Riverside Gdns, Dock Rd, Chatham ME4 4TX, United Kingdom
A lovely classic pub in Chatham - serving all of your favourite wines, beers & gins. On the menu, we have gorgeous lunch, dinner, and Sunday options. With options for vegans, and vegetarians. We serve a wonderful afternoon tea for when you're celebrating a special occasion in Chatham Dog friendly too!
Went out for a family meal 6 of us. Three had the lamb which was OK with plenty of meat. The 3 roast chicken dinners were very disappointing. Only 2 small dry pieces of chicken no bigger than an half of an egg. Nothing like the description on the menu of fresh cooked roast chicken. A tiny single piece if stem broccoli, the roast potatoes not that roasted. The mash, Yorkshire, carrots OK. But little things like ordered diet coke without ice, came with ice. I'm sure this is done to ensure you get less drink. Dinners then arrived without cutlery for all 6. Had to wait for 2 sets. No one came to ask how our meal was. Really disappointed after it was recommended. Is it because it's new management. It wasn't busy at all as it was 1.45. Wouldn't recommend it at all.
I'm not one to usually write a bad review but this place should be avoided! The bar staff were OK but the food service was atrocious. When we were able to find something on the menu that wasn't sold out (at 4.30 in the afternoon) we then waited 30 minutes for food that had either been microwaved to death (chicken like a lump of rubber and veg that had lost any resemblance of the fresh version) or had been left under the heat lamp for way too long! We were a table of 16 out for my father's birthday, we ordered separately so didn't expect our food out all together but after another 30mins and constant assurance from the waiting staff that 'the food Is being plated now' 'it will just be 5 minutes' 5 people from our group ended up asking for a refund as everyone else had eaten their main and dessert. Incredibly rude staff told them it's just coming now 'if you have a refund then you won't be getting anything mate' instead of a much needed apology! avoid at all costs.
Came here On holiday and 2 weeks ago I picked this little spot out to have a beer when I came here. It's a beautiful day and all I can say is come here, have lunch, have Guinness, half cider and just enjoy the peace, beautiful spots. Don't miss out. The lasagna is one of the nicest of tasted 😋
I can sit here all day drinking, chatting and have a bit of food. Great menu. Great Sunday lunch. I come here every time I am in Rochester. Great view by River Medway. Lovely staff. And great outdoor sitting area.
My local community pub, it's really changed so much over the years for the better. They are always trying new things, listening to feedback. Great decor, feels homely, fab staff, dog friendly and the best pub garden in Chatham!
Relaxing, Friendly & Dog - dinning freindly, Very clean place, with lovely view over the river, interesting collections of chairs. The menu looks great - the food was fresh and delicious. Vibe is great, the service was excellent
What a beautiful pub. This is a great find away from the town, just opposite Fort Amherst and overlooking the river Medway. This pub was renovated just over a year ago and still looks as good now as it did at the re-opening. Food is very good and the drinks selection is really impressive. The staff are really helpful and friendly. Most impressive of all is how much they love dogs. They even have a full dog menu of treats and bowl food for them.
This was my first visit and Wow, What An Gem of a place! Such a warm polite welcome. My food was absolutely amazing!! I had a set menu for £10.99 and wow just look at it! The fish was beautiful! I’ll not be eating it else where, cooked to perfection. Looking forward to my next visit.
Food is great and a good selection of beer and wines.
Very helpful staff behind the bar and in the kitchen.
Saturday 26th October we arrived at our booked time. First we ordered drinks, they arrived as ordered no issues. I asked for a gluten free menu, they didnt have one. But the lovely waitress checked with the kitchen and I could have steak or gammon. I was told chips were gluten free, but when she checked what else was cooked in the fryer she said I would have to have the mash potatoes. So 3 of us choose gammon. I asked for a plain salad with my gammon. No potato. 2 people had steak and 1 had fish and chips. Well the gammon was infact thick cut bacon , 1 rasher. If it was gammon then it was off cuts. My salad had 3 funny looking brown things on it, no tomatos just lettuce and cucumber and drowned in vinegar. Apparently gluten free. I didnt ask for a salad dressing. Just a plain salad. Salad was also warm from being under the heat lamp. I didnt eat it. One steak was cooked rare as ordered and the other one was well done, but also cooked in butter and garlic on a dirty chargriller. It was black, not medium well. They cooked another one and cooked it covered in peppercorns and again on the dirty chargriller. Only 2 people out of our party of 6 ate there meals. The rest were inedible. They lost so much money as they only charged us for drinks and the 3 starters that were ordered and eaten. It was also freezing cold in the restaurant, certainly no heating on. No toilet roll in ladies loo. Luckily I had a tissue in my pocket. I certainly do not recommend this place, we was told they had a change of management 2 weeks ago and since then the food had gone down hill. The waitress was lovely, she tried her best for us but kitchen let her down. Very overpriced for quality. Go somewhere else if you want a meal you can actually eat. Not disabled friendly
Had a lovely meal here with friends
Friendly staff, great food, superb atmosphere and wide selection of drinks.
