St. Thomas, 5600 Royal Dane Mall Suite 9, Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas 00802, U.S. Virgin Islands
Caribbean and American dishes prepared with a personal twist. Conch Fritters, Jerk Wings, Curry Chicken, Oxtails, Fresh Fish, Plantains, Avocados stuffed with Fresh Caribbean Lobster Salad, Burgers, Salads and Sandwiches as well as refreshing, passion fruit, and fresh fruit coladas. Don’t miss out on the homemade hot sauces.
These were the BEST OX TAILS I have ever had in my life. The rice was fantastic and I damn near licked the plate no lie! 100% would go here again
Went in for a quick drink and ended up getting an entire meal because many things on the menu sounded very good. The cocktail was very strong and tasty and inexpensive as well! The atmosphere was very nice, I loved the art on the walls. Our waitress and her son were very nice and gave us tips about local dishes to try.
In the heart of the Cruse Ship area, that is walkable. Great atmosphere and food selections are good. Price is about average and not to expensive. Food flavors vary, and some are unique to the island.
Local Hidden Gem! It's off the main strip but make sure to look for the little white sign pointing down the alley. Everything was AMAZING, including our server Amber. Food-Jerk Wings, plantain, King Fish, Veggies and rice and peas. Rice and peas had some little hard pieces in it but the flavor was grand. Drinks-Ginger beer, Passion Punch 🍹(STRONG) and tropical carribean delight(should have said no banana but still yummy, if you like 🍌).
Great food options for true St Thomas food. We had the oxtail, curry goat and kallaloo soup. Large portions and everything was excellent! Staff was super friendly and we had fun talking to them while sitting at the bar. Will definitely be back before we leave.
Venture down the alley and turn into a delightful dining experience! Cool place for an afternoon drink, or perhaps a larger meal. The staff really went out of their way to make things great for us. I still have warm and fuzzy feelings! My goat curry lunch special rocked! Stuffed avocado was also light but satisfying! Come support local businesses while taking in the tastes of the islands!
Gladys ' Cafe the Ultimate dinning experience of the Caribbean and the Island . It was such a great eating & Dining experience. I've never been disappointed when I've gone there to eat. The Oxtail Stew was absolutely delicious. If you are in ST.Thomas, you must go otherwise, you will be missing one of the best parts of the Caribbean and ST. Thomas. Our server was very attentive and she provided excellent customer service and dining service .
My wife and I went to Glades Cafe for lunch while exploring Charolette Amelie, during our cruise stopover in St Thomas. Gladys came recommended from an acquaintance who grew up on the island from back home. It was the perfect stop for some delicious and authentic Caribbean cuisine. We ordered authentic dishes, including the fish and goat curry, authentic callaloo soup, and a delicious Sorrel drink. After our lunch, we felt refreshed and energized to explore all that Charolette Amelie had to offer. We highly recommend this cafe for anyone who is seeking authentic Caribbean cuisine with amazing customer service while exploring Charolette Amelie.
Nope! First, after being seated for breakfast, the time to have my order taken was at least 15 minutes and the waiter said we cannot order breakfast after 11. Strange a table of 5 ordered breakfast and walked in right after my party if 3. After ordering burgers and a grouper sandwich, we sat for an hour. WAITING. At least we got drinks. Tables were seated, ate, paid and left in that time. I canceled my order which was probably never given to the kitchen. Paid for drinks, and they at least offered a refund. The owner was curt when she handed the refund. I was going to give it a second chance but decided it s not worth my time. People need to understand that the restaurant business relies on hospitality. Your customer is the most important being in the universe. And I hate doing this to the sister, but this was a complete let down.
Definitely not cheap and if your from the states , not the most bang for your buck
I visited this restaurant 13 years ago.
Great place to sit and have quality food!
The server was really nice and the place is cool.
Good food and cute place.
Really happy we stopped for lunch, food is very good, everyone is friendly, and not too expensive. Coladas are really good!
Can find local cuisine, but great burgers and a good local staff. Remember, you are on island time...
Great food, love the atmosphere of old St. Thomas!
I really enjoyed the Restaurant l
Great food and excellent service. The more I comr here, the more I like it. My server is 10/10. Paulie is one of a kind.
