Known around Chatham as ‘The Goose,’ The Wild Goose Tavern is conveniently located on-site at The Chatham Wayside Inn, and offers downtown Chatham’s only outdoor dining. The Goose serves an inventive menu of locally sourced seafood and other ingredients, including organic and gluten-free dishes, to suit most appetites or diets.
Excellent place to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. It was fantastic meeting Santa Claus and Mrs Claus. Good french toast, bacon and fresh fruit salad.
The service was wonderful — above and beyond to make us feel welcome and accommodated even though we arrived close(ish) to closing time on a Sunday night. Our server was Gigi and she was excellent. The atmosphere was also lovely — and what drew us to dine at the Wild Goose to begin with. Sitting on the wide, historic porch overlooking the street, it set a really special mood. The food had some highlights and some others that were blah at best. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, crispy and well seasoned and satisfying. The mussels were also delicious—the broth was rich and flavorful—but the portion of mussels was smaller than average (though it is an appetizer). The crab cakes were lack luster, underwhelming, and seemed mostly like breading. The calamari was nothing special. Overall come for the service and the atmosphere and keep your expectations moderate for the food and you will leave happy!
Stay away from here! We waited for almost 40 minutes for our food to be served. Here comes my salmon rice ($36). White leftover cold rice, taste like just taking out from refrig, when the menu said it is pilaf rice. Then the server asked me if I wanted mash potatoes, which was served cold as well. My partner ordered medium steak ($42) and was served a well-done steak that tasted like a rock. The entire time the server didn’t apologize to us at all, and the plate she served even had rice came off the plate as shown in the first picture. Awful experience! Will not come again. A dinner of $78 in total should have been done better than this quality of food, poor presentation and service. What a nightmare in our special trip to Cape Cod!
The food here was great, and atmosphere was special as well for a fun night in the cape. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and everything was delicious. Would come back for sure
The guy bartender was very nice and welcoming. He sat us right away as soon as he saw us. The food was excellent. Will definitely come back again.
This restaurant has an upbeat vibe and was a super fun spot for our Sunday brunch/lunch. The hostess set the tone with her smiling face and pleasant disposition. It was a gorgeous day so we opted to sit outside in front of the restaurant. What great people watching. Like most places in Chatham, it was a relaxed environment. Our server, Stanko, was helpful with making decisions for our beverages and entrees. I had a cucumber-mint infused vodka drink (so refreshing!) and a Caesar salad with seared scallops. Both were delicious! My husband had a chicken breast sandwich with melted Brie, over arugula and a cranberry spread served on toasted cranberry bread. I can’t wait to replicate that at home! Everything was fresh and hot when served. I highly recommend this great spot!
Some of the best calamari I’ve ever had! Per our waitress’s suggestion, got the fried chicken sandwich as well as the lobster roll. The lobster roll was okay, but the fried chicken sandwich was amazing! The fries were also cooked extremely well. Definitely recommend sitting inside on a hot day, it was great to get out of the heat and the food came out quick, despite the crowds. A little expensive, but to be expected in downtown Chatham.
We enjoyed our meal at Wild Goose, the drinks made by the bartender were very good. The atmosphere is pretty good here and that makes up a big part of the experience, the food was solid but I wanted a little more flair, some sauce or seasonings with some of the components, a whole head of broccoli steamed in a plate was a little plain. The Crabby Salmon was very good, they nailed the main proteins. I just couldn't help feel like I had just eaten at a 200 seat wedding. I'm coming back for a dirty martini though.
Great bar expansion and updates. Cozy, comfortable, but yet sizable. Bartenders are experienced and talented.
My Mom and I went into Chatham for the day and asked the locals in a thrift shop wheres a good place for lunch; Wild Goose Tavern! We dined outside on the patio enjoying the warm October afternoon sun enjoying a delicious meal, good drinks and great service. Our service person, Cherise(sp?) was a delightful person, moving gracefully about the tables bringing us refreshing drinks, oysters, lobster bisque,(awesomely yummy!) fish and chips, scallops and more...the presentation of the meal was visually pleasing and so wonderfully tasty!! Food was hot, and seasoned nicely. When I asked for a dessert recommendation, Cherise said Apple Crisp...and though it took a while to arrive, (I didnt realize it was being individually baked to order)... it was divine! The apple crisp was still very warm served w vanilla ice cream n whipped cream w hints of cinnamon n spice - the flavors of Fall on a plate! Again yummy!! We didnt get to see Cherise on the way out, but I wanted to extend a big thank you to her, bc that next day was my Moms 88th birthday and we will both have our afternoon luncheon as a marvelous memory! The Wild Goose is a gem, you are sure to enjoy a grrrreat culinary experience while appreciating the local ambience. I cant wait to visit next year and celebrate Moms 89th birthday w her... at The Wild Goose!! Thanks folks, this was overall, truly an outstanding experience.
Never disappoints !
I hardly ever leave a negative review but we were bamboozled by good reviews and it simply doesn t deserve it. Maybe they were short staffed or the landscaper was cooking. The food around us didn t look good so I opted for a burger. Not fit for human consumption. I had to spit out the pickle because it was legit bad as in so old that the meat was mush and skin leather. The calamari was dry and without taste. The fries were decent for frozen food. The waitress was very polite but had no idea what she was doing. I couldn t help but look at the bolognese being served around me and cringe. I like peasant food and have a lot of wiggle room. This experience was just honestly terrible.
Interesting, creative, delicious. My favorite Chatham restaurant
We love sitting on the front porch watching Main Street activity. The service is great and the food delicious. This is one of our favorite restaurants Chatham.
