Reopen on Jan 16th 2024!
The food was flavourful. However, the service time is ridiculously long. I had to wait over an hour for my food. The store literally had no one dining in when I walked in! And the people who came after me got served first.
Feedback for the Owner: Food Quality: The food flavors are quite good compared to other places in Atlantic Canada, which is a positive aspect. Cleanliness: The environment needs improvement. Specifically, there was a table behind us that remained uncleaned for over an hour after the previous customers left. Service Timing: With only one chef on staff, wait times can be excessive, especially for larger parties. We waited an hour for our dishes, which were served one at a time rather than all at once. Suggestions: Consider either lowering the number of seatings or hiring additional kitchen staff to improve service efficiency and reduce wait times.
Lovely place, the server was very helpful. The meal was superb!! Would come again, Must note that the lobster is sold per pound, that being said the lobster was delicious with different flavours to choose from😊
While the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were friendly and attentive, I was disappointed with the portion sizes of the dishes. The food was flavorful . but the portions were surprisingly small for the price. I have to order more rice . which was quite disappointing!!! If you're looking for a place with great ambiance and don't mind smaller portions, this might be a good choice. However, if you have a hearty appetite, you might want to consider other options. BTW Don’t be fooled by the menu . Lots of food actually marked sold out which is weird.
This place has authentic Chinese food. Quality comparable to any top end Chinese restaurant in Toronto! They even premade our meal ahead of time as we rushing from our golf round to our airport. Must try if you crave Chinese food in PEI!
Delicious and fresh dishes with fantastic service! Tried the Yunnan Stewed Beef Rice Noodles, Stir Fry Beef & Mushroom with ginger and onion Sizzling Hot Plate, Singapore Noodle and House Curry with Beef, Springrolls and some bubble tea milk drinks. All delicious. 🍜🧋
The food was amazing! Welcomed by friendly staff, you could tell they were excited for you to experience their yummy food. Our waitress provided recommendations which lead us to try the fried tofu. Having been a vegetarian in the past I can say this was truly the best tofu I've ever had! And I've had a lot. Plus their soup and beef noodles were delicious.
The best traditional Chinese food I’ve had in Canada. In the Chinese food desert of PEI, I never expected incredible Chinese food, especially in a Mexican-named restaurant. Buen Amigo. When we walked in for a Saturday lunch, all tables were filled with Chinese families, dining at big tables. Best sign of great food. Huge servings, big enough to share! We ordered a Hong Kong black pepper noodle dish and an eggplant pork dish. To die for!!!
This is one of best Chinese restaurant in East coast of CA. Large size and delegate service As well.
The fried rice has a lot of shrimps, the fried noodles with soy sauce are delicious, and the black pepper sizzling beef is great. Thank you to the store for letting me have the memories of 30 years ago, and the service of the boss lady is very kind!
What a good restaurant! The food was delicious, portions generous. We found a wide variety of dishes that seemed very authentic to us! We highly recommend going there if you are in Charlottetown and want a good culinary experience.
The food is unexpectedly tasty. The best Chinese food we have had in the past 30 years. This restaurant is a gem!
Cantonese/Hong Kong style food is something that is greatly appreciated on the Islands food scene. However the service was really slow and some dishes had a milder taste. I wonder if it is to satiate the palates of the European Islanders, nevertheless.
**5 stars ** I cant express how grateful I am to Buen Amigo Restaurant for making my daughters birthday extra special! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the staff went above and beyond. They even prepared a little extra for her. The warm and friendly service. Thank you, Buen Amigo, for your kindness and exceptional service!
My favorite Asian food when I m in Charlottetown. PEI
If you want Cantonese style lobster, this is the place for you.
Our first visit and wont be our last. The food was a decent quantity and very good quality. Our server was very attentive and the food didnt take long to come to the table. We had the brisket, chicken fried rice, and the dry garlic ribs. I am now a big fan of the ribs. I like the idea of buying different dishes and sharing.
Everything was amazing!! The food is authentic Cantonese food! Service was great! The best Chinese food you can find in Atlantic Canada. I ordered soy sauce fried noodle, Yangzhou fried rice, eggplant, hot chili beef, garlic fried vegetable, deep fried fish fillet. We cleaned off all the dishes because they are so delicious definitely go back in a heartbeat!!! And the table was roomy.
Good but not the best.
Im visiting from Toronto and came here for dinner with with a few friends. The menu selection was very impressive but I was a bit hesitant to try this place because Im Chinese so I have pretty high standards for authentic Asian food. That said, I was very happy about the quality of the food. It was all very flavourful and authentic! We got a variety of dishes to try. We ordered the Yeung Chow Fried Rice with Chicken, Soya Sauce Chow Mein, Black Pepper Beef on sizzling hot plate, and Eggplant with minced pork (our crowd favourite) with a side or white rice. The servers were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place. Will certainly be coming again!
they are not treating their business seriously. every time i went there i cant even place an order the chef was away i either had to wait till the chef come back or i come another day this is really ridiculous i attempted 4 times!!!
