Dan's Diner is an authentically restored 1920s Jerry O'Mahony Diner. We serve diner classics like Omelets, pancakes, and french toast for breakfast and burgers, hot dogs, and fries for lunch. Whether you're a local or just passing through, stop by Dan's Diner Breakfast and Lunch for a great meal!
We were happy to find a seat at this counter. Warm and cozy, obviously reborn with love. We were welcomed by truly good diner coffee, within minutes served an authentic Ruben served with sturdy onion rings, the best of both I've had in quite a long time. Worth a short drive off the highway.
Ate there last Sunday morning (11/10) while attending a writers conference in nearby Spencertown. Excellent food. Maybe some of the best damn home fries I've ever eaten. I had a double order with my eggs and toast! Kind of a tight space, with only counter seats but well worth the wait if there's no stools immediately available. A true gem.
My husband and I have drove past this place a couple of times driving into NY from MA and finally had time to stop in this morning for first time loved how old fashion it is inside (reminded me a lot of my grandma diner she worked at when I was little in NJ) it’s small but cozy perfect for a quick stop for breakfast or brunch, food was good had perfect flavor! They won me over with the corn beef hash having real corn beef in it! Definitely will be back when we have a chance again.
Our omelettes were delicious and having gone there just to see the vintage diner it was a very nostalgic experience. They had just on one waiter/cook the day we came, but boy did he work hard to get everyone's order and food to them as fast as he could!
Place doesn't have much seating but food was delicious. We got polish omelette and "hot mess"... Plate it was good. Place is super cute!
Our fav bfast/lunch spot and they also have dinners to go. Austin is the man! Best bacon anywhere. BLT is awesome. Amazing pancakes. Always a great experience there and a very unique spot!
Such a quaint little diner! I've heard great things about this diner for years, so happy to finally check it out. The food, atmosphere and service was laid back and friendly. Old style dinner with yummy burgers and hand cut fries they cut fresh right in front of you! Would definitely recommend to locals looking to grab a tasty breakfast (served all day) or lunch, or anyone passing thru the area.
Charming, authentically-restored O'Mahony diner from the 1920s. From the gleaming oak woodwork to the marble countertop and period tile, the place is aesthetically gorgeous. As was the custom back then, there are only counter seats, so the number of seats available is limited, but they have tables on the rear patio that are open in nice weather. Food and service are great, featuring diner standards and daily specials. We didn't try any, but they seem to specialize in custom fresh-squeezed lemonade; we'll try some next time.
My new favorite diner! The bacon is amazing!
Awesome place. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I got the Mole Hill thinking it was smaller than the Mountain... I am so full Definitely going again.
Delicious food, fun diner atmosphere, awesome and giant lemonades.
Saturday am. Arrived at 9:40. Didn t end up getting food. It was 10:52 and our order was still 4 orders back. One cook, 25 seats, (no bathroom inside). Waitress didn t bother to look up and/or acknowledge us, let alone let us know how backed up they were. Got coffee and my husband got an oj. Waitress was rude, beyond unpleasant. She didn t offer to refill the small coffee while we were waiting for over an hour. Decided to leave after the cook started throwing pancakes and swearing. There were about 25 seats in a crammed locomotive, there was definitely something going on. It just felt really, really awkward. nobody was talking or making eye contact, you can forget about smiling.
Cute classic diner 5 minutes from downtown Chatham. Great atmosphere and delicious breakfast!
Always on point...
Holy cow this place is great!
Great food, great, friendly service, wonderful atmosphere.
Really nice people and service. The food is great. Nice old fashion dinner.
Service was impeccable. Food was pricey but good and hit the spot. Can t beat the ambiance, it was incredible.
Cute diner and awesome little train
Perfection. What s not to love at Dan s? The food is wonderful. The space is beyond cute. Friendly and attentive staff. Love it here.
Nice local vibe.
I loved it plus that Old school vibe food was to notch
If I could give it 8 stars I would! Everything was absolutely perfect. We both agreed it was the best diner experience we ve ever had, no notes.
