A super flavorful and mouthwatering bowl! We'll definitely be returning when we visit PEI again!
Must try !!! As a caribbean person who travels for a living it's a treat to find a restaurant that captures the essence and flavors of " home" . Have the Datcha bowl . It's a combination of coconut saffron rice, pigeon peas, sweet fried plantains and you have the option of chicken, beef or veggie. They would offer pepper sauce or spicy sauce ( say yes lol its delicious if you can tolerate) and the food is fresh off the stove! So it's just like eating a hot meal at home. I ate my bowl in a hurry and forgot to take a pic as I was so excited by the aroma . But I did capture the order of the lucky lobster! Which is a fried Bake ( fried bread ), lobster with some spices. as a trinidadian it reminded me of salt fish and bake but with a hint of curry crab, absolutely delicious! If you're caribbean or you enjoy caribbean food, his place would be for you. Best thing I've had on PEI. Would be back to sip on their caribbean cocktails and have another bowl and lobster bake.
This restaurant is in a small shopping mall (market) and offers just a handful of choices. However, the food is truly delicious! My husband and I had the Cod Bokit (a Caribbean sandwich from Guadeloupe) and a chicken Bowl (coconut and turmeric rice, black bean seasoning, fried plantains, chicken and creole sauce). One of the best sandwiches I’ve had with crispy bread. The bowl combined fabulous flavors. The owner is very friendly, too. Highly recommend! Be sure to let them know how spicy you like your food.
Food was excellent and the folk who own/run the place were gentlemen and really chatty. The bowl was really tasty with enough meat and different textured, just the right amount of spice. Definitely recommend. The seating is communal for all of the eateries, not down to Datcha. Still very comfortable and plenty of tables to choose from.
First of all, wow! This was my first time eating some authentic french carribean cuisine and it’s a great introduction— definitely a must for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the culture. Today I tried their chicken datcha bowl and I loved every bit of it! It was fresh, it was light, but hearty as well. It was unbelievable 😳✨ Kudos to the staff who were so kind. Will definitely come back again!!!!
The best food in the island. This sandwich is amazing. The handmade bread is so delicious. The bowl is perfect as well. The spice and flavour are amazing. All the staff are fantastic. Super recommend.
Words cannot even to express how incredible the food was! The Datcha bowl with chicken had the perfect amount of heat (my request) and hubby had the OG bokit with strip loin. Just phenomenal! Make sure you put this place on your list to visit! You won’t be disappointed!
Fantastic food, we had the OG twice on our week stay in Charlottetown. I will be dreaming of this food for a long time to come! Update: we went a 3rd time on our last day and got the cod bokit with sweet potato fries… it was so delicious! This place is a must try!
We were welcomed very warmly by the owner, we tasted the bokits which are made fresh and which are delicious. Bonus for the spicy sauce. The true taste of the West Indies in the heart of Charlottetown, Datcha is validated!
I highly recommend! Super good bokit, very tasty and everything is fresh, what more could you ask for!
Absolutely amazing! Get the chicken bokit! Get it spicey. It is perfection. Legend sandwich in our family
I had a spectacular experience when I tired the bokit. It was flavourful and fresh. I highly recommend
I was visiting PEI and was fortunate enough to have the OG bokit! OMG so delicious. Now I am back in Los Angeles and miss it dearly. Sincerely, the bread, the sauce, the protein; all perfect. then you throw in the outstanding service and you have, in my humble opinion, the perfect sandwich. Eat here and chat up the owner, you will not be disappointed. I wonder if they will ship a frozen sando this way.....
The food was amazing
amazing food! my favourite on the island
So good ! The OG was full of flavour and Caribbean spices ! Tender creamy meat and great homemade bread this is a must try. I cant wait to try the other menu items.
A hidden gem. The bowl is exceptional. And the bokit sandwiches are a delight for any food lovers staying in PEI
Its a yes for me. He sliced the tomato right onto the hot sandwich. Fresh and tasty.
Excellent alternative to classic burgers and pizza! Simple but delicious food! Special mention to plantains!
Tried the chicken and lobster sandwich with mild spice. Both were excellent but the lobster one was special
Yum! The handmade bokit sandwiches are delicious - still thinking about that crunch of the first bite days later. Sweet potato fries and sauce were great too!
Best sandwich in Charlottetown. Spicy OG was incredible. Get it
Got to experience this spot during our visit from Toronto today. Great food, delicious meals and a amazing atmosphere. If your in the area, you have to check out the food!
