52-42 Regent St, Cambridge CB2 1AD, United Kingdom
Homely British classics, with some characterful reinterpretations, by a talented chef with serious culinary heritage.
The venue is grand and at the heart of the Cambridge city centre so does appear to offer a good footfall. The atmosphere felt chaotic and not enough waiting staff but managers who just walk around and do not much. The waiting staff got orders missing and/wrong and there was a long delay in getting the bread ordered when the break was delivered cold. The food was underwhelming - meat was thoroughly dry and filling of the pie very watery. Side dishes were cold and flavourless. It was quite a disappointment overall. For the price and what it is, I’d not choose to book again.
We enjoyed afternoon tea when we stayed in Cambridge. The serving platter was filled with delightful sweets and savories. Very relaxing and great service!
Went here for a nice Saturday lunch but was poorly disappointed on the food and the high bill! My partner and I had a schnitzel that was no bigger than a burger patty and the sauce with it had star anise! Worst combination! It was awful tasting. Didn’t even come with fries, they were £6 extra! Such a rip off. You can see from the bill we were charged £7 for still water!! Was it made and bottled by the gods? This place use to be nice but the food quality and quantity has gone way down and the prices gone way up. I won’t be bringing clients here again!
We just randomly saw the building, and decided to have dinner at the restaurant, because the building looks beautiful from the outside. Amazingly, the foods were so delicious. Highly recommend to taste steaks, peach tart, and basque cheesecake at here. Bilal was the waiter gave us service, he’s nice, friendly, gave us recommendation for cocktail. 10/10 for service.
Afternoon tea was delightful. It gets slightly hot in the library, but the atmosphere is still nice and quiet. All of the food was absolutely delicious, except the salmon taco.
Very nice; nice location and lovely old building on the corner of Parker’s Piece green. Visited for a team lunch, and we all opted for the Afternoon Tea - which you need to pre-book. Staff were super nice and welcoming. Quality of the food was excellent, and you can have more if you want. It was a lovely relaxed yet special environment. Our server was attentive and did a great job. During our visit there was a harpist playing a lovely range of music. Not the cheapest option - but worth it. I’ll definitely go back.
Exceptional Tee Time Experience at Parker Tavern's Cambridge! I recently enjoyed a fantastic tee time at Parker Tavern's in Cambridge, and it was absolutely perfect! ⛳🏌️♂️ The course is beautifully maintained, with lush fairways and challenging greens that make for an exciting round of golf. 🌳🏞️ Every hole offers a unique challenge, and the scenic views add to the overall enjoyment. 🌅🌿 The staff at Parker Tavern's were incredibly welcoming and helpful, ensuring that our tee time ran smoothly from start to finish. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellent service really stood out. 🌟👍 After our game, we headed to the clubhouse for a meal, and the food was outstanding. The menu features a great selection of dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. 🍔🍤 The atmosphere in the clubhouse is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to relax after a round of golf. 🏠🍻 For anyone looking to enjoy a top-notch golfing experience in Cambridge, Parker Tavern's is the place to be. The combination of a well-maintained course, friendly staff, and excellent dining options makes it a standout choice. ⛳🌟 Highly recommend for an unforgettable day of golf! 🏌️♀️🍽️
Came for a lovely lunch for my birthday. Service is impeccable and food delicious. The room is bright and buzzy, so the atmosphere was great. You could chat comfortably without it feeling too loud with everyone doing so. And all the staff said happy birthday as I left! Will return!
We went for a vegetarian Festive cream tea today and it was lovely. Delicious food, nice staff and lovely relaxed setting. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options requested in advance
Ordered a cocktail and a meal, the meal arrived first so I tried to cancel the cocktail. I was told that I couldnt cancel it as it had already been made (and therefore had presumably been sat on a bar somewhere for 20 minutes...). Was charged full amount for the meal, drink - and service. Poor.
Beautiful space, with a good atmosphere. I attended in a small group of important work colleagues and clients for an evening meal. The food, while looking good was very average. Sparce ingredients, lukewarm and ultimately nothing was particulary stand-out (the terrine was actually a little unpleasant) There were hardly any staff around, so it was frustrating to wave one down to order more drinks, etc. Finally, my dessert took over half an hour to arrive after everyone elses, and it took flagging a waiter 3 times to finally get one. In fact some of my colleagues had left before it finally appeared. For the price and the look of the place, I had expected superior service, but it ended up being like any other mediocre evening restaurant in the city, which was sad.
Fantastic food and great Jazz Music with Tim Boniface & team. We absolutely love having date nights and simply a relaxing evening of Jazz and lovely drinks.
Typical English, including food. Pastrocchi with 43 ingredients in a single dish, but all typical. Poor beer.
I sat at the bar, and ordered a simple spirit and mixer. 8 minutes later, the bartender came back and said he d forgotten what I ordered. I said it again, and he said it d be another 12 minute wait. I left. I don t know who has that much spare time to wait for a simple drink - especially with so many choices available on Regent Street - but it s not me.