Best flapjacks in the Hudson Valley! Softer than a pillow and fluffier than a shag carpet.
Delicious food. Excellent atmosphere.
This was our first visit and will definitely be back. The food and service was excellent. Everything prepared and made per order.
Always great food and unique experience!
Very friendly. Delicious food, fast service, great quality, and price. Outstanding lemonade homemade. You need to try it. I love that it was family oriented. Beautiful scenery.
Stopped in on a road trip. Classic refurbished dinner. Classic diner food. Glad we Stopped!
Great vintage restored diner.
Excellent food and service in a unique setting.
Good Pancakes and friendly folks, will be back for sure!
An authentic diner with a lovely atmosphere
The food is delicious, and the people are friendly and professional. This is a classic old Diner built like a train dining car but its wider. Eating here is not just breakfast or lunch, its like stepping back in time. You can see what eating out was like in the 1930s through the 1970s. Many of these closed down with the arrival of McDonalds, KFC, and Burger King. Take a trip to historic Dans Diner if you are within 100 miles. Youll be glad you did!
perfect summer lunch of grilled cheese and tomato with onion rings and an out of the world peach lemonade. the space is almost cinematic from another time
Great french toast. Cool place. Nice staff.
Alsome place
Amazing staff... delicious food in a very cozy atmosphere..
Great little diner! It is an old school diner. Very intimate setting. Service and food were fabulous
We absolutely love everything about Dans Diner!! Fantastic place to stop at for Breakfast or Lunch! And, that Crispy Chicken Sandwich... omg!!!
Beautifully restored diner. Food was so delicious, watched the owner/chef make our order while sitting at booths. Bacon is a must.
Hard to describe how great this place is. Delicious, QUALITY diner food in a beautifully restored piece of history.
I stopped in here at around 11:45 am for the first time after reading the article on WGNA on Facebook. I live 20 minutes away and had never stopped in here. First I will say it is a very small building for the business they seemed to be doing. The first thing I noticed was there werent any tables or booths. The only had the high top bar stools at the front counter and then another section to the right that had a bench with the same kind of seating. So if you are like me and have leg issues, you may want to order your meal to go. The second thing I noticed was that there were signs around about things they had removed from the menu because they could not keep up with the business they had. They had decided to go with a smaller and easier menu that they could successfully get done. The third thing I noticed was that they did not have a bathroom to wash your hands before you eat. The bathroom was outside inside the red barn that you see in the pictures. I then noticed that with the 15 to 20 people inside the diner there were only 2 people working. One was cooking all food, and the other was taking orders, taking payment, cutting prep (fresh potatoes for the fresh made French fries), a little bit of everything. By that time I received a menu and started to look at it. The next thing I noticed was that the largest section of the menu was their fresh squeezed lemonade with about 50 different flavor combinations. At that point I hear the 2 ladies talking about a very large phone order they had just received for 10 of their jumbo hot hot dogs with fries. They were discussing between the two of them about how long they should tell them it would be. A lady that seemed to be a regular was seated beside me and decided to put her opinion in on how that sided order shouldnt be allowed and continued her commentary about things the girls shouldnt do for the order because it was so large the entire time. Right here I will say these two ladies we amazing. Hard working, super friendly, they just kind of agreed with her and continued doing things the right way. Being a retail manager for over 30 years, I will say that I would hire them both in a heart beat. After 10 minutes the one lady came and took my order. I ordered the Mole Hill, It is a biscuit cut in half topped with a sausage patty, two slices of bacon, sausage gravy, 2 eggs any way you like and topped with a little shredded cheese. They also offered The mountain Which is pretty much the same thing except double the portions. With that I ordered a hand spun shake. She went and got the shake for me and was back in about 5 minutes. 45 minutes later my shake was gone and I finally received my order. It was ok but nothing amazing. The bacon is precooked and heated on the grill. It was so hard that I could not cut it with my fork and almost couldnt cut it with my butter knife. It shattered like peanut brittle when I did. I did eat 95% of the meal. It was not amazing by any means but it was passable as I was very hungry. But, a few things I did also notice while I had 45 minutes of wait time. They use fresh ground beef to make their smash burgers. I mean fresh from the one pound chub that you buy at Walmart(Their brand). She was using her gloved hands to squeeze the hamburger out of the tube onto the grill. There was no scale or measurements of any kind. What she felt was good was it. Over all I was highly unimpressed after seeing it having such high reviews. I definitely have been to better diners. The Alexis Diner in North Greenbush/Troy area has this place beat by far in my opinion.
