14 Railway St, Chatham ME4 4JL, United Kingdom
The pub is open for breakfast until 12 noon and offers free refills (all day every day) on tea and Lavazza coffee. For lunch and dinner, there are lighter bites, with deli deal options and vegetarian choices, gourmet burgers and freshly made pizzas. Wetherspoon has championed a wide range of drinks, including real ales, craft beers, gins and soft drinks. Table service is available via the Wetherspoon app, using our unlimited free Wi-Fi. This pub has step-free access.
I like this pub. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. But like a lot of Wetherspoon pubs the tables were not cleaned enough. But always busy with a lot of tables to clean. So the staff are working hard. Maybe it's needs more staff. The last couple of times we went in there we cleared the table ourselves.
Food was good and service was fine. Table was dirty and staff only really made a half assed attempt to clean it. Nothing REALLY to moan about but it did feel somewhat haphazard.
The service in this pub is terrible. It's been getting worse for months. This evening 7 customers waiting and one person serving. I waited 15 minutes to get served. Some of the female staff are particularly rude I recall from other visits. Clearly this is not the manager's fault but the area manager and head office for penny pinching. Yes a cheap pub but surely the service could be better. Tables were swimming in beer and debris. Please don't patronise me or other customers if you are head office and tempted to write how sorry you are. Fact is you won't lose any sleep over this review and there are plenty of other pubs to enjoy a reasonably priced drink apart from JD's. Too bad, as I used to really enjoy JD's once upon a time.
Does not get any better. Slow service due to the fact the staff on duty seem to be daydreaming rather than paying attention to the queues of customers waiting to be served. The tables are usually dirty and not cleared of plates. Dreadful Finished eating more than 30 minutes ago and plate is still sitting in front of me even thought a waiter has gone oases many times. No excuse for shoddy service just because food is good value
So I’m stood at the bar with my assistance dog and the door lady that had just checked my dogs identification decides it’s ok to pick my dog up without even asking. I polity asked her to put my dog down she then went crazy telling the bar staff not to serve me!!?!?!?! I have reported this to the police as she became very abusive and making a right scene. Even the bar staff all the customers and the door lady’s boss watched here do it all and said she was out of order but she ran off crying and screaming to not serve me because she picked my dog up while my back was turned. In what world does she think that’s the right thing to do it’s like picking someone’s baby up without permission. She needs to see a psychiatrist and lose her door supervisor licence. I have reported this to Councillor VINCE MAPLE. And upon leaving she gets some of here door staff friends to try and intimidate me a disabled war veteran as a medic for 15 years. Wetherspoon head office will be informed in the morning.
Food wasn't bad, perhaps the menu was very misleading on the triple burger, the size was rather small and of course it's great value regardless when compared to restaurants in the area. The service wasn't great, the floor staff on the day we visited were constantly running around, one staff member even bumped into us and did not stop to apologise as they knocked our condiments out of our hands. Service at the bar was good, although there were queues to be served. The atmosphere is fine, nothing special, make sure you go with good company.
Had a great experience this evening after a long day at the office. I observed Ethan working alone on the first floor of the pub regularly clearing tables and delivering exceptional service. They did a fantastic job and for me personally, made my evening enjoyable. An excellent staff member and very polite. Will definitely come back here to unwind.
Great value for money, less than £7 for a large breakfast. The hot drinks are unlimited which is really good value for money, lots of choices at the drinks machine. Food arrived quick. Nice & spacious inside. Will definitely return. Taking one star back as our finished plates were left for a while, we had to ask someone to clear the table.
The usual Wetherspoons fair but prompt service and excellent value for money as usual.
Very nice pub with a good atmosphere. Not an amazing service in my experience. Service
Unfortunately for me the Abbott Ale was very slightly vinegary, but the queue was long to get the beer in the first place, so didnt want to complain!
Breakfast came out lukewarm not very good
Poor place was under staffed waited 30 mins to get a drink
The food was horrible and the place was dirty.
Good food at a good price.