This dining experience was truly subpar. Below average service - server never asked how the food was, even though the restaurant was slow. The food was near flavorless. Not worth a $100 meal.
Dont order a martini up here or youll be upcharged 3.00 for it. I have never encountered this before. Been in Chatham 4 days, ordered multiple martinis, traveled thru many different states... WTH? Oh, and asked our server who asked the bartenders and could not get any type of coherent answer.
If you go to Chatham, you must eat at the Wild Goose Tavern. Excellent meal, very good service, excellent atmosphere. The only complaint is the lack of access for people in wheelchairs (which is the case for my wife)
Excellent food and service
Overpriced mediocre food. I like the atmosphere and the outside dining is nice. The water tastes like plastic and chemicals, the $34 salmon salad was mid and could have been ordered at a hospital cafeteria for half the price.
A better alternative if you want to eat something other than fried pubbie food.
We had a delicious lunch today! Nina (our server) was amazing & an absolute delight. 5 stars all around!
All we have to say is THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The mac and cheese, the pasta, the fries and the cod were fab! the Molton lava cake was incredible. The burger came undercooked and they were ready to fix it in a heartbeat! Food
nice building. the staff is so incredibly rude. they waited to serve us for almost an hour while we sat there patiently. we asked to have a specific college football game played on the tv and they did not oblige. specifically, there is a waiter named matt who was very unprofessional. i d spend my money elsewhere.
Bartender, she lacked knowledge of how to make a proper cocktail. No food was purchased.
mediocre across the boards - fish tacos were fishy, chicken salad sandwich was gamey and service felt under-staffed
We had the flat bread, crab cakes and the oysters and they all were amazing. Our waitress was super sweet. Definitely check it out if you are in Chatham. I wish I took pictures of the food but we devoured it so fast!
Had a wonderful experience with family, food was ok, service good, the most important is relaxing atmosphere
I ordered French Onion Soup and wish I hadnt. It was not even hot. Warm at best. Toooo, toooo, many onions and very expensive. Very disappointing. My friend had a burger which was o.k. nothing special.
Our visit to Wild Goose Tavern was exceptional thanks to the outstanding service and delicious food. A special mention goes to our server Stanko, who made our lunch truly special. His professionalism and kindness really made our visit memorable.
Set us in a weird spot. But everything else was good.
First, the food of which we had none and is not rated: There were two pleasant people seating folks and there was no wait. We simply stopped in for drinks. The drink menu has something for everyone, and the bartender who has been doing this since 77 was pleasant to chat with and made wonderful drinks. Recommended!
Best lobster roll ever!!! Perfectly made and the lobster is mostly meat and not knuckles and claws. Clam chowder is also very flavorful and full of clams!
Our bartender Joe was fantastic and Jill is our favorite gal in Chatham! We ll be back next summer! Thanks!
Charming spot but food is totally mediocre. Won t do it again.
The wedge salad- pls don t order. It s a block of lettuce with cocktail tomatoes. Possible to have this at home!
While the food is excellent as is the atmosphere, the service is lacking. We ordered a starter, a salad, and a main course. All were delivered at exactly the same time. There was not enough room on the table for everything and by the time we were ready to eat the main course it was cold. To add our dishes were removed before we were finished.
We ve been repeat customers for over a decade and seen the changes throughout the years. Our last visit, just a few minutes ago, was by far one of the worst experiences we had with Wild Goose Tavern. First of all, their reservation site, open table, doesn t allow you to reserve a table between the hours of 4-7pm. So, we decided to walk in and ask for a table. We were not offered an option to sit inside or outside - and taken outside directly on a hot/humid day. When we informed the hostess that we wanted to sit inside, she replied by saying all the tables inside were taken/not available. There were at least 25+ tables completely empty inside. She said she was going to speak with her manager and see if she find us a table inside. We waited nearly 10 minutes and she never got back to us. It is very disappointing to see this place decline in quality and customer service through the years. Food and the newly renovated restaurant may be good, but the service is really poor. Simply cross the street and enjoy a delicious meal at Squire.
We stayed at Chatham wayside inn and ended every night at the wild goose because Joe was so great! From the first time we came he was friendly, accommodating and made our experience so fun. If you come here, sit at the bar and ask for Joe, guaranteed phenomenal service!!!
SKIP!!! 0/10 customer service. Front desk girls were beyond rude and ruined the whole experience. We booked 2 weeks in advance and when we went to check in, 4 of them just stared at us and then went back to their iPads. They asked us if we wanted to sit outside (it was 65°, overcast, misting and WINDY) and when we asked how long the wait for inside would be (again, we have a reservation) they ignored it and told us that they had heaters outside. After once again stating we wanted to sit inside, they brought us in to an empty restaurant and sat us right in front of an open door. We were told the cold air blowing in was air conditioning (?) and that other parts of the restaurant were actually way colder soo . Beyond unacceptable, it would be one thing to recognize the wind is blowing in right on us, but another thing to lie and treat us like idiots. The food was good and our waiter, JC, was beyond amazing, however the girls at the front will be the only memory we take from this experience. First impressions matter, 2 weeks waiting for this reservation and I wish we went somewhere else. By the way, on the way out we noticed that it was NOT way colder in other parts of the restaurant.
Food was good for the most part, service was great and the restaurant is very cozy. Vegetarian options: Some
Great food, great service.
Smaller menu so you would expect dishes to be very good. Not the case. Fish tacos tasted days old and lobster roll was sub par, at best. Nice inside but don t let that fool you. For the price you re better off driving a little out of town and getting a good sampling of local seafood
Terrible food! Chef must be fired don t get the fish sandwich it s terrible
Exceptional menu. Great draft beer selections. Outdoor seating is a treat on a beautiful summer evening . Goose fries are an amazing appetizer.