Great food , great service from staff the male server needs a promotion. definitely recommend went on 2 different occasions and both times I was highly satisfied Food
delicious food, I ordered rice with lamb the atmosphere is interesting
We had the best lobster and avocado omelets while my husband had Curry Goat. Our driver called ahead and Amber was there ready to seat us at our table. The restaurant is in a beautiful historical building with the high vaulted doors. We loved it.
Since we had a long wait at the airport we took a taxi to Glady s Cafe for breakfast. They have the best lobster avocado and cream cheese omelets. My hubby was able to get the curry goat even though it was before 11:00am. Amber took such good care of us. Oh and the fresh ginger beer is a must! Soooo good.
The good thing is the food was delicious, way better than I expected. The bad thing is the portion size is small and its a pricey location. For what youre paying for, you would expect a little more. Overall, I had pleasant experience in the middle of a tourist trap.
Our waitress was rude. The food was not as described. The oxtails were very fatty and the jerk wings were not authentic jerk. They had a sweet marinade on them. I would not recommend this place at all.
Very good foods here. Comfortable service and history deep location. A mix of of school mainland dishes and island ingredients. Worth it. Food : 5/5
Not crowed and food came out cold, breakfast.
Had the fruit bowl and lemonade a nice tasty good snack
Service was exceptional and servers very pleasant and accommodating
Recommended to us but disappointing. Food was very average. Not hot. Cocktails nice.
The food was alright. Just had the curry chicken. Wasn t ass tasty as I thought it would be. Atmosphere was kinda weak. I would go back and give it another try.
Glady s cafe is overhyped. Went for breakfast and they gave me smuckers syrup with my pancakes and burned eggs. The fresh juice is sour. Wouldn t recommend
A wonderful place to grab a bite to eat!
Super
Cozy and elegant. Great food and delicious desserts .
The scrambled eggs with sausage and homemade fries were delicious, and the tea was good. The café is nicely decorated, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
I shared with the server( male light skinned) that this was our first time in St Thomas. I wanted to try Fungi plus we orderd other items as well.I personally did not like the Fungi.I ate one bite. My husband tasted it and he was not attached either. It would have been great if he would have said you did not hardly touch this so Im not going to charge you Instead, he said after the fact Its an acquired taste. Thats how you know the difference between the owner and a person that works there. The Conch fritters had more breading than Conch. Could hardly taste the Conch beneath the breading. Very pleasant environment. Plantains were great.
My family and I went to this place for lunch. My daughter did not like what she ordered however the owner came out and spoke to my daughter in a negative tone and said you people from the U.S think we are stupid. Mind you this is a tourist attraction area. The owner is very disrespectful if you from the USA don t eat here.
Its an awesome atmosphere and pitstop. My husband I were torn . On the taste. He had the fish (old wife) and said it was great. I had the oxtails and it pales in comparison to what I have had in the past and even what my daughters make which are second generation.
Beautiful place, friendly service and the food was great!
I visited here Aug 30-Sept 1 and this restaurant is known from natives for good food.. no doubt the service is good the food is good but upon returning to Miami this restaurant did FRAUD on me and my sisters credit cards! BEWARE if you DONT leave a TIP on the date of service they will TAKE it out against your will! They will refund you the money you spent with them and then wait a couple days later to charge you the amount you spent and then charge you a tip of any amount they feel comfortable with!! I ve reached out to the manager regarding this matter but nothing has gotten resolved!! Please beware of this and always check your credit card transactions!! Someone in this restaurant is an expert at doing FRAUD and it s sad that they have to be this way! But I had to make this a known factor so it won t happen to anyone else!
We visited via cruise today and stumbled upon Glady s Cafe by accident. It was the best accidental find ever! The food was out of this world and the service was amazing. We had the best time chatting with Pauline; she made our visit absolutely magical. I cannot recommend Glady s Cafe enough to those visiting the island. Hint: The oxtail stew is awesome as are the pina coladas.
The oxtail s made my eyes roll back it was so good!! Great atmosphere and service was quick. Parking is hard but worth it.
Awesome breakfast spot , one of the best on the island
Breakfast eggs were bland. Coffee was good. Server was very nice but service was a bit slow. The A/c was better in the front of the cafe than in the back.
Was recommended by two trusted family members. Who also dined in with my wife and I. The food and the service was excellent. When my wife and I return to ST Thomas we will definitely eat at Gladys Cafe many times during our stay Parking: Found parking on Back Street
Difficult to find the entryway, There s like 6 door with padlocks on them then there was another entrance with a rope across and a sign that says use next door, the next door had a sign that says close but there are customers inside and google maps says they re open
Its was a great place to eat. The staff was friendly and the food wasnt to expensive. I had the St. Thomas traditional dish Ole wife fish it was awesome.
