Chic, laid-back steak restaurant and bar in a former quayside warehouse with exposed brick walls.
We received the most amazing attentive service to celebrate my sister’s graduation. We were a large group and both Ishan and Spandan were on top of everything in regard to service. No glass was ever empty, food was brought in a timely manner and it was so delicious too, from starters to mains to desserts. Couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough, thank you so so much for the attention, the service and food 😊🙏🏽
Stopped in here the other day for dinner, meat pie was delicious, I did not enjoy the lobster bisque so much, service was great, and it’s a lovely location, I would try it again.
Wonderful service from beginning to end. Attentive staff with helpful suggestions. Felt more like the service you get at fine dining restaurants. The food was class and the views perfect. This made my husband’s birthday a grand success. Thank you so much. We can’t wait to return. The only suggestion is that service charges be automatically added to the bill so any additional tips can go straight to the server.
What a train wreck! Good location, acceptable but boring menu. Stunningly awful service. Slow, crowded, noisy and totally disinterested in making their guests happy. It took well over an hour to get our food, and we were not visited by the server after we placed our order. It was hot and we became thirsty, but nobody cared. Our table was jammed in by a server station, in the overcrowded and under-serviced upper level. A table sanitation bottle was literally 12 inches away from my face. I was not going to post this review, as I contacted the restaurant to see if they would respond and possibly apologize. Of course, they did not. Do not walk away. Run! As quickly as possible.
Great dinner by the water! We ordered calamari and halloumi for starters and lamb chops and chicken caesar salad for mains, as well as cheesecake for dessert. I also had the Cucumber and Elderflower Collins (which was amazing!) and the Lemon and Ginger Caipirovska. Shoutout to the host/waiter and bartender because the service and drinks were excellent.
Great atmosphere and great service, the manager was expert at pouring wine and very friendly too. Nice fried calamari as a starter but beef carpaccio should be better as it needs some nice olive oil on it. We had tomahawk and it came with sauces and sides too, paid extra for prawns which was worth it. Nice crispy chips and wedges, chimichurri sauce could be better. Steak was beautiful and perfectly cooked, quite juicy and tender too. Good enough portion for two people.
Disappointing steakhouse. The scotch egg is alright, not the best I’ve had. The meat filling tastes like floury sausage. Personally I’d prefer meatier version. The crust is light and crispy, thinly dusted with breadcrumb. It may taste better with more thickness. The garlic dressing is too pungent and can be quite overpowering. The waiting time between starter and main is long. My friend ordered medium “marbled” ribeye. It was more than well done (sarcasm). We had to saw it with the knife. Almost nothing pink. Many tough tendons. (An elderly gentleman next table choked when eating his steak pie..) Wedges… burnt. My friend asked if they were sweet potatoes, but no, just poor regular potatoes scorched under the broiler (oven temperature definitely too high, the inside is still slightly raw/starchy). As a potato skin lover, I have to admit this is bitter and tragic. Didn’t anyone in the kitchen see the sad lava color? The chips weren’t crispy enough but what a bliss. Lobster has nice buttery seasoning but is also over cooked. A little dry and rubbery. The best part was the grilled tomato. Service was friendly. Seats are quite tight.
We had the best place in the location. Near the window, we could see the punters passing by the water, the cocktails were so lovely, and the food was tasty. I took the English pie, a generous portion and for a reasonable price. Try the sticky toffee pudding, it is mindblowing. The service was excellent, and I highly recommend visit this restaurant.
Been here many times over the years. It s l one of my favourite steak restaurants. I have even recommended it to people. On this occasion was left slightly disappointed by the service. The food was excellent as usual. I shared a scotch egg for starters with a friend. Followed by a ribeye steak with very tasty pak choi, and some beautiful potato wedges. I ve had numerous cuts of steak here over the years, and the ribeye is perfection in my humble opinion. I cannot rate the food highly enough. My only gripe on this occasion was the service. One member of staff in particular. I ve never had an issue before, so it came as a slight surprise. The restaurant was busy, but not packed or full. A unmade table by the window became free shortly after our arrival. We did request to move tables, but only because we were centred in the middle and felt squashed in. If it had been packed we wouldn t have inconvenienced them. He seemed put out by the request because he had to clean the other table. Whilst placing our order he seemed busy paying attention to something out the window. Very little conversation. When I go for a meal, it s the package. Not just the food, service is important, especially when paying good money for the experience. Didn t get a goodbye or thankyou at the end of the meal either. This has never happened before. Hasn t put me off returning, maybe it was just an off evening. I understand it s a busy time of year. However, service is very important to me, and I have to vote the overall experience down 1 star based on that.
We had our work Christmas do here! The area we had was great and the service was top draw. The food was lovely, and the choice of cocktails was superb. They even have a diagram to help you pick!