Went for a Sunday roast today very poor one slice of lamb potatoes and parsnips were dry. Had to go and order at the bar and pay for it up front which it not want you want to do when you are out in a group on a Sunday. much preferred it before it was under new management how to kill a pub! Why change something that is not broken. roast dinners used to be fantastic!!!
Great pub by the river
Smallest steak and Ale pie ever seen. No Salmon, no Hake risotto. Poor menu, poor service. Would not return Atmosphere
Came for Sunday lunch, belly s empty and ready to scoff. We ordered two gammon Sunday dinners along with two drinks.. When our dinner arrived we were asked well done? To my amazement I responded it s gammon The waitress repeated her self well done? My other half also bewildered and asked sorry what? The waitress said you asked for one to be well done Both confused because it s gammon, how on earth can you have gammon well done? Me thinking the slice of gammon was popped in the microwave for extra crisp my other half took the plate just to end the conversation Now I wonder where two gammon dinners and said drinks translates to can we have one of these gammons well done Any way, we ate it Not one part of the gammon was glazed and the stuffing looked like it could have done with a week in Mauritius, it was that pale. Not to mention biting into it, hard on the outside barely anything on the inside, could definitely use it to smash windows if I launched it hard enough. Potato s were on the tough side how ever with a moments soaking in the gravy they were bearable to eat. Ps would have fancied more veg
I used to love this pub which I frequently visited. Since it was refurbished by the last management it became a popular pub. The location is stunning the service was good the food lovely and the Sunday lunches really great. Unfortunately it has recently been taken over and much to my dismay it has been ruined. The food is no longer good, the Sunday lunches are abysmal. I ordered chicken and ended up with two minuscule grilled chicken breast???? The recent reviews are all very poor. I hope the new management wakes up and takes notice. The command house is a great two listed building in such great position don t ruin it.
Wheelchair accessibility: Grade 2 listed building means only stairs to the entrance, no ramp or lift Food
Excellent view of the river medway . Food was tasty hot and fresh.
Beer selection best thing here. Asked for Chunky chips and waited nearly 40min for egg cup of skinny fries.
Came here for Sunday lunch yesterday about 4:30pm and it is normally really good but yesterday it was awful they had no starters and all the side dishes had run out our food came out almost immediately and was not piping hot the roast potatoes were hard and tasted stale, all of us have bad stomachs today so we will not be returning for food again
Great location, perfect on a warm day to sit by the river.
We were told when arriving that the place was closing that night hardly any food or drink available very poor
Lovely place on the water, relaxed atmosphere.
Such a lovely pub with my dog being treated so well.. very friendly and loads of board games
Visited for lunch with a friend. Was a lovely chilled atmosphere and friendly service. I had the haddock florentine fishcake and it was great. The accompanying salad was lovely, definitely exceeded expectations. Lunch menu is really good value for money too.
Venue is beautiful, food is delicious, staff are welcoming, charming and efficient. First time at this pub. I plan on coming back. We used the summer offer today and considering the quality of the food lunch was a bargain. Thank you. Vegetarian options: More vegan options please.
My name is Norman Marvin Cabbage and I had a packet of quavers here and it was the best Ive ever had. Cheesy and tangy. I rustled the packet in the face of the lady next to me and she told me to jump into the river Medway. Would definitely return
Sadly our food was very poor quality and presentation. The lasagne was burnt and stuck to the dish The chicken was dry and tough Food : 2/5
We read reviews about the roasts and were excited to visit only to be left deeply disappointed. Everything about the meal was sub standard. The roast potatoes over cooked and shrivelled, the parsnips so rock hard you couldn t cut them, the mash appeared to have been sat under a hot light along with the beef which was curled at the ends
Vegetables was over cooked ,meat and yorkshire was lovely
Ordered off the app, waited a while which we could appreciate , food came out and still no drinks . Asked the server to ask where our drinks were, still nothing. Went in finally and got told we should not have asked the server ! Do people not communicate , took another 10 mins after this . Asked to speak to manager , nothing . Such a shame but would have enjoyed our drinks to have before and during our meal .