Great food I personally think it s the best on the island. Great music, get staff. Thank you for the experience!
I walked down a narrow alleyway to get here. Some tourists thought the place is closed but it s definitely open. Nice laid back vibe. I went there for lunch and had the conch chowder for a quick bite. I was told this place is popular with high ratings so I had to go. I noticed there was an ox tail special I wish I had gotten it. People around me seemed pleased with it. I wasn t that hungry though. My server was polite and professional and my food was good. I will definitely go back.
Absolutely horrible, unprofessional, horrendous service from Pamela. Rude, and highly unprofessional. When I first walked in I was not greeted by her, nor did she smile, nor did she seem happy that I was there. I said I wanted to do take out. She proceeded to yell at me to wait at the other end of the bar. Why??? She said, wait!!! She left and then decided to sit at the bar because I have a bad back. Keith took my order and was highly professional and very nice. I waited a bit and was talking to Keith while I waited. Pamela proceeds to throw a coaster at me!! Her excuse? Oh that was meant for Keith. First off PAMELA you should not be THROWING ANYTHING. again, she is highly unprofessional and now she is dangerous. Ms Gladys, you need to hire more professional staff like Keith and lose the incompetent people like PAMELA. And the food is a total rip off. 20 bucks for 2 pieces of bacon and eggs w some toast. Im a local here, and trus me I will neve come in again.
The food was good - average. They had a good mix of Caribbean and American food. They definitely have something for everyone. And the servers were personable and friendly. Food : 3/5
Been here multiple times over the years, even at their old location across the passageway. Always a pleasant experience I recommend choosing them over other options in town. Their Banana Daiquiri was better than the world famous one in Mountain Top.
The Best food we have had yet in the US VI! The Jerk chicken sandwich was great....The Braised Oxtail was awesome ! the Conch cup of Chowder was just like pur homemade Chowder!
The AC was a very nice break from the norm. The jersey chicken sandwich was worth every star. The Ole Wife (trigger fish) my son had was amazing.
Beautiful Place! Great Service! Food was Good!
Simply delicious! We had curry chicken and oxtails. The key lime pie just eat it! 10/10
Had breakfast here, the food was very good! Omelets and fruit were fresh. They make their own hot sauce which was unbelievable! Got a drink and it was nothing but actual mango and rum, delicious.
Came here on a Sunday for late breakfast. The breakfast food here is just OK, nothing really special. However, we were lucky enough to be here just before lunch started at 11am. Because of that my wife and I were able to order the oxtails and the curry chicken. Now both those dishes were REALLY REALLY good. Definitely come here for lunch vs breakfast.
This place has been here for ever and has an excellent reputation as it is well deserved. We had the conch fritters and the guacamole and chips is an appetizer. We had the jerk chicken sandwich and The Conch chowder for entree and for dessert we had the rum cake and key lime pie. A couple of happy hour priced Bloody Marys and Iced Teas made the meal just about perfect. The food was well priced for the area and the appetizers were prompt. The service was exceptional in the atmosphere was great. I highly recommend this place. It is by far the best restaurant weve eaten at in St Thomas in a week.
No one in my party of 5 enjoyed their food. When I tried to give constructive criticism, they were highly offended and rude about it. Oxtails were chewy and way too fatty.
The best local restaurant on the island! The guac and chips were perfect. Our entrées were delicious, nice portions, and perfectly seasoned. If youre looking for some authentic local food, this is your spot. Theres food choices for everyone in your party (meat and seafood lovers and vegans/vegetarians). Great customer service and friendly vibes, too. Dont forget to purchase some of their local hot sauce to take back home with you. Well definitely be back!
This place has excellent food! Dont forget about their house-made hotsauce. Conch was delish, whole fish rice and peas, fresh steamed veggies and Jerk wings!
Customer service is good and the food is excellent.. I ordered cream cheese lobster avocado omelette.. too good to have leftovers.
I came in and ordered ox tail, waited nearly half an hour .. watched the people who were seated after me get their oxtail before me and 15 mins later they come telling me they re out of ox tail . The lady waiting out table definitely didn t care and wasn t very sorry about it . I will not be returning here .
