A Hudson Valley Restaurant in the Village of Chatham
Had an absolutely wonderful experience at Bimi’s! We were in town from out of state for the weekend and were so happy we stopped in Chatham for dinner. The service was friendly and super accommodating. The food was innovational and super fresh. We loved everything we ate and our drinks were fab. Cozy vibes for a fall evening.
An absolute hidden gem! As visitors from out of state staying in the are, we visited two nights in a row! We couldn’t get enough of the intimate speakeasy vibes of the basement bar, excellent service and delicious drinks. Night two we enjoyed lovely, well curated meals. The bathrooms are unique and offer an unexpected laugh. What a great experience- wishing Bimi’s all the continued success in the world!
I recently dined at Bimi’s Canteen, and unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. I ordered the steak and a pork dish, and both left much to be desired. The steak was mediocre at best, with an excessive amount of fat that overshadowed any potential flavor. Similarly, the pork dish was also dominated by fat, making it unappetizing. Given the prices they charge, I expected much better cuts of meat that would provide a more enjoyable dining experience. On a positive note, the drinks were quite good, offering a nice selection that complemented the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, which added to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. However, despite these positives, I couldn’t shake the disappointment of the food quality. This isn’t my first visit to Bimi’s, and I've found myself frustrated that each time I return, the issues remain unaddressed. For the price you pay, the meat offerings should be significantly better. It’s disheartening to see a restaurant with potential consistently miss the mark. I hope they take this feedback to heart and improve their menu in the future. Until then, I can't see myself returning anytime soon.
Loved Bimi’s! Great drinks, great service, and good food!! Only reason for 4/5 stars is they almost left the shrimp off our nachos, but as asked and the problem was resolved.
What a pleasant experience in the quaint downtown of Chatham! We had reservations, were greeted promptly by a friendly staffed and seated within the moment. The service was friendly and efficient, even getting the special dietary requests correctly. The ambiance was conducive to private conversation with a steady buzz of other voices around the room. The food was divine! Flavors that were layered and subtle, like the cilantro jalapeno sauce on the foul and a mustard berry glaze on the pork. Cooked to perfection and presented well. As nice dining experience on par with experiences in NYC. We will be back!
a wonderful addition to the Chatham food scene and i am never disappointed by their fresh fish dishes like last nights grilled sardines - friendly service and a beautifully designed room
We had the world slate, smash burger with shoestring fries, coq au vin, and pork chop with buckwheat spaetzle and red cabbage. We appreciated that the dishes were prepared carefully and not laden with butter. It was all delicious except for the strangely unappetizing cheese plate, which contained about 1 ounce of cold, boring cheese and was not appropriate for sharing. Nice rustic dining room with leather placemats and lovely cloth napkins. Friendly and helpful service.
Everything was fantastic from the atmosphere to the cocktails to the food. We didn’t have a reservation but we were seated at the bar quickly. The service was a little slow but watching the bartender and the passion he has was an experience in itself so it helped with the wait. The food was fantastic. My only complaint was we got the tomato salad and it was supposed to come with a crispy waffle and it didn’t. When we asked they said sometimes they run out. That’s ok but it could have been substituted with bread maybe. Either way, it was delicious. And the macaroni gratin was incredible!
The new chef is stellar. Fabulous dinner. My wife loved her sweet potato mochi, and Asian-inspired sea bass. Kale salad can be boring, but mine was next level with delicious delicata squash and a wonderful dressing. I spend a lot of time in Germany and Poland, and this was the best schnitzel Ive ever had. So good. Server was lovely. Will be back.
Noise prohibits normal conversations between diners at the same table. Guest practically shout to hear each other.
There was a proportional yet enticing menu in a basement with friends at clean dry tables that had live edge wood, and there was nicely lit stonework next to a bar downstairs. It became a happening restaurant that ebbed calmly adventuresome public dining time atmosphere but didn t cross intrusion for our own accompanying conversations. Cheers.
Outstanding! Food was fantastic, we had the arugula salad, the nachos with shrimp and the burger. The portions were very generous, we split everything. We appreciated that our waitress, who was excellent, was honest when asked if we needed another entree. She was right when she said what we ordered would be enough. Everything about Bimi s Cantina was great, down to the bathrooms, best restaurant bathroom I ve ever been too. No joke, there is a moving picture of a train going through the countryside, my first thought was that we were right across the street from the train station, it is very cool. And the hand towels are yellow toile and soft paper. We ate in the main dining area, but the bar area downstairs has seating and also has a great vibe. We ll be back and wish Bimi s Cantina much continued success.