So disappointing. A lovely setting. Should have been a relaxed drink in a tranquil environment. Instead it was more of an internet cafe. One woman ruined the ambiance as she conducted a web conference for probably an hour, speaking loudly the whole time. Considering the cost of the drinks in this bar I would have thought the bar staff would have asked the woman to keep her voice down. How standards have dropped since the pandemic. Plus, tables weren t cleared in a timely fashion. So save your money and drink in one of the many other bars in the city. A real shame.
Rude service, came for afternoon tea and was given a sunken box with sofas. Asked about changing to a proper table and we were dismissed. Pretty poor!
Underwhelming festive afternoon tea. Excellent scones, but so noisy you cant hear who youre with. Cakes look great but are much too sweet, vegetarian sandwiches were stale. Staff were polite but service was incredibly slow - 40mins for a cup of tea?
Last Saturday, I visited Parker s Tavern in Cambridge with a group of eight to celebrate my sister-in-law s graduation. Sadly, what should have been a delightful lunch turned into a frustrating and poorly managed experience. While the food was of good quality, the service was utterly unacceptable. We waited over an hour and a half for our meals, and one guest received their dish 30 minutes after everyone else. The staff seemed completely disorganised, with no one taking charge or ensuring the experience ran smoothly. To make matters worse, we ordered beer at the start, which came in cans, and later discovered they had run out of beer entirely only being informed when we inquired about our second round. The lack of communication and professionalism was shocking. Despite the quality of the food, the service was chaotic and ruined the experience. I cannot recommend this place unless you are extremely patient or willing to overlook appalling service.
I was really looking forward to staying at the University Arms because it looks like a lovely hotel, however there were several significant negatives during our stay: 1. On arrival to our (£440 per night) room - after a long drive and desperate for a sit-down and cup of tea - the milk in the room fridge was off. Not a big issue you might say, but it took three calls to reception and a 30+ minute wait to get some fresh milk. When that arrived, it still tasted funny because it was some sort of UHT long-life stuff. Why? £400+ per night and you cant supply fresh milk to go with the two teabags you supplied? In the end I went down the seven sets of stairs to the kitchen and got some fresh milk from there (took the stairs because there was a big queue for the only two lifts in the hotel. 2. The way the breakfast room was laid out was weird... there was a bottle-neck between the bar (where the cereals and breads were) and the main dining area which meant that residents whod ventured into the bar to get breads, then got stuck getting back into the dining area because there was a queue of people waiting to be seated for the first time. Lots of frustrated guests there... 3. The dining room was full, and yet there was only one coffee machine - making one slow cup at a time - for the whole hotel. Those who wanted tea needed to use a hot water flask that ran out every 10 mins or so and took another ten mins to be replaced. Lots of frustrated guests in the tea/coffee queue waiting whilst their breakfast went cold. No one seemed to be in charge. No one was keeping an eye on the hot water flask, so every time it ran out, a guest had to flag down a member of staff and ask them to get it refilled. The breakfast itself was very average, much like a school canteen, and Ive experienced much better in a £50 per night hotel chain. Really poor. Add all the above to the fact that theres no parking at the hotel - something I did know about before our visit - and its a definite thumbs down from us, we wont be visiting this hotel again. Parking: There isnt any.
The inside looked lovely so we decided to have dinner here while visiting. (3 of us are from America, 2 from Essex UK). The food was not nice at all, and the service was completely horrible. No one came to greet us for over 15 minutes. When our waiter finally came over, he didn t greet us, give us his name, apologize, or acknowledge that we had been waiting. He just asked if we were ready to order. He never asked us how our food was or if we needed anything once our food was served. It was awful. The haddock and chips were cold and had no flavor, and you get no sides with main courses. You have to pay an additional amount for sides on top of expensive mains. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
If you want an over priced drink served by rude staff, this is your place to go.
Overall our experience was really good, we did think the food was expensive particularly given the portion sizes. For example 2 very small scallops for £18 which were okay nothing more. That said other dishes were better and the service was excellent!
Great ambience. Very classy. Would have given it 5 stars. However on two occasions the tea cups have smelt of very bad breath, meaning they had not been washed properly. This was a poor reflection on duch an esteemed place. Please check, as otherwise everything is perfect whenever Im there. Cant say for drinking glasses and cutlery, as I havent been brave to smell the latter, and always use straw for cold drinks.
Perfect for breakfast and mid night bar.
Excellent birthday celebration lunch. Excellent service Kiki. Thank you fir making it so special.
We enjoyed a lovely evening at Parkers. We had cocktails in the library then moved in to the restaurant. We had the rib-eye steak and the Parkers claret ; both delicious. Rahel was an excellent host and we enjoyed talking with her. Thoroughly recommended.
Absolutely stunning ambiance. The service was 1st class. And the food was outstanding. Dietary restrictions: Very knowledgeable with any dietary requests.