Food is some of the best on this island and it is affordable! What a change from the rest of the overpriced and at best mediocre food thats served by most other places on St. Thomas. You might have to wait and the staff is a bit lacadasical. But the food is worth it.
Enjoy the simple breakfast the atmosphere was very pleasant for early morning
Kid-friendliness: Eh mazing Food
Went there on a food tour. Were interested on the history and will try to actually try having a meal there.
Took a very long time to get our food and it wasnt hot. On the bland side and they give house sauce with everything. Did not have several dishes that were on the menu.
Food was not well seasoned and quality of meat and fish felt old. My bf s burger was cooked with my fish and so my fish tasted like a beef burger. Restaurant is very cute though and close to airport but no parking.
Lovely place. Glad I stopped by.
Great stuff
Great food, beautiful atmosphere
Best local on food on island.
Great food & service
Food was only so so, service was poor. Waiter either didnt know know how to service customers or didnt care. Wrote this off for any future visits.
Food was really good, they didnt have the lobster omelette so we had to get the shrimp one and we ordered French toast as well. service was kinda slow, especially with coffee refills.
Good food, for St. Thomas this is about as clean as you will find. Cleaniness is not the islands strong suit. For some reason they have decaf coffee.
Great spot for food
Terrible experience!! one of the staff (a lady) asked where we were from and when we said New York she rolled her eyes walked away and made a nasty comment !! If you are from out of town don t go to this place. Also FOOD WAS MID. Steak was chewy
My go to place on Sundays for breakfast
The food is great and the atmosphere is very nice.
What a beautiful place!! Food was off the chart
Always love her food and she trained her people well. A true treasure.
Very delicious. FYI lunch ends at 3pm.
Very good carribean food. Great cocktails and interesting atmosphere. Gets a bit crowded at busy times with tourists. Food is tasty and a nice intro into the local native food offerings.
Found down an alley, with super awesome looking old iron doors on both sides this was truly a hidden gem! We had a light snack of chips, salsa (delicious and spicy) and guacamole (fresh and delicious!) as well as their stuffed avocado with chicken salad. They had tuna or lobster as well, but were out of shrimp. The avocado was massive and perfectly ripe. Huge portion of chicken salad on top. The chips were fresh made fried tortillas (and came out super hot!) but they were salted and tasty, we ended up with another bowl of chips (only $7) Staff was friendly and attentive, got the feeling we could have a long sit down lunch or a quick bite and be comfortable either way. If youre in the area I recommend it!
Great restaurant in virgin lands. Excellent oxtails, red and beans at great price.
Delicious breakfast, very nice staff and warming and welcoming atmosphere. Even though they were out of lobsters for lobster omelette, we ordered delicious ham and Swiss cheese omelette and vegetarian omelette. Highly recommend.
Food authentic
Oxtails and Goat Curry with Peas & Rice were outstanding. Parking: Had to park about 5 blocks away on Veterans Drive. Food : 5/5 |
Absolutely love this place! The alley leading to the restaurant is so pretty and the deco inside are very tasteful and pretty. The food price is very reasonable and food tastes good overall. Our server was efficient and gets her job done, but both my husband and I picked up a little unfriendliness vibe. She was not rude in anyway, but just a little weird vibe. There was another women working for the restaurant who helped us when we couldn t pay with our cards( don t know why, our cards work anywhere else on the island), she was so nice and friendly and let us PayPal her the bill! Overall, I recommend people to go dine here!
The absolute best...Will always return every trip. This place is a staple on the island, a must visit! Delicious food and sevice, great atmosphere.
Visited during a Holland America cruise. It was busy at the time but service seemed kinda slow. The appetizers were really good. We had the Conk Fritters and the Jerk Chicken wings. The wings were really good and the sauce was sweet and savory with some spicy kick. I had the grilled Mahi sandwich and my wife had the avocado and lobster salad.
Definitely TOP TIER. They gave me and wifey Curry Goat (rice and peas) & Oxtail (rice and peas)
Lunch this afternoon was wonderful. Husband loves Grouper n it did not disappoint. I had a Great avacado salad with very good lobster. Lemonade was tasty n refreshing. Restrooms clean, n service with smiles.
My first time in the Caribbean, I was recommended Gladys Café. It was amazing food. I had the mahi mahi and loved it. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in Saint Thomas.
