Me and my friend asked our server who was very old, for water when we ordered our food, “I give water to everyone” Is what they said but the whole 30 minutes we were there she never gave us our water, we had to buy bottled water from the front after we finished our food to stay hydrated. I also saw her give food to the wrong people and was very rude when we asked for a to go box never going her if your service is so disappointing.
I ordered almond chicken and 2 eggrolls. Total cost after tip was about $27. I ate half before realizing I’d only had 1 small piece of chicken. There were only 2 more small pieces of chicken in the rest. Never again.
I went for dinner tonight for the first time. New to island and have been following. EXCELLENT, hot, fresh, tasty and the servers were soooo friendly and professional. I'll be back. Thank you!!
Greasy. Ordered chow mein which came with noodles (did not ask). The food was wrapped in a plastic bag which was full of yellow grease, which ended up leaking everywhere. Could not even eat it. The rice tasted like Minute Rice. It was dry and not warm. We returned to restaurant for a refund which was issued (cashier was nice) but we will not be returning. Edit: October 5th 2024 When we arrived at the restaurant no one else was seated at the tables despite being open for 2 hours at that point. (It being dinner time and after when most 9-5's get off work.) The establishment wasn't lit well and the dingy lighting didn't make it feel welcoming. The country music playing also was thematically wrong as silence would've been more appropriate. The walls are plain besides from wall sconces which can be seen in photos posted by owner, nothing stand out. The atmosphere did nothing to live up to the name "China Garden" nothing close to a serene garden could be saw. Access to the entrance was an issue as well as I am unsure what would be the way someone in a wheelchair or with mobility aids would be able to enter. Still will not be returning as the response to my review from owner and behaviours are not welcoming and make us want to give this establishment another chance. Best wishes.
I placed an order with them tonight and this is what I received for sweet and sour chicken balls. One order with not much red sauce and the other with none at all. See attached pictures. In hind site I should have read the reviews before I ordered. Very disappointed…Update…they have reached out to me and are going to give us a new order of chicken balls to compensate for the mistake. Will post pics of the replacement when I get a chance to order again
So they had clearly had something bad burn and the rice smelt and tasted of smoke. Inedible. They said they made fresh for us but secomd batch came out the same. Staff admitted to not being willing to taste the food to see why and tried to charge us for it even through it was inedible. Had to pay, leave and go eat elsewhere
Came in after seeing new owners took over. Place looked very nice. Not many there but a few waiting for pick up orders. Waitress showed us to a table They took our order and egg rolls came out in few minutes which is the norm. Then we waited and waited. 3 people came in and they were seated and their order was taken. Lo and behold their order came up before ours. And the people waiting for their take out orders were still waiting. I heard one woman say she ordered at 4 to have it ready for pick up at 530 and this was 550 by then and no order No covers on any plum sauce containers. My wife pointed out to the waitress that flys were landing on the one on table beside us and instead of taking it away she left it there. Sweet and sour chicken balls were huge but very small amount of meat inside. And the balls were somewhat crusty to bite into. My wife had fried rice that had a burnt taste to it. The waitress’s seemed very inexperienced which I guess seems to be the norm but they were pleasant. But owners should have made sure to be there themselves or have someone with experience working to over see that things are going right. Pictures of rice and chicken balls is what my wife left as she couldn’t eat it.
I write this with the understanding that it is under new ownership (again)and with that comes hope. The food has been bad cold and taste old like sitting for a very long time My last meal here I could not finish please please turn this around I started eating here 23+ years ago and John the founding owner had an amazing place with great food and a clean restaurant I trusted him and he alway give me a constantly good meal.

Ordered takeout tonight and the food quality has gone downhill significantly. Chow mein was very greasy, rice was dry with little flavour, house special chow mein was very greasy with hardly any vegetables, Mr Noodles from the grocery store were of better quality than the noodles in both chow meins.

Worst Chinese food I ve ever had , and I ordered 3 drinks that I was charged $7.50 for and they didn t send them with my order and then wouldn t answer the phone when I called back about 10 times. Worst customer service ever, will never be eating there again.

The food was cold. The service was terrible. Those waitresses should be trained. Food came before cutlery and plates. No spoons to plate up food. And the rice was burnt. Very bad experience. This was Saturday evening.