Been eating here for 20+ years. Remodel for 2024 is wonderful (doubled the size of the bar!) Menu (food and cocktails) always interesting. Food always 10/10. Goose Fries are truly legendary. Only critique is that they do not take reservations. But they do OpenTable that will text you when your table is ready. Dietary restrictions: GF options clearly labeled Kid-friendliness: Kids menu, crayons
The food was precooked the grilled , the drinks 90% water
Earth, these solid stars, this weight of body and limb, Are they not sign and symbol of thy division from Him? I recently dined at the wild goose tavern at the bar, and had the pleasure of being served by Hopeton and Mikey. The food, specifically the calamari, was excellent and the bar renovations were fantastic. The bar service was amazing, and it was refreshing to see how the youth can still appreciate the works of Tennyson in this age of instagram and tik tok.
Outrageous prices for average food, small portions and mediocre service. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are willing to spend over $200 for a dinner for a family of 4 (and remain hungry after )
Great service, but the food was simple and the haddock was overcooked.
Great food and great service
Nice place to go for a date night. Super nice and attentive server (her name was Shanequa). Food was good was nice serving sizes.
Great food, impeccable service.
The place is lovely and it s clean, we had lunch, a party of five. Our waitress was not very good but it appeared that she was new so I can hope she will improve over time. Our menu suggestions were only average at best. My prime rib sandwich was actually just pulled beef on a bun, the fries were excellent but I would prefer a choice of a side. Lettuce on the sandwich was old. The prices were average for a resort town and it wasn t terrible by any means; I just expected better.
First visit since renovations were completed. Expanded bar is an excellent addition. Fig flat bread & Haddock Piccata were outstanding.
I made a lunch reservation here specifically because of the baked cod Fish Tacos I saw on their menu. They were fantastic and did not disappoint. The Cajun seasoning, slaw, mango salsa and chipotle dressing were delicious. Perfect fries. My friend had the Chicken Melt and could not have been happier. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I believe newly renovated inside. Clean and very pleasant server. I will return!
We come to the bar all the time for dinner and drinks. Joe and Elana are the best bartenders! Food is excellent and drinks even better!
Worst restaurant in Chatham. The hostess staff was unacceptably rude. The steak was overcooked. The fries they brought us we started to eat then they took away and gave to table to us Food
Had high hopes for this place due to a recommendation from an influencer but my friends and I were left underwhelmed. We split a few plates between us and they were decent but nothing we d go out of our way to get again. One person in our party had the mussels and those were unfortunately not great they were each gigantic (which threw us off a little), sandy, and not all of them opened fully. I had the lava cake which was good but came out room temperature. Seemed like it was either left out for a while or not re-heated thoroughly. We all had great drinks though. Again, wasn t terrible but definitely thought it would be better. The atmosphere was lovely and service was decent.
Great food, friendly staff, excellent service, newly renovated-wonderful atmosphere Parking: Difficult to find parking during the summer, especially Friday nights
The meal I had was very good
4/1/24 UPDATE: checked out the All New Goose all remodeled its very nice and open with more bar seatings, tvs, and fresh feeling. Still a dedicated GLUTEN FREE fryer but currently less options, lost the fish n chips and clam chowdAH but still in renovations in the kitchen so maybe it will come back but even more limited options at the moment, We got the got-to-try goose fries. Melted Gouda, bacon, chives. Good amount of Gouda but lacked the bacon and chives and portions size for $15 but was a very good and worth the try of you just want to pick at something. Over all a pleasant place so be. Bar Seats are padded and comfy hopefully they hold up. Bartenders happy and friendly -----++ Original review Nice place. Has a few GLUTEN FREE options. As some of the other GF reviews say, some staff was knowledgeable others not so much. Definitely a training issue that is think could be reasonably resolved. Food was good. I got the GF Fish n chips for $27 and cup of GF Chowder $9 and my date got shrimp pasta $34. little pricy but for where I was it was expected. The Fish was nice and hot, I enjoyed it. Fries where good but cold. Cole slaw I felt they jipped out of. Could have filled the little container it comes in or skipped the container and just put a scoop right on the plate. The pasta was god but needed a little thicker sauce, was a little watery for an Alfredo. Chowder was thick and hot which is what I want, came out perfect. Drinks where good and made to accommodate my requests. Nice place would go back
Very friendly staff...late afternoon appetizers...a couple of drinks and a fine how do you do........
Not open today, but weve enjoyed meals here.
Great food
The food and atmosphere was great.
Mediocre food. Great service
Lovely winter escape, the salmon with sweet chili jam was fabulous
Very salty red bean soup, vegetable linguine was free of linguine. Stick with staples like chowder and baked cod.
Comfy and cozy, delish fish and chips, great service
Tourist trap. terrible experience $42 --- 4 steak tips in gravy Statler chicken had bad odor and was hard as a rock . couldnt eat it!! so disappointed... Go by this place all the time and wanted to try it.
It is our favorite watering hole and dinner at the bar! Espresso Martini and infused liquors hit the spot!
Located in the center of Chatham, the Wild Goose Tavern is a pleasant, moderately comfortable place to dine. The menu is limited, although I was there during the off-season, so that may change. The service was quite good and the food was above average. I can not speak to the accommodations, but the tavern is located inside a popular inn. During the tourist season, parking may be a chaslenge.
Nice place to have food and drink.
At the last minute, we decided to get a bite to eat, a late lunch, or a very early dinner. Wild Goose was open, and we were not disappointed! Great meal!
