La Maison du Steak in Cambridge

Stopped in for dinner as a group of 5 after visiting the Botanical Garden Christmas lights as just a few min walk away. As you walk in you get to see a vast selection of steak in the chiller cabinet We were seated fast and order soon taken. Great selection of steak and sides available. Food came out in good time and was fantastic, all the steaks were very well cooked just as ordered! Great selection of craft beer also, will visit again Parking: Park at the junction complex, only a short walk

Good steak, good hamburger!

We came here as we d both heard good things about the restaurant but unfortunately not impressed. Starters were the duck crème brûlée (duck paté) and the French onion soup. The brûlée was pretty good however the French onion soup wasn t based on a beef stock so was pale and insipid. It also didn t have the usual large piece of toasted bread with heaps of melted cheese. The main course was diabolical. The Boeuf Bourguignon lacked small onions and red wine, the medium sirloin steak was almost well done and incredibly tough. The sides of roasted seasonal vegetables contained brown overcooked broccoli and raw carrots, and appeared to have been sweated rather than roasted. The gratin potatoes were a single thickly sliced potato in what appeared to be a curdled cream sauce and the green pepper sauce turned out to be served cold and was mayonnaise- based, according to the server. The service was also terrible. The waitress appeared to have very little menu knowledge and I had to go downstairs to request a follow up to my complaint about the steak. In the end I asked for the bill and stated that I d only be willing to pay for the starters and the drinks. We won t be coming back.

We had a wonderful evening at La Maison du Steak. Our party of 16 people received excellent service, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked, reasonably priced, mature ribeye tomahawk. We will definitely be returning soon.

Sep 24: Although its not just steak, my strong recommendation is to go for a steak main course. That main course was excellent with good quality meat cooked to the specified amount whether rare, medium, or well done and all arrived on the table at the same time. Basically its a bistro and, if you like that kind of thing, its quite a good one. We would visit again. Parking: In the evening the streets off Brooklands Avenue have spaces and are nearby so its not as hard to park nearby as I expected.

Very patient and kind service, and an excellent steak

First, I think their portion is very generous with both starter and the main meal. For whoever reading this before going to the restaurant, I strongly recommend 3ish people order one starter. Otherwise, you will feel full before eating the big portion of steak. I personally think that the kitchen tends to overcook the meat. If you prefer the rare-medium kind of steak, this might be a bit more cooked than you think. However, the quality of the meat is not bad. And the sauces are my favourite, garlic butter is good but Green Pepper is something amazing that I would recommend people try. Chips and sweet potatoes are good as well. The general waiting time is long. Maybe because it is Saturday and the kitchen is busy but I do think my party waited a long time for the food to come. So bear that in mind when you come visit. My waiter is friendly and respond to my request fairly quickly, which I am quite satisfied with. I booked a seat about 2 hours before coming to the restaurant on the Saturday evening which I am quite happy with, as majority of the restaurant is so fully booked. I ended up in the back garden in a very good weather day. I do think the front garden gets more sun if that is something you are looking for. In general, I do think the price tag is bit higher than expected. However, not a bad place to dine. I personally would not come back as the food tasting is not that impressive (at this price range, I expect a lot more than this). However, if you want to take your date for a fancy but casual dinner, or want a high price tag to impress a friend or family, this might be a good choice without needing to book a month ahead.

Promising but disappointing. When we entered we saw cabinets with large pieces of meat, so that boded well. We ordered medium-rare ribeye. The meat was quite sinewy and still a bit rawer than we would have liked. Fries were fine but gratin potatoes were very weird, more like watery tortilla. Service was good.

Perfect steak. Perfect chops. Perfect charcuterie. Exceptional service. Love it. Parking: Park over the railway bridge at the leisure park. Only 4 mins on foot.

the quality seemed very good. the meat is from a quality farm. If you like medium, I would ask for medium-well. sadly the new chinese owner is rude and the place does not feel authentic french anymore.

Great evening, steaks were perfect, excellent matched red wines. Staff were very helpful. We went to most of the top rated places to eat in cambridge, this was by far the best. But do book as it gets busy even on a week day.

Hands down one of the best steaks I ve ever had, and a really decent price. The portion size was big aswell. Will definitely be returning.

