Food was really good. I’d like to think it was freshly made. Portions were a bit small compared to the other Baan Thai restaurant we’ve been too. Good spice for the curries we ordered. Trying to locate this restaurant was confusing as we ended up in a Vietnamese restaurant, but we were kindly redirected to the right place - which is above the Vietnamese restaurant. It’s almost like a mom and pop restaurant, but quite old. Service was very slow, we had to wait for over 35 minutes for just two orders. I believe they only had one server when we visited. We were tempted to get our meal to go, when we requested this, the server said our food was on the way to us. Service/atmosphere wasn’t professional.. the owners kids were in the restaurant, in a corner blocked off by a room divider. You could here them cry/play/laugh; and the owner would call out from the welcome table for them to keep the noise down.
Got 2 orders of pad thai for takeout, one tofu and one beef. The tofu one was good but the beef one was terrible. It tasted fishy even though there was no seafood in it, and there was barely any beef. Both dishes had way too much cabbage, it felt more like filler than a balanced part of the dish. I live outside of town so I had to drive 20 mins each way to pick up the food so going back to the restaurant was not an option. Very expensive and very disappointing.
Was a little reluctant to eat here having seen a couple of bad reviews on Google (Trip Advisor actually had slightly better reviews). But no regrets as the food was scrumptious, large portions along with friendly & quick service. Would eat here every day if we could (sadly only in Campbell Ricer for tonight).
We loved everything about this place. It isn't fancy but the food and service were great, and we loved the fact there is rooftop Thai dining in Campbell River. Can't wait to go back!
Authentic Thai, good size portions and really fresh and delicious. The reviews almost deterred us from trying this place but we are so glad we gave it a chance. Really good and I will be back!
Flavour was good but the portions were dismally small for the price. The 'Mixed Seafood' stir fry for $23 had 2 local muscles in the shell, 2 shrimp, 1/2 a scallop and a couple rubber strips I assume were squid. The portion was Appetizer size not Entre. The Red Curry was great flavour and pipping hot but my wife, nor I, could chew through the couple pieces of beef. Our Appetizer was 8 small split wings, over battered and over deep fried. Such a disappointment.
I swear all these reviews are a targeted attack on this place haha I can’t believe them when the food here is just so good! My family lives up island and when we come down for supplies/appointments we almost always eat here since the Thai is so excellent, way more stand out than some of the very generic tasting thai places in the area. Maybe some of the reviews are so low because people are used to cheap chain food? Who knows! But for myself I have to recommend the curry, huge fan of the yellow curry and it always has lots of tofu in it when I order it. Plus the thai tea? Chef’s Kiss. Seriously though, it’s legitimately the best curry I’ve had anywhere on the island and honestly in general it’s up there for best curries I’ve had. Also for all the snooty little boomers giving a bad review for “bad service”, the servers have always been super friendly and perfectly competent. I swear those reviews gotta be like…. Racist lol. They’re a family restaurant so they’ve got kids and stuff here, which as everyone knows means the food must be good haha! Literally normal nice service guys. Regardless, check them out!! Love this place!
Dirty washrooms (right by the kitchen), TERRIBLE service and food! Worse than a cheap take out place! You can expect to get maybe 2 tiny pieces of meat in the dishes (even though we ordered extra meat). The "fruit juice" was some flavorless, watered down concentrate. The waiter was totally clueless and the manager was very rude and condescending, insisting that it was "impossible" that there not be plentiful meat. We showed him the photos of our food before we started eating but he was still in denial and insisted it was "in there." Someone needs to train him on good customer service. Being rude to paying customers does not give your restaurant a good repuatation, nor does poor quality food or skimping on the meat and hoping the customer won't notice. We decided this place with its "imaginary meat," rude staff, and dirty washrooms (which made us question if the food was made in sanitary conditions) was not worth eating at and paid the bill (considered it a donation) and left.
We went 2 evenings in a row, we enjoyed it so much. I dont understand the criticism.
The curry was fabulous. Coconut rice so good. Pad Thai not great. Cashew chicken average. I would go back just for the curry. Cleanliness and service average. Dietary restrictions: I am celiac and had no trouble eating here. Wheelchair accessibility: Steep stairs
Disappointing. From poor technique to a complete lack of flavour and authenticity, a regrettable dining experience. Greasy, flat and FAR from Thai cuisine. I rarely write negative reviews. Huge supporter of small business as an industry professional. When asked how my meal was, I was honest, but respectful. Their response was to walk away and shoot me dirt looks. I was the only client on a Friday afternoon. This response says everything about the lack of care and pride with which they operate. According to locals, Baan Thai used to be a little treasure before changing hands. In response another review, siting negative Google reviews as possible attacks - multiple people sharing the same poor experience is not an accident.
