Mattone Italian Kitchen in Campbell River

Let me start by saying all the staff were wonderful. The food was mediocre ,not bad but not great Italian. For the prices on the menu i would expect full service. Do you want to be a high end restaurant or a cafeteria that has high prices? My fine dining experience does not include going up to the till to order.

They don t offer gift cards.

We had a great dinner tonight at your beautiful setting in Salmon Point. . Just a few things we ordered 4 appies and 4 mains for the table of 4. The food was awesome, nothing to complain, honestly everything was fresh and the flavours are beautiful, thank you for a great dinner. But the only thing that was the issue was, is the corresponding between the serving staff and how to order your food and drink. I was really excited to come down and just have a relaxing evening, but the ordering from the bar part made it less enjoyable. The staff were very polite and were great at their jobs, but the gap I see is the service should have a full interaction with a table so they could also get a greater tip. Thank you for tonight, my review was solely on my experience. But we will definitely be back, that seafood pasta is as the bomb diggity! And their cocktails are fabulous! Thanks again!

Tried Mattones for the first time, and we will be back. Food was delicious, friendly staff and a terrific water front location. Make sure you leave room for Gelato!

I have eaten in this restaurant on several occasions. The location is amazing with all the seats inside having great views of the mountains and ocean. Stunning.there are also several tables on the outside patio. I have tried several items and loved them all. The focaccia bread is so yummy. The Caesar salad is a perfect size. Burgers are huge and delicious.My favourite is the chicken parmigiana. Moist and crispy. So very good. We had our first takeout meal and it was every bit as good when we ate it at home. Chef Ryan and his wife Katrina have done a great job of creating all the items from scratch and delivering a delicious array of options. In my opinion there is real value for the money. We will visit this restaurant on a regular basis. Keep up the good work! Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheelchair ramp and the restaurant is very spacious inside so lots of room to maneuver.

Trendy west coast style interior, and extra cozy with the fire place and winter decor. We love their affogato s! I always get mine with the salted caramel and my husband gets his with the cookie cappuccino.

Food is outstanding and the location is lovely especially in the summer. There is no service however. Go up and order at the bar yourself, pay and go sit and wait. Want more food or drink? Go back up order pay sit and wait. This is a nice restaurant and the prices are set accordingly so I find it difficult when you are presented with the bill to be asked to tip when you as the customer are doing all the work...?

We had a night out recently with 2 other other couples and we were all keen to check out Mattone s new location. WOW! Such a gorgeous, bright clean space. It s very large and open, but still has the charm and warmth of a small family run business. The menu was extensive and we all left My husband raved about the seafood chowder. As someone who grew up in Haida Gwaii, he s really picky about seafood and is usually reluctant to order it in restaurants. I had the super flavourful Caprese Salad and we share Nonna s meatballs. They were amazing! One of our friends had their burger and said it was no joke. We had 2 pieces of Tiramisu. It was DEVINE! Our friends went for the pistachio and white chocolate raspberry ice cream (maybe Gelato?). Anyway, we all left completely stuffed. We had to take some of their homemade focaccia and garlic parm dip home. It didn t even make it 24 hours in our house. Such a wonderful dining experience. We will definitely be back as I m dying to try your pizza!

The scenery is stunning. Sitting right by the window you can see marine life.

It was a very disappointing experience. While the view is spectacular and the environment is clean and bright the rest was a let down. Basically it is a cafeteria, sign saying that you had to wait to be seated. No staff around so we started to walk in before somone noticed us. Orders had to be taken at the counter and you had to pay as you go. A very, very limited menu. Thought a bit pricey for no service. We tried it, loved the spectacular view but will go elsewhere for food and service.

Wow, terrible way to dine, lets line up like high school, but wait 55 minutes for your meal.spent $100 on a meal for 2 And 60 for wine. Not worth it.

After waiting for our food for over an hour we went up to ask where are appetizers were and they just shrugged their shoulders and said they forgot to process the order. They gave no option like speeding the process up to complete the order or any kind of reimbursement.

Nice clean new venue. We were exited to try their pizza but they didnt have pizza dow. Pasta is very expensive, couldnt fathom paying $40.00 for a pasta dish. Felt disappointed for sure.

Went excited to re-experience the mattone magic and unfortunately it just isnt quite the same yet... We got seated within 15 minutes on a busy Saturday which was very reasonable however after ordering at the counter and waiting for an hour .. we were unfortunately let down to find out food was forgotten. The kitchen did a good job to put a rush on our food however the banter in the kitchen bragging about their most covers in one night didnt really feel great after we were not the only ones that did not receive our food...pasta was not cooked. Free bread was kind but coming from a service background the attitude and customer service was not as complimentary as it could have been. Hopefully the customer focus will be next on the menu..