Walking around Founders Hall when I passed by this place. The amazing smell drew me in. We had the Chicken and Lobster Bokit (Sandwiches) and they were amazing. That fried bread alone, I could eat with delicious sauce by itself. Highly recommends this place. The price is definitely worth it.
Just finished my OG sandwich and I can happily say it s one of the best I ve had in a long time!!! Viens dans Le mile end a Montréal tu va faire fureur. Merci beaucoup!!! Impeccable
10/10 food - best food I ate on PEI
Had the chicken bokit, added some bacon. Absolutely delicious!
The Bokit sandwich is great. They expanded their space and menu. Food
Delicious food!!!! They make their own fried bread. My favourite are the chicken and the beef. It is spicy, probably mild to medium depending on your tolerance level but sooooo yummy !!!
Best lobster sandwich I ve had, makes the traditional ones seem a bit boring now. Great flavors and worth it.
This was the 1st French Caribbean Soul food I ever had and I definitely recommend! The food, cocktails and service were above and beyond!!
The best Caribbean sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. No cap
It was amazing! Getting it every time I m in town!
Chicken Bokit and Lobster Bokit are amazing!
Real flavors Good portions Perfect I recommend +++
Excellent food, great conversation! Will come back next time I m in PEI
The food is amazing and the owner is such a wonderful person!
Some of the best food we ve had in a while. Had the chicken bokit with sweet potato fries, and the datcha bowl and both were fantastic.
Hidden gem! Go here-trust me
Tried the OG sandwich with extra bacon and it was all-around excellent.
Food was fantastic! Get a bokit and then head next door to order a pint to go with it!
It s been almost a year since I had Datcha on my trip to PEI and I m still thinking about it. It was the food highlight of the trip - I tried both the chicken, cod and egg versions of their sandwiches. Very delicious!
Randomly found this gem of a place in the Founder s food hall. The bowl was amazing and familiar tasting as a person from the Caribbean.
Had a bit of a time deciding what to have for lunch at the Founders Hall before finally settling with Datcha; glad I did! I went with the vegetarian Datcha bowl This dish consisted of rice, jackfruit, beans and plantains. I had it at the spiciest level and it was absolutely delicious. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian Datcha bowl is amazing!
Chicken datcha bowl was yummy! Rice was flavourful
The OG Bokit is my go to. Get it with some heat!
Damn, that s good! Best food I had in my trip! Packed full of flavor with a great kick!
Always a pleasure to make this stop to eat a good Bokit. Fresh food of the day. Welcoming and friendly staff. Looking forward to returning there on our next getaway.
So damn good every time.
A delight, the chicken sandwich! Full of great flavor!
Got the mild beef o.g and the wife had the chicken sandwich. The spice was perfect, not too spicy but had a kick. The beef was perfectly cooked and the bread was unbelievable
This is the best breakfast sandwich I ve ever had. The homemade and fresh bread is a winner!
It was the best Breakfast, perfect spic and toppings completed it.
Was spicy and really good, will go back again.
ate here over the holidays while visiting PEI and I must admit it was phenomenal. I had the special, It was a turmeric rice, with chicken, plantain and beans bowl that was a full flavour BOMB. It was unreal. The chef was a kind guy and I would highly recommend eating here.
Had a delicious Datcha Bowl for lunch today, glad to have stumbled across this place for an excellent, filling lunch. Looking forward to trying to drop by again soon! Food
Great Food! Tried Datcha for the first time today and it did not disappoint! I had the chicken bokit, the bread is made fresh while you order, and the chicken is tender with just the right amount of spice. The homemade hot sauce is great. So glad I found this place, cant wait to try everything on the menu!
Have enjoyed a few different items are all were delicious. Very large portions.
Had the cod bokit - the bread is excellent, and the cod filling was super tasty. The owner asked how spicy I wanted the sandwich and got it just right. Cant wait to go back and try other options on the menu! Cest aussi toujours un plaisir de se faire servir en français à Charlottetown! :)
One of the best spots in town. Great food, cant beat the chicken Bokit and bowls.
Some of, if not THE best food youll get on PEI. Fresh made dough, entirely cooked right in front of you. Its genuinely delicious, fresh, and feels good to eat! You cannot go wrong with any of the bokit options, but the OG is my favorite! Youre still reading this? Go get one!!
Great food. The Bokit is delicious and nothing like it on the island. The Bowl is an explosion of flavours. Definitely recommend.