Everything was quite tasty. However, the menu is small. Only one kind of steak.
We went for lunch and enjoyed great service and delicious food. This would be a five start review except, my husband has celiac disease and ordered clam chowder that was labeled gluten free on the menu. When he ordered he also checked with the waiter to ensure that it was gf and we were told that it was. However it soon became evident that it was not gluten free. So from our experience the allergen markers on the menu are not accurate. Hopefully this helps prevent someone else from getting sick.
We were so looking forward to a pleasant dining experience and was solely. disappointed. The room was very loud, the food was mediocre and the setvuce left something to be desired. As a local resident in a Chatham I expected much more.
Very good sandwich with good service. Clean, comfortable atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Great place for a quiet lunch.
Great established upscale restaurant for lunch or dinner. Get a feel for top notch Cape dining and atmosphere. Well done traditional menu. Attractive bar/tavern area. Part of the historic Wayside Inn. Parking: Park on the street or in public lots a couple blocks away.
Absolutely perfect experience. Food was spectacular, the service was astounding with their timing and professionalism, and the atmosphere was soothing enough for a romantic evening. Parking: Parking is easy and spacious but there are a lot of other customers too.
Had the sword fish. It tasted like something that youd buy in the frozen wrapped fish section of a super. Really not worth the 39 bucks. Asparagus was similar in its lack of flavor. Bummer!
Long wait, mediocre food for their expensive price. Service took very long . Food was not great Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options
Great clam chowder!
I ll just say it wasn t the best experience and leave it at that.
Wonderful service great food could not have been more happier. They really cared about their customers
Ate outdoors. The place has a great atmosphere! The service was very good as well! I ate the swordfish and it was ok. I do think they could better tailor their menu for cheaper and better-quality ingredients.
Reached out to Jennifer Simmons, Inn Manager to no avail. I guess their restaurant manager was right, when you re as big as they are they don t care about the little guys opinion. What a shame. Dear Wild Goose Management, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the deplorable experience I had at your restaurant on July 2nd, 2023. Despite having a reservation made for 8:00 pm, my fiancé and I were subjected to an unreasonably long wait time, missed the anticipated fireworks, and shockingly, were still left without our meals. Furthermore, the behavior exhibited by our waiter, who claimed to be the manager on duty, was highly inappropriate and insulting. While I understand that delays can occur, especially during busy periods, it is completely unacceptable that a reservation made in advance was not honored and that we were made to wait such an excessive amount of time to be left without our meals. This resulted in us missing the Fourth of July fireworks, which was a major disappointment. Throughout the wait, Juan Carlos repeatedly assured us that our food would be ready in just a few more minutes after supposedly checking with the kitchen. Although we patiently waited, we became increasingly frustrated when we witnessed two tables seated around us, who arrived after us, receiving their food. This blatant disregard for the order in which customers were seated and served was both confusing and disheartening. Seeing our frustration Juan Carlos came to our table I asked him how long on our food since we had been waiting for almost an hour and a half he offered a second round of drinks on the house which we politely declined we just wanted to know the status of our food he said he wasn t sure but was going to check. At this point, we decided to approach the waitress serving the neighboring tables and requested to speak to the manager. To our surprise, Juan Carlos returned, claiming to be the manager on duty his demeanor had now changed and he pointed at his name badge in a condescending manner and dismissed our concerns in an arrogant tone. He even went as far as to say that he didn t work in the kitchen and implying that writing a negative review would not affect the popularity of the restaurant due of course to its privileged location. This display of unprofessionalism and disrespect left us astounded and humiliated. To add insult to injury, Juan Carlos loudly offered us everything for free, insinuating that we were attempting to get a free drink. This was a gross misinterpretation of our intentions, as my fiancé and I had only consumed one beverage each while waiting an hour and a half for our meals. His attempt to embarrass us was both offensive and uncalled for. In light of this horrific experience, I demand a formal apology from your management. The treatment we received from Juan Carlos, who claimed to be the manager, is completely unacceptable and tarnished what should have been a pleasant evening. It is crucial for your establishment to take immediate action to rectify this situation in order to maintain a respectable customer base. If no appropriate measures are taken to address this issue within the next two weeks, I will feel compelled to share my unfortunate experience through various online review platforms and alert my circle of acquaintances about the disrespectful encounter I endured at Wild Goose. I genuinely hope that this letter will serve as a wake-up call for your management, prompting immediate improvements to prevent other customers from enduring such a regrettable and frustrating experience. I eagerly await your prompt response and resolution to this matter. Yours sincerely
Great selection of food. Food came out quickly and it was great. It was around 2pm so lunch rush was over with. Food : 5/5
Average food for above average prices. Mediocre service. Uninspired. Setting on main street is nice
The food at Wild Goose is excellent with portion sizes a bit on the smaller side. Service is great but we were seated in a corner so felt a bit ignored through the meal. Overall I would highly recommend Wild Goose if youre looking for high quality casual dining in downtown Chatham.
The waitstaff was pleasant. The food was average and at tourist prices with quantity not commensurate with the price. Maybe this evening was short staffed because we felt overlooked and had to ask for the basics such as place settings.
We enjoyed this place so much, we went back twice!