Just had an amazing meal at this beautiful oceanfront restaurant. I had the Autumn Gnocchi and it was heaven, wanted to lick the bowl lol. My husband had the prawn rose pasta and loved it. The pizzas looked fab and I think there is definitely something for everyone. Congratulations to Chef Ryan and his team. Cant wait to go back!

This restaurant has beautiful views across the Strait and the staff were exceptionally friendly. My lunch companion and I had two different pizzas, which were rather bland and without fully melted cheese. The Americanos were nicely presented but not strong enough for my taste. The chairs could definitely use an upgrade as we felt we were sitting in uncomfortable elementary school classroom seats.

Long wait for pick up... no mains after 7pm... Kitchen closed at 8pm.

Fabulous spaghetti and meatballs and the location can t be beat. Although it s counter service right now, the staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is very chill. Decor is so well done with a beachy feel that suits location. Outdoor patio is lovely.

First time here for a family birthday meal. The food was OK at best but very overpriced for portion size, burger and small bowl of fries $30 including taxes, really!! Didnt like the fact that you have to line up at the till to order and pay for your food, we arrived at 6.15pm and stood in line at the till for almost 10 minutes. The building itself is too white and clinical, no atmosphere or ambiance. Why do architects and designers think we want to eat, drink and socialize in space the resembles a warehouse, what happened to warm, relaxing, comfortable spaces to enjoy time with family and friends. Sorry Guys this just didnt work of us.

The dessert! I ordered the Tiramisu which is true, authentic Tiramisu and was the absolute BEST I have ever had! Main course I had the Harvest Gnocchi, which had butternut squash & brussel sprouts, in a tantalizing pesto sauce (I dont even like brussel sprouts) they were a little crispy on the outside and delicious. If I could buy the Pesto to bring home, 10/10 I would! Fine dining quality, fun casual atmosphere with stunning ocean views. Yes, they get very busy, plan accordingly, and you will not be disappointed. I cant wait to come back on my next visit to CR.

The young hostess was professional and very customer friendly. I realize good employees are hard to find here and she certainly stood out as an employee to keep. Such a beautiful view and plenty of wildlife to watch. Food needs work, was good but not worth the price. As a new restaurant, Im sure that will improve.

This is a cafeteria at best / no atmosphere . People standing ordering meals where people are trying to eat at their tables . Paying a minimum of 18% tip before food is even delivered to your table . Want an extra glass of water - GET IT YOURSELF / want an extra napkin or salt & pepper - GET IT YOURSELF . Want some graded cheese on your pasta - YA, NEVER MIND, THERE IS NONE !!! Other than dropping off your food, there is no table service at all !!! Italian food very bland & oily / also check your food when it comes as items are missing during cooking . As a family business, I wish them luck, but they are going to have to pick up their socks if this restaurant is going to survive in Campbell River !!!

We have dined there 4 times now and enjoyed the experience. Great ambiance and a fantastic location .worth the drive from Comox. Not sure why people complain about having to go up to the counter and order your own food. It s tradition to do this in some European countries and was a tradition at the Royal Coachman in Campbell River. After you order drink and food all are served at your table by excellent staff. I m not sure if their decision to do this was due to being short staffed, but I hope it s a style of service the restaurant continues with.

Not really a great first impression. You line up at the counter to place your order, and sit at a numbered table. Ive never been to a restaurant that operated this way and I felt like I was in a cafeteria. I ordered the Gnocchi, which was buried under a pile of Arugula, and drenched in vinagarette. The vinegar totally overpowered the truffle cream sauce ... huge disappointment. Positives; the Owner being out on the floor, helping in every area. You can really see that he is passionate and really cares about his business. Dessert was wonderful, I had the Tirimasu and my company had Gelato (they have lots of homemade flavours). Despite a not so stellar first impression, we will likely return in the future to give them another shot. Some of the dishes we saw going to other tables looked really good!

Update: Went to the new Salmon Point location and once again it was amazing! The pasta was so so good. And we grabbed some pints of gelato to bring home. We ll definitely be back. Amazing experience. Went for dinner recently and the service was top notch and the food was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the thought out menu, delicious wine and the atmosphere was great. Definitely plan on coming back again.