Lovely afternoon tea, great value for money! Would really recommend!
Very expensive - one bottle of cider was 9 pounds. Lavish interior, but never truly felt comfortable
Service was not as attentive as previous years, Had afternoon tea (October 24). They forgot a few things and had to chase to ask. They forgot the milk after I asked and then forgot the jam and cream for the scones, we gave up. We left without any contact from staff.
Very average lunch food -bland and lacked presentation. For example the lamb sausage starter was just the mini sausages of which there were too many without a garnish to accompany them. Salad main course bland & therefore felt overpriced./ not good value for money. Setting is lovely with a good view over the park
Lovely afternoon tea or drinks. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Always have an after shop GnT here. Cant fault it.
Great place for a birthday meal, the sorbet with a candle was a thoughtful touch - thank you!
Popped in after work to listen to some Jazz. Had a very enjoyable evening chatting with people dropping their children off to University from the UK and US. It was very busy so the service wasnt as quick as normal on this occasion but had a good time
I shared a steak and ale pie with my father at Parkers Tavern tonight. It was delightful, but the most notable part of our dinner was the service we received from Ilyas. He was friendly, efficient, and communicated well. We were very impressed with the level of service he provided.
Breakfast excellent. Wide variety, counteracts bad British food stereotype.
Love the bar here, great cocktails.will be back
Arrogant rude bar staff. Lovely bar snacks and cocktails when we eventually received them
Would rate zero stars if I could Booked afternoon tea for 5 people for a birthday treat; been three times before and never had a problem here but would never go back. Firstly, food arrived before the drinks which is a bad start. No oat milk given when asked. Asked for 2 pescatarian afternoon teas and were not given any salmon sandwiches, so had to ask for these to be provided; no jam or cream for scones, had to ask again. The WOSRT PART is we asked for extra sandwiches and were NOT told that this would be £10 per plate! RIDICULOUS. £10 for three measly sandwiches and a small quiche. I have NEVER been for an afternoon tea where extra sandwiches are not complimentary - no where on the menu or online does it say this is extra. Complained to the rude manager as we paid the bill who was unprofessional and argumentative in front of the rest of the restaurant, and reluctantly removed the extra charge for the sandwiches. Would never come back after today s experience - spend your money elsewhere if you want a nice afternoon tea
Do not go here by any circumstance!! We had a table of over 8 and the kitchen was incapable of taking our order as it come so they had to take a pre order which meant all our food was served cold, was halfway through the main before the drink arrived. Absolutely dull atmosphere and call themselves a good restaurant which is a joke in itself. The staff was nice but the restaurant itself was diabolical. Also charged us 10£ each, including a new born baby, for a cake we brung on ourselves for storage , absolute joke. If you want to pay premium prices for cold, sub-par food with no care or passion put into the dishes then this is the place for you. If you want a better meal, go McDonalds.
I don t understand why everyone s crying. This was one of the best dining experiences I ve had. Super friendly service, great booze, great food, lovely vibe, toilets smell incredible, and a delightful book being read in the background. Our drinks could have come out and plates cleared faster but we had such a good time, it didn t matter. Thanks gang, we ll be back soon
Wonderful lunch. Really enjoyed our afternoon there. Great food and lovely staff.
The most disappointing afternoon tea imaginable. You can achieve the same effect by buying some teabags and prepackaged sandwiches from Tesco, and slicing the sandwiches into finger shapes, and it wont cost more than 100 quid. If you want a nice high tea, go to Fitzbillies. They actually bake things.
Amazing food, friendly yet professional service and wonderful environment. Not stupidly expensive either. Felt like a great find.
Yesterday we had a lovely holiday with our friends at afternoon tea. Great atmosphere and service. There were delicious appetisers, sandwiches and cakes. I enjoyed it so much that I have already booked a table for next week.
We walked in just for simple drinks. And then we found out the best of the best desserts.
Experience is one thing. Find what is in picture around this Pub
The atmosphere is good and the food is unique but on the high side. I heard that the playground outside the window was the first place in the world to hold a football match.
Despite confirming my reservation in the restaurant two days before the venue cancelled it to make room for a party of 60 people. Not classy. A party of that size should have been accommodated in a function room.
Overpriced food
Came here for lunch and overall, we wouldnt come again. Our waiter has a language barrier and couldnt understand us. Apart from the pie which comes with mash, the portions were small and expensive. There were no check backs about the food even by the more experienced waiters. When we left, we saw lots of people having afternoon tea so perhaps that is better than their normal food menu.
Always lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Filter coffee is very nice too.
Really bad experience today for afternoon tea. Appalling service from the servers. Had to ask 4 times for cream and Jam for the scones to be brought. Asked 3 times for additional milk for the tea and 3 times for additional hot water. Tea didnt arrive until after the food arrived. Terrible terrible service- it spoiled what was supposed to be a special occasion. Food was similarly disappointing- scones were hard and not risen. Sandwiches were bland and tasteless. Do not waste your money here.
