For a more casual meal, the Tyee Pub serves hearty comfort food in a casual atmosphere. Enjoy a frosty brew or cocktail and views of Discovery Passage while you talk over the day events.
We came here due to the fact that most restaurants in Campbell River are closed on Monday nights. I was cautious about their 3.4 star rating but felt it was a better choice than fast food. We were wrong. The menu was extremely limited and the prices were unbelievably expensive. We ordered our food and it came to us within 5-6 minutes which I thought was oddly quick. Once I took my first bite of the burger I realized why kitchen service was so fast. IT WAS MICROWAVED!! I can’t prove this but it seems to be the logical conclusion. This pub is probably one of the worst dining options in Campbell River, even below A&W. I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 because our server was pleasant and the view is amazing.
View is beautiful, we had a nice but inexperienced server who forgot to give us plates, cutlery, and napkins. The sea food platter was inedible, over cooked salmon, rubbery breaded calamari which was also advertised as “grilled squid” and the most foul smelling rubber clams. You would expect fresh sea food from a fishing lodge however everything here is re heated from being pre cooked frozen. Waste of money as drinks were also mediocre and expensive. Spent around $200 for the worst food i’d ever had, we left and ate at a different restaurant because we couldn’t eat the food. The only positive was the server who seemed to be embarrassed by the food.
An empty plate is all you need to know, really. Food was great. The view was too. Lovely grounds. I can’t imagine staying at some generic comfort inn downtown instead of this place.
*Photos taken with an iPhone. The Tyee Pub is a definite stop if travelling through, or stopping in beautiful Campbell River . Located at the gorgeous Painters Lodge , on the North end of Campbell River as you exit highway 19 Northbound. ( 1625 McDonald road, Campbell River ) Craving something from the Sea for lunch , we ordered the “Tyee Burger” and “Cod gyro your way”. The salmon was cooked to perfection , as in NOT over-done. Ask for extra napkins because it is a bit drippy ! Came with perfect lava hot fries. ( not the best pics of the burger ) Cod gyro your way , also very good . Cod was cooked to perfection , NOT over-done. Only imperfection was that the pita was a little dry and hard . The service was outstanding ! The views , well the views are absolutely incredible. We sat inside only because there was a little rain coming down. We will be definitely sitting outside on the patio next time . Will stop here again if passing through . Definitely a 4.5⭐️ out of 5⭐️ experience .
The was beautiful and the food smelled delicious. My group came here just to have a drink so I can't speak to the quality of the food, but overall pretty nice!
The location and view can't be beat. We were seated on the patio and got to look at the beach for our meal. The server was nice, the food and drinks were okay, but a bit pricey for pub food.
Our party of 6 were seated near the rear of the restaurant despite it being empty except for another table. For a Saturday night we were surprised at the lack of patrons. The service was extremely slow considering how few patrons were dining here. We started with the creole shrimp appetizer (which was the only palatable item we ordered) and the caprese salad (which was basically Costco's mozzarella cheese sliced with a few cherry tomatoes with a drizzle of Nona's balsamic dressing). Our main entrées were overpriced and poorly executed. We had the rib steak (very tough, lacked flavour) which was not worth $45. A Keg steak will seem like filet mignon in comparison to this cut. We also had the seafood risotto which was overly salty. The chef should taste all of the food before serving. For $49, it was outrageous for this quality. The bison pie was also lacking in flavor and the texture was really grainy. On top of this, we were charged an automatic 18% gratuity for no service! I don't recommend coming to this place. It is far from fine dining. Note the pics of food look way better than they tasted (I just happened to have a good camera which makes the dishes appear appetizing).
I was staying at the painted Lodge for one night while in town for work and decided to try out the restaurant downstairs at the hotel. When I arrived at the restaurant a little after 6 p.m. I was the only one in the restaurant as that is the time when they open. I was seated by the window which has a beautiful view of the water and surrounding area where you can watch boats coming and going and see planes landing. The Wait staff was very friendly and allowed me to order my drinks and food items quickly. The waitress had suggested the salmon on the menu was one of her favorites so I tried it out. When the food arrived I was very impressed with the plating Style and serving portions. The fish was cooked perfectly but I was a little disappointed with the vegetables accompanying the plate as they seem to have been overcooked or under a heat lamp a little too long. When I mentioned it to my waitress they were very quick to accommodate and with no hesitation took the plate back to the chef and discussed the issue. Within minutes I was brought a new plate of food with updated vegetables that were cooked perfectly. I would definitely check this place out again
We went to the Pub forced by the absence of the restaurant on Monday and Tuesday, for no apparent reason. Once seated we had to wait a geological hour before receiving dishes, despite everything, cold. The fried food is as heavy as the seals you can see from the windows (the only positive note is the view), the salmon is as dry as the desert and not to mention the appetizer, chips with a terrible sauce and frozen cheese. Avoid if possible Parking: Parking near the pub within the logde complex easily accessible on foot from the rooms
Great little bar / pub with a fabulous view out over the waterfront. Service was impeccable and food was delicious.
Fabulous view, especially for outside tables. No local seafood. Menu was conventional, uninspired. Nice but a bit understaffed.
Website said open, sign on door said closed for the season. Rocket science.
Great view. Enjoyed the ribs and calamari.
Youre paying for the view! This patio overlooking the water is one of the best, that being said, the food is subpar. The chowder was thick and did have plenty of fish/seafood but was lacking seasoning. At best, it came across as bland so did the soup-of-the-day. It was a sort of cream of cauliflower with kernels of corn .... also tasteless. The service was good as our waitress was animated. She had a lot of stories about the area as well as previous guests. Really entertaining! The prices were a little high and we would have been okay with that if the food would have been good. Were from the island and like to try different places for lunch/dinner. Even though the view from the patio is spectacular, we wont be back.