I had the beef bokit and fried plantains and it was so good I ll definitely be coming back super friendly service too!! 10/10
Great food! Loved the datcha
Delicious!! Great service too - highly recommend
Excellent customer service & food.
I had the og bokit. I feel like a jerk for not trying Caribbean Street food before because it was incredible!!
This place is amazing the chicken bokit was the perfect amount of crispy, soft and flavourful! Highly recommend
Cod bokit was delicious, people serving were wonderful:)
This is the most flavourful food Ive had in a while. Our order was prepared to be quite mild to accommodate my toddler but still packed with seasoning and so satisfying. Highly recommend the bokit, little fry bread sandwiches with crushable fillings. We also had a datcha power bowl with spiced chicken, black beans, fried plantain, and coconut rice that you toss together. I want to eat this every day! Kid-friendliness: Very adaptable to our childs spice tolerance and they have a small kids menu as well!
One of the best meals in PEI. Only regret is I should have asked for more plantains. Dining on the patio in the breeze was fabulous. Highly recommend.
Excellent sandwich. I wish we had this here as well. The sauces are phenomenal with such an amazing depth of flavours!!
Visiting PEI from Toronto and this was the best meal I had on the island, both in taste and value. I had the chicken bokit 2 days out of the 3 we were in PEI. The flavour is incredible and Ill be recommending Datcha to anyone visiting Charlottetown!
I bought a chicken bokit, I loved it and it was the best thing I ever ate! Absolutely have to try this if you visit PEI!! Amazing guy, amazing food
Great service and friendly staff. Food was delicious! Food
The food is fantastic and the staff and owner are making you feel like home. We Iove it
Great, tasty food and amazing service. 10/10
The chicken bokit was amazing, will definitely be getting that again. The owner is awesome, super friendly and definitely knows his stuff. I am hoping to go here again before leaving PEI. Kid-friendliness: Large open eating area with plenty of seating. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair ramp and handicap opening doors.
The bowls were amazing. Everything is so fresh and made to order. I can t wait to go back and try the bokit! Eat here.
It was a unique experience. The fry bread on the sandwiches were flavorful and their meats were very well seasoned. It was French creole and their service was pretty good. Though they were hard to understand because they spoke French. This was better than expected. I definitely recommend it!!!
Very interesting and tasty and perfect if youre looking for a bit of heat in your sandwich.
Excellent food. I had the breakfast Bokit. Superb. !!!!!! Food
We went for the chicken bokit and we ended trying the Datcha bowl and the chicken. They were amazing! Next time we ll try the OG!
My first time here, and I asked for anything beef Wow!!! Turns out this is now my favorite food!!!! Great food is an understatement!!! Wonderful staff I will be back
Sick! A real taste of the Caribbean!!!
The food is excellent and represents the Caribbean Its a must
First time in PEI and I fell in love with this restaurant. The bowl was delicious and the OG Bokit was very tasteful. Friendly and efficient staff. I highly recommend this spot. Food
One of our favourite places to eat in Charlottetown! Have tried all the bokits but am always craving the chicken with spicy sauce and plantains. Everything is so fresh, and is always deliciously consistent with their fried homemade bread. the food hall is also very accessible and kid-friendly.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options are delicious Wheelchair accessibility: Food hall is very accessible Food : 5/5 |
Quickly became a staple in my take out routine. Always fresh and packed with flavor. Can really tell they take a lot of pride in their work Vegetarian options: Lots of tasty vegetarian dishes Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
Food is always so good! The bowls make the perfect lunch.
The food is excellent. Very tasty but the reason Im giving 3 stars and Im aware that Im the only one giving less than 5 stars...is that its just not enough food. We went twice before, once this past fall, 2022 and then just recently in the super busy season and both times we could have eaten another lunch. And for $16 each plus tax, thats very disappointing. I dont think we overeat, I weigh 120 lbs, but its just not enough food. : (. P.s. both times ordered datcha which comes with rice, beans and chicken. Just wanted to get this out there because nobody else is mentioning this...I dont know... maybe its just us...
Always good vibes and food is delicious
Honestly super great. Everything was perfect. Nothing to complain about. I recommend.
a real culinary journey to Guadeloupe, Tks
A pleasure to rediscover the taste of the West Indies overthere, and especially to see how much it is appreciated....wawww
Very good establishment. A welcome worthy of the name. I recommend because I loved it!
Very good. Recommended.
Amazing experience, amazing food.