Waited 40 minutes for chicken parm. Everyone else in my party ate and had Gelato.. still no food. Management didnt seem to care when I mentioned it to them. When I asked to cancel my order, they just told me to go see the cashier. Pretty view of the bay.

Beautiful location, tons of potential. Place orders yourself cafe style, which is super awkward considering the size and atmosphere. Drove from town after calling, when we got there we were told they were only serving appetizers. Kind of lame for a Friday in August at 7pm.

We were hoping for lunch on the patio, but unfortunately they re not dog friendly. We just ended up getting a gelato to go. Best waffle cones we ve had though!

Positives: - beautiful location, patio offers beautiful views - the food was nice, absolutely no complaints Negatives: - the biggest complaint is the waiting time. We arrived at 4.30 pm, the patio was full, but the inside was still quite empty. Having to wait for the main dish is ok. But we had to wait around 45 minutes to get it. And the worst was still to come. We ordered desserts, tiramisu and cheesecake. In the meantime, the restaurant got really packed. However, the desserts are ready to serve, they are displayed in a fridge close to the entrance. But it took them more than 40 minutes (!) to put them on a plate and bring them to the table. Apart from the fact it s bad for their business if a table is blocked for such a long time, the waiting time was way over the normal tolerance. We left the restaurant again at 6.45! - the lasagna is served in an aluminium plate, which is not very nice. Stoneware bakers would be a much better choice. - there were just 2 choices for kids: buttered spaghetti and cheese pizza

I was here with my family, we sat outside and the view was really beautiful! After deciding what to eat we ordered (its self-service). We waited around 45min until we got our food. But it was definetely worth it! The food was great I will not complain I had the Cabonara. After we finished we wanted to eat a desert so we had to order again. We had to wait another 45min until our desert arrived. The desert was good tho but 45min is crazy. I dont know how they manage there orders but serving already prepared desert 45min later is a shame. Me as an employee working in a restaurant have to say that in our restaurant deserts always have priority because there fast to prepare! Overall its an okay restaurant the view is nice, they have good food but way to long waitingtimes.

Came to check out Mattone on a friday night and could tell they were super busy but they gave us the heads up the wait for food was going to be about 45 minutes. We had no issues waiting as we could tell it was extremely busy. The food was well worth the wait, simply delicious. Went back for lunch a few days later and it was 10/10 !!

The view was awsome. We sat on the patio, meters from the water. Food delivered direct to table, after ordering at the bar. Service staff very friendly & efficient. The food was exceptional. This was overall a restaurant that is more then worth calling a favorite.

My family and I went on Saturday, right at open. It was quiet of course as it was early but the atmosphere and decor of the entire place was very welcoming. We sat outside along the water view and it was very nice. We all ordered different meals; clam chowder, margarita pizza, bacon cheddar burger, Ceasar salad and the focaccia bread. Everyone s food was amazing (especially the pizza and focaccia) and were so excited that it was too filling and we got to take the rest home it was quite cool that the chef was walking around and all of the staff were super friendly and helpful. We re not local so we won t be able to come here much unfortunately but are looking forward to our next trip and the future of this place! Next time we ll have to make room for the gelato to get the full experience

The setting, views, interior and vibe are great. Unfortunately the food doesnt match up, the mains are okay, very average, so a little overpriced for the quality. But again, those views...!

I went for lunch with a group of ladies on Thursday. The waiter came out 4 times before getting our orders straight. The meatballs were delicious. My husband and I were looking forward to trying the lasagne and gnocchi for my birthday dinner Sunday. The gnocchi was cold and neither of the dishes were tasty. Why the difference?

First time at this restaurant. My friend and I both had the seafood chowder with garlic toast added. It was absolutely divine. The very best chowder I have ever eaten. It was a warm and sunny mid-September, we sat out side overlooking the water, distant islands and coastal mountains. What a fabulous place for lunch!

Our family went there , clearly dont want kids in there as they only had a chicken strip option! Had to pay $30 for our grandaughter to have spegetti and $4 for one small Slice of garlic bread that we waited 15 extra minutes for after our food arrived and had to ask twice where it was ! And being an italian restaurant, pasta should come with fresh grated Parmesan on it out of the kitchen !! When I asked for it the waitress told me she would have to charge me for it !!! Are you serious, I just paid $30 dollars for my very plain tasting chicken mushroom alfredo. Hopefully this place gets it together sooner then later

The new place is great, I cant wait to see it after the official opening! As for the soft opening, brought my extended family by while they were in town and had a great experience. We paid ~$280CAD for 9 entrees, a couple of apps, and several drinks. As far as restaurants go, thats damn reasonable for good, legit restaurant food and were delighted by the service. Everyone is all smiles and seems excited for the big opening!