We spent almost two hours here waiting for our entrees when the dining room we were in was almost empty. By the time we finally got our food, it was room temperature (roasted chicken and grilled swordfish). The asparagus and potatoes were cold.... The waiter didnt refill our empty water glasses until almost an hour had passed, and he didnt check on us until we were halfway through eating our entrees. They offered to give us a free appetizer as an apology for the cold entrees, but we had already been there for almost 2 hours and were running late to go see the sunset and didnt want to stay much later given how long it took them to bring the food the first time. Also surprised that the appetizer we ordered to start (burrata) only came with two small pieces of bread to eat the cheese and tomatoes with? Like the size of my pinky finger... For almost 20 dollars? Maybe Im just not fancy enough to justify paying that much for so little food. Btw we did pay for this appetizer. Aside from not checking on us enough throughout the meal, the server was still nice and the environment inside was pleasant. I understand they may have had other dining rooms and people eating outside to focus more on, but I probably wouldnt recommend this place to my friends visiting Chatham as a result of my experience. I just cannot justify spending over 130 dollars to wait on cold food for 2 hours again.
The Hot Lobster Roll, Clam Chowder, and Fish and Chips were awesome! Great spot for families with lots of kid menu options that include drink and ice cream sandwich! Great spot Food : 5/5
We were expecting a fabulous meal but it was a C-.
Unfortunately this place has gone way down hill. Starting with the very slow service for us and many others around us. The flatbread pizza the kids compared to school cafeteria pizza. The fish and chips was a small portion and cold. My Nicoise salad had no lettuce, about 5 green beans and the seared tuna was laid atop a bed of pickled ginger. The the riff on the French delicacy I expected. Major fail. Best I can say - The people nice but choose another spot.
Food was okay, service was slow, but wait staff was friendly.
My family and I visited Goose Tavern and had a wonderful experience. They sat us outback, which we shortly noticed was the kid section. We had Declan be our server for the afternoon. Our drinks came out promptly. He took care of us and our clam chowder and lobster rolls hot came out within 20 minutes. We did arrive right as they opened so their staff capabilities didnt seem diminished or caused any delays. Disclaimer, photo was taken after we finished our meal.
What a disappointment and an expensive one at that. In the last week during our vacation we had 6 meals that were over $100 for 2 adults and 1 child. This is the only one we regretted. The fish tacos were cold and didn t have the cilantro as described in the menu, the swordfish sandwich was ok, slightly warm and probably comparable to a decent drive thru meal. The kids flatbread was awful and the kids drink options were few so we spent 25 bucks for our daughter eat a meal that wasn t as good as $3 nuggets. We saw the fries at the table next to us and got excited but when ours came they weren t the same and were told they ran out of the good ones. Our server was good and the host and manager were good. The atmosphere was really nice but we were really upset we spent so much money when we probably would have had better food at Captain D s!!!
The swordfish was the cheapest dish at the costliest price. It looked and tasted like dry chicken. The waitstaff and atmosphere were the only positives besides the crab cakes.
The outdoor patio is nice, but looks nicer from the street and not as nice while dining, a bit shabby. Food was really bad. Cold, lacked flavor, overpriced, poor quality. The $18 drink was also terrible, surely not a high end tequila as stated on the menu and not even filled to the top. It looked as bad as it tasted. Our waitress was friendly, sure, but absent throughout the meal. I had to bite my tongue as other diners were coming in. I wanted to say, run the other way! . Hostess was very sweet.
Yesterday, my large party of 10 had a delightful lunch at the Wild Goose Tavern on Main St in Chatham. Despite being a little short-staffed, they were upfront about it and advised us to order quickly. However, they managed to accommodate our needs without any issues. The food at the Wild Goose Tavern was simply amazing. To start, my wife and I shared a poke bowl as an appetizer. The tuna was incredibly vibrant and fresh, and it paired perfectly with the quinoa. For my main course, I opted for a burger, and it exceeded my expectations. The patty was juicy and bursting with flavor. It came with my favorite shoe string fries, which were crispy and delicious. Overall, the Wild Goose Tavern provided excellent service and served top-notch food. I highly recommend stopping by if you find yourself in Chatham Kid-friendliness: We had a larger double stroller with us and they had a safe area for us to leave it behind
My swordfish was so-so. My wife said her lobster ravioli was very good. So our rating is skewed toward my meal.
Really good food and excellent drinks, its a large restaurant and I think the waitress are stretched a little, but still a great place
For a date night or family dinner. We sat outside on back patio while the live music was playing. Good songs for dinner. Espresso martini with baileys was very good. Old fashioned was good too but a lot of ice chips in it and no cherry. Lobster Mac n cheese was very good. The Caesar salad was kind of soggy and presentation was sad. Cinnamon roll with ice cream was tasty but wouldn t get again as the bun wasn t warm and hard/stale. Our waiter Jessica was amazing and super nice! Loved the outdoor seating under the Edison lights. Would go again!
Quick food, decent price. Walked in. Seated immediately. Our server was fantastic. Accommodated my vegan dining companion and myself. Drinks were cond and refreshing. Food was good and fresh. He had the vegan curry -which was a Jamaican style vegetable curry and hit the spot. Fish tacos were cold and were the perfect lite fare for the night. W drinks and a dinner and were were walk- in and out with great service for about $60 on a Thursday night at 5:45ish.
I got the clam strips amazing. Our server Paul was great! Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu and had great food for them. Food : 5/5 |
Alex & Elena made the best recommendations & the service was great! Made you feel at home.
Our server, Alise, at Wild Goose Tavern could Not have been more gracious and helpful. She went out of her way to accommodate our party including two small children. Thumbs up! Food
We recently had the pleasure of dining at Wild Goose Tavern with our large group, and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable, making our experience truly memorable. The Belgian waffles topped with a fresh fruit compote were a hit, perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The custom omelets were another standout, especially the one with spinach, cheese, and mushrooms - a delightful combination of flavors that melted in the mouth. Its not often that every member of a large group leaves satisfied, but Wild Goose Tavern achieved just that. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-notch breakfast experience in Chatham! Vegetarian options: My veggie omelet was quite delicious! Kid-friendliness: We had our 2 little kids with us who have a tendency to get a bit rambunctious but that was not a problem, and our server handled everything with ease!
