Yellow Deli in Chilliwack

The restaurant s quaint wooden building and large hand-painted flower sign attracted me. As you push the door open, American western cowboy music flows. The interior of the restaurant is also decorated with logs. The wood is peeling and burning in the fireplace. This is truly an authentic restaurant from the pioneer period! The selling point is the burger sandwich, served with secret soup. My son and I each ordered Deli Lamb and Deli Rose burgers, and todays soup is pumpkin soup. Since Christmas is approaching, I added a cup of Chai Nog and finished it off with carrot cake. Unexpectedly, every dish is delicious. Different hamburger buns are matched with corresponding slices of meat, and the flavor is extremely rich. Pumpkin soup is added with ginger, cinnamon and unknown spices, which is very different from what I have tasted in the past. Pineapple is added to the carrot cake, which slightly reduces the taste of carrot and adds the aroma of tropical fruits. The food is delicious and the prices are very affordable. Unfortunately, Chilliwacks Yellow Deli is the closest branch to Vancouver. If you want to have a meal, you have to drive for more than an hour.

Don t go. If you do you re supporting a cult.

DELICIOUS food, at reasonable prices, in a cozy, humble environment with respectful down to earth staff. Im not sure what more anyone could want! Plus the food is homemade and healthy! Leave feeling good about the food in your belly, the money you spent and the whole experience. I always take out of town visitors here and they always want to go back again before the leave!

This place is never open. I hear there food is pretty good, but I couldnt tell you. Ive never seen a restaurant so difficult to give money to in exchange for food.

By far, the most fresh sandwich I ve ever had. They obviously use quality ingredients and the freshest vegetables. I just moved here and the staff were extremely kind and happy and had the most beautiful mannerism. And the chai latte my new go-to the environment was so positive and happy and the decor feels like it s made with love, thought, and feels very cozy. Can t wait to tell people about the food!

The food is always delicious and somehow magically filling - we theorize because its entirely homemade right down to the brain. Their drinks and desserts are also thoroughly delightful, and everything is affordable. Expect to wait a bit for a table, which speaks to the quality of the food

Good old yellow deli! Always consistent and never cheap on ingredients! There are also gluten free options here there are a few yellow Delis in Canada - they re all super cool and whimsical on the inside. I love the Nelson, Courtenay & the Blue Mountains locations as well!

Excellent food and dreamy rustic atmosphere.... Theres nowhere nearby that remotely compares. Everything on the menu is solid, but let me especially recommend the carrot cake. I usually make my own sandwich (Turkey, Swiss, sprouts), but also enjoy their salads and breakfasts pretty equally. Always top off your meal with dessert like carrot cake.

The food at this restaurant is consistently exceptional, and the service is always outstanding. Every dish Ive tried has been incredible. I make it a point to return every other week whenever I can.

Despite the rumours online, they serve really good food, great atmosphere and the staff are super nice and friendly. If you visit Chilliwack by any chance please go give them a try with an open heart. You will not be disappointed. Nothing to complain about.

My whole family loves the yellow deli, my friends love the yellow deli, people I take there for their first time love the yellow deli. Its a bit like being at a restaurant that was decorated for the thunder mountain ride at Disney. Super good home cooked food. I get the cheesy nut salad a lot. The soups is always good, everything is great really.

The food was good, I truely enjoyed. But service was not at there best. As my friend and I arrived at the place, there was a wait. A few tables cleared up, and I requested a table on the upper level, and we were told to wait and see if a bigger group of 4 to walk in. However, there was a couple at that table moment earlier. So, we respectfully waited for the table. No other group showed up at that time. We were seated at the requested table after a 15 minutes of waiting. We ordered our food and drinks, and that too, took longer time then usual. With poor service, my friend and I were not happy. We did pay our bill, and left without tip. Since it was my first time there, I thought it would be a good place. And heard many good things. So if you decide to go, better think twice about service. How would you like to be served?

Sandwiches were fantastic. I ordered for pick up and one thing that bugged me was I wasnt allowed to switch out the type of bread I wanted to have. Which was absolutely flooring and ridiculous..like why cant I have a Kaiser bun instead of the onion bun it ..whats it to ya? Like who cares ...make it on the Kaiser bun whats the problem...pretty Redick.

The good: Strange place, but thats kind of what I was hoping for. The atmosphere makes you feel like youve gone back in time, open wood fire going on in the back round made for an amazing atmosphere, would make for an awesome old tavern type bar. The food tasted good. The Bad: The main entrance was locked, you had to go in through an inconspicuous side door to get in....I thought that was odd. Portions are small, no sides and there are absolutely no pork options and apparently can only have your eggs poached (Um okay?) I believe this to be because of the places religious ties. Server seemed absolutely miserable, kinda gave that youre not one of us kind of vibe (whatever I dont care but my wife took offence) but the guy who took our payment at the front at least seemed much more friendly and willing to chat. After talking to many people in the Chilliwack community, specifically the christian community, the stories and accusations of this place promoting abuse and cult like beliefs seem to be common and a quick google research seem to further push that narrative I suspect all the raging positive reviews are from other christian fundamentalists or people simply oblivious to the core values of this place. All religious dogma and accusations aside, unless this place turns into a tavern I doubt Id bother going here again as theres nothing special about the place or the food.