Such a lovely place! The food was delightful and customer service was absolutely fantastic. The team were lovely and polite. The table we had was with view to the river and that made our visit extra special. Thank you
Unfortunately we experienced a very disappointing meal here last week. This is usually our go-to restaurant for special occasions however we felt there has been a dramatic decline in the quality since our last visit a year ago. For a good quality steakhouse I would expect the steak to be cooked as requested, however both orders were not cooked correctly. My medium steak came out rare, upon sending it back twice it still was not cooked enough to be considered medium , the third try it was cooked well-done which I just gave up and ate. Throughout this my partner ate his alone, and my chips and sauce stayed on the table going cold while waiting for the steak. My Ribye steak itself was stringy and parts un-edible. Extremely disappointing especially for the price. On the plus side, the starters were fantastic and the restaurant itself is a lovely setting. However over all, with a bill of £200 for 2 people which included a service charge automatically added of £20, and an extremely disappointing experience, we would be hesitant to return.
Very nice restaurant with great attentive service.
A restaurant by the river cam, good quality and portions of foods, cocktail and selections could be improved.
Amazing dishes. Would go again
Almost perfect I had to pay extra for something that wasnt ordered and didnt realise until afterwards. Food
I had a New York steak, my wife the carpaccio and moules mariniere and some beers and wine. The food was delicious and the portions generous, the atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent - very attentive and polite. We were lucky to have a nice view over the river too. Would recommend this place if you like steaks
What a great place. Food tastes like home, very well seasoned, great quality. The manager was very friendly and helpful. He recommended us some dishes and it was delicious. Thank you Simba
Excellent experience, the staff were brilliant and the food Excellent. Thank you.
Service was great, they gave us a really nice table for my partners birthday with a view of the river
I visited with colleagues who all enjoyed their steaks. I had the risotto and it wasnt great, lacking in flavor but there was no other vegetarian option. Staff were friendly. Vegetarian options: Lacking but maybe not unexpected for a steakhouse. As a vegetarian there is usually one good option on the menu in a steakhouse to accommodate but the risotto was poor.
Really enjoyed it. Food service drinks staff location all great. We found food presentation in pans a bit strange. But superb we will be back.
One of my fave restaurants. Delicious food, great service and great atmosphere
Have been visiting this restaurant for years for all manor of celebrations. The service and staff has always been great, until now. I found the service rushed, the prices expensive, the food was ok but not worth the price. The refusal of allowing us to serve our suprise birthday cake topped off the evening. Shall not be returning
Great service and the best food.
Slow service. Nice starters but steaks weren t well cooked- took so long to order that the grill had gone cold I guess- they were dry and tasteless. Quite a small restaurant. Dietary restrictions: There is an allergy chart for gluten, sulphites etc but it didn t include black pepper.
Carpaccio couldve been thinner, Chimichurri couldve been better
Unbelievable food, outstanding service, what a treat. Ribs and steak pie.
A great place to eat, steaks were out of this world and the Porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection. Great cocktails and atmosphere. Pricey but worth it.
Fantastic food and service
Wonderful experience, great food.
We went for my sons 21st and we felt so special from the moment we walked in. The staff were exceptional and the food was just beautiful. Our first visit and definitely not our last. Thank you so much for a wonderful night x
The beef is delicious. All sides are good too. Would recommend there. Ask to be in the main room as the other room usually used for private event does not have the same vibes - decoration and atmosphere could be better. Nice staff. Food
Right to start with, going in the host with quite blank with us and not very welcoming. Took a while for host to come and see us each time. Had others in the restaurant being disruptive. Food was okay my steak was over cooked and had a lot of grissly bits. My starter, crab cakes, though was 10/10. Overall for the price you pay wouldn t go back!
Amazing food and great location and views, service was excellent! A tad expensive Scollops and king prawn starters were superb!! Fillet Steak was lovely and the Ribs perfect too. Piña colado and margarita cocktails also amazing!
The atmosphere was wonderful, especially with the view of the river cam. The service was amazing, with Priscilla going above and beyond. While the steaks werent the best in town, their cocktails, like the French martini and old fashioned, were fantastic.
Had lunch on 23/3 not a good experience: Ordered the pie and a glass of red to go with it. Took a long time to arrive & was after my partners food. Pie looked good (strange why it s served on a napkin on plate) but when I tried the centre the meat was stone cold. Even after long wait. Complained and opted to have an alternative to speed things up. No apology. On settling the bill noticed pie was still on there! Manager then brought new bill & announced he d taken it off for me as if he was doing me a favour. Amazing cheek. Fell on deaf ears that surely they re check temp before serving. Also he didn t grasp that wind selection is often based on food being eaten and a different wine should have been offered for the new selection. Venue is fairly pompous and the food isn t exactly special. Will avoid when in Cambridge.
We took 3 teenagers here as we couldn t get a reservation at our favoured steak restaurant in Cambridge. The gym downstairs had their music so loud that we could chat nor could the waiting staff hear to take our order. The room was dark & dingy with no windows nor ambiance. 4 of our 5 steaks were good, the fifth was a third fat. What spoilt the steaks was they were a swimming in something, I presume butter, which wasn t pleasant nor the gimmicky metal skillets they were served in. Price wise similar to our favoured restaurant so literally no reason to return.
Lovely restaurant with a very friendly staff and most importantly lovely food. We loved our starters and mains. Would definitely recommend
Great service especially by the black concierge/manager. He has unique people skills making patrons feel super comfortable and at ease. Its a massive shame we couldnt get his name. Overall the restaurant offered great service.
Such an underrated restaurant! The food is amazing (vegan options included), but the cocktails are out of this world!