Breakfast here is variable. Sometimes great, but last time it was luke warm. Free tea and coffee top-ups is something America definitely gets right that we havent imported apart from at Spoons. Other than that, its a Wetherspoons. What can you say? Cheap beer. Awesome. Underpaid overworked staff - wouldnt expect them to be particularly attentive, but theyre always nice
Great pub, Great Food & Service with a smile. Beautiful Historic Building
Ordered drinks by phone 45 minutes later ,drinks never turned up ,we left as meal booked somewhere else ,so didnt bother ,not very impressed at all
Food very good , but bar service poor , waited 10 minutes to ask for a cocktail only to be told they didnt have the ingredients, and then they were advertising a cocktail on the bar , so I waited again to be served & then I was told that cocktail wasnt available for another couple of days ( advertise when its available).
Usual standard, however a bit short on choice of cask ales.
Friendly staff , good service just not enough gravy/sauce with food but otherwise tasted great
No complaints. Great food and service and amazing ladies loos!!
Had lunch here on two occasions , meals were of a high standard. Various areas to sit, chat and not get skinned by the prices.
This pub has evolved, no more idiotic over zealous security. Staff spot on, really polite and helpful. Good boozer at last.
Decent spoons with outside area. But short on staff waiting 15 minutes on drink orders, but the staff were friendly . Food was standard so cant complain.
Banging spoons, upstairs, beer garden. Raised booths. Goes hard
Cant wait to go back .
Always a selection of real ales..many guest ones to try out each visit. A well run pub where the staff do their best during often busy times before theatre shows are due.
Nice place for breakfast and lunch cheap
Great value for what you get. I mean a McDonalds is more expensive now a days and you dont get a pint! For a decent, no frills meal, you cant really go wrong!
Service very slow
Good food quick service
I really enjoy coming to this Wetherspoons, often pop in for lunch or for cheep meals with the family. Very friendly atmosphere and staff.
Sticky table and no guest cider that you were still able to order on the app. Hey, its a Wetherspoons!
Staff are friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure going in there Parking: As long as you put ypur registration on at the front desk, parking is free. Parking space Plenty of parking
Excellent pub, decent food and drinks at very low prices
The bar maid with the dark hair and nose ring was neither welcoming or helpful when we asked for a straw she just grunted No and walked away..... do like your job??????
I had a quick drink and then on to the next JD pub in Kent excellent place to visit thanks
Small beer garden but two tiers. Good sized seating area inside, again on two floors. Useful place to sit and work in the mornings. Service
Gem of the swamp that is Chatham, usually a reliable pub fell apart tonight when it was swamped with school children and there was pure chaos trying to get a pint.
Got here and had my id, blonde lady in checkered shirt didn t believe me and would not serve me and served my friends she also wouldn t refund me for this drink. Treated me like I was 10 and told me I had to be out by nine, stayed for my food because I wouldn t have got refunded for that either and it was awful very cold and rice was raw. Terrible service from this lady, others were okay but she really let this place down. Before this we even asked nicely if she could clean the table as was covered in dirty wet napkins and food but she never did nor did she have anyone else after saying yes. We expected as much but chanced coming here won t make the same mistake again.
Been few times was alclean but went today on entrance all table not been cleared or cleaned food on floor wet tissue on ceiling very poor state food was ok
As with pretty much all wetherspoon pubs you know what to expect, great value for money and never feel rushed to eat and go
Its a whetherspoons what more do you want the foods edible and the drinks are cheap
Brought me a dirty fork there, when I went to ask to replace it I was given also dirty fork. When I came to the drawer were clean ware is stored and saw that every second fork there is dirty
Terrible cold food. Female staff member with terrible attitude. Atmosphere of a wake.
staff pukka drinks cheap only problem is pigeons are a nightmare in the beer garden
Service is as poor as youve ever witnessed. Horrible system which only helps the staff!