Such a great place! I ve wanted to come to a Yellow Deli for many years and was so happy to find out there was one nearby where I live. It did not disappoint! Delicious food, comfy atmosphere, and really welcoming staff. Happy we came and 10/10 recommend

This is a nice little village-feel restaurant in the middle of Chilliwack. The servers are great at paying attention to your needs and provide a great service. The food is always spot-on in flavor and freshness. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are present. As well as a regular and hardly changing menu. The organic teas and coffee are a great relaxing and mind-easing hydrating enjoyment. Parking: there is on-side parking even if the parking lot looks full there is a hidden extension behind the red building. Wheelchair accessibility: it is on a ground level and has leveled seating available. The bathroom is also spacious enough to maneuver a wheelchair.

This place is a fairy tale, I love this place so much and the food is out of this world. The only thing that bugs me and makes my review a 4 is the way the food is served on a tray and there are no good alternatives to the potato chips, so that sort of ruins the whole oldie vibe of the place, if you can put that behind you its a wonderful place to go for dinner and the staff are super friendly!

I ordered a custom sandwich on a kaiser bun. It came on a onion bun and it was hot. No where on the menu does it say hot and I definitely did not order it that way. It was awful! Im sure if it came the way I ordered it, it would have been good, but hot avacado is not appealing! Sending food back isnt something I like to do because while Im waiting g for a new dish, everyone is eating and by the time my meal comes, everyone has finished. I just wont return!

Walked in and immediately a child (maybe 10-11 years old) rushed past us out the door with a platter of drinks. We dined in, and sat outside as the energy inside the main dining area was not to our liking. The fella taking our order was nice, but noticeably antsy for lack of better wording. I got the chipotle chicken sandy and that was a hell of a sandwich. Very delicious. Upon leaving, I hit the bathroom, where I found a basket of brochures hanging next to the toilet. These brochures explain the origins, motives and history of the cult running the place. It doesn t take much reading around to figure out that this place is apart of the Twelve Tribes, a cult. Many people have a strong dislike for this place for this reason. Though the food was great, the interior s atmosphere was off-putting. If you re looking for a stop with good sandwiches, and don t care about the cultish nature of the place, knock yourself out. If the cultish aura is too much, there are plenty of restaurants around the area

I spontaneously had lunch with my dad today. I googled best lunch near me while at chilliwack hospital and the first one to come up was Yellow Deli. Not surprised...its close to hospital. What a wonderful surprise! We sat on the beautiful patio with lots of shade on a warm day. The meals are delicious, creative and affordable. We both completely enjoyed and will be returning. Looking forward to trying many more items on this menu. Congratulations to all staff there! You all deserve a pat on the back and have a great weekend

One of my favourite restaurants. I go here every time I go through Chilliwack, and that s a lot. The restaurant is beautifully hand crafted and pulls me back to my childhood in the 70s. It is perfect. The food is as close to homemade as you are going to get and it is simply delicious. They have options for all eaters. They are lovely people too, and always greet you warmly. They are always up for a chat if they have time, to share the history of the restaurant and the stories about their community. I cannot recommend this place enough, and feel bad it has taken me this many years to do a proper review. Vegetarian options: The burger Dietary restrictions: Options for almost everyone! On a long road trip from Merritt to Vancouver we stopped by this little quaint restaurant. We did not expect much but the food did deliver! Unexpected and absolutely fantastic lunch! The waitress was courteous and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The only reason i cannot give five out of five stars is that I dont believe in perfection. If you want food that nourishes your soul, this is the place you want to eat.

The food was ok at best, but they got this low rating because the service is horrible. One of the servers is creepy and just stares when youre eating, not saying a word.

I swung by The Yellow Deli in Chilliwack and went for the Deli Rose sandwich with a side of Chili. The Chili was a standout, featuring hefty beef meatballs and a slice of what I can only describe as generously buttered sourdough, perfect for dipping. The Deli Rose sandwich, served on a fresh bun, was heated just right, showcasing their attention to detail. My wife built her own turkey sandwich, which was equally impressive. The service here was a pleasant surprise; the waitstaff were incredibly polite and attentive. All in all, it was a memorable dining experience with exceptional food and service. Oh, and definitely give their house-made Ice Tea a shot. The patios great too. Count me in for another visit!

Food is okay. Run by a cult, The 12 Tribes, that centres its beliefs around beating and abusing children. Also, it is unlikely that anyone working there is paid or if they follow any labour laws. If you eat here, you support that.