We went to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and we really liked it. Food from starters to desserts was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was posh, and the service was lovely. We highly recommend it. Thanks!
Beautiful place, delicious foods, friendly and helpful staff.
One of the few sophisticated bars in Cambridge that are open late! Great cocktails (Pisco Sour, Espresso Martini), good selection of wines. I love the ambience and the decor, high ceilings and views of Parker s Piece. Great place for dates.
I used to love this place. But today, on a hot day where all I wanted was a nice tasty bowl of healthy salad, there was literally nothing to choose from. A bowl of mixed green salad sold as a side dish for £6 was literally a handful of baby salad leaves from a bookers bag of salad. Absolutely no imagination, taste, thought went into that. No cucumber, no beans, lentils . Tomatoes nothing. Literally a dry bowl of leaves! Never been so disappointed in a place that I ve come to for years because it was (historically) known for quality and imagination. Nope. Not this time. And even the cocktails were uninspiring. On top of a wholly boring menu, any variety of healthy food to appease the summer heat was unavailable. Topped off by children given two totally different sized portions of fish and chips -? Off of the adult menus no less . This was a thoroughly disappointing experience today.
Easter lunch, lamb poor, raw and tough, beef was nice , service not bad could of been better , server didnt bring cauliflower cheese to table when asked she said she didnt know if its available tho its on the menu. Service charge should NOT be added to the bill should be left to diners choice !!! Surroundings were nice, just a shame the food wasnt up to standard . Wheelchair accessibility: Good
Great menu Beer battered pollock and chips Seabass crushed potatoes (very salty) Serlion and chips Service was good
Very expensive for drinks
Fantastic, just what you expect from a place like Parkers tavern. We were there for my birthday with 3 kids, the staff were very attentive to our needs and tended us always with a smile. The food was just delicious. the Venison and wild berries is a must. It is a place worth eating Kid-friendliness: Very friendly with the kids, had coloring books and kids menu
Dull restaurant experience, food lacking in presentation and service lacking in charm. Have had better experiences in the local pubs dotted around. Probably wouldn t return.

Disputed charges. Manager completely unapologetic and disinterested. Many great restaurants in the city- this is not one of them.
Very good food. The bad thing is the attention, you have to order at the bar and pay in advance. Besides, the chicha that served me was quite stale.
Very nice lunch and service
Best Sunday Roast in Cambridge... maybe ever. Incredibly high-quality food and amazing staff. You pay a little more (but not by much!) than a standard pub for top quality and you are well-fed. The staff are extremely polite and professional and you feel well looked after. Could go here every Sunday.
Good food, excellent services Surprised by the birthday desserts prepared for us with our names written on it. Thank you very much Food
First time eating here during our stay at the University Arms, we started the evening enjoying a cocktail which the waiter recommended in the library lounge area. Our mean was 5*. I had a steak which was a decent size and beautifully cooked. The restaurant itself is classic modern decor and had a good buzz about it.
Amazing food, amazing service and an overall amazing evening! Would highly recommend
The building and atmosphere are fantastic. Its such a shame they are let down by such poor management. I can accept you dont take reservations for the bar, but when someone calls ahead and lets you know an approximate table size you can reliably inform them of how busy you expect to be. Today for example, I called several hours ahead and you gave me NO information other than to turn up and hope. Upon arrival, you explain the library is closed because you have over 100 guests staying over! Something you neglected to tell me over the phone, denying me the opportunity to book elsewhere. Fyi, I can see into the library and its completely empty. The management is completely ad hoc, so I would highly advise against betting your dressed up evening in such an amateur location. Pathetic
Very unprofessional staff. pretending to be polite but in fact very rude. make me wasting 2 hours waiting for nothing. seriously not recommended
My 3rd visit to PT and my 3rd bad experience. I asked for my bill after a short visit and was told it was £17.20 including service charge. That was fine so I checked the amount on the machine and went to pay. The person then moved the machine away from me for just 2-3 seconds and looked at the receipt. I assumed this was to check the amount, I then moved my phone towards the device to pay as normal and the transaction successfully went through. Turning my phone over to check the amount debited was correct I then realised I had been charged £18.00. I questioned the person about this and wait for it .I was told Oh I just rounded it up I asked why and they said I just did it so my advice is either don t go to this noisy and poorly serviced bar or CAREFULLY check your bill. What next they round up an £180 meal to £200???After trying to get the small refund back (as a matter of principle) the restaurant then went into a melt down as nobody knew how to do a refund, so we gave up and left. Once again the poor service let this establishment down. On previous visits other slightly more major incidents happened where the manager had to get involved, but Parkers has now had its 3 strikes from us, and they are now officially out. I will also make sure I NEVER recommend this business to anyone.
It has a great atmosphere. The meals are quite delicious and satisfying. You should definitely try its cocktails.