Good place to eat. Always busy
Only popped in for a quick drink before a show but it was a nice pub with plenty of seating
saw a female employee with bright pink hair try to kick out an elderly gentleman for refusing to provide a vest for his service dog... woman got a major attitude when I informed her thats not the law and told me point blank her managers rules override the law.... disgusting behaviour
Big old spoons just had a beer seemed all right
Great little place to visit if your in the area. Food typically arrives in good time even when they have very busy moments. The service is always good here. Very friendly staff nothing is too much for these guys and that makes you feel very welcome there. Prices havent increased by much in the years Ive been going there very reasonable and portion sizes are good. Totally recommend. Kid-friendliness: The kid meals are always good sized and when they serve them to our children they are very polite to them.
Could be a nice place. It was quite quiet when I visited, tables hadnt been cleared or wiped. Upholstered seating was disgustingly dirty.
Its Cheap and you definitely get what you pay for.. Drinks are where I would give 5* stars to because it doesnt cost you a to get tipsy! Ive had many great start of the nights to spending all night with friends and their definitely is some eye candy My favourite place to drink is definitely in the garden booths because if your like me.. Because of All the entertainment from other punters but nothing that will spoil your night.. Just makes you invested in peoples life stories.. You meet so many people from all different walks of live and its a very friendly place and the staff are sometimes grumpy but hey wouldnt you be, they are very understaffed at times and service can take a little longer than normal but like most places we all have our favourites! Also if you havent taken a selfie while in the ladies long mirror and gone all the way up to the next VIP toilets.. Your missing out Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Only when you use the garden entrance
This classic Edwardian building first opened its doors in 1902 as Chathams new main post office. It was built for the General Post Office (GPO) by its Works Department under the direction of William Oldrieve. It is now named after Chatham-born naval officer and merchant seaman Thomas Waghorn, who was also a postal pioneer. Waghorn developed a new postal route for Great Britain to India. This new 6,000-mile land route replaced the 16,000-mile sea voyage, reducing the time taken from about three months to 35-40 days. These premises were refurbished by JD Witherspoon and opened in July 2016.
Standard arengement. I guess recently refitted as looks new and tidy. Used twice mid week. Not overcrowded and a mix of ages.
Cheap prices, I gave it 4 stars only because whenever I buy a cup of tea from here it tastes funny, theres something wrong with the water.
Went in the one evening and a lot of the beer at the pumps had run out, also went in the following morning for a large full English breakfast, the food was fine but its temperature was only warm certainly not hot enough for a fatty dish, no check was done.
How the tide has turned tables littered plates with food which was cold drinks arrived when we had almost finished must try harder
Huge selection of drinks
I often come here in the morning to get an unlimited hot drink and breakfast muffin for less than £5. I sit read a book or go on my computer. And hide in a cubby hole seating area
I absolutely love this place for its unbeatable combination of affordability and speed. The prices are incredibly reasonable, making it easy to grab a quick meal or drink without breaking the bank. Plus, the service is lightning-fast, perfect for those times when Im on the go and need a quick bite. Whether its a budget-friendly burger or a refreshing beverage, Wetherspoons always delivers. With such great value and efficiency, its no wonder why I keep coming back for more
Always a lot quieter than the Golden Lion in Rochester. Which makes it confusing that the service for using the app is so much slower. Generally quiet. Lacking a bit in atmosphere. Kid-friendliness: Open to children until the evening
Standard spoons, slow table service
Went here after a day out at diggerland! It s what you expect from a Wetherspoons great value for money. Clean facilities and service was pretty good 10/10
Good
Nice atmosphere. Lots of seating.
There was a shortage of tables, none of which were clean. Order on the app wasnt working so there was a half hour queue to get served. Even when the food did come it was poorer than most wetherspoons.
The best service Ive had for years Wheelchair accessibility: Very clear to enter Food : 5/5 |
Very very good value! A prosecco and a ginger beer for £5.60!! Service : 4/5
Waited 10 minutes for 2 glasses of coke ended up going to the bar myself trays with drinks ready to go staff all talking and laughing 15 minute wait for food that arrived cold when the place was empty waited another 10 minutes for another coke ended up walking out as they put it on our table
Great pub
They have no guiness tables and bar full of dirty glasses and plates not clean coffee cups no milk for coffees food left around the place food left for ages to be given
The tables need to be cleaned a lot more often. Sometimes its difficult to find a clean table because of this.