Great pub.
A nice pub with a great view, some fabulous history and a cracking beer garden if the weather is kind?
JACKKKKK THE MAINNNN MAN!!!! GREAT HELP AND MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE!!
Had a lovely evening here with friends on a Saturday night. Food was lovely, well cooked good size portions and plenty of variety all at good value. Staff were also very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back x Food
Great place for drinks, nice atmosphere outside. Sunday Roast was horrible, Ordered Lamb Shank, was served with the bone already hanging out like it had been heated up in the microwave, potatoes, carrots were disgusting, veg tasted old. Food
lovely place
Nice pub on the river. Just a shame its not a prettier part of the river. Outside space is very pleasant and gets busy in the summer. Food is standard pub fare but done nicely enough. Choice of beer was good.
A nice historic pub by the riverside in Chatham. Good selection of drinks inc. Beers, wines and spirits. Parking: The pub is situated right by the River Medway in The perfect spot. Parking, there are plenty of car parks close by (mostly Pay and park. The pub is worth the visit, good choice of drinks ( beer, spirits, wines and soft drinks). and serves good food, hot and cold.
Excellent food and value Will definitely be back Food
Nice spot for a family dinner, great views, good food and a selection of board games to keep the younger guests happy. Also my dessert was a winner. Kid-friendliness: From board games to play at your table to colouring competitions my kids had a fab time. This establishment also offers money saving deals on childrens meals over some school breaks
Lovely venue over looking the river, Service was alright, But the food seemed over cooked, and had been sitting there for a while, only Luke warm food Food : 1/5
Though I didn t enter but this one place looks very cool. It is a great view with the water front.
It was a lovely experience, especially on a sunny Saturday. Food was lovely and exquisite and service was lovely.would recommend.
Good food and helpful staff
Great weekend spent with family. Lovely place. Really good atmosphere. Food delicious, Definitely recommend.
Food test perfect
Dog menu and dog friendly was very unexpected - good. Food was great for an afternoon snack Food : 4/5
Sarah was our host and she was super friendly and we had a great service from her. We were there with 3 kids and a dog and were really well accommodated and sat in a really great spot. The venue is great for kids with board games and the usual colouring word search options to keep them busy. Great for dogs with treats and even a dog menu! Plenty outdoor space for kiddos to run around and work off dinner. They have Cosey fireplaces to sit by if you like and the food is to a good standard. They even are a part of the kids eat for a pound during half term vreaks so came as pleasent surprise when our host mentioned that too. Happy to go back and recommend.
Superb venue for meetings & functions & views over Medway well worth a visit
Lovely visit and had a fantastic meal. The buffet options were plentiful and well presented. All the staff were accommodating and friendly. Especially jack
Lovely food, great service, lovely staff. If I had one suggestion it would be to halve the salad and make the fish cake meal with two fishcakes, they were too yummy for only one .. Parking: Non peak times best for parking..quite expensive if you want to stay a long time.
The staff were so lovely and the food was fabulous.
Lovely place; terrible service, waited over a hour just for drinks on the table I booked, one of us got a drink ( water ) the others had to watch! Told staff 3 times still nothing I felt guilty drinking my water with the others looking, the lights kept turning off God knows what was happening with them, food was ropey,
Had a really lovely lunch a week ago here. Waitress was professional and friendly. Enjoyed our food and cocktail, in pleasant atmosphere. Much improved since last visit around ten years ago. Hopefully will be returning with grandchildren soon.