Good food and GREAT VIEW! We had 4 meals there and we found things we liked each time. It is also very convenient to have a casual meal option right on premises.
Slow service. Chicken very dry. Forgot to bring my drinks. Fish wash tiny
Food was great and the view is second to none. Wasnt many people in there when we ate so cant really say if the atmosphere gets better later at night.
They were out of 30% of their memo items before dinner really started (5:30) Way short staffed. The server was great but was trying to look after way too many tables.
Went for the gorgeous waterfront view. They were very short staffed and offered a limited menu including a seafood chowder, spicy chicken burger and fish (ling cod) and chips. We asked about the chowder because it can vary depending on your expectations. The server assured Isherwood liked it and the cook confirmed from the bar that it s layered whatever that means. So my husband ordered the $22 size. Our guest ordered the chicken burger not spicy. And I had the one piece fish and chips. The chowder was a huge disappointment - stone soup or prison soup were the descriptors used. Thin buttery onion grey broth with very little seafood and one slice of potato. Chicken burger came with several jalapeños but the f&chips was fine. Too much money spent on less than average food.
Waitress was extremely friendly and tried hard, but there were too few service staff and very long waiting times. Food arrived very staggered and sometimes orders didnt arrive at all, only service and the view saved our visit
Great bar service, Aaron rocks at bartenders!
Not impressed,, service at pub was terrible,, had to flag down other people for service and finally involve manager,, who sat at bar half the time not providing and help to wait staff. Hotel pool broken , even though we called 1 month prior to stay as kids were involved. Still broken.. Honestly not worth the 300.00 bucks a night,, 3 nights prior we stayed at Port Hardy Airport Inn. They were awsome, way older hotel, but the service was top notch. 1700.00 for 2 nights for 2 rooms,, worst waste of money we have ever spent. We Wont be back, we wont recommend to anyone. They really need to re-calculate their serving staff. I have no other words other than to say Unhappy for sure,, how ever the room is beautiful.
Fabulous place, food fantastic
Do not waist your money or time. Horrible service and nothing is working
The view as always is lovely and so nice on a warm summer night. The meal however was an embarassment... I had fish and chips. Chips were fine the fish however was encased in thick batter which was not fully cooked,as a result portion was very greasy. We spoke to our server. No adjustment was made... there will be no repeat visit...
Great food, friendly service, solid beer selection, and perfect oceanside setting.
Decent enough. Average pub fare and great service
Great location and atmosphere on the water Close to Campbell River. Delicious fish and chips but the rest of the menu could stand to be upgraded to more of a seafood line. Service was excellent!
Super good service, super good cuts, I always come here once every two weeks and always love the results. Would 100% recommend to come here, they ll make you feel at home!!
Terrible service and menu needs to evolve. I am really sure that the issue was the lady serving us on Sunday, she was Not charismatic at all... maybe because half of the customers that came to the Legends actually ended up moving over to the Tyee Pub (same deck)... But we stayed... and the experience was not incredible. Food was good, but from a very old style menu that could keep the hotel tradition and still evolve a little. Great view!
Ordered chicken wings/ pretty sure they are just bagged costco wings heated up...ordered medium steak sandwich with cesar salad... got Charcoal overcooked rubber steak on slimey bread/covered in wut looked like mushrooms but not sure..All covered in cold french fries/i didnt order fries....
My wife, sister and I went for a wonderful lunch at the Tyee Pub. Beautiful ocean view and delicious meal, we had burgers and halibut bites. The staff were awesome too, pleasant, fast and friendly.
Couldnt understand why the service took so long--there was no one there. Poor food quality--not fine dining--menu needs updating. Perhaps Chef Ramsay can make a visit to improve the quality of food and service. Not worth the price!
Don t go terrible took forever food was very poor worst truck stop fare not worth the $24 for a steak took two hours to get a salad gone so down hill it s a shame as great view!
Food was mediocre; under seasoned and incredibly greasy. Terrible coffee.
We came in shortly before closing. The entire staff was gracious and kind. Food was standard bar food, but I do highly recommend the mussels and clams as they were outstanding. Drinks were well crafted- especially the old school old fashioned. All in all a really solid choice and I was pleasantly surprised.
I ordered Fish+Chips with a side salad. The Cod was over cooked and burnt but the fries were crisp and delicious. The view was wonderful and the service was exceptional. I appreciate all the hard work everyone has been doing to keep this business running. Although the service was a bit slow (Which I understand) the view and service really made my day.
Absolutely beautiful and great service and delicious food
Really friendly and quick service! Food was delish :-)
I tried the pub part of the restaurant. Food was very good and the view of discovery passage was amazing.
Delightful place.
Dine with a view. The service was prompt and drinks n food were well made :)
Service was sub par, food was sub par. Would not recommend.
Food and views are excellent, although the patio wasnt open during the height of summer tourist season due to staffing issues! Not a good sign!
Although seasonal hours the PUB area is a fantastic place to have a meal or just drinks. You have the option of being outside or inside but both areas offer excellent views of the ocean and in the summer you can watch all the fishing boats come in and check out the days catch by all the sport fisherman. In the evenings the will even supply you with a blanket
Good food, had the Friday night special of prime rib, the apple pie a la mode was over the top
First meal after a 4 day hike so we were hungry. The Saturday night all you can eat seafood buffet was worth every penny. The service was first class. Highly recommended.
Order my food stating that I was in a rush and needed to get work done. It took 55 minutes to bring me the wrong dish. After an hour, my friend had fished his food (overlooked) and they finally brought my dish. My halibut was half the size of my friends and the flavour did not impress me
Amazing view. Awesome brunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