Customer service and food was superb. Will recommend and go again.
For the price I paid for the lobster mac n. cheese, I expected something better, more special. It was good but not great. In general, we had a really good time and the staff was super helpful and friendly.
Everything was lovely until the staff decided to switch all the bright lights on just as we were starting our desserts and then they stood and stared at us. It was only 10pm and the restaurant closes at 11pm. Made us feel very uncomfortable and forced to leave. We would ve had one last cocktail.. but we didn t feel welcomed.
The location is great and the service / servers were friendly and attentive. The food is a bit disappointing though. The steaks themselves were good but didnt seem well seasoned; the wedges just seemed overcooked. The desert (brownie) was an odd temp, with the chocolate sauce warm but the brownie itself chilled / cold? Just made for an odd combo of hard cold brownie and warm chocolate.
We were very disappointed. We were placed in an over flow room with no atmosphere, we had very inexperienced waiting staff who were seen arguing who was going to take our order. It was very clear that they didn t want to. Our food was very delayed and when it did come out, was just ok. We had high expectations, as the restaurant had been recommended, but in no way did it live up to standards. We were one of 4 tables that I complained whilst we were there, one of which had to walk out as their food was over 90 minutes late and had not even been put through to the kitchen. Such a shame, but we will not be returning
Lovely place, good location, great food!
Food was lovely. Service was exceptional and the restaurant manager was extremely helpful!
Make sure you look how they want you to even if you just go in to book a table or they will tell you they re fully booked. Checked the website and they had every time available. Terrible professionalism.
The service and attention from your staff was excellent. The Lobster was fantastic, it all made an brilliant evening for my parents, wife and I.
The Best Steak, Food & Atmosphere ever!!!
The food was excellent but I must say what makes the food even better is the atmosphere. Very good service
Food and Service always top quality.
10/10 for food and service
I booked for dinner on December 24 with my girl and it may have been the worst treatment I received in a restaurant. I booked at 9:15 p.m. and at 10:15 a.m. they were pushing us to finish even picking up the plates before we finished eating. waiter sat next to us to talk about his life in Cambridge. Shameful. 130 pounds and it was a very bad experience. a shame to have dinner like this on December 24
Cosy place, will visit again.
We had to wait on arrival for over 20 minutes for space to open up even though we had a booking. Friendly staff but food was very overpriced.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Highly recommended and will visit Cambridge just to dine here..
Overrated and too expensive for what they offer.
Unfortunate that I have to write this review as had two good experiences here previously (a couple of years ago). Had a booking to celebrate a special occasion. With it being January, it was not too busy. Our drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive and even after the initial delay, were then given to the another table who had arrived and ordered after us. We were halfway through our mains by the time we finally received our drinks. Shame as wanted to have ordered some wine with my main but didnt get chance. No rosemary seasoning on the chips, had to ask for sauces for our sides twice. Our salad side we ordered had also been a spare lying out on the counter since before we arrived and then given to us. Despite it being quiet, they tried to crowd all the tables together which was unnecessary. Tables next to us seemed to have slightly better service so maybe we were unlucky but given the prices and how quiet it was, I dont think thats acceptable. No attempt or interest from the staff to rectify our issues so quickly decided to settle the bill (bar the service charge) and leave to continue our evening elsewhere. A real shame as we wanted to have a good meal and previously did have a good time here but a place will only be as good as the last time you visit it. Will give it a miss next time in Cambridge.
Beautiful birthday meal! Would highly recommend
Amazing riverside bar and restaurant with great menu and friendly helpful staff.
Really good place and food was delicious. Expensive but worth it. Food
AWFUL EXPERIENCE. A fellow diner choked on his steak. My lamb was ok, but the steaks were stringy, tasteless, covered in a sauce that was not requested, and over-priced., WE WILL NOT BE BACK......... Only positive was our amazing waitress who was very apologetic, even though we told her several times it was not her fault. Giving 1 star as wont allow no star rating, so the 1 star is for the waitress!!!
The prices are high, the service is substandard and the restaurant isnt anything to write home about. If Im paying £30+ for a steak I do not expect to find shards of bone left in it. I chipped my tooth on the bone - after telling the waiter (who we could barely understand) their response was lack luster. Staff wore trainers. My wife found both the womens and shared toilet to have no loo roll - she informed the staff but they didnt do anything about it. Within a minute of getting our food we were approached by our waiter asking if our food was all ok - we hadnt taken our first bite! The food - I had the sirloin steak, chips and peppercorn sauce. It was ok but Ive had much better and when factoring in the price I would say its a rip off. This place is attached to a hotel so it feels like a tourist trap. They had a view of the river but again, much like the restaurant, not that special. I would recommend going elsewhere. Wheelchair accessibility: None
Had my first English Sunday Roast here and it was excellent the service was also great and attentive & sat at a table with a nice river view. Feels like a hidden gem of a restaurant!
The food and drinks were absolutely amazing as usual. We had a long table at the entrance of the restaurant. It was super busy and personnel and other guests were passing us by all the time, but we didnt really notice. Staff made the service look effortless. Even though it was the busiest it could probably get, all orders arrived promptly and staff were super friendly. We did actually celebrate our wedding party (10 people altogether) and communication to book was easy. We had to pre-book our food and the staff had prepared name cards with the orders, which was genius (as we all didnt really remember our choices). I cannot recommend Riverbar and Steakhouse enough.