This would be our 2nd time being at Gladys Cafe. The first time was about 8 years ago when the cafe was across from the present location. The original was much smaller. Although her new location is larger and busier, the food and service have not changed. We loved the then, and its just as good today. Its nice to see that profit and complacency havent taken over. We first had the seafood dip with freshly handmade chips. Yummy! I had the Mahi-Mahi sandwich, and I wish I could eat it every day. Ive never had such a good tasting Mahi- Mahi sandwich. Before you leave, you must buy a bottle of her hot sauce. Its amazing. The service was great. The atmosphere was awesome. Hopefully, well be back before 7 years.
Gladys is a little hidden gem amongst the shoppes - once inside its huge! Locals were inside eating too so ya know it was good! The special of day was fish entree and it was amazing - caught local 2 fish steaks so thick and grilled with a creole sauce that was sweet an savory like WOW - so when in Charlotte Amalia dont go to a fancy restaurant after shopping head here.
The food was really good, good service
Was a fun place to have lunch.
Probably the best food on the island. We had the Kalaloo soup (unique Caribbean soup) and mahi mahi fish sandwich and pina colada as our drink. The food is amazing. The service is very Caribbean style (slow) but the waitress did come back once to see if we needed anything. We liked the atmosphere as well.
Had lunch here, was recommended by a local. So glad we did. The food was so good and the staff was very friendly and answered our questions.
A local restaurant with amazing food and a great blend of items on the menu between stuff you may find familiar and local dishes if you re feeling more adventurous. Regardless everything is delicious!! It s also centrally located and easily walkable to a lot of places if you park by it, also easily walkable if you park by the lot next to Fort Christian.
Went here for lunch while visiting St. Thomas off of a NCL Cruise Ship because of the good reviews online. We noticed several tourists from the cruise ships also dining here. The atmosphere of Restaurant is very nice and clean. We had oxtail with rice, conch fritters and a few adult beverages. The oxtail and rice dishes were very good. The conch fritters were tasty but honestly didnt taste any conch in them. Beverages were also very tasty. The male server we had was excellent, friendly and attentive. I would have definitely given a solid 4-star review of this place if conch fritters were better and the fact that both my wife and I picked up on a weird vibe from the less than friendly female staff that were working there. They were not rude or discourteous but just not friendly.
Food was all hyped up as best breakfast on the island I d say 3 star at best. With all the chickens around you d think they would make an omelette from real eggs not a carton. You can def taste and tell the difference.
Amazing and flavorful food Caribbean food here! Will definitely come back!
Very disappointed . I visited twice. The first day my husband and I arrived for brunch. I ordered curry chicken. The chicken had NO FLAVOR and the gravy was thin and watery. Not at all what I expected. No spices or seasonings. It was simply regular baked chicken with a light watery curry gravy. My husband ordered jerk chicken and again NO FLAVOR. Didn t taste like jerk chicken at all. We decided to give the restaurant a second chance. Returned the next morning for breakfast. I ordered a western omelette. The omelette had NO CHEDDAR CHEESE but was made with thick slices of American cheese which the most novice chef knows does not go in an omelette. Very little vegetables and meat in the omelette as well. NO FLAVOR. NO SALT. Not trying to be mean but my 13 year old grandson could have made a better tasting omelette than that. I immediately regretted my decision to eat at this restaurant again. This restaurant is wayyyy over rated. The only good thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere . Great customer service and friendly people.
I will tell you... This is a local place and the Oxtails are FIRE. A must go place! The staff was incredible and I regret not buying their hot sauce because I was doing carry on. The food is Caribbean with a deep South feel. The locals know you eat great food when you say you visit Gladyss. Another plus, extremely clean bathrooms, Buccees level.
Gladys - we had the stuffed avocado salad, we had to wait 20 minutes while breakfast turned over to lunch. While we waited we had the house special which is Bloody Marys .
Great curry chicken and goat. Super service. We loved it!! Shouldve tried the oxtail - next time!
High volume with harassed staff. Have never had such rude service.
Stopped in for lunch yesterday when we were shopping in Charlotte Amalie. The interior of this cafe is gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. Most of the food was delicious. We tried the soursap colada - very unique flavor and poured strong. The kalaloo soup was the highlight of the meal I wish I would have just ordered a whole bowl of it for myself! Highly suggest ordering this. Giving four stars because the chicken salad sandwich I had was really lacking in any flavor and was dry but the chips were great and I ate some of my husbands food. He got the mahi mahi jerk sandwich with fries. Fish was seasoned and cooked beautifully.
