overall great experience. Definitely coming back here soon . Food
I have to say this is the best Chinese restaurant I ve been in the UK. I am Chinese so I can say the food is absolutely traditional Chinese cuisine that has not been adapted to local taste, and it even somehow reminds me of the memories back in my hometown, dining with friends in a small family-run restaurant. The food is very delicious, and the price is quite decent with such a huge portion. Although it took us a while to wait for food, I think it was because they only had a few people running the restaurant and they were just too busy generally, but the food was definitely worth waiting. The staff is really nice btw. Surely will come again! I already decided what to eat next time I come to Cambridge.
am a regular customer who enjoys the family restaurant - menu items can sometimes be different from original but is always very tasty to eat! will always return for more
The proprietress is from the Northeast, and she ordered a few dishes that were not very Northeastern, and they tasted pretty good and the portions were generous. Next time I want to eat barbecue, it smells super delicious, £30pp
Im very skeptical on trying new food places, but these guys have massive portions, delicious food, and are a family run business, these guys deffo deserve 5 stars. I recommend the beef in black bean sauce hotpan, it bangs.
First of all, I am very disgusted with the behavior of the clerk singing in the store with a microphone and forcibly interacting with all the diners... I just want to have a quiet meal and really dont want to hear someone yelling in the store with a microphone. And this person is also a waiter, which will affect the dining experience. . Then there is the behavior of forcibly charging additional service fees without paying in cash. Although the money is not much, it is really disgusting to be honest. I hope the Chinese restaurants in Cambridge can change this bad habit... I would give one star to restaurants that dont accept credit cards. Although your stir-fried pork is not stir-fried at all, it still has a lot of meat. , just reluctantly give it two stars. I hope that merchants will consider the customers perspective while providing services.
Amazing food and very friendly staff!!
One of the TOP BEST restaurants! Truly recommended!!! Lovely taste, lovely people! Can t wait to visit again! Yumm!
My second visit to Kung Woo. A fabulous meal in a welcoming and friendly family run restaurant. I enjoyed seafood soup with kimchi and seaweed, pork and cabbage dumplings, Jasmine tea and Pear and seacoconut. Freshly prepared and very tasty. A great start to my evening.
Dirty environment, unfriendly service, higher price, not authentic. I cook better than them. Specifically, roast lamb was not roasted but deep fried, extremely dry and hard. Same for spicy chicken. A staff used toilet without closing door, I could literally hear the sound. Waitress touched the rice with fingers. No receipt when I asked and they stared at me as if I was the one to be wrong. You can find other much better Chinese food around the corner. Don t come. I had a bad stomachache after that.
I have to say the environment is really dirty, not comfortable for eating environment. The food could not be counted as Chinese food, for example the roasted lamb is actually deep fried lamb .they also refused to give the receipt to me with really bad attitude. I was quite scared by the face of their boss not recommend you people to go, you deserve better Chinese food around the corner.
Lovely food and a lovely owner. Always made me feel super welcome, every time! I m moving back to London from Cambridge and I ll miss this place very much!
Really love our bbq experience tonight at Kung Woo. I wish there were more dishes though like kimchi and lettuce but other than that, I would really recommend! Made me and my partners night!
Very authentic sichuan food. Reasonable price with big portion. Awesome!
We were on Christmas day with my daughter, we ordered a hot pot, soup without flavor, the food for the hot pot was frozen, we ordered a salad, a cuddle and a sake, we paid 71 paund +7.50 for the service that was bad, bad experience I will never go back
One of the best and authentic Chinese restaurants in Cambridge. It is run by a family. The owner is also the chef. Sometimes you could ask for special items depending on what they have in the kitchen.
Great food, I love them all!
I went with my brother today for the 1st time. The food was delicious and the service was also very good. We ordered 4 dishes, they were beautifully cooked and presented. The boss comes from a seaside city, I can tell that he pays a lot attention to the freshness and quality of the food. You cannot find another restaurant in Cambridge using Sushi Rice in cooking. This is the only one restaurant. The portion is very big, very value for money dining. Highly recommended. Will bring friends back again.
Delicious hot pot
Great food and atmosphere
Decent food, but no receipts!
Pretty good all you can eat BBQ. Good service and food!
Superb
Come on!
I love this restaurant. All of the staffs were kind, especially the owner and the waiter. I ordered less salty hot pot with a friend. Ingredients were fresh and sliced to eat them easier. I have convinced the Hotpot I ate here was the best ever I ve eaten
The restaurant owner has a very bad attitude and seems to be indifferent.
During the entire meal, I could hear children screaming and crying. The boss s children and the guests children came and went, one after another, echoing each other. A bowl of rice weighs 3 pounds, and a group of people ate 33 pounds of rice? It s incomprehensible that I haven t had a low score in the UK for so long.
People with a Chinese stomach should not come here...this is not Chinese-style Northeastern food. . . Sure enough, it is worthy of the British review. How could it really be so dark? This is shriveled sausage, which is made by coating the sausage with starch and frying it. This is the first time Ive seen this done. Really convinced. The sizzling beef is actually sweet. One dish per person, one meal per person, about 15 per person.
Recommended. Delicious food and friendly staff. Ill be back again very soon!
Been there for St Valentines Day. Such a great meal with the brisket beef noodle soup and fried squid! The staff was really attentive to our needs and they gave us a complimentary red rose and slice of cake. Will definitely come back and recommend it.
Excellent and very popular amongst Chinese students. Good portions also.
Despite the ground floor being empty, my group of four were seated in the back corner of the (equally empty) upper floor, where we were pretty much forgotten about. Orders for drinks and food werent taken for a very long time, with an equally long wait for our food. Our starters came out cold. Im not sure what happened...
The worst chinese restaurant in Cambridge. Food and service are bad. Please avoid this restaurant.
Pleasant and friendly, foods are tasty and we are really enjoyed them. we made a memorable evening there.
Rude staff especially the fat woman. Food is not delicious at all compared with the price.
Many interesting dishes. The starters are large enough to pass for main courses.
Tasty food accompanied with friendly service.
We had a great time at Kung Woo. We ordered the BBQ set - at first it didnt look like a lot but we were stuffed. All the meat came well marinated. The pork dumplings were also delicious!
Excellent food, but be aware that its a tiny place with only 4 tables seating 4 to 6 each at a stretch.
Good Korean food
Sichuan cuisine is very authentic! The rice is super delicious!
Pretty good overall, good service. The spicy seafood soup was very good, though the twice cooked pork was a bit heavy on the hot chilli oil and onions (not really a knock as its sometimes cooked in that style). I cant quite figure out if its a Korean or Chinese restaurant (has ramen and rice dishes), I think its a fusion.
I believe this place may have something to do with my card getting cloned. Very peculiar experience told I can only pay for my meal by cash then later told you can pay by card. I am sorry but I had a funny gut feeling about this place the moment I went in.
Such a nice dinner! The food was amazing and the staff very polite. Well definitely go back!
Had a great meal here, we asked for the Korean Barbeque style dish for 3 people (We were 2 Adults and 2 kids) and we still couldnt quite finish it all, they then offered to bring us more. Very friendly staff. The battered fried squid and the other small sides we ordered were good too.