I thought the food was great, but my 7 year old who was experiencing a toothache that day was a little grumpy. The staff urged me to correct the problem by giving him blue marks, which I can only assume to be bruises. Very bad vibes, will not come back again. Kid-friendliness: Very hostile to children. I had to interject and leave without finishing my slightly above average meal because they were actively encouraging me to physically reprimand him. Call me a bleeding heart liberal, but I think kids deserve to pout and frown if they re not being a complete nuisance.

Edit: okay so I m reading now that they ARE owned by a cult. Search 12 Tribes communities. Their members abuse children. This place is bad vibes and their sandwiches are not good. I don t understand the hype. We took our take out to the car and it was disappointing. We got the Reuben and a deli rose. I opened the box and it was this small sandwich and tiny coleslaw rattling around in this huge box. My first bite was a soggy mess, which the untoasted bun absorbed. It felt like a sponge. The coleslaw was a wastery sample of a greater coleslaw. The taste was okay. Culty vibes inside aside, the interior is charming.

This was a WILD ride. My partner and I went in, after hearing good things about the food at the Yellow Deli. Upon arriving, you immediately get flower-child 1970s vibes, which is nostalgic, Ill give it that. At the front counter upon arriving, you immediately see a plethora of Christian literature, which should have been a dead giveaway. I thought that was strange, but paid it no mind and sat down at our table. The servers all look exactly the same, which I thought was... interesting. The food was slightly above average for price point, the taste was good. My partner and I have our meal and get up to pay, the server starts telling us about their 50th anniversary and said that the Yellow Deli is more than a restaurant... its a movement all over the world. This gave me super weird vibes, big time. He handed us a pamphlet about their restaurant and we left... Upon reading the pamphlet, I now realize we ate at a Christian cults restaurant. After reading other disturbing reviews about how servers have suggested to bruise misbehaving children and that their workers arent paid, that just doesnt sit right with me. Long story short: Good food, but dont drink the kool-aid. I wont be returning. Kid-friendliness: Servers suggest you beat misbehaving children

Crazy cool atmosphere, been coming here for years. Fantastic food & service, where else in Chilliwack can you dine in at 4:00am? Thats right, NONE. Definitely make sure your car is locked though, downtown Chilliwack has a pretty bad theft rate and cars that get broken into often, speaking from experience... If you havent been, you HAVE to check it out. 11/10

If you are looking for a deli pass on this place very disappointed I am accustomed to real delis like you get in Toronto. The smoked meat sandwich is a joke they need to go to a real deli and see a real sandwich.

This place is run by a CULT! DO NOT GO! It was too late when we realized this and got sandwiches which were okay. But after more research we realized they don t pay their workers, advocate beating children and have highly racist beliefs. At first we thought okay they re hippies and religious whatever, but when we looked into it further I m really upset that we ate there because they prey on vulnerable people and isolate them from the real world and brainwash them. Look into how awful the 12 tribes are. The sandwiches weren t worth it and I would not recommend spending your money here. Now we know we will never eat here again.

Strange place. Fully packed on a Monday afternoon. Our orders unfortunately came out with the wrong sides. The chips I don t think they even make there, tastes like they came from a bag. They also never checked up on us on how we were doing throughout the meal. Not even once. Waited 20mins for seats. Lots of parking. And a lot of detail put into the restaurant itself. But the food was just alright. I enjoyed the hot apple cider. The waiters gave off a very weird vibe, ( all men and they all looked the same ,with the same hair cut too) hard to explain. A lot of staring going on.

The Yellow Deli certainly has an interesting background and I usually just grab a piece of their delicious cheese pie to go. The smoothies are great but the veggie burger had a weird taste and the waffle was overly sweet. Stick with the cheese pie!!

You will wait for your coffee awhile, wait for your food awhile ( its only a sandwich). But that can be a good thing if you want to relax so, you decide. I personally like a little more motivation from a server. When I over hear them answer the phone saying they are shortstaffed as 3 grown men stand there talking I had to laugh.But, I like the place and Ill be back...

One of the greeting ladies (older) was very short with us for mistakenly going in the exit door. (Not clearly marked) To prove a point, she made us follow her to the correct door where upon the host walked us right back to where we entered and offered us a table. Food was great, thanks to the kitchen staff.

decent food but its a front to a cult so thats pretty weird

Very cozy place and delicious food. We ate a very good soup, and I love that they had a delicious gluten free bread! For sure well be back soon!

After reading the reviews, and getting recommendations by others Im very confused about the hype that goes around this place. Alot are saying the atmosphere and service was great. Personally didnt think so. The food, after seeing photos of the sandwiches being stuffed, was disappointing as our sandwiches took 45 mins, and have 1 to 2 slices of meat. Thought it was an experience but personally wouldnt go back.