Have come here many times for dinner and have never had anything short of an excellent meal. Tried their Sunday brunch today for the first time and it was amazing. Drinks are always on point and service is exceptional.
Cocktails, Salads, Seafood entrees, and Pasta were very good. Nice / cozy atmosphere. Good service.
Wonderful food and service.
Spectacular meal at Bimi s!! From start to finish a great experience the drinks, appetizers, mains and dessert. Everything was really top notch. Loved our drinks creative with big round ice cubes. Appetizers: we loved the butter beans, artichokes and salads. Mains: all great steak, pastas, fish! And we loved the merengue dessert! Also worthy go the the bar downstairs and the bathrooms. So nice!!
I love Bimi and wanted this to be great, but the short of it is that the place is noisy (downstairs), food was mediocre, and overpriced. With a reservation, we were seated in the basement room, which was very loud from the music and the reverberation of noise from the cocktail making. When I asked to be moved upstairs because of the noise, where there was an available table for 2, the waitress just said theyd turn down the music. The food was all right, with the cheese and cold cuts board being well portioned and tasty. I had a $40+ steak that was full of ligaments, and had been covered with sauce not advertised in the menu, tasting slightly burned underneath (maybe by design?). The fish was overcooked, and didnt taste like much. We had three cocktails, which on the small side, two of which had one of those huge square blocks of ice in it.
If you miss the Blue Plate, this place is a worthy substitute. Everything about it is top notch from the beer selection and, of course, the food. The menu seems misleadingly minimalist in naming and describing its selections, almost to the point where I thouht Id be disappointed. But the dishes are expertly prepared and complex without being overworked (or worse, curated) -- especially the Sunset Salad. I cant wait to go back and try more of their food.
Delicious and fresh food with fun drinks and cocktails.
Visited twice in a week. Certain dishes are great. Others are a miss. The first-time service was questionable since they tried to overload the table with the main course when we were still having appetizers. Appetizers are delicious. Bouillabaisse a disappointment, fish dry and very few mussels etc. Steak boring. Ravioli more like an overstuffed perogi. Chicken under a brick very good. Still worth a visit.
Unbelievable food and service try the non alcoholic drinks they are amazing
Came in without reservations, so they accommodated us at the bar. We were surprised when we were led downstairs to a speakeasy of sorts. The ambiance was perfect for Sunday dinner out. We were delighted to see two beautiful non-alcoholic cocktail options. We ordered one of each, and they were both exceptional, especially the Bees Knees. They also have an NA beer and pre-made mocktail, which I did not prefer, and our bartender was more than understanding and removed it for me. They were understanding of my dietary restrictions, which is so relieving. I got the chicken, and my husband got the halibut, and they were both truly delightful. My chicken was cooked perfectly, and the pak dong complimented everything so well. My husbands halibut was so delicate and the miso beyond flavorful. The bathrooms were also neat with the projections and overall artistry. We will certainly be back regularly, and we are so excited to have this option in town! Update: Went two months ago with friends and we all shared the fondue which was incredible. Also got mocktails which were also perfection. Then also went again tonight and had the pork, mac&cheese, burger, and chicken and dumplings and everything was delicious, especially the pork. Top notch, really. And the mac&cheese was almost like the fondue so, A+. Also got the green river mocktail again and it is tart and refreshing. Bimis Canteen is our favorite, always. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free, shellfish, peanuts
Great cheese shop. And I LOVE cheese!
What a gem!!!! Dylan softly playing Local whiskey and brew So cozy and comfortable
The food was a soggy mess. There was an older gentleman sitting at the table next to me was vulgar, loud, and obnoxious, he had a bunch of construction workers with him, meanwhile the owners were just laughing it off like he owned the place.
A wonderful place for delicious food, drinks, and atmosphere. Jazz.
We had steak, and it was really good! We ordered the Chicken Dumplings and they were pretty atypical, it did not have much taste. Needless to say, we would not order that dish again. I rated atmosphere lower since we were seated downstairs, where it was a smaller space and pretty chilly. Overall, it was an alright experience.
First time eating here. My friend and I loved the aesthetics- beautiful decor. Overall it was enjoyable - attentive staff and an interesting menu. We started with the world slate, which, considering the price and the fact that there was a cheese shop next door, was disappointing. Some grapes, a handful of nuts, and Bits of cheese (delicious) and prosciutto. Very small for sharing. We continued to share the simple fondue ( highly recommended )and the bouillabaisse, the latter of which, although stunningly beautiful, was a bit flat in flavor. We finished with two desserts. That, with four glasses of wine each came to $247 before tip, and after tip, close to $300. Which, compared to other places in Chatham with similar menus, is overpriced IMHO. I guess I was expecting more wow.