Loved it! Everything was delicious!
Delicious breakfast, good and quick service and reasonable prices
Laid back and good quality for the price
The food was fine, simple breakfast fare with no bells or whistles. Not much veggies in the veggie omelette. The waiter was funny, a bit over the top, but very attentive.
Amazing food! I had catch of the day fish and soup, my friends had the lobster salad and everything was great. The server was nice. Thank you!
Excellent place for a breakfast or lunch. Ive had both and both were super tasty with a local flavour. The staff is really nice and welcoming. Check out the art on the walls. Brings the atmosphere up a notch.
We went here for lunch. We ordered - conch fritters, chips and guac, fried grouper, chicken soup, and the double club with fries. Everything tasted great! Their drinks are made with fresh real fruit which was amazing!! Definitely recommend.
Great food, service and ambience.
My husband and I, decided to visit Glady s for breakfast today, and the service, the food & the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended!! We had the shrimp avocado omelet and my husband went for two eggs, bacon, and home fries and you ll not be disappointed at all! Love the food and portions were large enough to take home! Great atmosphere!
Just stumbled on this place on our last day killing time downtown before heading to the airport. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Had not heard about Glady s at all and Googled for reviews and despite several idiotic reviews on Curried Goat I thought I d decide for myself. I ve eaten goat in Jamaica dozens of times over the past 35 years we ve been going and Gladys goat was spot on point. Perfectly seasoned and tender goat meat with bone (that s how it s supposed to be done people), nicely cooked vegetables, rice & peas and sticky sweet plantains with an ice cold Stripe. My wife got the bowl of delish conch soup and some hot crispy fries. We had so many bad cold French fries this week it was crazy so it was nice to actually get some fresh hot ones for a change. Our server Keith was super engaging and always attentive to our needs. Glady s might be a tourist stop but we had maybe the best overall food experience of the week, unexpectedly and our very last meal. Respect to Glady s!
Just excelent must visit and eat here...
With 6 other people we came on a recommendation. Great food, service and drinks. Highly recommend when in St. Thomas.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! One of our favorite places to eat. We did notice how RUDE tourists are with the staff patience and respect goes a long way!! The food is fantastic and service was excellent!! I got the jerk pork chop and my husband got the stuffed avocado salad we highly recommend both jerk pork chop is ALOT of food I couldn t eat it all.
Always good food and good people here. Very nice omelet and strong coffee. I will go back. For me the Google map shows the entry on the East side but in reality the door is on the West side, look for the sign.
The food and atmosphere were amazing. The one issue was being able to locate the restaurant, I ll recommend asking locals for help in finding the restaurant.
Very good food and service... The Building has a very old look. Awesome place. Off the main road and in the middle of shopping spots....
The food and staff was amazing
A great place for delicious food. The food and service was excellent as well as the decor.
Authentic Caribbean food. Very good. Service was excellent. Try the kalaloo soup!
Nice place to cool off and relax.
The drinks here are amazing!! The mango coolada and strawberry daiquiri were amazing. Bits of fruit inside really help put this over the top! The service was nice but not overly friendly. The meals. Cesar salad with mahi mahi was just ok. The lettuce was almost room temperature and the fish was dry/overcooked. The chicken salad sandwich was soupy and the chicken was dry. Although this place came recommended, we would not make a point to come back.
Beautiful building! We stopped in here for breakfast and the food and drink were sadly underwhelming
We got to explore St. Thomas for a few hours when our cruise ship docked and went on a search for some authentic Caribbean food. Upon speaking with some locals and searching google, we discovered Gladys Cafe. Are we ever glad that we got to dine here! Unfortunately the oxtails were sold out by the time we arrived (always a good sign!) but we enjoyed their curries and the steamed fish was chefs kiss! Steamed to perfection, just the right amount of seasoning DELICIOUS! If we ever come back to St Thomas, we will be back and arriving early so not to miss the oxtails.
The food here was okay but the service from start to finish was awful. The stars were for the food only. Being that this is a place that makes their living serving tourists you would think service would be a priority. Not sure out server said more than two sentences to us. Would not recommend.
Had the jerk chicken of Course. Fantastic. Food
The waitstaff was on point, the food was great, and the restaurant was super authentic.
Great place, recommended by our tour guide. Good food, drinks, atmosphere!!
It was definitely worth a shot! The Jerk Chicken was very good & great on spices. It could be too overwhelming if its your first time eating anything Jerk. The service was great.