Worst Wanton soup in my life! Tasteless wontons in dishwater, no vegetables, just a sad pool noodles with dogfood dumplings. 45 minute wait, wow. Keep your cash and appetite, look elsewhere.
Food seems to be better but seriously dont cheap out on the sauces got full meal deal the other day and there was about a tablespoon of red sauce on the entire chicken balls so they ended up being plain and dry. they are to be covered with red sauce dont cheap out
I wish the review would allow me give this restaurant negative number of stars. Here are what we ordered: 1. Hot n Sour Soup - Pretty much just boiled water with veggie and tofu. Tasteless. 2. Egg Roll - Who knows whats in there. It doesnt taste any close to regular egg rolls. 3. Beef Chow Mien - Comes with no noodle, so i am not sure what kind of chow mien it is. 4. Sliced Chicken on Rice - Comes with no rice. In addition, we were told to wait half hour for our order and we ended up waiting for almost an hour. When we left, if I didnt ask for utensils, they totally forgot about it. I then called them and they kept on insisting that I read the menu wrong. Interesting! Unless PEI has a different version of Chinese food, I am pretty sure chow mien comes with noodles and rice dish comes with rice. My only recommendation is, if you are on a low carb diet, please order food from them. You would love it.
Buffet: No shortage as they refilled what was close to empty. Meat literally fell off the bone. Every dish was piping hot. Balls were lightly coated and chow mein was generously mixed with veggies and chicken. Wait staff were attentive for minor things like napkins or utensils that fell on the floor. Very pleasant staff.

My husband, myself and our two smaller children went for supper one evening. The service was exceptional, fast and food was delicious. The one thing that really stuck out to me was when the waitress asked if we wanted some crayons and coloring books. Of course we said yes, when she returned to the table she told us the owner made the coloring books herself. How cool!! Great little personal touch! Great job, we can t wait to be back!

By far my favorite Chinese food in Charlottetown! Always hot and ready on time! (Unless holidays or extremely busy) in saying that though they are always great to call when food is ready or if it will be late coming!! The staff are so friendly and inviting, prices are on par with everywhere else! And I LOVE that they have brought back the buffet Ive been a long standing, loyal customer who has been there for all the changes in owners! And I believe the food just keeps getting better and better! The egg rolls, chicken balls, and beef and broccoli are my favorites but everything else is awesome as well!! My one and ONLY complaint would be the parking as there are very few times you can actually get a spot even close by! But I have learned its well worth the walk

Ive been a fan of China Garden for many many years. Which means Ive experienced the different owners as well - this new owner is by far one of the best in the business! Everytime we go in, hes up front or running orders with his staff. Hes friendly, polite and courteous! And the food, oh man, China Garden is back!!! Wonderful food and excellent ownership! Really enjoy our food every time we have it. We did have a hiccup a couple of times and each time, the restaurant was very sure to rectify it accordingly. Cannot recommend this place enough

Excellent Chinese Food restaurant in downtown Charlottetown. It seems to have an already thriving take-out service. Patrick, the new owner, featured a reasonably priced dine-in New Years Eve Dinner Buffet. The food was super-fresh and tasty. The lemon chicken was a show-stopper. All of the staff were attentive and friendly. There are new specials and incentives to entice old and new customers. Changes in the time and menu are in the works. I will definitely add an extra star when the hours open up to lunchtime dining and more buffets. Good luck China Garden in your new adventure.

We had China Garden on NYE!! It was amazing. Worth every penny. The food was super fresh and hot when we got it home. Very pleased. Kid-friendliness: The kids loved the steamed rice and fried Wong tongs.

My husband and I ordered their combo D Special with an extra eggroll each. The food was absolutely delicious from the first bite to the very last bite. Egg rolls were so delicious wanted more. The portion you get was overflowing the takeout box. My husband is a picky eater when it comes to Chinese but he didn t hesitate to say that it was delicious he was scraping the plate for more lol. We ll definitely be back!!! 5/5
I ordered from China garden for the past few years for new years eve and it was always so busy that when you ordered it would be late getting it but this new year eve I put a order in for 6pm I arrived at 5.55 and it was ready:) It was delicious and fresh :) was back the second time and will be back again :)

We have been looking for the best Chinese place to eat since we moved to the island 7 years ago. We have found it! Food is wonderful, service is fantastic. Delivery, flawless. Try the chicken balls, egg rolls, well everything, it s all crisp hot and delicious and fairly priced. It s so good that I m drooling while writing this review. Try it, you ll love it.
Always been a fan of CG, best Chinese food around. We usually get delivery 1-2x a year but I must get downtown soon to see place under new ownership as Ive all amazing things. (And maybe bring in treats from my bakery/scroogesgoodies for the staff )

Very disappointing this evening. Restaurant was not busy, server was very overwhelmed, or just not friendly. Waited 1 hour for food, received wrong order ( asked for a 1-1 got a 1-2 )and food was cold and dry! Feel like it was leftovers from buffet earlier. Did I complain? No, as server was very unapproachable. Just ate what I could paid and left. Not sure if I would recommend or go back.
They open at 4pm. Called at 4:10pm was told 45 minutes. We got there on time and as told not ready but could not tell us how much longer. Waited another 30 minutes - I asked again how much longer and was told our order wasn t even started and could be about another 45min to 1-1/2hrs. I told them to cancel my order and they finally did. Beware of what they tell yiu fir the time frame for pick up.
Management is everything. New owners have revived this restaurant. Efficient, delicious and courteous service.