Gorgeous food
Came for a bite to eat. Food was amazing, plenty of dogs to pet and drinks were lovely. Friendly helpful staff. Defo recommend a visit
Lovely unexpected pitstop today, very friendly, only had a sandwich but was really good and our puppy was thoroughly spoilt with her own doggy menu
We visited for a 21st birthday, the organiser was informed that the group would be provided with a room upstairs for our allotted time. Upon arrival staff were dismissive of this and told a member of the group it was untrue as she had personally spoken with the person who made the booking and made absolutely no effort to resolve the situation or manage expectations. The lady who was pointed out by colleges as the manager did not care for customer service and appeared confrontational and burdened by our presence. I can only suggest she place her bed against a wall. Limiting her to only get up on the right side. The group of 13 were placed in the front the pub on display and on a mere 2 benches for the entirety of the evening. The concept of a pre-payed tab seemed futile in this situation and did not work in practice as it was not effectively explained to the group by staff. Can a £65 pre-payed bar tab be justified by an organisation who is not supplying any more than what a walk-in would receive, the bar lady informed the group she would limit the tab to the £65 and let us know when it had been used so anything further food/drinks would be ordered on the app, this did not happen and the manager later informed us we had a £25 unexpected tab. Some opted to order drinks on the app as instructed by bar staff but on a multitude of occasions did not arrive and we had to chase them. Food arrived in a timely manner, unfortunately too timely and five of the group ended the evening with severe food poisoning, placing a dampener on an already questionable evening. Our appointed waitress was really friendly, we didn t catch her name but she had dark hair and an eyebrow piecing. She single-handedly tried to make good of the situation and even went out of her way to offer a group picture. We are very grateful to her!!
2 hour sitting food arrived 1.5 hours later 2nd choice mussels as they had run out of 1st choice worst mussels Ive ever had in dishwater will never go back again
Beer was very good, nice chat with friends. Pub is welcoming and has a great view of the river.
Really good food, cosy ambiance, situated next to a river. Highly recommended.
Great place, very friendly staff, food is good. Enjoyable, friendly and non-competitive quiz night. In the daytime, lovely views across the Medway. Easy parking but Medway Council owned so need to pay.
Me and my brother had a Sunday roast dinner here it was amazing and the service was good as well, not pubs do roast dinner now but this place was amazing its my second time now Parking: You have to paid for the parking on the meter or we use a app for the parking
Had a nice visit here on Boxing Day evening, Food and service was brilliant and we were really impressed, Will be back soon!
We had a table of 14 people. We were shown to our table promptly. However, we waited quite a while before our drink order was taken. Starters turned up in dribs and drabs, so some had finished their 1st course by the time others were receiving theirs. 1 steak order was returned for being overcooked. 1 pasta dish was cold. We had to go looking for a member of staff to order more drinks. Service and food were disappointing. Not sure we would return or recommend. Vegetarian options: Poor.
Loved the atmosphere and the staff is very friendly.
Great staff and lovely food
This is a great place, food is decent, prices aint too bad either, brilliant in the summer by the river
Dog friendly and good service
Attended for a 1500 booking, it took over 2 hours for food to attend which was cold favlourless and obviously microwave meals, waitress left the area unattended for the majority of the stay, the only saving grace was Sarah who tried her best to give a good service but with awful cold meals and an unacceptable wait we had to leave we are definitely not returning and I would suggest anyone does the same until they completely change the kitchen staff
Booked a table online but arrived there and they hadn t got our booking so had to eat in the bar. Ordered drinks on the app but they didn t receive the order. Slow food service and bar staff not interested in serving customers. our two mains also arrived at separate times. The light would go dim and lighter every time a door opened it seems. Shame as lovely location especially in summer but just such poor service from start to finish
This was our first time visiting the command house & although lovely to look at the food was so poor, we was told that the chef hadn t turned up so we don t know who cooked our food but they shouldn t have, the quality was quite simply unbelievable, we was served raw vegetables so much so that the waitress agreed that she wouldn t eat it herself!! Going on some of these reviews after visiting today I can complete concur! It s definitely a lovely pub to enjoy in the summer but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ppl to save their money and eat else where I m sad to say, we had to wait an hour for the food and before we was served our food we was told that a lamb rump that was ordered had been dropped on the floor and there was none left so had to wait further for a piece of beef to be cooked, a member of the party ordered extra sides which never came out, there was also 2 desserts ordered and they were still frozen! I hope that things can be rectified as it s a great location with lots of space.
The command house is a really picturesque pub set on the river. First Impressions is that its stunning and well set out. The staff are really friendly and approachable. We had the Sunday roast, it only took 10 minutes to come out once we ordered it so very quick. The only problem with that is that none of the food was hot, but only just warm. We understand that the food is pre cooked but should have been hotter than it was. it looked and tastes really nice but we did notice that the gravy was really salty. We will probably go back but not for the roast. You do have to pay for parking if you drive. Parking: Public parking is next to the pub. Pay and display.