Good food but slow service. We were given a lunch specials menu but not allowed to order from it. Had to wait a long time to get the bill. Parking: Limited angle parking on the street out front. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible as the restaurant is located upstairs.
Quietly located on the first floor, but excellent food and service.
I hate giving poor reviews. In my opinion I believe they knew they over cooked and under-flavored our two different dishes. My friend and I both felt the same.
Absolutely delicious food and friendly service!
Food was excellent but the portions were very small, especially considering the price. Spoiled the experience.
Very disappointed, they cooked for the food delivery services and ignored the two couples in house. Had time to notice how dirty it was, nothing would if tasted good by then!
Fantastic people, very family oriented. Good food.
Delicious food , good costumers service. Vegetarian options: They serve vegetarian, not wheelchair accessible though.
The chicken satay was small portion hard and dry CANT believe I tipped for take out! Wish I went to n macdonalds!!
Had a great meet up with a friend, I had Pad Thai and she had a chicken and veg curry dish. Comfort food at its best!
Had a takeaway so cant rate atmosphere. Quite hot and spicy, perfect.
My wife and I have a fondness for Thai food and we took note of this restaurant during the Canada Day parade. We went there last night. Im always torn between yellow curry and green curry and last night we both ended up taking vegetable green curry. Service was prompt and the food was hot and filled with a variety of vegetables. It was also pleasingly spicy hot. We both really enjoyed the meal and now we also have lunch leftovers for today!
Its good. Family run business and they care about the food.
Excellent food there.
This was by far the worst restaurant ever. Horrible service, cheap junk food...just disgusting and totally overpriced...avoid this place !!!!
The food was very bland. I had 3 tiny overcooked pieces of chicken in my pad thai. 20$ for noodles and 2 pieces of broccoli. No love in the food.
Always fun. Appies are always the best! Food
I carried out. The pad Thai and coconut rice were delish. I loved every bite. Deff new comfort food spot. Boyfriend got the masaman curry, which I tried and it was amazing.
In all three chicken dishes we had the chicken was chewy. I took one star away for that because everything else was absolutely terrific. This is no, hi, my name is Chad and Ill be your server type of place. The service made us feel as though we were actually in the owners home and were her friends. We will be going back at least a couple of times a month. Vegetarian options: My wife was in heaven her vegetarian meal was so good.
Baan Thai has the best thai food on Vancouver Island. I ordered the pad thai, beef in oyster sauce and cashew chicken and they are all very tasty and fresh. Definitely my comfort food. The staff is very friendly and warm. Great food, great service, I would be back for sure! Highly recommended!
One of my favourites in Campbell River, I went in today with my cousin was her birthday amazing food and friendly service
Not the best- order was all mixed up. Long service wait times but restaurant was full. The appetizer was good
As always great food
Deep intense flavours. Nicely decorated with Thai themed tablecloths and relaxing music. Ill be back. Upstairs.
Very nice experience. Great food! Will definitely be back. Thank you Baan Thai!!! Cheers
Best Thai food specially pad Thai and curry dish, difinitely will come back again.
Edit: Replying to the owner s response. As for accusing us of finishing our food, we don t have a habit of counting the pieces of meat in our food before eating, as we have never had this experience before. Also, since it s a restaurant and not a drive-thru, maybe you should consider hiring competent staff who can handle many requests /larger groups. We don t walk into a restaurant expecting a discount for subpar food, but we do expect good service and food. Had the chicken Pad Thai and a Mango juice. I didn t find the Pad Thai to be authentic but it was good. Friends who accompanied me brought to their attention that they didn t have enough meat in the items they ordered (they didn t order Pad Thai). One of them even ordered extra meat. Giving them 1 star because of the way the staff handled the complaint. They were arrogant and didn t bother to correct their mistake. We heard a long conversation among the staff. They spoke a different language so I couldn t understand what they discussed, but they were definitely discussing us because they were looking in our direction. Reading the other reviews, this is not the first time diners have had poor experiences.
EDIT: We went here again when we visited Campbell River and this time it was open. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I ordered beef fried rice and there were exactly three small pieces of beef in my rice. The chef/manager was very rude when it was pointed out to him and his tone was very accusatory. Needless to say, we left our partially eaten food, paid the bill, and went to look for food at a different restaurant. Terrible food and terrible customer service. We love Thai food and this is NOT authentic Thai food or anything close to it. In fact, it s an insult to Thai food. For $15, I could ve bought much better food at a fast food place/food court. Definitely do not recommend this place and wish I could give it -5 stars. We went here for dinner on Monday night because it was supposed to be open according to Google maps, but unfortunately it was closed. Please update your hours.
