Was very happy with the experience, great sushi and friendly service!
Sushi is one of my favorite meals, and I eat it weekly in different places around the world as I travel for work. Although the chefs were working hard and the place was busy, unfortunately the ingredients did not taste fresh (even if they were), the rice was dry, and consistency of the pieces were chewy and rubbery. Sorry, it was a miss for me.
They have a gluten free menu! Lots of great choices. The quality of the sushi was top notch 👌 Well priced as well!
Had a great experience here; I attended with my wife and 2 children, my uncle and aunt, and my cousin with his wife. Myself, my kids, and wife are all from England visiting my Canadian relatives. Eh! The food was fresh and tasted good and the service was excellent. We ordered several dishes each and shared them; my standout dish being the volcano rolls but everything was great. I was warned by my aunt that it wasn't the cheapest restaurant however I found the price to be more than fair even with a tip applied. I look forward to visiting again although it won't be for a few years until I visit Canada again.
Best sushi in town, extremely fresh and worth the price!! The service is always fantastic, and very personable. Also, very happy with some of the changes lately, like opening for Lunch, and the fun insight to the team on Facebook. I would give 6 stars if I could!
This is by far the best sushi in Campbell River! Food is fresh and prepared with great care by a seasoned Japanese chef. I hear he has 30 years experience. One thing though, is make sure you get a reservation as they are a small business with only a few staff, and do tend to get a lot of takeout orders. We popped in around 5:30 PM on a Friday evening and they courteously let us in, but we realized it would’ve worked better for them if we had given them some advance notice. Enjoy!
Wasabyia exceeded our expectations! We ordered several appetizers and sushi rolls. The presentation was beautiful and the service was excellent. I haven’t had sushi this fresh in a long time! We don’t live in Campbell river, but they are certainly worth the drive from the Comox Valley. 10/10!
Love the food here but it's a small space and the food comes out all at different times which drives me batty. My Kashi was gorgeous but took almost and hour
Price was very high for what we ordered, rolls were very small, first time eating from this restaurant and won t recommend it! Dissatisfied and disappointed
Consistently fantastic sushi, every time. Fresh, quality cuts of fish that arent hidden behind a blanket of sauces.
Money well spent. Best in Town.
Probably the best japanese food north of Victoria. Real crab is standard...artificial is an option. Very fresh and authentic. Japanese chefs and they know their stuff.
Needs more seating
My partner and i decided to try another Japanese restaurant that wasn t domo japan or sushi wara. We both ordered Teriyaki beef Donburi. He ended up receiving chicken teriyaki instead. The beef was sliced so thick it was like biting into a steak. The bean sprouts were crunchy. The gyoza was so squishy & oily it was impossible to pick up with their plastic chopsticks so I managed to get some wooden ones. Won t be coming back here . maybe the other stuff on their menu is better. Waitress was nice. Food was not.
Always a wonderful meal when we visit. Delicious, fresh and beautifully plated. Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my allergies, and made sure there was no cross contamination.
Very good sushi
Such a great little place. Best sushi in town bar none. Make sure you reserve and order ahead as its the hottest place in town!
As always Wasabiya was both delicious and the food was attractively plated. Wasabiya is a cut above. Excellent covid protocol follow up.
Best sushi I ve had in 14 years in the Comox Valley!
A quaint small town feel restaurant with very friendly staff! Service was amazing, very fast and always checking in. The food was very delicious with nice presentation!
Best Sushi anywhere in Western Canada.
Nice meal. Friendly service. Upon arrival we thought the business was closed because it had a closed appearance. But we had a nice meal until 8 p.m
My family was thrilled to be served authentic Japanese meal initially but when we saw that we were charged $2.5 per head for the green tea we werent impressed, thus the 4 stars. Most if not all Japanese restaurants include free green tea and we were not told that the tea wasnt free. I would return for the good food, just not impressed by the tea incident.
We never felt so rushed in ordering our food. The 4 of us no sooner sat down and the waitress asked for our food order. When I mentioned we would like to have a drink first before our meal she said she had to keep everything moving. All our food came at the same time and we were in and out in one hour. Dont go there to dine because turning over tables is more important to the restaurant.
Got there late, ordered something that tipi quite a while. All was handled with professional poise. The food was spectacular, the service full on, the kindness was evident. A memorable meal. So great to find oneself in a spot where the staff are unabashed to say how happily long they have been there. Final big shout out about finding a place inside for me ebike. Secure parking is a real problem! Thoroughly recommend!
The only place to go for true authentic sushi! So good, never disappointed!!
They turned is down because we had a baby with us. Ridiculous.
We stopped in at lunch, The waitress let us know they have a new menu at lunch, and it is great! Basically a rice bowl. They were so great and happy to have us, and the food was so good. Best Takoyaki I have had!!
Delicious food and fabulous service.
