Hugo’s Mexican Kitchen - District 1881 in Chilliwack

I ordered the happy hour tacos and they were pretty underwhelming, was sad to see that compared to the photos online they had very little toppings, mostly just meat on a tortilla. The chips and guacamole were delicious. Service was okay.

Very disappointed. Made a reservation but when we got there, they had booked us for 7AM not PM. Made us wait while they gave tables to other diners. Waitress spilled water all over 2 guests, minimal apologies, orders enchilada pollo and they arrived deep fried which is does not say in the menu and when I asked, waitress treated me like I was stupid. Waitress spent more time socializing with the table next to us than serving. No offer of a discount of any kind for the issues. Will NOT go back or recommend

Hugo s in the district is the worst!! I made a reservation days ago and Hugo s confirmed on the phone with me at the time the name and time of reservation. Today when I went to show up for my reservation the hostess informed me that they did not write down the reservation and wouldn t be able to seat us. Usually I wouldn t mind too much but this was a birthday lunch so I m very disappointed especially considering the workers were so casual as if this happens all the time which was odd. If you re booking a reservation with hugos, uhh make sure they write it down I guess..?

Phone call mentioned vegetarian enchiladas but none in person. Apparently theyre premade. At the expensive price that the food is being served, you would expect food to not be just heated and served. Ordered quesadilla. Its just a tortilla stuffed with an unnecessary amount of cheese. Nothing else. Topped with some (some) tomatoes and lettuce. Extremely expensive and disappointing. Others in the party gave similar opinions. The service was good. A little rushed but thats ok.

Brought home what was supposed to be the rest of my quesadilla to pull out a pine needle from my mouth. It was also ver doughy.

We have walked by this restaurant many times saying we should try it. We finally did and were very disappointed. The food was bland at best and lacked the Mexican flair I often get in Mexico. I ordered a beer which was flat and when I spoke to the waitress she smiled and said yeah when I told her it tasted flat. Leads me to believe this is the norm. We asked for a glass of water and were supplied with a glass of warm water and no ice. We were there for 32 minutes and could not wait to leave. Good thing other places were open to get food that night. I hope its not usually that bad. If it is... it will not last.

We had such a great time! We booked a tasting and are gonna use them for our wedding catering!

Went to the new District Location. Food was very fresh, hot and good. However, no free chips and salsa like the original location which is too bad as its a really nice thing to have before the meal and with the dining experience.

Hugo s is my go to after work and on weekends. Always such a great atmosphere. Tonight was crazy busy and the staff handled it so well. Deanne, janessa, keighley and the kitchen staff did a great job! Thank you!

All I can say is YUM! The food was amazing, and the atmosphere and location were great loved being right in 1881. Came here to celebrate mine and grandmas bday. The drinks were great! The Caesar was one of the best I ve had, and grandma loved her mimosa flight lol. I ordered the burrito Ahogado with both sauces and WOW huge portion and it was delicious! The only thing that I can say is the wait time between ordering and food/drink coming out was long. But it was busy. Overall great restaurant and we will be back!

I had to wait forever just for 2 things. NOBODY wanted to pay attention to me, I tried calling staff to ask how long is it going to take got completely ignored. Everybody else who came after me got helped. Please improve your customer service. Never ever going to come back here!!!!!

First time at the downtown location with a couple friends! Small seating area inside, yet it didnt feel crowded when we were there. Has a small outdoor patio as well. Taco Tuesday was on when we went, absolutely delicious food! Appies of generous portions to share! Very good value for what you get! Will absolutely be back!!!

I have been to both locations within Chilliwack and the food is always amazing. I highly recommend the famous taco laco and the taco de coliflor.

Had the best lunch at Hugo s yesterday. The food was amazing and the service was just perfect. Vegetarian options: The cauliflower burrito was so good.

Went with my girls to try it for the first time my drink was amazing but out server was incredibly rude I got something I never had before and meant for the sauce to be on the side in case I didnt like it but they poured it all over the food and I just wanted a fan my friend spoke up for me to say something and from then on she was slamming the cutlery really loud and didnt smile once you could tell she didnt even want to be there I dont think Ill ever to there again and its sad because I was so excited

Even though the district location always has a wait... I absolutely adore the food here. They have the best plant based tacos around. Love going to Hugos

I was underwhelmed by both the portion and the taste of the food, unfortunately. I haven t tried any other Mexican food in town but I wouldn t recommend it as a celiac. Service was ok. Dietary restrictions: Hugo s said while some with more tolerant allergies could handle the cross contamination in the kitchen, they couldn t recommend the corn tacos to celiacs due to a shared grill surface and flour in the kitchen . The deep fryer is shared, so chips & guac was off the table too - which was disappointing.

Food was good, vibes were good although table was a bit small for 2 adults and a high chair (we ordered a fair amount of food, we were excited to try this place out) Service was a whole lot of nothing. our server was upbeat, perky, brought a positive tone but service was one dimensional. drinks came very late - quite a bit after appies - apparently it didn t print but it managed to print everything else in our order. she served water to her other tables but forgot to top up ours all in all, the service was lacking substance. And yes, we do expect a little more if they expect us to tip. Ps. Chicharrones is not actual pork grinds..just more like chips.