Food was hot n fresh. So nice they have dine-in again. Server was nice and attentive, even with being busy doing dine-in and takeout shuttling. There is a reason why they are so busy - its quite good.

My husband and I split the Combo D and a veggie lo mein. I also asked for the veggies well cooked in the lo mein. Everything was delicious, fried rice was flavourful, ribs were moist and good chicken to batter ratio on the chicken balls. Worth every penny!!
I had reviewed this location 5 years ago when it was under former owners. I recently ordered delivery and the new owners have made incredible progress on all aspects. Delivery was quick and the food was amazing and lots of it too. Highly recommend.

Best Chinese food in Charlottetown!
Definitely worth the visit! Tried China Garden for the first time tonight, despite living only two short blocks away from the restaurant for the past four years; we were two for dinner this evening and selected one of the Combination Dinners - the #2, dinner for 2 - along with an order of crispy wonton chips from the Appetizer menu. The staff is awesome, theyre so warm and friendly and make you feel welcomed from the minute you open the door; it was take-out service only this evening, which suited us just fine, but China Garden would definitely be a really great place to enjoy a dine-in meal. The service is polite, courteous, and lightening fast; after placing my order I went for a short twenty minute walk around the block and by the time I returned to China Garden to pick up the order it was all packaged up and waiting for me! The food is super fresh and the portions are generous, there was plenty for the two of us and enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. There was plenty of plumb, sweet and sour, and soy sauces included; if you require napkins and utensils and things of the sort, just ask the staff and theyll be more than happy to try their best to accommodate you. The prices are very reasonable and you get great value for your money. I believe someone said in their own review that China Garden is a great end-of-the-night spot and thats definitely true, China Garden reminds me of some of the best hot spots back home in Toronto that were considered a mandatory stop at the end of the night. They left sign on. their sign states they close at 9pm, was there at 8:50pm to pick up food (store person had called 5 minutes prior, we confirmed we d be there in 5 minutes. Got there at time confirmed. the door was locked and open sign still on and no one answered the phones.
Sweet and sour chicken with chicken fried rice! Unfortunately they dont have inside dining so we ate across the street on the librarys patio. Nonetheless, customer service was exxellent and the food was great

Ordered via telephone and told 40 minute wait took over an hour and a half for our order to be ready. Woman on phone acknowledged terrible service but did not offer discount or refund. Will not be returning.
Waited two hours after being told an hour and a bit. We ordered at 445 and they only opened at 4...how could you already be that far behind? Okay two hour wait and waited ond hour at the restaurant and the food was hardly warm so whats the excuse for this...after waiting two hours it should had been steaming hot and was far from it. We will not be back and do not recommend it to anyone.
We ve loved China garden for years, but We ve had some not so great meals from china garden the last couple months. But last weekend our meals were amazing!!! Definitely the best Chinese in town!
Picked up a Combo A this evening Absolutely delicious! Reminded me of the quality of food I got long ago. Delicious rice, crispy tender chicken balls with a great sauce, and amazing egg rolls! Best noodles in town
This is the best tasting Chinese food in Charlottetown. The man who greets you is so friendly and genuine. They must have new owners. Changing my 1 star review to a 5. Have eaten there 5 times in the last 6 months and taste and service are consistent. Better than Canton Cafe My wait times have never been more than 20 minutes. Food always hot and fresh. Old review : Terrible customer service. Misleading prices on EatsPEI.
Waited 2 hours for food delivery, called to check up on the order 2 times, 30 minutes apart, and was told it was on the way both times. 3 hours later, still never recieved the food, and dont plan on ever receiving it. And yet every time you call they reassure that the food was just sent out. Learn to be upfront and honest with your customers.
I was living away for a few years in a place where there was no Chinese food restaurants, I called for delivery one evening and was trying to decide between two items in a combo and told the man I was sorry and explained I was away and wanted it all but knew I couldnt eat it all , he gave me the combo I wanted and for free gave me a 1/2 order of the other dish I wanted. Was extremely friendly and the delivery was great and the driver was friendly and prompt as well. I will be ordering from there again . Good food amazing service.
Got a meal on mothers day and is was wrong and no answer on the phone to get it right. Took two days before they got back to us and they did replace the oder the next weekend at a discounted price. They said they were busier then ever but I knowthey are not cause they dont have table service going like it use to be.
Best Chinese in town
I grew up in Charlottetown, and when my mom could afford it we would have the number 2 for 2 . I moved away many a years ago..Well it has been more then 30 years since then and I was thrilled when I looked up the restaurant when we arrived here in Charlottetown and there it was with the number 2 for 2 still available. I was so excited to order this and praying it was going to be just as good as I remembered. Well it was! Thank you so much!
Visiting PEI for the first time from Moncton & decided to eat here for dinner. Worst Chinese food and worst attitude I ve ever dealt with! The chicken balls were soggy, The chicken fried rice tasted burnt, with the most disgusting chicken pieces in it; considering we were super hungry and couldn t even eat this meal says a lot. Egg rolls were clearly frozen for a long period of time, and then deep fried, & tasted like pure grease. I watched them scoop sweet and sour sauce from a pot (with no lid), into a pitcher, and then into the serving cups. This was in the main room not the kitchen, super yum with all of the flies/insects around. When we returned for a refund considering we only ate a few bites of each meal, the owner was defensive and kept questioning if we ve ever seen dark meat before. We know good Chinese food and this certainly isn t it. He mentioned how he doesn t know what we have in Moncton and was beyond rude when all I requested was a refund to go get food elsewhere. 40$ down the drain for a student isn t nice. People like him make it hard wanting to support local businesses, as well was wanting to return as a tourist. Nobody should get that treatment! Having just completed my food safety course, I d say steer clear of this place.