We went to celebrate our friends birthday last night. The food was amazing atmosphere ok, the service was slow. We got to the restaurant at 6:30 we dont leave after 9 pm. We ordered the fried calamari, and it got more jalapeños peper them calamari.
Very mediocre. Wouldn t come back. Clam chowder looked like it came from a can. No chunks what so ever. Blackened swordfish sandwich was desperately lacking some crunch and fat to pull it all together. Cucumber spritz didn t taste like anything and was served in a water glass.
I decided to order what stood out to me the most on the lunch menu, which lead to me getting the blackened swordfish sandwich set down in front of me. It had an amazing texture and a strong flavor, the fries they came with were thick cut and incredibly crispy and warm. The entire meal was delicious and filling.
Food was pretty good. The blackend fish tacos I had were a little soggy, but everyone else at my table liked their food. Drinks were were really good. Our server was a good kid - just green. He needed more training and he was very shaky serving drinks from a tray. We also waited a while for our appetizers (20 min?) and once we got them, our entrees came out five minutes later - leaving us to scramble to make space on our table. Clutter with plates is a little more than aggravating - never mind when youre dining with kids. ***Most restaurants have protocols for servers to communicate with the kitchen to delay and/or expedite entrees when guests are having appetizers.
The lobster bisque was amazing! We all loved our dishes! Food
We arrived for a 6:15 reservation and were promptly seated in the back patio. That appears to also be where groups with young children are seated. The waitress was wonderful. The food very, very good. The disappointing point being how slow the kitchen appeared to be. We did not finish until well after 10. Food
I have eaten at The Wild Goose Tavern MANY times. This time I was very disappointed. Unimaginative menu, mediocre food, very expensive. Too bad. I cannot recommend this restaurant any more. There are a lot better restaurants in Chatham. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options were definitely not clearly marked on the menu.
I would like to thank Brenna for coming to my aid on July 22, 2023. My husband and I were stranded in Chatham because we were unable to get an Uber. We were staying in Yarmouth and had no other way to get back. Brenna got us a ride from Lyft using her account. She went above and beyond to help us! Thank you Brenna!
Excellent Food but Service Needs Much improvement. We went early (11:40 am) to the Wild Goose Tavern for Lunch hoping it would not be busy. Unfortunately, we waited 15 minutes before the waiter even came over to our table even though there were only one other party seated. Then our food did not arrive until 12:25, with several other tables of customers who came after us getting their food first. When we talked to our waiter about the slowness of food coming, he explained that they give priority to families with children. While giving some preference to young children is understandable, the amount of time we waited was unacceptable. If they can fix the problem with the service, I would return to the restaurant and give it another try, because the food was excellent. We had clam chowder, a caesar salad, and and order of crab cakes which my wife and I shared.
The staff was super nice and the food was really good. You can enjoy a nice seafood dinner. Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs
So disappointing. I had the flatbread for lunch and it was definitely a box pizza dough. All our meals felt as though it was frozen and defrosted.
Great scallops and lobster bisque
Food was great. Atmosphere was great.
Large place can definitely accommodate large parties. Good priced menu, often has music and a lively bar.
Pricy. Good food and drinks. The staff was very friendly.
Amazing restaurant no matter what time of year! Our third time in late July to celebrate a special birthday for a family member! Our server Katie made the dining experience memorable and even more fun! She greeted us with a friendly smile and was always happy to help and take care of all 4 guests as if we were her only table! A professional in every regard! The food was delicious and we cannot wait to head back next summer! Thanks for the consistency and good times!
Quiet average, nothing special. Microwaved food for the most part. High price for what you re getting. Service was nice. Parking: Nice Parking
Great atmosphere, fresh local oysters, friendly efficient service. Tacos were good
My husband and I were strolling through Chatham village, and it happened to be lunchtime. We dropped in to the Wild Goose Tavern for a delightful noontime meal. My husband especially loved the Lobster Bisque, and I had a delicious vegetable curry. The service was great, and the atmosphere was very nice.
Food has gone way downhill, long time waiting for it. My husband got a basic chicken sandwich that came out half frozen. Not really sure what s happening? Judging by some other comments hot food is hard to come by. Better places around Chatham.
Hostess was AWFUL. Couldn t seat us WITH a reservation!!!
Food wasnt as great as most the restaurants i been to
You shouldnt have to look very hard to find someplace better than this. We came in on a cool evening and my wife asked for some herbal tea. She was brought a mug of lukewarm water and a box of bagged teas, none of which were herbal. She ordered pear and walnut ravioli, which turned out to be cheese ravioli with a sauce that had pear and walnut in it. When she asked about some vegetables, the waiter told her the pear and walnut were the vegetables. I ordered a Spanish fish soup, which arrived at the table cold. As far as atmosphere, the whole place had more the air of a college dining hall than a nice restaurant.
We had gone the day after Thanksgiving, and there were a bunch of menu items that couldnt be made cause they were simply out. I get that it was busy the day before, but it made it really hard when you have to re-choose your options 3 times. Then the food that was delivered was okay, nothing noteworthy of any of it. Two members, our table had to wait longer than others for their food to come out. The sever had a ton of tables, not to his own fault. But it made everything fall behind drinks and food, and even receiving the check, then having to wait to pay the check. Tobput it simply it was disorganized.
we ordered the steak frites and the lobster ravioli, the steak was pretty good but the ravioli was very disappointing, pasta was tasteless & frozen (waitress confirmed this), no lobster in sight, more of a plain marinara sauce than Tossed with lobster meat, heirloom tomatoes, fresh corn, spinach, fresh peas, light lobster cream sauce - none of those ingredients made it to the plate that we could see. At $38 its the most expensive item on the menu - if you like value for money you might want to avoid this one. We gently complained when asked how everything was, but no-one seemed to care - i guess they heard it all before. oh well...