Good Pad Thai and appetizers
Not much better than food court style cooking, overly sweet and small portions, sorry to say.
Great Thai food! Friendly staff! Keep up the good work Baan Thai! Thank you !
Ordered for home delivery and food was hot and fresh. Enjoyed the Tom Yum broth with just the right level of spice, and the Cashew Chicken was tasty too, especially with Coconut Rice. Portions of main dishes were just right for one person to eat heartily when combined with rice. I will definitely order from here again.
Ive had Thai food up and down the island and I gotta say the bar is low, Ive had better pad Thai at noodlebox! The best thing we had was the frozen spring rolls that they have the audacity to charge over $10 for 4 rolls. If I could give a zero this would be it.
Very good food
Good food. Decent service. Not very busy
Good food, nice beer, and great people
Good but pricey. Sandwich like 15 dollars
Ordered the daily special bbq pork noodles and was fairly dissapoinged, the meal was pretty bland and overpriced considering a salad took up half of the take out box. Restaurant was pretty empty, so service was quick.
If I could give this place zero stars I would, proportions were dissapointly small. Service was horrible with skip the dishes as,as well as the price. I felt like I got robbed out of $60, food lacked flavor and it tasted like it sat on the counter for a day. I recently went to imagine thai and was very impressed. Baannnn this thai food please.
Amazing food and service, maybe a little too much food for me though hahaha
Was a real good lunch, bit pricier than Im used to. Everything was very fresh & the server owner was a treat in herself.
Good food but not enough
I waited almost 40 minutes for food. It was tasty but not impressive. The prices are too high for such food, the design of restaurant is clearly old and not well thought out.
Had a long blonde hair in my food, when I asked the waitress asked if I was sure it wasnt mine (I have short black hair). Then gave me a 10% discount for the food. Overall a terrible experience.
Ordered prawn pad thai. It came with chicken it. I called the restaurant and they admitted to making a mistake. The curry was like actual soup and tasteless and came with no rice. Took the food back to them and they denied screwing up the order and wouldnt give our money back. They yelled at me in front of their own child. I will never go back. If I could give zero stars I would. Worst experience ever. Also suoer expensive and small portions.
Fantastic restaurant with delicious food. This place has their priorities and customer service in check!
Horrible food and horrible service. Never going back.
Ordered pad Thai with tofu. What came was mr. noodles with a ton of soy sauce hardly any vegetables. Paid $26 and dumped it into trash - not edible. If I could give it a lower score I would.
Very unimpressed, especially considering the prices. The vegetables in all the dishes were obviously frozen. You can tell it is frozen because theybuse crinkle cut carrots...please. The sauces for the stirfry and curry tatsed so overly salted or sweet, as if they were from cans youd get from the supermarket. We got pad thai and it had carrots and broccoli in it, the same frozen veg looking ones that are in all the dishes. Pad thai DOES NOT have broccoli and carrots. ...just so lazy. Also hit a very salty spot in our food, so not well made. The only good thing was the rice we had to make because the food didnt come with any. Definitely dont waste your money here. If you know what good thai food is you will be let down.
Its not authentic Thai food. Correct names. But they have missed the flavor and texture. Wont be returning.
We enjoyed a delicious meal of pad Thai, a curry, vegetables, and ginger beef with Jasmine rice.
Had to ask for cutlery, server forgot to bring drinks to the table. People working in the back could be seen wearing surgical masks, other than that the food was ok
Baan thai is under new ownership, the food was good before but even better now and the staff and owners are so nice and welcoming. Hands down one of the best places in town to eat.
Good food, cozy atmosphere
Even though she was run off her feet, short handed, and inundated with customers, Jul gave stellar service. We had eaten there 5 years ago and the food and service where fantastic again. Highly recommended
Great food, service was a bit slow but overall happy
Excellent menu, Delicious Thai food dishes, very Friendly and helpful Staff, Clean Restaurant, enjoyed eating there
Mmmmmm soooooo good!!
The coconut rice was spectacular! Great service. Reservations recommended.
Great location but the food has gone down hill. I remember it being great many years ago but this visit the food was mediocre.
Urgent check Yarik Wei time
The restaurant is located in the second floor of the building. The food was not as good. One of our dishes was absolutely tasteless and uninspired. The other one was okay but nothing special - likewise as cooked at home. I expect more for a ~18$ dish. The service was okay, but struggled a bit with her understanding of English.
Yum!
I stop here frequently if Im traveling through Campbell river.
Not like most Thai food places or like food in Thailand.... But tastes ok, mostly stir fry style and curry.
Really delicious food, we even went back the next day!
Great service
Great food and service
.Great food, that is super fresh with good service and they go out of theor way to accommodate special requests.
I love the food here. The view is great.