Excellent centrally located pub. Being Wetherspoons it does what it says on the tin. Reasonably priced food and drink in nice surroundings.
Its ok. I cant really make much of a comment ... it was just a little pitstop for a quick lunch... I had ham egg and chips , I did not enjoy it at all . Yuck! The Cheap processed Ham was horrible and the cheap frozen chunky chips were disgusting. I definitely wouldnt recommend it.. my sister had an all day breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it .
customers smoking weed in the beer garden was going to order food but left because of this what an awful place dirty and rude people avoid
Nice intimate pub with a good atmosphere but truly awful service
The foods okay for what you pay. We have been going there for years for a quick bite
Lovely breakfast Wheelchair accessibility: I use a mobility scooter no actual issues Food : 5/5 |
cheap drinks
Food here was lovely would go again and recommend it to friends
Slow service, food is mediocre and frequently cold, not a large atmosphere, suffers from poor management
The guy was rushed off his feet. It was really, really busy. The food was good. All happy customers thanks
Food Seems so Fresh for a Pub Chain Super Fast Service even though it was Busy Vegetarian options: Poop
Ordered jacket potatoe when it arrived it was stone cold with bits of ice in middle manage took away and said he would have to cook another when that arrived it was just as cold with ice in the middle got a refund thinking if they cant cook a simple jacket potatoe I do not want to chance anything else.Had to clear the table ourselves before our food arrived
Usual Spoons fare, inexpensive and good value. This location is large and well run, and can be a bit boisterous apparently later on at weekends!
Always busy, tables need to be wiped between customers but atmosphere and drink excellent. Good Sauvignon Blanc and cider.
Very good eggs benedict, with runny yolk. Good seating and warm on a cold day. The only downside it is in Chatham.
Nice
Service is slow, tables were filthy and not cleaned for hours, staff are rude especially the young boy that brings out food
Other then not enough bar staff when its busy, its a weatherspoons so what do you expect.
Food 10/10- great and delicious Floor Staff 7/10 - dirty tables, Overall great pub with cheap food and drinks Food : 5/5
The tables needed cleaning and food mediocre
Lots of empty glasses. Was very busy
Its a JD Wetherspoon ... you get what you expect. The benefits of this one is that the evening vibe here is not packed out and over flowing (as you find in Rochester and Maidstone) but is actually calm. I like that makes it a great place to catch up with friends. Plus its all at the witherspoon prices we all love and menu choices we can trust. There are a couple of bar staff here too that go the extra mile.
You get what you expect for a wetherspoons. Mediocre food, drinks arrived after the food and the cess pit of chathams clientelle Kid-friendliness: Colouring sheets on the menu and crayons are available
Life changing (picture from a different pub in a different town)
Service bar is very poor
We enjoyed our meals, just the lettuce could of been fresher. Otherwise, a very nice experience
had holly as a server tonight, she was so lovely and made the night that much more incredible. she was so polite, professional and welcoming x
I had a steak with soft drink and I choose the raspberry lemonade that when I normally drink is lemonade with some raspberry flavour, but this one was just sparkling raspberry, I kindly asked to change my drink as I didn t like it and Natalie replied me in a rude way saying that I could buy another drink if I didn t like it! She could have said that the policy wouldn t give this possibility and that she was sorry instead of being that rude! I m waitress supervisor myself and I would never be that rude even if I was on my worse day. Then as because it was my lucky day I asked a pink head girl, that turned out it was the manager, (nothing against the pink hair, but yeah against the manager with not even the bare minimum of common sense) If my steak could have been cooked a slightly longer as I asked for medium rare and not rare, she is like yes of course and SHE TOOK MY PAPER NAPKIN and says: Can you pls pop on the steak from the plate on the salviette so I will let cook a little more ? I was shocked, I know we are not in Mayfair but come on a Manager working like this is ridiculous!
Need more staff
We got to speak to Jaxon this evening and he was absolutely lovely! He really made our evening, was incredibly friendly and funny. Thank you so much!
Nice Wetherspoons, always clean and food is good. Tables are set out well.