The food was soo good and fresh! Got the chilaquiles and chicken enchiladas + churros to go. One of my favourite mexican restaurants in BC for sure. The service was excellent too!

i was thoroughly disappointed in the customer service here. i speak very highly of hugos to everyone thats looking to eat somewhere, based off my experience at their other location across town. i was exited to go again expecting that same amazing overall service. i was wrong, however. the hostess right off the bat gave me such a judgemental look before a word was exchanged and it made the whole experience feel uninviting. she seems to avoid me, and when she did talk she wouldnt make eye contact and made it clear other customers were of her upmost priority. i saw she treated the other customers fairly, but for some reason when it came to me she rushed and was fairly rude. the energy she put off was incredibly unprofessional and should be fixed so all customers feel welcome and heard. when i asked for my bill she rushed away, talked to another employee for about 20 mins behind the bar and then finally made her way to me. she gave me another judgmental look for not tipping, as if her service was worthy of it! the food from the kitchen was exactly how i expected it to be, props to the kitchen staff for such excellent work. as for the environment of the restaurant, it is incredibly small and cramped. the seats by the window are very uncomfortable and people constantly brush up against you and your table just to get by, witch is not great while youre trying to eat. because of the small size of the restaurant it gets super loud very quickly, and they seem to have nothing implemented to drown out the noise. the facility was generally clean, however the small bathrooms needed tending to, and the restaurant reeked of alchohol (even at lunch time) as if you were at a club. pros: food is great food is cost efficient location is good cons: loud cramped mildly dirty poor service (slow, judgemental, unwelcoming) alchohol smell if you are going to go to hugos, ud recommend the other location for better results.

We sat at the bar. Bartender was lovely. The quesadillas were delicious. Service was fast. It was a great Cinco de Mayo!!!!

We enjoyed our dinner but it wasn t outstanding. Food was good not great, a bit bland for Mexican. The new location is nice, a great area to walk around in downtown Chilliwack. Service was the same, good not great.

Went ot 1881 for the first time. It is nice inside, has a good patio which would be gret for the summertime. Food was typically Mexican, a bit pricey, but, the rent is probably very high. We did not mind paying because our server, Shayna, was a complete delight. She was exctremely attentive, pleaseant and made our stay very pleasant. Her boss should be very proud of her. Parking: Its always hard to get parking close to 1881, it;s a popular area, especially on a weekend, but the extra parking is available a little farther away.

Atmosphere - This was in a cute location and we randomly decided to stop there as we were waiting for another place to open. The inside seems a bit small so we opted for outdoor seating. I did hear the server tell another customer they were in the process of getting heaters. This will be nice as even though it was a nice day the wind and the shade from the other building made it quite chilly. Service - Our server was a young male who did his best. The items coming out was a bit slower than I am used to but he was jovial and apologetic and kind and that goes a long way. Food - The chips and flight of salsas was a nice treat and very appreciated. They were what you would expect. We started with the Toquitos Con Mole and they were so good, they were crispy and moist and topped with deliciousness. We all got the same thing, The Famous Taco Loco. My fiance and I got ours normal but my daughter who has a food aversion to sauces requested hers without any other the sauce that comes on it. They did mess up on that and give us hers unsubstituted and my fiances without the sauce but the server was quite attentive and apologetic and was able to fix the error quickly. They were fairly good, definitely think more sauce from my standpoint to elevate the flavour profile a bit more. We got the Churro Icecream Sandwich to end the meal and they were very gracious in assiting us with splitting one for my daughter and I as we cannot eat a whole one to ourselves after the meal. They were able to make it open faced which was helpful and they were gracious in doing so. I will say my fiance attempted to eat his unaltered sandwich and he ended up having to open it up and eat it open faced as it was definitely too big even for his mouth and quite the messy meal when it gets squished from biting. However the price of caramel and guac are way overpriced from my perspective. The caramel just tasted like normal caramel and while I did not have the guac I think it is about a dollar too much even a dollar seventy five too much. Other than that though it was good and the whole meal a grand affair. Pretty good food but excellent top notch service.

Service was fast and scenery is great. 100% recommend for a restaurant with a really decent price for amazing food. Would eat here everyday if I had the chance

Great little spot in the heart of downtown! Fantastic al pastor! The drinks were also very delicious! The make darn near everything from scratch! If you want as close to real deal as you can get mexican in Chilliwack, this is your spot! Our sever (didnt get a name) was super sweet and knew her job! We will be going back!

Our server greeted us warmly, and we wasted no time in placing our drink orders, eager to sip on some refreshing beverages while perusing the menu. However, there was a slight hiccup in the timing. Despite our enthusiasm, it took just over 20 minutes for us to place our food order. While it didnt dampen our spirits, we couldnt help but notice some patrons waiting at the door became restless and eventually departed. Nevertheless, once our orders were in, the wait was well worth it. Each dish that graced our table was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and authenticity. From the savory tacos to the mouthwatering enchiladas, every bite was a celebration of Mexican cuisine at its finest. Despite the minor delay in service, the overall experience at Hugo s Mexican Kitchen was nothing short of delightful. The food, the ambiance, and the friendly staff all combined to create a memorable dining experience that we wont soon forget. Well definitely be returning for another taste of their delicious offerings and hoping for a smoother service flow next time.