Last time I was in CR I had the pleasure of picking up Mattone for lunch from the original location and I was thrilled to see that they were having their soft opening while I was in town at their new stunning location in Salmon point and it did NOT disappoint! Everything from the delicious food, pleasant staff and of course the beautiful view was top notch! I can t wait to come back when they are fully open and have drinks and dinner on the patio while watching the sunset. You really can t beat this location and think it s an amazing addition to this community!

Been to Mattone in Willow Point many times (admittedly mostly for gelato) and am so pleased that they have opened a sit-down restaurant. Arrived at their new location at Salmon Point and the views alone are worth a visit the food just makes it better! They are currently having a soft opening. Was very clear and easy how to place our order and get ourselves a table, and you can see how it will all be set up once they fully open. We decided to eat inside for dinner and then move to the outdoor patio area with gelato later. Ordered the artichoke pasta and my friend had the chicken parm. We cleaned our plates! Grabbed our Mario s gelato (this Vancouver girl s favourite) and went outside to enjoy the gorgeous views and best gelato around. Awesome to have a great local restaurant to go to and I ll be continuing to visit as they figure out their new location. Have never left a Google review before but needed to after hearing that they have been receiving poor reviews due to complaints about their VERY well publicized soft opening. Good luck to Chef Ryan and all the staff! I ll definitely be back (yes, particularly for the gelato)! Vegetarian options: The artichoke pasta was very good! Just the right amount of spice.

We visited on opening day at Salmon Point, the burger and chicken burgers were fantastic. Love the new location. Staff were super friendly and very clear we were visiting in their soft opening stage. I do hope for a few cost effective kids meal options once your full menu is up. We look forward to coming back.

You have to order at the counter which seemed strange for such a large nice restaurant, maybe they have plans to do table service in the future? The food was excellent and fairly priced, The atmosphere is beyond beautiful, however The service staff could use some more customer service training.

We ordered chicken strips on the side with a caesar salad and a pizza for take out. We made a point of confirming that there wld be three chicken strips. We received 2 chicken strips and lukewarm, limp, and very salty fries unfortunately we discovered that only when we sat down to eat.

Very happy with the food, beautiful view from the patio, currently you order at the counter and they do delivery to your table. Prices were as expected. As a local we will be going again and again. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramps in and ramps to outside patio.

Very disappointing. There is no table service and the seating is limited for a regular table. No one ever came to the table and asked how our meal was. I had the Greek Burger Bowl for $26 which was a very small dried out over cooked hamburger patty without bun on a green salad. How anyone could charge $26 for that is insane. My wife had a Fully loaded Hamburger and a few fries for $26. It was very average at best. Total with out tip $55.65. Did I forget they dont have a liquor license and no tea? You have to get your own water. This was a complete rip off. I suspect they may last a couple of months but I already see sign of bankruptcy coming. This is a restaurant with a known customer base that has moved its location to Salmon Point. I understand that it was a Soft Opening BUT serving a small overcooked hamburger patty on a little bit of lettuce for $26 is just going to drive people away. I have lived in the Comox Valley for 40 years and look forward to new restaurants. This is a BUST and will not be back. Parking: Parking is the best feature

It was good! Good experience and good food. The only thing that truly takes away from atmosphere was the terrible rock music. Its a beautiful oceanside restaurant with more to come and hearing take me down to paradise city made me want to leave all the sooner. Just didn t suit and took it from an easy 5 star down to 3.

Feta salad tastes like nothing but vinegar. Atmosphere zero, big, industrial feel inside and plastic benches outside. meh... sure, location is awesome.. not a lot of options for a vegetarian.

Honestly, it was just great. Best burger, fries, focaccia bread, and Caesar salad we have had in a long time! Staff were very friendly and delightful. Kudos to the chef!

We have had take out from here twice in the last month and had lunch on the beautiful patio today at this excellent restaurant. We have had 13 of the menu items with all of excellent quality and delicious. Highlights have included the chicken parmesan, grilled artichoke pasta and cheddar bacon burger with shoestring fries. The starters including fresh in house focaccia and Nona s meatballs are fantastic. Portions sizes are generous. And to finish, it is a real treat having an awesome affagato in a glass on a patio with a superb view. This place is a gem and I can t wait to go back!