Excellent service the food was delicious
Stopped by for an early dinner with the wife after shopping. Maitre D Sibu was very pleasant and accommodating upon arrival, a true gentleman. Table had view of the Cam and tourist punts passing by. Food was excellent and service was great, staff very professional and attentive We will be back, can highly recommend
I am really gutted to be writing this review. Having been using the river bar steak house as our regular eating establishment for years, tonight was extremely disappointing. The last visit was a bit hit and miss, but tonights visit unfortunately means we will not be returning. We had scallops and calamari to start, which was nice, but then the steaks, which of course is what we go for, we had 2 fillet steaks, which were very bland, and very chewy, however given the price, we ate them. When we were asked how our meal was, we mentioned that it was unfortunately the worst meal we have had there. The waiter was apologetic and said he would see if there was anything they could do, and informed the guy who floats about in a suit, not quite sure what his job role is, he just seemed to boss everyone around. This guy, couldn t care less. He literally shrugged his shoulders and handed the waiter the card machine to come and take our payment. Not even an apology, let alone an offer of a complimentary drink. Very disappointed and won t be returning. I also over heard 2 other tables complaining about their food being below average, so clearly there s a problem somewhere.
Food was great but poor service unfortunately.
Nice stakes for sure.
Came here for the 3 course valentines menu 2023 We had a lovely evening, food was brought out quickly and tasted amazing. Staff were attentive and friendly even the ones who seemed a bit new and young. All in all a fab evening despite the restaurant being packed, we didn t feel rushed at all.Loved the steak and pork belly was just divine. House red is actually really great plus the crème brûlée was absolutely amazing. Warm scotch egg for starters was so so good and probably the best one I ve ever tasted.
Great food! Tables are a little close together and service was a little slow but well worth a visit overall!
Had an amazing time, the service was spot on. Good selection of foods to choose from. Steak was cook to perfection.. Good selection of wine and cocktails not so much beer :) Staff were friendly and up for a chat. Make sure to make a reservation :)
We have been to River bar many times and are usually not disappointed however we went last night for my birthday and I must say it wasnt as good as normal! We had the chateaubriand cooked medium the edges were burnt. The middle of the meat was good but definitely not worth the £70 paid for it. Staff seemed less welcoming and accommodating than previous visits too overall not the experience we usually have :(
Organised a meal for my partners 30th birthday. I emailed a few days before hand as she s celiac to just make sure she could be catered for, we got a yes we can comfortably cater for celiacs. When we got to the restaurant we had to ask for the allergen menu to then be told that even though majority of the items that were gluten free they aren t because of how they re cooked. My partner politely just asked is there any chance the chef could just shallow fry or sauté some potato s for here. Not too much to ask. We got a firm NO then a she can have salad. We did ask the manager to see if he could do anything. He went and spoke to the chef and you could visibly see the chef being rude and shutting it down. This made my partner feel so bad she can t help having an auto immune disease and the rudeness from the chef was unacceptable. There was barely any full tables so it wasn t like it was busy. After the manager had successfully failed to do anything he then came to push for my partner to have the salad. I m sorry we re not paying £30 and up for a piece of steak and some leaves. The way the staff handled the whole situation was below standard. They were rude not friendly and came across as arrogant. I have also seen that this is not an uncommon review of the staff. They don t seem to want to do anything about it. All in all we had looked forward to this meal after being assured it could all be catered for we d have a great time. Which was not the case. I would highly recommend not going to this place. If you want a good atmosphere friendly staff and an all round good experience I would highly recommend going to the ivy, we had walked out of the river steakhouse and went looking for somewhere to fit us in. We walked to the ivy. The were fully booked to take a table of 6 but we were outside trying to find somewhere and the host came out and managed to find us a slightly smaller table just so we had somewhere we could enjoy the 30th birthday. Absolute champ. After the whole debacle we ended up having a great time and had an outstanding meal with great service at the ivy
Amazing place with great meals. 1st class meat, great drinks, and one of the best localisation. Have to visit if you in town.
Great weekend dinner. We were from London visiting family in Cambridge and went there for dinner and have the best night out! The staffs were so friendly and warm. Bronik, the manager personally came and talk to us, gave suggestions on drinks. We re definitely coming back here. Highly recommended for anyone who are visiting Cambridge or already live in here.
My mum came to visit me after a long time and we had the chance to have a lovely lunch by the river. The food was amazing. We shared the Chateaubriand steak medium rare and a lovely rocket salad that was tasting super fresh! The wedges were amazing and crunchy but not too oily. Sauces were super and the steak was just YUMMY. We have been served by Sibu and he has been super accommodating and he looked after us in a wonderful way. Super guest service. Recommended 100%.
Great experience, really incredible food
Great atmosphere. The drinks are delicious and the staff are super knowledgeable about the wine and cocktails. The food was out of this world, especially for how quick it was. Vegetarian options: There were 3 vegetarian and vegan mains. Not a huge selection but good for a steak house
very small area with less options for food. good for bar though
We come every year on my partner s birthday. The food is always outstanding and service is second to none.