There are other places in town to get sushi but I promise you none as good as Wasabiya. I am obsessed with the smoked salmon salad and the sunset roll. Everything is beautifully presented and first class. It is a real treat to eat at this restaurant. They use REAL crab none of this imitation crab with loads of toppings. The food speaks for itself. It is the best.
Best Sushi ever! You have to try it if you like sushi! Been twice this month to get take out and it is so good! Will be going back.
Theres a reason I keep coming back. Staff is excellent. Food is phenomenal.
Always consistent and good. Our go to place for Sushi in Campbell River.
Great friendly service
Best sushi I ever taste since my travel in Japan! If you like quantity over quality, a traditional sushi place like Wasabya is not for you. There is plenty of American/Sushi in Campbell River. Finding an authentic sushi restaurent is way more difficullt. Everything on the menu is hyperfresh and every item is hand made just before serving. You cant ask more for real sushi!
The food is amazing and the owner is super nice, what a wonderful experience!!!!
Authentic Japanese cuisine offering a number of menu items not usually available in small, neighbourhood restaurants outside Vancouver.
OMG this place has amazing sushi! Some of the best on the island for sure!
Delicious sushi, friendly staff and a great location. Only complaint is the wooden chairs are hardly comfortable.
Simply the best!!! Enough said!
Decent food
My favorite place for sushi.. Good food..good service!!
Every time we find to visit from Alberta this is a must-go. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, especially their spicy grilled tuna.
Best sushi in Campbell River! I moved to the mainland and its hard to find grilled tuna! Highly recommended Wasabia!
Always fresh and tasty. The service is awesome too.
Great sushi, ambiance and service.
Best salmon roll...nand damn near the best sushi restaurant on the north side of the island
Best in CR
We constructed this place with Donny, my Campbell River go to sushi joint, Hero the owner works building the sushi and when we arrive in Campbell River this is usually one of our priority scheduled visits to enjoy his works. Best sushi in the world by far. Make sure to make reservations well in advance its worth the visit if your visiting the river town. Say I sent you. See you in April Hero!!
By far the best sushi in Campbell River. Traditional dishes delivered with to freshest of fare. No weird sauces over everything.
Best sushi in town!
Fabulous as always. So happy to be able to enjoy it with social distancing and diligent stafg
I have no idea what happened in the 4 years since my last review but Im changing my rating from 4 stars to 1. VERY disappointed.. we waited 2 hours-fine, hot tempura in with cold sushi-not fine... How TF are any of these rolls 8, 9 or almost $10? Id gladly pay 15$ or even 20$ but seriously get a grip.
Do not recommend getting the small platter A. The Dungeness crab roll was good but didnt make up for the other rolls, which were lacking in flavour. The chicken teriyaki don was okay.
Simply the best there is for sushi in CR if not the Island and its not even close. Has been my go to place for years because of the quality of food and exceptional service from the staff. Places like this dont exist and stay as busy as they are for almost 20 years without delivering on both those things. If youre looking for a traditionally inspired Japanese meal and to be treated like family this is the place.
Best sushi in town hands down. Here again tonight for a fantastic sushi feast... I always order too much because there are so many key items that just cannot be missed. My favs are the smoked salmon salad, gyoza, stunning tuna & you can never go wrong with a prawn tempura. The rolls are always amazing. Best part is the consistency here. It s ALWAYS good and the service is TOP notch every single time. They know us and our friends by name. Mallory is the best server in town and over the years we ve always had excellent service. The staff is always amazing and if you sit at the bar it s very entertaining to watch your dinner be made right in front of your eyes. I ve been going to wasabiya for 10 years and I ve always been impressed. It s a go to spot in Cr. Thank you wasabiya for another fantastic dinner. This is our fav spot for dinner out with friends always a fun time.
Sockeye
Great food!! Good service..
I have yet to find a sushi place that compares to this place.
This was such a disappointing experience! I honestly can t believe all of the positive reviews. I received some of the smallest sushi rolls I ve ever seen, and paid an absolute fortune for them (we re talking $9.95 for a bland, miniature dynamite roll that would go for $5.95 in any other sushi joint). I ordered the agedashi tofu and received three tiny slabs of tofu with barely any coating. The service was quick and the staff friendly but unfortunately this was some of the worst, if not the worst, sushi I ve ever had. I won t be returning and I can t recommend it.
Tasty gomae, lovely eel sushi. Good service
One of the best meals in cambell river
Delicious
Amazing volcanoe roll
Pricey for the portions you get..
I was told it was the best sushi place in town. After eating there I was very pleased.
Hands down the best place in town.Staff 5 stars all of them. The masters creating it all , 5 stars are not enough.
Delicious food!!
Best sushi on Vancouver island
Love this place and the staff!
Great quality. Friendly staff. Food can take a while.
Amazing
Great sushi and very affordable prices. Sit at the bar and you can watch them make everything right in front of you. I work in the seafood industry and can tell you they have delicious fish!