Beautifully restored old diner, great food at great prices. This place is a real gem and definitely worth a visit.
I would eat here every meal if I could. Kid-friendliness: Fun historical spot with amazing pancakes. Food : 5/5 |
Cute little old time diner with AMAZING food, cooked to order right in front of you. We appreciated all the fresh ingredients and the great flavors. Highly recommend for a delicious breakfast or lunch experience.
Absolutely love going to Dans Diner. Nothing can beat a cozy breakfast in a renovated OMahony diner car. Ive had nothing but fantastic food from them and the staff is always friendly and happy to help.
Good luck getting a stool at this diner beloved by locals. Watch your head though!
Really excellent food, amazing building too.
Real local gem. Service is great, food is reasonably priced and high quality. Authentic small town diner feel.
Solid comfort food in a unique setting.
Lovely atmosphere. The staff were efficient and very kind. Food is so scrumpdillyicious lol.
Legit find! Super authentic lil pice of old school Americana. The food was delicious! Best biscuit and gravy I ve ever had! My party met was so right ingredients, temperature, meltiness . Oh and the coffee is perfect. If you come in and there s a crowd, wait. You won t regret it.
Amazing staff!!!
If you re looking for frills, look somewhere else. If you re looking for grills, you re in the right place!
Highly recommend
Very unique building service was excellent food was outstanding hope to visit again when in New York
wow..great food, good service, reasonable price and in an historic dinner car. this place is a gem
Great food and a fun vibe! Looks like on old train car inside. Kind of place where everyone knows your name and is friendly. Recommend the blueberry pancakes. Would be fun for kids as they can watch the food being prepared on the grill.
Dans is a gem. Great food, great service.
Best breakfast and lunch spot around! Fair prices, super friendly staff, great environment, and even better food!
Really sweet vibe and yummy classic diner eats. Open early for hard workers and the didn t go to bedders. Looking forward to next time.
Great place great food. Try the mole hill .
great place, great food, great people
First time visit for breakfast and it certainly makes an impression. The couple running it are friendly and knowledgeable. Based on how many people they greet by name, it only takes a couple visits to be addicted. The bacon is thick cut and excellent. I ordered the Carmel apple pancake special thinking it was normal sized pancakes. For the love of your stomach stick to two. Unless you ve got a lumberjack sized appetite, you ll be bringing home leftovers. Now saved to favorites so I can drag others to this little spot.
Charming little diner. I ordered the hot mess. It was hot and delicious.
So fun -- we love Dans Diner!! We started bringing our kiddos here 7 years ago when we moved to the area so its one of their first memories of feeling like theyre home. The staff is always so welcoming and the food is far beyond delicious. Amazing flavor. Amazing service. Now they have multiple different flavors of freshly squeezed lemonade (get it -- you wont regret it!!) Blueberry has been our favorite so far other than original. We refer everyone to go to Dans Diner on 203!!
Im on a mission to try everything on the menu. And then probably repeat this mission because everything is great. I need to come here more because theyve added to the menu; flavored lemonades, weekly specials, and more.
Nice little spot. Good food, great lemonade. All around a very nice experience
Stop in. Nice menu in a 1920s diner car.
Amazing. Just amazing. Dan s Diner has delicious food, a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and the best lemonade in the state. This place is very popular with locals and the waitress has the orders of most memorized. Parking: Large parking lot behind diner. Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome, high chairs are available.