Excellent chicken and goat curry. Great customer service
Amazing brunch, the lobster omelet was .
I rarely give 5 stars, but my appetizer here was so delicious, and my server Paulina was so lovely, it earned the 5 stars. This freshly made guacamole was just so delicious, and the chips chewy and crisp. Cruisers- this is right off the main shopping lanes.
Really wonderful place to eat on St. Thomas. The servers were so friendly. The food was delicious. We had a large group of 14 and we called ahead and they easily accommodated us. I had the jerk chicken sandwich which was spiced just right. I tasted my sons jerk mahi mahi and that was good too. We also had fried conch and virgin Pina colada, which were also great. Definitely recommend. You will not be sorry.
Very nice restaurant and the food was delicious .
Good service and one of the only places that we were really able to find with Caribbean food. The curry goat was great. The drinks were good and they had snapper.
The jerk pork chops will have you coming home trying to make them! lol this is the best restaurant on the island seriously!
Ms Pauline was the best
The drinks all use fresh juices, add rum and youll be even happier!. Easy to get to from the cruise ship.port.
The stewed chicken, rice&peas and sweet plantains was cooked to perfection!
Service here was amazing! Ms. Paulina took care of us and was very kind and attentive. I had the curry chicken and it was super delicious! I definitely recommend going here when you visit! Im heading home now still thinking and that food! The place is really cute and inviting, a little hot but it is the island lol.
Cute mom and pop restaurant. Expensive breakfast but typical for the area. Friendly staff.
This is black owned restaurant recommended by Locals. They close early so missed lunch. We came for breakfast in our way to airport. We had fish and grits, sausage platter with pancakes. Generous portions and great prices on food and mimosas. We got oxtails to go for lunch. Looks delicious! Service was great! Place is really clean with nice portraits.
Breakfast was delicious and service was very good.
Everything was wonderful. Great food, nice atmosphere and super service.
Beautiful place, beautiful people, amazing food that will excite the taste buds. Its a must if you are on St. John. Food
Service we received Paul from was absolutely great she was very nice she explained all the specials. She recommended great dishes the food was full of flavor. Had me ready to take a nap after. Highly recommend
Breakfast was really good. Waitress was so sweet and welcoming. Loved the potatoes with perfect eggs...
The best food in Charlotte Amalie!
Great food, very courteous staff. Meet Gladys who came out to say hello.
A must if visiting the island. Just wish we had time to squeeze in another visit while there. The jerk chicken wings were amazing, and I had the best chicken ceasar salad.
Awesome hospitality, so good I recommend to everyone, everywhere I go! Best a local cuisine!
Our first stop in St Thomas aside from our hotel and it was a great start to our trip. Friendly service and yummy sandwiches for lunch! All of the food looked amazing at other tables, we wish we tried a rice dish.
Delicious lunch! Tried the conch chowder and the grouper sandwich. Both were fresh and really tasty. Our waitress was nice and friendly, I would definitely come back to the cafe.
A must stop while in St Thomas. The guacamole and time are chips are out of this world.
Great food with great service! Was a gorgeous walk to get there as well!
The breakfast was so good we made sure we came back for lunch. The atmosphere was cozy. The service was friendly, informative, & professional. The ladies were awes.
I recommend to visit here. The lobster omelet was fresh and delicious . The staff was attentive. The have fresh made juices. I had the ginger beer juice.
Charming cafe with great food and Pauline is very attentive and friendly. Get away from the resorts and enjoy some real service. Their lobster and avocado omelet is amazing!
VERY HOT no air. The food was ok nothing stood out for me really. Our waitress was very sweet and kind. Just too hot to eat
Yall. This is a good food spot. Trust me.
Our server Mini has great customer service. And I love the ambiance.
Tried to eat here today, all was going fine until about 5 minutes after we sat down and a RAT fell from the rafters and fell at our feet before convulsing and dying! Needless to say we got out of there QUICKLY!!!!
My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in St. Thomas, and Gladys Café was highly recommended. We ate here twice for breakfast and lunch, and both times were phenomenal. The food and service were both top notch. Also, make sure you try the Conch Fritters, they are the best on the island!