It was our fourth time in the River Bar and we enjoyed it the most! Samuel is a very kind and hard worker person and he was all the time very attentive to us. The thing we liked less this time is that our table was in a different place and we could not see the river, but the place was packed so we understand. The chateaubriend was just amazing!!
Had a lovely evening meeting with friends and the food was great. Service was very attentive and the view from the restaurant was lovely in the evening sun. Happily return next time we are in the area.
Nice food, excellent service if I had any complaints it would be slightly cramped space.
Very good
Unfortunately, the steak that was strongly recommended to me by the waiter (not the one I was going for) had half fat, half meat... Trust me you will not be disappointed... This steakhouse with river view is ok, but I believe they are better ones to be found in Cambridge.
Highly recommended Best steak weve had anywhere - will definitely be returning when in Cambridge! Staff were very attentive and ensured everything was perfect. You pay for what you get here, which is amazing food, cooked to perfection. Food : 5/5
Great birthday meal
Wonderful food and amazing, amazing service! My family and I enjoyed the steak, cod and pies. All very tasty and great quality price balance. Regards from Tenerife.
great food and atmosphere but new waiting staff rude, imitating customers and made you feel as if it was a chore to get a drink from a barside table. very disappointed in recent visit.
Had the most amazing time ever. I can say it was the best restaurant i have ever been. Great food. Great Cocktails. And the Service it was exceptional. 10*
Lovely atmosphere and the food was to die for
Our first impression was of the restrooms which desperately need updating. The restaurant is pleasant. We were seated quickly and enjoyed the environment. Our tomahawk steak that we shared was average. We expected more based on experiences in other other restaurants with tomahawk. Wine was good. Service was excellent. The manager was very nice as well.
Good food and atmosphere, service slightly on the slow side. It would have been easier to eat the delicious Caesar salad in a bowl!
Very pleasant eatery, attentive service and an atmosphere conducive to conversation. Belly pork was fantastic
Beautiful place, right next to the river, tucked away, so you get romantic privacy vibe. But we visited first time and last. Service was non existent, no greeting by the server while passing by and clearing the table next to us - Any water? First thing that was said. Can t fault cocktails - they were delicious, compliments to the bartender. Lovely gent! Food - starter made us laugh, burrata - or shall I say half of it, with some rocket and wedge of lemon. Not worth the price! Mains - steak and lobster surf and turf - all good, quite hard to get it wrong. Chicken Cesar salad - lettuce, soggy in dressing, 20% away from a soup, some croutons which is the salad itself (£15,9) plus small chicken breast on top (additional £7). So £22+ for bowl of soggy lettuce and a bit of chicken. No one asked for second round of drinks or checked and asked if we enjoying the meal. When plates were cleared, we mentioned poor quality of the salad and our dissatisfaction with it. An apology, of 2 words was given and that was that! We asked for our bill when plates were cleared, never received it. Waited for about 10min, no desserts offered no coffees, we were just left there, till we asked for our bill once more. In the end left hungry but paid £118 bill. We expected so much more from an establishment as this, as we often visit SIX, and roof terrace in the hotel.
Very tasty steak. Good service. but in the evening they increased the volume of the music, at first they tried to shout down, in the end they had to leave, since it was impossible to talk, this is still not a disco, but a restaurant.
DO NOT GO HERE...OVER PRICED AND OVER RATED! 90 pounds for ok burger and inedible steak pie.
Great steak and lovely service.
Lovely place with great service. Up on arrival the service was very good. Everything went very smoothly and the food was great. Surf and turf was very good, and the sticky toffee pudding aswell. I will come again
The best steak place Ive found in Cambridge and cocktails are fantastic.
A disappointing experience. A well meaning, but undertrained waiter was attentive but lacked experience and overstepped the mark by wrongly assuming I was on a date (with my best friend!) and insisted on shaking our hands repeatedly! We ordered three sirloin steaks, there was high degree of variation in the quality of the cut, one was very lean another was sinewy and tough. Perhaps most shocking is that a sirloin steak and one drink (no sides/starters/desserts) came to £50 a head - astronomically expensive for a very average meal.
Just wanted to say that my experience was 10/10 from the second I walked through doors, the food was outstanding! All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful but 1 person did stand out. Sibu has gone over and beyond to make sure that my special day was very successful! advised on what s best and took matters into his own hands to make sure mine and my other halves night was one to remember! Can t recommend the restaurant enough
Excelkent
The steak was good. Only thing not happy was the price is a little bit high
Food and drinks service was excellent. Staff were soooo friendly! Immaculate restaurant. All this justified the price we paid for a special night out. We will visit again when we are next in Cambridge.
Very expensive but worth the price for a special occasion. The food was very abundant, the meat was fork tender and delicious, also cooked to perfection (asked for medium and they got it just right). We were served by Marco, who was polite and friendly. We didnt wait much to get our food and had a great time.
Great food, good wine selection too, not a huge restaurant, so book ahead. I ordered the whole lobster with fillet (pic 1). A friend had the rare steak (forgot its French name pic 2). Another friend had the porterhouse with an extra of prawns (pic 3)
Fancied going here. Used the book a table option. We fancied 2pm on Friday. Booking confirmed. Arrive at 2pm on Friday. They dont open til 5pm... I know it says that if you go and look for it, but you also expect the booking to know this, and you expect you dont need to go and look elsewhere if youre actually able to make a booking.