Was very good
Pretty average sushi, very expensive price.
This is the best sushi I have had in a long time.
Fantastic meal and service !!
Best Sushi ever. The Smoked Salmon Salad is so yummy
Good food but small place and can be noisy
Best sushi on the island hands down!
Best Sushi in town!
So good! But menu never changes, restaurant is too small... Takes forever to get takeout and you need a reservation to eat in.
Visiting from Vancouver and thought the quality here was awesome, ordered the volcano roll, miso soup, and taking sunomono, all were well presented and delicious. Will definitely go back!
By far, best sushi restaurant on the island. The only other one that compares is Noris in Nanaimo.
Very good Japanese food, the best in town. This place is justifiably busy both for lunch and dinner so its a good idea to make a reservation.
Most authentic Japanese food in Campbell River. Good menu. Make reservations otherwise expect to wait for a table.
Best Japanese food in town great service too.
Great atmosphere and food
Amazing sushi. Not cheap but well worth the price. The best sushi in Campbell river for sure. Owner (Hiro) is very passionate about his food.
Best sushi joint in Campbell River. The searedtuna appetizer is amazing. Keep the spicy sauce for the rest of the rolls. Fish is fresh and tasty but be sure to book a reservation as there is little open to walk-ins.
i have been going here to eat for more than 14 years always the same. which is better than a 5 star rating mmmmmm.. the best sushi on the whole entire island and iv tried them all...
Delicious!
Ok. My opinion
Fantastic food guys - really appreciate you guys looking after us!
BEST authentic Japanese restaurant in town!!!! Friendly staff, excellent fresh sushi. Chicken karage and bento box was amazing! Should be the first Sushi place you go in Campbell River.
Wow ...its been a while since Ive been here and I have to wonder what happened? Used to be so awesome. It sure wasnt last night. I have to wonder if its under new management, or owmership. I talked this place up huge to my company for the evening and was very surprised to see ample seating without a reservation on a Saturday night. Now I know why.
Always amazing
Shit
Good food
By far the BEST sushi I have had!
Absolutely fantastic! Rice was fresh and soft, and all the seafood was delicious. Service great too.
First class sushi. Best I have had on the island, and beats Vancouver hands down. Fantastic!
My fav sushi spot which serves quality traditional Japanese food. Service is always friendly and I would recommend to anyone looking for great sushi.
My fav sushi place hands down, costs slightly more but worth it! Always had amazing service
Always busy so reserve in advance. Delicious authentic Japanese cuisine. Friendly service in a high energy atmosphere. Quality sushi. Good value.
I am in often, and have never been disappointed. Service is always friendly, and the food is always so tastey. The restaurant is usually packed. Reservations are a must!
best sushi in campbell river.
Awesome everything!
So lucky to have such a good sushi place in town
Amazing gyoza!!
Best Sushi on the island
Authentic and delicious food prepared here, highly recommended.
Best sushi in BC.
Favourite sushi in the North Island, often a long wait or reservations needed but so worth it! Probably the best fish selection and rice has been perfect every time
LOVE this place... amazing food... been going for years and never disappointed! The Smoked Salmon Salad is my favourite... love the sauce with my rolls!
Really good sushi, great service.
Best sushi in Campbell River. Fast. Fresh. Family friendly. Everything on the menu is amazing!!
Best sushi on the North island. Make reaervations
Awful and awful. No clue at all about Japanese cuisine .
Excellent food and service.
Wasabiya is incredible! The seared tuna, spicy tuna and the volcano roll are so tasty! Mix in some sake and you have a great meal in an amazing and cozy environment. The service has always been pleasant and attentive. Prices are on point for the quality of the food. Be sure to call ahead as it is a very busy place and can be tough to walk into an open table. Oh and dont sleep on the tempura veggies
Amazing sushi, always fresh and service is quick. Love the smoked salmon salad (the ginger dressing is amazing)
There was a long strand of hair inside of my food, took 20 min to get a replacement and somehow the portion was half the size that it was before. Only got 2 dollars of the bill which I thought was cheap. The sashimi was good very good though.
Least favorite sushi restaurant in town. Got a to go order. Called and asked for a yam roll, and a chicken roll. The lady gave me attitude from the get go, and snarled saying she never heard of a chicken roll, whatever that is she said. Put me on hold. I lost service. Had to call back 4 times before I got through again. I ended up getting a yam roll and a spicey prawn roll. Came to $16... Only got one packet of soy sauce. Also took 30 minutes to make on a slow Wednesday afternoon. And the rolls themselves were small, with not much inside. Over priced and not very friendly service.
Great food. Compared to other sushi restaurants in the area Ive never had old product served to me. Cost a little more, but there is a little more love put into it which can be seen with the plating and the freshness of the ingredients.
By far best sushi Im town!! Amazing dynamite roll