This is the 4th time Ive been to Gladys. The service is all the same, even when its slow... short, slow, and a little unsociable. The food is underwhelming most of the time. I had the grouper today. Everything was flavor less. I kept forgetting why I didnt go here more. Sorry Glady, I know its not you. This is now the 5th time Ive been here. I was charged $11 for a stoli oj. My friend was charged $15 for a Jamison sprite. My other friend was charged $15 for an el jimidor soda... My friend got a vegetarian omelette for $16, but was charged $15 for an el jimidor drink which is $16 a bottle at a gas station. I just bought a bottle of stoli today at e and m in Hull bay and it was $19.99. The food is great. The service most of the time is mediocre at best. Luckily I knew the server. He is awesome. I dont want to call you out man. This was not his fault. He seemed embarrassed. I know I would be. I work in restaurants and bars so I know some things are out of your control. Glady... Please dont rip people off like this. I recommend bringing your own cocktail. It is legal. Again, food was great, but this again reminded me of why I dont come here.
We got to try Gladys Cafe today for lunch and everything was delicious! The curry chicken is phenomenal and my husband had the special of kingfish. Highly recommend! Our waitress was the cutest lady and so kind! Also of note: best friend plantains we had so far on the island- and we had some at two other local places.
Went back to Gladys café a few days ago on another trip with friends and still a great breakfast.
Food was good and servers were friendly. The Bushwacker was like an alcoholic milkshake. Delicioius!
This is the most overrated place in USVI, we came here for lunch because of the great reviews, and everything was just wrong. We got the wrong order, the chicken was extremely dry, the conch fritters barely had any conch, the best dish was the Caesar salad, which tasted no better than Domino s Caesar salad. DONT COME HERE. It s a tourist trap and the 5 stars are probably rated by people of absolutely no taste. There are much better options close by.
The best food I had in st Thomas
The breakfast waitress was rude which started the experience on the wrong foot. The omelette was watery. The establishment has a nice ambiance but the bathroom door needs a painting. Although the bathroom was clean the bathroom door was not.
Wonderful people and food Im a spicy person their spicy was mild but great
Loved the ambience! My husband and I visited 4x. We took my sister in law and her family when they visited! It was amazing, food was always on point! It s one of the best places to get some authentic Caribbean food on the island! We will visit again!
This place is Amazing! The food is delicious and nice size portions. We were looking for a breakfast spot and their breakfast is over at 11AM. We arrived 10mins before because looking for parking sucks, but I was so grateful that they still asked if we wanted breakfast or lunch when seated. Im pregnant so my mind was definitely set on breakfast. The staff are very sweet and have great quality service. I would love to go back for dinner. I definitely would recommend this place.
Food was wonderful!!! Service was excellent as well. If I m ever in the islands again, I will come back and visit!
Our server was very welcoming!! Food was delicious. If we ever are in St. Thomas again we will visit!!!!!
We tried Gladys Cafe during our St Thomas visit. It came highly recommended so to our surprise it was a bit of a letdown. We visited for lunch on the first day and had the oxtails with rice and vegetables. Our daughter had grilled chicken with rice and veggies. The oxtails lacked flavor which was very disappointing. They were meaty but the flavor was missing. They did mention they ran out of oxtails earlier in the day but were able to secure another batch before the day ended. Maybe that had something to do with the lack of flavor. Our daughter said her chicken was good but nothing special. The next day we gave them another shot for breakfast this time. I had fish and grits with home fries. My wife had pancakes, bacon, and home fries. Our daughter had an omelette with home fries. Again, the fish lacked flavor and the grits were regular. Our daughter liked the omelette. My wife said the pancakes were good and they were a good size. The home fries had the most flavor out of everything. Being that the restaurant was so highly recommended I was expecting more. All in all it was decent, but nothing I would have to return to.
This is the place for oxtail in Charlotte Amalie. Classic flavor prepared by a kitchen that understands the nuances of Caribbean cooking. I wish I could eat it every day! A must try while you re in town.
Food was delicious. Good portions. Highly recommended.
Yea don t come here, terrible service
Always great food, and Pamela (server) is awesome! She even recognized us on our return visit. after a 10 day trip!
Had breakfast here twice on vacation food is excellent service is phenomenal Ms Pauline is the sweetest took the best care she reminds me of one of aunties. Come here if staying in st thomas
Not a fan of the customer service. Vegetables over cooked and had zero flavor. The stew chicken was good. The oxtail was not good(AT ALL). The portion sizes were skimp for the price point. Some days they re on point some days they arent. Consistency is key, and unfortunately this place is inconsistent.