Ive been in this restaurant several times because I liked the food and atmosphere. However the last time I also went to the SPA for a massage, with a friend. We both agreed it was dull and we wouldnt go back, but then we decided to go for what it became a dangerous lunch in which I thought I broke a tooth. We ordered the crab for starter, shame that I didnt know mine had a big piece of hard shell, and when unknowingly I crunched on it, I felt immediate pain and worried my tooth was cracked. I reported the situation immediately to the staff, including the Manager and they took the shell away as they were going to investigate the incident. They also asked my details but Ive never heard from them since (thei happened in October). They removed £10 from the bill (yeah, they still charged me for it, despite what happened) and then I had to pay £59 to go to the dentist because of that incident. I wont go back after this as I have been really disappointed by their poor service as well as the food. Update: since posting this review Ive been contacted by the new Manager who very kindly listened to my concerns and resolved the situation. I will be happy to go again to the restaurant (not the SPA) in the future as he showed excellent management skills.
Relaxed, gorgeous interior, fantastic staff, great food. We really enjoyed our time here and recommend it.
Had little time in the area but a big appetite. They whipped us up four delicious tacos in minutes! Appreciated. Bit too fancy for us tho.. cost us £20 for 4 flimsy tacos haha. Not their fault. I shouldn t have asked my girlfriend to pick where we d eat
Absolutely beautiful venue. Food was ok, a bit rich and a tad too salty for my liking. Service was alright, not what I wouldve expected from a place like this.
Ive been to Parkers Tavern a few times and I think the atmosphere is great, especially when sitting close to the windows overlooking Parkers Piece. The food is great, the menu varies seasonally and it is always very interesting and tasty. The staff are really nice, and one time they even brought me an extra slice of cake and candles because they heard it was my birthday. We recently went with our 3 months old baby and there was space on the window seat to place him in his car seat and there are also spacious changing facilities. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant.
4.5 stars. I loved my steak, it was really well seasoned; the chips and tartare sauce were also really good. However, my friend who ordered the lamb was fairly unhappy with the size of the portion, although also good in taste. The friend who ordered the risotto was fairly happy with it, although it was a starter. All in all, if you are hungry, go for a steak!
Ridiculous that you can t have bar food in the restaurant. Same kitchen clearly the 2 meter walk is too much for the staff
The place is awesome. The staff should be better trained. Lukewarm hot chocolate, extremely slow service, expresso served in a big cup which makes it to get cold quickly. Forgot to bring spoons You really pay for the building and the decoration.
High end British and European cuisine. Impressive wine selection, beautiful interior, unique coctails. Perfect for a classy drinks or a night out.
The restaurant was almost empty and we had a reservation from weeks ago but they take us on a small table next to column. We have prepaid with spa combined package but at the end they bring the check to pay, it took some time of them to figure out.
Traditional British food served in a lovely room with lots of light, big windows, good decor and ambiance. The duck is good. The bolognese has a lot of meat fat in it I don t recommend it.
Great service, superb polite reception.
My fav place in town. elevated traditional cuisine and an extensive spirit selection-- a cozy and elegant spot to get you through the bleak mid-winter. Byron also makes an exceptional flat-white.
We had 6 days getaway at the University Arms Hotel for my birthday last week and we had a wonderful experienced. It was a great place, location was brilliant as it is in the centre of the town so easy to get back to the hotel if you had enough walking around. The staffs was professional, friendly and the service was amazing especially Dorota from the house keeping I couldnt thank her enough for her helped when we phoned house keeping close to midnight to change our bed sheets because my daughter was sick and wasnt feeling. Also before that we had a lovely chat during turndown and it was sweet of her to gave my daughter some cookies too. It was a nice feeling to look forward for our breakfast at the Parkers Tavern not just because of the food but to see these incredible ladies Mary and Vasilica who provided us fantastic service every morning and made us smile. My daughter love chatting with them, they were such excellent at their job. I would like to thank you guys for making my birthday week unforgettable. Definitely staying in your hotel again next time we visit Cambrige.
Really child-size portions and overall not so tasty food for far above average prices. You pay for the building.
Absolutely very good environment in the restaurant, very friendly staff. Though the Squash Wellington is not the best option to eat.
We can say that we had an overall nice lunch. Starters: Hake croquettes with mint chutney and sweet chilli sauce were delicious! The smoked salmon was a bit disappointing since we were expecting a piece of smoked fish. Main course, sirloin steak, cooked to our liking, really enjoyed it. Pudding:tarte tatin. Unfortunately the pastry was burnt :(. Wine for the main course was served a bit too early, even before the starter. We would have preferred it at the same time as the main course, more considering that we were having other drinks and the table wasnt big enough.
Really lovely dining experience. Attentive staff. Excellent food. Nice ambience.
The service really let our experience down. Inexperienced staff, lack of awareness and communications, lunch was served cold as it was as left on the side while they relaid the table after starters, drinks had to be chased every time, fries undercooked. Not what we expected for the prices and feel of the venue.