Six of us enjoyed dinner tonight all trying different things. We all agreed that it was one of the best meals we have ever had! Gorgeous desert too. Great atmosphere and a view of the ocean. We will be back for sure.

Its in a beautiful location right by the water with a great outdoor patio. I went with guests for ice cream cones yesterday at about 7 pm. They had no cones left (disappointing), so we had the one scoop cups. Ice cream was delicious but serving size is small. Noise level was very high inside which has us thinking we most likely wouldnt choose this as a place to have dinner. Take out pizza is what well try next.

Two very small scoops of gelato in a stale cone. For ten dollars I would have expected at least a waffle cone .

Food is good, sauce was tasty, they sell a a nice focaccia. Next I ll try the gelato. They got a lot of flavors. I think it s family operated which is also cute. They counter the coldness of takeout only post restrictions by having it be a little Italian store too. So you can grab some to go s to cook in oven later or some raw materials and make your own.

We got a take and bake pepperoni pizza and it was the best take and bake pizza Ive ever had! The crust is so insanely good!

Ordered our food for take-out (this is the only option), the cook kept mean mugging me while cooking/prepping food making me and my wife uncomfortable. The almost $30 mushroom chicken alfredo tasted like it was worth $10, not to mention the small size of the meal. The chicken burger was good, but $17 for a Good burger isnt great. Either way, wouldnt come back due to the overpriced meals. I dont regret eating here, but there are better, cheaper meals to be had elsewhere.

I know this place never gets a one star because the food is just so great! But this happen to me today Dec 22 2022 at around 6.30- 7.00. My friend and I called them 3 times to order take out and they did not pick up, they were really busy thats understandable. So we make our way to the restaurant to order my favorite hot honey wings as its 1/2 price on Thursday. The girl who was at the entrance asked us to choose what we wanted and went off to help other customers. We kept waiting there for a good 20 mins and she comes back and seats everyone coming in taking them to their chairs, she never even asked us if we were ready, I then tell her we are ready to order she says - yes I am going to seat them first and continued to seat everyone, I again finally ask her how long its going to take before she can take our order so we can go sit in our car to wait. She says WELL ITS GOING TO TAKE AN HOUR FOR YOUR FOOD IF YOU STILL WANT TO WAIT She says this after making us stand at the door for 30 mins . Thats really really bad customer service. She could have atleast told us this at the beginning so we could have made our mind to leave or ordered and waited in our car. Ive always loved this place! Had a great office Christmas party there. But today it just felt horrible to wait so long just to hear her say it so rudely that we will have to wait to order plus wait another hour for our food. Dont get me wrong, Waiting for food is ok, but just inform your clients when they enter, how long its going to take.

Over rated and over priced with smaller portions. Service was iffy, waitress forgot our appy until almost end of meal, waited 20 minutes for glass of water then not refilled, then she complained that tip was not enough, that they do 18% as opposed to the 13% that was left...(we left a flat amount, didnt do the math) . Wont be back.

Been coming to mattones since they opened. Menu is affordable for the quality. I really enjoyed their risotto.

Went there tonight to celebrate a birthday with a group of 10, the food was amazing, everyone was extremely happy with the food. The service was absolutely fantastic. We were very pleased with the whole experience

Was there for my wife Christmas party. The food was amazing, the service was great. That bartender Taylor was a rock star, he made some amazing drinks that I didn t know I would like. He sold us the best shot I have ever tasted in my life. We are definitely coming back to sit at the bar and explore more of the restaurant. Highly recommended Edit: I heard that that that bartender that did a great job had his tips stolen from him Then got fired Explains why since then that you re so popular but have staffing issues as we always wait a long long time for our food. Disappointing to hear the owner doesn t know how to treat his staff

Mattone was our go to date spot when they were open for Dine In. Although we miss heading there for a sit down meal we really enjoy the takeout menu as well as the options in the coolers. The burgers are substantial and very well priced and you could easily share the chicken parm sandwich. Highly recommend!

Great atmosphere and great staff, icecream was super yummy

My partner and I got some grab-and-go pasta from Mattone last week, wanting to try something from the place after all the glowing reviews wed heard. Long story short, the pasta was meh. Not bland, but not wholly well seasoned either. Noodles were perfectly cooked, which is a rarity in cold/frozen takeaway pastas. Frankly, we were a bit disappointed. That was until we had some of their frozen desserts. The chocolate gelato my partner had was amazing, and my watermelon sorbet was so refreshing. Capping that off with the friendly staff made it a pleasure to stop by. If youre in the Willow Point area, looking for a place to grab a slightly classier bit of Italian take-out (looking at you, Dominos), maybe stick to their pizzas, or better yet, get the gelato. Dietary restrictions: As a lactose intolerant individual, the sorbet was a life saver for me, and better yet it was so good I didnt miss the gelato.