First off I will say Im a vegetarian so not the target audience food-wise (Im pretty sure they served us oven chips though ). Main issue was the atmosphere - we were given a table in the back room and it was sooo noisy it was difficult to have a conversation without shouting - not an enjoyable experience.
I am fuming so angry I m so rich and trying to but a wagu steak and you re telling me YOU DONT HAVE ANY!!! Outrageous definitely not coming back
Absolutely amazing!! Delicious food and stunning cocktails, paired with an incredible and friendly service from all the staff. 11/10, would highly recommend!!
Fillet steak and chips for 3 and all cooked perfectly. Seemed strange when they came that they were on hot skillet but worked well and didn t over cook it (medium rare) Food
The food was alright, albeit very pricey. For that cost I d expect the food to be a bit higher quality. However the wine selection was excellent. Our waiter was very nice however the actual service was a little bit lacklustre. We waited a long time to order and then it took quite a while for food to come out. If we wanted extra drinks we had to get his attention as opposed to him being attentive. Enjoyed our evening but we will not be returning.
By the water, food was good, service was slower than most restaurants in town. .
The staff is SUPER NICE! They were closing when I arrived- but they made me feel comfortable up to the last minute! I had the shortcrustnpie big enough to share if you are not a big eater!! Food
We had a very good Sunday lunch. Mains were grilled salmon on pakchoy served with wedges and a rocket and Roguefort cheese salad. Roast beef Sunday lunch with rocket stomata and parmazan cheese. Very good service and lovely views over the River Cam made the day
Food tasted amazing. Service was excellent and personal. Food arrived quickly. Atmosphere was nice too! Food : 5/5 |
Great Restaurant Its very hard to get a restaurant with seafood menu in Cambridge. Everything cooked in perfection. Especially the steak. So tender and juicy, not chewy. Not all restaurant can do that. All of the seafood are well cooked and seasoned. The Mac and cheese had a lot of loster meat inside. The pasta was hearty, rich and butterly but not too salty. Suggested to have a side salad to offset the richness. Its a clean restaurant with a good view. Relax atmosphere. Can I ask more than that?
All the staff were exceptional, especially Nick making amazing cocktails! The steaks were flavoursome and perfectly cooked and service was attentive.Had never been before but will definitely be back - well done all working at Riverside
Very nice restaurant friendly and helpful staff tasty food
Great friendly and attentive staff, beautiful food and great environment at a reasonable price
Despite its reputation, disappointingly average. Despite the considerable cocktail menu, you could count the alcohol-free options on one hand. The steak & chimichurri was good, although I was surprised to have had to order chips separately. An additional £12 got me 5 small prawns on the side, which although tasty, did feel like a bit of a rip-off. My wife had the lobster, which didn t come with the advertised butter, as the menu stated, and again, they seemed to initially forget the chips, bringing them out 5 minutes after everything else. I definitely wasn t after a stuffy dining experience, but the waiter lightly resting his hand on my shoulder every time he came to check on the table was a bit unwelcome.
Very poor. This restaurant has been slipping over the years. Whilst the food was ok, it wasn t worth anywhere near the cost of the bill. Cocktails are good, but overpriced. Sadly the atmosphere in the place is poor, so much so that the lights turned on bright and staff were clearing up at around 10-10:30pm - the staff couldn t wait for us to go, despite us only finishing our meal 20 minutes prior. 1 maybe 2 good staff members, but the rest didn t want to be there. Some busy on WhatsApp in the corner whilst you re waiting for service. (assumably the GM, as he was dressed in a blue suit) was having conversations with staff at the top of the stairs right next to our table, basically having a go at the waitress for how she had filled the tables with people in her area. Not a good show from him as a manager. Ended up paying £280 for 2 people. 1 shared starter, mains each with 2 sides, bottle of wine and a few cocktails. Won t be returning and on its current demise I m not sure how much longer it ll be open.
Disappointing and poor value for money. Inexperienced staff. Manager actively avoided us when we wanted to address issues. Drinks arrived after starters, steak issues (fillet warped and had gristle, poorly rendered rib eye and bone shard in sirloin), set custard-esq creme brûlée. Cheap glassware. Bottle of mineral water was warm. At this price point, it should be on point. It wasnt.
Asked for my steak medium and it came out medium well. It was still cooked very well and tasted good, but medium would have had more flavour. Our waiter was excellent, allowed me to taste the chimichurri before hand (which was excellent), and the cocktails are to die for!! We were sat in the overflow room which was just a tad dark for my liking. All in all a very good experience and my partner enjoyed it until she saw the bill (which I paid of course being a traditional man, dating a very wonderful traditional woman). I would recommend this place and I would go back. Parking: Just get a cab or walk in. It will be far less stressful.
Not horrendous, but far from great either. Overall very bad value for money. Wont be rushing back.
Nice steaks, lovely atmosphere. Very pricey though, save up if you want to go here.
It was ok been to better places waiters hovering around not there when you do want them dont know what i was expecting but expected better
All good!