I did like this place, the food did not match the price band. Saying this, the mushroom risotto was absolutely amazing. The staff are fantastic and the beers are nice. There are other restaurants in Cambridge equal if not better quality for less price.
As a parent, time is precious. This is one of only a couple places in Cambridge worth going out for. The food is absolutely delicious, the service top notch, the cocktails superb, great atmosphere, no surprises, always a good time. Much more than can be said about every other restaurant out there. Thank you!
Casual chic atmosphere for this restaurant (at the University Arms Hotel). Refined cocktails. Very good starters (beef carpaccio with truffle, mushroom cappuccino), hearty and tasty dishes (rib of beef to share, sole), no more room for dessert unfortunately... Very attentive staff. Have a nice evening. A little noisy all the same.
We had a very pleasant evening in Parkers Tavern listening to the jazz music as we sipped our drinks. The atmosphere is great and the service was excellent from the attentive waiters. Jazz is on from 7.30 every Friday. The bar snacks were a bit uninspiring so we only had the honey nuts!
On 24th Feb, Me and my friends went for jazz night as we have been hearing about it for a long time and was such a nice atmosphere and had a lovely predrinks anniversary celebration here. Even tho it was a busy night, we had a lovely welcoming from the reception to mention Daniela who gave us a perfect spot for the jazz and always smiling, making the experience better than expected. Overall amazing cocktails and ambience, worth the price Definitely will be back
Lovely atmosphere Attentive service Kind workers Beautifully crafted drinks!
Wonderful cocktails as always. The house specials are tasty but their classics are also top notch. Its one of the only places I know of that has Hibiki 17 available so if you like Japanese whiskey and have money to spare, dont miss out.
Slow bar service Asked for condiments, never arrived. Food
afternoon tea not great because tea cold when finally arrived had to ask for milk and sugar so not a great experience. Food
Vegetarian options: The cocktails and decor was lovely. Very limited vegetarian options. We were a whole family of veggies and of the 3 things we ordered only 1 was nice (the truffle risotto) the Waldorf salad was inedible it was quite expensive for what we got. It was quite a disappointing Mother s Day meal which we hoped would be a treat
Amazing place to work during the day, quiet and comfortable, good drinks and snacks, beautiful bar and super nice personnel
Nice cocktails but so slow
Absolutely lovely atmosphere, beautiful decour, great service and delicious food and cocktails. I hear their menu is changing on 7th April (tomorrow) so will definitely be back to try it!
Must-go spot in Cambridge. Very welcoming and relaxed ambience. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Had a few lovely cocktails to celebrate my parents birthday. Will 100% be returning!
Beautiful setting, strikes a happy balance between opulent yet and relaxed. Brilliant, original cocktail menu. Food, whilst good, possibly a bit more style than substance. Beef carpaccio overpowered by pesto. Pear and stilton salad was delicious though. Enthusiastic service. Definitely worth a visit overall!
Food good. Service slow but friendly.
The food was delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere is very friendly The only let down was that I was served cold veg with my Sunday roast. Food
Get the Duke of Cambridge tart
Beautiful place. Wonderful atmosphere, the jazz trio were excellent, cocktails were amazing and the service was great. One of my favourite places to visit. Food : 5/5
the food is bad
Great afternoon tea!
The chairs/tables are a little uncomfortable, OK for sitting back with a drink, but to eat the tables have pillars and a high base so its awkward with your feet. Its a bit pricey, but on balance as the food is excellent, I would consider it good value. Service was good and although this venue was recently completely rebuilt (literally) from the ground up, the decor is very authentically old.
Amazing food! We had a great time. Waitress was very attentive, excellent dining experience with a varied menu and wonderful flavors. No brainer if youre staying at the hotel.
Parking: Tienes que hacerlo en la calle Food
Really nice bar, friendly staff with more unusual beer offering and excellent views.
Lovely afternoon tea. The staff were friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The surroundings are stunning, clean and with a beautiful scent throughout. The afternoon tea was delicious and plenty of it. I will definitely return.
What a great evening, my husband took me here for my birthday. The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere. Our waiter Dante was exceptional. We will definitely be going again.
On a busy hot summers day this is a brilliant place to get a taste of calm and a long cool drink. The smartly dressed bar staff can make any drink you have ever heard of and many that you have never heard of. Its not cheap as I discovered, a mandatory service charge is included. Free bar snacks was a nice touch.
Amazing place! We had the afternoon tea which was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and also generous with bringing extra sandwiches etc. The setting was beautiful. Highly recommend :-)
wonderful atmospheric bar
Booked afternoon tea and was denied upon arrival because of a booking system issue . Then took 45 minutes just to get coffee and tea. The tea was wrong and had to be sent back. Was completely ignored. Really wanted to like this place but just can t.
A perfect summer afternoon tea for a special occasion.