First time buying Gelato and Sorbet here. The staff was friendly and he made it easier to decide what flavor to choose. Tiramisu and pistachio tasted good. The watermelon and orange sorbet tasted refreshing. The pizza was great. We tried the pack of foccacia bread and parmesan dip. It was a great combination. Will probably visit again if I go to Campbell River next time.

I really wanted to like Mattones. The concept is a good one, the execution is severely lacking. I grew up with Cioffis and Bosas in N. Burnaby. The food, service and selection is unparalleled at those establishments that are alluded to in Mattones About page. At Mattones, I ordered one slice of Marguerita pizza (one of the choices I was offered by the cashier) and was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. I was clear, I didnt have long because I had a dog waiting in the car with me. After 25 minutes and four check-ins by me, including with the owner, I was given a slice of vegetable pizza. This was not the type of pizza I ordered, it had far too much cheese, a few vegetables and was average. I also purchased the focaccia, which I was told was baked today. It was dry. Fortunately, I bought the Parmesan dip to go with it and that made it palatable. When I ordered, I gave a 17%+ tip. Not clear what the tip was for. Nothing was offered to make up for my time or me receiving the wrong order. Mattones clearly has some kinks to work out. Communication between the front of house and the kitchen is very poor. Communication with customers is even worse. Dont waste your time or money.

I have had the pleasure of dining at Mattones quite a few times since they have opened. The food is fantastic and flavourful, great potions! Love the share plates and pizzas for larger tables or a date night. The cocktails are on point! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, with great recommendations for wine pairings or just simply helping navigate the menu. And if you arent too full after your meal the Tiramisu is MUST!

We had a dinner there a few nights ago and recieved wonderful service! Im vegan and their vegan pizza was delicious! They also had a vegan dessert, which I was surprised about (restaurants dont normally have vegan desserts). It was all so delicious, I wanted more! We will definitely come back next time we are in town.

Mattone is a wonderplace for a special lunch. Everything is freshly made. Burger was juicy. Seafood chowder is the best Ive had in Campbell River. It contains good chunks of fish, scallops, mussels and shrimp. Winter salad with pumpkin and beets was delicious. Even the pretty dishware adds to the experience.

Haven t been there for an evening visit for the Italian food but have heard lots of good stuff. We went today for the burgers. Between 12-3pm(Tues-Sat) they operate as Burger Shop 920. This could easily be a stand alone restaurant based on what we had today. Juicy burgers, perfectly seasoned on delicious buns accompanied by perfectly done fries made from the best (Kennebec) potatoes. Do yourself a favour and check this place out, it is hands down the best burger joint in CR

What a wonderful dinner! Everything was so flavorful and delicious! We left with full bellies and will absolutely be going back. 100% recommend

I had garlic prawns to start. They were good and had a great zesty citrus finish that I really liked. I had spaghetti and meatballs as my main. It was tasty and pretty standard fare. I have also had the oven pizza via takeout before and most of the rest of my party ordered one version or another on this occasion. I found it good when I had it for takeout but this night it looked a little lacking in toppings. I do plan to try this place again. 3/17/22 - went here again and had the deep fried Ravioli to start. It was a little dry. The filling was okay and the marinara was awesome but the ranch underneath tasted like it was out of a bottle. Main was the seafood linguine and the seafood was cooked perfectly and the flavour was amazing but the pasta was overcooked and a little mushy. I wanted to let the waitress know but she never actually asked so I just let it go. This is a good restaurant but they have a couple of things they could improve upon. I was there on the 12th.

Ive done both dine in and take out and this place is fantastic. Absolutely love the chicken parm and their tiramisu is fantastic. One of the best restaurants here in Campbell River.

Fried Ravioli was positively amazing

After grabbing one of their burgers to go a couple of months ago, we have been looking forward to trying other dishes from this restaurant. For a starter we had the fried ravioli it was very tasty, and somthing I had never had before. For our mains we had; the prawn and scallop linguini, pasta was fresh seafood was cooked nicely. We also had the steelhead risotto, which was very impressive. The risotto was packed full of flavor and the char on the steelhead gave a nice crunch. I highly recommend the steelhead risotto. Overall the experience was good, friendly service, good food and fair prices. We will be back.