Decent menu offerings for an ok price.located in a quaint setting. Would recommend and will return
Service was great, food was pretty good.
Friendly and nice environment wonderful food
The only good part about the place was the staffs. Food was not great at all. I have had many Thai food before and this one was the worst so far.
Great Thai food! Reasonable prices, a nice restaurant overall.
Good food
Good Thai food, good service and convenient location.
While the food is good, they made a mistake on my order, I heard the server tell the kitchen that i changed my mind, and didnt receive so much as an apology or offered any compensation for their mistake. Not impressed with my experience today.
Very friendly staff and great food! I wish I could have taken the place back to Vancouver with me. YUMM!
Service was slow. Food was okay. Restaurant tables and menus were sticky and dirty. Ordered an iced tea and it was insanely sweet to the point I had to order a water to mix it half and half with. Even then the water took 20 mins to get and the iced tea was still super sweet. Dont think Ill eat here again.
Not impressed. Received a different curry than I ordered. When I asked the server she told me that was the number I d ordered. Since it was my mistake and the food still tasted good, I was polite and kept it. On my way out after paying and tipping, I reviewed the menu numbers again and discovered the server had lied to me. I had ordered correctly and she d brought me the wrong food! Not a great way of running a business...
Thr redtarant was clean and decor was nice but the food was not! Arrived luke warm to the table and lacked any appeal at all. Would not cecomend!
A really great atmosphere. Authentic Thai cuisine. Definitely coming back
Authentic, high quality. The yellow curry is the bomb.
Everything Ive tried there was just awesome daily specials good atmosphere check it out for sure
Our server was funny and pleasant. I enjoyed the special of the day. A yellow, shrimp curry. The flavour was good. The rice well cooked. I feel the curry sauce was a little thick and gritty, but not bad. My friends Pad Thai was good she said. Clean and nice looking interior. Speed was reasonable but it wasnt very busy.
never.been.there
Horrible food long wait times for the food and expensive
Best food i have had eating out since new orleans, service little slow because the place was packed. Many peaple turned away because no reservations. Great prices for the qaulity of food and service. Will be back soon.
Consistently great food!
Good food, good location, good prices!!
Delicious food and friendly service, decent prices and fair sized portions
Absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly and accommodating to our larger group.
Great service, good food, and fair prices. I come here whenever I work overnight in CR
I had the yellow curry, and though it was a bit spicier than I expected it was delicious! The pad Thai was a bit too sweet for my liking
The food is delicious but the wait times can be pretty atrocious. This was my second time at this location and we had to wait more than 40 minutes from the time we order the food until it was delivered. They said they were very busy but the restaurant was about 45% full.
The worst food I have ever put in my mouth
Awwsome
The quick and dirty is that I ordered a curry dish which looked super scrumptious, but upon the first bite I extracted a long black hair. I then found a second hair in my curry, and at this point the server asked about my meal. I then informed her about the hair dilemma, in which I was already embarrassed; she processed to pat me on the shoulder and tell me that I was fine with it. After being totally caught off guard by the server not offering to replace my spoiled food I decided not to eat it. A different waitress then cleared my plate and I informed her of why it was left untouched. She seemed sympathetic but when the bill came they merely took off $4.50 from the total and I still paid for the rest of my $17 meal which I had not touched. Unbelievable, the waitress mentioned that this was the best she could provide after chatting with her boss. Very disappointed in their service, in the manner in which the incident was dealt with and with the management. A simple replacement of the food would have been most welcomed as thats all I wanted; and in lieu of that not paying for a meal that I did not eat because of their mistake. I will not be recommending this restaurant to fellow colleagues following this incident, which is unfortunate as we do a tremendous amount of work in the area and stay here often.
Lunch with the girls...priceless
As a lover of Thai food, I was very disappointed. I know how to make some of the dishes we ordered. Bean thread salad - suppose to be a savory dish. It was bean thread cover in sweet chilli sauce. As are other fish dish (cover in sweet chilli sauce). Dont waste your money!
Delicious
Great restaurant, great food...you will not be disappointed!
Best Thai food in Campbell River, love it!
Underneath anti is a Honey Lemon Grill place we also give it a four star it is at the same location as the ban Thai restaurant
Food was fine but service was slow.
Best Thai in The River !!
Excellent Thai food in Campbell River!! was much better than our expectations.
best food in all of BC the staff are every friendly and the food is always fast and hot
The best Pad Thai Ive ever had
Cute restaurant, call to safe your spot. Worth checking out
I ate at Baan Thai with a group of about 10 people so it was hectic. The food was good quality Thai food though and they have a decent bar. Friendly waitress and nice decor. The spicy green curry with jasmine rice was very good. I wished that they would have served fresh spring rolls, not the fried kind.