We went there for mini golf. There is also shuffleboard.
This is my father s favourite steakhouse. Our family went there for the first time tonight since my university years. Despite a slight mishap, Bronik and team have gone out of their way to make our evening - thanks again.
Not a lot here for money as it seemed very expensive for what you got.
My 2 friends and I were seated to browse the menu. We were offered what we thought was complimentary water. After viewing the extortionate prices we were asked were we ready to place our order. We said we hadn t! decided! We then decided not to eat. We left the restaurant. Half way down the road we were chased by one of the waitresses to say could we all go back to Pat £4,90 for the water. We said we thought it was complimentary! We had to trawl through the restaurant to pay the £4,90. Absolute shocking. Definitely won t be going there again!
Great meal and fantastic service
Had a nice meal with friends. The service was good and very friendly. The steaks were delicious, a good selection of wines and the dessert was very nice. Overall we really enjoyed our visit. Parking: There is no parking
Fantastic; Id just proposed to my fiance and the staff there made us feel very special; would highly reccomend
Too expensive for what you get. Portions are small and carelessly designed and the drink sizes are outrageous for the price.
Simply amazing food! Everything was so delicious. You get what you pay for I guess, as this was very expensive in my view, but one of the best meals Ive ever had. Service was fast and food nice and hot. Also, one of the best espresso martinis Ive ever had!
Food was really delicious, service was excellent, setting by the river is scenic. The cocktails could be improved, taste was quite sharp on the summer spritz my sister said (I think it was called), but overall really couldnt knock the place and would definitely return for the steak Dietary restrictions: Gluten free catered for well with menu to view allergens on each dish
Had a good meal here, had to wait a bit for our reserved table, but all was good. Good service, good steak. The entrance could be more welcoming, so much that we were unsure we had the right place.
Firstly I would just like to say how amazing the staff are, very professional and really friendly, we came a little early and no other customers were there but they still made us feel welcome and comfortable! Secondly the meal was just unreal, one of the best meals I ve ever eaten, for starters I had the scallops and I ve never had them cooked so well, my partner had the halloumi and said it was amazing, the for main the steak was perfect, cooked beautifully. The lobster was super yummy, again cooked perfectly and tasted great! Then for the pudding, OH MY GOODNESS YOU HAVE TO TRY THE NUTELLA MARTINI, it s to die for, the best desert cocktail I ve ever had! I cannot recommend this place enough. We came here for our anniversary meal and was not disappointed, the whole experience was the best.
Fancied a steak while visiting Cambridge, so after some Googling we found The Riverbar. The food was great, we ordered a mix of starters but the scallops were by far the nicest of the three. We both had steaks for mains, a porterhouse and a fillet, which were very nice. The only down side was we where seated in the back room of the restaurant away from the river and it was extremely nosy.
Excellent food, both meals arrived perfectly, compliments to the chef 5* great service and very friendly staff and would not hesitate in recommending to others that like a steak meal.
It was a shame as I had hope that this restaurant was going to be great. I had come in during the day and asked for a river view seat if available. I arrive and there was one free but they choose not to sit us there. We ordered extra sides, they never come become the waiter never put them through. Steak was a nice size but lacked the quality you usually get in a Steakhouse. Overall it was ok and but feel like with a few changes it could be a really nice place.
Beautiful restaurant tucked away beside the River Cam. On their website they suggested places to park which is very convenient. They provide a wide variety of cocktails and wines, that differ in price range. We had the bone marrow and seared scallops to start, they were divine! The steaks were perfectly cooked to our liking; I asked for garlic butter as a sauce with my steak and they were happy to provide me with this option, very pleased! The sticky toffee pudding was delicious! Our waiter Abdul was very tentative, we were served in great time and it was a great experience! 100% going back!
Christian greeted us, Sibu sat us and Abdul served us one of the best meals of our lives. Made us feel at home and had an incredible evening. Could not recommend the place enough. Must visit!
Amazing food and lovely atmosphere.
Great location, food and staff. Well worth a visit.
Lovely food, great service, really friendly staff
From our experience, The Riverbar Steakhouse and Grill is a bit overpriced for what it is. I had ordered a mojito, the mac n cheese, and seared scallops to start. The mojito was not good in any regard and needless to say tasted of just tequila (Whereas the drink is supposed to be lightly sweet, refreshing, and tart). The mac n cheese was almost flavorless due to the type of cheese they use. It almost tasted like just plain jack cheese with noodles and needed some seasoning (in my opinion). As for the seared scallops, they were by far the best seafood dish I received here in Cambridge hands down. For our mains, I ordered the 12oz sirloin (Medium to medium rare). and was highly disappointed. The steak was overcooked and burnt on one side, and severely undercooked (not to my liking) on the other side and lacked any kind of seasoning or flavor. I believe the poor-quality steak is hidden by the richness of their accompanying sauces which is a bit of disgrace to the meat. The chips accompanying it seemed to be from the bottom of the basket as they were all around 2.5 cm in length. We then moved on to dessert and I ordered the cheesecake. Thich was a mistake of course as it tasted like it had sat out for almost a whole day. The cheesecake was starting to separate and almost had a tartness to it that was unnatural. The berry topping on it was flavorless and tasted as if someone had made the topping at the beginning of the week and brought it in and not of the freezer constantly. I will say that the waiter we had was a bit hard to understand as he was from the middle east, but he lacked a little promptness when it came to putting in our food. The rest of the staff seemed a bit timid towards our group as we are not from the UK, but the host upon entering was extremely welcoming and polite. Overall, its not the worst experience Ive had in Cambridge but definitely not worth the 75 plus pounds per person to eat a 3-course meal.