Great food and nice polite staff.
What a great surprise. Excellent tea selection, the bread for their sandwiches is phenomenal, and the Ruben special should be permanent. Our server also helped make us feel welcomed and warm on the rainy day we went.
The Wild Goose is always a great place to eat when Visitng Chatham
Great spot in the center of town. Food was good and it was cheerful and homey.
Ate very well. An absolute recommendation on Cape Cod. Had the seafood stew and then the carrot cake. Everything tasted excellent. Oh, the wine list was also very good.
Could have used more
Great food and ambience located in the downtown. They have beautiful outdoor seating on the front porch and back. We tried fish and chips and the flatbread which were delicious.
Wow! Where do I begin?
I called before arriving to make a reservation and was told I did not need to make one, and in fact they were not taking reservations. When we arrived we were given a 30 minute wait despite the open tables. When I asked my friend if we wanted to wait, the host decided to comment on my private conversation in a rude tone. However our server Gavin was amazing. Best person ever. His service was excellent. I feel bad he has to deal with this management. I believe it shows his character that he hasn t quit yet. Food is overpriced but good.
Beautiful spot. Lovely decor and style. Our extended family had an awesome experience!!!
Fun location downtown but food was very average!
Always a good spot for a drink and a meal, pleasant environment and dining on the porch is perfect for watching the activity on Main St in Chatham.
Susannah is not pleasant. Food has gone downhill from our last visit. Salmon was dry and hard on salad. Steak flatbread was gross. Bluefish dip was okay. So slow and poor service. Still left 18% tip. Poor server was overwhelmed.
Came here for the second time. It was no the same. I believe it was related to a lack of wait staff.
Nice old school building. Good place to people watch from the outside dining area. Unfortunately the food and service was a disappointment.
Underwhelming. Great location and good outdoor section but the food was uninspired. It seems to have gone downhill in the past year or so which is too bad.
We had dinner there in late June 2017 on the front porch .. nice setting, nice food. Service was the issue; waitress insisted wife could substitute various things for the standard veggie, she chose the salad (was offered as a substitute) and we were up-charged $5. My dinner included fries, but no ketchup, no waitress could be found, had to go inside and find it myself. Weve eaten there before with no issues and would certainly try again. UPDATE: We did try it again in 2021..I wanted to be sure my entree was dairy free, I was assured it was, asked again when it came with mashed potatoes (Im ok with butter) but it wasnt, had heavy cream or something. They did bring me another starch (rice), comp the meal, simple mistake but, gotta try to NOT make customers sick. We tipped per normal price. I would still go there again, wish I was there now!
Easy vibe, upscale atmosphere delicious crab cakes
$5 for bread at the table. limited overpriced menu. $50 Ribeye small portion.
Always our go-to destination, and reason why we come to Chatham, because lets be honest... its all about the food and not about the shops! The menu seems to be getting smaller and smaller, but still a great place for grub and fine drinks. Try the Flyaway from Shovel Town Brewery.
Stopped in for a cocktail . Bar Staff was very knowledgeable and professional.
Loved it.. everyone loved their lunch entree. And we sat inside with a/c and still very separated from others. I had a 6oz steak with tuscan pesto...i would ask for the pesto on the side next time..but thats just a preference. Others had grilled chicken sandwich, hamburger, fish tacos...everyone cleaned their plate. Our waiter very accomodating...highly recommend for chatham afternoon.
Really disappointed with our recent meal here summer of 2022. 2 hour meal with 2 kids under 5. Most restaurants are sensitive to that fact and try and get you in and out of there or at least get the kids some food first. After about an hour after we ordered the kids food, i asked for an update and was advised one couldnt be given due to the fact that they were so short staffed. I understand the labor shortage on the cape, but before being seated we should have been advised staff is short and our meal with little ones might be difficult. Our meal here is always a treat, and the food is great. My cocktail was horrible to the point i couldnt drink it, and the food was just OK, which is not what you expect at an establishment like this, we may not be back.
We went here for lunch today and it was great- the perfect relaxing moment in a day of shopping and browsing. My husband and I enjoyed a cocktail and some appetizers and our son enjoyed Kraft Mac and cheese. It was a win for everyone. Our entrees were amazing - my husband s power bowl was delicious and my Mac and cheese without bacon was great too. Even the French fries for our son were great. They had true cutest kids cup with fish on it for our sons water. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was amazing but so wasn t the bread and honey butter side. Really not sure which I would pick over the other. If I am ever in Chatham I would definitely come back for lunch or for dinner. Great for vegetarians!
Stopped in for drinks while in town. There were representatives from Grey Whale gin there, and since we were basically the only two at the bar, they repeatedly offered us samples and talked about our liquor selections. Wasnt very relaxing.
Atmosphere was excellent, food was good, not great, service was terrible. Our booth was set for two of us, even though there were four, but we had to ask two times for additional silverware and water. For a $300 bill, you would think it would have been better.
Awful!!!!!!! If I could give a zero star I would. Service was terrible . We waited for meals almost 2 hours. Food mediocre at best. Restaurant was not packed so there wasn t a reason for the awful wait and average fare. When I inquired about the wait the server was extremely rude.