Dans diner is the kinda place where the owner maybe cooking for you. Nostalgic atmosphere of the old train car style diner with great, homemade, locally sourced food.
This place is a gem!!! Such a throw back in the best possible way! May and Stephanie were incredible! The Heath Bar pancakes were delicious! The omelette had all fresh ingredients and watching May cook was almost as fun as eating it! Actually I lied the food was more fun sorry May! Don t miss this spot!
Great food in a classic diner with fantastic atmosphere. Local. Friendly and delicious. I highly recommend it if you are in the area!
Of course there s a mind-blowingly great (and beautiful) diner out in the Columbia County countryside.
Yummy food and great service!!
Higher quality food, great people, cozy atmosphere, outdoor seating. Vegetarian options: Yes Parking: Yes, at location Kid-friendliness: Outdoor seating has space for families Wheelchair accessibility: No
Great food and service, but the atmosphere was the best part!
Good food, solid portions, good price, tremendous atmosphere, the diner is just gorgeous. Warm polished wood, old school tile, counter service only, uncomfortable stools, but you re not there to sit, you re there to eat well and get out!
Drove passed this quaint diner a few times before and always thought it was cute, so I wanted to give it a try. I went in on a Saturday morning with my family of 6. When we entered we were met with absolutely no greeting or recognition. It seemed as though the two female workers were actively trying to ignore us. We then waited for about 10 minutes trying to figure out if it was a self-seating restaurant or if we were supposed to wait for one of the ladies assistance. While waiting we heard various comments from one of the two ladies, under her breath that included: We should close early and I am not cooking (clearly regarding us wanting to dine at their restaurant). So in response, we approached the lady and asked nicely how this diner worked. In an extremely bitter tone, she responded, You sit down. I take your order. We bring you the food, (rolled her eyes). Does that work for you?? and proceeded to walk away. This resulted in us leaving and going somewhere else for breakfast. I am not a person who writes reviews (this is my first one), but I just want to let future customers know the experience I had with my family.
Such a cute dinner. An old rail road car. Its cute and amazing food. Also not very expensive. Would definitely recommend.
This has got to be the cutest place on the planet!!! The building is truly adorable ..counter seating only (and not a lot of that!) Delightful waitress and cook- both easy to chat with. Great food at good prices! Highly recommend a visit!
Fantastic! Great food and wonderful retro feel full of knock knacks from the 50s-80s
Just perfect! Great breakfast in an antique diner with so much character, located in a beautiful location. Just what we were looking for.
Delicious food in a classic diner. Will be back for lunch! Impressive.
Excellent classic diner! Went for breakfast this morning, had hash and eggs with toast, simply superb. Service was top-notch. Looking forward to going back for lunch or more breakfast.
Classic americana
Great staff nice people and I love the train Car and windmills
The best BLT youll ever have
Great place! Amazing food! Don t pass it by!
Good luck to the new owner. He needs to get a different waitress. When I called to make sure they were open she hung up on me. Then she seemed annoyed everytime we asked to refill coffee. She was in a bad mood or having a bad day. Slamming dishes. Its a shame because I love this place. She will force me to go to sweet pea in Hillsdale in the future.
Food is always great and stepping inside feels like traveling through time. Unfortunately, the vintage stools are downright uncomfortable!
Basically perfect.
Super cool micro diner in an old railroad car. I got a super micro breakfast sandwich to go that was made with the wrong bread. No biggie on the bread but for six bucks, this thing was a little too little. But good.
So glad theyre back. One of the best diner breakfasts Ive had in years. Service was great, food was spectacular, and you cant beat the looks of a nearly 100 year old restored diner car.
Great people, real food, best biscuit gravy this side of the mason-dixon. 10/10
great restored Diner, now run by Austin. Traditional diner fare and the interior and exterior are perfect! hours 6 AM to 2 PM most days
Super cute little diner with amazing staff and great prices! (And a fabulous playlist!!!)