While the food was tasty for Canadian/maritime Chinese food, I would recommend confirming exactly what you are ordering. I ordered chow mein and chop suey and the only difference between the two was one had mushrooms. When I called back to ask if there was a mistake he told me that they are made basically the same. Like I said food was good but I don t understand why they would have two options on their menu that are the same but under different names.
Says you guys are open but can not get an answer to order pretty disappointing... again tonight I call it says your open and no answer what s up with this it s not very good customer service !!

The food was very fresh and delicious! The wait was about 35 minutes, but well worth it for us. I do wish however, that the dining room was open!
Owners haven t a clue on how to run a restaurant. Restaurant opens at 4pm, called to ask if we could eat in & was told, yes. Arrived at 7pm for 3 people & was told that they weren t taking any more orders. I thought it was a joke but, nope. We were told that they had to make egg rolls. They shut down the whole restaurant 3 hours after they opened because they needed to make egg rolls. Again, I thought it was a joke but, nope. We left. We should have paid attention to all of the negative reviews that we had read on Yelp, Trip Advisor & Facebook. The owners need to hire someone who knows how to run a restaurant. Wendy Russell

I havent eaten there personally but Ive heard many, many, MANY stories about this place. I know this is a local business and we should be supporting them but the cleanliness and safety they have for food goes beyond unsanitary. Its just plain insanity. Ill support local businesses that take the care and time into their restaurant and this just aint it.
Just had combo D and it was going fine until we got to the rice. I take a bite and end up pulling out a massive hair from my mouth. I will never be eating here again!

Order took close to 2 hours for delivery and the food was cold and chow mein was one big Clump, battered chicken and shrimp was soggy and tough. Egg rolls were cold and soggy.
Well we definitely love the food ..the owners are great people .The only issue I have is that I find they never answer the phones.Is ur number on the website the right one.Two weeks ago I was wanting some food from ur business ...I tried calling 6 times and finally gave up.Went across street and got my Chinese food there after first call.
The last three times we ordered food for a family of 6 we order hours ahead and they are still two hours late
It recently has come under new ownership as of Decemeber and while the food was ok before it is excellent now! The food is always piping hot and delicious. While it was a go to late night food spot Im started frequenting even for supper.
The food was awesome the restaurant is brighter very friendly will definitely be going back. The new owners are super so good people and I wish them the best

Went 40 minutes out of my way plus added a tip to get home and have my order be wrong. Offered to fix it next visit when called for an explanation as to why the order was wrong. That doesn t help right now, the order tonight is still wrong. Won t be back. Plus got half a dish of plums sauce for two orders.
Excellent food and a positive experience. We will be returning. Kathy and Gordie were very friendly and are running a well organized restaurant.

The new owners are terrible. Beware if you want to make any changes to a dish (aka asking for ONE thing not in it). Both of them literally YELLED at me on the phone for it. They are beyond rude! And on top of that, the wait times are insane! They will tell you 45 minutes, but you ll actually sit there for 2 hours. Horrible customer service.
China Garden is always my go to place for chinese. The quality is always great, and the amount of food is good for the price.
Took over an hour to get my food today. We got way less food than usual and it was $15 more expensive than last time when I ordered a couple of weeks back. The low score is because of that. The food is good if you dont mind paying more for less food.
We went there they were in the process of closing. They took our order regardless. There was not much of a wait time maybe 20 mins.... The food was hot and delicious. The owners are super friendly and that was after a long busy day. We will definitely be back!