The worst food in this city, peoples are rude, got sick after eating their food, try to avoid if you do not want to go to hospital
Best Chinese restaurant in Charlottetown
The eel rice is okay, the rice noodles and boiled fish taste average.
The number 80 is delicious! Great prices and Service. Ask the server for their favorite dish for trying new flavours.
My husband and I really enjoy Chinese food. We ve lived all over Canada and are always disappointed when eating out Chinese. My husband is from NYC and every time we go we have the best Chinese. This place hits it out of the park!!! Absolute best Chinese food in Canada so far! Portions were generous. The food flavourful and the staff excellent. We will be coming back for sure the next time we are in PEI
The food was awesome and plentiful. Best Chinese food Ive tasted in canada. The prawn curry was more like what Im used to in England. However, the service was abit slow with a ten minute wait between meals being served. There was only 2 of us. Also, the restaurant was bloody freezing, no heating whatsoever. Everyone was sat in their coats. Also, no liquor licence. This place would be awesome with a liquor license. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will defo visit again
It was very delicious. We ordered the signature dishes: eel rice, boiled fish, fish-flavored eggplant, and fat sausage noodles. The landlady is warm and polite.
As a noodle enthusiast, would recommend soy sauce chowmein. Best in town!
Best noodles in PEI. Absolutely perfect
Great taste
Best Chinese food on PEI. Love their chow mein. Spring rolls amazing. Always chooseing this Chinese food. Vegetarian options: Here is a lot of vegetarian options
Very good Chinese food, prices a bit high. First time the waitress was very attentive, second time was another one and not that aware of what we needed. Nice atmosphere too.
The beef noodle is good, though very little beef. The baked rice with eels was meh, not good not too bad. Service was super slow, I guess it was because we went there on Christmas Day. Lots of dishes were unavailable. Will come back to try other dishes.
Both times we ve come here near the alleged opening time, it hasn t been ready. Today it is completely closed and vacant despite google saying it s open. The food was delicious if you can get it.
Don t go any more! Shit
Food is good but really have to wait, over an hour wait
Fried rice and noodles are great! We had a very nice chat with owner about PEI and she was being really friendly and nice, definitely one of the best spot here in PEI
Wonderful Chinese food!
Best Chinese dishes in Charlottetown!
The taste of food is original Chinese food, My family loves the various types of dishes. Also the veggies are great Vegetarian options: The eggplant dish is soft and delicious. Parking: In downtown area, but can park at least 15 cars
The food at Buen Amigo was fantastic. As a Chinese person born in Hong Kong, I can attest that the flavours are authentic and the size of the servings are generous. I will definitely go back to try other items.
Food is delicious
Celebrated a party for ten. Every dish was delicious. Sweet and sour dishes used fresh pineapple. Rice was done to perfection. Best Chinese food in Charlottetown.
Tend to be asian style gourmet food. Offer noodles with soup during the lunch time and Chinese cuisine during the dinner.
The best Chinese food in the Ocean Province, bar none. The boss is kind-hearted. Great service.
Good price and very tasty food ! I like this restaurant!
It s the best Chinese restaurant on PEI. We went there so many times!
Very authentic chinese food, with great service! The food is very authentic and delicious, and the service is also great!
Sooo good, will definitely be going back!
Excellent Chinese food, I mean authentic Chinese food, professional services as well.
Very good, a must try when you come to the island!
Wonderful restaurant! Ferry technical failure can t stop us drive from Halifax for their fantastic meal!
Good service. Some menu items were no longer available.
Their crispy tofu is amazing, easily one of the best I have ever had. Very friendly staff and amazing food.
I went to PEI for the first time from NS. I heard from my friends that the Chinese food here is better than the Chinese food in Halifax, so I came here specially to eat. I only ordered a bowl of beef rice noodles and a plate of fried chicken wings, but the taste was still good, comparatively. It suits my taste as a northerner, but I feel that there are insufficient staff. The proprietress is very enthusiastic but she feels that it is too busy for one person, especially during the peak dining period. The price is a bit expensive, but overall it is recommended!
Very delicious! There are many delicious Chinese foods in Behemoth Village. The eggplant and eel fried rice recommended by the boss lady are amazing. I went there to eat for two days during the two days on the island. My children also said that they are the best Chinese food they have ever eaten. There is sweetness in the dishes, but not too much. , which is very acceptable for those of us who love salty food. We called in advance to order the food, and when we went there we couldnt wait for a while before eating it. The service was also very good. They asked us if we wanted cold water or hot water. We were children drinking cold water and adults wanted hot water. The lady boss came with two pots every time, which was very considerate. The two best meals I had during my trip were at his home! recommend
Really good food, excellent service. I Will come back on my next visit to PEI.. thank you!!