The team here do an amazing job. This is the second visit in a month for family birthday meals. Food is very good. The team on site are doing their best but there could be a wait for your meals...
The food was awesome. Great gravy! All the staff working hard and they were excellent. Could see how hard they were working on a super busy day. Very accommodating and super friendly. Thank you! Cant wait to come back
I booked in advance for a meal for 5 adults and 2 children on a Mothers day Sunday evening. Arrived and the atmosphere was lovely and very considerate for groups of families. It s a great gastro looking pub, has a great vibe and the children enjoyed the kids menu available ! We ordered, the price was great value for the location on the river. Drinks came quickly and the food about 20 minutes later. The main meals served are various of burgers and chips and fantastic Sunday roasts. We all enjoyed our plentiful meals. We would definitely recommend this pub and will certainly be making a return visit if we are in the vicinity. Well done to the owner and the staff for making us feel so welcome and providing a great establishment! 5 stars
Incredible experience. We will definitely be back again!
Was there last week, had superb service, and the roast was delicious and Im not normally a roast person
Absolutly enjoyable experience ,lovely welcome and great staff !!!!
Lovley pub with a great atmosphere. Dogs are welcome which is great. Lovley food, especially the Sunday roast. Well worth a visit.
Recommended by a mate, quality place
Good atmosphere and nice vibe
Lovely spot that I always try to pop into when I m in the area, staff are pleasant and food is tasty
Stopped off for Sunday lunch, had an exceptional roast and excellent service from Conor.
What a lovely restaurant, great food and service!
Went for dinner here last night with some of the other school mums. First time eating although I often come for drinks. It was a Wednesday night with a friendly atmosphere. We shared the whitebait, cheesy nachos, Camembert, chicken skewers and mushroom bruschetta to start, followed by a main course of duck breast, rump of lamb and the signature salad. Food was delivered to our table by a charming young man, think he said his name was Colin.. or Connor, and responded very professionally when one of my friends asked to squeeze his bicep. Food was delicious and overall an entertaining evening with lots of drinks.
Great food and vibes, Conor was great.
Booked for 7pm on a Wednesday evening off the back of previous reviews and we were not disappointed, great food, great service and a lovely atmosphere in pleasant surroundings, our waitress was polite and helpful and went the extra mile to make our visit an all round great experience, we will definitely return, thank you
went there for a special occasion, a so called barman with a ponytail (did not catch his name) brought out a bottle of warm champagne. He put it in a ice bucket and said it will cool down. Told him I was not happy and he told me to go elsewhere! Totally unprofessional and rude. Will never return.
Huge shame, 6 of us went for a birthday Sunday Roast. This took 45 minutes to come to the table. When it arrived it was cold, so we asked for it to be heated up. When brought back it had been re-plated and was warmer, but unfortunately the veg wasnt particularly seasoned. Meat was decent and the stuffing was very nice. The pub itself is very nice, the dining area and pub area have been done to a high standard and care has obviously been taken, the same can be said for the outside area which overlooks the water. The menu looked nice and should be well-priced, if not for the issue with the wait time and temperature of the food. Id be hesitant to give the food another go, which is a shame because the pub is nice, but I would go for a drink. (Edit following owners response: we did not attend on mothers Day, we attended on the 5th March.)
Always great food served with a
If I could give it a minus star I would. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food still had no updates on the status of it. Waiters upstairs were rude and couldn t care less to help. If anything they did everything to stir us away. The lady young lady at the bar outside was sweet and apologetic (hence one star) but the people upstairs were just rude. Had to leave hungry and with a cranky 2.5 year old who didn t get any food from This place since getting hold of service was impossible.
Really nice place to visit.
Last meal I had was horrible and hardly ever someone behind bar normally sat in a room chatting
Lovely food and lovely service definitely recommend you go and check it out was a great way to end the day
Went for a date night with my partner to the Command House, wasn t sure what to expect but was so impressed from the moment we got there. The pub has stunning views which made us feel so relaxed before even walking in. The staff that greeted us were so lovely and made us feel welcome. We had three courses for a reasonable price and the food was delicious, and the drinks were great too. We will definitely be back soon, and I can t wait to bring my dog (yes they allow dogs!!!) and to come and try the afternoon tea! Parking: Plenty parking right next to the pub!
Went to the command house on Wednesday was greeted with the warmest welcome by the bar staff, sat in the bar area as we popped in will taking our dog for a walk, food came out out in a timely fashion and was hot and delicious thank you to all the team.