Great value meal deal
Food and drink at sensible affordable prices, friendly efficient service.
My mixed grill was terrible. Couldnt eat the meat at all was fatty and like hard rubber... But apart from that seems a nice place. Food : 1/5
Beer is cheap, plenty of seating upstairs and outside. Food appears to be microwaved at times but edible, nice place to start an evening. Food
Unfortunately, regularly visiting the same witherspoons pub. You do eventually find the service to go downhill. Slow order incomplete orders or waiting 26 mins for a drink
Had a cup of tea although it was a pun Friendly service Service
Go here and spend money, its worth it, also for whomever needs to hear this, youre amazing and Im happy that you exist Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are absolutely amazing Dietary restrictions: They know know whats good G
Service was excellent
Vegetarian options: Fair amount of Vegetarian options. Highly recommend the pizzas. Cheesy fries could certainly do with a better quality of cheese Food
We went to this place early afternoon when it wasnt particularly busy. We ordered two burgers which came in 1 minute (!) and had nothing in it except a piece of meat, no salad, gurken, tomato etc. I remember old times when a burger was full of salad and very tasty. But getting a bun with a slice of meat is ridiculous, definitely not a burger. I understand there is inflation but I am willing to pay more and rather get the same quality. Removing ingredients is not the best solution. The building is nice, beer service was ok but very slow, even though it wasnt rush hour. Although food came too quickly, which was already a bad sign.
Great pub
Thoroughly enjoyed lunch here today
Really good pub meals. We had pizza which was surprisingly tasty with the additional toppings. Burgers were also nice and came with plenty of nicely cooked chips. Good selection of heinz sauces, not to mention the huge variety of non alcoholic beers and soft drinks. Was initially concerned that a pub venue in Chatham may not be place to take the kids out for a late lunch, but couldnt have been better. We opted for the bright first floor, but downstairs was also clean, and safe for kids. Our original server seemed a bit tired/bored but the rest were great. The total cost was very reasonable.
Terrible service. Waited 30 mins for 3 pints and they got the order wrong
Really had a very good impromptu brunch. Place enormous, well patronised. Food excellent, staff friendly. Will go back again. Kid-friendliness: Whole families were there. Loads of places to sit.
Nice breakfast and coffee. Great place to catch up with friends
Quaint English pub. Friendly staff and good food.
Standard wetherspoons
Place is good to eat and hang out . Parking: Located near high street and near train station . Food : 4/5 |
Liked the place
A great weatherspoons, food is well prepared. Staff a great although slow when busy.
Nice and relaxed atmosphere
Good service. Had evening meal for 6 of us. Is a nicer weather spoons than the Rochester one
Pizza surprisingly very nice
Good food and friendly service
Lovely pub with great service
You know what to expect at a Wetherspoon pub. Easy parking in nearby car parks. Good for a cheap meal and pint. I had a curry.
STOPPED HERE TO HAVE DRINKS WITH MY SISTER AND HER BOYFRIEND. HAD 2 NEW ALCOLHIC DRINKS. VERY NICE.
That s the worst pub from Chatham...they don t pay the winnings from slot machines even if they have them ... Thieves and liars ! I dont recommend it anyones!
One of the best spoons Ive visited clean plenty of staff only bug bear was the loos are upstairs not sure there was a lift
One of, if not, the best Pub & Grub place on the high street.
As usual great food at a great price. App easy to use and our waiter was very friendly
Great food and usually quick service, can be a bit slow cleaning tables but that can more than be forgiven.
I visited here with a friend at lunchtime, the food arrived in good time. The service was exceptional - The waiter Dean was very polite and attentive, asked if we were happy with everything and couldnt have been more helpful, he is a credit to wetherspoons! I would highly recommend it here!
Did eat there, but had a drink, had to clean away the table as not many people clearing up quite enough good value for money on drinks
Nice to be back in wetherspoon, quick service as always, excellent prices
Nice place, would recommend
Staff were all lovely
Burgers took a long time and were over done/dry I think this might have been due to the plans being too busy
Adequate food, drink and service but what do you expect at these prices?