Came for my 39th birthday and was just blown away by the excellent service, attentiveness of staff, and great food. As a son of Italian immigrants who grew up very closely connected to our culture and cuisine, I could not recommend Mattone more strongly.

Our same day reservation was accommodated, appies came super quick, and everything was delicious. First visit in the summer was great but this was definitely even better. Alisa s attentiveness, yet relaxed and friendly service, didn t hurt either.

Absolutely delicious. Good atmosphere and menu. I enjoyed the lamb shank special and a number of appetizers. I will return to try their steak and pizza, which I noticed were popular orders.

I ve been a few times in the evening for dinner and once for a burger for their lunchtime menu. I ve always had such a great experience there, both with food and the staff. One waitress made a big deal about what my partner and I were celebrating one particular night (he had just finished his first year of post secondary education as a mature student) and it just made the night really special for us!! Their pasta and sauce is incredible and they always cook the meat to perfection. It is a little a bit on the pricier side for dinner, so we usually save it as our go-to celebration spot, but it s worth every penny. I took myself on a lunch date recently and the chicken burger was so juicy and flavourful, I can t wait to try their new brunch menu (and everything else!)

The food is delicious. I got the steak and it was definitely something I would order again and again. The menu could use a little more variety but we were happy with our selections tonight! The ambiance feels like not Campbell River which is what we were looking for. Thank you Mattone for a lovely evening.

Great food and great enjoyable staff.

It s a shame I have to do this because all I have done since moving to CR is support local. The food is good and this rating is not due to food but it about the priorities of the business. If you make a booking for 6pm I recommend you place a take order at 5:30 and collect it at 6pm then take a seat and eat it. We sat and watched a full restaurant waiting well over an hour to be served a main meal as the take orders flew out the door! And then it was only 4 meals for the restaurant. Not only take orders but let s make lots of bread to send out to the tables to kept them happy! Not good enough. Be a take away restaurant or a dine in restaurant because your not organised well enough to be both! Sorry but it s the truth. And it has nothing to do with the excuses of Covid or staff shortages .. Disappointing and another hard sell to the tourism market that we sell and cater too.

Loved the food and ambitious

Went for lunch and had the southern fried chicken burger.... it was so good ( crispy yet juicy ) we had to return the next evening for dinner. Not only was the food amazing, (I had the lobster risotto and it was melt in your mouth delicious ) but the service was top notch. I would recommend to everyone... you won t be disappointed.

Service 10/10, my server was fabulous, she even gave us a free dessert for our anniversary, the food 10/10, but honestly, the ambiance/atmosphere is 4/10. Thought it would have a fancy feel but it didn t. Music was a little loud, tables too close and it really didn t have an Italian vibe. I couldn t have a conversation with someone 2 feet away from me. I ate around 6 so perhaps it becomes more intimate later in the evening. Great food though! Finally a good pizza in CR!

The food here is absolutely perfect if you like a hardy meal. They also have a wonderful selection of salads if you d want a light meal. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this establishment . We brought my our aunt here who were visiting in Campbell river and the kitchen staff were more than helpful when it came to her dairy allergy. Margaret was our server and she made the whole experience absolutely priceless . We adore her and hope she is here in Spring upon our return . I wish I could give this place more stars than five . The whole experience made us want to come back here ritually upon our visits . Thank you Margaret !!!! We loved you!!!

We went here for our anniversary last year and we loved it so much we had to come back this year! We went last night and our server, Margret, was an absolute delight. We both had a pasta dish as we knew they make their pasta and sauces in house. My husband got a wonderful artichoke pasta and I got an incredibly flavourful seafood pasta. Neither dishes disappointed. Treat yourself to either the tiramisu or the sticky toffee pudding (or both) you truly won t regret it. We love everything about this place, the food, the service, and the ambiance. Thanks again for making our anniversary that much more special!

We had an excellent meal here. Our waitress, Laura, was charming and efficient. Shared plates: olives, arancini, and caprese salad - all delicious and fresh. Flavourful options all. Some menu options were not available but it was still a great meal. The butternut squash risotto was a highlight. I d eat here again.

Visiting Campbell River from Australia, Mattone Italian Kitchen is an exceptional dining experience. Chef Ryan and his team create revelatory taste sensations. Personal favourite is the arancini balls, the pesto is to die for. Fantastic atmosphere, great service, lovely staff. Highly recommended.

the best lamb shanks I have had in a restaurant in many years

I had food at this establishment before & it was delicious. When my friend invited to come to Mattones for a Halloween dance last night I wasnt expecting to see this place so hyped up! Friendly atmosphere, great staff, safe environment & the DJ totally CRUSHED IT with the music. I had such a blast last night!! Thanks Mattones!!