Really nice place but just didnt deliver for me. A Porterhouse was more like a skinny T-Bone. Didnt deliver on taste either. Tried some of the others on different cuts and theirs were much better, but not amazingly so. Unfortunately quite disappointing. Food

There is very little on the menu for gluten intolerance. For some reason they were unable to put only salt on my steak - it s the house seasoning or nothing. I won t be going back because everything was over cooked. The black grill lines on the steak tasted of smoke and made me choke. Clearly they are not cleaning their grill. Likewise the sweet potato fries were over cooked- the oil needed changing. I don t want to increase my chances of getting cancer by eating burned food. Dietary restrictions: Not recommended for gluten intolerant- unable to accommodate simple changes to dishes.

I would give 5 stars if they did not serve fries out of a bag. How hard is it to cut potatoes? LAZY

Booked an early dinner, where only 4 customers in the whole restaurant and 3 waiters: 20 mins to take the first order. Big Tomahawk steak but undercooked, sent it back on grill. Food has been served to us, but there are no knives on the table. Panacotta and cheese cake on Menu served with Mango but actually was a watery disgusting sauce. Im not rushing back too soon..

Excellent birthday dinner at La Maison Du Steak on Hills Road. Some extra special French dishes, including a really delicious Boeuf Bourgignon (not photographed) an unforgettable Ribeye steak, very good wines, sublime crème brûlée!! and nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Went out for a dinner here. The service was quite good. We both had had the Sirloin steak, which was quite nice. Took a star off for the sides and starters. They weren t bad, but quality could be improved. Good value for money though.

Good steak, but any sides are extra

Fantastic food but it is a little pricey. Nothing particularly special about the decor or environment but nothing to complain about either, just nice. Only issue was that the steak knives were blunt, all five of us had the same problem. Food was highly complemented by everyone. Definitely worth a try for special occasions. I will definitely be going back.

I preferred Ribeye mature on the bone than T bone which was a bit chewy. Overall, it was okay but nothing special.

First time weve been but wont be the last, the atmosphere was great, warm lively with a good family atmosphere. The service was prompt polite and knowledgeable, the food was fabulous, some things Ive never seen before, good variety and all delicious. The bill wasnt to scary either.

We visited this restaurant New Years Eve and what a treat it was! We were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome. For starters we ordered a crab cake to share. It was huge and absolutely delicious! For main I had the beef bourginon. The beef literally fell to pieces and tasted amazing! My partner has the filet steak which was also really, really good! This was by far some of the best food we have ever eaten in the UK and reasonably priced too! Give this restaurant a go - you wont regret it! Only a short walk from the train station too! Wheelchair accessibility: My partner is a wheelchair user and we had.no.problems with access.

The staff were initially friendly and efficient. The decor was reasonable but tired. I was quite optimistic when I first saw all the meat on display which looked well aged and maintained. But the steak I received was so burnt on one side all I could taste was charcoal (don t get me wrong I like a rare steak, well seared on the outside but this was just burnt). I choose a matured ribeye for just under 40 quid. After the meal I mentioned the issues I had with the steak, as well as complimenting other parts of the meal, I was met with a stone wall of silence.

If you enjoy slow and rude service, terrible food, and being charged for food that you didn t even eat this is the perfect restaurant. This was by far the worst restaurant experience I ve ever had. For starters, the french onion soup was flavorless. The steak was chewy and flavorless which paired well with the flavorless soup (the chef didn t let the meat rest long enough before cutting it & it was cut in the wrong direction). Both myself and my partner were unable to eat more than one piece. We told the waitress we didn t like it and she insisted that the steak was fine because the chef said it was fine and nobody else complained. So, we were basically charged £95 for two bowls of soup and water since the steaks were sent back to the kitchen.

The worst service and food alert. We ate onion soup that tasted more like broth than onions and for some reason cheese was excluded from this dish as well as taste. Even the bread was sad, that shouldve warned us for whats incoming. You would think for a french place onion soup would be a perfected staple. We ordered stake and it was chewy and tasteless and the waiter tried to reason with us and change our minds. The food was taken back to the kitchen and brought back to us with an attitude. We were told that at least 5 other people ate the same thing and was happy with the meal so we should be as well. Waitress proceeded to educate us on how a medium stake should look like. The stake itself wasnt rested long enough and cut up in a wrong direction so that gives this establishment credibility to educate us on this matter. It amazes me how unbothered the lady was by our concerns, if the stake looks fine it doesnt mean it tastes fine. The saddest dining experience where we paid 100£ for soup that was equal parts soup to water and a bite of stake that was hard to swallow and were greeted with a outrageous service

Steak was tough, took them 5 mins to realise we were waiting to be seated despite the restaurant being empty and having a reservation. Oven chips and calamari done in the air fryer. Staff were friendly enough though, we just won t be returning or recommending it to anybody.