The worst afternoon tea we have ever had. After being seated we ordered two Pimm s as it was a lovely summer s day. It took over 30 minutes for these to arrive after chasing them up twice (they were not busy at all). When the afternoon tea arrived, the chicken sandwich was just sliced packet chicken with no taste, some of the sandwiches still has crusts on and the bread wasn t particularly fresh. The cream for the scones was not clotted. It was whipped as you can tell from the consistency - clotted is thick to spread, this was so unbelievably thin. We were also disappointed in the cakes as all tasteless when you removed the topping & to top it all off, the tea was just tea bags as opposed to loose leaf and again had to chase up for milk. It was unbelievably hot in the restaurant as no a/c. Please avoid if you want a traditional English afternoon tea.
Food was good quality, if a little overpriced but the service was poor. We saw our waiter (eventually) to take the order, and then to serve the food and that was it. Ended up chasing for the bill. Im afraid I wouldnt return. If places want to charge premium prices, they need to offer premium service.
Cocktails, service and atmosphere are really great. Food lets it down a bit considering the price. Food ok but no wow factor when it is supposed to be high end. Also Ice cream sundae is not an ice cream sundae, I did not enjoy it at all & not what I was expecting. Cambridge burnt cream delicious but again odd presentation, did not look appetising. Vegetarian options: Quite a few vegetarian and fish options
I took my friends for afternoon tea here mainly for the location and decor. It mostly met my expectations with nice food (not wow-level but seems trustworthy for future visits), decent tea selection, and friendly service. Sweet potato avocado sandwich is an interesting combination. Surprisingly savory, with a hint of curry, and beautifully smooth. Love the smoky salmon mousse and the cheese and onion quiche, which isn t solid like egg quiche and is so creamy. The freshly baked scones are lovely. Warm, crusty on the outside, and moist inside. They are more eggy, bread-like, denser than my other favorite ones, but tastes good too. Fruit scones are slightly smaller. A nice balanced hint of cinnamon and not too sweet (only two or three pieces of raisins on the top but good enough for me). The sweet deck a balance between aesthetics and taste. Duke of Cambridge tart is savory-sweet and quite good. The lemon drizzle cake is quite pleasant. Vegan scone tastes a little like burnt coconut/sesame/milk powder. Not bad but we were intrigued. Lapsang Souchong is really smoky. Masala Chai is delicately spiced. Rooibos Orange breakfast is very fruity. Bottomless tea is a nice plus, as the sandwiches and desserts are a little less tempting to be re-ordered. Service is warm and friendly. The decor is beautiful, but somehow the smooth jazz-ish background music doesn t fit the ambience. Some classier jazz or classic music would work better. Overall it s a 4.4 for me, worth the price and I d recommend it if you have to have one in Cambridge.
Far too expensive.
Beautiful space. The atmosphere is elegant. The food is bland, but high tea is a very English experience. Our server was very kind, helpful and informative.
Split here between three or four stars. Great venue, comfortable and stylish. Excellent cocktails. Competent food though not massively interesting, and overpriced for what is effectively a gastropub menu. Some.of the sides arrived after the mains had mostly already eaten. Service friendly but slow. The Parkers red wine was rough and poor value.
Really hard working service - but does not in anyway represent value for money. Food average. Wine list grossly overpriced and without showing vintages. Not worth it considering the wealth of options available in the city. Brasserie food at best. Overpriced for what it is.
Excellent service , but very expensive poor quality food Very noisy. Food
Absolutely beautiful décor. Staff are very helpful the bar man helped my friend and I decide what would be a nice afternoon cocktail before being welcomed to a table slightly earlier than normal opening. The food we had was very good. Bursting with flavour and the amazingly talented chefs gave us a selection from the menu. Pre ordering and giving them more notice would be better but can t fault them at all. Thank you to all the team especially Miguel the hot sauce hit the spot. Thanks All!
Family dinner on a Saturrday night. The restaurant accepted our last minute reservation and we had a good time. Kids menu available and friendly staff.
Had a lovely afternoon Cream Tea Fresh, plentiful and great service Food
Very disappointing. The cocktails are premixed which instantly loses a lot of appeal in my book. I was also annoyed about the little up sell of the nuts. Would you like some nuts, sir? they re fresh today says Stefan - my (incorrect) assumption was that these were complimentary as is the form in most similar establishments only to find there s a sneaky £4 extra on the bill. I raised the point but instead of simply owning up to it, Stefan s response was that he would refer to the manager instead of taking responsibility for an issue he d created. I was unimpressed. It s not the money, it s the misrepresentation that I find annoying and puts me off revisiting any time soon. Many better alternatives around the city centre.
Expensive drinks in comfortable environment Thinks its more than it really is. Service
30 pounds for a Caesar salad with only lettuce and some chicken
This restaurant used to be absolutely wonderful - inventive, delicious cooking at a sensible price. It s now so disappointing and vastly overpriced. Our meals today were very, very average and very expensive for what they were. We used to visit a lot, I doubt we ll be back.