My partner and I have always enjoyed Mattone Italian Kitchen. This was our 3rd time and we had 6pm reservations and were both looking forward to a night away from the kids. Unfortunately the 2 women who were serving all the tables must have forgotten about us as we waited 30 mins at least till we got water(brought to us by the hostess) and then another 10mins till we had our drink order taken! Very surprised by the service. We had to watch 3 tables seated after us get drinks and appetizers before us. Very frustrating and well to be honest we both love the food so did not eat prior to coming big mistake this night as the service was bad and the food took forever. I got up and left and walked home to relive the babysitter and my husband brought the food home in the car! Not sure yet if I will return. Perhaps I ll feel different in the morning.

We tried to get a reservation for wifes BD. Told to do it online but no success, twice with the same result. Called direct to phone# and we were told they only take res on line. Asked to make res for me, they would not. We went elsewhere

Food was awesome we visited this past Saturday. I had the steak and wife had the lobster risotto. Steak was awesome great portion. Lobster risotto was delicious wished the tail was a bit bigger then then one she recieved but all in all great place with awesome food.

Casual Italian dining with great service and amazing food that reminded us of when we were in Italy. We had the olives with the best focaccia bread(homemade) and harvest tomato salad with mozzarella Buffalo cheese seasoned just right. The white wine paired perfectly with the fresh pasta with clams followed by a great tiramisu. Would recommend to anyone and can t wait to go back.

It is so nice to have a new amazing quality restaurant in Campbell River! We have been impressed with everything we ve tried but I have to say, the steelhead was one of the best dishes I ve had in a long time.

Food and service was amazing

Made a reservation that isn t easy to do in the first place. Finally got in on September 7 and then they call to cancel because they need to go on holidays!!! Normally you know weeks up front you go on holidays and in that time frame you do not take any reservations. Really disappointed by the service and the way they deal with customers.

A bit short staffed . Veal piccata was not great. Carbonara always very good tho

Amazing food! I had pretty high expectations and they were all surpassed for each course. Really delicious! Loved sitting at the bar and talking with the staff, and watching them make yummy cocktails. Root beer and Makers Mark float for the win!

Loved everything about this place.

The food is top-notch. My husband and I brought good friends for dinner tonight, and I have to say that its just too loud. Friday night I know, but when you can barely hear people from across the same table, it does affect the dining experience. There was more balance when the restaurant had the in-between table walls, more privacy. The service was very underwhelming, I dont think we will return very soon.

We had the best time at Mattone, our server she was wonderful and made the experience what it was, a memorable great time. Then there was the food, prawn and scallop linguine like I have never had before with layers of flavour and perfect noodles. The pizza was to die for, the clam linguine was the best my wife had tasted. One of the specials was a rolled lasagna and it was top notch! Then there was the desserts the sticky toffee pudding and pumpkin cheese we all shared and loved with the Espresso, America-no coffee and special coffee a perfect ending. There was live music and even though it was full, the time between courses was reasonable. This is a must do restaurant highly recommended and don t forget to get a reservation.

Very nice experience. Went we first came on, the place was pretty busy. We were offered a seat at the bar where the open kitchen is. It is absolutely amazing to see everyone cooking and ohhh my god, the food is delicious!! From Appies to the main course, incredibly good! Staff is amazing.

My wife and I celebrated our 40 th wedding anniversary at Mattone on Saturday October 16, 630 pm reservation .. From when we arrived the whole experience was ist class fantastic. Thank you to all the staff for making our evening simply wonderful. I will spread the news ,and we will be back soon .

Best experience from start to finish! The service and food are top notch. Highlights included the chicken wings, scallop and prawn linguine, and the tiramisu. Melt in your mouth amazing. The garlic Parmesan dip is something you will want to eat with a spoon. I want to say though the service made it above and beyond the best dining experience I have had in a very long time.

Checked it out last night - awesome! It hit all the high notes. They squeezed us in last minute. Excellent food. Good service from happy and nice staff. Terrific menu. Tasty caesar to drink. And bonus live music. So good we booked a table next weekend. My new favourite place. YAY!

Took 20 minutes to get our drinks ordered and served to us, pasta tasted like packaged ramen noodles, severely overpriced, atmosphere lacked ambiance (underwhelming), felt more like a dining hall, servers were friendly. Not worth the hype unfortunately.