The food tastes great, recommended
The food tastes the best among Chinese food on the island
Great food!
Great Chinese food
Best Chinese food ever!!
Food are all good!
The food is great and it tastes like authentic Cantonese/HK style dishes. It was a surprise to find this amazing Chinese food restaurant in PEI !
Im from Toronto visiting PEI, so I didnt have much expectation on Chinese food in Charlottetown. However, I had the best stir fried beef rice noodle recently even comparing to those in Toronto. We also had a beef congee which is okay but not the best. If I ever be back in Charlottetown again, Ill definitely eat here and try other dishes.
Wow, great food and fast service. My new favorite place in town I think.
Nice chinese food
The restaurant is very clean, the taste is great, and the service is excellent. It s the most filling meal I ve had in a few days of travel.
Good
This is by far the best noodle soup I have ever had in Canada. It s flavorful, mouthwatering, and mesmerizing. It is the best comfort food. I will definitely come back :)
Bad experience. Put 10 people in a small table, wait for so long time, I guess there is only one cooker. All dishes taste bad. Lastly, cooker told us could eat at somewhere else.
Had very bad experience. Firstly, the dish is extremely salty, secondly it takes very long time to serve the food. Last, the price on menu is different from the actual price and they won t tell you upfront so you may want to check the bill before paying, this is fraud to me.
Good
Food was average for a small town Chinese restaurant but the service was somewhat lacking. Despite a large menu, we had to be told separately, three times, that the specific dish we wanted wasnt available that day. Frustrating to have to let the waiter leave, decide on a new dish, then be told to choose again...it wouldve made more sense to just tell all customers in the beginning that 1/3 of the menu was unavailable. Also, one person in our group suffered from terrible stomach pain and vomiting after this the same day - no evidence that food here was the cause, and we did all have a bunch of seafood+heat exposure around the same time, but still, just a precautionary warning for those weak to spicy/oily foods.
This is the worst restaurant in Canada, food is super suck, service even worse, must be avoid by people who visit PEI
Best Chinese food
My wife saw someone mentioning this restaurants Yunnan rice noodles on YT, so she came here for lunch when she came to PEI this time. Ordered a beef Yunnan rice noodles and eggplant stew. The beef stew is very good, but the eggplant stew is slightly sweet (I don t know why it is sweet). After returning to the hotel, I realized that the bill was wrong and that it was too much. I didn t pay attention to the matter of a few dollars at the time. I just touched my nose and forget it. The day before leaving PEI, my wife said she wanted to come here for dinner. This time I ordered beef noodles and boiled fish. The results were very different. The beef was not stewed enough, and there was a lot of fat. The noodles were chewy and soft. It was really not good, so I gave up before finishing the beef noodles. But the boiled fish is good. Conclusion: Things here can be hit and miss and not very consistent. If I come to PEI again, I probably won t come again.
Nice waitress however super slow. Be prepared long wait.
The taste of rib is very bad. Waiting time is long.
The proprietress is very enthusiastic and the food is delicious, especially the cumin lamb chops and minced pork eggplant! It is highly recommended for Chinese people who go to PEI to try it. It is worth a try. The only slight drawback is that it usually takes a long time to wait, so you need to calculate the time in advance. But the food is worth looking forward to
This is the last time. The prices paid are different than those on the menu. No server tells us that. We find the differences after payment.
This is where you could get authentic mainland Chinese food! The owner is super friendly and helpful in recommending dishes. Very nice but busy place. Do have to wait a bit for the rush hours. But truly worth it. Every bite is just delightful.
New owner and new opened. We went there for our lunch without reservation. It was all full. We had the last table, but we waited for quite a long time. But but, the good is worth the wait. The beef, eggplant, fried rice, noodle were just perfect. We absolutely will come again, and I wont forget call them to make an order before going.
Very tasty Chinese food. If you want genuine Chinese dishes, definitely give it a try. It s very busy. It may take a while for your food to arrive.
The portion of the dish is very small, each dish costs more than 20 dollars, and when it comes to the fried mandarin fish, there are only a few pieces. The beef brisket is very salty, the fried pork ribs are a small bowl, and the seasonal vegetables are bean sprouts and broccoli. I don t know where so many good reviews come from... I ordered the steam pot chicken but it wasn t cooked because I came late (8pm), I ordered the porridge but it wasn t cooked, I ordered the cumin mutton but it wasn t cooked and I ordered the lamb chops. Mullet roe.
I came here after reading the recommendation from Xiaohongshu. It turns out that basically every dish is expensive, limited, and tastes very average.