Great vibe, delicious food and yum cocktails. We ll be back!
We had a great time . First night open . Well done ! See you soon .
Wonderful food! Warm service. Great decor. Noise level just fine. Parking: We had no problem finding parking. Food : 5/5 |
We usually wait a while to try out new restaurants. Knowing it s a complex dance to get the food, the staff, and vibe smoothed out, we want to give them a bit of time to develop. Despite this habit, we just couldn t wait to try out BImi s Canteen on their third day in business. You d never know they are brand new! The stylish and thoughtfully-arranged space. The friendly, professional staff. The perfect drinks (don t miss the hibiscus lemonade). The delectable food all 5 dishes we tried were spectacular. And the gorgeous bar downstairs was perfect for a nightcap. So close to perfect, and only day 3! Looking forward to many more great meals here.
Great job for being open just a few days. Wonderful addition to village!
We had an amazing experience at Bimi s Canteen! We arrived for our 7:00 reservation and was immediately seated. The service, the food, the atmosphere, the bathroom, the downstairs bar, all of it was top notch! No stone left unturned! The thought and care that went into every detail shows through. We enjoyed ourselves so much with dinner that we went to the bar after for a cocktail and we were not disappointed! What a fabulous place!
Amazing steak and drinks! The steak is cooked to perfection so flavory and very very very gooddddddd taste!!! Def get the sweet peas soup! What a JAM!
The food was absolutely delicious , and the environment was very warm and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back! Food
Outstanding. Inventive menu with very local spin. Amazing cocktails. Excellent waitress. Safe and snug on the Cellar rooms as a tornado passed by during dinner. Reservations a must if you want to sit upstairs.
I ve been to the canteen twice now, eating both upstairs in the dining room and in the basement bar area. The ambiance, decor, service, and (most importantly) food is simply wonderful. I particularly enjoyed eating at the bar with the friendly and knowledgeable bartender. He recommended a special sardine dish that paired perfectly with my white cosmo (a must try). He was also so helpful in finding a glass of wine to pair with my entree. Overall, Bimi s canteen was well worth the wait. I cannot wait to return.
The best meal we ever had in the Berkshires and Catskills. The food was imaginatively prepared and presented. The service was impeccable and gracious. The manager, Ellen, should teach a course making patrons feel welcome:she is a delight. Highly recommended without qualification.
Stop reading reviews and book a table. Seriously. Your search is over. You ve made it. Get the Mac & cheese. Actually, get anything with cheese. Actually, get anything at all. You re welcome.
I am loathe to write this in a public forum, because I will never be able to get a reservation again, but run, don t walk to eat here. This is a spectacular restaurant. The best meal I ve had in the Hudson river valley/Berkshires in a decade. Menu, service, atmosphere, all incredible. Seriously I just want go back.
Beautiful restaurant, wonderful friendly hosts, great ambience and service and stellar food! 5 stars all around! Recommended to all!
The drinks were great and the service was great will definitely eat here again
What a treat! A perfect restaurant in every respect: menu, service and atmosphere. Can t wait to return again, and again.
Excellent across the board! You have created a stunning space, delicious menu, fantastic cocktails, and lovely service in the heart of Chatham, NY! Well done!
A fantastic addition to the Columbia County food scene and an instant favorite!
Went in with high hopes and Bimis did not disappoint... The dining room is fantastic. Warm, cozy and welcoming. The staff are lighthearted, professional and fun. The food was flavorful, well prepared and on point, and the drinks and beverage are likewise. I can not honestly think of one fault. Chatham has and has had very good restaurants. I think Bimis is going to be the one to beat, high standards have been set. Great job guys, crushed it. Vegetarian options: Very good options.
We were on short visit to Berkshires- stopped for desert and espresso- outstanding espresso - fresh pastries all homemade. This is a must do stop in Chatham. Worth going out of your way. Kayla, our server, was delightful.
Great place food was delicious and the staff was excellent. Loved the decor and the drinks were top notch. Dietary restrictions: They took extra precautions due to a tree nut allergy
There are many wonderful delicate and refined dishes to enjoy here but i can t resist the heavenly satisfaction of their Mac and Cheese - classic comfort food taken to the level of art
Amazing food worth the high-ish price. Highly recommend the Branzino fish. Food
Not only is the food amazing, but the aesthetic is absolutely amazing. We had the deluxe fondue, along with fantastic cocktails.