Incredibly overpriced lobster roll ($48!!!) and other menu items (like the $27 summer salad that was downright sad). Food quality itself was average to subpar. Not worth the visit.
Everything was perfect. Good food, good wine, and so kind to the kids. We really appreciated our dinner there!
Overpriced and mediocre. The menu descriptions dont match the food that comes out.
Short variety menu, and food pse pse
Decent atmosphere but be careful! ASK what MP is for lobster rolls before ordering! I paid $28 in Plymouth the day before and was socked with $50 (times 2) when I received my bill. Lesson learned- don t assume market price is the same everywhere. Definitely not worth $50
SMALLEST lobster roll, SMALL shredded bits of lobster and $45! At $45 I ate one in Falmouth that was the upgraded I believe 5 ounces double the size, and nice size chunks! MARIONS PIE SHOP has same size as the Goose for $23!
Our server, Juan Carlos, made our meal very enjoyable.
Great food Excellent service
It started immediately when we arrived . This was last night , September 2,2022. The hostess acted disinterested in even seating us. Fortunately, the girl who seated us could not have been more engaging and caring. Upon being seated, we were greeted by a waiter who initially was warm and genuine. However, we waited almost 20 minutes for our drinks. Then, our entrées took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. My wife cut her steak to see if it was cooked to her liking, but only to discover that it was undercooked. We informed the waiter, who came back 15 minutes after initially serving our entrées, and told us that he would take care of this. What he should have done is stayed at the table until my wife had cut into her steak, and then addressed this immediately.. After taking the steak into the kitchen to be cooked, we waited another 20 minutes. By then, I had finished my entrée. We had to flag our waiter down yet again to remind him about her meal. He finally came back 10 minutes later with her meal. It still wasn t cooked to medium, but was satisfactory enough. In the meantime, we had ordered another round of drinks and didn t get them until after he gad returned with her entrée. When our waiter came back , he asked how the meal was. My wife told him that it was ok but that everything had taken an abnormal amount of time. His response was Well, you ate it all, didn t you ? Her response was Actually , I gave most of it to him(me) because he eats everything. I was tempted to rise from my chair and address his arrogance, but did not. My wife ordered crème brûlée, and I ordered key lime pie for dessert. Her dessert tasted like flavored rubber. All in all, the bill was $185. Although we really did not want to tip him, we did so ($35). Do not even THINK to eat here. It will be the worst dining experience you ever have.
When we arrived, we told the hostess we have a puppy so we wanted to be seated at the outdoor patio. We waited to be seated for 25 mins only to be kicked out once we were seated because they allegedly did not realize that we have a dog. The woman just took away the menus and left- very rude and unprofessional.
Enjoyed sitting outside listen to live music food and service was food
Best service in the area
We enjoyed dinner and the friendly welcoming staff. Food was very delicious and sitting outside on the terrace was good.
Very good and fresh lobster rolls, nice location, but somewhat unfriendly service and prices that are too high.
Visiting Chatham for the first time on a day trip.We saw the Wild Goose and stopped by for dinner the service was good ..nice atmosphere.. Lobster bisque was very good..also had fish and chips It was a very good meal. My wife had the power salad also great. We definitely will go back!!
Absolutely delicious chowder, fresh fish and great service. Perfect setting
Food was good! Service was excellent.
The bartender that says he s from Burlington, Massachusetts told my family and me that since we weren t staying at the hotel, we would need to drink our glass of wine in the lobby and could not sit at the bar. I will be sure to make it known how this bartender treats customers and will recommend that visitors go elsewhere for dinner and/or drinks.
The bartender here is nothing more than an F-. Second year in a row we (4 of us) have walked in at 830 for a glass of wine. Second year in a row he has been rude because we showed up late . He asked us to take our glass of wine and sit in the lobby unless we had a room at the hotel . For what it s worth, if you had a room, you apparently could sit at the exact same bar and enjoy your drink. And to be clear, the bar was not closed. He s an absolute 0. He deserves 0 stars but that wasn t an option. Good luck to the rest of you.
I have never felt less welcome in a place that I went to relax and have a drink before heading home. The Friday night late bartender was rude!
Always enjoy lunch here when we visit Cape Cod!
Nice atmosphere, great service and delicious power bowl!
Food and service were both 4 stars. We would definitely go back.
The atmosphere was okay, but a little bit too open for me. I would suggest putting in more booths for privacy. The food was just okay, too. The only thing I really liked was the french fries that came with my chicken and spinach burger. I thought the chicken would be a solid piece of broiled or grilled chicken, but it was ground chicken and the consistency was not like a normal meat patty, it was kind of soft and mushy. I didnt think it was worth the $18.00 I paid for it as one of the lunch specials. My wife got a Salmon and rice bowl for $24.00. It was okay, but again, not worth the price in my opinion. The portions were small for the price.
Reservations are very wise. We didnt have them so waited 40 min in the small bar. Good infusions and great personalities behind the bar as well as waitstaff with a great sense of humor. Food is spot on and desserts excellent too. Perfect front porch dining.
Very nice atmosphere looking out at Main Street in Chatham. Serviceer was pleasant. Clam chowder was a nice thickness and flavor. Was excited about the Chatham fish reuben but was very disappointed. The fish tasted like fast food frozen fish and the bread was sliced thick amd was hard and over toasted. The french fries, however, were excellent!
The food was amazing. I had the lobster ravioli.
Wonderful ambience. The baked mussel soup was my favorite. Would love to get the recipe
We had a wonderful lunch. Our waitress was wonderful, the wheelchair access was good. The clam chowder, loaded potato Flatbread and pumpkin cheesecake were delicious!
The food is always delicious!