Went for a special occasion, no real fuss was made which was disappointing considering we were the only table in the restaurant. Had to pour our own wine. Waitress was nice enough but kept complaining about how bored she was because so quiet but yet gave us basic service considering. Had a burger for mains, the bun was toasted in 2012 I think was solid as a rock and the patty was probably cooked a few years before. Came with raw onions which wasnt mentioned on the menu as have an intolerance but was never asked for alergies or intolerances so wasnt to know. Had Pinot Noir but was given small glasses instead of Pinot Noir glasses which was a minor but should know what wine goes in what glasses considering the type of prestige they wish to exude. Left without ANYONE saying goodbye and not even a thank you, all in all pretty pathetic. Wouldnt go back. Footnote, the toilets are decent if you like random old men reading books to you.
Average food and very overpriced
The food was ok, and overpriced. The cauliflower tempura was simple and nice, but the lemon sole felt mostly like a salty fish salad. Vegetarian options: There are some vegetarian/vegan options. Not too many, but typical for a restaurant.
Cocktails are good. Olives are a rip off. Fiver for 7 olives. Makes you bloody sick! You wouldnt get that up north...
Food was very nice but steak was not as good as other places Ive had. Service was ok but not as attentive as it could be.
Service slow but food incredibly delicious. A little on the expensive side for what you get.
Although I booked a table for my birthday afternoon tea, I was asked to wait at the bar for a long time, even when my guests arrived. The food was not served quickly either.
Excellent cocktails, expertly made.
Great food and service is great.
We keep coming here for our social work lunch, it s a beautiful location serving great food.
Fabulous lunch again!
A beautiful experience and a fancy venue to lounge about.
Nine number five stars place
Amazing food and great service, would recommend
This is a quality place. White table cloths and good food and service to match. I thought it was good value. About the price as good pub food but much more elegant. Food
Always enjoy our evenings here. Excellent service. Menu could be a little more creative at times. Elegant professional service.
Everything would be 5 stars were it not for the ridiculous £7 charge for a sparkling bottle of water.. I mean come on, how do you justify that
Had the afternoon tea, food was ok but the service was really bad. They took so long because they got the orders mixed up and then we wanted to order more refills but there was no one around so had to walk to the counter and ask for it, despite this they still charged us service of 20% even though there was none. The place is lovely but would not come back because of the service.
The rib eye steak with oyster mushrooms was excellent. It came with a chimichuri sauce too. We were rather excited by the sweet shop sundae desert which included seasonal/festive jelly sweets. I did order a coffee which I think was forgotten as we waited an extremely long time fot it. This dampened my overall experience alongside a small portion of the crab starter. It was rather lacking on the crab meat Id say. Judge for yourself by the photo... We had a very enjoyable meal overall. The service was great. Would I come back. Yes.
Breakfast is a train wreck. The hostess overcharges and sometimes feels the need to embarrass people. Mary is a saving grace. It flows better when she is there. The day she was gone I waited over 2 hours for a waffle and a pot of tea. Dinner is nice and Franchesco is wonderful with customer service and with atmosphere.
Very good facilities, attentive and efficient service, and excellent cuisine. The portions are a bit fair, but they are fine for dinner. The Duke of Cambridges Tart, spectacular.
I was not keen on the afternoon tea as a whole. The sandwiches were stodgy, the choice of sweet treats were disappointing. However the scones were amazing. Needed to ask for more jam and cream as was not given enough for 3 people. Customer service was good. Staff were pleasant. Lovely Atmosphere, shame there was no Xmas music playing
What an absolutely amazing place, wedding reception Christmas tea, beautiful setting, lovely food ,would definitely recommend
Good service from Adam, other waiters had very limited menu knowledge. Shocking service otherwise, had to ring the front desk to get attention, manager was ignorant, charged for items we didnt consume and doubled on another dish. Roast was very poor. Dry hard potatoes that had clearly been reheated several times. Sides were bland. Yorkshire pudding was missing. Veg roast consisted of the sides that come with the beef and charged at the same. Overall exceptionally disappointing. Management has much to do as it appears theyre resting on hotel business, tourists and the decor/venue (which are great) rather than genuine service, food and repeat custom.
A truly poor experience
It is not called Pinapple skin hooch, it is called Tepache
Excellent food and service. A very enjoyable lunch.
Menu item not provided and Inadequate service for festive afternoon tea. Two of us went today, but were not provided with water or a beverages menu until 15 minutes after seating when we waved someone down (there were only 3 other tables in the restaurant section we were in, so not busy). Tea we ordered did not arrive until a while after the food arrived. Finally while the menu promised a gingerbread person to take home they forgot to give it to us. This service is particularly disappointing given the 12.5% service charge. Further comments regarding food: The sandwiches were disappointing. However the scones and desserts generally were quite good (though can t comment on the gingerbread )