Best steaks Ive ever tasted in Cambridge!

Food was fine but the waiters attitude was bad. We didn t feel welcomed. They were impatient, not very willing to answer your questions (we asked for recommendations), and we weren t greeted at all. They charged 10% service charge and I was asked to pay the 45p on top of the £10 we ve already paid. The tomahawk steak was overcooked and a bit too burnt on the outside. To be fair I paid £48 for the steak this is not the quality I am expecting. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT to anyone unless you wanna pay service charge for a horrible service.

Food was incredible. Came here for my birthday last night and was very well looked after. My family eat excessive amounts and so I can safely say that every dish we had was to an excellent standard. Took my wife here for valentines the place was buzzing when we arrived was sat down very quickly and left to browse the menu, after 5mins was asked about drinks and the waitress was very knowledgeable about the craft beers and wine and these came quickly. The starters we had were cooked how I expected the onion soup was amazing and whitebait also,even though it was busy I asked for the mains to come in roughly 20mins as the starters were larger than expected and needed a rest which the waitress was happy to do. The mains of sirloin and tomahawk were cooked medium and done to perfection the gratin and chips were good as was the homemade slaw,now feeling stuffed I again asked for a rest bite so that I could fit a dessert in and when the creme brule came the topping was how I asked 1 tap and breaks where sometimes its hard and not edible. The whole dining experience and price was amazing and have already booked again for mothers day,thank you again la maison for a great evening and see you again soon.

Very good beef but getting the bill before we d finished our main course was a surprise. Apparently closing at 9 meant you had to go then - even without a dessert. Reminded me of the USSR s attitude towards customers.

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary. We just stumbled upon this little gem that served one of the best steaks ... the warmth welcoming service from the staff, the food and lovely decor makes this place very special. We were lucky its their anniversary celebrations promotions with free presseco and discounts... food is freshly prepared and delicious... lamb shank, mixed grill, and sirloin steak were cooked to perfection with tasty sides. We had such a lovely evening with a bottle of red wine and highly recommend this place... for sure, we will be back to taste more food items on the menu keep up the great work everyone

Beef was chewy and waitress was not really friendly (black hair), she was chatting all the time with another colleague and watching all the customers. Also when I reported that the steak was chewy and the last time it was fine she said ok I will report it to the chef without apologising without caring of my opinion she just wanted me to leave

The lamb steak is incredible, beats even the best cuts of beef, eat nothing else there now.

Warm welcome and waitress very accommodating to our little one bought High chair etc. Very relaxed atmosphere. Food was great really decent quality and well cooked steak. Ive had the ribeye on bone and also the porthouse before both spot on.

Its been a good few years since I last visited here and since that time a number of other steak restaurants have popped up in the city and glad to say this still remains my favourite. I love the feel inside and for a Wednesday early evening there was a lovely little buzz. Service was attentive with good knowledge of their menu. Inside feels a world away from the looming CB1 development I ciukd almost be in a backstreet restaurant in France. I plumped for the epic Tomahawk steak and should have listened to the waiters recommendation to go medium rare. 900g of pure beefy bliss with onlookers wondering if I would finish it off I didnt let them down! Food, setting and service all absolutely spot on couldnt recommend highly enough. Thanks everyone we will be back

As always an amazing experience at this great restaurant. The owner has got a winning formula here with great dishes and quality meat, we were made to feel welcome and the staff were very attentive and thorough. The restaurant has got a very friendly atmosphere and I would love to go back to try a bigger steak next time! Dietary restrictions: Very thorough about dietary restrictions which is a good thing. Food and service wasnt bad, but overall the atmosphere was uninviting and nothing about it made us want to return.

Some dishes taste like frozen food, not fresh. Steak tastes weird.