Really enjoyed my afternoon at Command house thanks to the all of the staff who were all so friendly. The perfect spot for a sunny afternoon/evening with its outside bar and views!
Great pub at the perfect location, a modern selection of food, I chose the burger which was very tasty. It also has a great selection of beers and the staff were very welcoming.
Very lovely service from the staff, the food is good and it s an overall enjoyable environment to be in with a new modern look, definitely recommend!
Parking: Nearby and easy to access
what a pub!! came in over the bank holiday, Ellie served me at the bar a few times, she is quick and so friendly! They have a great cocktail selection as well. Overall, food and service was brilliant. Parking: car park next to pub, not owned by them so do have to pay. Kid-friendliness: they have kids craft events regularly.
Great place to meet friends for food and drinks. Vegetarian options: Mushroom linguine. Food : 5/5 |
First time visitor. Plenty of seating outside by the river that on a hot day would be nice. There were a lot of tables not cleared outside. Went inside and it was much of the same. Lots of tables just not cleared and the bar both ends were full of empty glasses. The place looked a complete mess. Waited at the bar with with another customer for 5 minutes before having to get the attention of the bar staff. She had her head in the dishwasher and was so engrossed in trying to clear the mountain of glasses at the bar! Disappointed to discover they do not sell non alcoholic beer, (I asked for non alcoholic beer and the barmaid said they didnt sell it, only 0% cider. Review edited after reply), especially how it is a massively growing industry. I didnt order food, but the food I saw coming out did look good. Toilets were ok. First impressions count for a lot, unfortunately I wont be returning in a hurry. Parking: Pay and display car park right next door. Wheelchair accessibility: Unless there was another entrance to the building that I didnt see, it was a lot of stairs to get inside the pub.
Really nice pub by the river very reasonable price for food and drinks recommended
Fab place highly recommended
I was outside enjoying the beautiful river views and this sailed by. I wonder what it is.
A great surprise in a town with lots of negatives, and a massive change to what it used to be with very friendly and welcoming management and staff
Great food in a lovely setting over looking the river, with plenty of out door seating when the weather is nice.
Very good place to relax and chill after a busy week, even during the week if you have that lift food delicious Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, from the carpark you can enter without any difficulty
First time visit today and cant beleive we have never been before. Excellent food roast dinners highly recommended it was delicious. Lovely location by the river ,really nice pub inside and outside , very friendly staff will definitely be going back again . Parking: Big carpark next door you have to pay but its not expensive
Beautiful pub in an awesome location on the river. Sat outside and had a few pints in the sunshine, very nice way to spend an afternoon. Look forward to coming back
Ordered a table for 4 in the restaurant for Sunday lunch. Got there and was directed to a bar table with people queuing for drinks beside it and flies everywhere. Voiced my dissatisfaction and asked for a proper table in the restaurant. Was told there were none, yet there were empty tables there. When I said about them I was told they were booked so I pointed out that I was booked too. I was then told I could go to the other end of the bar to a table but they were not waited on tables. Other people from the restaurant were knocking on the kitchen door asking for more gravy so by the looks of it even the waited on tables were not being waited on properly. Considering I had booked, I was absolutely disgusted so told them to cancel my booking and we left. I will never ever book here again and would advise others to be cautious.
Really banging roast dinner
What a find! Beautiful pub with amazing views of the river. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food was cooked to perfection. The cocktails are very moreish too! Especially the passionfruit martini... Its safe to say we will be visiting again next time were in the area.
Best pub I came across in Chatham , nice little spot on the waterfront
Stumbed across this gem whilst breezing through Chatham and stayed for lunch and 3 rounds of drinks! Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, food and drink perfect Food
Hired the downstairs bar for my fathers wake this week, the staff were lovely, the food delicious... Couldnt have been better. Thank you all.
Booked for lunch 1.30pm hardly anything available on the menu unless you want burgers. When they arrived the chips were awful and the burgers were just edible. Wont be going again sadly.
A lovely pub in Chatham. Very well kept, clean and tidy and a friendly atmosphere. The food menu wasnt as large as many other pubs but what was on offer was of a very good standard and there was. Still a good choice to choose from. Highly recommend this pub.