Top quality, top service, top prices, top location.... Highly recommended place Top quality, top service, top prices, top location.... Highly recommended
Great steak restaurant with good view of the river and great ambience. The ingredients are fresh, especially steaks. Fresh and good quality meat. The waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was special occasion for me and their service really added a lot of value to the dining experience. Would recommend any choice of steak and Nutella martini which they can make an alcohol free option too.
5 star to Cristian and his team, as a family we all enjoyed well our dinner
Rude staff. Large group booking. A large bill. Everyone was polite and coutious, but it appears they want quiet couples and intimate dining - why accept large group bookings....
Brilliant service from Anastasia. Left with more cards than Clintons.
Very disappointed with the food, service and overall experience. Please search elsewhere if you re looking for a good restaurant. It s not worth it.
The food is delicious
Have a very well cooking steak, good service and the price is reasonable
Thumbs up!
Overpriced and overspiced, error in bill. The waiters were friendly and helpful but there were a few unpleasant surprises which made it a less enjoyable experience. In particular the bill was wrong which was annoying as the prices were already high. I came with a group. My friends ordered steaks, I ordered mac and cheese. The mac and cheese had quite a lot of chilli in it (which wasnt mentioned as an ingredient on the menu). It was too spicy for me. Also they offered us water at the beginning and we assumed it would be tapwater but it was bottled still water costing £4.90, which we found out when it was added to the bill at the end. However, the most annoying surprise was that our bill had an unexpected arithmetic error. The subtotal (before the service charge was applied) was printed as seven pounds more than it should have been. When we discussed this with our waiter at first they said it was the service charge, but that hadnt been added at that point. They then said that the menu must have different prices from the computer used for billing (which also doesnt make sense as the itemized prices were correct). I suggest that anyone dining at this restaurant adds up the individual items on the bill and checks that the subtotal is correct.
Definitely did not expect such a stunning steakhouse in cambridge. The steak was delicious with side of sour b and chocolate orange. Definitely try the cocktails. Great people.
Absolutely loved this place! Best steak Ive ever had!
Booked a birthday meal here and they refused to allow me to bring our own birthday cake for the event. Never had this from any other restaurant before. So I cancelled.
The perfect place for wonderful food. I loved it so much! Try the lobster Mac n Cheese, its to die for.
My husband and I went for our 4 year anniversary, the atmosphere was romantic and clean, our food was incredibly prepared it was worth every penny, we shared a cheese cake at the end that was impeccable, Marco and Gian Carlo not only provided great service but they were a good addition and they added to the experience, we will definitely go back one day.
The potatoes are perfectly made. Crispy on the outside, soft inside. The cream brulee is their best dish.
Great food... The fillet steak was so perfectly cooked I have to guess it was sous vide and the. Reverse seared because it was the uniform pink I thought I was dreaming. This was a Christmas meal and all of the courses were top notch (but the fillet steak main was a star). The bar staff were patient, attentive and speedy in serving this rambunctious bunch of tech professionals,l. The wait staff took photos, laughed along with our bad jokes and generally kept us moving through the evening, helped us out while being otherwise invisible in the way that the best waiters are (but arent recognised for). Ive been here for regular meals, and now for a work do, and would highly recommend for someone who wants a tasty steak night that feels more premium than the final bill would have you believe.
Had a work Christmas party last night, service was aweful we were there an hour before food was served and no drinks orders were taken. The food was over cooked, veg mushy and meat dry. My husband had the steak and it was very well done. My biggest complaint was I ordered a non alcoholic cocktail and an alcoholic cocktail was brought, the staff made out it was my fault and didnt refund the drink. I asked for no brandy cream on my Christmas pudding again to avoid alcohol and it came out without anything, no ice cream or anything after sitting under the lights in the kitchen drying it out. Weve eaten here a few times and this was the worst experience Ive ever had. I was planning to have afternoon tea as a gift next year, will not be doing that now.
Third time we have been, went this time for our staff xmas party. Super busy in there, and food was still just as amazing as every other time we have been. Service was quite quick, cocktails were really good. Atmosphere was great. Parking: No immediate parking so plan ahead for at least a 5/10min walk depending on where you can park
Came here for dinner to celebrate my Grandfathers birthday. At first, everything seemed to be going fine, starters were acceptable. However, when the Tomahawk we ordered arrived, we were shocked to find out it was about 70% fat. We are steak lovers, having eaten tomahawks at different restaurants around the world, this is the first time that a tomahawk had more fat than actual edible meat. It was 84 pounds, for mostly fat which could not be eaten. Not a value for money at all. Nonetheless, others we ordered such as lamb leg and lobster were acceptable. Hence, will not be back to this restaurant that is serving non-value steak for a premium price, especially for another important event to avoid disappointment.
Fantastic food. Best service Ive had in Cambridge