Good caribean food. thank you
The food is okay. The bowl has your traditional Caribbean items such as beans, plantain, and protein. Nothing remarkable. The only issue is that it s really overpriced. The 20$ bowl should not be more than 10$. The portions are really tiny.
the food is so tasty we love it
The food here is incredibly unique and smells wonderful. All the ingredients are of the freshest quality. They pay great attention to the customers experience! My personal favorite is their Beef Bokit. Its absolutely delightful!
After you have their bowls or Bokit sandwiches you will crave them all the time. They are so good and filling. Highly recommend to try one of each.
The food here is very fresh and the staff is also very friendly!
Just excellent! Amazing! There are unique flavors
A really nice place to discover! Everything was delicious and they were super nice! We will come back with pleasure if we can! Super nice discovery! We are traveling and passing through Charlottetown. We loved it! The service was very friendly and the chef was super pleasant!
Really unique. We are touring around the east coast and this place came recommended. I had the cod bokit and it was bomb. When asked about spice level I debated between medium and hot and settled on medium, And it was enough to make my nose run. My companion has a low spice tolerance and asked for as mild as possible and was happy to find it still very flavorful and a bit of heat to tingle her lips. Most places asking for mild the food end up quite bland.
So delicious! Will definitely order again! Super delicious and flavorful bokit. Amazing sauce and beef was perfectly cook. Datcha is surely yummy and best weekend option place to order.
Really interesting datcha bowls . Excellent portion and service. The chef even came to give us advice on things to do. Really nice and spicy if you prefer it that way. Was nice to have it on rainy day like today.
Scrumptious!!! Eat here asap! Food
Amazing food, fresh & flavourful. Friendly service
LOVE my 10 hour shift on Fridays at OH HEY Founders Hall location the music the other vendors the people AND cuz I treat myself to the most amazing lunch/supper this datcha bowl! Mmmm SO GOOD!! Soooo filling and just wonderful real food
Had the beef Bowl, It was amazing.. So much food, Enough for 2 meals. Owner very courtious. Restaurant very clean. I will be back. Parking: Lots of parking.
Cant get enough of this place! That salt-cod calls to me. Honestly I take my guests anytime they come and we are never disappointed. So unique and satisfying.
Authentic and delicious bokits (I know because I am from Guadeloupe where bokits are from) The bread was golden and delicious and the flavours were amazing! Good job Val! We actually came back for seconds the day before we left! We tried the chicken, the beef and the lobster and have only one regret: we live in Vancouver and we can t bring some home with us!
Amazing and authentic! We were visiting Charlottetown from Vancouver, and when we found that we could get bokit here, we knew that wed have to stop by Datcha. We were only in town for a few days, but this was so tasty that we visited multiple times. The bokit sandwiches were easily better than those in Paris. The bread is fried to perfection, and the fillings are flavourful with just the right amount of spice. Highly recommended! Some of the best French Caribbean food outside Guadeloupe. -An envious Vancouverite
Simple and outstanding Caribbean food. Will come again next opportunity. Dietary restrictions: Easy to avoid gluten here Food : 5/5 |
Amaziy food and great service!
Really tasty and the employee there was super friendly.
We had several items from this fine establishment. The most memorable one is the lobster datcha. It s basically a budget priced lobster roll but at 60% the price . That thing was delicious and fresh. Very happy!
Came for the chicken, Ill be back for the cod. Hot sauce + creole has a great heat. Add a ginger beer
Stopped in for a quick lunch - we tried the chicken creole and beef bokkit as well as the plantains. Absolutely fantastic and full of flavour! We will definitely come back again.
Great gem of a spot, quality fresh ingredients. If you want to try something unique, this is the spot.
Fast, friendly, fresh, fabulous! Cod (you may be surprised) with fresh vegetables and Caribbean spice on amazing made-on-site bread! Talk to Val. He loves to talk. Reasonable price for a healthy, delicious lunch.
Each meal is prepped to order, the quality is amazing, and the staff are very friendly! Will definitely be back soon!
We had the cod bokit which was delicious! The fresh baked bread was excellent.
Stopped in for lunch and had the Chicken Bokit. It was amazing! Crispy outside with a tasty inside. Perfectly spiced with a nice balance of salt and spicy heat. It was so good I had to go back for a second one. The service was also superb.
Had a delicious, fresh cod bokit! Spicy and tasty. Was more expensive than expected (~$15) but the bun is made fresh in front of you (fried bread) so it s also about the experience. Would come again!
Delicious datcha bowls for dinner!! - Will be back -
Had the Datcha chicken creole bowl and it was delicious! It had all the flavours of the Caribbean and sooo fresh! Will definitely be back.