Fathers Day dinner and everything was perfect. Really nice food and the service was amazing. No parking facilities there for the pub so you have to use a pay and display car park but its in a nice location right next to the river Medway. Recommend! Parking: Pay via RingGo Kid-friendliness: Plenty of families with kids there
A very nice pub, lovely views over the river. A good selection of beers and wines. I would recommend this place.
Visited 8/7/23 with family from all over the UK - the bar man (manager) needs to learn how to talk to customers and deliver service with a smile ..waiters/waitresses were lovely, food was great but misery guts put us off coming back. Parking: Plenty of spaces
A nice relaxing mint.
Excellent service very friendly and polite staff would recommend
Not a bad meal
Booked in for afternoon tea for two. Had a nice experience with very nice staff. However, food was disappointing. Traditionally sandwiches are of the finger variety, these were half triangles which were too big. Should have been quarters. They consisted of one grated cheese and one bacon lettuce and tomato on basic sliced white bread. There was also a prawn wrap and avacado lettuce and tomato wrap. We had one fruit scone each with accompanying small pot of jam and cream. Dessert was brownie, Eaton mess and some chocolates. It was quite obvious that the sandwiches had been left out for a while as the bread was very dry and the cream was not cold. The only saving grace was that I paid for the boozy afternoon tea which came with two cocktails each. Price then was not too bad. I like a good afternoon tea, but this was not as good as others. I am sure they can do a lot better.
Lovely venue with very kind and friendly staff, the outside seating area has lovely views
Went here for a Sunday roast. Portions were big to be fair with lots of veg, albeit warm. A contrast to the cauliflower cheese which was super hot!.
Very nice food, nice atmosphere.
Me and my husband arrived last week for a nice drink stop and afternoon tea, we were served by the lovely Ellie, she was very kind and made time for us without rushing us and kindly explained the menu to us. She was very quick and very caring, kept checking on us to make sure we were happy and getting everything we wanted, the best thing of all was the lovely chat we had, what a kind and bright worker you guys have. Will definitely be back!
We love coming down here for a few drinks over looking the water, especially when the sun is out but..... My partner and i decided to go for a pub roast here last week. The pork with crispy crackling is what my parner ordered, it came without the crackling, which is the best part of it! I ordered the lamb shank, but it came as 3 lumps of lamb (not the lamb shank I was hoping for). Yes the rosemary and red wine gravy was delicious, and we had plenty of potatoes (a bit too many in fact), but they were too crunchy and had trouble chewing them. My partner doesnt eat any veg so we asked for extra yorkie (no extra yorkie came out). It states on the roast menu that all roasts come with roast potato, creamy mash, savoy cabbage, red onion and carrot medley, parsnip, peas and Yorkie...my plate was missing (other than the lamb shank as a shank should be served), no peas, no onion, no savoy and worst of all no Yorkie!!! So if you decide to go for a Sunday roast here, dont expect the plate to look how it should look! All in all, a pretty bog standard roast
Midweek lunch for a group of six friends and the food and service was very good. Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is upstairs, I didnt see a ramp, but it was not obvious, you can eat outside which has waited service
Nice furniture and atmosphere. Food is good.
The food here is horrendous Id rather go to the greenking pub I asked for a refund as it looked that bad
A nice pub right on the river medway. Lovely outdoor space. Good selection of drinks
Csilla was brilliant - thank you!
Very friendly staff, food was amazing. The setting and View was outstanding. Well worth the visit.
Avoid the hunters chicken. It looks like a birds eye chicken chargrill with a bit of cheese and bacon slapped on top. The burger done fill the bun along with with a little pot of chips.
Never had a bad experience in the command house. The food has just got better and better over the last couple of years. - fun fact I went here 20 years ago when it was more studenty and a very different vibe, love the fact we have both grown and improved with age. Definitely go here if you haven t already, it does not disappoint!
Nice pub by the river. Hidden away from the town, which biscuits a good thing....
The sunsets at this place over a drink.
Great food and amazing service
Stopped for food, family dinner and although a long wait due to a function, food was worth it, was relaxed and the girl serving couldnt be more helpful. Good selection, although the offcial GF menu is limited for allergy this was due to mixed fryer but ok for intolerance
Theres no denying, this is a lovely family pub, mostly due to its location providing views over the river. Good choice of cask ales on my recent visit too. But the sharing platters were underwhelming. And costlier than they ought to be. We only ordered sharers for our table so cannot comment on rest of menu. Parking: Parking is about £1 per hour. Can pay via the Ringo app.