Magnificent pleasure
Just a great old time diner. Has a perfect smashed burger.
Lovely little diner. Dan Welcomed us like family. Food was Prepared right in front of us, small talk w everyone. Breakfast for two was less than 18.00.
Great breakfasts great prices friendly staff
Great food in a really cute place.
Seriously great breakfast and lunch. Super nostalgic environment down to the glasses. Whenever Im close I go here, we even go out of our way sometimes since their burgers are that good!
Good food great prices. Cool old diner. Friendly staff Parking: Large lot Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly food and kids love sitting on stools at a counter. Outside table seating as well.
Parking: Plenty of parking
Fantastic breakfast! The sausage gravy and biscuits were amazing. By far the best sausage gravy I have ever had. Will definitely be back.
Austin is running the show now and his care and pride in his work shows!!
Awesome food and atmosphere.
GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE! I would eat here everyday if i could.
This is an old diner car. Great food and atmosphere. Would give Dans 10 stars if I could. GREAT omelet.
Always good food and people. Antique diner completely restored.
Charming classic diner with a counter and a back standing counter. There is also a patio with some outside seating. I went there in the hottest day of the year and it was pretty warm in there. That said we got friendly service and delicious classic American breakfasts.
Great food and the best lemonade
Great everything!!! Your missing out big time if you dont eat there!!
Old time diner, diner experience. Long counter, stools to sit in, some outside seating and typical diner menu. (Only no poached eggs). Nice staff.
A overall great time, with friendly workers. Will definitely be back again.
You cant beat this little dinner great food pleasant freindly people and great prices
Very good food and great service
Its a diner in an old train car. Its awesome.
This is an amazing place if your looking for an old nostalgic diner. The staff were amazing and very passionate. The only problem I could think of would be the food it wasnt the worst but it definitely wasnt the best.
Was in the area and stopped here for breakfast. Friendly faces and good food. Perhaps the crispiest diner bacon Ive come across.
Good food and friendly staff. Glad you are reopened.
Great place. Grabbed lunch there today and loved it. Great to have Dan s back.
Beautifully restored old world diner with great food and friendly staff.
Perfect diner breakfast. Great spot.
Newly opened dont serve some of Dans old favorites. Apple fritter French toast, hash fried on the grill with bacon fat. Miss them Hopefully they will go back on the menu
Great food and just a fantastic experience!! Definitely recommend!!!
The authentic old diner, restored to perfection, is the star of the experience offered here. The place is beautiful. Old-time diner enthusiasts might give the place 5-stars for this alone. But the food is uneven -- Reuben sandwich is fantastic, the burger just okay. The spinach quesadilla was very good. The fries were a bit limp, despite coming right from the fryer. Milkshake was great. I certainly would come back!
Loved the nostalgia of walking into this cozy establishment.
Food was awesome
Love this place!
Charming little diner. Refreshingly unique experience amid chain restaurants. A diner that cares about appearance and feel, as well as food. One of the gems during our trip.
Very fun place to take the kids.
Great Food, Great People
The best - always a great meal, great service & friendly environment. This is the best.
Great place for breakfast
Cozy place perfect for breakfast
Had an omelette and it was very good. Home fries were great. Average price.
A have to see!
Yes. Get off the taconic and go. 5 stars as an authentic diner. Lot of love and labor has gone into this gem. Just added photo from todays big one i added hash. Yumm!!
Great diner, the food is excellent. An old time diner completely renovated by the current owner, and it shows, you feel like you stepped back in time when youre here. For a nice time , great food, and a terrific staff, you owe it to yourself to stop here and experience it.
Great little street car dining. Food was excellent. Only thing I regret is not having time for the chocolate creme pie ... it looked amazing. Breakfast all day. Wonderful staff and the homemade lemonade was just like the carnival. Delicious!
Super great food and fun place to have have lunch
Great staff, awesome personal attention
Great breakfast.