From Vancouver and we have so much Chinese food there so our Chinese food standard is pretty high. Did not expect much from this Buen Amigo but was pleasantly surprised. Dishes came out together at a good speed. The food was also tasty, authentic and lots of wok air which is a good thing, you can hear the gas sound really go like vooooo!! when they are cooking. Can say, definitely a fair price for good food, but taxes are high if you havent been to the Maritimes before. About 15 parking spots up front of the restaurant, more than enough for the size of the restaurant , so if all parking spots are taken that means you are not getting a seat inside anyway. Recommended, and will visit again the next time we are in Prince Edward Island.
The portion is substantial, tastes great, and so friendly!
The food tastes so good!
Order a soup noodle and fried noodle. Tasted great and fairly priced.
Great food. To be honest, PEI ingredients are limited and there are not many Chinese people. This restaurant is a very carefully prepared Chinese food. I like it. It is worth eating.
I came to the island for 2 days and ate here both days. It was very delicious and the price was not very expensive. Recommended~
Excellent food. Great portions. Service was fantastic. We will definitely be back, and will send people who appreciate more authentic food here they wont regret it!
This place was great and we will definitely be back. The menu selection was huge, the portions were pretty large, the flavor was amazing, price was reasonable, and the staff was awesome. It is nice to have more authentic Chinese restaurants on the island instead of the North Americanized food that typically plagues the island. Overall a very pleasant experience. Keep up the good work!
The best Chinese restaurant in town
This kind of restaurant should have closed long ago. Its expensive, tastes terrible, and the ingredients are very stale.
Delicious, authentic Chinese food.
Chicken wings are great and the noodle soup was delicious!
too spicy to me. But tasted good.
This is the best Chinese restaurant I have tried in the PEI
I m from Toronto, all small town Chinese food are disappointments, except this one, way above my expectations. Five stars for a small town Chinese food restaurant. A bit salty though, otherwise, very authentic and tasty.
The food was decent and the service was ok. Will come back if have any chances
The store offers rice noodles during lunch time, and the quality is definitely top notch even compared against some of the popular rice noodle equivalents in Toronto. The staff is super helpful and courteous, and if you have been clam digging or went on deep sea fishing , you can call the store to inquire about cooking your catch for you.
The restaurant does not try to impress with its decor, ambiance or service. It does present you with authentic Chinese cuisine in its simplest form. All the ingredients are highlighted and accentuated by customary Chinese ingredients and flavors. Look at the menu and try something a little different, it may surprise you.
The rice noodles are very good and can be DIYed. The boss lady is super friendly. We went there at noon and ordered 4 flavors and 5 bowls of rice noodles. Each one was very good. I recommend the side dishes of pig trotters and pig ears. The drink of Pauluda was very good.
Food delicious!!
High quality Chinese food. Delicious, many many options, quick service, reasonable price. Definitely going again.
A solid, authentic Chinese place. The food there is pretty well priced and tasty. I especially liked the dry-fried green beans and lobster.
Thats a great place to eat with family. The traditional food make me feel great, likes go back to home. No matter U are chinese or not, U should try here
Not my kind of food. I didnt think my chicken so asked to have it cooked more and they wouldnt. Said it was dark meat. I couldnt eat it. It did have an off smell. They still charged us full price. There was another table that all 4 left half their meal. Wont ever be back.
Tried 7 different dishes all great
Absolutely delicious.
Very good Chinese food and friendly staff. Pretty popular place for locals.
Great place Delicious
Great assortment of Chinese food.
The most cozy and frienly place I ve ever been
Great tasting authentic food with a lot of flavor. However Customer not always being taken care
It was so so good, couldnt believe how good it was, best Chinese food I have ever had. I ordered vegetable with mushrooms and white rice. Seriously delicious, one dish, 2 people, great price for 2 people to eat. My friend got 2 spring rolls to go home with and he said they were the best spring rolls in his life. These guys know their stuff!
First time there. Our order was wrong but very tasty.
Great takeout and good portions.
Awesome food great staff
The porridge is good and the stir-fried noodles are top notch.
From One of my Vietnamese classmates Recommendation. The dishes were good. And everytime you dont need to wait long time. Big plates so you can order less than you imaged. If the waiter gave more smiles and warm services, I will give five points.
Amazing ramen!
Decent food portions and flavour. Food took a while and seemed that the chef was only able to work on one dish at a time. We had to wait about 5 min in between each dish.... Decor is lacking but if you just want in and out Chinese food without ambience its fine....
This is always excellent. Huge menu. Great staff. Awesome food. By far the best real chinese food on pei
Very authentic Chinese food, I liked their Rice Vermicelli with Satay Beef and soup, I ordered it every time.
This is the best true Chinese food in PEI. You will never be disappointed here as the food and service are incredible.
The best Chinese food on the island and always very consistent, staffs are friendly and attentive.