Sweet good
Best spot to eat in Charlottetown, food is always fresh and has the perfect amount of spice. 10/10
Friendly & knowledgable owner. Everything was cooked perfectly. Opted for the beef but will be back for the cod. 10/10 would go back
Have really enjoyed their food and service. No vegetarian items on the menu but they have always accommodated and made yummy substitutes!!
Such amazing food from an unassuming place. We got the Datcha Bowl and it definitely didn t disappoint. The meat is so tender and the whole dish is full of flavour. The owner is super friendly and went above and beyond in his service. Highly recommend!
My sister and I are here late one afternoon and loved every bite of our meals! We got the chicken bokit and the datcha bowl with their hot sauce! Spicy but delicious and quick service with a smile!! Would recommend to anyone.
Update: still fantastic, when we return to the island we try to have our cheat meal here. Its fantastic, made to order. Also to drink they have Caribbean-style juices so try some! So this is another amazing gem of a place of international food you wont find just anywhere - and Charlottetown has it with easy access. They serve bokit here, which is a cross between a hamburger, sandwich, and flat brioche bread. The simplicity of the idea combined with amazing ingredients and OMG THE BREAD combine for a pretty incredible experience. Options are beef patty, chicken, or shredded cod as the protein - all great options in our group. Dessert options are next but this is an amazing little place - but make sure you watch their hours. Drink with a ginger beer for an authentic Guadeloupe experience. Plus the owner is awesome! Delicious. Theres a bit of a kick in the creole sauce, and it was awesome. Parking: You should walk and bike here - easy access and a bike able part of the city. But available. Kid-friendliness: Kids would love this, although its a bit greasy.
My friend and I had a Datcha chicken bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it! We had it with a medium amount of spiciness, that with the sweetness of the plaintains was absolutely delicious! We absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different to try out!
Great food! Great service! I would love to return and try more things!
One of my favourite places to get some food. All the food is delicious, my favourite is the Chicken Bokit. The owner is wonderful, very nice, and really cares about the quality of his ingredients. Highly recommended
This restaurant is located in a building with several other restaurants. There is a lot of seating both inside and outside so you can take your time and enjoy the meal. We ordered the cod and chicken bokit which were both delicious.
Very nice clean -food make very fresh -saw review 5* love to try it - the man staff very funny and friendly - after wait 10 mint exciting to have 1 st bite very salty ..they should test it again bery disappointed
Wonderful experience !! I recommend . Really tasty and yummy . You guys should try.
The first time we tried datcha it was a taste of home, we have enjoyed all menu items and it is always a 10/10 experience. There is nothing else like it on the island, the flavours are perfect and it has just the right amount of spice it was love at first bite! Apart from the food the owners are fabulous, you can tell they take great pride in their food and it shows. We look forward to every visit, a must try in PEI!
Very delicious and lots of flavour
OMG this was so freaking delicious!!!
Doesnt get any fresher!! Had the Cod Bokit. Sitting here waiting to get hungry again so I can try the Creole Chicken next. A must try in the Food Hall.
Amazing food . The bokit was just fantastic. The bun and meat with just great . I will definitely go again. Just full of flavors
Best bok-it in town! This is Guadeloupian street food & is made with fresh bread. The bread is so delicious... crunchy on the outside yet soft & fluffy on the inside. I got the beef bok-it which was like a cheeseburger but much better. It had good heat to it yet it did not overpower any of the other flavors. So tasty, so fresh!
I had the Chicken Bokit today and it was soooooo gooooddd!!!
Looking for a tasty sandwich for lunch? So good and fresh!
Really friendly staff. Good customer service. Food is awesome. Advising everyone I know to this nice place. Food is great. Everything tastes good. Parking: Lots of parking space Kid-friendliness: Peaceful place for kids Wheelchair accessibility: Spacious unit
Had a chicken bokit and sweet potato fries. The food was unique, well spiced and interesting but a touch dry. 8 mL of sauce could have made all the difference. Their sweet potato fries are unmatched, perfectly cooked. The owner is also quite friendly and we enjoyed the interactions we had with him.
The cod bokit was super delicious. Cant wait to get it again
I stopped in to pick up and drop off items at Founders Food Hall and the smell of the food was irresistible! The taste was even better! I ordered the Datcha bowl and Beef Bokit, and I will eagerly order it again! The flavors were perfect and the amount of food was just right for both my boyfriend and I! Both were absolutely delicious and we couldnt decide which we liked better as they were both so good!