Beautiful setting on a sunny evening. Excellent food and drink, served quickly with a smile... The only downside (which is not in the gift of the venue to control) is not everyone sat outside, knows how to behave....
My mate and I love this place. Always friendly and welcoming staff (thanks Sarah) and the food every time I ve eaten has been fab.chunks of chicken with plenty of bacon puff pastry pie with creamy mash and fresh veg. Fab portion size too and clean. Beautiful building and the view outside overlooking the river during a sunset yesterday was beautiful. This is our fav place to meet and catch up.
Thanks for a lovely evening, especially thanks to Sarah for looking after us
Ill try and be as fair as I can here Ive used this pub on and off since 1997 and seen it go through more changes than I can recount. Its in a brilliant location, wonderful view over the river and they have really made an effort with the latest refurbishment. I love their attitudes towards dogs and the outdoor seating has clearly had a lot of money spent on it, the toilets are unrecognisable from 15 years ago They have a good choice of beers and like a lot of places have embraced the gin boom even having their own menu of the stuff. Unfortunately there are some not so great points. I ve seen and smelt the food when having a drink here before and it smells and looks really nice. Weve just had a roast dinner and Ive got to say it was really disappointing. My wife said her turkey was nice, my lamb was very tough but had some nice bits but the toughness is the main memory here, we both agreed the Yorkshire pud, cabbage and the carrots were good but, the parsnips and potatoes were rubbery, the food turned up at best lukewarm the whole plate was dry and rubbery. The kitchen had run out of cauliflower cheese which was upsetting but one of those things. I would have given this feedback on our visit however nobody asked, in fairness it was quite busy. We paid upfront so that might have been an opportunity for feedback when the bill paying was needed. I dont normally give food places more than 1 chance as there are so many places to eat now however going on other peoples food reviews and given the fact Ill definitely be back for beers overlooking the medway Im sure this was a bad day. The 3 stars for service is apart from a delightful young lady who took our drinks orders and explainer to us it was her first shift doing tables we didnt interact with anyone, the menu advertises gravy refills and the food on the plate needed the moisture of another little jug. That took longer than expected when I got someones attention to ask for some more. So overall, the place is clearly making an effort, it looks good, the beers are good but I cant defend the food from my experience of it
Went for an evening walk with fiancé the little one and dog. The table service was quick and the staff were very nice, behind the bar Ellie was beyond helpful, making sure everyone was okay and making sure our food got to our table as we moved from outside as it was quite chilly. She was very lovely and interacted with our little one making sure we were happy with our seats and if we needing anything to make us comfortable. She was very smiley and very alert with all customers making sure everyone was served quickly, the dog beer was a nice touch . Chips were very good, deffo coming again
Lovely pub great food
We used the function room, service was good, atmosphere was super Parking: Limited parking when its busy Food : 4/5 |
Lovely pub, looking forward to trying out the food. Great cellar bar available for hire too .
Love historic pub by the river in Chatham. Staff were friendly & helpful. The food was hot & delicious. Very generous portion, the mash tasted like Smash though, which was a little disappointing. We would definitely revisit this pub/restaurant.
Brunch/menu party, I honestly cant review or reccomend high enough. Twice now used. Mothers day and 30th birthday celebration for at least 9 people. £15 for food and 2 drinks! We stayed later..... and spent much much more because it was such a lovely venue and service was brilliant and very friendly. Thank you especially Sarah.
Really nice food and great service Thanks sarah for serving us Food
A gem of Chatham! Wonderful and cosy atmosphere, friendly staff!
Food lovely staff friendly quick service
3 pints and two double gins Food nice but a bit pricey Dog friendly Food : 4/5
The command house let me and my finance down badly. They booked us in for his 30th birthday cebrations and assured us everything was confirmed via email. Later, we recieved a casual email saying they could no longer host the event for 30 people. Little accountability taken or apologies recieved . We are local and regular patrons who expected more effort from the Command House to solve the problem, rather than refusing our event due to a double booking that was not our fault. Completely unorganised and money grabbing pub. Will not be returning.
Really disappointed after having my party cancelled after being booked for months. The manager tried to say that it was my fault and I had only enquired - after going into the pub to book, confirming with them that we were booked in and receiving a booking confirmation email. This left me trying to book somewhere for my Birthday at the last minute so close to Christmas.
Very shoddy business practises.
Great Sunday roast good value for money, staff very polite and courteous
Awful. Terrible place to go, avoid!