Amazing, high quality steak that came with sides and sauce at no additional cost - we got a huge tomahawk (950g with bone) for 2, plus drinks and it came to less than £60. Never been to any steak house where food was this cheap AND delicious. Will definitely come back and introduce friends and family to this place. Nice, cosy atmosphere, too.

Went in and asked for a table and were greeted with very rude and impatient staff. Being fully booked doesn t mean you should be rude to future patrons, which is a shame as I was looking forward to trying this place but will not be revisiting now. No idea about the food but the atmosphere and service was immediately apparent (poor) based on our very negative interaction with the staff.

That was terrible experience. As we ordered a well done steak, but whole steak was burnt and tasted bitter. Weve had well done steak many times and no one else restaurant have same taste like this.

We finally got to visit this Cambridge institution last night after moving here from Australia 4 months ago, and we were not disappointed. In fact, we had the best meal weve had since arriving in the U.K. The steak was cooked to perfection. I had the mature rib eye on the bone, my partner the fillet steak. The freshness and flavour of both cuts was outstanding. The mixed green salad was well put together and dressed perfectly, a fantastic, fresh accompaniment to my steak, green pepper sauce and fries. I had to try some of my dining companions coleslaw, and it was of the highest standard, made in house to a traditional Hungarian recipe, full of complex flavour and texture. The dessert offerings were of an equal quality, the Îles Flottantes was perfect, light and fluffy meringue floating in a crème anglaise, with freshly roasted almond slivers on top, and the Crème Brûlée rich, warm and satisfying on a cold late-November evening. The drinks list was well matched to the food offerings, we shared a lovely bottle of Nero dAvola wine with our mains, and I highly recommend an Eau de vie (french fruit brandy) or two to finish your meal. We walked home from our meal re-capping every mouthful, and revelling in the wonderful dining experience wed just had. Good food isnt cheap, but the value for money of everything we ate was outstanding. We look forward to returning again very soon, thanks to the team for a wonderful dining experience.

Stirloin steak Brisket Food

Starters were amazing, beef brisket was fatty, and the steak was tough. The glass washer was leaking a lot of water all over the floor, and there was a problem with the till. Needs a lot of TLC to the place.

Steak is steak.. But season it well, add a creamy bernaise, and pair it with a solid selection of Belgium beers and youve got something worth sitting down to. Sit on the patio

You get what you pay for. Came here with my wife on a trip to Cambridge. Had the porterhouse, she had the rib eye on the bone. Two or the best steaks we ve ever had and my wife is from japan, the land of Wagyu. Sauces were fantastic, both the garlic and the bone marrow butter. Sides were excellent- dill in coleslaw is a game changer. Excellent wines and lagers too. It s not cheap but it s worth every penny.

I love the little salad that comes with the food but the quality of the meat very much seems to depend on the price. I went for one of the cheapest meat meals today (the classic burger, which wasnt cheap) and the actual meat was dry and somehow tasted of nothing (?)

The apple tart unlocked new sensations Ive never thought I would experience. This is truly a wonderful place to eat at or order from. I had the burgers and they were a true delight. Make sure to order their cheesecake as well; it tastes heavenly. Looking forward to my next order :)

After some quick research I booked this restaurant for an evening meal. After reading many reviews I was expecting really great things, however I was left disappointed. The service was poor, the food was overpriced for the quality and we were left generally unimpressed. When one of our party asked the waitress about a certain dish, she replied saying she didnt know, which is fine... You cant expect people to know everything... but I would have expected her to at least go and ask someone else. Later on we asked for a sauce to accompany a starter we had ordered... She replied bluntly and abruptly: No. We asked another waiter who was able to assist us and was far more accommodating. The food was brought out quickly and was very well presented. The portion sizes were good. The camonbert started was very nice, the Brie was okay and the mixed bread was not particularly fresh. The fillet steak was very nice but the remainder of us ordered from the specials menu (sashi black striploin) and were left disappointed with our meals. The cost of the food just did not match the quality provided, this is why I feel the food was overpriced. Would I recommend this restaurant? Unfortunately not.

I ve been fortune to travel the country and world on business and have found La Maison Du Steak to offer the very best steak I ve had the pleasure of tasting. It is always very well seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. The peppercorn sauce has a very well balanced citrusy and zesty aftertaste and service is always on point. Truly the piece de resistance of Steakhouses