If crowded, not to worry . . . well worth the wait. CONSISTENTLY GREAT food/owner staff/ atmosphere/ coffee ! So good that gobbled most my breakfast special B-4 thought to snap this pic. YUM . Were fairly local so consider ourselves lucky to have this treasure just over the state line. P.S. Great homemade pies, too!
Great old fashion short order griddle dinner
Long wait when no other customers were around. Greasy and not flavorful.
Food was alright, portions were small. News paper in my food. Service was rude and slow. They charged me for sides that come with the meal. Cool old building
Place time forgot. Totally worth the trip.
Dans Diner has great food, great service, great coffee....I loved everything about Dans Diner...
Small town diner with good food..not a lot of indoor seating
incredible food, great service! lovely place to eat
This place was great I would say topical diner, the food was great great I love the set up ,one might have to wait a little bit to be able to sit ,the wait for the food was I guess normal since the only have a small grillbut the food was great we really enjoyed ourselves I even forgot how cold it was outside, omelet and huge pancake were great the home fries a must (w/onions) also the coffee was good. Im glad I drove 25 min for it .
Great little place off the beaten path. Very unique experience. Staff was friendly. Everything about it reminded me of having breakfast with my grandpa many years ago.
A Hidden Gem off the beaten path, about 2 miles east of the Taconic State Parkway near Chatham (I believe). Perfect for retro or Nostalgia Buffs. And the food is really good too. A must-see.
The breakfast was awesome! Great friendly service.
This is the coziest place we have been in in a long time. Food is slamming good.
Outstanding traditional local diner and the club sandwich was great.
Great food in charming renovated diner set in country local. A gem.
Great ride to take for a treasure like this. Me & my friend had the hot mess pictured, it was good. Next time I want to try the egg sandwiches. Another friend had the hash which was served rustic, a mix of cornbeef with homefries. The family who run it are very nice.
Fantastic little place ! Worth the drive and if its crowded its worth the wait ! Be sure to Ask the owner about the history of the diner , the back story is fascinating. Loved coming here with my dad for conversation and breakfast! Miss you dad!
Great little place, with a fair amount of menu options. Very nicely priced, fantastic food and interesting venue.
The entire time during my visit the staff was rude and unattentive. The girl behind the counter would constantly sigh and roll her eyes anytime anyone asked her for anything. My order of 2 scrambled eggs took over 50 minutes to come to me. This place is beyond unorganized and unprofessional.
What a wonderful find. A step back in time to a simpler way of life.
I liked vary good.food was good to.
Great place to eat good people work there good food
A go to destination. Quaint restored counter top only diner. Friendly family staff. Great prices. Make sure you are not in a hurry. Seating is limited but worth the wait. Very nostalgic.
Adorable diner car, great food!
We were passing through on a 700 mile road trip and we happened to stop here for breakfast! WONDERFUL food, INCREDIBLE prices, and THE BUILDING IS SO COOL.
Impeccably-restored 30s diner car, complete with all original quarter-sawn oak paneling, cabinetry, windows and doors, and super clean tile and stainless throughout. I had an egg sandwich on a hard roll, carefully curated all on la plancha by Marriott, and was regaled by Dan himself and the early morning local crowd. Do not drive by this one again without stopping in and saying the fare and community offered here. As I was leaving the turkey breast for lunch was just going in. I might need to make it a two-fer today....
A rare gem. Home cooked hearty fare in a restored diner car. The coffee is hot and fresh, its a great place to sit at the counter and enjoy a tasty meal in the company of neighbors and friends.
What an amazing place. The love Dan has put into restoring this little piece of history shows in every detail. Once your done marveling at the space, sit down and enjoy the food. Everything on the menu is delicious.
Great place, great food and great family!
Food is always great
Great food, service, and staff, in a restored diner car. This is a must visit destination for diner enthusiasts. Only issue, the stools are small and a little slick. My wife nearly fell off it.
Food and conversation were both great!
Good food, good people, very clean
